Első helyen érkezik Magyarországra a MINI John Cooper Works Rally
Tumblr media
2018 augusztusában ismét hazánkba látogat az FIA Cross Country Világkupa mezőnye: a Hungarian Baja jubileumi, immáron tizenötödik felvonását augusztus 9-12-e között rendezik meg a Dunántúlon. Érkezik a MINI John Cooper Works Rally.

As ‘Official Vehicle Partner’, BMW Group has been closely linked with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship since the very first race around seven years ago. Since the Rome E-Prix (ITA) at the weekend, a new FIA Formula E safety car leads the field: the MINI Electric Pacesetter inspired by JCW. The fully electric car was designed by BMW Motorsport such that racing technology makes it perfectly suited to the special requirements of a FIA Formula E safety car. FIA President Jean Todt and the official FIA Formula E safety car driver Bruno Correia (POR) were among those won over at a race weekend with plenty of safety car action.
The positive verdict of former racing driver Correia is a great description of the unique character of the MINI Electric Pacesetter inspired by JCW. In this instance, BMW Motorsport did not convert an existing road vehicle into the FIA Formula E Safety Car. Instead, the engineers used the new MINI Cooper SE (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined energy consumption: 17.6 – 15.2 kWh/100 km according to WLTP, 16.1 – 14.9 kWh/100 km according to NEFZ, combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km) as a basis to design a totally new safety car.
“We approached the project both in terms of safety and handling as if we were building a racing car, and started with the body in white of the MINI Cooper SE,” described Rudolf Dittrich, head of vehicle development at BMW Motorsport. “The result is a car that sets standards in braking power, cornering performance and agility. And it is precisely these areas that are crucial on the narrow street circuits in Formula E.”
In addition to the body in white, the powertrain is another component taken from the production vehicle. Only details were modified to meet the specific requirements of a safety car, and it yields 135 kW of power and 280 Nm of torque. This sees the MINI Electric Pacesetter inspired by JCW sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds (production: 7.3 sec.), from 0-60 km/h in 3.6 sec. (production: 3.9 sec.) and from 80-120 km/h in 4.3 sec. (production: 4.6 sec.).
The brakes are largely identical in construction to those of the MINI John Cooper Works GP (combined fuel consumption: 7.3 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 167 g/km). For the chassis, the basic concept was adopted from production; however, numerous components (for example, the spring damper system) were replaced with motorsport elements. A totally new feature is the Kevlar underride guard familiar from rallying, and which primarily protects the battery of the MINI Electric Pacesetter inspired by JCW when driving roughly over kerbs. The size, profile and rubber compound of the tyres have also been modified for use as a safety car.
Through the consistent use of carbon and CFRP in the construction of the specific bodywork modifications, some of which were even produced using 3D printing, the BMW Motorsport engineers were able to achieve a weight reduction of around 130 kg compared with the production model, and thus an unladen weight of around 1,230 kg. The safety car contains all the modules required by the FIA for passive safety. In the interior, the driver has all the required systems such as radio, GPS, transponder and the control panels for the lighting system.

Sainz & Cruz Victorious at 2020 Dakar Rally
Carlos Sainz (ESP) and his co-driver Lucas Cruz (ESP) have won the Rally Dakar for the third time, having previously triumphed in 2010 and 2018. In doing so, they presented MINI with its fifth overall victory at the iconic endurance rally.
For MINI and MINI Motorsport partner X-raid, this was the first success since their winning run together, which lasted from 2012 to 2015. The Spanish pair, in the MINI John Cooper Works Buggy, finished 6:21 minutes ahead of last year’s winner Nasser Al-Attiyah (QAT) after roughly 7,500 kilometers through Saudi Arabia, which was hosting the Dakar for the first time.
Dakar record winner Stéphane Peterhansel (FRA) and his co-driver Paulo Fiuza (POR) finished third, 9:58 minutes behind Sainz and Cruz, to round off an impressive performance from the two MINI JCW Buggies. The two MINI JCW Buggy crews each won four stages, while MINI vehicles went fastest on a total of nine of the twelve days. Vaidotas Zala (LTU) / Saulius Jurgelenas (LTU), in a MINI JCW Rally, won the very first Dakar stage on Arabian soil on the opening day.
Seven of the nine MINI crews that started the rally reached the finish in Al-Quiddia (KSA), four of them in the top ten. Orlando Terranova (ARG) and Bernardo ‘Ronnie’ Graue (ARG) finished in the top three on three days on their way to sixth place overall in the four-wheel drive MINI JCW Rally. Local favourite Yasir Seaidan (KSA) and his co-driver Alexey Kuzmich (RUS) were ninth and finished an excellent second on the closing stage. Jakub ‘Kuba’ Przygonski (POL) and co-driver Timo Gottschalk (GER) had their hopes of a top result dashed on the opening day when a technical issue resulted in them losing six hours. They eventually finished in 19th place, 8:35.18 seconds off the lead.
MINI vehicles topped the overall standings after every one of the twelve legs at the 40th staging of the Dakar Rally. Zala and Jurgelenas got the ball rolling with victory on the opening stage, after which Terranova and Graue took the overall lead on day two. Sainz and Cruz claimed their first stage win on the third leg. That victory took them to the top of the overall standings – a position they held right through to the finish.

