Can I answer this with gay/fantasy/spooky bullshit? I think everything I read, webnovel or not, fits into one or all of those.

🧍‍♂️I am not gonna lie I have no idea if anything I bought was new this year. I suppose the danmei I do know were this year and I do love svsss with all my heart for just how everything dumb it is, so we will go with that while I sweat nervously about the others

15) did you read any prize nominated/winning books this year?

ok so I suppose "The House in the Cerulean Sea" is award-winning and the first one I thought of as likely so we'll talk about it. It was a very sweet, soft novel but in perhaps my harshest critiques, two things really stood out to me. 1) it feels like a novel Disney could make a movie of and sell to China by editing out a single scene, which really hurts the "Oh this is an LGBT story!" For me since the rest you can honestly pass off as friendship but is apparently supposed to be oblivious pining and 2) the ending also felt so unbelievably wish fulfillment it instantly broke any suspension of disbelief that actual like, modern fantasy world built? I can believe the phoenix man but changing an entire awful racist bureaucracy by like one exposé? Very sweet novel but it felt like it needed a lot more obvious pining, says the ace, or like 50 more pages at the end.

There was also "The Twisted Ones," which had some very awful critters in it but I think I would still have tossed them like, salami slices so you know. Good awful fellas.

20) most anticipated release? Did it meet expectations?

I am gonna fully admit I have mostly read webnovels for the past two years and have only tuned back in to real print books very recently. (I owe the library money which means I can simply never go back. It is probably $10 max.) We started going to b&n occasionally as an effort to support not-Amazon, so now we both have a backlog and I am reading some horror now apparently? I am currently waiting to manage to snag What Moves the Dead I suppose? Which I am 99% sure is released, it just is the most elusive book in the b&n.

25) what reading goals for next year?

To read more of the pile I have picked up! I also want to read - give me a moment - Lovecraft bc I want to write things that would make him roll in his grave. I think yog sothoth deserves kissies. I have a few novels on my shelf rn that are the beginnings of series and I am very excited to actually sit down some time and get into those! Also making a concerted effort to read more gay things. 90% gay please. We did find a novel with an ace protag as well! So imagine me clapping my hands in delight at the idea of reading it (but still not quite getting around to it).

Essentially this year I finally got tired of dealing with the censorship danmei has to dance around and figured you know what? Let's go find some actual books with actual queer stories that don't have to dance around the fact - helped by a major webnovel publisher pulling some shit that meant 90% of translations are buried or locked in discords now. So ACTUAL BOOKS hahha.

I really really liked Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune a lot

i laughed really hard at parts and cried a lot at other parts and altogether really enjoyed the exploration of grief and starting anew and what life means while you still have it and everything the book explored

i just really really loved reading it. i started reading it yesterday afternoon and finished it today, this evening, because i just wanted to read more. i loved all the characters so much. i loved the story. would 100% recommend

1. historical fiction: The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by M. Lee i read this bc my best friend got it, and i enjoyed it a lot more than she did, probably bc i went in with very low expectations; i don't usually like/read historical fiction, but i read this in a couple days and aside from the ending being quite abrupt (imo), it was a good read, especially for the summer! (it has: lgbtq+ characters, good sibling dynamics, adventure, witty banter, slight supernatural elements)

2. urban fantasy: The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune my goodness. where do i even begin? this book felt like a tight hug from someone you love. a warm cup of your fave tea and a soft blanket, rain pitter-pattering on the window. this story made me laugh out loud, the characters are so well-written and so so endearing. honestly, if you're in need of an emotional pick-me-up or just something comforting to treat yourself to, this is it. read it. (it has: found family, comfort, humor, such well-executed world building you're immersed instantly)

3. published this year: One Last Stop by C. McQuiston this story. i didn’t expect this in the slightest, but i can’t say i mind it; of course the romance and storytelling were lovely, it’s a CMQ book - but what really swept me off my feet were the side characters. i don’t think i’ve ever loved side characters as much as i do this bunch. these amazing, diverse, fully fleshed-out humans that really feel like you could bump into them on the Q.  (it has: found family, humor, a cast of side characters like you’ve never seen before, lgbtq+ characters (so many!))

