So about five weeks out from opening we had our OG Grantaire experience some Life Stuff that meant they were unable to continue in a role with solos (we kept them on as Mabeuf!) and, seeing as we had already cast everyone else comfortable singing by themself between our dual cast leads, it didn't take too much convincing for me to jump into my favourite character's role.

Grantaire is no where near my range, and I stress-sang this solo about 30 times each night before curtains up, but it's mine and I'm so fond, and I did not at all realise how visible the talk with Enjolras up the back of the stage was but that hair-flip makes me cackle and one day I WILL animate it.

Shout out to this scene being responsible for my mom asking me - after we watched this footage for the first time with the cast - exactly what the relationship between Grantaire and Enjolras was. Such a great conversation that didn't at all have me praying for a localised asteroid touch down.

Thinking about a lot of things but mainly of how Terry Pratchett writes tiredness.

(Which means I’m mainly thinking of Sam Vimes. Which is normal.)

But he gets it so right.

The feeling behind your eyeballs. Stealing time from your future self with coffee, and, when the coffee doesn’t work anymore, going on sheer bloody mindedness because you cannot stop, you can’t. Not being sure when you last had real sleep. The strange state of mind you land in where you should absolutely not be tested because everything’s on a hair trigger, and things feel like they’re moving through treacle and your ability to make decisions feels shot to hell so you can only hope that you’re making the right choices.

Not Terry Pratchett’s words, if course, but I can’t get to my bookshelf at the moment, and, if I could, I’m not sure that I can read anymore. 

I’m tired, is what I’m getting at.

And Terry Pratchett writes the whole spectrum of being human so brilliantly, but, damn, how he nails down being tired.

When you say 'I am constantly thinking about death' I just hope it's a morbid fascination and interest in the topic, and not the desire to die. I hope it's because you think bones are cool and maybe you want to get into Vulture Culture, and not thinking of ending your life.

I hope you know that you are valued. People love you and this world would be a much less beautiful place without you in it. I hope it's not suicidal thoughts and I hope you just want to show off your bone collection, or your hoard of preserved creatures in jars.

I hope you don't think of leaving yet. I hope the reason it's constantly on your mind is because you long for your moots to be by your side, helping you reconstruct critters from a pile of bone you found wherever you got them.

It's not really morbid fascination, but thoughts I'm forced to have? I don't like these thoughts and I'm only thinking them when I'm at a really low place. More often than not, I am very happy to be alive and witness the word around me!! I love my family and art and strangers online and the sky and the clouds and a fun video game with a whole fandom around two of it's characters! These thoughts are suicidal and scary to me. I feel them very strongly and there are times I want to crash my car! But I won't! Because I know I don't want to in the long run! I love being alive and I have a very strong desire to be alive and seek help instead of leaving. I think these are more like intrusive thoughts! And they hit at my weakest moments which makes them feel real, but they aren't! I'm staying right here for as long as I can! I wanna make it to 100!
