Day 2, and one workshop photo of MY work

Before I say ANYTHING, hello to Wichita folk from Chaz. :) He was shocked (and delighted) at how much people enjoyed the show and we absolutely are brainstorming things for the future. So a huge thank you for the support and kindness. It meant a ton to him (and obviously me and David as well!)

Day 2 was a roller coaster... for ME!

I'm very suspicious because everything is going so well. Too well. Things never go this well. So I decided it was time to start really stoning some costume pieces that I hadn't before while David got supplies.

Then I got a phone call, never a good sign, from David asking me could I get the padlock open for the gate.

Padlock? What Padlock?

There are no concrete answers, only a guess... but it's believed that people who share a lot to store their boats left and padlocked the gate behind them so I was TRAPPED in the costume shop (which is a completely different building/drive away from the theatre) all alone with no food and had been the entire day while David couldn't get me.

Some chaos to get a key and get out, and David decided to go to the night time run through for notes. Chaz told me to take tonight off because I went through ND hell as there was a loud beeping noise nonstop and I had to turn my headphones up louder than normal (I usually watch a show in the background--today was "Power Book III: Raising Kanan" from Starz) so it hurt then the panic of being alone and trapped.

Anyway, what I *Did* realize was that I absolutely can share a wip of Bedazzling more of the Reba!Suit because that is my costume, that has been seen onstage before, there is no actor in it, no full costume, and it's MY original design.

Way back, we had very cheap acrylic rhinestones because we were too poor for better ones. Now, we're mixing in preciosa and swarovski with some crystal and glass ones. We have not removed the acrylics YET because a lot is carefully plotted fill ins and until I have enough time to REALLY thoroughly do it, I don't want to remove any sparkle.

So, for your pleasure (or not, Idk, maybe you don't care) this is the epaulets and belt for the Gumbie Tap Suit that's my design. If you notice a few interesting things with the waistband/tail, that is because it's got four strong snaps for the waist. There's stretch but not as much as some of our other specialty fabric, and different tappers prefer different tightness. We're hoping to add some snaps as this Jenny is between sizes and really wants a snatched waist (she didn't want to take the costume off--never seen anyone so happy before!)

I will be adding gold, yellow, and orange to it. I added purple to Misto in two shades and some AB crystals.

I forgot if I said this or not but I was requested to rhinestone Misto's shoes for his song number. I can't wait to show people pictures. I'm pretty sure there will be video. The last time I saw a very flippity Misto was my first pro production where an INCREDIBLE cheerleader/gymnast/hiphop dancer was cast. It was incredible to watch. This choreo is really fun and Misto's actor's manner actually does come across as shy and aloof at first... then super excited and happy. METHOD ACTING OR JUST HYPED ABOUT COSTUMES??? The world may never know.

I think people will REALLY like Rumple and Mungo a LOT. Cassandra is FANTASTIC.

Also anyone here have Starz? I need to gush over "P-Valley" and cry over "Hightown" s3 with someone! "Raising Kanan" is good but not hitting me in the feels the same way.

Local nail salon vs non local review:

Non Local experience: I once had my nails done at a birthday party when I was eleven. It was fine and I had gotten crackle nail polish which had black on top and red in the cracks. It was very neat. But I didn’t love having my nails done. I usually just cut them or painted them myself.

But now in my twenties I have found myself looking for new experiences and just being able to do something fun or nice for no reason in particular. So in June for my birthday (10th) 2023 me and one of my best friends, practically my sister, set out to try and be “girly”.

Now I’m a typically nervous person. So I tried to book a time at a salon in a neighboring state, as we were right on the border, online but they never saw it. I even CALLED to confirm before we went but no one picked up or called back.

After driving more out of the way than I had expected we had arrived. We walked in to the owner giving a male customer a pedicure. There was only them and presumably the owners pre teen child. I said “Hi I tried to make an appointment online for today at four pm but I don’t know if it went through. I tried to call to confirm also but no one picked up. Do you have availability?” The owner and man looked at us as if we interrupted something important and she said “Ah..No.”. We said “Okay thanks.” and left. We felt awkward, the atmosphere was awkward, the whole ordeal was AWKWARD.

We then tried to drive to a second place, still oddly far, that claimed to take walkins. When we pulled into the parking lot there was a woman by the driveway in, smoking a cigarette. We parked and walked towards the second salon hoping for a better experience. Then the woman we saw RAN at us asking what we were doing. Feeling more awkward I explained we were walkins only to have her tell us no!