4. recced by a friend: The Case for Jamie by B. Cavallaro this is the 3rd book in the Charlotte Holmes series and i gotta say, there was a plot twist that had me sending my bestie all caps screaming double texts, but like,,,, 7 of them? anyways, a good summer read :) (it has: mystery, unreliable narration, good plot twists, a lovable main character and also a slightly annoying other mc lol)

5. on my tbr for over a year: A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab (reread) wasn’t this just lovely. i enjoyed this so much more than the first time i read it, it’s actually insane. just wow. why should u read this? parallel Londons where magic thrives, starves, or lies forgotten. a piratical antiheroine. a royal diplomat turned smuggler. a high-stakes mission. simply *chef’s kiss* if you’re looking for a brilliant, original fantasy, do yourself a favor and pick this up! (it has: incredible worldbuilding, lovable characters, vivid af storytelling, multiple dimensions and magic!)

6. trans mc: Meet Cute Diary by E. Lee  i really wanted to love this. i really did. and even though this went in a diff direction than i’d expected, it was a pretty straight-forward story, without any shocking plot twists (which i enjoy a lot, so i kinda missed them), and tbh i didn’t get sucked into the story like i would’ve wanted. however. this book has such a diverse cast of characters, and has a non-binary character written by a non-binary author - i think the representation really is the main thing this book has going for it, even if the story itself isn’t the most ground-breaking. (it has: a mixed race trans main character, lgbtq+ rep, a wonderful sibling dynamic (my fave thing abt the book)) * please do check out trigger warnings for the book or dm me about it before reading

7. (dark) academia: Ninth House by L. Bardugo well.... ms bardugo’s done it again. i was a bit wary going in bc i absolutely adore her six of crows duology and this was the point where i’d find out if it was just the crows, or if i actually liked her writing. thankfully it was the latter. i do have a couple... hiccups? - issue is too strong of a word - about it, but overall i enjoyed this a lot. i just love how unique bardugo’s ideas are and how expertly she weaves them into a fully rounded story. now onto the painful wait for the sequel! (it has: mystery, plot twists (multiple, yeehaw!), a dark, grisly atmosphere, a captivating narrative, lots of mythology and academia references) * please do check out trigger warnings for the book or dm me about it before reading

8. author of color: Emergency Contact by M.H.K. Choi wow i did not like this one.. maybe it’s just that i’m so over stories where the mc is violently not like other girls and the whole romance is based on ppl fixing each other… i really don’t enjoy reading abt characters who just hate themselves or about hating on other women for no damn reason and calling out everything ’wrong’ with them.. def wouldn’t want to read this in my impressionable years, thinking these flaws were everything others notice about you.. also, like, zero chemistry between the mc and the love interest

9. main character of color: Six of Crows by L. Bardugo this remains to be one of my absolute faves ever. worldbuilding? amazing. character dynamics? chef’s kiss. the writing? atmosphere? plot twists? oscar. pulitzer. nobel prize. 

10. fake dating: Take a Hint, Dani Brown (T. Hibbert) i think i went into this one with too high expectations... i’d seen ppl rave about this all over various social media and yeah the story was good, but i didn’t find it to be anything groundbreaking? i also gotta say i wasn’t the biggest fan of the main character. your typical romance novel, i’d say (it has: lgbtq+ main character, main characters of color, mental health rep)

11. one word title: Him (E. Kennedy, S. Bowen) okay okay i really just read this to get a bit of a short break from crooked kingdom.. my brain needed sth effortless that required zero cognitive function to read and this was lovely; fair warning tho, this book is about 87% smut, so if it’s not your thing i wouldn’t recommend this - otherwise, i read this in a day and it was a good quick, undemanding read (it has: hockey gays, miscommunication, childhood friends to lovers)

