can I call you rose? major john "bucky" egan (masters of the air) x black fem oc (amelia egan)
content: a flashback to one of the first interactions of bucky and amelia. inspired by the song, "can I call you rose?" by thee sacred souls.
an: I've been on a writing kick lately. bask in it now before I go back into hibernation lololol. on a serious note, this was fun to write and I hope you enjoy it.

Local pubs were common safehouses for the men of the 100th. A place where they shed their military prowess at the door and cloak themselves in normalcy for a few hours.
Over 40 men crowded the dark pub; drinking, singing, and conversing joyously between themselves and the women scattered throughout. His eyes scanned around the room. Gale was whispering in the ear of a pretty blonde, who giggled like a school girl and Curt was dancing in the corner with a brunette with a gentle gaze. He chuckled to himself and knocked back the remainder of his drink.
John clenched his jaw and pushed himself off the rickety old couch. He whistled a soft tune as he trudged toward the bar. He's been disciplined (somewhat), having only drank two glasses. Gale would be so proud.
"What can I get for you?" asked the person behind the bar. Her back was turned to him, which made him scoff in amusement.
"Eyes in the back of your head?" John dropped his glass against the countertops. Her shoulders hook in amusement. She turned and pressed her forearms against the counter. John's eyebrow raised in interest.
"Something like that." Her dark eyes fell to the pins and badge against his chest. "What are you drinking, Major?"
"Whiskey." She plucked the glass from his lingering fingertips and refilled the glasses. His gaze was on her as she floated behind the bar with ease. It wasn't completely rare to see a woman bartending, but it was surely uncommon, nonetheless.
She looked damn good doing it, too. Her dark, pressed hair was tied back by a baby blue bandana, showcasing her beautiful features. She wore black tailored pants that complimented her figure and a black sweater. Her manicured nails clicked against the glass as she dropped it into his awaiting palm.
"Here ya go. Enjoy, Major."
He winced. That aspect of him was shed at the door. "John." His correction was gentle, but she heard the stern understones.
"Is that appropriate?" She questioned.
He shrugged and took a small sip of his drink. "It is because I said so. Now you," he leaned forward. "What's your name?"
He rose painted lips parted, but closed once she saw a smile creep on his lips, "What?"
John's tongue massaged the inside of his cheek. He asked, "Can I call you Rose?"
Her head jerked and he eyebrows furrowed. "Rose? Where'd that come from?"
John leaned back and tossed his arm over the neighboring chair. "Cause you're real pretty. You look sweet, especially with that dimple, and your perfume is...kinda strong. Smells like flowers."
She tried to fight the smile that pulled at the corners of her mouth Her brown eyes bore into his blue ones in awe.
"In that case, I will let you call me Rose. But, my name is Amelia."
John smiled. "Amelia Rose, see how pretty that sounds?" Amelia giggled and he swore it was the greatest sound on earth; an angelic song.
"Does everyone call you John?"
He shook his head. "Most people call me Bucky."
Amelia shook her head. "Then John is reserved just for me, yeah?" An indescribable emotion flashed through his blue eyes, but, she could tell he was satisfied, nonetheless.
John held her gaze as he brought his glass to his lips once more. "We've got a deal, Miss Amelia Rose."
-
"Rose, darlin'." Amelia turned at the sound of her name. She knew that voice all too well. It visited her during her dreams and soothed her to sleep in the evenings. A gleaming smile spread across her face. She dropped her rag and turned to face the door.
"Hi Johnny," she greeted softly. The seductive undertones in her voice, paired with the nickname had the eyebrows of Gale and Curt raise. John met her smile with a grin.
"I'll catch you boys in later. Rose, baby." John jogged toward the bar. Amelia met him halfway. He wrapped his uniform-glad arms around her waist and she sank into his embrace. His lips grazed the shell of ear. "How've you been, honey?"
It'd been months since their first meeting. They saw each other twice after that; another evening at the pub and a date. He took her on a date and surprised her with a bouquet of lowers; a dozen red roses.
For three months, their relationship progressed through a series of letters. She had more than she could count, all stashed safely in a box under her bed, handled with tender care.
"Good. Missed you. Glad you made it back in one piece." Amelia said, running her fingers across his pins and badge. "Do you want anything?"
John shook his head. "No. I'm here with the guys, but I'd prefer to talk to you without a drink. If that's alright with you."
Amelia laughed lightly and grabbed his hand. "Coffee it is."
-
"How long are you here?" Amelia asked, passing Johna ceramic coffee mug.
"Should be a month, but it's subject to change. But..." John's eyes lit up with hope. "I was hoping to spend some time with you if you'd like. Heard they've got a fun carnival going on tonight. You've yet to beat me in a game."
The young woman chuckled, remembering the intensely competitive game of cards they played every Friday up until he left. She smiled bashfully and nodded. "Of course."
John winked. "It's a date, Rosie."

