I recently finished Never Mind the Bollocks by The_Sinking_Ship. Since that day, it has been living in my head rent-free, and will remain there. Perhaps for a long, long time.

Every time I try to collect my thoughts to articulate every single thing I loved about a fic, I just end up screaming and dying with the feels. So instead of words, here’s some drawn lines (and more screaming).

Draco can think of only one way to outclass his pleat-front-khaki-wearing politician ex, and that’s by making headlines with an obvious upgrade. And who better to upstage the cheating bastard than the Saviour of the World, Harry Potter himself? Sure, Potter is a little rough around the edges in ripped jeans, a rumpled tartan shirt, and a permanent scowl. Draco reckons a haircut and a shave wouldn’t hurt, either. But Potter is also in need of a Healer willing to keep his secrets, and Draco is just the man for the job. It’s a perfectly reasonable exchange. They need only attend a couple parties arm-in-arm, smile nicely for the paparazzi, and tolerate each other long enough to convince everyone they’re smitten. In return, Draco will keep Potter alive and in one piece. But it isn’t long before Draco realises he might be in over his head, because Potter is ten tonnes of trouble packed into a leather jacket, and seems keen on hurtling himself towards death on the back of a flying motorbike. And that says nothing of Potter’s penchant for fire-breathing beasts and things that bite. Ah well, at least they’ll have some fun while it lasts. After all, Draco always did like a bit of danger. Except Head Auror Potter is everywhere — in Draco’s chair, at his door, in his dreams. All six feet of motorbike-riding, combat-boot-wearing, sex-hair-sporting Saviour of the World packed into one unfairly fetching uniform. They'd agreed to a fake relationship — in Harry's case, to get the wizarding world to take him off his 'perfect saviour' pedestal, and in Draco's case, just to be given a chance in wizarding society at all — but neither of them expected just how difficult that might really turn out to be. Especially when the stakes grow ever higher, and they both start falling for each other. Just a little bit.

What I loved:

Okay, so this is not the first rec I have made of @the-sinking-ship’s work and it probably will not be the last, because I am absolutely in love with their characterization of Draco. He is by far my favorite Draco I have read recently, and his voice is so clear and resonates so much with me, and his inner voice is just so spot on. I adore the way he is written and he makes this story such a stand-out.

Okay, fake dating is my favorite trope hands down. I fall for it every single time, and this story is no exception. Except this time it’s fake dating, but Harry is also a fearless ( and reckless) dragon tamer. That just takes the whole thing up a notch. The story is hot, tender, sweet, filled with amazing moments and has a ton of heart. I love the world- building here, and this author has a way with telling a story that is so emotional and just makes you feel all the feels. I read this in one go, and immediately wanted to just start it over right back from the beginning just to experience it again.

And once again I’ve stumbled on a lovely story supplemented with wonderful art by @babooshkart and @fictional that also needs to be mentioned.

Harry Potter, how does Draco Malfoy hate thee? Let me count the ways.

Look, I had a healthy pour of wine and asked @cibeewastaken for a fic rec and damn. Just like, wow.

So, I have somehow conned Cibee into letting me read her fics first (I know, right) and right away, I got why she likes this so much.

The_Sinking_Ship and Cibee remind me so much of each other, while also being WILDLY different, it's astounding. This is like, one of those "If you like The Courting by the Pureblood Who Only Has Five Milligrams of Romantic Intelligence and Thinks He's Real Smooth, then you'll like this fic" feel.

Cause, holy hell, you're gonna enjoy Stupid Love. Like, a lot. A lot a lot.

A lot.

This is all from Draco's POV and he's hilarious and snarky and gorgeously written. I could fall in love with him every day and I certainly see why Harry did. He's fickle and brilliant and living the life he thinks he should live instead of doing what actually will make him happy. And he (of course) hates one Harry James Potter. Like a rational person

Harry is gorgeous and magically powerful (yes, thank you) and basically so soft on Draco it made me remember what it felt like to fall in love with my spouse.

Also there's sex and good lord. Good lord.

So yes, basically if you want something that makes you believe in the good of the world read this. I'm not even kidding, it's so lovely and sweet and I loved it so much.