12. disabled character: Crooked Kingdom (L. Bardugo) i mean. you know what’s up already, this remains one of my fave books, cue the incoherent screaming amirite ladies (it has: everything u need in life, including lgbtq+ and disability rep)

13. not romance-centered: This Is Going to Hurt (A. Kay) can u believe i finally finished this? me neither. this one is perfect for fellow commuters, as it’s written in the form of very short diary entries; funny, heart-breaking, real. a wonderful read for anyone interested in medicine, or in the hidden inner mechanics of the nitty gritty of patient care. seriously, read this.

Currently Reading: i will be real here.............i picked up three books from my library (the house in the cerulean sea by tj klune, this was our pact by ryan andrews and heartstopper v1 by alice oseman) and i’ve barely opened the first two and was planning on rereading the third one but TBH all i’ve read for the past two weeks is mswa / mha fic. soooooooooo, yeah. part of me thinks i’ve burned out a bit on reading books bc i’ve read so much these past couple months even though a bunch of it was manga so hopefully once i get this one book in my hands (cemetery boys) i can kickstart my reading books again. i really want to read that one.

taking this to mean just books I read this year and not books that specifically came out this year: the house in the cerulean sea by tj klune, aristotle and dante dive into the waters of the world by benjamin alire sáenz, thirteen storeys by jonathan sims, under the whispering door by tj klune, aaaaaand boyfriend material by alexis hall!! (these are not in a set order btw I just loved them <3)

6. Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?

oh jeez I have so many. the one that comes to mind is one last stop by casey mcquiston!! I am going to read it eventually bc it does sound really cute and I've heard a lot of good things I'm just addicted to buying books so I buy new ones and read those first and then forget to read the others. she's next on the list tho! for real this time!

I will be honest I really only use goodreads for keeping track of what books come out when! so I don't really log and rate books. that said usually if I enjoy a book enough I'll just give it 5 stars so if I had to guess my average would likely be somewhere around 4, factoring in a few clunkers that I would not have allowed to get past 1.

swan song by robert mccammon!!! my family started up a monthly book club this year and that was my mom's first pick. it's somewhere around eleven hundred pages I think?? took me the full month to finish lmao but it was good!

the canon trolls still exist and interact with your trolls (indicating interplanetary communication) but presumably haven’t played SBURB yet

mutantbloods are automatically assigned the Cancer sign

That’s all I can glean so far? So apart from those rules, I’m going to review your character as though she’s Alternian, since it takes place in the same universe.

Name: Sallva Spiral

You don’t really mention why you gave her this name, but since she’s a self-insert I am going to assume that the first name is at least somewhat related to your first name. The last name could do with some obfuscation though; ow about Xilleh, which is just “helix” backwards and with an extra ‘l.’ It’ll also help hammer home the “mutated DNA” theme I’m hoping to include. I also like it because now both her first and last name have two l’s side by side, which kind of looks like a strand of DNA that has unwound before replication!

Strife Specibus: woo! I am unsure if it’s an actual weapon or not, but before the game she doesn’t have one. Her Strife Specibus consist of two mini scythes (she got the code from a friend of hers), connected to chains that cuff to her wrist. That way, if one gets knocked out of her hand, she doesn’t have to jump all over the place to retrieve it in battle

I think that’s still a specibus; it’s just scythekind. In the meantime, I’ve had a look at you and your co-author’s profiles on deviantArt, and I think y’all may be interested in the mechanics of the Spiral Knights MMO since it links your names together! In light of that, maybe you wanna try swordkind, given that it’s the iconic Spiral Knight weapon? You can still keep the concept of a weapon that’s cuffed to her wrists.

Fetch Modus: I am unsure of what to give her. As if I’m going to be honest, she’s more likely to use a bag than a Fetch Modus

How about we split the difference with a BACKPACK MODUS, with 4 compartments that have limited space?