More than 1 note on a post? I'm gonna take that as people being interested! The follow up of my first character headcanon post - this time for England and Russia aka my America love interests.
England:
Can be described as one word: sharp. Sharp jawline, sharp eyes, thin mouth. He has an eyebrow piercing - he rarely wears it nowadays, but he made the piercing with magic so it's always there. He has an eyebrow slit from a scar he got from a battle with a magical creature that never healed. All the other nations are fascinated with it because scars are so rare among their kind (and also because with how England's eyebrows are, it's very eye catching). Attractive in a rough and tumble way - he's very popular with a subset of the female population who initially peg him for a bad boy no matter how far behind him those days are. (France always jokes he's got the face of a delinquent). Physically 30s, ID says 33.
Tailored three piece suits and oxfords are his regular wardrobe for work, like a proper gentleman.
Dirty, light blonde hair (a bit like this), and D37 green-coloured eyes. While he's very hygienic, he doesn't take care of himself beyond doing things for hygiene, so he tends to have rough, calloused hands and his skin isn't particularly soft, though he has the Nation-blessed clear skin.
Very little body fat, lean muscle. He's 180cm (or 5'10), and is therefore 2cm shorter than America, which infuriates Arthur. A lot of scars from magical battles - he has more scars than any other Nation. Has kept up sword fighting and martial arts, and unfortunately has a temper that means he gets into a lot of brawls. Physicality is very important to him, which comes from some more old-fashioned Nation values that younger Nations don't tend to have (more on this later).
Arthur dressed down = replacing the three piece suit with a dress shirt paired with a sweater vest. Or a long, dark coat. He generally tends to prefer blacks, greys, browns. It's rumoured (according to France) that his fashion sense is to stop young women from hitting on him, thinking he's some kind of bad boy. Also why he's cut down on smoking in public. Poor guy.
Russia:
If England is rough and tumble handsome, Russia is prince handsome - really on as opposite ends of a person's 'type scale' as you can possibly get. He's got a strong jaw and fuller lips, soft eyes. Many a six yer old have tugged on their mother's clothes, pointed at him and told their mum there's a prince, and many a mum have rewarded their six year old for pointing him out. Physically 30s, ID says 31.
Whatever he wears always tends to be hidden by a coat and his scarf.
White blonde hair (close to... this colour). His eyes are undeniably violet. Once again the polar opposite of Arthur, his skin is soft and smooth, looking very much like he's never worked a day in his life - but if the metaphor that I was going for is that England's power is in the way he's hardened from work and hardship, and maintains strength and power through sheer will, Russia's strength is in his impenetrability, in the way even years of holding swords or guns never shows in his body.
I've run out of words, so Russia's body type is the second or last one in this image, depending on if he's at war or in peace times. Minor differences between them, generally. Broad shoulders, thick waist, thick everything. No abs, just. Solidly built. Also, he's 6'7, and wears the kind of boots that make him taller (not on purpose - he just needs sturdy, waterproof boots, and those tend to add height.

Buck & Eddie: Buck’s therapy uniform vs. his date clothes
Full disclosure: Before the sneak peek scene of Buck and Natalia was released over the weekend, I completed a post that included my speculation of Buck attempting to process the fact that he died with Natalia (linked here) and I based my speculation on the wording that was included in the original synopsis regarding the nature of their encounter.  But for me the confusion about his intentions with her happened over the course of two days when 9-1-1 kept changing the wording of the 6x15 synopsis.  At first it stated he would be “attracted to” the death doula, then it changed to state he would be “considering a relationship” with her to finally on Monday morning, it was changed yet again to state she would be his “love interest”.  I have some ideas regarding their reasoning for all the changes but ultimately, in my opinion they did it to throw the general audience off the trail of CANON Buddie.
Also, Natalia asking Buck out for coffee was a callback to the way all the other women previously pursued him and that made it seem like she wanted to date him.  Since their whole conversation wasn’t included in the episode, there’s no way to know for sure if she was in fact flirting with him or if she was trying to get information from him that would help her professionally.  Either way, until she reappears in 6x17 “Love is in the Air”, it’s difficult to speculate especially without having more context.
_________________
When the sneak peek of Buck and Natalia’s scene at the live funeral from 6x15 “Death and Taxes” was released, I watched it and listened to the things Buck specifically said to her to determine if he was flirting with her or if he was “attracted to” the fact that she deals with death on a regular basis along with the fact that her job is to help her clients accept it.  Buck died for three minutes and seventeen seconds so it made narrative sense for him to seek out someone he could talk to.  (He should have called Dr. Copeland but that’s another post for another day).  Initially I couldn’t tell if he was genuinely interested in trying to get help with processing his death or if he was flirting but after the episode aired, I paid close attention to the clothes he wore on their “coffee date” and I realized they looked very familiar.  After I went back to season 4 and looked at the clothing he wore to therapy, that’s when I realized, Buck probably thought she could help him with accepting his death.
Before I dive into this, I need to mention the way Buck spends a lot of money on his clothes.  He’s very stylish with regards to the way he dresses and his outfits always match.  It appears they fit his body (most of the time) like they are tailored for his tall and muscular frame.  He usually looks good in the clothes he wears and he takes a lot of time making sure his appearance is up to par. Therefore, if he repeats an outfit or if he wears some variation of it with the same colors more than once, there’s a CANON reason for it.
Therapy Clothes
Buck has worn the same color shirts and pants whenever he’s done a therapy session with Dr. Copeland or if he discussed the fact that he was in therapy with someone.  In 4x2 “Alone Together”, Maddie assumed Buck had a new girlfriend because he didn’t tell her who he was sneaking off to talk to while he was on FaceTime with her and Chimney.  When his alarm went off, he left Albert talking to them, he went upstairs and proceeded to have a virtual therapy session with Dr. Copeland.  He wore a pair of navy-blue pants and a rust/orange color sweater/jumper.  In 4x3 “Future Tense” while he was baby proofing Maddie and Chimney’s apartment, he wore a t-shirt that was the same color as the jumper he wore in 4x2 and his pants were a dark color, i.e., black or dark blue.  He wasn’t shown to be in a session that day but he did finally tell Maddie and Chimney he didn’t have a girlfriend and the person he was seeing was a therapist he chose for himself.  He told Maddie he wanted to be “finer” after she showed up at the loft and he also explained how she called him sad and lonely. Then he admitted that even though he had a great life and he had people who loved him, he couldn’t trust it.
Fast forwarding to 6x15 and based on the outfit he wore on his coffee meet up or whatever it should be called with Natalia, it became clear that my initial speculation may have been correct since he wore a rust/orange color sweater and a pair of navy-blue sweatpants.  The shirt was lighter in color than it was in season 4 and I think that’s because Buck’s unsure of who he is right now.  He told Eddie everyone wants him to be the “old Buck” but he also said he’s changed (subtext that I will expound on in another post).
Tumblr media
He wasn’t wearing slacks and the BTS of him and the actress who plays Natalia validates they were sweatpants since the string could be seen.
Tumblr media
Since Buck wore what I’m going to start calling his “therapy uniform” on his coffee meet up with Natalia, it lends credence to the possibility that he went there to talk to her about the fact that he died.  He was looking for answers but her motivation for wanting to meet with him is still unclear especially since the showrunner keeps pushing the “Buck’s interested in Natalia” narrative in her post-mortem interviews.  But hopefully Natalia’s next appearance in 6x17 will clear things up once and for all.
Date Clothes
When Buck goes on a date, he’s always dressed to impress even if he wears a golf shirt and a pair of slacks like he did in 2x8 “Buck Actually” when he met AM for lunch, dinner or whatever (it was light outside when he arrived but it was dark while they were still talking to each other so who knows).  In 4x7 “There Goes the Neighborhood” Buck wore a nice black jacket, a royal blue shirt and some black slacks on his date with Veronica.  In 4x8 “Breaking Point” when he asked TK to meet him at Veronica’s for dinner, he wore a black button-down shirt, some black slacks and a black, white and gray jacket.  Even the clothes he wore when he took Eddie and Chris to Equine Therapy in 5x14 “Dumb Luck” and when he and Eddie went to Marie’s grave in 6x15, appeared to be part of his “date clothes” wardrobe instead of his “therapy uniform”.
I didn’t include any of Buck’s fancy suits that he’s worn on dates because they weren’t needed to illustrate the difference between what he wears to therapy when compared with the types of clothes he wears on dates.
The point is Buck has a “therapy uniform” and he also has date clothes so if the speculation about his attire is correct then he didn’t meet Natalia with the intention of dating her, he met with her to learn more about accepting the fact that he died.
Could his intentions change, ABSOLUTELY but if the narrative remains unchanged and it’s combined with all the things that are “supposed” to happen in the last three episodes of the season, it’s unlikely he will end up in a relationship with her.

