I had a straight up delightful moment at work yesterday when a new member of the management team asked me how we were tracking warranties and I explained that we kind of aren't and he asked why we aren't and that meant he got a 30-minute rundown of how top-to-bottom fucked the procurement process is here.

First I explained the process for sending a quote (i am assigned a ticket in system A1, I create an opportunity in system A2, from the opportunity i can generate a quote in system B - if I start with the quote I can't associate it back to the opportunity or the ticket, if we need to change the quote after it was approved we need to generate a new quote from the opportunity to overwrite the old one - and send the quote from system B.)

Then I explained the process of getting approval (system B sends the quote and receives the approvals but does not communicate that to system A, so until it is manually updated system A sends a daily reminder about the quote to the client and after three days with no response will close the ticket even if the client approved the quote in system B. System B will send an email if a quote is approved but it comes from our generic support email so to make sure that I don't miss approvals I have filtering rules set up and a folder I check twice a day. Because there are 4 people who use this system I also check twice daily in system B to see if anyone else's quotes were approved).

Then I explained how I place the orders (easy! I'm a pro! We have a standardized PO pattern that tracks date, vendor and client, it's handy)

Then I explained how I document the orders (neither system A nor B has a way of storing information about orders in progress, only orders that are complete; as such I have created a PO Documentation spreadsheet that lists the PO number, vendor, line of business, client, items ordered, order total, order date, ETA, tracking numbers, serial numbers, delivery confirmation, ticket number for install, ticket title for install, shippong cost, and close confirmation, which all have to be entered individually and which require a minimum of three visits to the spreadsheet per order: entering initial info, entering tracking and SN info, then once more to get that info to close the opportunity)

Then I explained how we close an order (confirm hardware delivery or activate software, use system A2 to code hardware/software/non-taxable products appropriately, run wizard to add charges from A2 to ticket in A1; because the A2 charges were locked by approval in system B, use system A3 to add shipping or other fees or to remove any parts that were approved but not actually needed or ordered - THIS WEEK I got permission to do this bit on my initial A1 procurement ticket instead of generating an A1 post-procurement ticket for fees and shipping. Once all of that is done it's moved into system A4 and is no longer my problem).

If there is a warranty involved it *should* automatically have the expiration tracked in system C, but system C doesn't have any way to pull order info so there's no way it can track warranty *start* dates without somebody manually entering it or without using API data from the manufacturer, which some manufacturers don't provide (fuck you, Apple).

But me and my trainee are happy to add the start date to the configuration once a tech tells us that the device is enrolled in system C. If the techs will tell us that we can add that info no problem.

Until then, I have unfortunately been forced to start a spreadsheet.

The manager was appalled, it was great. I got to say the words "part of the reason things sometimes fall through the cracks is because we have so many cracks" and his response was "no shit." I'm talking to vendors about a procurement system now :) :) :) :)

The Norm has a family revelation comes from the interview with Josh Izzo during OmatiCon.

So the lore right now (JC can still change it): - Norm's wife is Olangi and that's why Norm wears a lot of Olangi accessories. - They have 2 kids and one of them is Popiti (Tuk's best friend according to Visual Dictionary) and they are both supposed to be there when Norm plays the fiddle in High Ground comic. These two kids are his biological offspring not adopted.

Maybe the person by Norm in this panel is his wife. Maybe the 2 kids in the front holding hands are Tuk and Popiti or maybe they are both Norm's kids. The art is not very detailed in this one so it's hard to tell if any of the kids has more fingers or eyebrows (even Jake is lacking eyebrows in wide shots). But this one is for sure one of Norm's kids and I think they look more Na'vi like.

- Olangi were decimated during the Tree of Souls battle and the survivors joined with Omatikaya. They lived in their yurts set between the new Hometree and Hell's Gate before RDA came back. - There might be Norm/AVTR Program comics in the future about the time before coming to Pandora (with Tommy and applying to go) and/or the time between A1 and A2. I want this so much right now.

On the non-Norm news side

There was also talk about some other media stuff coming, international fandom experiences available and merchandise.

