very few of you will care about this and it’s perfectly fine but if you’ve been here for a hot minute you’ll know that in like october/november last year i realized i’d damaged my OG copy of RWRB from 2019 (broke the spine and accidentally tore a couple pages) and i originally thought, no problem i can just go get one at B&N it’ll be fine.
reader: it was not fine.
story under the cut.
because now that the movie was out my options were: movie cover (which i did get because i was lost to this fandom at this point), or that stupid updated cover with the taylor jenkins reid quote on the side. i did not want that. i do not care about her thoughts on my favorite book.
so i went to amazon thinking i could buy a used copy. get one.
it’s the tjr quote copy.
try thriftbooks. isbn matches, print year matches. picture matched.
tjr quote copy.
try thriftbooks again. same parameters, different seller.
another tjr copy.
(did you know thriftbooks doesn’t take returns if the cost was $15 or less? i sure as fuck didn’t.)
at this point I’ve got like four copies of RWRB and i can return none of them. i’m just hoarding pink covers at this point. (it was easier to get the french edition than the original fucking book.) i’m heated at this point, and i give up. a solid month of looking with nothing to show for it.
and then.
someone i follow on insta mentions they’re selling books on their pango account, and the gods are shining down on me because there, in beautiful technicolor, is a pristine copy of the original cover. i’ve never created an account and purchased something so fast in my life. I spend all weekend crossing my fingers, hoping i’m not about to get fucked by online book purchasing for a fifth time.
i just opened my mail and —
Tumblr media
she’s perfect. i can rest now.

Chills 🙌
Before the match between New Zealand and France, there was a detail that attracted attention, in addition to the traditional “Haka” Māori performed by the national team before the matches: Aaron Smith was brandishing a carved and inlaid wooden object: is a “dancing oar” reserved for the leader. It is a symbol of power that refers to the person who leads a canoe and, in a more metaphorical sense, to a group of people who are with him on the vessel and depend on him and Smith leads the “Kapa O Pango” version of the All Blacks Haka.
Tumblr media
When All Blacks scrum-half Aaron Smith called his teammates around him, the Stade de France crowd had already understood what would happen, the spectators witnessed the iconic choreography of the New Zealand national rugby team. In 2005, the All Blacks were gifted an original haka, called “Kapa o Pango”, which translates as “Team in Black”. Kapa o Pango embodies the history, legacy, and mana of the All Blacks 🏉

AWOOGAA 🚨 AWOOOOGGGAAA THIS POST RECEIVES UPDATES NOTIFIED IN DD/MM/YY FORMAT!!
UPDATE 1: 08/06/23 (removed OVPN, added AirVPN and IVPN)
it's REPO time again !! no GUIDES today, just a list of good VPNs, some ones to avoid (and why), and also what the hell is a vpn anyway ? i'll endeavour to keep this post updated, and will also include a link to an external archive REPO here when i get round to it. the same archive REPO will eventually be included among my INFOCACHEs okay, let's go !
VPNs, what are they good for?
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network - in simple terms it lets a user pretend their device is in another location or part of another network. businesses and universities use this to allow employees/students to access services from offsite. the rest of us use VPNs for privacy (and to bypass region locks). a privacy-focused VPN, in its most basic form, has an entry point and an exit point. the service creates an encrypted 'tunnel' between the user's device and the entry point, and the VPN sends this encrypted data to the exit point, where it decrypts. the data then appears to have originated at the exit point. this is great if you're in an area with heavy restrictions on internet use, are on an insecure/untrusted network (eg café wifi), or simply wish to stop your ISP and government from spying on your comings and goings. i'm not here to discuss legal, ethical, or moral matters, and i am well aware of the differences between the three; as such, i shall not ask nor judge to what end the information provided here is used.
remember: a VPN doesn't make you invincible
VPN recommendations
consider this an incomplete list of VPN options that pass my criteria:
ProtonVPN (1,2,3?,4,5,6,7?,9 - only on windows version)
Mullvad (1,2?,4,5,6,7,8 - payment; no username)
AirVPN (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9)
IVPN (1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9)
said criteria:
evidence of no-logging policy
RAMdisk
physical security measures (locked server cabinets etc.)