MY FAVOURITE AUTHORS OF AO3

It began with the 'Queer as Folk' series. It changed me, made me see the world differently.

Looking for stories related to QaF, I came across 'Archive of Our Own'. There - among many fantastic authors - I came across Frayah. It changed me even more.

Frayah had also written stories in the 'Harry Potter' fandom. And that's how I ended up in alternative worlds completely different from those in the books.

Frayah hasn't written for years now. I worry about her because she mentioned her troubles and suffering. I send her good thoughts, my gratitude, and even a prayer.

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

tbh, I think all of them are inspired by personal experiences, to a certain extent. However, ofc, some are more obvious ^^"

Don't Quit Your Day Job is based on me staying at a hotel casually looking for something in the drawer and stumbling upon a certain magazine. Though definitely did NOT look through, so there was no boss of mine there, nor the reactions XD

Happy Ending was written as my own attempt to rewrite a part of my history. I did not have the happy ending, tho.

I refuse to believe that, but my therapist claimed that The Wedding Date in a way was based on me, as well, and an attempt to handle the fact that my dad is an old fashioned....... yeah. Well. I did not bother coming out, nor did I ever have a fake relationship, nor was I pressured to get married, but whatever.

Anyway, those are the most "concrete" ones, but I do leave a piece of myself in each of my works.

F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Alright, I already talked about that 100% dialogue smut of mine XD So I'll have to find something else for this one! I think I'll go with my Erised piece, Wake Up And Smell The Coffee. It's Harry and Draco talking on what is their first date, and there was a tense moment of Draco learning about Harry's fucked up childhood. Harry tries to be all natural, commenting on the music Draco chose, but being completely off the mark. Draco used the opportunity to lighten the mood. I also, of course, mirrored this specific convo in the ending, with Draco being a tad suggestive :)

“I can’t be dating someone who cannot tell the difference between Laqora and Oraprix.”

Harry blinked. “Who?”

“Merlin, Potter! Did you spend your entire life living under a rock, or something?” he said, which made Harry frown. Malfoy let out a short laugh. “Don’t worry. By our third date you’ll be a bit more educated.”

Harry blinked again, but for a whole other reason. “Third date?”

“Why, yes. You didn’t think I was going to put out on the first date, did you?”

Heat spread through Harry’s cheeks. “I – I didn’t say anything about –”

“Relax,” Malfoy said, and tilted his glass to swirl the wine inside. He glanced at it, and then looked directly at Harry, and smirked. “I always put out on the first date.”

To be honest, it mostly made me laugh XD Draco likes being a hoe...

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

Oh for sure!!! I know for a fact that Rhysenn had influenced me. Honestly, I'm not sure I would've gotten into slash fiction at all if it wasn't for their Irresistible Poison fic. Also... I'm pretty sure I was influenced by BeautifulFiction, UP2L8, and my Draco is influenced by The_Sinking_Ship's Draco, just a little bit. Though my Draco, as was established, is a hoe. 🙃

X: A character you enjoy making suffer.

Oh ho ho ho. Why. I like making them all suffer 😈😈😈

For real though, I think my favorite to torture is Ed. He just reacts to it in such an interesting way. Draco, too. I mean, it's evil. They've both been through so much already!!! They deserve only good things, and I sit here, putting them through hell.

But I (almost) always give them the happy ending they deserve. Hopefully that makes up for making them suffer so much.

(As for killing, I enjoy killing Lucius off. Like. A lot. As in almost always. I also have the tendency to kill off Alphonse. As a means to torture Ed, though.... it's so interesting to see what would've happened with him if it wasn't for Al.)

Y: A character you want to protect.

Funnily enough, the very same ones??? Though then I'll have to add to the list also Harry (I think he might be first place in the list honestly, that boy... God, he needs SOMEONE on his side), Pansy (she's too hilarious, honestly), Havoc (but some light-hearted fun doesn't hurt right?), Arthur Weasley, and... yeah okay I think everyone else are fair game. lol

How come Roy isn't on either of those lists? Weird. I like torturing him in a light-hearted way like making him find a single grey hair or something like that. That's sooooooo much fun.