He talks how they supervise lore to make it consistent between different media but movies always are most important. This includes any mistakes in pronunciation or grammar (which actually makes Na'vi more like real language aa none are ever 100% consistent).

If nothing else, Umbra is a girl, and something tells me Lord English isn't genderfluid. (Not that I wouldn't be thrilled to be wrong.)

GT: What are we even trying to accomplish here? What is even the rootin tootin POINT of this game? […] UU: yoUr objective today is to pave the way for the arrival of gods.

It's starting to sound like all the pre-Scratch Players will be slotted into the new session. I'm not sure why that would be required, though - the troll session certainly didn't integrate the Ancestors as Players.

Jade does have all the pre-Scratch Lands, though, as well as the Battlefield.

Are we going to be shoving both sessions together, or something? That feels like something that would glitch the hell out of the game - so, in other words, it's something I really want to see.

About Delicious in Dungeon: Story making

Q1. Your first long-running series has lasted for about 9 and a half years. Has it been different from your previous experience drawing short stories?

A1. Compared to short stories, the series has been easier because the same characters appear each time. But I was surprised to find that I got tired of drawing the same characters too many times.

Q2. You have said before that the overall structure of the story was decided before serialization began, but how much of that had you communicated to your editor? Also, what kind of communication did you have during the series production?

A2. The goal was something we discussed and had decided on from the beginning. The goal itself was simple, but the path to get there was more difficult and took longer than imagined.

Q3. Regarding the overall story concept and development, did you write out or put anything down in writing (such as the plot)?

A3. I did, but it was simple.

Q4. Did you come up with the dishes based on the monsters you wanted in the story? Or did you come up with the monsters based on the dishes?

A4. It depended on the story, but usually the story came first followed by the monsters or food. I feel like that was most often the order.

Q5. As you progressed in drawing the series, what elements of the characters, story, or world expanded or grew in the most unexpected way?

A5. Nothing particularly unexpected perhaps. When I used to draw web manga, I tended to think up inconsequential settings. So, from the beginning I tried to restrain myself as much as possible and not expand too much. I was surprised when my editor said "Let's expand it more," in the second half of the series.

Q6. "Delicious in Dungeon" starts with a relatively simple setting, but as the series and the labyrinth exploration continues, the map slowly expands little by little in the readers' minds. It becomes more three-dimensional, revealing the secrets of the world, and taking on a multilayered structure. Are there any sources that you used as a reference, or which influenced you in creating this multilayered structure?

A6. A long time ago, when I was working on my personal web manga (fantasy), I drew it however I wanted, thinking that "Only people who can read this will read it," but I regularly received feedback that it was "unreadable", so I tried to make it as easily. accessible as possible.

Q7. The series combines many elements, including "fantasy", "gourmet", "battles", and "puzzle solving", but I think it's also important that it is a "comedy" which makes people laugh. Could you let us know if you have a creative commitment towards depicting humor?

A7. My hopes are that I can make it fun for people to read.

About Delicious in Dungeon: Drawing manga

Q1. Please tell us about the drawing tools you currently use, both digital and analogue.

A1. In terms of analogue tools, I use a light box, a G pen, a round pen, and a brush pen. And for digital, I use CLIP STUDIO PAINT and a Wacom LCD tablet. Screentone pasting is always done on the computer, so ultimately it all ends up as a digital manuscript.

Q2. Do you have any rules or reasons for using digital and analog separately?

A2. I'm always looking for ways to draw better and save time, so the exact approach is probably different for almost every chapter. Personally, I feel that analogue methods create more appealing lines, but I feel like digital saves time, so maybe I'll do a digital rough sketch and do the inking by hand… I might have been using a G pen, and maybe I'll try out a turnip pen, or this time I'm short on time so I'll draw it entirely digitally, but with digital I can redo it over and over, so maybe analogue is still faster, and so on and so forth. I'm indecisive in this way and so haven't developed a consistent process.

Q3. I understand that you prepare 3D data for your assistants to draw the backgrounds. What kind of data did you make for "Delicious in Dungeon" ?

