I thought long and hard about sharing spoilers with you on my blog, but here they are: a buffet for Shinkane fans! I can’t guarantee that the spoilers are 100% correct since I haven’t seen the movie myself and translations can be messy, but I try my best – feel free to correct me, to add things or to call me a crackpot and liar!

I had a feeling that many of you would like to know (at least to some extent) what this movie is about and if Shinkane becomes canon. It will probably take some time for PPP to be released outside Japan and as we all know, patience is a virtue. Don’t read if you don’t want spoilers. I’m serious! There are major spoilers in this text! But if you don’t mind, here’s a summary of what I picked up from Japanese fans who have already seen the movie:

1. The first meeting with Unit One after Ko’s return goes as expected: Ginoza is angry and Sugo has to prevent him from going off on Kogami. The atmosphere between Akane and Kogami is described as awkward and tense even when working together on the new case. They travel to Dejima (?) and Saiga accompanies Akane because he’s the only one who can access the Stronskaya document.

2. When Kogami and Saiga have a drink in the apartment/hotel, Saiga urges Ko to contact Akane and to come clean with her. He obeys by calling her. Akane tells him to apologize (“I just want you to say sorry”) but he doesn’t, so she hangs up the phone. Kogami seems to be very irritated and I can’t wait to see his face. Also what is the meaning of the empty liquor bottle on Ko’s table?

3. Ginoza asks Kogami on the boat “Why did you come back? It was our duty to protect Tsunemori” to which Kogami answers something like “For someone else’s sake again.” Does it mean that he came back for Akane? I think so. Ginoza seems to smile a little when he hears this.

4. We already saw the scene where Ko shields Akane from the explosion, but I don’t know exactly what happens afterwards. They say the angle of view is a little erotic (this can also be translated as horny, obscene) LOL

5. When the Peacebreakers attack, Saiga-sensei dies. I think he gets stabbed and then falls over a railing into the depths of the building. Akane tries to save him but he lets go of her hand so that she doesn’t fall with him. Phew! This is going to be hard to watch. No wonder why the Japanese fans cried! When Akane finds his dead body, the one who comforts her is Ginoza. Ko goes after Akira to fight him in a landscape holo room (?) aka that scene with the horse.

6. Now the elevator scene. Akane cries over the death of Saiga but Kogami seems unable to comfort her. Something holds him back (his own grief maybe?) so he just pats her on the shoulder saying something like “Focus on your duty, and cry after everything is over” and Akane says “Yes”. It sounds a bit heartless and reserved, doesn’t it? Why all the drama?

7. Then there’s an interrogation at SAD or PSB headquarters and Kogami gets shot by the arrested Akira whose consciousness was hacked. Ko ends up in the hospital where Akane visits him and finally they talk to each other and come to an agreement. This is very reminiscent of PP1.

8. I was a bit surprised to hear that Akane is invited to Kei’s wedding and that Arata’s dad commits suicide in his car after giving a speech. Really? On the wedding day of his son’s best friend? Did Arata witness this? Holy sh--! At least, I read that Akane followed Arata into the parking lot and perhaps was able to comfort him.

9. Akane leads the operation to stop the Peacebreakers. Before she leaves (gets on the plane?) Kogami is worried and says “Hey, don’t do anything reckless” and she replies “I can’t promise you that, so you better come quickly please.” Is she flirting with him? I think it’s cute and quite self-confident.

10. When Akane is defeated in the fight against the white haired man who points a gun to her head, Kogami rushes to her aid. The plan was to arrest the guy but things went out of hand. Kogami shoots him and then he hugs the injured Akane – yes, that’s what it says in the comments! I can’t wait to see this! I read that Akane says something like “I made Kougami-san kill again” to which he answers “And I will be held accountable for it”. The hug seems to have been a request from director Shiotani, because (as we already know) Akane and Ko won’t see each other for a long time after that.

11. The end is a bit confusing and I’m not sure if I got it right: Kogami is arrested and Akane writes him a letter that is just as emotional as Ko’s letter in PP1. She says that he had a great influence on her life and that she can’t promise him anything. Then she goes off to kill chief Kasei during some public event (?) because Sibyl wants to introduce a new bill that would strip the Ministry of Justice of all authority (?). Akane’s crime coefficient is low because you can’t kill a cyborg. But from the public’s perspective, she’s a killer. She seems to sacrifice herself for the dream of a just society that abides by the law instead of Sibyl’s despotism. Now Sibyl has to judge her. They have to reveal and explain her low CC without looking like idiots. Good luck, Sibyl! Akane seems to have set a precedent in PPP.

12. Kogami goes free and Akane is sent to the isolation facility where she finally breaks down and cries. He promises to pick her up when she is released – and so he does in FI when he finally manages to apologize! Some fans say that even though Kogami’s crimes aren’t punished by law it’s clear from his emotions that Akane’s imprisonment is his punishment. His actions had an impact on others, especially on someone he cherishes and loves. But unlike Kogami who killed out of revenge and violated the law, Akane has committed a crime in order to uphold the law. The Japanese fans cried at the end. Kogami must look pretty miserable! Seems as if Shinkane has a habit of breaking each other’s hearts and ours too, huh? But we know they will reunite in FI, so there’s hope! And who knows what the future holds.

