Goodbye 2023!

This year feels like it's been long and somehow gone by in a flash. The last handful of months were stressful as hell but I'm settled in the new apartment and finding my new rhythm. I'm really looking forward to 2024!

So, what the hell did I do in 2023?

I wrote over 200k in fanfics.

I started Bite to Bruise and Don't Run over on the patreon.

I published Stargazing Underground, another sci-fi romance in my growing universe.

Jouska recorded some of my audioscripts! The sci-fi story and the halloween special.

I published a short steamy story, Ruby and the Wolf, in the same universe as Bite to Bruise aka the House of Teeth Series.

I finished and edited Don't Touch My Stuff (which I should have out early next year).

I outlined so many more projects...

2023 in review

Or, one fic from each month that I feel pretty good about. Most of these are smut, pls read the tags in each case, etc.

January: for my own gain i pray, Erebus seducing Lorgar and accidentally really getting into it. I will never stop using 16 Horsepower lyrics for Word Bearer fic.

February: First (Do No Harm), the one where Talos acquires Elver when Curze discards him. A story about how after that much torture, just plain impersonal use feels like a huge relief.

March: Burn the House Right Down, Sevatar/Rushal missionfic and Sev heartmarking at his violent Raven. There were a lot of things I liked in March, this one was hard to pick.

April: To Carry What We Hold, Perturabo/Fulgrim slight canon divergence during Angel Exterminatus, with oviposition. This ship is such fertile (heh) ground and every time I write them I get to explore something different.

May: the only hope for me, actually not smut, Khârn prevents Argel Tal's death (and I threw in another canon divergence just for fun). May was a slow month but good stuff I think.

June: Rationally, Cautiously, and with Restraint, combo breaker, Marek Grimaldus and Andrej Valatok versus daemon sex pollen. Andrej's voice was so much fun.

July: Commit and Advance, Fulgrim/Perturabo again only this time significantly pre-Heresy, a sweet getting-together AU. Connecting regarding art and the pursuit of perfection <3

August: Trinkets for the Tallyman, Nurgling adventure gen set on the Solace, the Lords of Silence ship. I love nurglings.

September: Every Fire and Every Thrill, Fulgrim/Horus in the early chapters of Vengeful Spirit, me having a lot of feelings about them having a lot of feelings, and also snake porn.

October: burn like a healing hand, Abaddon/Amurael for launchtheship on DW. I wanted there to be about 200% more story to this but here we are. That's the story of so many fics. At least this got to be about Cthonia and savage warband honor and how dreamy Abaddon is.

November: lay my hands on heaven, Burias-Drak'shal/Daemonette, absolutely self-indulgent PWP, the most completely self-indulgent thing I wrote all year: getting one of my favorite murderpuppies laid by a cute little monster.

December: From Faith Cometh Honor, the incident mentioned in Gate of Bones where Kar-Gatharr pulled a gravely wounded Torvann Lokk from a ruined tank on Isstvan V. The stoic and determined character getting help from someone who loves them is such catnip for me.

You know? Overall, not a bad year, when I look it over now. Expect more things I personally find iddy in 2024.

2023 Writing Wrap Up

Jesus Christ is it that time already? Okay. Lord. Well, once again I made life harder for myself by not doing a wrap up half way through the year. Oh well!

Fics published: 12

[Last year: 28]

That's not as many, obviously. But that's still like, one a month. And two of them were multi-chapters (a two parter and a five parter). I did work out how many words I published this year though - 78,084 words. This is obviously less, but I did pubish Call Me Babe For The Weekend last year so ! (I have gone back on the last two years and edited this in too - the amount of published words that is.)

Words written: 347,811 words.

[Last year: 391,283 words.] Hmmm. Not too bad I think. Not more than last year, but not too far off, so I'll take it. I'm happy with that. The lowest month was January, with like 150 words shy of 20k - but January last year sucked - I had that back problem for almost the whole month so that was rotten. But every other month has a count of 20k or more. 50k in November, obviously. But.

I have not missed a single writing goal at ALL this year. Not a regular count (500 a day), not a Camp NaNo count (700 a day in April and 800 a day in July), NOR November's NaNoWriMo (1,667 a day). I might not have "beaten" last year's numbers, but in regards to words written at least, I've kept pretty close. And keeping up with those goals is important to me. So you know what? I'll take it.

