Went to two of my city's pride events this weekend.
Neither of them were accessible for me or most of my friends.
Kinda sucks when things made to be welcoming and accepting of all cannot welcome people because we physically cannot be in that space.
Went to the Mardi Gras fair day, most of it was on grass and inaccessible by wheelchair. Also had loud music in a lot of areas which made it so I could not be in them, even with my earbuds in.
Went to the Minus18 queer formal, the disability toilets were not accessible to my friends in wheelchairs. Also the amount of loud noise and flashing lights made it a health hazard for my friends with neurological conditions and almost physically painful for me to be in any of the space due to sensory issues.
We were told these places would be accessible.
We were told these places would be for us.
They weren't.
When a space meant to be accepting cannot accept you it fucking hurts.
I am making this post to ask one question: Why is pride inaccessible to disabled people?
(Abled people can reblog, but don't fucking clown on this, okay?)

Audio Drama Sunday: World Pride Edition 🏳️‍🌈
Boing! Boing! It’s still World Pride and it’s still Sunday somewhere in the world, which means it’s time to 🗣️ SHOUT FROM THE ROOFTOPS ABOUT A QUEER AUSTRALIAN AUDIOOOO DRAMAAAAAAH!!!
Today we are shouting out The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity, and Mortality.
Tumblr media
Created by non binary writer-sound designer-performer triple threat Dom Guilfoyle, the show is currently five seasons of surreal, psychological horror and strangeness, with a cracking sense of humour to balance it all out.
Keep an ear out in Season 4 for an appearance of our very own Lena Moon - her Mistholme character is a wee bit different to hornbag Mo!
Also! Dom’s brand new show Tales From The Low City has JUST launched its first ep!
Tumblr media
It’s high on our To-Listen queue, make sure you listen while it’s fresh from the AD oven too!
Go give Dom’s work a listen, a share, and leave them a great rating and review too!

Hey fellow Americans, did you know there's a Worldpride?
It's not in June, it happens every two years, and this year it's in Sydney, Australia, in February and March.

9:15 a.m. Sunday morning moments before starting the Sydney World Pride 2023, Pride March across the harbour bridge. I moved to Sydney from NYC over a decade ago. And I had never attended a Sydney Mardi Gras parade. I started going to the NYC Gay Pride Parade in about 1985 or 86. And I went every year afterwards too. But after moving here, and as time has gone on, the parades have seemed less about activism and a little more about fun, partying and celebration (which is good!) But even though I’m glad that things are so much better for the LGBTQI+ community today than they were at my first NYC parade.. I still feel a deep sense of grief and loss when I think about all the people whom we’ve lost to HIV/AIDS and how scary it was for us back then (and it was even worse for the generations before me). I felt a little like maybe the sacrifices made, and the lives lost are being slowly forgotten. But then I thought about some of the vile hatefulness on display in different parts of the world towards gay people and especially trans people, and I decided that I needed to go this year and participate (plus if there was ever a year to participate in Sydney; this is it. World Pride AND Mardi Gras 2023) Maybe I’m just one old guy.. but if I stand with all these other people it’s harder for the haters to pretend we don’t exist or try to make us feel we are “less than” and that we have no value. So I put on the shirt and hat I wore to the NYC gay pride parade in 1988 and showed my support for the community. And I also marched for all those people who aren’t around anymore but who got us where we are now * * * * * * * #supergorgeousness #artnerd #Instagay #instagrammers #worldpride2023 #worldpride #sydneygayandlesbianmardigras #actup #stephensprouse #learningtosee #inspirationiseverywhere #instagramphotos #appropriation #artfag #arthag #Helleaux #StayAtHomeModel (at Sydney Harbour Bridge) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpcy0wPLCrj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