Blood Color: Gold! Haha

So here is where I’m trying to hammer home the mutantblood concept bc you’ve made a goldblood with very very obvious seadweller ears, and those two generally don’t…mesh…

I may lose the ears, but I’m gonna take a page out of CD’s book for an “aquablood” mutant we got a while ago and make her a polyblood to preserve some of the interesting aspects of this character. I’m thinking cerulean, since there’s overlap there both in the symbol visual and in eye-weirdness. Also lets me keep one of the colors in her initial color scheme with easy design justification.

She could be a polyblood who was basically assumed to be a “pure” goldblood because of her eyes, but whose true abilities lie in being a latent ceruleanblood.

As for why she wasn’t culled as a baby: this yellowblood doesn’t really look like a mutant, and even if her weird cerulean eye is an indication that she is, look at the other one. She’s got partial voidrot! She’ll be dead soon anyway. So the reason Sallva is still kickin’ is because, as a gold/ceruleanblood, her cerulean side generates enough energy to temper her voidrot, while her gold side dampens her psychic abilities by feeding off the energy. No telekinesis.

Symbol and Meaning: Her Symbol is actually from the Extended Zodiac, so I am unsure of it’s meaning.

It’s Gemsces, sign of the Prudent! A quick rundown: overbearingly smart, restless and skeptical, and always looking to take care of others. Also, prudence means showing careful thought and planning for the future.

Troll Tag: spiralLights! It’s a reference to her original last name that I had given her before I found out about the 6 letter thing.

Quirk: she replaces her ‘s’ with ‘5’, her ‘a’ with ‘@’, and her ‘o’ with ‘0’

While this dovetails with canon, we’ve also found with Hiveswap Friendsim that quirks needn’t necessarily be all that complex! We’ve been operating off the quirks of a bunch of real dramatic trolls for a while now. But maybe that’s who your troll is! If we go specifically with the polyblood redesign, the “too many quirks” could also just be a reflection of her inner self, which is a soup of contradictions.

I think I can make up sufficient reason to keep these quirks; Sallva can swap her s’s out for 5′s because of the 5 nucelotides we commonly see in DNA and RNA. She can swap a for @ because it’s a spiral. As for swapping o with 0, I have I think a sufficiently interesting backstory for her that’ll make that work.

Actually let me just add another one, for fun, if you’re keeping the new last name: Sallllva doublles allll her ‘l’s. The quick br0wn f0x jump5 0ver the ll@zy d0g. Give5 her @ nice llittlle dr@wll, and overdramatic to boot.

Special Abilities: She’s a Gold blood, so it’s obvious she has some sort Psychic ability. Hers is Strong Empathic abilities. Sometimes they can be so strong she gets confused as to which emotions are hers, she can also guess a person’s thoughts sometimes.

Goldblood abilities are typically telekinetic in nature, not psychic! But I really really like this concept, so I think this gets folded into the polyblood mythos; she’s heavily empathetic because of the psychic abilities that ceruleanbloods sometimes get!

To make things interesting, let’s make it so she has stuttering resistance to psychic attacks; sometimes active resistance, and sometimes an even lower resistance than usual depending on her mental state.

Lusus: Her Lusus is a mix between a Snake and an Eevee. Why? Because I like Snakes and am a Proud Slytherin and my favorite Stuffed animal is an Eevee. Her Lusus is Deceased

Also works for the polyblood theory, since polyjuice potion uses snakeskin and Eevee is like, the Pokemon for taking a generic base and turning it into whatever you want.

Personality: She’s paranoid. It doesn’t really affect her often, but she was one of the few in her session who was Skeptical about SGRUB. She’s loyal though, as well as possessive. She’s actually killed trolls who picked on her friend, who’s a mutant blood. She gets most of her traits from me. She’s my ‘True Sign Troll.’

