Name three good things going on in your life right now

Since I got promoted and switched to a different department at work I'm genuinely so much happier.

I got 27 books at the library book sale yesterday and I can't wait to start reading them.

Also this weekend in general has just been really good, I went to see Jerry Seinfeld and Jim Gaffigan live on Friday night, then had the library sale yesterday and went to the claw machine arcade afterward, and today I just get to relax with my books and my fics and chat with all you wonderful people here on Tumblr. Life is good!

When I was a teenager, I wrote some truly awful self-insert Death Note fanfic on fanfiction.net, which was unknowingly an enemies to lovers with L 🫣 then I didn’t touch fanfic for over a decade and honestly can’t remember what compelled me back to it for BG3, I think the Rolan brain rot was just too strong.

🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity

Something my creative writing teacher always said was that writers block wasn’t really real, just write literally anything and it’ll go away. I don’t 100% agree with that, but I do think there is an element of forcing yourself through it - if we only wrote when we were inspired, we’d end up not writing very much at all. As for finding inspiration to be creative - Read! Listen to music! Look at art! You might find inspo in the unlikeliest thing.

I have so many artists I love it’s ridiculous, this would have to be a 10k words post filled with nothing but tags. I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite, but I will tag @tcustodisart here as someone I recently discovered and then spent several minutes just scrolling through their work! Their Tav x Shadowheart pairing and all their modern AUs in particular warmed my heart so much.❤️

Head canon... I'm not so sure what headcanons are, but if I correctly understand the concept... I guess I have several, but right now I can only remember one. ^^

I think I should warn you is a spicy one.

They're sexless creatures but are into feti....shh....ism like B ⛓️ ...D🧤.. S...🔪... M 🐕‍🦺 regardless, because of the symbolism and parafernalia. It's a way of interaction between them that very much suit their natures, adequate to the kind of hard, slightly cold way in which they treat each other, but actually deep and inherently trusting. It allows contact that is not bounded by kindness or sweetness alone, since I'm not sailing with the flag that they're the most schmaltzy lovers in the universe. It's, on the contrary, demanding. It also involves worshiping and a string of practices that would appeal to Megatron's insatiable nature, and could be adapted to not gen-1-tal sensorial stimulus, since they don't have that.

Hopefully this is understandable enough (I have to censor everything slightly "too adult" otherwise my posts end into exile).

🥤: man there are so many good ones. But here are some of my favs:

Penumbra in the X-Files fandom is probably one of the best fanfic authors I've ever read. Her lyrical writing is enchanting and mesmerizing. Parabiosis by her literally changed my life, changed my writing and how I looked at the x-files. (Also, that fic is literally like 20 years old now and still stands the test of time.

For Battlestar Galactica I have had a soft spot for Bugsfic since I was in college. Sadly, most of her work is only on LJ... rip

And of course, I adore missparkers works. where i'm going now, i don't know is probably one of the best depictions of depression I've ever read. Plus, i sob like a baby each time i read it.

🎨: so I am trash at remembering fanart, so I'm gonna post a picture of an X-Files piece I have hanging up in my office. It's by the amazing Gabrielle Burke, but sadly I don't think this particular piece is on her insta.

🧩 - I have two pet peeves. 1) Awful formatting. I can overlook some small stuff, but if the author doesn't take the time to put like at least a darn space between the paragraphs, i physically can't read it. 2) Bad spelling mistakes. Can't do it. That's why spellcheck exists.

Well, I'm never going to turn down comments, but the ones that make me most kick my heels and twirl my hair are either the ones where someone picks out specific lines or details that they liked, or where it's just an incoherent keyboard smash. The first because it's always lovely to know that people have picked up on the things you've worked on, and the second because the main goal of any story is to create an emotional reaction (preferably not disgust)

🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing? 

Music! And not just because it's where I steal all of my fic and chapter titles from. But if I'm stuck, or trying to set the right mood for a fic, 9/10 times I'll turn to music. Which is why I always have a playlist with each of my longer fics.

🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?

When the writer can't be bothered to do the most basic formatting (using capital letters or paragraph spacing etc) or they do some kind of wanky formatting that makes it illegible. Or when they try to write the accent, and it comes out all Dick Van Dyke, 'Alrigh' la'? Snot me faul' they made me and me da' sound like a pair o' Irish pirates'. Just write it normally and let me add the accent!

There's also a growing list of fandom tropes I'm sick to death of seeing (John cutting up clothes in Hamburg, the fucking ID bracelet, and more), but if I come across one of those in a fic I otherwise like, I might roll my eyes, but I wouldn't nope out if I was enjoying it

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?

