The End of the World,

HORTON PLAINS NATIONAL PARK, SRI LANKA

To see the end of the world, you must rise early. Thus, I rise before daylight and go to locate the vehicle that will transport me to Horton Plains National Park. Horton Plains National park is situated in Nuwara Eliya district and I went to Nuwara Eliya after my visit to Kandy. I'll locate 'The World's End when I go farther into the park, the high clifftop with a vista all the way across this island nation to the beach and beyond. Each day, a massive blanket of mist falls over the view, obscuring it for the remainder of the daytime hours. The World's End is halfway along the park's nine-kilometer circular path. I arrive just as the mist begins to take up the sky.

I gaze down from a cliff, more than 1,200 meters to the bottom, with no barrier between me and the air. A few clouds hover underneath me, but they just contribute to the grandeur of this picture, where mountains transition into highlands and finally into fields that abruptly stop at the shore. I'm 80 kilometers from the ocean, yet I can see it on the horizon. Don’t ever miss this opportunity on your Sri Lanka trips and add this amazing place as a must-visit.
