FINALLY got my hands on the FFCC Remastered Edition! AND it comes with the original soundtrack as well!!! ever since Crystal Chronicles was released back in 2003, I completely fell in love with its gorgeous, unique, and unforgettable soundtrack, and i am so glad to see that the remastered edition comes with some commentary from Kumi Tanioka that also points out how much FFCC means to her and that it's one of her most important titles. i'll never get tired of saying it but the FFCC soundtrack has to be one of the greatest video game soundtracks ever, and it's so cool to know that Kumi Tanioka was also so hyped when she heard that she was going to get a chance to remaster songs from the game.

the booklet also comes with other interesting commentary that i'll have to read more carefully later but auughh i love this series so much and am now eagerly awaiting its next entry 😭❤️

I've reached season 5 on my CSI rewatch and I'm a few episodes past "Swap Meet", where a woman is murdered after attending a swing party with other couples from the neighbourhood. Near the end of the episode there's a moment that made me jump from my seat:

(Grissom walks up to Sara and takes the seat next to her. He's holding two cups. He hands her a cup of tea.)

[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - BRASS' OFFICE]

Erin Brady: Everybody fantasizes about other people. (She glances at Grissom.)

Even you, Mr. Grissom. A neighbor, a friend ... girl at the office.

[INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT - HALLWAY]

(The door opens. Paul Brady walks out of the hallway. Erin Brady walks out into the hallway. Sara is sitting in the hallway chair watching them. She watches as they meet and kiss.)

(Grissom walks up to Sara and takes the seat next to her. He's holding two culps. He hands her a cup of tea.)

Right after Erin ends her sentence with 'girl at the office', the first time Sara and Grissom meet again, he brings her tea. This might be an innocent interaction but to me it seemed like a nod to this relationship they have where both are into each other, know about the other's feelings, but can't/won't do anything about it (although Sara has kind of given Grissom an ultimatum). I don't know if it was intentional - I'm guessing it is, because I picked it up immediately. I might or might not have squealed in delight.

i will say. i would be mighty curious to see what a proper soulmate au horror story coming from u would look like 👀 it's something ive thought about before but is nearly never used for horror or tragedy, the only thing u see is angst from one side dying, which doesn't make the concept of soulmates itself terrifying

there’s so many things that are worse than death and that’s where a lot of soulmark/timer aus get stuck is on the concept of death…give me an au where someone has a timer for their soulmate’s lifespan and everyone tells them their soulmate has died, but the timer is still counting down and hasn’t stopped yet. give me an au where your soulmarks can appear at any time, even if you’re already married. even if you’re already in love. give me an au where as soon as your soulmark appears, you’re pulled out of the rest of society and told all you’re allowed to do is try and find your soulmate, and the rest of your life is effectively over.

The other thing i think gets neglected is what type of a world these things would create. how oppressive it would be. how life would be structured around finding your other half. how society could so quickly slide into a dystopian bioessentialist nightmare. would soulmarks be only reserved for couples that are a man and a woman? are they designed explicitly to pair people for procreation? what happens if someone is closeted and their soulmark matches them with someone who appears to be the same gender, effectively outing them as trans to everyone in their life? what would you do?

tldr there are so many opportunities and even these aren’t to the level of horror that i would like to explore, but they’re absolutely fascinating

One of the players brought whiskey for a last toast, which was very kind of them. I had never had whiskey before. Turns out I do not like whiskey. Unsurprising.

lt. cmdr. nella daren immediately became my favorite one-off tng character from her first scene she's so fantastic... i was worried the whole time they were gonna force some interpersonal conflict to make her the bad guy or just straight kill her off, and im so glad that didn't happen. as far as ending one-off relationships goes, thats abt the best i could hope for for her character. she gets to live on as a passionate stellar cartographer and musician, being an absolute delight to anyone who understands her like i do 🫀🫀🫀