reasonably fast
reasonable amount of locations
supports OpenVPN and/or WireGuard
transparency
privacy-focused access (eg alternative payment methods, no required email/username/ID, alternative payment models)
port forwarding
on the fence
i'd appreciate any extra info about these re: my criteria above
RiseupVPN (appears to be activist-focused ! and principled)
DO NOT USE !!!!
these VPNs have been known to collect user data, have bad security practices, hand user data over to the authorities, or otherwise provide a bad service (including malware). this list is extra-cautious and includes VPNs with aggressive ad campaigns (particuarly aimed at more casual techies such as gamers and avid social media users). if you're with any of these, please switch to one on the 'recommended' list.
OVPN (bought out by Pango, a US-based company)
ExpressVPN (not independent)
Private Internet Access (not independent)
Zenmate
Nord VPN (not independent)
Surfshark (not independent)
Cyberghost (poor track record, not independent)
PureVPN (poor track record, not independent)
Ivacy (not independent)

Welcome to the Monster World, little one! Ask any of the cast questions!
Main Cast: (under cut cuz there's a lot)
-Lily [Human/Plant Island]; 9yo orphan human that managed to make her way to the Monster World. Little is known about her past, but is said to be a sweet girl. She lives with Blue, currently. Birthday is May 23rd
-Blue [Bowgart/Plant Island] 24 yo. Unsurprisingly named for the unusually dark color of his fur. Blue resides on Plant island with Tweedledee and Lily. He likes to do home cooking and baking, and is quite knowledgeable on many subjects. Some of his close friends say he's quite the scholar. Cemila is his older sister, and Twig, Jadau, and Cozmo are his friends. Birthday is September 7th.
-Tweedledee [Maw/Plant Island]. 11 yo. His egg was found in the forest by Blue's childhood home and taken in by Blue. He still lives with Blue even now. Tweedledee, also called Dee at times, is a bit rowdy, being that he is a child. Birthday is August 29th
-Twig [Shrubb/Plant Island] 23yo. Twig is notorious around Plant island for being a troublemaker. Despite this, he's quite a nice guy. However, he does get into physical altercations often, whoch is unhealthy to say the least. Blue and Twig have been nearly lifelong friends, surprisingly; Cozmo and Jadau are also his friends. Birthday is April 6th
-Cozmo [Ghazt/Plant Island] 22yo. Originally hatched and raised on Ethereal Island, Cozmo loves being around the greenery of Plant Island. She matches Twigs personality somewhat, also being a bit of a troublemaker. She's also smart, like Blue, but not nearly in as many topics. And despite her disposition, she cares deeply about her friends. Blue, Twig, and Jadau are her close friends. Birthday is December 14th
-Jadau [Entbrat/Plant Island] 24yo. Jadau is described as sweet and loving, being quite likable among youngsters. Basically, the big teddy bear of his friend group, making sure nobody gets hurt. His friends are Blue, Twig, and Cozmo. Birthday is March 19th.
-Raesa [Rare T-Rox/Plant Island]. 30yo. Sassy and witty, has an interest in books. She's snarky and not afraid to show it. She speaks her mind, often speaking of controversial topics. She has a general dislike for most monsters, prefers to be left alone. Her birthday is July 3rd.
-Bumbleweed [Potbelly/Plant Island]. 31yo. A sly and quick-witted plant, Bumbleweed is. He runs a produce stand in the Market Square in town, selling all sorts of raw goods. In the winter, he runs a pawn shop. He's said to have the finest vegetables and grain around, thus his prices are higher, though they can be negotiated. Birthday is October 2nd.
-Ylantang [Rare Oaktopus/Plant Island] ??yo. Not much is known about Ylantang. All anyone knows is that he is a short tempered healer who owns a apothecary that looks nearly in shambles. Sylia is his apprentice. Birthday is unknown.
-Sylia [Clamble/Plant Islant] 12yo. A bubbly, clumsy little thing. She is Ylantangs apprentice. Birthday is July 3rd.
