Spent the day cleaning my workshop and working on a wedding gift. Building out a piano coatrack where the white keys can be levered out to hold coats, then pushed back to get the piano motif. The white keys are made of a curly hard maple, and the black keys out of some walnut. Still have a lot of sanding left and need to build the outer frame.
Rough key layout
Relief cut to let the key rotate.
Initially assembled and working. Really happy how the grain flows across the keys
Definitely not the prettiest thing I've made but I'm trying to eat up my scrap. Another shop organization and infrastructure thing. Gonna have to pick up and move in the next month or two, so I'm whittling down my wood pile, and trying to condense things.
These crates used to stay under a work bench in the shed, now they're stacked and can roll around as I need them. Probably give me a chance to take a closer look at what's in all of them and move some other things around.
Just some random pics of the workshop and mini projects that I’ve been working on. And of course, my shop steward - Hamlet. He’s a blue point Ragdoll. He’s a handsome lad. I’ll find a pic of our other cat, Fifi. She a Golden Chinchilla Doll Faced Persian and she’s just had a lion cut as her coat was getting too tangled. She’s much happier now. See you soon with another post. Sorry this one took so long - the post button had stopped working! 🤦🏻♂️🤷♂️
he’s a sparkly glitter princess child with hobbies and interests and thoughts and feelings and I bet he could make a half decent bowl on his first try if he took a pottery class
Put together a simple box to act as gift wrap for the piano coatrack. I had tried making a cardboard box but that felt like it was too simple. Also as this is a wedding gift I'm thinking they could use this as a memories box and stamped their names on the top after I took my pictures. This was made in an evening with some random pine boards, nails, and a bit of hide glue.
I'm so incredibly proud of these and so happy that I was able to get them done in time! There's a bunch of imperfections and things I wish were better, but I'm chuffed as can be!
