Layering combinations I've been enjoying lately; Light Blue Summer Vibes EDT + Sundae Mellow Yellow EDT, honestly Summer Vibes is great layered with anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eilish EDP + Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar | 42 EDP, the next one didn't take much imagination as they launched together for Christmas last year, but they're perfection combined, L'Etoile Golden EDP + L'Etoile White EDP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Light Blue Summer Vibes EDT + Lira EDP and an honourable mention to the following combo. I swear I still can't decide if I like Pearl or not, yet I keep reaching for it (also think it's going to be great for layering), Toy 2 Pearl EDP + Light Blue Summer Vibes EDT.

perfume mini-reviews: lemon gourmands
i spent most of last month looking for a perfume that reminds me of lemon bars and these are the samples i got my hands on. eating lemon bars as i type this for a full immersive experience
🍋 Xerjoff Lira 🍋
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there’s no lemon listed in the notes but it smells like lemon cake with vanilla frosting
dry down lowkey reminds me of indult tihota
after the citrus fades, it becomes a bit too sweet and vanilla for my taste
(literally smells like vanilla but also vanilla in the sense that it’s pretty basic)
lasts long tho!!
smells delicious but it’s missing something
🍋 Akro Bake 🍋
Tumblr media Tumblr media
opening is lemony fresh. smells so much like pure lemon EO that it’s bordering on lemon scented cleanser
where’s the rum???? :/
akro bake: you think lira’s dry down is basic? hold my nonexistent rum
there’s a hint of that metallic sharpness from those ambroxan-adjacent synthetic woody ambers that i’m so fracking tired of
i feel like i’m dragging this perfume too much but it’s actually a nice scent
it’s just that it falls flat compared to the others on this list
🍋 Kerosene Unknown Pleasures 🍋
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh my goddd????
toasty edged-lemon bars with a bite of ginger
+ caramel custard that also kinda smells like heated condensed milk
served with earl grey tea on the side
lira: who are you?
unknown pleasures: i’m kinda like you but i’m so much better
longevity isn’t as good as lira’s but idc idc
i like that the projection doesn’t punch me in the face
🍋 Dolce & Gabbana Devotion 🍋
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the least “foody” scent on this list
joins akro bake at the nonexistent rum table
remember when i said akro bake’s lemon was toeing the line between lemon EO and lemon cleanser? this one crossed the line
the lemon fades after a while and all that’s left is a floral vanilla
smells nice when i get whiffs of it from a distance
if the others on this list were trying to replicate the scent of a lemon pastry, devotion is the stylized rendition of one
i think i’d like this more if i weren’t so averse to white florals
FINAL RANKING:
Kerosene Unknown Pleasures
Xerjoff Lira
Akro Bake
D&G Devotion

Mamluk (parfum) Oud Stars Xerjoff
Woody amber
Sensual, intoxicating and irresistibly seductive, Mamluk by Xerjoff is a rare and precious journey through the Far East.
Deep and resinous in spirit, top notes of rich honey and caramel accord captivate and enchant while heart notes of jasmine, osmnathus and Loastian benzoin hint at floral aromatics with oriental charm.
An enticing base of Madagascan vanilla, Laotian oud and amber set the senses alight, as the luxuriant scent reveals itself on the skin.
Top notes: Italian bergamot, Honey, Caramel Heart notes: Osmanthus, Laotian benzoin, Jasmine Base notes: Laotian oud, Buaya, Amber, Madagascar vanilla

Xerjoff Richwood
Tumblr media
notes: tangerine, bergamot, grapefruit; damask rose, blackcurrant; patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla, labdanum, musk
Richwood starts with booze and juicy fruit. And by fruit we mean FRUIT. It smells like Hawaiian Punch.
Half an hour in I notice that it’s drifted into a powdery, dusty, sweet-ish rose. This part is lovely. it’s almost stiflingly thick, but I don’t mind too much.
Three hours in, the rose has faded and we’re in a milky, sweetened tan woody zone — maybe an abstract “patchouli”.
Richwood is basically a sweet, dense, milky, allegedly “sandalwood-y” rose, of the same type as Amouage Guidance. Very feminine, very indulgent.
I liked Guidance better, thanks to a delicate almond note and what I remember as more textural complexity.
Richwood is strong, rather crude, and borderline tacky. (and no, it’s not a realistic sandalwood, or worth $630 for 100 mL.)

Technically Xerjoff but actually Casamorati:
1888 by Xerjoff - I actually liked this one the most out the brand - it's sweet and slightly pastry-like spicy, but not tooth-rotting and has nicely balancing sourness (I'm not sure - from some of the flowers or from sandalwood at the bottom). Very enjoyable.
Bouquet Ideale by Xerjoff - I actually thought I was going to like that one more, but no - it's somewhat similar to the previous one - but this is somehow a bit too vanilla heavy. Still good though.
Dolce Amalfi by Xerjoff - I still don't know what quince is but it does add pleasant fruitiness and sourness to this one and makes it quite interesting. It has pretty noticeable cloves and balsamicness (balsamness?). Liked it about the same as the first one.
Gran Ballo by Xerjoff - actually noticeable start that didn't skip my nose - citruses and sour berries - and then it's pretty vague white flowers and a lot of added sweetness. It's okay.
Italica by Xerjoff - added points for realness, minus points for making me sick. I'm mostly joking, but I was afraid that at some point when perfume says "milk" it wouldn't be just vaguely lactonic and creamy but would actually smell like boiling milk, which makes me a little nauseous, and that's exactly the case here - warm milk with added caramel. Not my thing - but if you're looking for something like that I would recommend it.
Lira by Xerjoff - this is one of the more popular ones from this brand (I think?) but it didn't especially impress me - bright citruses at the start but then it's mostly just basic caramel.
Mefisto by Xerjoff - the least sweet one of all and maybe on the contrast one of the more pleasant as well - sour citruses and a lot of powdery flowers - fresh and pretty light. From my impression (and comparisons on fragrantica...) it's not awfully original though.
Tiger's Nest by Memo Paris - now that's definitely something. Wow. I've already tested this one and decided to try it one myself and it didn't disappoint. On me it opened up a little sweeter and I can agree with the comparisons to Ambre Sultan a bit more (at least from I can tell without actually trying the damn thing), but it still smells for me like a slightly damp old wooden house with a long unfired furnace. I want at least decant, please, is that so much to ask for?
