Damita Menezes at NewsNation:
(NewsNation) — A man who allegedly pointed an AK-47-style rifle through the fence at Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach on Sunday, while the former president was golfing nearby, has been taken into custody, authorities say. The man, identified to NewsNation by a law enforcement source as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, is described as a white male. He is believed to be the suspect who was crouched in bushes near the golf club perimeter, armed with a weapon equipped with a scope. Two backpacks and a Go-Pro camera were also found with the firearm near the perimeter from which the suspect had fled. Local authorities said the gunman was about 400 yards to 500 yards away from Trump. Routh was convicted in 2002 of possessing a weapon of mass destruction, according to online North Carolina Department of Adult Correction records.
Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg told NewsNation that the suspect was not previously on local law enforcement’s radar. Routh, who reportedly has ties to North Carolina and Hawaii, had made “bizarre” social media posts about Ukraine before the incident. Federal authorities have taken over the case, with Aronberg’s office standing down. The state attorney anticipates Routh will face charges related to domestic terrorism and weapons offenses, though specific charges have not been announced. At approximately 1:30 p.m. local time, authorities received a call reporting shots fired at the golf course where Trump was playing a round of golf. A witness told police the suspect fled the scene in a black Nissan and provided investigators with photos of the suspect’s license plate. Using that photo, authorities say they put out a “a very urgent BOLO (Be On the Lookout) for the suspect’s vehicle and plates. [...]
Routh’s social media posts
Social media posts allegedly belonging to Routh indicate he was a believer in COVID-19 conspiracy theories, and he had posted that he had voted for Trump in 2016 but was disappointed with him after the fact, expressing support for Tulsi Gabbard in various posts. Records show Routh moved in 2018 to Kaaawa, Hawaii, where he and his son operated a company building sheds, according to an archived version of the webpage for the business.
In June 2020, he made a post on X directed at then-President Trump to say he would win reelection if he issued an executive order for the Justice Department to prosecute police misconduct. However, in recent years, his posts suggest he soured on Trump, and he expressed support for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. In July, following the assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania, Routh urged Biden and Harris to visit those wounded in the shooting at the hospital and to attend the funeral of a former fire chief killed at the rally. Voter records show he registered as an unaffiliated voter in North Carolina in 2012, most recently voting in person during the state’s Democratic Party primary in March 2024. Federal campaign finance records show Routh made 19 small political donations totaling $140 since 2019 using his Hawaii address to ActBlue, a political action committee that supports Democratic candidates.
Routh’s Ukrainian ties
The New York Times said it interviewed him for a feature on pro-Ukrainian foreign fighters last year. The Times said Routh traveled to Ukraine in 2022 to recruit ex-Afghan soldiers who fled the Taliban to fight for the embattled nation. Routh frequently posted on social media about the war in Ukraine and had a website where he sought to raise money and recruit volunteers to go to Kyiv to join the fight against the Russian invasion.
The 2nd Trump assassination attempt shooter was Ryan Wesley Routh.
Routh has expressed political views across the spectrum, such as COVID conspiracies, support for Ukraine and Taiwan, and backing of Donald Trump in 2016 before turning against him in favor of Tulsi Gabbard in 2020 and this year, a Vivek Ramaswamy/Nikki Haley unity ticket.

last time i bought 3 idolm@ster cds and janet jackson's "the velvet rope" album and i wanted to spend more time at bookoff but i just visited on a whim and it was my first time there and i had other things to do that day so it was nice to visit again. i think my only frustration is the way things are organized at that store especially in regards to the anisong (like im@s, etc.) section. i may not give a fuck about im@s anymore but i did want to stop by and see if they had any of the early stuff like all st@rs but alas... they did not... they had sidem though this time i was shocked but they didnt have my man (seiji shingen) so flop. but thats for another tumblr post, overall its worth the visit if you want to find some old music. i wish i found kylie minogue albums and sade albums le sigh
then i stopped by my favorite restaurant and had the most decadent dumplings and buns... i also had a good soup like yaaay. i was kinda hot as freak eating at a park and thankfully i found a spot where there was not much people around so that was good. i also stopped by kinokuniya to see if they had certain art books (not like books from illustrators like books that teaches about certain concepts like coloring, lighting, etc.) but they didn't have the books i had in mind either le sigh but it was still nice to stop by. still no utena merch either WHY WHY WHY
anyways i got drinks from this other place as a treat and now............We Relax....... i'm really happy about the CD finds though and i wish they had more donna summer stuff it was really only like the collections and i feel like if i was gonna get any of them the anthology made most sense. also very shocked to find exodus by utada hikaru there like whoa
happy birthday to me again and thanks for reading :3

"How do you use the bathroom?" You giggled.
Djarin ignored the question.
"Do you have to use the bathroom?"
He tried not to sigh.
You giggled again.
Grogu cooed.
Damita leaned forward on the bench, "Do you get sweaty? Mama says Daddy never got sweaty. Are you sweaty?"
He watched you walk off the ship, your head shaking side to side as your shoulders trembled and he wanted to glares HARD at you but instead he looked down at Grogu who was petting Kayosa and smiling up at his friend.