why do I just know that Louis de Pointe du Lac has the SLUTTIEST tiniest most whorish littlest waist — I know actually for a fACt that his tiny elegant little waist was made to be grabbed by broad man hands actually. And this man,,when this man with his Slutty Tiny waist finally wears tailored suits for once, men (and women) actually collapse. Lestat? Foaming at the mouth actually,. And I also know that his side profile is godly by the way, he would have such a fine sharp nose that makes him look so haughty and fine oH THIS man. He will be the death of Lestat and myself actually.
anon, your energy is fucking unhinged and unparalleled and I have no choice but to respect it.
also you're RIGHT lmao I always headcanon Louis as having a swimmer's build, with strong arms and maybe slightly broad shoulders, but a narrow waist and Trim Legs (the kind that make Lestat all kinds of stupid)
ANYWAY tl;dr yea he's got a slutty waist and he's going to make that everyone's problem because guess what?? he pretty much exclusively wears high waisted outfits that harken back to the silhouettes that were in style during his Golden Era. everything he owns accentuates a high waistline. he's become a Big Big Big Fan of high waisted jeans with a French tucked sweater. he's in his Fall Girl Era and I love that for him.

GOP in the House in Missouri is trying to create a dress code for women legislators.
Essentially in the dress code is specifies women legislatures have to wear a "blazer". Previously the rules were "blazer or sweater". And there's several points against it being made.
Who the hell is deciding what a blazer is? Men who don't understand women's fashion?
A lot of these women spent a lot of money on their tailored suits just to be told they're not appropriate because the top is classified as a "sweater" because it's knit.
Some of the women have several kids and can't afford to go out and get tailored blazers, and why can't they wear their cardigans or whatever?
I'd like to point out. Men's dress code isn't being changed to be more strict.
And a lot of the people arguing with the women that don't like this change are deeply implying that the women are being emotional by saying things like "You would think all we would have to say is dress professionally and women could handle it." (I'd like to note it was a republican woman representative that said that.)
The women pushing back the most against this is Democrat women.

in lieu of a long weekend
10pm, sunday, oct 8, 2023
it's canadian turkey-day tomorrow ~ it's windy and grey outside ~ there is pumpkin pie in the fridge and i'm wearing an extremely pleasing wooly sweater my housemate was going to give away. we've turned the heat on for the first time this season. the cozy season of the year has arrived.
reading finished victoria goddard's whiskeyjack, book 3 in the greenwing & dart series! reading this series for me is an exercise in noticing the easter eggs that tell me it was written by a medievalist, and an academic, and a medievalist academic with a degree from the program i'm currently in. there's so much in this particular volume about poetry analysis. she came so close to using the word 'semiotic' and actually did use the phrase 'exoteric.' while i might have quibbled about things like pacing and plot and how i still don't always think first-person is a good fit in the hands of most authors, these books are like tailor-made for me. i can't not enjoy them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then on the other hand, i spent some extremely happy hours this past week with patrick o'brian's post captain. when i first read the aubrey books, i was probably in high school, fresh out of racing through the hornblower series. because the aubreyad is-- i'll be honest-- better writing, but also demands more of you as a reader, i fully didn't appreciate like 80% of this book. i knew the series, as much by osmosis as by actual time spent reading, and reading it now? felt like coming home. especially since i now have the attention, and the ability, to read between the lines. to pick up on the irony, the allusions, the humor, the misdirection! the women oh my god how did i not appreciate sophie, diana, or mrs. williams before now. i didn't mind before how little of the larger world and society made it into the movie, but i actually understand the griping now. but even more than that, i found the ship action and actual, like, battle extremely tense and interesting this time; i was up well into the night at one point just to see what would happen next, because i was nervous for my dear boys.
watching friday night double-feature with @hematiterings where we enjoyed the first three new episodes of Our Flag Means Death and finished with another two of netflix's Arcane: League of Legends, which we're probably going to finish fairly soon so i'll focus on that one. just quickly though, had a great time with the first new ofmd episode, just extremely good work from all involved, and then was weirdly not as into the second two-- though the end of ep 3 was back to grand. i think in general i like where the season is going, and i'm going to withhold further comment until we've seen some more.
Tumblr media
i was not expecting to like arcane as much as i have been. didn't have a clue what it was when we started, but the art style has absolutely blown me away. here's a quick run-down of the animation, which is a mix of hand-painted digital, 2D, and absolutely gorgeous. it looks like a video game and a painting at the same time-- not in the same way spiderverse combines animation and illustration, but with some familiar elements. people's eyes have this amazing jewel-like depth and clarity? scenery that made us go 'oh, paris looks so nice!' and 'man i love cyberpunk' and other such witticisms. but seriously, if you like good animation and also art nouveau-inspired steam-punk aesthetics, there's a lot here. plus a good (dare I? could league of legends be good, actually?) tragic story-line, and enough twists that i haven't seen coming, to really get me curious about what comes next.
Tumblr media
listening a long time ago, probably back in 2021 around the time of the most recent album, i think @mankillercalledbunny was sharing playlists or links that featured The Amazing Devil, and at roughly the same time i had a spotify playlist include a track or two for me, and now here we are. had their two albums "ruin" and "the horror and the wild" on all week, which made it a bit hard to read at times because i would get caught in the lyrics. this is exactly the kind of music two people who met at the RSC would make, it is dramatic, sort of gothic, sort of folky, sort of theater. the contrary motion, the interweaving voices, esp. in the chorus of "marbles", is where i've been living recently. i like knowing this about joey batey, i like that he has this extra dimension now when i see him as jaskier! i hope he can find a way to come back to it again, whenever.
youtube
playing i finally (after how long!) got the wizard's ink well - witch's pendant - goblins (??) quest in stardew! not a hard one at all, but so satisfying to be able to use that hint that had been hovering there in the library for the past, oh, real-world year or so. i'm like 50 pieces of hardwood away from getting the ferry up and running too, and i'm excited to move off of the plateau i've been on and open up the next level of the world.
Tumblr media
making i mentioned the pumpkin pie up top, and it did turn out well this year despite a distracted me happening to leave out the butter when mixing the filling-- i noticed before it got into the oven, luckily, and was able to add it in! but...while it was in the pie crust, which was kind of sloppy. no nicely pinched or braided crust for me this year. and then, since the size of can of pumpkin you buy here is always a little too big for the recipe, i tried out the smitten kitchen pumpkin bread that many friends have recommended before, and that has been a delight. moist without being dense or heavy, but still very substantial? a little bit less sugar than the recipe called for, and no freshly ground nutmeg, but we did have fresh ginger and overall it is very nice. it also rose architecturally, which was maybe a function of it being on a higher rack? or of me miss-counting scoops of baking soda? anyway, hilarious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
working on working on consistency. working on momentum. working on not getting in my own way. draft of this conference paper due 10/26, slides and notes for this guest lecture due 10/25, and the chapter abides. the conference paper serves it directly, however, which i feel good about. i keep finding new things to read about, and keep being glad i've continued researching, since i'm coming up with excellent (it feels) material to work with, but i can't let that get in the way of actually. writing.