A3. You could call it 3D, but it's not a proper model, just something to help with the rough sketching. I line up cubes to share the perspective and sense of scale, and they use it as a reference.

Q4. At the beginning of the series, the characters and backgrounds were somewhat simply drawn, and it seems like they became richly detailed over the progression of the story. What was your intention behind using these different styles?

A4. It's simply that my technique isn't stable. I thought I'd put a lot of effort in at the start. I remember being confused when my editor asked me to add more in to the drawing, and I wondered "Where…?"

Q5. Thinking about the food, were there any menu illustrations that you were particularly satisfied with, or which you struggled with?

A5. I've never liked my own food illustrations. But the times when I read other people's manga and thought "That looks delicious," I think it's been more an influence of the movement, the staging, and the situation than the drawings.

Q6. For the world maps and the terrain of each continent, did you refer to any maps of the real world? I feel like the shape of the 'island' is similar to the shape of Fukuoka Prefecture or Kyushu.

A6. I didn't reference any specific geography, but I did try to put thought into things like whether a developed city would be near a river or the sea, and what the coastline would look like. I'm pleased if it feels similar to a real place, because it means my interpretation was pretty accurate.

About Delicious in Dungeon: Other

Q1. Which is your favorite monster?

A1. Nightmare.

Q2. I'm sure you have received a lot of feedback from readers in countries and regions outside of Japan. Please tell us if there was anything from them that made you happy, was unexpected, or which made a lasting impression on you.

A2. When you play foreign games, there are times when you think "Why did they translate it into Japanese like that?" But having been on the side of having something translated, I've realized some things are unavoidable, or endless, and there are many things that don't matter either way from the author's perspective, so it was interesting.

About Ryoko Kui's short story collections and herself

Q1. Dragons are a consistent and important motif in your work. Was there any particular work or experience which inspired this? Also, are there points about drawing dragons which you find interesting or have had to work hard on?

A1. It's less about liking dragons, and more that I'm interested in the worlds in which dragons exist. When I draw dragons, the depiction in itself has a sweet feeling to it. I have never had a pet reptile, so I don't have a very good understanding of them.

Q2. Unomiya University in your story "The dragon's school is on top of the mountain" has a Faculty of Dragons, Department of Environmental Studies, and Department of Technology Studies, and a Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. If you were to enroll in the university, which department or faculty would you like to enter?

A2. I probably wouldn't be accepted….

Q3. The collection includes a short story staged as an essay manga. Are you a fan of essay manga? Please tell us about any genres of essay manga that you like.

A3. I love all kinds of essay manga. I read them often.

Q4. If you were to make your own game, what kind of game would you like to make?

A4. I prefer being a player when it comes to games.

Q5. When did you first start drawing illustrations (doodles)?

A5. I don't exactly remember when I first drew a picture, but I think I started drawing manga around the fourth or fifth grade of elementary school. in my notebooks and had my friends read them.

Q6. What is the most fun part about drawing manga?

A6. Every part is fun and hard in its own way.

Q7. Please tell us if there is anything you "just can't stop no matter what".

A7. My procrastination habit.

Managed to strike a conversation! Emidio seemed happy to discuss the Tern with me, and i've put a great amount of his observation down in shorthand. Told we're due to arrive at Ravine just some 10 minutes after leaving the tunnel, yet when - varies greatly. Despite being as persistent as i dared, didn't get too much about the dark route we're taking. Hiw can it be that we spend a different time under the peaks QAD and yet make stops with enviable punctuality? My greatest desire is to find any personnel besides the gloomy tea woman, yet not so likely with the Shapes around.

If i am to trust Emidio's words, some of the paper trash rolling under the seats he swears is a rudimentary emdemic life form akin to rootless plants of the west. Still unsure if that's a joke of his.

Page 8 (next to the sketch of a scene) Ravine-Postal 9:50 10:10 Finally back to open sky. Shapes out for a smoke and look almost careless. Sent a postcard back to Society in Jahna. Bought steamed buns of decent taste. Really need to find Emidio and get a good expo for Ravine, but he's nowhere to be found. Way too many insects ouside.

