The Serum

I know, I’ve written this post a long time ago, in the first months of the blog and after a long search I finally found it, but I noticed some points in the post were wrong back then. I won’t delete the original post, but here’s the corrected and improved version of it.

"So yesterday in biochemistry class our professor talked about freezing cells as a method of breaking their walls (which, in biochemistry, you need to do quite a lot). At one point a student asked about the methods of companies in the States (or, well, wherever they sit) who offer freezing (dead) people to conserve them and have them ready to be thawed at a later point (where they can be revived, I guess) and my brain went directly towards Bucky and Steve. So apparently, these companies use a special kind of solution to fill the subject’s veins with, but our professor stated that the cells in the rest of the body are already dead, so it’s basically just a huge hoax.  Cells consist mostly of water and when water freezes, it creates very tiny very sharp crystals that pierce the cell’s membrane which is essential to its survival. That means that because normal people would die in the process of being frozen and unfrozen, Rogers and Barnes actually did survive just because of the Super Serum Dr. Erskine (and later also Howard Stark) created. My theory is that the serum either coats the cell organs with some kind of protective layer, that it creates circumstances preventing water from creating ice crystals within the cell or that it just renews the destroyed cell parts even in a frozen state, where the body should be unable to do anything, both on the outer or the molecular level. So, damn Howard! We already knew he was a genius for creating a lot of useful stuff, but his not-as-perfect-version of Erskine’s serum still saved Bucky’s life. If you ask me, that’s perfect enough. :) "
