What do you think is the angst potential for yuumori pt 2? Will anyone die?

Gosh I hope not. Once upon a time I would have expected at least one major character to die, but now...I don't know, I think that would be kind of contrary to the Moral of the Story that's been established so far. The point is to Live, and to Atone with one's life rather than with one's death. To that end I think that at the very least the Moriarthree and Sherlock are safe, and probably most of the rest of the cast. I suppose Mary could get killed off, but that seems a little silly given that her ACD canonical mid-timeskip death was already sidestepped.

I guess there's a world where one of the more peripheral characters could essentially be like...Fridged, but for the opposite purpose. Rather than being killed to motivate an adventure and vengeance, they die as a test of whether the others will remain true to their new outlook and not immediately go back to spilling avenging blood. But. IDK. I hope that's not the way we're going. The first part kept pleasantly surprising me with it's trajectory towards hope and a future that's not easy but is worthwhile. At this point I feel like killing anybody off would just kind of undermine that and bum me out in an unpleasant way, rather than a delicious angsty way. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I am very curious to see what the conflict and tension of part 2 will be, now that Sherlock and Liam are married. 😆 I still kind of think it'd be fun if we get to lean harder into the MI6 spy shenanigans element. But we shall see.

Five comfort characters

Thanks for the tag, @yoellglia ! Here’s a list of characters that I’m way too attached to (probably bc I can relate to them in one way or another) and love very, very much. In no particular order we have:

Neal Caffrey (White Collar): He’s an artist! Okay, a con artist, but that only makes him more fun! I love when he drags everyone (this inculdes his bff, the whole FBI team and his boss’ wife and dog) into being a part of his shenanigans. He’s also one of the reasons I got into art (my love for Monet started with this show). And he always did a cute little trick with his fedora, which had me obsessed to the point I took a hat and practiced until I could do it. Though I don’t think that skill has stuck with me lol.

Will Graham (NBC Hannibal): He is heavily traumatized and spends a good part of the show haunted by nightmares, drenched in sweat and in need of a hug (and proper medical treatment). He loves fishing with a passion and has a tendency to collect stray dogs (and actually cares so much for them, which is sweet if you ask me). Also, his style goes from scruffy and adorable to neat and sexy and it shouldn’t be possible but he looks great in both.

Nick Nelson (Heartstopper): This boy is indeed a golden retriever. He’s probably the fluffiest character on this list and I basically would’ve loved to be him in my teens (this sounds like it was too long ago, but I’m just about to turn 23 lol). He loves sports, sucks at Mario Kart, has a dog called Nellie and the best part: I’m positive he gives some of the best hugs in the whole world. He’s also the best bisexual rep I’ve seen so far and I’m glad he exists.

Crowley (Good Omens): David Tennant is him, I can’t imagine anyone else playing this demon who’s been in love with an angel for over 6k years (they’ve seriously taken slow burn to a whole other level, but that’s another topic). I absolutely love how much the character plays with style. His snake tattoo is my favorite and his glasses are iconic (tho I must say I very much like his snake eyes). If I was to cosplay a character it would be him. There’s also something about the way he moves that’s so compelling to me. I love his mannerisms. He’s also a plant dad!!! And by now I’ve associated half of Queen’s discography with him and well, Queen is one of my favorite bands ever so yeah.

Sherlock Holmes (ACD Canon): I’m specifically talking about Sherlock from the original works/novels. He isn’t an egotistic, arrogant asshole that seemingly has no emotions or compassion for others. No, no, he’s actually just a nerdy, kind weirdo with too many feelings. Seriously, just read one of the many stories there are and you’ll see the difference. And before someone comes at me, I’m not hating on any adaptations here, I’m just stating my point of view and personal preference. Anyway, one of my favorite Sherlock moments is from The Musgrave Ritual. Sherlock was supposed to be tidying the apartment bc it was littered with his stuff, then Watson asked him about the contents of a wooden box and ofc it ended in story time. And well, I don’t know about you, but I find his getting distracted with old stuff while cleaning very relatable.

That feeling when you're recovering from a serious illness and you have to contact your childhood bully because it turns out he's now bffs with the only man who can help you.

There was something that touched me as I read this letter, something pitiable in the reiterated appeals to bring Holmes.

Seriously? Seriously? Now you're going to pity him. Watson... Watson, you're on thin fucking ice right now.

“You come at a crisis, Watson,” said he. “If this paper remains blue, all is well. If it turns red, it means a man's life.”

Another tantalising glimpse into a case we are not privy to. ACD does like these. He did it at the start of this story with The Second Stain as well, although we know he did eventually write and publish that one, because we've seen it.

"You are the stormy petrel of crime, Watson."

This is such a perfect phrase. I love it. I have nothing else to say about it, but I needed to share it.

“But the writing is not his own.” “Precisely. It is a woman's.” “A man's surely,” I cried. “No, a woman's, and a woman of rare character."

Once again, Holmes' supernatural ability to identify a person almost completely only from their handwriting comes to the fore! And Watson is so convinced it's a man. This is such a weird argument, but I've definitely had weirder with my friends, so who am I to judge?

