Hi friends! We have a couple of updates to share.
Firstly, Seraj needs more than $3,300 to pull off his final Ramadan project before Eid. He wants to distribute it on the last day of Ramadan, which is in 3 days, so we need to get to $20k ASAP!
contribute at bit.ly/serajfund
The financial situation in Rah Fah continues to decline, with intermediaries taking a 15-17% cut when people get cash out. He is so hopeful that this project will work out! Helping others and bringing smiles to faces–especially those of children–is clearly one of Seraj’s passions.
Here are the project details, all thought up by Seraj himself. He has amazing ideas! 125-130 cash envelopes containing either 50 or 100 shekels each. Seraj will distribute them based on how large each family is. Seraj will also make 40 envelopes for kids, each containing 20 shekels.
Currently, Seraj’s plan is to distribute his envelopes on the last day of Ramadan, before Eid al-Fitr. Last time he tried to print something, the printer had no electricity. He has a plan this time for checking in early to make sure he has a chance to print.
Working with Seraj on his mutual aid projects has been such a tangible reminder that we reject the notion of charity (which is very rooted in the white savior complex and pity of Black and Brown folx), and even allyship (not enough action)  instead are partners and collaborators with Seraj self directing, leading us, and constantly motivating us to to get to the next goal so he can achieve his vision!
Because Seraj and his family have managed to survive, he’s been able to give back. No NGOs or governments, just a 21-year-old young man helping as many of his neighbors as he can. In his words, “This is my duty, sisters, as long as I can help! Why don't I do that!”
Seraj is genuinely a superstar to everyone on our team. His generosity is humbling to us. We have so much to learn from Pale-eh -steinians.
Secondly, we have a date for our upcoming virtual dance party! Mark your calendars for Monday, April 29th in the evening (Pacific time). Sky is hosting this event to hype up our virtual auction for Seraj. Follow Sky on Instagram for more details @rebirthgarments or @radicalvisibilitycollective
If you’d still like to contribute items to the auction, go to bit.ly/fundraiserforseraj ! Seraj’s Support Soirée would like to offer an item or service for every budget. And we encourage a wide variety of dough-nation types! While many of them will be creative objects, they do not have to be.
Some examples:
a book you love or wrote
a framed photograph
a massage (local area bidders only)
a meditation session
a piñata
a tarot reading
a t-shirt you love or designed
stickers
a virtual lesson on social media marketing
visual art
a virtual dance lesson
Your items will be listed this week on Give Butter! (stay tuned for details!)
Our support soiree dance party will hype up the auction featuring selections from the archives of Rebirth Garments fashion performances while you can dance with Sky!
Thank you so much for being here for Seraj. He and his family are so deeply grateful for all of the ways folks have supported them and partnered with them to help others. And our team is so thankful for how you all have stepped up. Please share and contribute!
-Written by my team member Bex with additions by me!
[image Description: a flyer featuring a photo by Seraj of a small little kid with a blue plastic bag full of fresh fruits and vegetables. The kiddo has a heart emoji over their face and is smiling really big. They are wearing a red shirt that says “sleep time” with a sleeping bear on it. They are standing on a sandy ground in front of a tent. Text to the right of the photo on a red background reads: Gaza Sky Seraj’s mutual aid project for Ramadan in Rah-fah For part 2 of Seraj’s Ramadan project, he gave out 32 food parcels for 32 families around him in the displacement camps. Send support to his family + others! bit.ly/serajfund “ Underneath is a QR code with the link. ]

Advantages of custom t-shirts for a business
Today it has become easy to get Personalised wall art and even t-shirts printed. For years, customized t-shirts have been used by companies to help in their marketing and branding. These t-shirts can be given out to employees, and even loyal customers. Businesses, NGOs, organizations focused on community initiatives, and more, employ the power of Customized t-shirt printing and use the branding benefits of these t-shirts to their advantage. You can design t-shirts with your brand logo and name, and easily get them printed through any prominent provider of print-on-demand services.
Gifting custom t-shirts to the loyal customers of your brand can be a great way to make them feel recognized and special. Humans are known to thrive on personal connections. In this situation, even something as simple as a custom t-shirt can be helpful in establishing the feeling of being a part of something big. You can even use custom t-shirts as free giveaway products. After all, everyone loves free stuff. You may use custom T-shirts to drum up interest by getting the in-store customers and social media followers of your brand to take part in a giveaway contest. For example, you could run a campaign in which participants must buy your newly launched product to enter a contest and have a chance to win a custom T-shirt. This can be a great way to magnetize the interest of your customers.