Damita grinned, teeth missing, multicolored eyes shimmering, "How long have you worn the armor?"
"Since I was about thirteen." He motioned behind her towards the open hull, "Tour over."
"Does Grogu have to wear armor one day?"
Grogu looked up at Djarin.
"If he so chooses."
Damita seemed to accept that with a well poised knock her her head then a beaming smile broke free, "What about Grogu's Mata?m
Djarin almost choked on his tongue.
"What?"
The little girl smiled wider, "Galaxy! Do they have armor?"
No, he thought, the other thing.
Grogu walked with his friend out of the ship, across the grass leading Kayosa and Damita to the edge of the stream.
"No, Gal doesn't have to wear armor."
"Oh." The little girl nodded, "Makes sense. Their eyes are too pretty."
He had to agree with that one.
"Yeah." He felt his cheeks flush, "They are."

thinking how I hadn't had any gender dysphoria for a bit, and then I went to Mexico and everyone was like "señorita", "muchacha", "mija", "damita"... it's strange because part of me missed it, it makes home, home. I also haven't explained anything to my family about being non-binary. I feel like a double agent. In the US I have my chosen name, my pronouns, my life I've slowly built. And then I go "home (past tense)" and I contribute to my own misgendering because of how dang gendered my mother tongue is, my birth name coming out of the mouth of my loved ones who don't fully know me. It feels cozy, it feels strange. It feels like masking. When are you moving back. Forks are male, spoons are female. Sporks are qué es eso.

Action January II: Captain Blood (1935)
Tumblr media
Part Two: A Colorful Fragment in a Drab World
When you think of the Golden Age of Hollywood, it's hard to get more notable than Errol Leslie Thomson Flynn at the height of his career. One of the most prominent leading men of the time period, succeeding Douglas Fairbanks and alongside Clark Gable, he was a mountebank of talent and action. At least...that was a public image of his. The actual Errol Flynn? Genuinely a drunken disease-ridden criminal who maybe exemplifies the idea of dividing the art from the artist. 'Cause, uh...wow. Not a good person, was Flynn.
If you do not care about Errol Flynn, skip to the break; I'll put my five-point review down there so time isn't wasted. I just really want to talk about Errol Flynn. Ready? OK.
Tumblr media
Born in Hobart, Tasmania on June 20, 1909, Errol Flynn grew up in a middle class household. His father was a biology professor, while his mother was...well, in his autobiography, Flynn would say that she had "an itch to live - perhaps too much like my own." And given what we know about Errol's "itches", that's saying something. There's some speculation that she was sleeping with a local movie theater manager, leading to Flynn hanging out there often and watching a lot of movies. Is that true? Well, Flynn is a...somewhat unreliable narrator, so take his statements with a grain of salt. He also claimed that he and his mother were descended from some of the soldiers that participated in the famous mutiny on The Bounty, but that's probably not true. However, keep that factoid in mind for later.
Early life was complicated for Flynn, and bad habits emerged early. By the time he was 17, he'd been expelled from 4 schools for inappropriate acts (of violent and sexual natures); he'd joined a local gang; he'd already started his collection of sexually-transmitted diseases with gonorrhea (and he was, uh, quite the collector); and he was working in New Guinea. In New Guinea, he...um...
Tumblr media
OK, look here's what you gotta know about Flynn: dude is nasty, in a lot of ways. Most of those ways are, unfortunately, sexual in nature. Since I'd like to be sensitive to the sensibilities of readers, I won't go into every nitty gritty detail. So, starting with his New Guinea adventures, let's just say that he killed a number of native people during colonization efforts, and then did that other classic thing that colonizers have done, historically. You know, that thing that goes with pillaging?
And to be clear, Flynn wasn't ashamed of this. In his autobiography, My Wicked, Wicked Ways, he describes one of the native New Guineans he encounters in...very unfortunate detail. Flynn was a nasty kid, before and after his acting career began. Speaking of which, while he was working in Australia (after fleeing from New Guinea for murder, etc.), he was spotted by director Charles Chauvel, and was offered to be in a film about the mutiny on the Bounty. Crazy coincidence, huh? Errol accepted, and that was his first film, In the Wake of the Bounty, in 1933. It's now disappeared into obscurity, but that was the beginning.
Tumblr media
Flynn's career began mostly in the UK, where he acted as extras while getting professional training. Then he threw a stage manager down a flight of stairs and was fired from his repertory company. Because that's Errol Flynn, apparently. He worked on a few more films, married actress Lili Damita, and eventually got the attention of Hollywood. After a couple of small roles, Michael Curtiz tapped him as a 4th choice for his new movie, Captain Blood. Not only was this the first film with Curtiz and Olivia de Havilland (19 at the time), but it was a smash hit. Flynn was a star, the new Douglas Fairbanks!
1936: he works with Curtiz and Olivia again in The Charge of the Light Brigade. 1937: A dramatic role in Green Light, then another swashbuckler in The Prince and the Pauper, a melodrama in Another Dawn, and a comedy in The Perfect Specimen (with Curtiz again), all before acting as a war correspondent during the Spanish Civil War. And then, finally, in 1938, he reunites with Curtiz, Havilland, and Basil Rathbone in my favorite of his films: The Adventures of Robin Hood. And if Flynn was famous before, then that movie really did it.