Interest: She loves Art, her cat Frisk, Writing, Snakes, Plants

Iiiiiii don’t know that trolls can have cats as like…pets? But let me sell you on a different idea: when Sallva’s yellowblood lusus was killed, she despaired. Her mental health went downhill. She was unusually prone to psychic manipulation. Until…she was found by a ceruleanblooded lusus who had lost its charge. It is highly unusual for a lusus to bond with an adult troll, but it had just lost its troll at a very young age, and was mostly acting on instinct to find the nearest unbonded ceruleanblood. Most ceruleanblood lusii seem to be bug-like, but we could argue for something like the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro:

Title: Mage of Life - She actually uses her ability over Life to control plants to help her fight, or to talk to animals to get help. I am unsure all of what a Mage of Life can do, but I do know they make brilliant doctors, especially if they reach God Tier, which Sallva does. After ascending to God Tier, she refused to kill another Soul, mostly because she can feel their pain. The only exception being her Ex-Matesprite, Adrium.

Hmmm. Once again, since this is a self-insert I’m loath to change stuff like names or signs or titles since people usually come to it after a great deal of introspection. Makes more sense to retrofit the character abilities so…

I don’t know that she’d be able to control plants or ask animals to get help, but it makes a lot of sense to me that she’d be able to encourage nearby creatures to help just by broadcasting her distress. Also I really like the touch that she’s essentially railroaded into the Hippocratic oath after god-tiering because of overblown empathy. I would be most interested in seeing how Adrium’s death would affect her, since her anger wouldn’t supercede his pain.

How about the Inklling? Unlike her descendant, this troll was mistakenly assigned as a ceruleanblood. She was most famous for having devastatingly accurate hunches when solving mysteries, much to the chagrin of the tealbloods below her. In reality, this was her empathetic abilities manifesting themselves, though they were deeply tempered by her partial voidrot, and therefore not detected by her fellow caste.

Land: Land of Jungles and Deserts - *Snickers* I most put her here because I wanted to be able to make her complain about being a Sea-Dweller in a Desert and stuff.

Dream Planet: Derse - My baby’s a proud Derse Dreamer. Anyway this is relevant in the way the Derse Dreamers are Blue Team, and Prospit Dreamers are Red Team.

History: Sallva actually blames herself for her Lusus’ death, why? Because her Ex-Matesprite killed her. Adrium (Ex-Matesprite) is a violent troll, but Sallva overlooked his faults until it was too late. She gets revenge during the game and kills Adrium, though she looses her eyes and a piece of her horn to the fight, she reataches her horn with a vine though. She currently only has a Moirail (which I might upload later.) Her Sprite is Frisksprite, who jumped in the orb thingy (I forgot what it’s called.) They live on a sister planet to Alternia called Tronia, and have in fact met the Cannon Trolls a few times when Tronia’s Princess went to visit her fellow Princess, Feferi. They haven’t been there since Alnaya (Princess) got in a fight with Feferi. Though a few of them remain friends with the Cannon trolls, for example; Sallva and her Moirail Nellie still being friends with Nepeta and Equius(did I spell his name right?)

his parents are decent and hardworking people. his dad isn’t around a lot and his mom is kinda sickly, so when his older sister (who was the one who really helped his mom out with physical tasks and stuff where she’d be on her feet a lot) left to become a sailor and pay bills he started trying to take on even more responsibility to make sure she didn’t strain herself. because of his parents he values hard work but he’s also very critical of the way society demands raw labor and productivity that pushes people to their breaking point, and believes that if he’s more well-off than someone in any way then it’s his responsibility to help them as much as he can. that’s also why he values generosity and compassion so much and scorns the rich who do nothing beneficial to society and the poor with their money.

Zhe dips a wing, tail twisting and tail fins flaring in accordance. The tight, spiraling turn sends the early light of day rippling across zhir golden scales in erratic, fantastical patterns. Zhe continues to spiral until finally breaking cloud cover. Beneath zhir and the clouds lies the ocean. It’s rippling expanse dotted with dark, rocky spires and black stone plateaus hosting a rainbow plethora of zhir fellow dragons sunbathing. Several of the colorful heads rose up upon noticing zhir, bugling a greeting as well as stretching out their thought-touches to briefly brush across zhirs.