There are many brands today that offer t-shirt printing services. Even the Best Dropshipping Suppliers offer such solutions.

The story behind the New Logo of Myntra
Tumblr media
Myntra which is the worldwide renowned e-commerce website recently has changed its logo. Why? Because a Mumbai-based activist lodged a complaint a few weeks back against Myntra with the state cyber police. She alleged the e-commerce site of using the signage being insulting and very offensive towards women. According to her, such offensiveness and insult cannot be tolerated and even should not be tolerated by anyone as the old logo of the company resembled a naked woman who is lying down with legs wide open.
However, a woman named Naaz Patel lodged this complaint. She is reportedly the founder of an NGO which is known as Avesta Foundation. She filed the complaint in the month of December last year where she demanded the removal of the logo and also called for some actions to be taken against the company.
Cyber-crime department of Mumbai Police later informed the Myntra about this complaint by sending an email. The Flipkart backed e-commerce giant responded to the complaint by saying that it will anyhow change its logo within a time period of one month and even it has changed it within the time as well.
The company has recently unveiled its new logo where the overlapping of colours has been changed. It even started the process of replacing the old signage on all platforms way before even unveiling the new logo. This new logo will replace the old one on both the platforms of the website as well as an app. Myntra even issued printing orders for putting their new logo on packaging materials, as per reports.
“We found that the logo was offensive in nature for women. Following the complaint, we sent an email to Myntra and their officials came and met us. The officials said they will change the logo in a month’s time,” said DCP Rashmi Karandikar of Cyber Crime Department of Mumbai police in an interview.
Myntra is an Indian fashion e-commerce company having its headquarters in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The company was found by Mukesh Bansal along with Ashutosh Lawania and Vineet Saxena in the year 2007. Initially, Myntra used to sell personalised gift items on demand. During those years, it adopted and mainly operated all its functions on the B2B (business-to-business) model. The site allowed its customers between the time period of 2007 and 2010 to personalise a variety of products such as T-shirts, mugs, mousepads, and others.
Myntra started selling numerous fashion and lifestyle products in 2011 and also chose to move away from personalisation. And by 2012 Myntra started offering products from different 350 Indian and International brands including some big brands having a great reputation. The website initially started launching brands like Fastrack Watches and Being Human.
During its progressing days, a time period came when Flipkart acquired Myntra in the year 2014. The deal was really huge and valued at ₹2,000 crores (US$280 million). The company later managed to acquire fashion e-retailer Jabong in the year 2016. Then the company became unstoppable and grown to become one of the biggest online fashion websites in the country.

“Writing for Building” a project by Joanne Bristol at M:ST Festival, 2018
Just as Emma-Kate says “dad,” a huge chunk of snow breaks across the right half of my skull. Those Calgary BEWARE OF FALLING SNOW AND ICE signs are no joke but offer no help. We chortle and are still excitedly slicing into each other’s words when we enter CommunityWise Resource Centre. The threshold to the room is a soft membrane and on the other side live the quiet focused feelings of a library without a librarian. It’s clear to me that I have entered the work. There are two tables, chairs, papers and writing utensils, and the things that live in the space, it’s not too precious. There is a microphone in a stand at one end, empty and blinking. Joanne sees us and greets. She’s wearing a t-shirt printed with the same text as on the signs around. It says:
WRITING FOR BUILDING
write and share a text addressed to the building
your text could be a political manifesto, or a love letter, or a useful question, or...
your text could be read aloud, or placed within the building, or...
I like it. Especially the “, or...”s.
I sit down to write. People are softly focused but sometimes someone is loud and that is okay also. It is not facist feeling. Joanne encourages us to be wherever we’d like in the space. I feel sky and scuttle onto an arm chair away from the other bodies. Someone starts reading into the microphone. It’s beautiful. Each person who reads, writes in their own way. Some instead/also fold up their papers and tuck them away into the building which Joanne has described as “quite porous” and with many places to leave a letter to it. And I begin to hear intimate letters to the building. I learn about its holding of feminist organizations, how it was a landing spot for “mail order brides” so that they didn’t land directly into their new husband’s home (I feel weird about the term “mail order brides” so decide to listen more closely and see what I can learn). The building was apparently somewhat-squatted by NGOs and now those same orgs have the space.
I start writing my letter
:
It would be, I think, rude to address you without first attending to you over time and with heart. So instead, This Building, as a visitor (which you are too to these lands), I’ll tell you of the place I know best. I’ll read to you my love letter to another building, hoping that offering some of me to you is more generous:
My ribs are the building that stays, but they learned that from you.
