Here you go, anon! This was fun to write XD
The woman appears out of the corner of Aariz's eye as he leans against the far side of the wall, seeking refuge from the blazing heat of the day. The sun is unkind today and Aariz thinks sourly that if the gods do exist, he will kill the bastard who has invoked Yel's wrath.
Dalia stands beside him in the shade, her eyes fluttering as she tries to stay alert. He can't help but find the sight endearing, and the thought sends heat to his cheeks. He finds everything about her endearing, nowadays, in a twist of fate that makes his stomach flip.
Then, there -- movement. Aariz's eyes flick to the woman who walks toward you, clad in fine silks and draped in decadent jewelry. She's approaching you swiftly, a fan raised to her face as she twirls a parasol in her other hand. Aariz raises an eyebrow, but she doesn't look threatening and he trusts in your ability besides.
"Hello, Madam," you say, "can I help you?"
A smile works its way across her face and there is something beneath it that sets Aariz on edge. Dalia shifts a little.
"It is a beautiful day, is it not?" she asks in return, not bothering to answer your question. You nod and her smile grows sultry. "Though not half as dazzling as you, I must say."
Aariz stiffens at once. Beside him, Dalia's entire body goes tense. You smile at the woman, bemused. "Thank you, ma'am," you say, "I don't know what I've done to earn the compliment, but I'll take it."
"Do you truly not know?" The woman blinks. "My dear, you are a marvel."
And that is when fury, bright and pulsing, lances through Aariz's body. He pushes himself off of the wall, feels Dalia make a similar movement. He glances at her and sees the grim set of her mouth, the glittering of malice in her eyes.
No one should dare to talk to you as the woman is, no one but Aariz himself and, he admits, perfect, lovely, dangerous Dalia. The three of you have yet to talk about what this is, but he knows one thing: he will not sit here and let someone else intrude upon it. He would never give up on you without a fight.
The woman goes to stroke your face and you allow her with a puzzled frown that makes some of Aariz's anger fade to exasperation. How are you such a fool, sometimes?
Dalia's hand catches her wrist before her skin can meet yours. She grips it tightly, and the woman lets out a startled huff of breath. "Keep your hands off them," she says cooly, "it's rude to touch people without permission, you know."
Then she lets the woman go and she's running off, her face pale.
"Dalia," you cry, "what are you doing?"
Aariz wraps a possessive arm around your shoulders and tugs you closer until he can feel your body heat through your clothes. The sun be damned, this is more important.
"Don't worry about it," he tells you lazily. "Dalia was just taking care of a pesky little problem.
Their eyes meet and the corner of Dalia's mouth twitches upwards. Aariz beams back.