Tumblr media
In the meantime, he gets married to actress Lili Damita in 1935, and this would be the first of 3 marriages. And lemme tell you, it would end tragically for Flynn, hilariously for everybody else. From 1935 to 1939, Flynn's career would take off, and he would work with Curtiz and Havilland a few more times, but things would start to change at this point. See, starting all the way back in The Charge of the Light Brigade, Curtiz and Flynn had regular disagreements. In that film, 25 horses actually died under Curtiz' direction, and the animal-loving Flynn got into a legit fist-fight with his director. And this was the second of seven collaborations together. The two hated each other, but they knew good filmmaking when they saw it. Curtiz' career, by the way, includes Casablanca, just so you know what caliber of director we're talking about.
Flynn's career continued, as did his contentious nature. The Sea Hawk in 1940 continued his career climb, as World War II was in full swing. At the same time, he got badly slapped by co-star Bette Davis (yes, THAT Bette Davis) in the face in The Privates Lives of Elizabeth and Essex during an argument in a scene, which he wrote off as "unrequited romantic interest" (ugh); he had more arguments with Curtiz on Virginia City in 1940, and tried to get him off his own picture; and he co-starred with no-name actor Ronald Reagan in Santa Fe Trail, which is probably the only notable thing that dude ever did.
Tumblr media
And this, of course, is when the health problems and drinking started. He'd contracted malaria when he was younger in New Guinea, which damaged his heart significantly. And oh, God, the drinking. Flynn was a notorious womanizing, chain-smoking drunk, especially throughout the 1940s. He'd had affairs with everybody (a habit so famous, it's the origin for the phrase "in like Flynn"), and would regularly get into physical fights with everyone else. In the process, he would greatly expand his collection of diseases. By 1942, he had chronic tuberculosis, recurrent malaria, gonorrhea, syphillis, and a host of unrecorded STDs. This, combined with heart damage and back pain, made him ineligible for service during World War II, which had many believing he was a draft dodger (since studios didn't want word of their big star having that many STDs). And that's not all!
See, Lili's getting sick of the whole "constant cheating and STD" thing, so she files for divorce. Said divorce had insane conditions by today's standards, and would essentially had Lili rolling in Errol's money FOR LIFE, while leaving Errol with far less money for the rest of his days. How could this get worse? Easy; he was being sued for statutory r*pe that year as well, and nearly resulted in a 25-year prison sentence. He was acquitted, because Hollywood's always been bullshit, but his reputation was...well, frankly, it was fucked. And at this point, Flynn was only 33 years old. Jesus Christ.
Tumblr media
After this, Flynn would never fully recover. Oh, he was still in movies, but his drinking and partying continued, and his reputation somehow got even worse. He would show up blasted to sets, ending his relationships with many directors. His appearance started taking a nosedive due to his health and behaviors. He got married again, in 1943 to Nora Eddington, somehow, but Nora later regretted that marriage. Scandals continued, like the time newspapers found out he'd installed one-way mirrors in his mansion's bathrooms in order to look at his female guests secretly (ew. EW.), and he added hepatitis to his collection of diseases.
Marriage #3 comes along in 1950, and Flynn moves to Europe in 1954 for his films. He's there for a few years, until finally getting a call back in 1957 to star in an adaptation of Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. Flynn idolized Hemingway, and actually wanted to be an author just like him. Might have accomplished it, if not for the EVERYTHING ELSE he was doing. Still, he accepted the role, which cast him as a pathetic drunk has-been, past his years and prime. What I'm trying to say is, he crushed it. Hard.
Tumblr media
Flynn's back, baby! And now, he's being typecast as a drunk. Which, again, is what he was at this point. Also, I should clarify, alcoholism is absolutely a disease, and my issues with Flynn have nothing to do with the fact that he was an alcoholic. However, he was constantly drunk, that's just a fact. His success in The Sun Also Rises revitalized his career in the late 1950s, and things were looking good. He even started up his old journalism ambitions when he traveled to Cuba during Castro's revolution, and was the only journalist there when Castro won.
In 1959, though, Flynn's financial difficulties had become too much, even with his career rebirth. He went to Canada to sell a yacht to a guy, then flew back to Los Angeles on October 14. In the process, his back and legs started acting up. Not unusual for him. The doctor in LA noted that Flynn could barely walk up the stairs, then gave him some Demerol, a massage, and good conversation. Flynn said he "felt ever so much better", and the doctor left. A 17-year-old girl that had been traveling with him (yeah, that sounds horrible) went in to check on him 20 minutes later.
Tumblr media
Errol Flynn died on October 14, 1959, at the age of 50. His cause of death was found as a heart attack from coronary thrombosis, atherosclerosis, and severe cirrhosis of the liver, amongst the STDs that plagued him his entire life. Flynn was buried with six bottles of his favorite whiskey at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California. He had once said he hated this place, and never wanted to be buried there, so you gotta imagine that his current marriage wasn't going great either. Jesus.
