X-Raid confirma alineación de cuatro autos para el Dakar 2023: Przygonski y Halpern con el Plus T1+, Krotov y Al-Qassimi con el Buggy

El equipo X-Raid buscará prenderse en el Dakar 2023 con un nuevo auto que pretende que vuelvan a pelear los primeros puestos, luego de que el último par de años privilegiaran en alineación al Q Motorsport con el proyecto de Audi. Esta temporada X-Raid llega al Dakar con un nuevo auto cumpliendo la normativa T1+ con una alineación de duplas veloces en Kuba Przygonski y Armand Monleón y el argentino Sebastián Halpern con Ronnie Graue llevando el debut del MINI JCW Rally Plus. Además, el fiable y querido MINI JCW Buggy volverá una nueva edición tratando de meterse entre los primeros pero sin la reglamentación T1+: Khalid Al-Qassimi y Ola Floene pilotarán la primera unidad con Denis Krotov y Konstantin Zhiltsov en la segunda.

X-Raid cumple 20 años en el Rally Cross Country y buscará sumar otro gran resultado a su potente historia donde han ganado seis ediciones del Dakar en 2012, 2013 (Peterhansel), 2014 (Roma), 2015 (Al-Attiyah), 2020 (Sainz) y 2021 (Peterhansel). 

Kuba Przygonski es la principal carta del X-Raid de cara a este Dakar y el polaco llega con nuevo navegante en Armand Monleón que viene de ser el copiloto de Lucio Álvarez en el Dakar 2022 y el Mundial de Cross Country donde ganaron el Rally de Kasajistán. Antes, Monleón fue navegante de Gerard Farrés en los SSV. Przygonski, ex-motard que llegó a ser P6 en motos en 2014, viene compitiendo en los autos desde 2016 y acumula ya 5 Top 10 en 7 participaciones con mejor resultado de cuarto en 2019 y 2021. En 2022 pilotando un MINI JCW Buggy del X-Raid fue sexto, un resultado bastante notable considerando que el Buggy estaba en desventaja mecánica con los T1+.

El mendocino Sebastián Halpern buscará mejorar el octavo puesto del Dakar 2022, donde también corrió con el Buggy en desigualdad mecánica. Después de iniciar su carrera en los Quads donde llegó a ser segundo en 2011, Halpern se pasó a los autos donde consiguió la novena posición con un programa privado en 2018. Desde entonces estuvo fuera de la competencia hasta regresar junto al probado navegante Ronnie Graue en 2022, también entrenando en el Mundial de Cross Country.

El Dakar 2023 comienza dentro de 11 días, el 31 de diciembre en Arabia Saudita.

Sainz & Cruz Victorious at 2020 Dakar Rally

Carlos Sainz (ESP) and his co-driver Lucas Cruz (ESP) have won the Rally Dakar for the third time, having previously triumphed in 2010 and 2018. In doing so, they presented MINI with its fifth overall victory at the iconic endurance rally. 

For MINI and MINI Motorsport partner X-raid, this was the first success since their winning run together, which lasted from 2012 to 2015. The Spanish pair, in the MINI John Cooper Works Buggy, finished 6:21 minutes ahead of last year’s winner Nasser Al-Attiyah (QAT) after roughly 7,500 kilometers through Saudi Arabia, which was hosting the Dakar for the first time.

Dakar record winner Stéphane Peterhansel (FRA) and his co-driver Paulo Fiuza (POR) finished third, 9:58 minutes behind Sainz and Cruz, to round off an impressive performance from the two MINI JCW Buggies. The two MINI JCW Buggy crews each won four stages, while MINI vehicles went fastest on a total of nine of the twelve days. Vaidotas Zala (LTU) / Saulius Jurgelenas (LTU), in a MINI JCW Rally, won the very first Dakar stage on Arabian soil on the opening day.

Seven of the nine MINI crews that started the rally reached the finish in Al-Quiddia (KSA), four of them in the top ten. Orlando Terranova (ARG) and Bernardo ‘Ronnie’ Graue (ARG) finished in the top three on three days on their way to sixth place overall in the four-wheel drive MINI JCW Rally. Local favourite Yasir Seaidan (KSA) and his co-driver Alexey Kuzmich (RUS) were ninth and finished an excellent second on the closing stage. Jakub ‘Kuba’ Przygonski (POL) and co-driver Timo Gottschalk (GER) had their hopes of a top result dashed on the opening day when a technical issue resulted in them losing six hours. They eventually finished in 19th place, 8:35.18 seconds off the lead.

MINI vehicles topped the overall standings after every one of the twelve legs at the 40th staging of the Dakar Rally. Zala and Jurgelenas got the ball rolling with victory on the opening stage, after which Terranova and Graue took the overall lead on day two. Sainz and Cruz claimed their first stage win on the third leg. That victory took them to the top of the overall standings – a position they held right through to the finish.

Jakub “Kuba” Przygonski (POL) and Timo Gottschalk (GER) have won the Dubai International Baja, round two of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Bajas, in a MINI John Cooper Works Buggy. Second place on both stages proved sufficient to earn the X-raid duo overall victory.

Since switching from motorcycle to car, Przygonski had raced only in the four-wheel drive MINI. The first time the Pole climbed into the two-wheel drive MINI JCW Buggy was for the Shakedown at the Dubai International Baja.