One Who Leaps from Cloud to Sky

A answering trill echoes from Sky’s throat, zhir thought-touch responding in kind. Zhe makes a few more loops about the gathering place. Sharp, slit-pupiled eyes scrape over the oceanscape, searching but not finding. None of zhir fellows seems distressed, except for a couple of brilliantly red hatchlings squeaking imperiously at one another. Yet, the feeling of unease which has brought Sky down refuses to abate.

The biggest of zhir Clan, a dully colored cerulean one, raises je’s great head. When je reaches out jer thought-touch to Sky’s with wispy, questioning tendrils, Sky reaches back. The dull buzz that comes from being around so many at once fades to the background as the two tie their thought-touches together. It takes only a moment, the two fitting themselves together with practiced ease—Sky is falling up, up, up, into the sky. Zhe is a drop in the ocean, swallowed up, pulled under in the vastness that is the je that makes up they, a ripple a bubble a gnat inconsequential—then zhe is zhe and je is je again. Separate but not apart.

Sky gives zhirself a mental shake, zhe will never get used to the sensations that came from first contact with Speaker, sparking amusement like faint rustling across the larger dragon’s thoughts. The elder dragon’s presence reminds Sky of the forests like oceans. Trees growing more gnarled, thicker, and tall like mountains until they block out even the barest hint of sun. Deep, quiet, slow, and unbearably vast.

And so very, very easy to get lost in.

Bright horizons—Speaker of Many Tongues—question? asks Sky.

Bright horizons—One Who Leaps from Cloud to Sky, Speaker murmurs in turn, thoughts dripping sedately into Sky’s. Buzz like scale mites—storm on horizon?

Feel uncertain—itchy as salt under scales, answers Sky, adding a turnabout questioning note to the end.

Speaker brushes over Sky’s nervous prickles with waves of calm.

See no harm—see no danger, assures Speaker.

Sky hums, thoughts buzzing with anxious doubt.

The hum echoes outside Sky’s head as the air abruptly fills with the weight of power. Of old, old magic. It’s covers everything, encompassing all of the Clan like warm sand. Sky feels full to bursting as home/protect/heart/safe wraps around zhir.

No harm comes, Speaker declares evenly, the magic lifting as je did.

There’s a knife edge glint to it, though. Fleeting but heavy with dangerous promise. Harm could come, that edge says, wrapped in all the certainty a millennia old dragon carries. And if it did, Speaker would erase it from existence.

One Who Leaps from Cloud to Sky believes Speaker of Many Tongues unconditionally.

Comforted, Sky allows zhirself to release the anxious rippling of zhir thoughts. Tension leeches from zhir as zhe pushes zhir thought-touch closer to Speaker’s. Close enough to feel the unwavering calm, let it wash away zhir remaining nerves, but not so close as to get lost in je again.

Thankful, says Sky, sincerity shining through their thought-touches like sun rays. Taking leave to fly—warm winds under wings—Speaker of Many Tongues.

Warm winds under wings—One Who Leaps from Cloud to Sky, replies Speaker.

There’s a hint of sleepiness to jers thoughts, that sags and seeps into Sky before they disentangle thought-touches. Sky shakes it off, neatly picking out little bits of thought-touch leftover from Speaker. Then, with three great flaps to regain the height zhe’d lost while coasting, zhe flew.

Speaker of Many Tongues has soothed Sky’s but that little nugget of something’s wrong something’s wrong something’s wrong still wriggles under zir sternum like a fat maggot. Some days, Speaker manages to silence that maggot. Some days, like now, je doesn’t, leaving a starved yet still malevolent parasite that would drive Sky’s mind in circles until zhe is right back where zhe started. On days like these, there’s not much zhe can do but tire zhirself out and hope tomorrow’s better.