Hey Tumblr I found our theme song. From 1926.
youtube
Hey Hey women are going mad, today Hey Hey fellers are just as bad, I'll say Go anywhere, just stand and stare You'll say they're bugs when you look at the clothes they wear Masculine Women Feminine Men which is the rooster which is the hen It's hard to tell 'em apart today And SAY... Sister is busy learning to shave Brother just loves his permanent wave It's hard to tell 'em apart today HEY HEY Girls were girls and boys were boys when i was a tot, Now we don't know who is who or even what's what Knickers and trousers baggy and wide, Nobody knows who's walking inside Those Masculine Women and Feminine
Stop, Look, Listen and you'll agree... with me Things are not what they used to be... you'll see You say hello to Uncle Joe, Then look again and you'll find it's your Aunty Flo Masculine Women Feminine Men Which is the rooster which is the hen It's hard to tell 'em apart today And SAY... Auntie is smoking, rolling her own, Uncle is always buying cologne It's hard to tell 'em apart today HEY HEY You go in to give your girl a kiss in the hall But instead you find you're kissing her brother Paul Mom's got a sweater up to her chin, Pa's got a girtle holding him in Those Masculine Women and Feminine Men
Now Wifey is playing billiards and pool, Hubby is dressing kiddies for school It's hard to tell 'em apart today HEY HEY Since the Prince of Wales in ladies' dresses was seen, What does he intend to be the King or the Queen Grandmother buys those tailor-made clothes Grandfather tries to smell like a rose Those Masculine Women Feminine Men
No I don't know what the hell the thing about the Prince of Wales in a dress is about.
Note this is from 1926. Because this Culture War bullshit is as old as culture.
(Also I think this is mostly just making fun of 20s fashion trends, and is obviously tongue in cheek. But some people talk about it being an early queer anthem, and this was during the height of the Fairy / Drag theater pop culture fad in places like New York and Chicago.)
(And I don't know anything about Irving Kaufman's personal life, the Internet doesn't seem to know much.)

WHY DIETRICH WEARS TROUSERS
. . . Marlene's reasons as to why she has been appearing in public in trousers tailored in regular masculine style
By JEAN CUMMINGS
Full Transcription Below!
Photo caption: Here is the famous beauty in smart tuxedo and trousers and felt hat—all made in the most masculine fashion. As a matter of fact, a man's tailor did them for Marlene. Maurice Chevalier was highly appreciative of Marlene's appearance. We can't blame him.
SEEN at the opening of "The Sign of the Cross" in a man's tuxedo, Marlene Dietrich topped the entire evening! Maurice Chevalier, who spent the intermission with the German star, seemed positively envious of the perfect cut of Marlene's mannish coat!"
The above item, in a Hollywood paper, brings Marlene Dietrich's "trouser season" to a climax. Besides Chevalier, most of the men at the theater cast longing glances at the beautiful, blond gal who stood, hands in pockets of the most perfectly fitting tuxedo in town!
True, trousers are nothing new to Dietrich! She has been wearing them for months around Hollywood. Worn them so often, in fact, that there is grave doubt in the minds of many onlookers that she even owns a dress now! Worn them in spite of the fact that almost every writer in Hollywood has twitted her. Hollywood doesn't like it! Says so—and means it! Still, Dietrich goes on wearing her trousers.
Why?
Almost everyone in the colony has put forth at least one answer to the question . . . but until now, no one has thought to ask the lady herself! Here is Marlene's own answer—told quite matter-of-factly and without pose:
I WEAR trousers for the reason that they are more comfortable!" smiled Dietrich (who at the moment was wearing gray flannels). "One can slip into a pair of trousers in two minutes, even without the aid of a mirror, and lounge around in perfect ease. The men's shirts and coats that I wear are also more comfortable than most any dress I have ever worn. I wouldn't advise every woman to wear trousers, however, because they don't fit every figure . . . my shoulders are wide like a pair of masculine shoulders!"
Before Marlene continued, I noticed that while she was wearing a suit, she wore no vest! A striped shirt with a broad, black four-in-hand tie. Silk sox and low-heeled shoes! A small beret, worn over one eye, completed the ensemble.
"Trousers and masculine clothes make me appear more feminine than dresses do!" Marlene went on, crossing her feet as she leaned against the door of her dressing room while lighting a cigarette. "I think you will agree, that certain types of women look well in masculine clothes ... even better than they do in frills and laces! I always wear plenty of flowing gowns in my pictures, but in real life a man's suit makes me feel (and, I hope look) more feminine than the most beautiful dress in the world!
"Also, it takes too much time, trouble and MONEY to be a well-dressed woman in Hollywood. Motion picture stars are always buying some terrifically expensive gown, wearing it once or twice and then discarding it because they 'can't afford' to be seen in the same dress more often! As for me, wearing a dress more than twice is easy. If it weren't for the fact that the style changes before one has the opportunity to get the gown on the third or fourth time! Isn't it silly to spend all that money . . . just for a whim? It really isn't worth it!
"In my present wardrobe, though, I have ten suits—a few pairs of extra trousers—a sweater or two—some shirts and a polo coat! That is all I need—the style will be good two years from now! I tried to figure out, the other night, what it would cost me to wear dresses during those two years . . . I quit before I reached the astounding total!
The other day, we overheard several women talking about Dietrich's costume at a recent party. They seemed unanimous in their shocking reaction. The group of men at the party had eyes for no other woman! Are women jealous of Dietrich in pants? Or do they hold the idea in contempt? What do you think?