But even after he died, Flynn's legacy continued to degrade. His autobiography came out, which didn't really help him image much. His work as a war correspondent was put into question as illegitimate, and thought to be used only to promote his films. That 17 year old that discovered his death revealed that yes, that sentence was as creepy as it sounded, and Flynn never learned his FUCKING LESSION. He was also possibly outed as bisexual, which is obviously fine (assuming the bisexual community wants to claim this asshole at all), and I only point this out to say that he was described as "super-straight" by Iron Eyes Cody. And who's Iron Eyes Cody? Trust me. Look him up. You don't wanna trust a goddamn word that dude said.
Tumblr media
So, with all of that bullshit said and finally done...Errol Flynn was still an excellent actor. Yeah, I honestly mean that. IN fact, I'll elaborate in a minute here in the review below. So, read on if you're interested in that. And if not, honestly, watch Captain Blood and The Adventures of Robin Hood yourself, and make your own opinions. Just saying, he could act. Separate the art from the artist, people.

Cast and Acting: 9/10
Just to get our leading man out of the way, Errol Flynn is fantastic in this movie. I mean it; for a guy who'd barely been in movies, and for this being his first leading role, he knocks it out of the park. Suave and debonair, defiant and headstrong when he needs to be, and someone you're charmed by as much as the characters on screen are. Plus, the swashbuckling is fun to watch, and credit should go to Flynn for some of that. Genuinely a star in the making; just forget all that other stuff from above, OK?
And everybody else? Olivia de Havilland, who's only 18 during filming, by the way, is also great in this movie. And again, this is one of her first films. Crazy, huh? Her role is uncomplicated, but she plays it very well! Basil Rathbone isn't in here for long, but he's a scene-stealer...partially because his French accent feels forced, and he's maybe a little over the top. Still, extremely fun to watch. Same could be said for Lionel Atwill, although he sort-of just drops off in the middle of the picture, when he could've been a real commanding antagonist. Missed opportunity, that one. As for the pirate crew, like Ross Alexander and Guy Kibbee, they're not bad! Meant in some cases to be comic relief, which is done well, but also portrayed as a loyal and faithful crew. Throw all of these performances together, and you get my final score. Solid all around, with a little scenery-chewing here and there.
Tumblr media
Plot and Writing: 8/10
Honestly, this is both a standard swashbuckling plot (man of high-standing gets plunged into low-standing, then fights his way back to prowess via sword and fisticuffs), but also very different in some ways. It's based off of a novel by Rafael Sabatini, and certainly has a memorable and easy to describe story. However...and this is a soft however...Blood's gonna win. It's not the least predictable plot in the world, since you know Blood's gonna win and get the girl in the end. It also has a surprisingly bloodless ending, all things considered. Yeah, I know there's the battle with the French in the end there, but only one named cast member (Basil Rathbone) actually dies. It's fun to watch and easy to recall, but...kinda toothless in the end. Also, Blood is a bit of a Gary Stu most of the time, which isn't the best character work you can do.
Writing by Casey Robinson, though, is still fantastic. This is a SOLID adaptation of the book, from what I can tell, and Robinson manages to spice up a standard plot with some entertaining and engaging writing throughout. Honestly, this is a fun movie, and the writing helps with that quite a bit. Even got the Oscar nomination that year for Best Screenplay, but lost to The Informer. In fact, it technically wasn't officially nominated by the committee, but was instead nominated by write-in. That is how popular this film's writing was.
Tumblr media
Direction and Cinematography: 9/10
Michael Curtiz, frankly, is a legend. And sure, I can't say this is a groundbreaking film in terms of direction in some ways, but good goddamn, does Curtiz still do an excellent job. This is especially notable when looking at the action scenes, like the beach swordfight, or the siege on the French ships (as seen in the GIF below). Seriously, though, this is a great-looking film, both due to legendary director and legendary cinematographers Ernest Haller and Hal Mohr. The former is best known for Gone With the Wind (I hate that movie, but it's admittedly gorgeously shot), while the latter is known for The Phantom of the Opera and...The Jazz Singer. Ooh. Yikes. Moving on!
Tumblr media
Production and Set Design: 9/10
Again, kind of standard fare for the time period in some ways, but still a great looking production! You feel like you're on a ship or tropical island for most of the film, despite the entire film being made in California. That ending scene with the French ships? 2,500 extras were in that sequence, making it one of the biggest films ever made at that time. This is impressive production, including the prop work and...well, OK, one problem. The costumes are mildly anachronistic. It's nothing crazy, but keep in mind that this film is meant to take place in the 1650s. With that in mind, this feels far more like a film from the 1800s instead. This is a minor nitpick, but a nitpick nonetheless. Frankly, I've really had to try and find flaws with some of this stuff, because this film is genuinely great.
Tumblr media
Music and Editing: 9/10
Music here is by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, another film legend and notable composer. His career very much followed Errol Flynn, as this was his first huge picture (not counting 1933's A Midsummer Night's Dream), and he would also score for The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Sea Hawk, and The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex. This booming brass score is your stereotypical swashbuckler tune, meaning that Korngold helped create that stereotype in the first place. It's iconic, it's memorable, and it makes for solid background in a action scene. Even did that thing where the sword-clashes are timed with music sometimes! Again, classic.