Once alone with sea and sky, no thought-touches to be felt, Sky let’s loose. Twists, turns, barrel rolls; dead stops, climbs and drops; slow spirals, hovers and lazy patterns interspersed with straightforward runs of pure speed. On and on zhe goes, the exhilaration of zhir freedom and the increasing burn of well used muscle pushing back and back at the heavy thing in zhir chest. Lost in losing zhirself, Sky misses the starburst of excited thought-touch only to be wrenched back into the world by a nip at zhir wingtip.

Zhe snaps—literally—at the offender, zhir thought-touch spiking and spitting at the other’s in a way spoke volumes more than any roar.

The other’s thought-touch, that of a small dusk-orange welp, skitters away. The tiny thing lets out the most indignant yip.

Sky does roar, then. A thundering bellow that vibrates through the youngling’s chest as it physically skitters away. It glides along in silence several wingspans away, properly chastised, before edging ever warily closer. But by bit, until it’s invading zhir space once more. Its thought-touch needling insistently at Sky’s.

Sky lets out a whuff of irritation. Zhe dives abruptly towards the water, stopping when zhir claws skim the surface. The small one follows, clumsily but without pause, zipping under zir. Sky rumbles warningly and it zips out again, yapping pointedly. It’s thought-touch stretching and poking once more at Sky. Shaking zhir ridged head, Sky wonders who claims this little one and why they hadn’t taught it any manners.

A put upon sigh, Sky lets the young dragon’s thought-touch collide with zhir’s. Excitement crashes into Sky like battering ram, followed by so much blinding awe it nearly makes Sky dizzy. Their thought-touch is an incoherent mess. Images, thoughts, words, and emotions flinging by, unrecognizeable.

Another whuff and Sky sets to work on setting it right. Pushing, pulling, until everything slots into place putting it into sharp focus.

Bright Eyes—see flying—want flying! she shrieks, gleeful. Then, much more quietly, Flying together—teach—please?

Ah, the newest hatched of Still Waters Run Deep, Sky has heard of her—she’s unfortunately infamous for her clumsy mishaps. Her heart has always been in the right place, though, and she never lets her failures keep her down. It’s an admirable sort of determination.

Sky cranes zhir long neck to look at Bright Eyes. Wide, blue eyes return zhir searching gaze. Eager. Challenging, even.

The golden dragon snorts. Peppered sparks of amusement flickering in their thought-touch. It brings up an angry lash of embarrassment from Bright Eyes. Sky taps her on the head with a wingtip.

Peace, Sky says, amusement still curling through zhir. Prove worthy—follow—keep as shadow.

misc dragon things:

default pronoun for dragons is it/it’s. Bright Eyes pronouns change after they connect thought-touches bc those are her pronouns but Sky couldn’t know until they connected, hence the it beforehand.

winglets are younger dragons taken under an older dragon’s wing (lol). it’s sort of like an apprenticeship. dragons are actually raised communally, by three to five adult dragons usually, but sometimes the babies end up having a talent or interest their parents can’t help with. so, another adult will take them as a winglet to hell develop that skill. mentors are somewhat responsible for the care and well being of their winglets but not to the degree of the parents.

Clan is a group of dragons. not necessarily related by blood but they live together consistently and raise their dragonets together n such. Clans can b enormous or small depending on food/resources/space. some put names to their clan and some don’t. Cloud to Sky and Bright Eyes Clan is fairly large n has about 150-200 dragons at any time

Speaker of Many Tongues is an ancient fucking dragon lmao most dragons don’t live that long n this sort of makes jir the de facto leader but there’s no real leader of the clan (for this one at least). Je’s also part of the reason why the clan is so large, few dragons want to fuck with an ancient least of all an ancient’s clan.

She is like a magic apothecary. She is tan because she is always outside with freckles and super orange hair and green eyes. shes on the thinner side but muscular!