-Cemila [Bowgart/Cold Island]. 31yo. Blue is her younger brother. She was hatched and raised on Plant island, then moved to Cold island for job opportunities. Indigo is her significant other, and Wistle is her friend. Birthday is June 18th
-Indigo [Pango/Cold Island] 28yo. They're shy but sweet. Crafty too. Lived on Cold island since hatching. Trans U U. Cemila is their girlfriend, and Wistle is more of an acquaintance to them. Birthday is December 30th
-Ember [Kayna/Fire Haven] appears to look 30ish yo, but exact age is unknown. Ember was found weak and ill on the long abandoned Tribal island, appearing to be covered in amber. She has then moved to Fire Haven with Sunny and Agave, who found her on one of their travels. She has definitely been around since the fabled Dawn of Fire, and loves recalling good times from back then, from friends to holidays. Her friends are Agave and Sunny. Her birthday is unknown, tho it seems to be sometime in September or November.
-Sunny [Flowah/Fire Haven] 33yo. Quiet and reserved, usually communicating in grunts or looks. Agave usually speaks on his behalf. Tough and intimidating, he is actually sweet and will give the best hugs. If you're lucky, you might catch him smile. His birthday is October 20th.
-Agave [Barrb/Fire Haven] 31yo. Shes sweet and motherly, taking care of all whom she cares deeply about. Usually seen with Sunny and talks on his behalf. She loves to garden and read on botanical studies and other planty things. Birthday is February 22nd.
Other Cast:
-Wistle [Tweedle/Cold Island] 27yo. Very talkative, and definitely earned the right to be called Cold Islands News Report. She learns all the latest gossip and spreads it around to those who want to hear. Though she can get a bit annoying, she means well, and is rather sweet. Birthday is November 15th.
-The Seasonals [more specifically, Punkleton, Yool, Hoola, Ffidyll, Booq'wurm] [Seasonal Shanty]. Not really seen outside their seasonal events. They act like more of a family rather than friends, though they aren't necessarily family (if that makes any sense?)
Ask Rules: -NOTHING INAPPROPRIATE OR HATEFUL. (The usual DNI stuff.) -Please specify who you are directing your ask to (pretty straightforward) -No roleplay asks please! :) -please be patient! i am a busy person with a life outside tumblr, so if you send an ask, it may not get answered right away!
[The beginning of it all]
if you have any questions to ask me, the blog handler, please dm me or shoot an ask thru my main!: @bear-cubs-art-things

The thing about synapsid jaw evolution is that we have a pretty good idea of how the bones transformed, but when it comes to life appearance and functioning of all these forms we can only guess - I`ve read a lot and still haven`t found a more or less definitive answer of what the ears of e.g. a gorgonopsid should really look like.
Jaw articulation is hard to see in screenshots, but the hips are a problem indeed. Maybe they`re not even synapsids but some sort of mammal-imitating reptiles, kinda like how some mesozoic crocs were trying to get into mammal niches?
As for Tobi I fail to see why it is less wyvern-like than Magnamalo. Sure it has that snake-like head, but the fart tiger seems far more aberrant to me.
As for pangolin scales and mammalian feathers, the scales look rigid enough even without beta-keratin. And a hypothetical pango-feather most likely wouldnt have the complex structure of a real one - merely a superficially feather-like form, no separate barbs or anything, just good enough for gliding. Though this is all unnecessary if we assume the dino-hipped beasts aren`t real synapsids like a said above...
Finally, I was thinking that maybe pronated hands are important and they indicate common ancestry among most flying/bird/brute wyverns. Maybe they all descend from a single unusual group of maniraptorans that radiated really hard into increasingly aberrant forms after the K-Pg? They`d be burrowers like you suggested, evolving the powerful pronating hands without flight feathers as well as much more flexible bodies and tails than other dinosaurs. Even wyvern pseudofingers could originally appear to help with digging.
Speaking of pseudofingers, what if they and the neighboring fingers eventually had the biochemical pathways for their development so entangled that a simple mutation could replace one with the other? That would explain some wyverns having extra fingers. Or maybe some pseudofingers just became indistinguishable from the real ones, possibly by co-opting some of the genes involved in their formation.