George Amy is our editor for this picture, and he's a legend in his own right. A powerhouse for Warner Brothers, Amy was a favorite of Michael Curtiz, and ended up editing the majority of his films (but not Casablanca, funnily enough). He definitely does well here, although I felt like one or two sequences could use a little trim here and there. Nothing really felt unnecessary, but there could have been a little something different in the near-mutiny sequence, for example. That sequence is maybe the weirdest in the film for me, as Blood sort-of gaslights the crew into following him into certain fucking death. Again, kind of a nitpick for me, but it did affect how I saw Blood, and maybe could've been changed to adjust the pacing of the scene.
Tumblr media
Verdict: 88%
Pretty sure I've hurt some critic's feelings with that number, so I feel the need to clarify something: this movie's goddamn great. It's the progenitor of the swashbuckling genre for a reason, after all. This is a crazy fun film, but I won't give it an excuse because it's a classic. But would I watch this movie again? Absolutely. Like I said, a hell of a lot of fun.
Time for another classic action-adventure movie to continue the classics train, but let's jump forward a decade for this one, huh? Post World War II, classic director, and a precursor to the true action genre. And as always, one that's been on my list for a long time.

This installation view of "Spinner Forest" (2016) is reproduced from 'Nick Cave: Forothermore,' the catalog to the exhibition opening today @guggenheim — en route from it's major debut @mcachicago Copublished by @delmonico_books @sirsargent writes: "In both construction and material play, Cave draws on a myriad of influences and style icons across the African diaspora. He has referenced the traditional dress of Mardi Gras Indians, the ceremonial costumes of African tribes, and the spectacle and elegance seen on Black models on the runways of Eunice Johnson’s Ebony Fashion Fair. The instructive funk of 'Soul Train,' the psychedelic pageantry of Parliament Funkadelic, and the afrofuturistic look of the girl group Labelle have also inspired an aesthetic universe that expands Cave’s practice beyond the wearable garment into the environment itself. In works such as Cave’s large-scale beaded tapestries and ongoing 'Spinner Forest' installations (2016–ongoing), we find the artist interested in recapturing the liberatory glow of the late-1970s Chicago house scene, where a sexual and sartorial hedonism informed a space of release in which 'inhibitions, the status quo, and coats were kept off the dance floor, where, honey, shit turned up.' Fashioning those memories into Soundsuits, paintings, performances, and installations is for Cave a way to reclaim a history of Black style as a reflection of 'Black futurism,' which is as much about the creation of alternative spaces of belonging as it is the identification of new attitudes and identities of empowerment within which to inhabit." IMAGE CREDIT: Spinner Forest, 2016. Thank you for the ask, chickadee!
💌 Do they send naughty letters? What’s in them?
OCs who do, in order of frequency: Hela Lavellan, Ronan Trevelyan, Sekmet Adaar, Ciembe Mahariel, and Fenrir Lavellan.
OCs who do not, for various reasons: Cathal Tabris, Damita Surana, Kitty Hawke, Catheryne Cousland, and Astrid Cadash.
Hela’s letter (or really just notes) are sometimes crude and full of innuendo. Sera responds in kind. With illustrations. They may or may not make a point to ‘hide’ some where Solas and Vivienne could find them, until they both apologize for disapproving of their relationship.
Ronan Trevelyan quickly found out that Cassandra loved romantic letters, that are a bit spicy. A few erotic poetic lines here and there, taken from books he read or lines he wrote himself. After the first one, Cassandra refused to let Leliana screen her mail from Ronan, which Leli definitely teased her about, though of course she followed her wishes.
Sekmet Adaar sends letters to Josephine that are sweet, that are factual, and hell yes, in code (that Josie taught her), she outlines all the things she wants to do when they are reunited. Josie definitely blushes when she reads them and Leli teases her for it. (Though really, it is the downright filthy things Josie sends Sekmet that are truly surprising, she has a way with words…)
Ciembe Mahariel, during her time in Amaranthine, sent and received several naughty letters to and from Zevran. All in Antivan. In the few that they sent, they ended up competing to see who could send the most obscene letter. Zev won, but Ciembe didn’t mind, because she kept it and had him keep the promises he made in the letter.
Fenrir Lavellan doesn’t send that many letters to Dorian. They have the crystal, after all, or are together. But in those few times when Dorian was gone, Fenrir took great pleasure in including euphemisms and innuendo in his letters to his love, after the several pages of book and magic discussion, of course, because they are both huge nerds.

Hello, friend! @daydreamingdragonage here, I was wondering what Lyna would think of my OC, Damita Surana.
suranas are always good in lyna’s book!!! she loves the elf + mage combo and just how much power comes with it--as with everyone who is non dalish, lyna would at first be very reserved though.
i think they could bond really well over their love of learning and seeking knowledge, too! lyna would be over the moon if damita shared anything related to elves with her.
there would probably be tension too though! lyna is very set in her ways and unbending and sees in b/w--she’s right, people who disagree with her are wrong, obviously--and doesn’t like to see things in new ways, so i think damita’s openmindedness (which is wonderful) could also rub lyna in the wrong way

Atlas Rising
The festivities are marvelous, crowds of people as far as the eye can see. The statue of Atlas The Carrier lifting his hands to the sky in the middle of the square. It was everything you’d said it’d be, and Djarin already wanted to go home.