2- transcript of a text plaque from the exhibit:
"Why she feels better in Men's Clothes.
She has all her clothes made by a man's tailor's, wears men's shirts, cravats, and hats, carries a cane just like a man, and would be perfectly contented with the arrangement if people would only stop staring at her.
'They seem to think it's a fad' complains Miss Gluck, 'but, really, it isn't. I just don't like women's clothes. I don't object to them on other women, mind you, but for myself, I won't have them... I've experienced the freedom of men's attire, and now it would be impossible for me to live in skirts. I believe the time will come when all women will be of my opinion. In the matter of dress, the girl of the future will be indistinguishable from her brother or boyfriend.'"

Dystopian Omegaverse AU: Clothing
In general: Married couples would have wedding rings depending on which marriage. When it comes to Gammas and Omegas, they wear mated collars with matching colors.
Alphas
The clothes for Alphas are tailor-made, expensive clothes that are made of luxurious fabrics. These are Burmese lotus flower silk, Vicuña wool, Koigu Kersti cashmere, and Cervelt. Their clothes can have extravagant designs in different colors as long it is not the main color. The colors must be in shades of black or gray. Some Alphas and most Elders would wear traditional, semi-formal, or informal clothes for everyday wear. For example, a female Alpha Elder from the Far East Regions can wear a black decorated kimono, which is technically called a kurotomesode, with silver embroidery, nacre kushi, seasonal tsumami kanzashi, silver obi, black getas, and white obi. Another example would be a male Alpha from the Northern Isles Region can wear a black tartan kilt with a sporran, Argyll jacket, gold cufflinks, and a pair of black Oxfords. Once they are married, they are to wear a black wedding ring.
Examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Delta Plus
The Delta Pluses wear high-end, militarized clothes to show off their military power. The primary color is green, though head towards emerald once they were married. Even their casual clothing is heavily influenced by the military, especially for Tamers as they need to assert authority over the untamed Omegas. Speaking of Tamer, they wear strict, military dresses. Men who wear Rifle green suits are either a “Techmancer” or “Securitore”. Once they are married, they are to wear a dark green wedding ring.
Examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Delta Minus
The Delta Minuses wear smart causal clothes as they are not as active in the military. The primary color is green, though it leans towards moss green once they are married. The smart casual wear allows others to be less tense around them while showing their authority. If they are overseeing Droughters, they would wear sap green, sometimes with a gas mask and riding a horse. When onboard, certain young women would wear more modest dress in a shade of olive green. These women are known as “Missionaries” as they job is to go into other nations and recruit others, primarily Omegas, children, and other vulnerable people, to go to Sol Fertilis. They would do this for three years until they can get promoted to either “Teacher” or “Trainer”. Once they are married, they are to wear a standard green wedding ring.
Examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beta Plus
The Beta Pluses wear informal clothes as opposed to Delta Minuses. This is due to their high positions that required knowledge and immense training. The primary color is blue, though it leans towards turquoise once they are married. As they are not in high positions of power, they wear this to showcase their high intelligence. On special events, the women would wear formal hats, such as mushroom hats, bicycle clip hats, and fascinator hats. Girls and unmarried women would wear doll hats, cloches, half hats, Eugénie hats, and cocktail hats. Once they are married, they are to wear a dark blue wedding ring.
Examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beta Neutral
Beta Neutral wears standard-produced clothes. They can wear pencil skirts, shirtdresses, polo shirts, and sweater vests. The primary color is blue, though it leans towards teal once they are married. They can also wear a standard blue wedding ring.
Examples
Tumblr media
Beta Minus
Despite the style, the clothes are mass-produced since they are deemed as uniforms for their respective positions. This can range from personal assistants to newscasters. The primary color is blue, though it leans towards indigo once they are married. Their casual clothes are usually dresses or a shirt and a skirt with flat shoes for women and a shirt with pants for men. Once they are married, they are to wear a light blue wedding ring.
Examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gamma Plus
Like Delta Pluses, they wear high-end clothes, such as a wrap dresses, coatdresses, blazers, and dress shirts. Their uniforms are often elegant and tailor made for give off comfort. The primary color is purple or violet, though it leans towards royal purple or burgundy once they are married. They are allowed to wear cocktail dresses, evening gowns, and black lounge suits for special events. Women can wear peach basket hats and pillbox hats. Once they are married, the women must have a head covering, depending on where they are. They also wear a pearly purple wedding ring.
Examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gamma Minus
Like Beta Minus, their clothes are cheap, mass-produced, and similar to each other, depending on their occupation. They are basically uniforms with a nametag. The color must be either mauveine, for women, or puce, for men. They would also have some accessories, such as maid aprons, high-visibility vests, hats, and gloves. Their casual clothes are usually dresses or a shirt and a skirt with flat shoes for women and a shirt with pants for men. Female Gamma Minuses must only have minimal jewelry and makeup. For the Pleasure Venues, they would wear costumes depending on which theme. For example, they would wear an oiran costume for the Edo Japan theme or gimp suits for the BDSM dungeon. Once they are married, they are required to have a head covering, depending on where they are. They would also wear bluebonnet wedding rings.
Examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omega
This is split into two categories, which are Omegas from Alpha-Omega pairs and “tamed” Omegas from Droughters. The primary color is red. The fabrics for the former’s clothes are mulberry silk, baby cashmere, Pashmina, and linen. For the latter, it’s soft cotton. The children would wear informal traditional clothes. For special events, they would wear formal, semi-formal, or folk clothes. Recently, “tamed” Omegas would wear red/wine mass-produced dresses due to them not coming from Alpha-Omega families. They wear haute-couture clothes once they’re married. Depending on where they are, they are required to wear a head covering of some sort. These include, but are not limited to, hijabs, hanging veils, shpitzels, and mantillas. They also wear a ruby red wedding ring. Maternity clothes are ready for them once they become pregnant. It’s expected for them to show off their pregnancies.
Examples
Tumblr media
Pups
Pups would wear white clothes to symbolize their birth, innocence, and renewal. They wear white until they wear the colors on their ranks.
Examples
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Droughters
Droughters wears only orange clothes if they are within Sol Fertilis. In the Menageries and Savage Zoos, they wear ragged “savage” clothes. In The Fields, they wear prison jumpsuits. These are clothes barely fit as it provides little protection from the harsh environment.

