Yuuhi Amamiya, the Lizard Knight. This one is really just for me. Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer is without a doubt my favorite manga (bad anime adaptation aside), and I wanted to do something before I start my annual reread.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer (anime)---Episode 1

I'm going to spoil everything. You have been warned.

I'm watching the sub, btw. In case anyone cares.

So I'm not going into this blind. I read the manga awhile back and more and less remember all the plot beats.

Basic synopsis: Yuuhi Amamiya meets a talking lizard and learns he'd been chosen as one of the twelve “Beast Knights” destined to help a princess save the Earth from an evil mage who wants to smash the planet with a giant hammer.

PLOT TWIST: The girl hosting the princess's spirit, Samidare Asahina, only wants to save the Earth so she can destroy it herself!

Yuuhi is totally on board with this.

Yuuhi is kind of an asshole.

NGL, the first 2/3 of this episode is kinda meh. We mostly just follow Yuuhi throughout his day while he tries to get Noi (the talking lizard) to leave him alone.

(as an aside: I like Noi. Poor guys trying so hard to be noble and serious, and Yuuhi is having none of it.)

Yuuhi and Noi are attacked by a golem, creations of the mage. It's a weird, one-eyed, fish-like monster. Apparently it's called Gamelion, which I didn't know until looking it up.

Anyway, Yuuhi is pathetic and can't fight to save his life (literally) so Samidare jumps in and kills it.

Being the princess's vessel gives her super strength, so that's cool.

Our two leads talk, Samidare throws herself off the roof so Yuuhi will save her/prove his loyalty (like you do), she tells him her plan, and he's immediately “At your service, your Majesty!”

So there we go, the adventure is underway.

Eh, not much else to say. The art/animation is nice. Nothing mind-blowing, but good. Same for the OP. I do actually like the song. It's catchy.

Anyway, on to episode 2!

Yuuhi’s pose in chapter 46 (right pic) was literally such a heartwarming callback to Hangetsu in chapter 9 (left pic). Yuuhi finally gets to feel like a hero to the younger generation. He is finally being an adult they can admire, and (whether or not he’s doing it consciously) he’s emulating the first adult to truly impact him in a positive way. In all the ways that Hangetsu is framed as Yuuhi’s mentor, I love this one the most because it’s just so sweet.

Turns out I technically should be familiar to Ezet's voice actor.The roles I sort of recognized him for include Shimoda(Heaven's Design Team),Yuuhi Amamiya(Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer),and Ray White(Iceblade Sorcerer).

Oof.

Can that just be the review? No? Sigh, okay then.

I feel like longtime fans of Satoshi Mizukami can’t catch a break. His works — despite being critically acclaimed — have never been adapted in anime form, with the 2005-2010 manga series Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammerconsidered his magnum opus. To have to wait a dozen years for an anime to be made of it must’ve been torture for the fans. But considering its complex narrative, Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer should be carefully brought to life in animation form.

So with all this time passed and the anime version green-lit, what could possibly go wrong? Well, how about the fact that the producers hired the animation studio responsible for — as of this writing — the worst anime that I’ve ever seen?! And just like that, any hype I had for Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer faded into the darkness, never to be seen again.

The story of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer follows Yuuhi Amamiya (Junya Enoki), who wakes up one morning to the sight of a talking lizard. Named Noi (Kenjiro Tsuda), he tells Yuuhi that he’s been chosen as a Beast Knight, one destined to help a Princess save the world from being destroyed. The enemy is a mysterious mage, and the weapon of destruction is a massive mallet floating in space known as the Biscuit Hammer. As for the Princess, that title is bestowed upon his childhood friend Samidare Asahina (Naomi Ozora), who aims to save the world so she can destroy it herself.

Together, Yuuhi and Samidare train for the big fight, fighting golem after golem that pops up to keep the heroes at bay. Fortunately, there are other Beast Knights that aid in the fight, with their own talking familiar such as a horse, snake, and swordfish. As the rest of the team suits up for the ultimate battle, only Yuuhi knows of Samidare’s true intentions, as her wicked thought might trigger the others to stop her plan.

“Hoshi no Samidare” The Unveils Supporting Cast Members

The Hoshi no Samidare (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer) television anime's supporting cast and first key visual (shown) were introduced at a large presentation event. In July 2022, the anime adaptation of Satoshi Mizukami's adventure comedy manga will premiere on MBS and TBS' Animeism programming block.

So I added Hoshi no Samidare on the list of anime series that I am currently watching. Some people might actually find the plot a bit dumb but I find it interesting (please don’t mind my weird sense and taste, I’m the type of person who can find the most boring anime interesting and would still watch it despite the low ratings from other people). The start of the episode was kinda funny too.

I find Amamiya’s character interesting too. Not the typical goody two shoes main character who will accept trying to save the world because he was told to do so. But well, I guess in this case, it’s kinda understandable how he reacted when a lizard suddenly appeared in his room and tells him to save the world. 

I was also laughing most of the time with Crezant Noi and Amamiya’s exchange. 

Amamiya’s seiyuu is Enoki Junya while Crezant Noi’s seiyuu is Tsuda Ken. Kinda rings a bell, right? Itadori and Nanamin! But with the roles kinda reversed? Also, hearing Tsuda Ken’s comedic voice is kinda pleasing to the ears so that’s another reason to watch this series.  (*¯ ³¯*)♡