In them, nested and fluttering, are too many bedrooms and roommates to count. Learning the word DECAPITATION with a soft butch on a water bed at 3; learning about okra in south-west Florida at 12, during the Bush-Gore election when another butch—harder this time—taught me that I couldn’t believe in reincarnation and go to church. (I hate okra.); seeking the quietest kid in the school yard to befriend has turned into seeking the grumpiest art lady writer with glasses to date but it’s the same thing. Still there. We change but not much.
My ribs learned about holding play: create it, world it, sparkling light through glass. These white bones learned your way of holding grief, her face blue and ear lobes swollen from pooled liquids.
You taught my ribs secreting (as in to produce and discharge a liquid) which is spelled the same as secreting (as in the verb of “to keep a secret”) and, not caring, my rib buildings take them as one act.
And though I still wake up in a different place each week, I know the thatch of my iraqi-thick hair that I tied to the branch out back, that I embed with czech magic passed on through the women in my family, that the tree imbibed and grew over, ties me to you.
So that once Grandma—my godsend—dies and I am left alone, I will be rooted through and into the grounds where you stood, blue and warm. __

GQ Apparel presents GQ Limited Distance Edition | GQWhite™ mask
Tumblr media
GQ Limited Distance Edition: A collection to fight COVID-19 with more accurate physical distancing. According to the "physical distancing” concept by the World Health Organization (WHO), GQ Apparel and Rabbit Digital Group designed GQ Limited Distance Edition Collection to encourage people to maintain a two meters distance from one another. The collection includes a t-shirt and GQWhite™ mask printed with a special message that is readable under two meters to warns those who can read it to move further until they cannot. Translated into four languages, the letter size has been certified as visible within two meters for average eyesight by The Association of Thai Optometrists. Besides the optical signal warning, the GQWhite™ Mask can also protect wearers with seven protective features: liquid-repellent technology, antibacterial 99.9% interior, and custom-fit adjustable strap. Moreover, to remind the wearer to keep themselves safe from COVID-19, the T-shirt label also comes with care instruction on how to stay safe from the virus. Together with the intention of the design to prevent the virus from spreading, the collection also aims to help to reinforce the medical support as all proceeds from the group will be donated to Ramathibodi Foundation to purchase respirators and medical equipment needed for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The surveillance society - Scenario outline
Some stats first (cause I like that)
--According to Pierre Galio (from the Environment and Energy Management Agency), since 2002 we have been buying 60% more clothes than we keep twice as long.
--In France alone, 600,000 tons of clothing are sold on the market and only 35% are collected and sorted, or 210,000 tons.
--It takes the equivalent of 70 showers to produce a t-shirt and up to 285 showers to produce jeans.
----------------------------------- Scenario ----------------------------------------
Since we know the industries have not changed their economic system, it is time to organise their systems differently. While they have been making money without really considering the climate emergency, it is time we take decisions for them. They will have to make profit considering the new laws and people will have to wean themselves off their consumption needs.
///The UN voted new laws about textile industry :
How to lengthen the life of the clothes? How to fight cultural obsolescence into fashion? How to be more sustainable? How to decrease environmental impact of clothes?
NGOs have put a high pressure on governments to ban fast fashion. New laws have been voted and the mesures are drastic
About the industry:
No more fast fashion No more than 2 collections per year No more trend effect - all about intemporal (jeans, basic, etc...) No more poor quality Taxing dyeing process that harms the environment (using chemicals)  Producing as localy as possible Promote natural dying fibers over synthetic
About the people:
The control of your clothes is now mandatory. The new clothes arriving on the market have a code you cannot remove. Every clothe belong to a customer. You can only buy a certain amount of clothes per year. If you want more, you pay an extra tax that will help people with lower incomes to dress up.
It forces you to make conscious choices before your purchase.
How will the governements control?
Every clothe has a code/RFID or NFC sensor. Once you buy it, the clothe belong to you and only you. You decide to give it to someone else, a charity or wathever but you can’t throw it away. Every clothes must have an owner.
When you buy a clothe, there is a bail on it. You must follow the rules of the store/UE in order to get your deposit back. The more complex the cloth, the more it will be taxed. Taxes are used for clothes with too many componants that make them to difficult to recycle.
The compagnies are now in charge of the recycling process of their own clothes. Circular economy became the standard. When you bring back your clothes, you will get your deposit. If you give your clothes to your friend, you muust register the transaction in the system to get your deposit from your friend.
