Hello I'm so sorry idk how to answer asks privately BUT yes I still like the book!!!!! It was a neurodivergent special interest of mine so it still lives in my heart. I was the same way you are for like a year, I was trying SOOOOOO hard to get ANYONE to talk to me about this book and fuckin no one did (edit: one friend let me ramble at him but it's Not The Same). I still think about it all the time even tho I recently was able to start reading other books (seriously my special interest in AART/ABFE made me incapable of reading anything else for several months omfg).

I want to reread the Carl duology actually so that I can make a proper criticism of it because while I loved it so so sos ososososososososo much, it felt like the author refused to make the final leap in logic when it comes to power structures. Hank Green is a capitalist so he wasn't about to call out capitalism itself as the issue that needs to be dismantled, instead treating it as something that can be reformed. It really does the characters and the message of the book a disservice and made the ending feel somewhat dystopian to me as a Socialist.

BUT!!!!!!! I still love the series so much holy shit, the way my brain exploded when I found out that it had GAY WOMEN and the way my brain exploded again over how relatable April May is........... like I hate to say "she's so me!" but she's so me... the ADHD of it all, the "hating carefully-crafted internet personas was part of my carefully-crafted internet persona" of it all, the INSANE GODDAMN TWISTS (grape jelly really fucking got me), the way the characters are genuinely unlikable at times just like real people, Carl inhabiting a fucking monkey and speaking through an Alexa, like........ obsessed, OBSESSED, it's such a good series. It actually inspired me to write an entire 200-page fanfiction and then I went off and made my own story with a couple of side characters inspired by the question "what if Peter Petrawicki had a midlife bisexual crisis"

What is an ask box fairy/Why fairies?

This ^ is an ask box fairy! A small scrunkly lil fairy with an almost human like build but with unique traits (like huge eyes and antenna)

A few random facts about the ask box fairy form:

-Though abf's have wings, they can do little more than hover for a few moments or cover large gaps at great speeds. (Or dive bomb Lege with hugs) They can't control their flight as easily with such tiny wings. So abf's either go at full speed or choose not to fly

-their antenna are almost never straight. They only straighten when greatly startled

-abf's don't do much talking. They can chime, which can be translated. sort of. But if they have something important to say or ask they'll write it down. They are very good at writing

-And of course, since Ask box fairies represent you all, there's really no characterization other than these few ideas. How they act or what they say depends on all of you :)

I know people typically draw human silhouettes (sometimes even eyeless) to represent "You" (the reader) but that on its own is a lot of work. Just drawing Legend takes long enough.

Though, other than it just being easier to draw, appearing in a drawing as a cute fairy is both adorable and fun! It adds a different feel to the mini comics I draw and I think it gives people more freedom to be creative with their asks

Peter who asks remus what books he's reading and remus who takes time to explain in depth about the plot or wtv, and Peter is awestruck cuz no one ever expects him to get things and remus simply explains it to him like theyre at the same level.

Peter who tells remus "you could be a teacher" the thousandth time remus helps him understand their history homework. Renus who reads to peter but then explains in his own words what the topic is about because peter has always found it too confusing to read- too many words on hundreds of pages that only made him feel lost but when moony explains it it suddenly has structure.

Peter and Remus who become very good friends, who talk a lot about books because remus always reads them to peter bit by bit and pauses to explain stuff or just to talk it out with peter. They spend a whole night once over some muggle novel peter got off his older sister, huddled under blankets and sitting on pillows on the floor by the fire. The other half of the marauders find them cuddled into each other the next morning, and when remus wakes up his voice is all hoarse and fucked uo from reading abf talking for so long.

Peter and Remus who dont share beds like james and sirius do whenever sirius has nightamres or needs to talk, but who instead fall asleep on the bedroom floor, sitting across from each other.

Peter and Remus who get way too comfortable around each other, but are still so shy and distanced. Peter and Remus who constantly look at each other too long, catch each other looking and continue anyway.

Remus who figures Peter out first- who realises that his friends jealousy of janes and lily went deeper than petty best friend feelings. Remus who held peter through the times when his heart hurt too much, *wanted* too much for the other boy to see him more than a friend.