In January 2020, the Dakar Rally embarks on a new chapter: After ten events in South America, the iconic desert rally will take place in Saudi Arabia for the first time. As it takes on this new challenge, X-raid is counting on the experience held by Carlos Sainz (ESP) and Stéphane Peterhansel (FRA), each of whom will be at the wheel of a further-developed X-raid MINI John Cooper Works Buggy.
Sainz has won the Dakar twice in the past – most recently in 2018. “El Matador” is one of the biggest personalities in rallying, and once again has got the ambitions of taking victory in 2020. Before switching to off-road racing, he won the World Rally Championship on two occasions (1990, 1992). The man from Madrid can rely on the support of his long-term co-driver Lucas Cruz (ESP).
For Stéphane Peterhansel, the coming Dakar will be a very special one: His wife Andrea will navigate for him at this event for the first time. The husband and wife duo won this year’s Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge together and finished runner-up in Kazakhstan.
As such, “the Peterhansels” still have a chance of taking overall victory in the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies. They are currently second in the table, nine points off the lead.
Stéphane Peterhansel claimed the first Dakar victory for X-raid in 2012, at the wheel of a MINI ALL4 Racing. One year later, he repeated that success. In total, “Mr. Dakar” has won the iconic desert rally 13 times. Six of those victories have come on motorcycles, the remaining seven on four wheels.

History of the Mini Cooper
The Mini has gone past its hustling vehicle roots to turn into a symbol of an age. The previous hustling vehicle is perpetually connected to the 1960s and symbols like John Lennon and, all the more as of late, the beguiling Prince Harry. As a famous vehicle, it has likewise had its impact in the takeover and relaunch of the brand under BMW in the previous decade. Varieties of the Cooper and Cooper S have stuck to this same pattern with triumphs like the Mini Hatch and other Mini models in the brand's brilliant history.
Where did all start?
The historical backdrop of this astonishing little vehicle wouldn't be finished without a notice of the cooperation between the two key players in its advancement and plan - the British Motor Company (BMC) and the Cooper Car Company.
The first Mini was created during the 1950s by the BMC in a joint effort with the planner, Sir Alex Issigonis. It initially was conceptualized as a response to the issue of fuel lack and the call for progressively effective vehicles appropriate for city-driving. It was structured as a two entryway, 4 chamber motor vehicle and a monocoque shell which implied the external "shell" or "skin" of the vehicle bolstered the main part of the vehicle's weight.
The principal adaptation was known as the Mark I and it was connected to the BMC's other image names that additionally incorporated the Morris Minor and the Austin. The principal Mini was propelled in 1959 and its notoriety as a conservative vehicle developed until it had its very own one of a kind personality and following. The later form, the Mark II, saw BMC adding another grille to the plan.
The Racing History
John Cooper of Cooper Car Company understood the Mini's potential as an engine sports vehicle and he persuaded the creator, Sir Alex Issigonis to make the new model: The Mini Cooper. The new model of Mini was propelled as the Mini Cooper in 1961 and the Mini Cooper S in 1963.
The Mini Cooper displayed a 848cc motor while the Mini Cooper S had a 1071cc motor. The main appearing of the Mini Cooper S as a symbol in the hustling scene was at the Monte Carlo Rally. The Mini Cooper S rendition was the star during the 1964, 1965 and 1967 revitalizes. It was additionally given the middle of everyone's attention in the first form of the British motion picture, The Italian Job, in 1967 when the culprits of the heist utilized Mini Coopers and S-models to draw off the bank work.
The Mini after the 1960s
The vehicle appreciated a veritable clique following in the sixties, yet the brand endured a misfortune during the 80s when the brand was procured by Spanish and Italian organizations. Rather than pushing ahead with the structure and developing, the new proprietors turned out with models that were pretty much straightforward varieties of the first plan. This pushed the Mini Cooper from fame to the curiosity showcase.
It was during the 1990s that the brand was exchanged from the control of the Rover Group to its new and current proprietor, the German vehicle maker, BMW. The organization held the rights to the Mini brand even subsequent to having sold their enthusiasm for the Rover Group. They relaunched the Mini Cooper in 2000 and the brand has been developing and advancing since.
The Mini Cooper Today
The Mini today has made changes to the first Mini for bring forth and hardtop forms. The brand has likewise discharged a unique release Mini Classic Cooper and Mini Cooper Sports vehicle. The striking changes incorporate the utilization of a Toyota diesel motor and an attack into the convertible and bring forth advertise. Pack and idea vehicles, for example, the S Works and the John Cooper Works GP Kit have additionally been added to the line-up.