Your clothes have to be washed according to the rules, (temperature, soap, fabric softener, dryer). Thanks to the RFID, the washing machine and the dryer know what is inside. The old washing machine and dryers have been adapted with scanners to be able to control.
What impact could that create?
Companies will start producing different types of clothes. More minimalist, not damaged, less color process.
What is interresting to see is how people will start wearing the cheap clothes, how people will reappropiate the standard designs.
An exemple with a sustaible t-shirt :
Raw color of the material would cost 15eu White, grey or black (colored with coal) would cost 20eu Orange, red, yellow would cost 25eu Different parts assembled would cost 30eu With logo/prints on it would cost 35eu
--These taxes can be considered the same for gasoline in our cars today --
The more difficult it is, the more you pay for the recycling process.
I believe expensive clothes will continue. There is a market and a demand. These people can afford extra taxes if they want to.
People might start creating their own design on the white canvas they bought for cheap to become more personnal if they cannot afford it.
The poorest will only wear the basic clothes.

Gord Hill, Indigenous Artist and Anarchist: An Interview
Gord Hill is an anarchist artist and a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw nation who has been active in anticolonial and anticapitalist struggles for decades. Over the years, his art and criticism have been an inspiration and challenge to us. Gord is the author of two comic books, The 500 Years of Resistance Comic Book, The Anti-Capitalist Resistance Comic Book, as well as 500 Years of Indigenous Resistance, and runs the website Warrior Publications. He also draws and writes under the pseudonym Zig Zag.
Obviously, there have always been intersections between art and resistance, but we’d like to hear how you see those intersections for yourself, and how you see those intersections playing out in society today.
I believe art is an important part of resistance in that it contributes to an overall culture of resistance. Art inspires, educates, motivates, and helps to maintain a history of resistance as well. Today art is perhaps even more prolific in social movements due to greater access to communications technology with new forms such as memes and gifs emerging, although I find these to be more transient than traditional forms such as posters, banners, t-shirts, etc. My main focus is on graphic arts but it’s important to acknowledge the power of other media such as writing, music, etc., all of which contribute to building and maintaining a culture of resistance.
Tumblr media
Are the aesthetic choices you make in your art political in and of themselves?
In some cases yes, because I consciously use images that I hope are empowering or inspiring. I also frequently use what I would consider iconic images from a particular action or event, images that people might already be familiar with and which help add authenticity to my artwork. Or slogans on banners that help convey a message, especially with comics in which I have very limited space for text. I will also consciously use images to “normalize” militant actions, like including masked persons in an image of a rally or protest, for example.
Tumblr media
Can you talk about other artists and traditions that you draw political and aesthetic inspiration from?
Sure… some artists that have inspired me include Louis Karoniaktajeh Hall (the Mohawk artist that designed the warrior flag and wrote The Warrior’s Handbook), Art Wilson (a Gitxsan artist who used traditional Northwest Coast art to address contemporary struggles in his book of published prints entitled Heartbeat of the Earth: A First Nations Artist Records Injustice and Resistance), Joe Sacco (who did the Palestine comics), as well as more traditional Native artists including Tony Hunt (Kwakwaka’wakw) and Mark Henderson (Kwakwaka’wakw). Old school comic artists that inspired me include Jack Kirby, Alex Toth, Berni Wrightson, Alex Nino, and Frank Frazetta.
Tumblr media
Being an artist and historian, can you talk about the differences between written history and oral tradition, and how the use of imagery might interact with these methods?
Written history is useful for historians as it provides dates, names and locations, which help in understanding history chronologically. From this chronology we can see, for example, the process of colonization, or the expansion of an empire, etc. European states didn’t appear out of nowhere but were the result of a long history of colonization by the Romans and centuries of warfare between feudal kingdoms that emerged after the collapse of the Roman empire. This history, much of it recorded by observers at the time, helps us understand how the world we live in today was created. The oral history of Indigenous peoples has been portrayed as mythologies or fantasy, but we know today that events that are told as oral history are actually real events that occurred. For example, there are widespread oral histories of an earthquake and tsunami dating from the 1700s along the Northwest Coast that scientists now know actually occurred and which caused considerable destruction to many villages. The oral history of this event portrays it as resulting from the actions of spiritual forces; until scientists linked the stories to actual events, they were generally dismissed as mythology.
In regards to oral history, Indigenous people had many ways of portraying these histories through graphic arts, such as pictographs, paintings, beadwork, and carvings. Songs and dances were another way that these oral histories were remembered.
Today, there are examples of oral history that continue to be used, including poetry and hip hop. Even videos with interviews and testimonials are examples of oral history.