Page 9 10:40 - RvneP -> Cantbank Well, they do talk! Shapes have congratulated me on being through "the worst of it", whatever they meant. Both of them are now quite loud and inconsiderate. A. only laughed when i mentioned his rudeness. I miss the morning quiet.

11:00 Passed a mountain lake which amused us all greatly. At first i thought we're being blinded by the suns, yet the bright shimmer came from dozens of fish, moving through with their sides to the light. A. is particularly taken with the picture.

Page 10 Spotted Emidio who i started to worry about, since none has seen him since our stop in Ravine. Almost glad to see the tea maid and her cart back in time for the afternoon round.

11:10 - switching tracks? Apparently taking a detour, which everyone is understandable annoyed about. Can't hear even half of the announcement over Shapes as usual. Translation of 5 Questions for Aoyama Gosho in anan

In a recent issue of the anan magazine, the idol Kyomoto Taiga had the opportunity to ask Aoyama five questions. I’ve translated them here.

Q1. When did you first decide on the relationship between Kudo Shinichi and Kuroba Kaito that was revealed in Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram?

The last movie revealed how Shinichi and Kaito were related to each other. I always wanted them to have a special relationship, so I ended up bursting into tears in the theatres from shock and joy. I do personally think that this wasn’t always planned, as Magic Kaito came before Conan… or at least, that’s what I’m imagining. So, how exactly did you end up deciding on their relationship?

A1. The truth is, I decided on it a pretty long time ago.

When Kaito Kid first appeared in the [Conan] manga, Yamaguchi Kappei - who voices Shinichi - asked, “Since Kaito and Shinichi look similar, I’ll be voicing him, right?”

Then I went, “…Ah, you’re right.” (haha)

That’s when I decided to make them cousins (haha). So it was a while ago, a whole 28 years ago. It was around when the anime started. The reason why I chose to reveal it in a movie has no deep meaning, I just thought I wouldn’t have the opportunity to draw it in the manga. So, I was like, “Then I’ll show it in the movies.”

Wait, Kyomoto-kun, you burst into tears watching the reveal? I see, thank you very much (haha).

Q2. Do you have a vision for Movie 30 just yet, and if so how much?

I do love that, well, grand, special, gorgeous feeling that yearly release works give you. That’s why I’m super excited thinking about how amazing the 30th movie might be. So, do you have anything planned out in your mind already?

A2. I do. I have an amazing vision.

I have a vision that you’ve all been waiting for (haha).

Q3. Is it possible for any member of the main cast to die?

I would rather they didn’t, but if they can, I want to be prepared… that’s what I’m thinking. I would be very happy if you could even just answer if it’ll happen or if it won’t.

A3. Ahhh, I’m not sure how much of a ‘main cast’ member they are, but…

There is one guy in danger… (haha)

Q4. Please tell me about the spin-offs you’d like to write.

If there’s any character that makes you think “I want to write a spin-off for them,” or “I want to dig deeper into who they are,” I’d love to know about it. On a side note, I also love carefree stories where nobody is murdered.

A4. There’s tons. I’d love to write a spin-off for each Wild Police Story character one by one, but I don’t have that kind of time…

I see, so you like more carefree stories as well. You’re kind. You’re not the type to go all, “It’s not bloody enough!” (haha) Ah, the case in this month’s Sunday actually doesn’t involve murder, so it might be perfect for you. You should read it!

Q5. Please tell me the inside scoop on how Koumoto Hyouga was created! [T/N: He’s the guy that Hattori pretended to be during that shrine case where he wore a mask with a voice changer to hide his identity from Kazuha.]

I was super happy to hear that you used me as inspiration, but I’ll also be happy to learn how this character was created in the first place.

A5. At that time, I was receiving mountains of fanmail all saying, “Kyomoto Taiga-kun is a huge Conan fan, so please put him in the manga!” So, I thought, “I see, so he’s that much of a fan…” That was the initial trigger (haha).