Grogu loved it.
The kid also loved the coveralls you made for him. The moss green highlighting the darkness of his eyes. He kept waving his sleeve to show off his mudhorn sigil and Djarin had to admit that was his favorite part, too.
Djarin himself had two moss green wraps around his arms, one with silver lining the hems to match Grogu and the other with purple to match yours.
He grumbled when you’d shown him the stitching, waving it in front of his helmet. He’d agreed to wear them, but refused to be excited about it. Djarin didn’t want your ego to grow anymore than it already had.
(He’d never admit it made him happy. You looked like a family.)
The first thing Grogu noticed was the food stands — his hands reaching out towards the assortments. There were more than he’d ever seen here before, all dressed up to be eye drawing. Some stands boasted fire fried food with sweet sugars, others meats, spices, and rubs. A few had simple sweets stacked high on the tables; made up of beautiful designs and colorful candies.
It took both of you distracting him to keep the food on the tables. Didn’t stop the kid from raising a hand every time you turned away.
He sighed when a cake made its way toward him. Djarin turned Grogu around, ignoring the affronted noise his son made.
“Lucky Green look.” You pointed towards a group of dancers. They all wore brightly colored garments. Their feet were bare and bells hung around their ankles. As they moved, silks of different colors spun with them. It created a sea of colors, moving amongst one another, green flowing into blue as it blended with purple. Grogu’s eyes were wide, mouth open in awe.
As a trio, you moved closer, your body follow the sound of the music. When you lifted your arms in the air, spinning around and around, Djarin watched the bracelet he’d gifted you. It wrapped around your wrist, down to your forearm in a band of silver and purple. The small stones that adorning it captured the lights.
A year.
It’s been a year.
Earlier you’d made breakfast with a soft smile painting your lips. You’d hummed under your breath as you slid bowls in front of them. As Djarin had grabbed him to move towards his room, you’d caught his wrist.
“Let Grogu finish, then I’ll take him outside. I don’t want you seeing your garments yet.” It’d had him flushing even as agreed.
He glanced down at the wraps once more than back up at you.
You moved like water in the stream.
“Look at them.” He held Grogu higher.
You moved between the dancers, laughing, heads thrown back with joy. Some dancers reached for you, your hands slipping together to move around the circle.
Grogu cooed his hands waving along with the music and Djarin felt his cheeks ache with a smile.
When the music changed and the dancers slowed, you came back to them. Your eyes were electric, alive, bursting with stars.
You laughed, “That felt wonderful.”
Grogu reached for you seamlessly, moving from Djarin’s arms to yours. He watched his son touch your arm, fingers slipping beneath the bracelet.
“This and my little friend are the best gifts you could have ever given me.” You were beaming.
Djarin tilted his head. “You said that about the plants we put along the house.”
“Different kinds of gifts bring different kinds of joy, Din Djarin. Come,” You reached for his hand, “I saw raoguls Grogu could ride.”
Through the crowds, you dragged him, bouncing from one activity to the other. Grogu squealed as he rode the large mammals, cheered when you put him on a hover ride with other kids.
Damita and her mother and step-father found them when they stopped for food. Djarin’s never met Damita’s step-father and wasn’t expecting to meet a Keshiri.
First time for everything.
They shook hands, standing beside each other as Mita and Grogu slurped lava slime and showed off their prizes.
(A large lava glow light and inflatable kitten for Damita and a row of star stickers with a frog inflatable for Grogu.)
Mita had orange and red ribbon braided into her hair. It looked like fire when she shook her head. Grogu stroked the strands with awe. He showed off his new clothing, twirling for his friend to see the whole getup.
“Told you.” You nudged Djarin’s shoulder.
He rolled his eyes, turning his head towards you to show his annoyance.
You grabbed his hand, squeezing it, “Happy Anniversary, Din Djarin”
Djarin held your hand tighter, pulling you closer until you rested against his side. His chest swelled with happiness as he took in his small clan.
This is his family.
His.
Grogu played with the young girl, waving their inflatable in the air and laughing. You leaned into him, humming along with the music, your eyes closed.
He can’t comprehend how he’d gotten this lucky.
When Damita’s stepfather offered to take the children to a painting booth, Djarin hesitated, then thought about spending time with you.
“They’ll be fine.” You assured him.
He agreed, making it clear to meet them at the center square when they’re finished.
“Proud papa.” You poke at him.
Djarin grabs your hand and holds onto it once more. His fingers are larger than yours, bulky with the gloves on. He remembers the feel of your skin against him in his dream — how warm you felt. He could hold your hand, curl your fingers with his and never let go.
He knew you’d let him.
“Oh, listen!” You bounce, pulling him closer to the music, “Listen to this! The way it surrounds you Come here.” It’s not a fast song, not slow enough either. It moved through the middle, wrapping around the crowd and drawing couplings together.