...we were joined in a few minutes by a rather stout man who received us with much hospitality. His age may have been nearer forty than thirty, but his cheeks were so ruddy and his eyes so merry that he still conveyed the impression of a plump and mischievous boy.

I don't like him. Whenever someone in these stories is overly jovial, they turn out to be a dick. Or maybe it's the fact we've just seen what Watson considers the acceptable behaviour of mischievous boys. I just don't like him. Maybe I'll be wrong. Maybe I'm just overly suspicious and cynical. But the vibes are wrong.

“Of course you saw the J H monogram on my locket,” said he. “For a moment I thought you had done something clever."

Yep, don't like him. Rude.

So weird to refer to your old chum as just 'a young man' and not by his name. Like you didn't recognise him, when you claimed to be so intimately acquainted. How strange.

What does that even mean? How can thickness have anything to do with symmetry? Or shortness for that matter? I feel like I am missing something.

OK, so we've got a young man, his fiancee and her brother. As mentioned, I do not like the brother and I do not trust him. So far the fiancee herself has given me no reason to distrust her, but then neither has her brother. I just think he's sus. Guy's too happy, you know what I mean? I bet he's trying to discredit his future brother-in-law in order to scupper the marriage so he can keep his sister's fortune or something like that. Men in these stories do seem determined to stop female relatives from marrying.

Or maybe he's just a jovial man and I'm being paranoid.

If Akari and Volo were left alone for a day, would they be able to get along? What kind of shenanigans would they get up to if left unsupervised?

(Gonna interpret this in ACD context because I'm me and what else could you expect 😂)

Okay SO this is gonna be fun to talk about because it deals with a pair in ACD that does not get a ton of time to develop a solid relationship but are relevant to each other through their proximity to Rei.

Akari knew Volo in passing the same way most people in a small village would know a local merchant but wasn't particularly close to him before everything with the space-time rifts went down. She was close with Rei who seemed to be close to Volo (or at least slightly obsessed with him for some reason) but they didn't hang out all together.

When Volo betrayed Rei she was the one (along with Rei's Pokemon) to help pull him back together and kept the heartbreak from consuming him. At first she was pissed at Volo for doing that to Rei but over the years she more or less just forgot about him as Rei also started letting it go. None of it was personal to her besides how Rei felt about it so when he was good, she was good.

In what's been written so far I feel like Akari is worried about Volo being back and how that's affecting Rei but she also doesn't want to try and tell Rei what he should feel and do about things. She trusts his judgement and If Rei says they're helping Volo after the attack then they're helping Volo. She does feel horrified about what happened to him and if Rei is willing to be more forgiving than vengeful then she'll follow his lead.

She is pretty kind to Volo after his emergency amputation which I don't think Volo really expected. I wouldn't say she trusts him or anything as much as she's just trying to help him cope with trauma but Volo definitely will remember how well she treated him moving forward.

She could have not taken him seriously or spent time yelling him for what he did, but she just sits with him and tries to help him process everything that happened to him because she's genuinely a caring person and knew it was the most helpful thing to do. The good Rei saw in her would also be the good Volo would come to admire in her just as quickly.

Let's assume there's a situation where everything in ACD has calmed down nicely and everyone is happy in the most ideal possible outcome. Volo and Akari are able to have a relationship to each other free of any lingering strife and we get to watch them interact just as they naturally are.

Volo would be inclined to be on his best behavior towards Akari because he would remember that she treated him with respect and dignity at his lowest point when she had many good reasons not to. My Akari is also not a hard person to get along with in general. She's pretty chill and not anywhere near as explosive as Rei (which is why she's a mostly good influence on him even if she doesn't always stop his shenanigans) so I don't think Volo would manage to get on her nerves too much.

Akari is also used to Rei saying a bunch of shit she doesn't understand in a very impassioned tone while she nods and goes "uh-huh" so when you think about it she's predisposed to listen to Volo info dump endlessly about whatever. She'd probably pull up her sketchbook and draw while he tells her about whatever the fuck for a few hours and they'd both be pretty happy.

On the other side of that, Volo doesn't really know a lot about art stuff but he'd enjoy watching Akari draw while he talks and find the process really interesting. They'd entertain each other for a few hours like that easily. She might even give him a few lessons and he'd ask her a bunch of questions and she'd have to keep telling him to just keep doing the thing man idk it's art. You keep failing until something looks okay. (This drives Volo crazy bc he does not like to fail)

I also promise you they talk about Rei a lot because these two nerds share a partner and there's no way he doesn't come up. Akari doesn't understand homosexuality very well at all and Volo doesn't understand being aromantic or asexual very well so they also probably try to use the differing ways they feel about him as a way to better understand the other.

I don't think jealousy would really much of an issue there as long as they were dedicated to being honest with each other about how they feel and I feel like they would want to for Rei's sake. Making things work makes him happy and that's all they really want.

As for actual shenanigans I think they could be absolutely chaotic as a duo if they wanted to be, but they'd have to have a cause to rally behind. Akari isn't really up for causing problems unless she feels it's justified but I also think Volo being who he is could find all sorts of justifications to cause problems.