His co-driver Gottschalkwas familiar with the car from the 2018 Dakar Rally.

X-Raid presenta al MINI John Copper Works Rally Plus y comienza el asalto a los T1+

El preparador alemán X-Raid no se ha querido quedar atrás de la nueva reglamentación de los T1+ y después de un año de desarrollo ha lanzado hoy su nueva arma para esta categoría principal del Mundial de Rally Raid FIA W2RC y el Dakar: El MINI John Cooper Works Rally Plus. Será pilotado en tres semanas por Kuba Przygonski y Sebastián Halpern en el primer año del auto en el Dakar. 

Según X-Raid, el MINI JCW Rally Plus combina lo mejor de dos mundos, tomando elementos del MINI JCW Buggy y del MINI JCW Rally que lleva más de 10 años siendo referencia en el Dakar. El auto es 4x4 pero toma elementos aerodinámicos y de diseño del Buggy. El auto incorpora mejoras aerodinámicas, de suspensión y amortiguadores sobre el JCW Rally además de los neumáticos de mayor aro gracias a la reglamentación T1+. Por otra parte se ha trabajado en el motor para controlar la potencia a través de electrónica en lugar de flujo de aire lo que permitirá mayor eficiencia en el consumo y las emisiones. 

El nuevo MINI JCW Rally Plus también se suma a los otros equipos que están trabajando en un Dakar sustentable y será propulsado por un combustible sintético de segunda generación llamado HVO que está basado en aceites vegetales y botellas plásticas.

The motorcycle and quad competitors remained in the bivouac today, following the death of motorcyclist Paulo Gonçalves yesterday.Today’s eighth stage, around the bivouac in Wadi Al Dawasir, shook up the timesheets at the Dakar 2020. Orlando “Orly” Terranova and Bernardo “Ronnie” Graue (both ARG) finished third in the MINI John Cooper Works Rally, behind Mathieu Serradori and Fernando Alonso. Jakub “Kuba” Przygonski (POL) and Timo Gottschalk (GER) ended the stage in sixth place.

The Bahrain JCW X-raid Team crew of Stéphane Peterhansel (FRA) and Paulo Fiuza (POR) cameback ninth in the MINI JCW Buggy. Their team-mates Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz were 13th. Although Sainz still holds the overall lead, ahead of Al-Attiyah and Peterhansel, today’s results have seen the gaps between the top three come down.

Stephane Peterhansel logra su 14° victoria en el Dakar

Stephane Peterhansel ha hecho historia nuevamente. El piloto con más victorias en el Dakar lo ha vuelto ha hacer logrando su decimocuarta victoria en la carrera de rally más difícil del mundo y su octava en los autos. El éxito de Peterhansel se produce exactamente 30 años después de su primer triunfo con Yamaha en las motos. El piloto de MINI tomó el control de la clasificación general en la segunda etapa y no volvió a mirar atrás, manteniendo la ventaja con respecto a Nasser Al-Attiyah. Fue un Dakar de dominio claro para Peterhansel, pese a que el francés solo ganó una etapa: Mr. Dakar administró el rally como solo él lo sabe hacer.

Es la segunda victoria consecutiva de X-Raid y la sexta de su historia en el Dakar. El MINI JCW Buggy ha sido el responsable de los últimos triunfos. También es la primera victoria de Peterhansel con su nuevo navegante Edouard Boulanger.

Carlos Sainz ganó la última etapa, su tercer triunfo de 2021 para sacarse un poco la rabia de un Dakar extremadamente complicado, en el que los errores de navegación principalmente, además de los pinchazos y fallas mecánicas lo han dejado a casi una hora de la victoria general en tercera posición.

Nasser Al-Attiyah ha vuelto a salir a presionar intentando recortarle a Mr. Dakar, pero no ha podido hacer demasiado. El qatarí terminará en segundo puesto nuevamente detrás de un MINI JCW Buggy, muy molesto con su proveedor de neumáticos BF Goodrich después de enfrentar más de 16 pinchazos durante toda la carrera. Así es demasiado difícil pelear con un fuera de serie como Peterhansel, aún con una Toyota Hilux competitiva. 

Kuba Przygonski finalmente registró el honor de ser el mejor del resto al terminar en cuarta posición, aunque a más de 2 horas y media de Peterhansel. Ha sido un sólido Dakar para Kuba, que después de varios años dejó el MINI JCW Rally y se subió a la Toyota Hilux del Overdrive. A juzgar por el resultado, no ha sido una mala decisión.

En la quinta posición, Nani Roma ha completado los 7.000 kilómetros de carrera con su BRX Hunter. Si bien Sebastien Loeb sufrió todas las fallas mecánicas existentes hasta su abandono, tal vez al forzar más su 4x4, Roma fue sólido todos los días, sin terminar necesariamente demasiadas veces entre los 5 mejores, pero siempre entre los 10 - 15 más rápidos. La suma de tiempos no miente y el catalán ha demostrado que el BRX Hunter, un auto que tiene menos de 6 meses de vida, puede terminar un Dakar. El ritmo es un punto que tendrán que abordar en los próximos meses para llegar mejor preparados al Dakar 2022.

Finalmente por solamente 7 segundos, Khalid Al-Qassimi vence a Vladimir Vasilyev por la sexta posición de la clasificación general.