DENZIL PATRICK
Fall 2023 Menswear
Daniel Gayle, the designer behind the London menswear label Denzil Patrick, is pretty nifty when it comes to naming his collections. This spring was dubbed London Belongs To Me, while for fall he came up with the equally evocative All Dressed Up and Somewhere To Go. That sense of evocation is two fold. For one, with All Dressed Up...Gayle has tapped into the coming season's new mood for menswear: a bit more glam, a bit more peacocking, and a whole lot more newness when it comes to tailoring. And evocative because Gayle is canny in a whole other way too. There's a rich sense of narrative going on here, personal and reflective, emotive and joyful. And that could be exactly the right approach to be taking now as a tiny indie in a world of behemoth megabrands: To make your label meaningful, tell your own story, not anyone else's.
In Gayle's case, that always starts with family, with all the love, connection, and complication that entails. With All Dressed Up... the starting point was an image of his mother taken during the very early '80s in the multicultural south London neighborhood of Brixton. And, another earlier family snapshot from the '40s, of his grandmother glammed up to go shopping in London's West End, a photograph brimming with the palpable and recognizable thrill of having made the effort and having made the effort and
turned yourself out in style in a
sartorial rebuke to whatever else is going on in your life. "I'd spent so much time talking about my grandfathers, Denzil and Patrick [hence the label name]," he said, laughing, “I wanted to give a nod to the powerful women in my life."
That led him to think about the family home in Brixton; to the very fabric (literally and metaphorically) of the domestic environment-the carpets and net drapes—that have become the prints for red or silver gray plush velvet jackets and silken shirts, or lace wrap dresses which can be layered with sharp jackets and pants with a snug-fit higher waistline. The tailoring was inspired by his snappily suited young Mod uncles, while his fake furs (made from deadstock fluffy stuff) came from that image of granny.
In effect, there's a whole generational and gender interplay going on here. That's powering a lot of fashion these days, but Gayle's is specifically familial. You don't need to know anything about the Gayle clan to feel the emotional resonance in these clothes, but it's there, and it makes his work all the more compelling for it. Make fashion, but mak it feel, is the message here-like the familiar comfort of Gayle's cozy Aran cardigans, which have been recycled from vintage ones, then re-dyed in the most gorgeous shades of scarlet and emerald. It's creative ambition informed by emotion.
Elsewhere, Gayle delved again, as he has done in the past, into his early dance training, giving a nod to the the brilliant, Puck- ish Scottish choreographer Michael Clark, who danced with Leigh Bowery and in BodyMap (the bodysuit the cult '80s London duo designed for Clark featured cut-outs, memorably including one exposing his ass). That led Gayle to explore how fit and freedom of movement can work together-that very au courant wider, sloping shoulder, or the narrow, warm- up pant leg, or the deep curving armholes on a pale mauve duchesse satin tee that's been spangled with jewels. That's not the only decorative flourish. Equally personal, Gayle's partner, the artist James Bosley, sketched a sassy character called Lydia, all Jessica Rabbit curves and Riot Grrrl attitude, who appears on the likes of a sweater with an exposed back. So, yes, dressed up, to be sure, all and with enough thought and imagination to suggest these clothes are definitely going somewhere.

So heads up I’m not a writer I’m an artist I am not one of those people who can do both, so this may not be great but is an attempt just to get this idea for my au out there.