Djarin knew what you were about to do the second you lifted onto your tiptoes.
“Dance with me, My Mandalorian.”
He danced.
It was clumsy, his feet missing steps, but he held steady and moved with you. After a few turns, you shed your sandals and climbed onto his feet, the pressure holding him down.
“For someone who is always in control.” Your voice dropped in a mimic of his, “You are terrible at dancing.”
“What part of my life says I’m in control?”
“I was giving you the benefit of the doubt, Din Djarin.”
With that, you rested your head on his shoulder, letting him step side to side as people crowded the space.
If someone had told him ten years ago, he’d be dancing in the square of Navarro. His arms around a force sensitive stranger while his force wielding son got his face painted. He’d asked how much Flameout you’d been drinking.
He glances around out of habit. Many people have joined the festivities. Colors of all kinds created a rainbow across the crowd. Children ran free as parents followed with smiles. Small babies looked around with wide, baffled eyes.
One older couple sat at a table with a plate of hardened jellies between them. One old man was wiping the sugar off before handing them to his partner. The other man would smile, bring it to his lips and suck the flavor into his mouth.
A few guards stood around the perimeter, mingling with the others. A few Droids manned booths, cleaned tables, and offered help with older adults. He’s amazed at how lively everything was.
A movement out of the corner of his visor snapped his head to the left. You pulled back, looking in the same direction as a stranger moved closer.
You stepped off his feet.
“Gal-”
“Mr. Grogu’s Dad! Look!” Mita came barreling towards them. Grogu ran behind her. They painted her face with colored swirls. She had wings on either side of her eyes and little stones along the bridge of her nose.
He nodded, “It’s good.”
“Look!” She turned to Grogu.
Djarin balked beneath his helmet.
Grogu had a painted Mandalorian helmet covering his face. They lined his eyes with black, still wide and bright. They’d circled his ears, covering his head with silver paint and shadowed his cheeks with dark green.
He’d look a little ridiculous, comical even, but he was smiling wide and looked happy.
“Well, then.” Djarin kneeled down. “That must have taken time.”
“We showed xim a sticker of yours! Grogu wouldn’t get anything else.” He half believed that. Grogu loved when you painted yellow flowers on his cheeks and refused to budge until you did.
Mita’s stepfather came up behind them and scooped the young girl into his arms, “Come on, Meet, Mama is waiting.” He nodded at Djarin, “Thank you. She loved seeing him.”
“Of course.”
Damita waved goodbye excitedly. Grogu waved back, cooing as they walked away, his head swaying side to side.
“You had fun?” He nodded once. “Good. Gal, are you ready-” He turned around, and you were gone.
His blood ran cold.
The stranger. You must have gone to them — why would you wander off like that? Well, that’s a dumb question, he scolds himself. You’re the worst wanderer he’s ever met.
He scanned the crowd. The stranger and you had disappeared — he looked for the top of your head. You’d clipped a silver band in your hair — it stood out.
Grogu made a noise. “They’ve wandered off. I’m not sure where.” His skin felt tight, chest squeezing. Why?
“Keep an eye out, okay?” In a split decision, he heads towards the council building. He’ll be able to see the center from there and have Karga look over cameras.
Noone stood out as he walked, moving left and right, turning around when someone in purple moved close. Grogu made a high-pitched noise and waved his hand. Djarin followed the movement, seeing a flash of red and a quick turn of purple.
“Dank Ferrick, Gal.” He made his way towards you.
The strangers pulled their hood back to show a golden mask covering the bottom half of their face. They were talking to you in quiet whispers, nodding along to what you said in return. As Djarin moved closer, their eyes caught him and the conversation dropped.
You smiled at him, “Mandalorian. Oh!” You reached for Grogu, pulling him from Djarin arms, “Just like your Dad. It’s a spitting image,” you tilted your head, “Well, you’re cuter.”
You flashed him a smirk.
He looked back at the stranger.
“Ah yes,” A manic flash went through your eyes, “Mandalorian this is-” You paused.
The stranger held their hand out. He noticed the dark twist of their hair at their neck and followed the way they moved. Nothing about the stranger seemed threatening — he’d been fooled before.
“You may call me Re.” He clasped his hand with theirs and shook once, “I was talking with you partner here. They’d mentioned your child. You have a beautiful family.”
“Thank you.” His fingers itched to reach for his blaster.
Re’s eyebrow jumped as they leaned back. “Well,” They nodded at you, the golden mask pressing into their cheeks, “I’ll leave you be. I’m happy you showed me your dressings.”
There’s an edge to how she talked. His hand fell to his hip, curled around his holster until you moved closer to him and slid your arm through his. Re’s face went still as you pressed yourself against him.
“Thank you for talking with me.” You looked up at him. “I think it’s time to get this little guy home, yeah?”
When he looked back at Re, they were gone.
“Who was that?”
You pulled him forward, swinging Grogu towards him until he grabbed the child.
“I thought their mask was interesting.” You spoke in a sing-song tone.
Djarin shook his head. “There’s more to it. You knew them.”
“No.” Your feet were still bare. You avoided cracks as you walked in front of him. “I didn’t.”