But this is all just idle speculation of course, I`m not trying to prove you wrong or anything.
(I’m actually going to post this one if you don’t mind because there’s some particularly interesting bits to talk about)
Fair enough, soft tissues do have a hard time showing up so yeah maybe the ears were different.
The Crocodylomorphs you might be thinking of are notosuchians. They were notorious for many of their convergently mammal-like features, and one of my UHC friends, Dr. Masiaka (mentioned in the UHC Kushala vid) actually thinks this is where fanged wyverns lie.
As for Tobi, I tend to ignore it not just because of its aberrant nature and you are right in your assertion that it’s just as wyvern-like as magnamalo. I suppose it’s just that I have a hard time fitting it into any particular group on my flying wyvern tree. I guess it could go near the base with the common ancestor of flying wyverns, but even though it lives similarly to my purposed FW ancestor it also looks nothing like it. Maybe future games will give us a new monster that can bridge the gap and make me restructure my tree. I know Somnacanth, and more recently Giasmagorm has done that for my piscine and elder tree, which will come out soon.
I think it’s worth mentioning that the whole beta keratin problem specifically refers to bishanten (and maybe garangolm) and not any other monster.
Tumblr media
I’ve been pretty vocal about my displeasure of bishanten as a monster hunter design due to its deranged combination of monkey and bird features. I could make a way better tengu monster than monhun B team.
Pronated hand ancestry theory actually seems pretty interesting.
And the idea of the biochemical pathways for fingers and false-fingers is an interesting one. While I doubt that the pathways for fingers and certain wrist bones would become entangled, pathways for phenotypic expression is also something that I don’t know a whole lot about, so my statement could be wrong. It definitely gave me something to think about for a bit.

Hotspot shield vpn netflix

This algorithm is accessible for both the private and public sectors, and due to the higher-length key sizes, it is quite difficult to bypass.
#Hotspot shield vpn netflix free
The encryption is available for both the free and premium Hotspot Shield subscriptions. This is the same encryption algorithm that the government of the United States uses for securing classified information. Hotspot Shield uses military-grade AES-256-Bit encryption for encrypting internet traffic. While the provider has been trying to clean up its privacy policy, things will not start to get better unless the headquarter is moved from the United States. According to a 2016 report, the Centre for Democracy and Technology recorded a complaint against Hotspot Shield with the Federal Trade Commission in August 2017. When it comes to privacy, Hotspot Shield doesn’t exactly have a favorable past. But, unfortunately, the United States has a past filled with multiple reports or incidents of various government agencies asking for customers’ data and connection logs for their own purposes. This is a big eyebrow-raiser for most privacy-conscious users, and we can understand if they wouldn’t want to trust Hotspot Shield with their online privacy and security. A country that is one of the founding members of the five eyes, seven eyes, and 14 eyes alliance group. Originally, it was owned by AnchorFree, a Switzerland-based company, but in 2009, it was bought by Pango, which Aura, a US-based company, later procured. Hotspot Shield’s headquarter is located in the United States of America. Let’s continue with our article and see what contributions this provider makes to your online security and safety. To help you make the best decision for yourself, we have gathered the most trustworthy premium VPNs for you. However, if you wish to receive dependable and guaranteed online security and safety while surfing cyberspace, we highly recommend opting for a popular premium VPN service. Also, if you are interested in knowing about some other reliable and safe VPN providers, then we suggest you check out our best free VPN providers in the 2022 list. We will be looking at the security features offered by Hotspot Shield to determine what makes it not so safe for VPN users. So despite the clear disadvantage concerning jurisdiction and logging policy, the provider is currently one of the most popular free VPNs out there. However, the provider currently has over 650 million users, thanks to the popular free version, various common security features, and 3200+ servers in 80+ countries, but the answer to “is Hotspot Shield safe?” remains the same. No, Hotspot Shield is not safe, mainly because of the provider’s headquarters location and a dodgy privacy policy.

