Elly Conway, an introverted spy novelist, has almost finished her fifth book about Aubrey Argylle, the eponymous character of the Argylle series, but suffers from writer's block after feedback from her mother, Ruth. On a train journey to visit Ruth and her father, Barry, Elly is saved from an ambush by an actual spy, Aidan Wilde, who explains to her that a devious organization, known as the Division, has targeted her because her novels seemingly predict their future. Aidan travels with Elly to England, hoping that her next chapter will reveal how to stop the Division.

Ok but I’m having another category 5 Sam Rockwell in “Argylle” moment and just 😵‍💫😶😩

“You need some rest, kid.”

“I knew you better than you knew yourself, kid.”

“Pretending not to love you, kid.”

🥺🫠😭 He’s always talking about how great of an agent Elly/Rachel is, tells her he’s proud of her, makes sure she gets rest, is always trying to cheer her up and calm her down even if it’s in his awkward and clumsy dad™️ kind of way

The way he refers to her as “sunshine”, “hot sauce”, and ofc “kid” and literally refers to himself as “father” in that one scene 👀😵‍💫🥲 all in that low, gravelly voice; the arm touches, the gosh damn fuckin whirlybird, when he refuses to hit/fight her, and the way he looks at her throughout the movie, both before and after the reveal, with so much softness, affection, yearning, adoration

In conclusion, Sam Rockwell/Aidan Wilde is a pink, yellow and blue smokeshow

Is the man who is the only one who starts dancing on an empty dance floor (and takes you with him)…

Is the man who would rather die than hurt you...

what she says: i'm fine

what she means: the division clearly knew that the song now and then was important to rachel, and presumably they knew why and therefore just how much it meant to her, so instead of ignoring it they co-opted it into their mind control so that if it popped up in elly's life then she might know it meant something to her but she was supposed to just think 'oh, it's my song from my music box', however even vogler's best efforts - both as the head of psy ops and in her capacity as mother figure - couldn't completely erase the full depth of feeling that rachel has for aidan so no matter how much ruth encouraged elly to try dating, deep down she *knew* she wasn't single, and her song reminded her heart of that every time she heard it, even though her head had completely forgotten who aidan was
