I hate copilot (AI tool) so much, personally I think it makes developers lazy and worse at logical thinking.
We are working on an UI application that is mocking service call responses for local testing with the use of MSW.
There were some changes done to the service calls that would require updates on the MSW mocking, but instead of looking at the MSW documentation to figure out how to solve that, my coworker asked copilot.
Did it gave him a code that fixed the issue? Yes, but when I asked my coworker how it fixed it he had no idea because a) he doesn’t know MSW, b) he didn’t know what was the issue to begin with.
I did the MSW configuration myself, I read the documentation and I immediately knew what was needed to fix the issue but I wanted my coworker to do it himself so he would get familiarized with MSW so he could fix issues in the future, instead he used AI to solve something without actually understanding neither the issue or the solution.
And this is exactly why I refuse to use AI/Copilot.

Listening to the New York Times podcast Hard Fork, and just now where they were talking about "AI snobs." "If someone says they don't use AI, they're probably lying."
Ive been frustrated with this podcast for awhile now, but episode this made me unsubscribe. I'm gonna yell about it for a sec.
They are fine with junior engineers checking in AI solutions. This tells me they haven't worked on a single software project a day in their life (true, they are journalists). It is very important that a junior learns how to think through problems!! It is very important that everyone involved understands the code!!! Copy-paste code is likely to have non-obvious bugs and is often difficult to modify. Writing code that's easy to modify is one of the most important skills software engineers can acquire. I could go on.
They made the assertion that AI can come up with better ideas and write better prose than they could on their own. If that's true? Respectfully, then change careers to something that doesn't require creativity. Its prose is vapid and its ideas are boring, and if you can't do better than it, you're just not very good at writing! I'm sorry. There are classes you can take to improve if this is the case.
Finally, back to "if you say you don't use AI you're lying." Bro, I gave it a good faith effort, since y'all wouldn't shut up about it. I got a Copilot license at work. I've tried brainstorming creative ideas with it. And in every. single. case, it's been inferior to asking other humans.
And all this doesn't even touch on the IP theft or environmental concerns.
tldr: Fuck AI and fuck AI boosters.
PS: Hard Fork sucks, listen to Better Offline instead

Recently, StatCounter posted a chart showing that Windows 10's market share is growing, while Windows 11's is shrinking. This flies in the face of what Microsoft has planned, especially given how Windows 10's end-of-life date is looming in the distance. As such, I wanted to do some research into the topic; did StatCounter's statistics get things wrong? Or are people downgrading from Windows 11 to Windows 10? While there's no way to state without a doubt that people are downgrading, I did find people with pain points with Windows 11 that might be contributing to the system's downfall.
Oh, I'll tell you why: people are fucking pissed that Microsoft is (1) shoving unblockable pop-up ads onto their desktop and (2) adding AI to stuff that doesn't warrant AI.
Like, who needs AI in File Explorer?
Or a dedicated Copilot™ button that pops open a slow-as-hell panel that allows you to receive hallucinated lies to simple questions? And when it's not lying, its output is the typical LLM homogenized slurry of too-many-words to express simple concepts.
OR COURSE people are going to stop using your shitty product if you continually surprise them with bad "features" nobody asked for.
And Linux users, I love you. But the first one of y'all to chime in with JUST SWITCH TO LINUX gets bopped with a rolled up magazine because many people do not have that choice. Either work requires them to use Windows, or they don't have direct control over their computer. My elderly MIL is not going to install & maintain a fork of Ubuntu so she can play solitaire. It's a nice thought but Linux isn't the solution for some folks.

i love (hate) that Visual Studio has a thing now where its constantly pushing it's AI garbage Copilot. "Have an issue with your code? Copilot will help!" and then it absolutely does not do that by either A: not loading AT ALL and slowing down all of VS OR going "oopsie poopsie! this doesn't work. Do you want to copy 1000000x letters to your clipboard and google it instead?" neither of which will help you actually find the solution to the error you're having. The solution is on random reddit pages from 6 years ago. Anyways I hope Microsoft evaporates