\\————————//
Summary: after the encounter with the fear Negative and Hero make their way to the market to find help for her
Characters:hero, negative, cell, tinker, tailor, guardians of the marker
\\——————————-//
It was a normal day in the market, the people walking through the streets bartering and trading to find new parts of themselves. Overall, things were normal.
A figure soon stepped out of one of the tunnels a young child held in one arm and what looking to be a sword held in the other as the figure began to walk their chains made faint clink sounds as they flowed behind them.
The figure didn’t get too far in before stopped by the guardians of the market. “RGB you were told to never return to the market you have been banned” he didn’t seem to hear the guardians as he made his way deeper into the market.
“If the child needs help give her to us and you can wait outside of the market” when the guardian went to take the child from the unusually dull colored reply headed man he suddenly swung the dark sword now visible as the head of a fear at the guardian nicking their arm, the sound of static filling the air as an eye glared at the them.
Realizing something was off made the guardians want to escort the man out more except when they tried to grab him their hand was cut off before pointing the makeshift sword at them.
This was a threat, if they didn’t let him continue what he was doing he’d make them regret it. This led to the guardians backing away for now. His attention shifted to the child in his arm as she shifted and whimpered. He gently rocked her in his arms to calm her before continuing his walk making it to cells emporium.
Upon walking in a mannequin wrapped in what seemed to be a cloth if some kind dropped down and went to say something to him but stopped seeing the girl and the one eyed Telly head.
“What did you do to her…?” She said
“…” she didn’t receive a response
“What did you do to her!!!” She screeched again and he simply pushed past her as she tried to take the child from his arms but he wouldn’t let her.
He reached a large porcupine like creature who looked.
“We’ll look what the cat dragged in you’re looking quite dull today.” The porcupine said
“Miss cell, the girls injured I think he may have done something” the women said looking to the porcupine.
“What makes you say that tailor?” She said before looking to the child who had one arm wrapped in a torn sleeve a familiar boater hat sitting on her head.
“Oh…” was all she could say. “What do you want us to do about it? You can’t even pay” she said wanting the monster to leave as soon as possible.
He gestured to the girls sweater to say he needs a new one for her.
“And why should I-“ she was cut off by a fears head coming up to her own a threat that she will help this child
“Fine but you do have to pay for it” cell said and he simply nods “Tinker!” She called and a mantis like monster came out looking over.
“I have a task for you” she said whispering something to him to which he nodded and left the monochrome Telly watching the whole time.
Cell walked off to find a new sweater for her…and maybe something a bit different as well to add some…color.
The tv monster followed not one letting the child in his arms go. She had become conscious and looked the cell.
“Miss cell?” She asked weakly
“Ah you’re finally awake Deary your friend there’s not to nice you know” cell said looking for something.
“He can be he’s just worried” she defends cell noticing the differences in the girl which worried her.
“Any specific color” she thought she knew the answer. Even from her short time with the girl in the past she had learned her favorite color but was caught off guard when she heard the answer.
“White” she said
“Would you like any colors or anything?” Cell asked to which she got a shake of the head and cell nods and sighs starting to look.
The monster sat down setting the girl in his lap gently removing the hat and letting her hold it in her available hand before gently getting the knots out of her hair being careful of the chains on his wrist.
Cell had noticed the changes of the two. Hero looked more like a soldier, and who she thought was RGB was chained like some guard dog or pet and seemed to be serving that role. She eventually found the sweater and gave it to the girl who set the hat down and got help from the monster to get the new sweater on and then her chest plate which she seemed happy with till she noticed the long sleeve from her missing arm.
“Don’t worry that should be fixed soon” cell said confusing the girl.
“What do you mean?” She asked.
“You’ll see now I have one more gift for you” she said making the young girl look. Cell pulled a bandana out of a box it was multi-colored and in the line of a test bar with red, magenta, green, blue, and yellow and gave it to the girl who stared at it.
Her hands tightened around it as she began to tear up and held the bandanna close and the monster held her comforting her a bit. Before helping her put it on.
“Thank you miss cell” she said.
“Just don’t loose that, now what do you say?” She said looking to the child.
“They are me, they are mine” she said whipping the tears with her sleeve. And cell nods.
“The gates are closing soon and we have to get you one more thing as much as I don’t want that staying here there’s not much of a choice” Cell said glaring at the monster who just stared at her before moving setting the child against him allowing her to get comfortable.
The young girl soon fell asleep against him. Cell stared at the two wondering what could have caused this change of them. Though she wasn’t sure if either would tell her.
She sighed and just went to find a spot for the night, soon everyone was asleep. And upon waking up the next morning they saw the monster was already awake.
“I’m assuming you won’t tell us what happened” tailor said to not wake the child. And as expected didn’t receive a response which made her sigh.
He went to get up to pay and leave but was stopped by cell.
“We have one more thing for her” cell said pointing to the sleeping hero. And when she finally woke up tinker came out holding something.
Hero watched curiously as he came over with it asking her to roll up her sleeve to which she did frowning at her missing arm but watched as he unwrapped what he was holding.
A prosthetic arm with hints of green in it was soon attached and she looked at it.
“Try moving it” tailor said. Hero obliged and was amazed before claiming it and being picked up by the monster who paid cell before going to leave but was stopped once more which was beginning to annoy the monster who wanted to leave.
“We have one question” tailor asked “what happened to the two of you”
Hero frowned and looked to the person holding her and then at the people in the emporium. “We’re the soldiers of hate” she said as they were pushed aside by the Telly headed man who made his way to an exit so they can continue on their way.
The people at the emporium left worried for what the two had in store and soon discussing what should be done about it and if anything could be done before hate had full control over them.

I’m on a path to getting more of my life put together in areas I’ve been neglecting.
Part 1) Fashion
- please keep sending me ideas of where to find men’s smart casual/business casual clothing for plus size women. I know about having clothes tailored but some things are always going to be easier to have made for women originally (like stretchy sweaters!). So need ideas there! I need to look more professional without being stiff or feminine - I’m looking to steal my boss’s job because she’s leaving and I’m literally planting all the seeds in the heads of people in corporate positions to hire me there when she goes. Clothing for meetings is part of that.
Part 2) Scent?
- it seems a lot of people I work with wear a light amount of professional cologne/perfume. Where do you try this stuff? Where is it not the cheap overpowering scents I remember from high school when every girl smelled like Brown Sugar Fig or Juicy and boys smelled like Axe and Old Spice? Is this worth pursuing? If so, I need
Part 3) Interior decorating
- where do you find art to decorate an apartment? Not things like posters this isn’t a dorm. I want art that makes my apartment feel cool, put together, but still comfortable. I have plain white walls. I used to have some ikea art that I decided looked like “first place after living in a dorm! art” and got rid of it.
I spend time helping people with like, building credit scores and how to get a credit card and what car maintenance entails but then these people in my life don’t really seem capable in helping me get my life together in ways they have their lives together. Straight woman friend offered to teach me how to do makeup. Like thank you for the offer but that’s not what I’m looking for.