“You’re lying.”
That stopped you dead.
“I’m not lying, Din Djarin.” With a deep breath, you spun around to face him. “Question.”
Whether he liked it or not, you would not budge on this. It caused a burning feeling in his stomach.
“What?”
Your eyes dimmed, your smile fading, the glow that surrounded you seemed to go out, “Do you have to leave tonight?”
He forgot about that.
“Let’s go home.”
-
They’d packed their gear, leaving it sitting on the table with the commbot resting on top.
You looked at it, ran your fingers over the red lines, “Let me get Grogu cleaned up.”
Djarin opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. Your shoulders slumped, drooping, as you walked towards the bathroom. Grogu toddled after you, his ears wiggling.
He didn’t want to leave. A piece of him wanted to stay here with you, pull out the holoboard or play with Grogu and Keyosa.
You could go with them — he’s sure if he asked again you’d consider — but you’d expressed no interest in joining. Bo had already agreed to come tomorrow, and you had the commbot with you.
The thought of it being a quick job replayed in his mind. This was a run of the wheel task, in and out then home before he knew it. Grogu’s training was advancing — he’d help with the pickup. He’d be home in two days max.
Once they’re back they’d be home for months, bar an emergency or call from Bo. Even in those times he could bring you along with them. If you want to go.
A sudden thought sprang to life inside him. When did staying in one place become something he wanted? Three years ago he traversed the galaxy as a Mandalorian ought to do. Now he — he has a family. A child he’s raising and training. Someone who gives him more reason to come home every day.
When did his life change?
Grogu burst from the hall with soap still on his face. You followed with a washcloth, your hand held out for Djarin to grab.
“He got impatient.” You rolled your eyes.
He loves your eyes.
“Grogu.” He kneeled down to lift the child onto the couch. The rest of the soap and lingering paint came away with a few swipes. Grogu pouted at him when he cleaned the back of his ears.
“Do you have everything?” You mumbled.
“Yeah.” Djarin stood up with Grogu tucked against his hip.
You nodded, “Good.
It fell silent as you moved through the room, checking their packs. Djarin watched you, his eyes following from the kitchen to the living room and back. You kept your head down, eyes averted.
It hurt.
“Gal-”
“I think you guys are ready.”
“Gal- what’s wrong?” He tried to stop you, but you pushed through, biting your lip. He followed you out the door.
You waited by the house as he settled the bags in the starfighter. Grogu climbed inside, shuffling into his pod.
With a breath, Djarin turned to you.
You had tears in your eyes.
“Gal-”
“You don’t have to go.” You whispered, “I’m sure Teva will understand this once.”
Djarin reached his hand out, touching your arm, sliding it down to your hand. “It’s supposed to be a quick trip. In and out — this one will get us through the rest of the summer.”
Your eyes stayed glued to his. “I’m not worried about the rest of the summer.”
He lifted his other hand to cup your cheek, sliding his fingers into your hair. You tipped forward with a harsh breath. “Bo will be here if you need her. You have Pilot to keep in constant contact and before you know it, we’ll be back.”
There’s a silent beat, a soft sound escaping as you step forward and rest your forehead against his helmet. The soft thud made him smile.
Your hands came up to rest on either side “Din Djarin,” He saw a star filled sky looking back at him, “Come home.”
You stood there. Your forehead pressed to his helmet — his hand holding yours as the other keeps you in place.
In this moment, he wishes he could feel you pressed against him. This feels different — alive — a moment that could change the galaxy.
Din Djarin loves you.
He loves you.
With a shaky breath, you stepped back, still holding his hand, and looked over his shoulder.
Grogu was watching you, waving his hand in a slow movement.
“Go.” Your voice sounded small.
Djarin looked at you once again, stroked his thumb across your cheek then released your hand.
Walking towards the starfighter shouldn’t have felt like walking away from you.
When he climbed inside, settling into the seat, he had a flashback of when he tried to leave Grogu. The image of him being left behind with that Imp.
The only thing that’d ever hurt him like this was watching Luke walk away with the child. He’d felt his reason for breathing disappear one step at a time.
“We’ll make it quick, kid.” He started the starfighter.
Grogu made a cooing noise.
Djarin looked at you before taking off, saw you wave towards them before wrapping your arms around yourself.
“Let’s get this over with.” You blended into the fading light as they rose higher into the sky.

Ashha steps out of the shadows, moving around the home to rest a hand on your shoulder. “He’s here.”
The sound of a ship hovering nearby filled the air.
You look over your shoulder to see the hazy outline of your friend. “I’m sorry.”
Ashha smiled. “We knew this would happen. We knew he’d use me to find you. Ritu will be prepared — Gal —”
“Don’t,” The world went quiet, “I knew this was coming. There’s nothing that can stop it.”
“We tried.” Ashha stepped back towards the shadows.
“Leave.” You looked up at the sky. “Be safe.”
“We’ll find you. He’ll find you.” Ashha disappeared.
You heard the heavy boot steps of storm troopers surrounding you. “I know.”

I'm working on the final story. It's going to take time, but I felt like this was finally ready enough to post.