My 2023 Writing Wrap Up

Stole this idea from Lovova lmao. Let’s see if I can figure out what I’ve been writing this year. I mean, we all know what I’ve been writing but let’s just see it in words:

January

Starting the year strong by not really doing much. Might have been dabbling with some OCs but nothing too notable.

February

Uploaded the start of a fic version of my play-by-post Danganronpa AU Despair’s Legacy to my brand new AO3 account before promptly leaving it to rot. Also uploaded the first chapter of a silly little Oumota fic that I wrote for funsies. This is the start of the Just the Two of Us brainrot. To prove it, I then proceeded to write and upload five more chapters.

Addendum: Completely forgot that the first fic I ever uploaded to my AO3 this month was my Ishimaru/reader smut I wrote like six years ago lmaoooo gotta remember your roots

March

Went cazy and uploaded six more chapters of Just the Two of Us. I was officially obsessed.

Also started doing some initial planning for my other two danganhorror fics.

April

Brain started exploding so I only uploaded three Just the Two of Us chapters this month. Also wrote the side smut story for it, Defragmentation, over the Easter weekend.

May

Started the far more sustainable action of writing only one chapter of Just the Two of Us a month. Also started planning the Moulin Rouge Oumota au that I never finished - sad!

June

Began planning for Oumota Week 2023. Wrote a small sci-fi/horror fic called Facsimile for a Kaito/Maki writing week. Published another two chapters of Just the Two of Us.

July

Through some unholy will I published seven seperate short fics for Oumota week ranging from a mermaid au to a silly family au and a short Haiku poem based on the origin of the Tanabata festival. Somehow published another chapter of Just the Two of Us as well.

August

Wrote my official oneshot smut for Oumota as part of the package deal which I’m doing for each of my main danganhorror fics. Also managed to complete another chapter of the Just the Two of Us. Also started writing REDACTED.

September

Another chapter of Just the Two of Us successfully uploaded!

October

The final chapter of Just the Two of Us is uploaded and I finally allowed myself to rest for like a week or two before going back to the grind.

November

Ceremoniously failed to work on an original junior/YA story for NaNoWriMo and just like start working on my next Danganhorror fic Every Day is Exactly the Same.

December

Uploaded the first chapter of my next Danganhorror fic aka the one where Yasuhiro ends up in a time loop. Got nasty bad Togakure brainrot and proceeded to spend most of the month jumping between the main fic and the smut one shot.

Aaaaand that’s a wrap up! It’s been a very very productive year and although it’s almost all been fic stuff I’ve never been more proud of myself. I started and finished a 140,000 word fic and also wrote almost a dozen short fics on the side too.

I can’t wait to see what this new year will bring! I’m definitely not going to go too hard and burn out but I hope I’ll still be productive! My biggest goal will be to finish Every Day is Exactly the Same and hopefully start a new non-fic project too.

I HAVE SO MANY!!! First of all, last year (2023) i continued my studies at the university by working as an internship. I started living alone abroad. I'm about to buy my first car (I'm most excited about this). I traveled cross-country by myself for New Year's Eve. I participated in the full marathon this summer and even though I didn't do well, it was a lot of fun. This year I'm writing a fanzine for my school and its subject is about movies and philosophy. I AM MAKING MY FIRST SHORT FILM MYSELF!!! I have a lot of scripts (written by myself) that we are planning to shoot with my friends.

2023 was good and now i hope 2024 is even better.

Glory  ★★★★★ - This one should be coming with all kinds of trigger warnings. It's a revenge drama about a girl who was brutally mutilated via school violence. If you, like me, love a good FAFO story give this a go. If you're even mildly squeamish, maybe don't.

Go Ahead ★★★★★ Go Ahead is... an acquired taste. It's found family, and it's coming of age, and it's love triangle and it's breathtaking beautiful. It examines different family dynamics and what it means to choose your family and what it means when your family doesn't choose you. All of that said... it is also a little bit about dating your step brother, and I know, okay, I KNOW, but if you just trust me on this, it's only a tiny bit weird and then it's not, and you're rooting for these maybe a little bit incestuous but not really, idiots.