The short answer: because of 6 years of writer's block. The long answer: the very first fanfic I wrote with the intention of posting it was for Doctor Who. I'd discovered a lovely community of Ten/Donna fans and they were all having such a great time posting their fics on Livejournal. At the time, I was 6 years into the most horrible writer's block ever. I'd always written my own stories since I was a kid, had a little success with getting some short stories published in my teens, then all of the sudden... nothing. My writing just shut down. But the desire to get in the sandbox and play along with my Ten/Donna fans was SO strong, I told myself I could write a drabble. Just 100 words so I had something to contribute. And I did. Here it is from when I reposted my DW fic to my AO3 (originally written in 2008) "Sometimes, No, It Doesn't." Just a teeny little ficlet but what it represented was so much more. I got my writing back, thanks to these 100 words and the amazing Doctor/Donna community! *hugs* 🤗💖

❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?

Hn, this one is tough because, as a reader, a lot of times I don't know what I want to read until I discover it, lol! If I start thinking about themes and plots, I end up prompting myself to try and write them (for better or worse, lol) but when I'm reading, I honestly love the adventure of "I had no idea I needed to read this but WOW do I need to read this immediately, if not sooner!" when I come across a fic description.

I was a depressed, queer, rural teenager on Mugglenet lmao.

☁️ What made you choose your username?

It's a very kitschy thing and when I was changing usernames back in the LJ days being from The Bottom Of The World was what most people associated with me, so I just embraced it. TBH I wish I could change it but I think that ship has sailed at this point.

I do! Two dogs and three cats. No pics, just please imagine a series of chaos demons and you pretty much have it right.

Anytime someone asks for recs in my general vicinity, if there's even the slightest possibility of shoehorning this into whatever they asked for, I do it. No relationship angst, just fucking fantastic and immersive post-canon deliciousness. I reread this at LEAST once a month, it literally never gets old.

How did you get into writing fanfiction?

I can remember being very young at my grandparents' house and suddenly announcing to them that I'm going to write a book and then laying on the floor with blank paper writing something about the characters from Recess. I suppose that counts as my first fic but I don't really know what prompted me to want to do that.

Anyway, I consider A Series of Unfortunate Events my first "real" fanfic writing fandom. When I got into the series only 10 books were out and I was having trouble waiting for the 11th book to come out, and I believe it was my aunt who told me I should just write the next part myself. So then I did. And then I went on the internet and found other people were also doing this. This was like 6th grade and I probably still have that notebook around somewhere...

Share some personal lore you never posted about before.

I don't think I've ever talked about it here, but a few years ago I used to work for a radio station. I bragged about it at the time because I got paid to go to concerts and got a bunch of free stuff, but honestly that job was miserable. The pay was awful, the hours were shit, they wouldn't make me full time so I had no benefits, my boss wasn't very nice, and on more than one occasion I felt like my life was on the line. The second I got an offer for a boring office job, I left. But hey, I got to meet Sabrina Carpenter.

Name one internet reference that will always make you laugh.

Oh, I lose it any time someone mentions Weeaboo Drug Dealer Thomas Jefferson.

🧩 What will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?

The two big ones typically are if they write a character in a way I just don't mesh with or if I run across something that should've been tagged and wasn't. And by that I mean something that I have filtered and/or avoid.

☁️ What made you choose your username?

It's from an old game on the Super Nintendo called Earthbound! Probably in my top five favorite games, it's a very fun and silly rpg.

🦴 Is there a piece of media that inspires your writing? 

Oh there are lots! Especially with doing all the AU's that I do. So it really depends on the story. Some are kind of silly though. For instance the steampunk au I'm working on I thought of after playing Animal Crossing one morning and found a steampunk outfit you could buy in the game 😅 And then it spiraled out of control (like most things I start writing these days).

The one that's coming to mind as of writing is the length of the Bayeux Tapestry (it was because I wanted a frame of reference for the length of time it took to make something of that length. The question was in relation to the making of Affril's long-tailed coat 🤣)

🦋 ⇢ share something that has been on your heart and mind lately 

Two words but one character: crow lady! (also known as Claudia). She's appeared in so many of my recent flash fiction notes, she's made appearances/been the lead or main character for the past four of my flash fiction pieces in a row and I was thinking about it earlier today; she's probably one of the most influential people at least within my cast of characters. A lot of my plotlines trace back to her in some way, I've no clue why 🤷‍♀️🤣

🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing? 

There actually is, and that's Maleficent, the live-action one released in 2014. I love this movie, definitely one of my top favourites, but it's basically an accident that I took inspiration from it.

It's like certain concepts appeared in my brain during the idea creation process and it was not until later when I realised 'oh, some of this seems familiar, oh 👀😂'.

I remember really being endeared by Maleficent's arc with Aurora, I liked the concept of it and that may have influenced my plotline where Claudia got her hands on Charimone 👀😂

(The main inspiration for that came from a writing prompt I saw on tumblr)