Peter who gradually shuts himself off, who stops asking about remus' books, stops leaving remus chocolates and stops talking and remus who worries and worries and only gets pushed away more my peter. Remus who has known for a small while that he feels more for peter, but he keeps quiet because he knows peter wont feel the same way. Knows that peter is too preoccupied with his feelings for james.

And Peter who becomes so angry at himself (internalised homophobia moment) and expects remus to support him in this and remus just cant because remus loves him

2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?

Not easy at all. She has a very specific sense of humor that is hard to tickle for most. She thinks Bethany, Isabela, Fenris and Merrill are funny. Huge blow to Varric who tries to be funny a lot

6. Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?

Her stand on this probably depends on like the day but usually it is "Laws are flexible if you pretend they're not there"

8. What were they told to stop/start doing most often as a child

Malcolm used to be pretty tough on her, she was always told to stop slouching, stop slacking off, stand straighter and focus. Any second of rest and god forbid fun was time Bethany could get taken by Templars

12. How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach?

Depends on the spot, if it's on her back she rubs her back against a wall/tree/etc like a bear would do. If there are no good rub-able surfaces, Merrill or Fenris have to scratch it.

15. How do they speak? Is what they say usually thought of on the spot, or do they rehearse it in their mind first?

Everything she says is thought of in the moment, she's blunt and only think things like apologies through first. But regular conversation? PFft. Hear her unfiltered thoughts boy

16. What makes their stomach turn?

Fire. Which, was great, with fire-based Bethany. No but due to what she experienced during Ostagar, the burning she got from it, fire is something she cannot stand in large amounts. The fireplace and candles are… fine. But anything outside of that, no no.

17. Are they easily embarrassed?

Magda isn’t easily embarrassed at all, a lot of things that happen to her that could be considered embarrassing she doesn’t give a fuck about at all. She’s chill like that

18. What embarrasses them?

When Leandra tries to show her off/set her up with another noble. Like. “Oh my daughter is the strongest warrior in Hightown, she fights bandits every day to keep the streets clean blah blah blah” and it makes her go full red

20. If they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do so?

Familial love is the warmth of home after a day in the rain, a cup of tea after work, it’s warm and simple and seemingly always there.

Platonic love is similar to familial love and usually is there more often than it. Companionship between friends keeps her going a lot more often than her family does (if not counting beth)

Romantic love is like a storm. It is the most beautiful thing to witness and be in, yet lighting can strike right at the heart. Unpredictable and deadly, yet so, so beautiful.

21. Why do they get up in the morning? 

To do better than the day before.

22. How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)? 

Magda becomes so so so so possessive. Like if Merrill ever gets flirted with by some random person she is walking over and just hugging her from behind muttering things like “Hello, my love. Did I tell you how much I love you being mine?” all the while staring daggers at whoever DARED to approach her loved one with such intentions

25.  What are their thoughts on marriage? 

Used by nobles for power

27.  What causes them to feel dread? 

Ironically, the idea of being married. Not because she opposes the idea of being with someone in a committed relationship for a long period of time, but the way it traps her with rules. Marriage is a complex contract that she doesn’t wish to do anything with, the thought of it making her dreadful.

31. Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke?  

“Y’know what young spiders are called? Arach-kids.”

No she’s overworked always and is going to continue doing this until DAI

She’s supportive!!! She enjoys her yapper friends and all their interests!!!! ALL THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS MEAN EVERYTHING TO HER

38. What memory do they revisit the most often? 

Pranking Templars with Beth and Carver when she was 15 and they were 10, setting their clothes on fire with both magic-fire and normal fire. It was the most fun they had without Malcolm reprimanding them.

42. How badly do they want to reach their end goal? 

SO so bad. At some point she doesn't even know what her goal is, it used to be to let Bethany live a hopeful, peaceful life. Then it became protecting Kirkwall. Then she doesn't know anymore, she just needs to succeed. She can't rest until she succeeds.

like. i was talking about the ultimate da experiences (for me) few months back and i mentioned red female hawke being on that list. red female hawke is still so good