Now I could see in just a little and I thought they were just super busy. BUT IT WAS NEARLY EMPTY! With two employees and like one customer a woman ran at us to stop us from entering. We were done trying to do nails and hungry. Defeated, we left for an early dinner. We would try again a different month.

Local experience: It’s been months now. We were determined to try again somewhere closer. So I called to make an appointment which went well but I was clearly confused and new to this.

BUT SUCCESS! We had an appointment for four pm for a full set of acrylic nails! It was now December ninth 2023 and we were at last getting our nails done! We drove there, walked in and it was still awkward and confusing but they sent us to separate stations and we were on our way to being girly.

We did think being separated was weird but at least we were actually being seen. They definitely do not care about appointments, which is good and bad. It's practically walkins only but at least that works for us! I chose longer nails with pastel purple cat eye nail polish and my friend said shorter with a lighter pink.

Now since it was our first time and we knew nothing they gave her SHORT nails. Like barely there nails. But I didn't see that till later.

We both sat in silence having no idea how to talk to these people. My technician seemed content with that and it was only a little awkward. I listened to some other customers' random chatter and watched him work on my nails. I do have sensory integration so some things that wouldn't bother most people bother me, like filing my nails. That was the part I hated the most but I pushed through it!

Now I did realize most if not everyone paid in cash. Of which I had NONE on me. Que my silent panic that I wouldn’t be able to pay and everyone would be mad at me. Towards the end I did find they accept cards, but cash is preferred. I paid for us both and we left having a pretty good experience.

We did go back for fill ins January eleventh 2024 and had just as good an experience. My friend had her nails done just the way she wanted, we got to sit next to each other, and had a little more chit chat with our techs.

Although something my tech put on my nails burned when she drilled off the old acrylic, which also burned, and it burned a little again when she was finishing off the fresh acrylic. But I pushed through and got this turquoise color cat eye again.

Overall it was all a good experience and we will for sure go back again in like a month. Finding the right nail salon is like dating. You just have to go and see the different choices and who will actually let you in!

This is mostly a life-admin post. There's no way I can turn this day interesting (hmm), but I did have my first proper me-date day in two weeks, as yesterday ended up dedicated to appointments. I was prescribed agomelatine for depression in early 2020, which significantly assisted with the regulation of my sleep and moods, so today I filled my script after forgetting about the stuff for over a year. I also picked up a script of Zyban to assist me in quitting smoking: I think abstinence is the best solution when it comes to quitting anything my body craves but this is a path I've never explored -- and I really want to quit, but don't want to risk the emotional volatility of the cold-turkey method at this time. 24 days 'til psychiatrist. I just don't take care of myself when I'm smoking, I forget to moisturise, take vitamins, drink water, exercise. I self-inflict a sense of social alienation upon myself. My psychologist did say that smoking made sense since the medications for ADHD are typically stimulants etc, so I feel a little less shame around it. I sat and read, underlining / contemplating / hair twirling and having ideas. On my way home I called mum, then stopped in at Officeworks to buy paint. I have not felt inspired artistically in a while, and generally haven't had the confidence or will to paint anything since the exhibit -- maybe even before then. The amount of times I've posted WIP's, received positive feedback, then painted over them is... getting ridiculous. Today I wished I could call someone in particular about all this, as if I could just easily ask "what are you doing, where are you?" and have someone show up, sit and shoot shit with me. It's not a delusion I lean into, and I attempt to mitigate the risk of run-ins by avoiding certain streets but the thought still made me reflect. I realise when we lose people in our lives -- for whatever fault, there's still an important lesson earned and sometimes it's just 'okay, this aspect of that relationship was really important to me, and I require it in some form, but I must search elsewhere for it' so while acknowledging that, I did take a moment today to just feel the sadness about it. I've white-knuckled so many nights feeling lost, alone, desperate, misunderstood and unresolved that it has made me somewhat fearless where solitude is concerned. I don't need to scroll through the apps for validation, I'll never beg for attention or affection -- I'll always enjoy my own company and ultimately accept when it's necessary. I know I feel inspired by colour, so I stood for a long time ogling the tubes at the store, and strangely enough, the super vivid neon colours were no longer the main draw for me. I found myself pairing earthy tones, feeling grounded by them and realising a new creative era may be abloom. I bought Matisse brand acrylics: Violet, mineral blue, pale pink, mars black and terracotta. I dunno................ 24 days. Holding on, and feeling particularly gentle in nature, and this softness doesn't feel like a vulnerability -- so that's something.

The owner Brian is everything to me, they take walk ins and most importantly, it’s reasonably priced— I pay half of what I paid in Raleigh for an acrylic fill and gel polish manicure!