But I knew that it wouldn’t do to put you in the manga as-is, so I changed your name a bit. I also googled photos of you to see your outfits, and went “So this is the kind of clothing he wears…” while using it as reference.

okay so this was extremely adorable.

why do i feel like the stitches on her lip didn’t leave much of a scar but definitely one that will only really notices and he always kisses her there

wait i 100% agree. samy doesn’t even realize he notices the small scar until the summer they finally get together and will gently kisses her there and she’s just so caught off guard by the little affectionate gesture.

the couple chose to have a lazy day in bed together after a really long day before out on the lake getting horrible sun burns. will and samy hadn’t moved from her bed besides getting up to use the bathroom and venture downstairs for the occasional snack. no one heard a peep from the young couple hidden away in the girl’s room binge watching the entire pretty little liars series.

will wasn’t a huge fan of the show, but he found it interesting nonetheless and after watching two episodes, he was hooked on the plot line and really only kept watching to stay by his girlfriend’s side all day.

he chose her chest as his pillow and samy’s arm draped across his where the rest of their bodies tangled together underneath the blanket. it was nice having the whole summer to be able to take days like this where they did absolutely morning and no one would even bat an eye or come bother them. considering all the people that were at the house, it was a miracle no one came knocking on samy’s door needing something.

“every season her finger is never centered,” will complained as the infamous intro played. samy giggled.

“literally tell me about it. it’s my biggest pet peeve of the entire show honestly,” the girl agreed, hitting skip because she didn’t need to watch the recap of a show they’ve been watching nonstop for the past three hours.

will chuckled, tucking himself in closer despite there being no more distance left between them. samy squeezed his bicep, her other finger twirling some of his curls around. he loved days like these and tried soaking them up as much as possible knowing they were separating in a month for school.

at that thought, the blonde peered up at his girlfriend who’s gaze was too focused on the show. she was fixated on the scene unfolding on the screen, too oblivious to her boyfriend’s slight staring. the show faded out of will’s mind though, his only focus becoming his pretty girlfriend right next to him.

“will, are you even watching anymore?” the brunette giggled, finally feeling will’s intense stare on her side profile. he blushed.

“i am,” he argued, shooting a quick glance to the computer screen before continuing to admire the girl before him.

will caught a glimpse of samy’s little scar on the underside of her bottom lip where the soccer ball hit a year ago. it was really little and pretty faint, but anytime the blonde looked at her, he couldn’t help but notice the fading scar there. he doubted the youngest hughes even noticed the scar herself, but it was actually the only thing will saw whenever he took his gaze down to her lips.

it was tiny and before they were together, will always used to think about kissing her there as if he was taking any pain she felt away.

“you’re literally not watching anymore, what’s up with you? what are you doing?” the girl paused the show, another giggle falling from her lips when she looked at will again.

his blush returned, eyes bouncing to her for a second. “i’m just admiring you,” he smiled.

now it was her turn to blush, “you’re so corny. this is a really good episode, you need to pay attention.” she tried pushing will’s face back to the computer screen.

“i will, i will, but can i kiss you first?”

how was samy supposed to say no to that? she rolled her eyes, but placed both hands on will’s cheeks to bring his lips to hers. it was a sweet, quick kiss and before the blonde completely pulled away, her dipped his lips to her scar, pressing a gentle peck there. his action caught her off guard.

“what was that for?” samy flushed.

“just wanted to kiss your scar,” will hummed and he watched as she subconsciously traced her fingers along her skin.

“oh, i always forget that’s there.”

“it’s super small, but i notice it every time and wanted to kiss it,” the hockey player flushed a bit, wondering if samy would think that was embarrassing or something.

her features softened though, “you notice it?”

“yeah, i do. sorry. it’s super super small so i’m sure no one else does,” the boy quickly rushed out, worried he made her self-conscious of it now.

samy shook her head, “no, no, it’s not that. i just..i didn’t know you noticed it because it’s so small. i’m kind of flattered.”

“oh. yeah. i think it’s cute. you’re cute,” will reached up to kiss that same spot and then the bridge of her nose. she crinkled her face, flushing at the sudden affection.

“you’re cute too,” she pecked him back before settling into her pillow. will grinned, settling himself back against her chest as they continued their bingeing.