REFLECTION
Overall I am super stoked with the outcome of ‘The Alphabet Directory.’ I found this to be a really interesting project as we were profiling creative agencies around New Zealand. I think by doing this, I found it to be super insightful as it meant I actually researched into the industry, giving me a glance at what is actually out there and the level of design in the real world.
This assignment definitely challenged me as we begun in groups, then split up to work on our own BLADs after this. In the groups, we all worked really well together, however I found that this was sometimes difficult to reach everyone and communicate as everyone has different schedules outside uni classes. I also found that we probably din’t split the work evenly, so some of us had far more of a workload - so this is something to learn for next time.
In terms of the marque, it was definitely a process. I was on creating and designing the marque, however I created one for the formative, however received feedback on adjusting the stroke and weight of the koru styled design. This was really helpful and beneficial as now I edited the marque to have a thinner inside point which works better with the font. Not only this, but with identifying factors like this, it has helped me understand what a good quality logo can look like. At the start, the original logo looked nice at first glance, however from a designers point of view, it would never survive on in the industry or a company. As a group we really wanted to incorporate the koru, as we were taking a Maori perspective on this by using ‘arapu’ as our name, which translates to alphabet. We found this all to be fitting considering we were doing the ABC Directory brief. Originally we begun with a Koru, however turned this into a circular design, with multiple Koru. Koru ‘means the creation of things’ and is native to New Zealand, so found this to be super meaningful to our work.
The colour palette begun as Pango, Ma and Pukepoto - which is black, white and a royal blue, however after the formative and when designing my own BLAD, I discovered myself not using the blue. I was really enjoying working with just black and white and found that this really made the studios photographs of their work stand out. Therefore this was quite a big change after the formative I made.
My typeface choices stayed the same, however I did increase the titles in size, and decrease the size of the body s=copy and subheadings. I did this once I test printed a couple pages and felt as though the type was far to big. By reducing the body copy, it made the titles stand out more and created more negative space on the spreads, which was a constant thing throughout the publication.
For the grids, margins and columns, the formative used a “3 and 6 column grid,” however it wasn’t too evident when we showed the example formative spreads. Therefore, when I created my own BLAD, I really wanted to make an effort to utilise a set grid structure. I stuck with a 3 column grid and a 10 & 14mm margin, and made sure my work used these guides (the photos broke the rules in a controlled way though). With the photographs I used in the BLAD, I wanted to ensure that I heroed these, as this is what draws in attention. All of the studios/ agencies I focused on had such amazing work to choose from, so therefore I didn’t want to change or alter their top tier work. In my BLAD I wanted to show that I will either show 1-3 images on a spread, which was different to the formative as they were showing 4 per page. I also would display one image on one page in some instances. By doing this I think it really showed the studios fine details they included in their work.
When I created the BLAD, I put this onto mockups so that myself and the viewer will be able to visualise what the book would potentially look like if it got properly printed - which includes an image of the front and back cover + spine. By doing this it made me feel like my work looked a lot more professional.
Overall, what I found challenging was probably the amount of time we had to create the individual BLAD as well as the proposal document. However, put under pressure and time restrictions I was super happy with the outcome of the final two elements. If I had more time, I would’ve spent longer on perfecting the proposal document as I felt as though I left a few typos and errors - I wish I spent more time proof reading. Not only this but if we had longer, I would’ve maybe experimented with more colour ways and options, however I am really happy with the black and white look.
In conclusion, this project really pushed me out of my comfort zone and challenged me, but am happy with what I achieved and learned.

For @redwingedwhump, who asked for me to sketch my oc Pango! He is a good boy. She also asked what he eats and what he likes to eat.
Pango's race are omnivores, capable of eating most things and have a very flexible diet, perhaps a bit more even than humans, as they have a particular taste for insects, bugs, and the like. Pango is a lot like the rest of his culture and quite enjoys creepy-crawly dishes, his favorite being pine beetles. In his native home, they were not as common as he would have liked, even though he came from a place with a lot of pine trees, simply because he was far from the only member of his species that like them a lot.
Thank you Red!!! :3 It was fun to sketch my scaled boi Pango again~