I find that comics are a good “middle ground” in that they combine written history with graphic images.
Tumblr media
Where do you see the intersections between indigenous struggles and anarchist struggles?
I would say they meet in opposition to the state and capital, which for Indigenous peoples would be seen as anti-colonial and anti-capitalist resistance, although the concept of anti-capitalist is perhaps weaker than that of anti-colonial… I think that’s probably the strongest intersection, but there are also concepts such as anti-authoritarian or egalitarian forms of organizing. Although this differs in degrees from one Indigenous nation to another, it is, overall, a fairly strong part of our traditional culture (with some exceptions).
Tumblr media
How do you think non-indigenous anarchists can be informed by and supportive of indigenous struggles?
By knowing the history of European colonialism and incorporating this into their analysis and actions.
Tumblr media
Which past movements have you learned the most from?
I would say definitely the ‘68 generation: the American Indian Movement/Red Power movements, the Black Panthers, as well as the 1950s-60s black civil rights struggles, the Zapatistas. I’ve also been inspired by and learned from the autonomist movements in Europe, particularly in Italy and West Germany.
Have you ever felt torn between your role as an artist and your responsibility to other forms of political resistance? If so, how have you resolved those dilemmas?
No, I’ve never felt torn between being an artist and other forms of political resistance… It’s all part of a diversity of tactics and I believe that propaganda is a vital part of resistance movements and in building cultures of resistance. I do, however, believe it’s important for people that do art, or writing or any other form of propaganda to be involved in the movement because otherwise they can be out of touch with events and current trends.
Tumblr media
You’ve talked a lot over the years about tactics in struggles. Do you find these conversations to be similar in indigenous contexts and non-indigenous struggles? Have you seen changes in these discussions over the years?
In some ways, the discussion of tactics is similar. For example, in some cases in the Indigenous movements, there is a discussion about the wearing of masks and the carrying out of illegal direct actions; there are debates around militancy, the logistics of blockades or occupations, security and counter-surveillance. I don’t think these discussions have changed over the years, since, say, the 1990 Oka Crisis, but instead they kind of emerge and then subside depending on the types of mobilizations that are occurring. One change has been discussions around internet security and the use of social media such as Facebook, which is being used quite a bit more recently by police for investigations and pressing charges.
Tumblr media
The struggle against the Dakota Access Pipeline at Standing Rock is arguably the most prominent struggle for indigenous sovereignty we’ve seen in recent times. Do you think there are important philosophical or tactical lessons to be taken from how this struggle has played out?
Yes, I would say the NoDAPL campaign was very important for a variety of reasons. While there have been a number of anti-pipeline campaigns in Canada, and in particular in BC, it was the first real struggle against a proposed pipeline to occur as construction began. In Canada, the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline was eventually abandoned after several years of Indigenous resistance. At the Unis’tot’en camp, it doesn’t appear that the proposed natural gas pipeline has attempted to build on Unis’tot’en land. So the NoDAPL campaign was the first one to actively resist construction of a pipeline.
I think especially for Natives in the US, the NoDAPL campaign was very important, and I’m sure thousands of Native youth were radicalized in some way by participating in it.

Ultimately, however, the NoDAPL campaign failed. I would suggest this occurred for a number of reasons, the primary one being that the opposition, despite some militant actions that occurred, was primarily based on “non-violent civil disobedience” and pacifist methods. Any attempts at creating a diversity of tactics were largely squashed by the NGO-type organizers that dominated the debates on tactics, combined with the lack of experience among members of the Standing Rock reservation.
In contrast, I like to point out the resistance carried out by the Mi’kmaq in New Brunswick in 2013 against exploratory work for fracking operations. They didn’t have thousands of people gather, didn’t have big name celebrities join in, and didn’t have tens of thousands of dollars at their disposal. They mobilized their community and after a brief attempt at non-violent civil disobedience, they carried out more militant actions including sabotage and road blockades. Their main blockade was cleared out by police in October 2013, which resulted in six police cars being torched; afterwards, they used more mobile tire fire blockades to disrupt the exploratory work. Eventually, the company, SWN Resources, pulled out before completing all their work, and the next year a provincial election was held that saw the pro-fracking government thrown out of power in what was seen as a plebiscite on fracking. The new government enacted a moratorium on fracking. The Mi’kmaq, even though they were much smaller in numbers than what we saw at Standing Rock, and with far less resources, were victorious.
In looking at the two campaigns, there are many lessons to be learned, and I would caution against people hoping to replicate the Standing Rock model because, ultimately, it was defeated.