Be My Favorite  ★★★★★ This thai BL is not your typical coming of age, falling in love, enemies to lovers, story. Instead we have time travel, and the butterfly effect of the consequences of our actions. Gotta be honest, I'm a total ho for sci-fi tropes and this was done well enough that it rocketed into a favorites of 2023 spot before it was half finished.

Hidden Love  ★★★★★ Come cancel me, Tumblr, I'm ready because one of my absolute favorite tropes is the *dun dun dun* age gap! In this drama a young girl falls hard for her older brother's best friend, and you get to watch as their relationship changes and grows as they mature. There is no hanky panky or even interest in our female lead before she comes of age but if you're a puri-teen steer clear, you won't have a fun time. My favorite part of this drama was actually the relationship between siblings, which felt much more authentic than many portrayals I've come across.

My Beautiful Man S2 ★★★★★ The second installment in this series delivers! There's angst, there's humor, there's *eyebrow waggles*. I'm a tiny bit obsessed with Hira and I can't wait for more!

My Personal Weatherman ★★★★★ Miscommunication, or as I call it, idiot plot, is the best. I know some people hate a storyline that could be resolved with less than 5 minutes of open communication between the romantic leads, but not me. Let these idiots stew in their misconceptions, let them leap tall buildings in a single misguided assumption. GIVE IT TO ME. Anyway, if you don't like that, don't watch this, but if you do, it's crack.

My School President  ★★★★★ GeminiFourth stole my heart in this cute coming of age story. It hit all the right notes, with the added bonus of Fourth! I will say normally I hate when they shoehorn music into Thai dramas (so that the stars can go on tour?) but it fit well with the plot and the soundtrack is amazing. They can be my only exception.

2023 wrap up.

January: Ok. Found out I was going to Washington DC in the spring.

February: Can't remember. I think ok.

March: In between. Birthday and turned a big milestone. Had a breakdown toward the end.

April: Very good!! Went to DC and had a blast!

May: Pretty good. Found out about the Naturals and loved it. Worked in my garden.

June: Eh, ok. Can't remember much.

July: Horrible. Finished school. Depression kicked in big time.

August. Hell, then heaven. Depression almost ruined me. Got a job though and things were much better. Also got TBH. And joined Tumblr!!

September: Good. Job was doing great. Made friends on Tumblr.

October: Uh, ok? Cut my finger on the slicer at work. Found out my best friends I have ever had in real life were moving away from me. BUT.. I did start expanding at work, and on Tumblr. Also the time my friendship with @riddles-n-games began to flourish.

November: Eh, good? Got my leadership role at work. Began to grow there. Thanksgiving was ok.

December: Not great. Family issues and struggles. Overworked from working so much. Stress of the holidays.

Overall rating: 6/10. Last year was a whole lot worse, so I can't complain to much.

2022 Writing Wrap Up

Well I made this harder for myself this year - last year I did two wrap ups. One for the half way point, and one at the end of the year. I didn’t do that this year for some reason. I’m not going to do a rambly break down of each month, in this wrap up post because... I did that every month anyway. And I’m not gonna talk about all the WIPs I have on the go right now because, I’m just not that prepared to be honest with you. Okay. Right.

Fics published: 28

Basically, if you look at my Masterlist, it’s everything from You Are My Favourite “What If?” right the way down to the OTPtober Masterlist - and there’s 10 on that list. That’s over half my Masterlist. Jesus Christ. April was obviously my most publishable month - but that’s because I gave you all a chapter a day of Call Me Babe For The Weekend.

Words written: 391,283 words.

This is about 100k ish more than last year - even though last year’s count was only from April. My lowest months were September (but I had that wound on my thigh that meant I couldn’t sit for too long so that’s to be expected) and December (also expected, it’s been a really rough month). But even then, there hasn’t been a single month where I’ve written less than 20k, and I haven’t missed my 500 words a day target at all. I missed my 700 word target in April for Camp NaNoWriMo three times, but didn’t miss my daily target - the 500 words. I didn’t miss anything for July’s Camp and I didn’t miss my targets for NaNoWriMo in November either. I count this as a win, personally. Time to rinse and repeat! Edit: 30/12/2023 - if I’ve done my maths right, I published 294,255 words this year.