DECONSTRUCTION DESIGNER RESEARCH- REI KAWAKUBO
Tumblr media
Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons is one of the most visionary and influential designers working today. For nearly five decades, she has defied convention to redefine fashion. Her designs have subverted garment shape and function, reframed ideas of beauty, and proposed a new relationship between body and dress.
Tumblr media
I found it really interesting how Kawakubo was committed to offering women, comme des garçons (“like boys”), clothes designed for mobility and comfort. For this reason, she never designed stilettos or had her models wear them on the runway. Her clothes were designed for the independent woman who did not dress to seduce or gain a man’s approval. She found revealing clothing decidedly unsexy and boring.
Tumblr media
Over the past past eight seasons, since her spring/summer 2014 show, Kawakubo has unveiled her arguably most radical concept. That collection focused on the idea of “objects for the body,” and signified a move away from clothing — and into abstract realms. Kawakubo has bluntly described this is a shift from clothes to “not clothes.”
Kawakubo had shown sweaters intentionally knitted with holes, created by loosening screws in the knitting machinery, impeding the construction process. She garnered the label “the mother of deconstruction” (the Belgian Martin Margiela is generally dubbed the father). Even when creating her latest collections of “not clothes,” the elaborate methods of construction frequently draw on tailoring traditions and dressmaking tactics. A knowledge of the architecture of garments underpins all Comme des Garçons creations.
Tumblr media
SPRING COLLECTION 2021
As vogue stated: Kawakubo has been striving to arrive at a creative resolution for designing in the midst of the existential plight that we’re all suffering. Dissonance was her theme, explained thus: “The human brain always looks for harmony and logic. When logic is denied, when there is dissonance a powerful moment is created which leads you to feel an inner turmoil and tension that can lead to finding positive change and progress.”
Reading this quote from Kawakubo made me think about how when you take away the logic of your designs and stop focusing on perfection, it can actually give you more ideas than you are aware of. Taking the time to deconstruct your pieces and work with a process will bring you a much better outcome than thinking towards your final pieces.

Harry Styles is the Most Wonderfully Dressed Singer in the Universe
Most singers have notable fashion adventures, but Harry Styles? In the midst of a fashion revolution. From One Direction's infancy in 2011 to today, the pop star has blessed us with so many great looks. What started with wavy hair and tight jeans quickly evolved into hand-knitted cardigans and hand-knitted sweaters within a decade.
If you want to get into the timeline of Harry's most influential ensembles, please let me break them down into some periods. The earliest notable is the period of the singer's colorful cardigans and knitted vests. From there he moved on to the era of long hair, then to the age of the playful crochet cardigan and sweater vest.Right now, Harry is in his ambitious age wearing sequins and sparkles as if it were his own business. No matter which ~Harry era~ you prefer, you're sure to enjoy all of the best Harry Styles outfits put together below.
1) Hand Knit Cardigan, Crochet Cardigan, Colorful Cardigan, Oversized Cardigan, Sweater Cardigan Women, Women's Sweater, Oversized Patchwork;
Tumblr media
2) Harry Styles Sweater, Hand Knit Sweater, Blue Sweater, Crochet Sweater, Women's Sweater, Handmade Sweater, Sweater Men, Embroidered Sweater;
Tumblr media
3) Harry Styles Vest, Floral Vest, Sleeveless Vest, Black Vest, Hand Knit Vest, Womens Vest, Boho Vest, Crochet Vest, Knit Sweater Vest
Tumblr media
4) Harry Styles Sweater, Hand Knit Sweater, Black Sweater, Crochet Sweater, Women's Sweater, Handmade Sweater, Sweater for Men, Boho Sweater
Tumblr media
Harry Styles knows how to carry clothes. Styles lived up to his last name in earnest for years. This is because he knows the definition of style: to fit his wardrobe into a series of basic elements and then have some fun with his finishing touches. From chunky cardigans to embroidered sweaters and floral patterned vests, her outfits never stop inspiring.
Harry's House is now out with his new album, we expect bigger harmony...
Each show on Harry Styles' Love On Tour offered more than just tremendous music. The performances doubled as a fashion show featuring Styles' custom-designed unisex cardigans and fans dressed in equally theatrical fits. In some cases, he even encouraged a certain dress code for his fans to follow, such as Styles' Harryween shows. The tour was the perfect combination of music, fashion and entertainment, but Styles also kills fashion play off stage.
While Styles has always been fond of fashion, this year has seen the singer really master and develop her performance style. He appeared on stage with boho cardigan, cardigan sweater and oversized cardigans. She wore summer cardigan for Halloween shows and dressed like a seriously stylish ghost in a white, frilly dress.
Styles hasn't made many red carpets this year, but in the situations he has, Styles has been a memorable fit. At this year's Grammys, he set fandom on fire when he wore a long cardigan and lavender-colored boa. She wore a sweater with a blue chick pattern; Both looks have become popular this year. At the Brit Awards, Styles channeled the 1970s with patchwork cardigans and summer cardigans. The singer's style seems to be making itself better every year, so let's prepare ourselves for what 2022 will hold. At just 28 years old, Harry Styles has established himself as one of the most talented multi-hyphens in the game.
With "Watermelon Candy", which topped the charts in 2019, she has already proven her success in singing and plunged into the world of acting. But what we're really obsessed with is Harry leading the fashion. He's come a long way since wearing hoodies and baggy jeans. He fasts forward 12 years and Harry Styles is the guy all the designers want to put on a knitted cardigan.
But if we're talking about Harry's style shift, we definitely need to discuss the early years: 2014, 2015, 2016 where Harry's tailoring rules book consists of knit cardiga, men's cardigans, wool cardigans, patterned vests, chunky sweaters and retro sweaters.
Then, around the time he was cut for a role in the 2017 Dunkirk film – he witnessed Harry's typical boy band aesthetic shift to a much more adventurous approach to fashion; Since then, she has been praised for challenging gender norms and blurring them through style.
She became the face of designers who made custom-designed cardigans, sweaters and vests, then wore a transparent, lacy blouse with a single pearl earring at the 2019 Met Gala. In December 2020, Harry appeared on the cover of several magazines, wearing a streetwear sweater paired with an oversize sweater.
She told the magazine: "The clothes are there to have fun, try on and play... When you buy something like, 'There are clothes for men and there are clothes for women,' when you remove any barriers, obviously you open them. In the arena where you can play."
And this year was a time when Harry took to the stage in sparkling, animal sweaters and colorful cardigans that dazzled us.
Transforming from One Directioner to Hollywood, the leading man accomplished much in his way of pushing the boundaries of mainstream fashion by doing very little: 90's sweaters, handknit sweaters, crochet vests, black vests, and sleeveless vests earned him both friend and foe. While Styles isn't the first man to "gender-bend" tailoring standards, her pride in enjoying fashion may compound over her, despite social pressures to conform to toxic masculinity. Definitely successful.