But that would have to be a story for another time because I got enough story on my hands as it is!

Here’s a summary of why Sherlock Holmes is named Herlock Sholmes in the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.

The last couple Sherlock Holmes stories are still under copyright in the US. 10 short stories were published between 1923 and 1927. In the US, for works published before 1978, the term of copyright is 95 years from the date of first publication (you can blame the Mouse). The entirety of the ACD canon won’t be public domain until January 1st 2023. In the UK, copyright lasts until 70 years after the author’s death, regardless of how close to their death they wrote their works. The entire ACD canon went into public domain in the UK in 2000. Japan uses this same system.

The Doyle Estate is run by greedy bastard(s). When the Enola Holmes Netflix movie was announced, they claimed that the experience of ACD loosing his son in WW1 led him to write Sherlock Holmes as showing more emotions than he had before. They sued Netflix, as well as the author of the Enola Holmes’ books, which they had ignored for 15 years. While any reader of the original books will tell you that Holmes has never been an emotionless person and has always been a tad more progressive than his setting’s status quo, the defense used by Netflix was that such generic traits as kindness are not protected. While there is no concrete evidence of this, it has been theorized that such a threat of lawsuit regarding the American distribution of shows like BBC Sherlock is why Sherlock Holmes has been depicted as such as asshole in recent years.

The case against Enola Holmes was dismissed with prejudice, but all that means is this specific case has been dismissed permantly by the judge. Unfornately for Capcom, this means that the idea of Sherlock Holmes being emotional being something protected by the last 10 stories isn’t something that has been struck down by the court. It is not immunity for them, and even if the estate’s case is once more dismissed, Capcom will still have to pay to bring themselves to that point. Those already familiar with Sherlock’s characterization in DGS will know that the Doyle Estate can make the same claims as they did against Enola Holmes.

So what to do? Well Herlock Sholmes isn’t a name they pulled out of thin air. He is another completely public domain character, created by Maurice Leblanc, the author of the original Arsense Lupin stories in 1906. Herlock Sholmes, foiling copyright for over a hundred years. It’s also fitting give Lupin’s history of copyright shenanigans in Japan because of the Lupin III manga.

I read some Sherlock Holmes stories and, as a current AA fan and LONG ex-BBC Sherlock fan, I have some thoughts

I cannot fucking believe that HERLOCK SHOLMES feels like a more accurate interpretation of Sherlock Holmes than whoever the motherfucker at the BBC is. I’m not even fucking exaggerating how did that happen? I think it’s because the DGS writers care more about the lesser appreciated parts of Sherlock (he’s polite, kind, and actually respects the people who work with him) and treat him like a human being unlike whatever that omniscient fucking deity the BBC made. Sherlock is not omniscient or supernaturally intelligent. I mean, he’s pretty damn smart but more than that he’s observant and is just excellent at interpreting the information he perceives. I think AA’s Sherlock fits better with the ACD canon as a whole (even with all his wacky bullshit) than BBC’s Sherlock does. But no, Sher-bot who uses fucking omniscient bullshit to solve his mysteries gets the greenlight from ACD’s estate. Meanwhile, the Sherlock Holmes who is portrayed as a kind, perceptive, and extremely passionate individual is a big nope because...he gets into weird shenanigans? Like, I’m sorry but Herlock Sholmes is a character who sticks more with me than Sher-bot ever will.

Hello! I really love your analysis and depth in understanding Yuumori characters, your fics & hcs as well. I think that they fits very well and it'd work nicely canonly! Anyway, there's something I'd like to ask, my apologies if you've received similar questions before.

What do you think the plot of part 2 most likely be about? since the whole "bad noble die" is now over, chances if it'll focus more on William's redemption? or perhaps the plot will be focused on solving capitalism during that era or some sort 🤣

Oh, and also, since "the third Holmes" is quite popular among ACD's SH adaptations, do you think the same would most likely apply to this series? For me, Sherlock already radiates the annoying youngest sibling energy and having another Holmes could break his dynamic with Mycroft. Unless the story really calls the need for it, I'm excited to see how they'd look like and how they'd take part in the story.

Thank you for stopping in, I'm really glad to hear that you enjoy hearing from me in various ways!

I think there's a fairly good chance that part 2 will lean a bit more into the MI6/James Bond/spy shenanigans aspect of things. Billy and The Honeymooners (band name lol) being tangled up with the Pinkertons, the Empty Hearts arc and the whispers of world war (I am due for re-reading that arc, I admittedly don't remember the finer details of the politics going on there), and everyone sort of regrouping into Mycroft's and Louis' domain could all suggest that being the direction. I think it could be a really fun time.

I am curious as to whether there will be any kind of overarching antagonist going forward; Sherlock and William were never good at being enemies, but at least they were two loosely opposing forces. Now, everyone is on the same team, and it does seem a little late to introduce new main characters. But maybe not; maybe the start of a new part is the perfect time for that. We'll see!! (I can't wait!)

As for the third Holmes sibling, again, seems a little late but who knows! I do think if there was one, they would be the middle child, born sometime in the seven years between Mycroft and Sherlock. So Sherly would still retain his bratty youngest child position lol.