Well, the movie covers many issues: foreign politics, references from the bible, Bifrost, new technology and AI, lots of action and so on. It’s quite exhausting to do research in Japanese as a beginner, so I only focused on the things I wanted to know. In other words: Akane, Kogami, Ginoza and Shinkane! I can’t wait for this movie to be released in my country, although I think it will probably be another year :’(

One last thing: speculations about the nature of the relationship between Akane and Kogami are running wild on social media again but all I can say is that if only a mere 20% of the above is true, then you can’t speak of platonic. Sorry, it’s not possible! There are far too many emotions, far too much awkwardness here that you don’t go through as “just friends”. They’re not a couple, but both of them are probably aware that they could become one if they chose to.

Summary: An early morning work summons pulls a reluctant Akane out of bed. She's not the only one upset about it.

The sound of her ringtone going off pierced the room, making Akane’s head jerk up before her eyes could fully open. It was still dark, to the point where she wouldn’t have been able to tell a difference between her eyes being opened or closed if it weren’t for the bright light of her communicator shining from her bedside table. Her fingers were clumsy with sleep as she grabbed at it and barely managed to answer. “Hello?”

“Inspector Tsunemori. You’re needed here.”

Akane squinted at the clock in the corner of the comm’s hologram. “Shimotsuki, it’s 4am.”

“I’m ‘Chief’ to you now, senpai, and as your superior, I expect you to come when I call.”

A smile tugged at Akane’s lips at Mika’s habitual use of “senpai,” but she was careful to keep it out of her voice. “Alright, I’ll be there soon.”

A rustling came from her side as she hung up, and before she could get out of bed, an arm fell over her waist. “Where are you going?”

Her smile grew, as it always did when she heard that deep, sleep-roughened voice. She turned to let her eyes meet a sleepy gray gaze that blinked at her over a small frown. “Duty calls.”

“Now?”

“Are you really surprised?”

A soft sigh huffed out Kogami. “No. Just annoyed.”

“Me, too.” She shifted beneath his arm, trying to slide out and towards the edge of the bed, but it just weighed heavier over her waist. “Shinya.”

“Hm?”

“I have to go.”

“Mm…you have to pay the toll.”

A scoff of disbelief escaped Akane, but she knew better. Ever since he had returned to Japan and they had reunited, he’d shown a playful bent to his personality that had always been hidden beneath weariness and sharp deduction. He still behaved very much the same way in public and at work, but when it was just the two of them, he was always gently teasing her and making silly demands with a steady voice.

Like now. “You’re ridiculous,” she sighed, before taking his face in her hands and pressing a kiss to his lips…and his nose…and all over his face.

“Akane…oi, Aka-mmf!”

She pulled away from his lips with an exaggerated smack and a proud grin. “Was that the toll? Can I go now?”

“You little…” Before she could slip away, there were calloused fingers sliding up the back of her neck to sink into her hair, holding her in place as he grumbled, “My turn,” and leaned in.

Her kisses had been light, playful presses of her lips over his lightly-stubbled cheeks. His kiss was slow, tender, relished, had her sighing out a soft moan and opening up beneath his parted lips.

When they parted, he was wearing a small, satisfied grin, and she was slowly blinking out of a kiss-drunk daze. “Now you can go,” he hummed with one more chaste kiss.

“If I’m late, I’ll make sure the division knows you’re to blame,” she huffed as she hurriedly dressed and picked her holo, her threat holding no real bite.

“I’m sure Shimotsuki would love to hear all about it.”

It was tricky to stick her tongue out while smiling, but Akane managed it just fine.

"Shimotsuki.”

“It’s ‘chief’, you can’t just—”

“Chief,” Akane corrected herself with a bitten-back sigh. “Could you explain to me again, slowly, what about this was so urgent?”

“We got the suspect in custody! We need to make sure we take proper advantage of his interrogation, and that includes preparing the proper questions and interrogator. You’re…you’re the best at making those decisions.” Shimotsuki bit out the last sentence like the words left an actual bitter taste on her tongue. An unfair response, considering she pulled Akane to the PSB at a frankly unholy hour for her supposed expertise.

“Mika,” Akane sighed, “the suspect is currently sleeping, as is our best interrogator. This is a meeting we could very easily have later in the day, when I am actually scheduled to be on-duty and everyone will be awake and alert.”

Shimotsuki glowered at her for a moment, before her eyes flickered away and her fingers began drumming at the desk. “Mika,” Akane murmured, continuing before Shimotsuki could correct her again, “what’s going on?”

It took the young chief another moment to wilt and meet Akane’s eyes. “I just…it’s the first major case since I was given this position. If something goes wrong, it’ll all reflect back on me.”

“Ah…” Akane reached out and set her hand over Shimotsuki’s restless fingers. “You can count on our team to get the job done and get this man to face the sentencing he deserves. You know you can trust us; otherwise, you wouldn't have assigned us on such an important case.”

It had been so many years, but in moments like this, Akane could still see remnants of a terrified, weeping high schooler in those wide eyes. “...Okay,” Shimotsuki finally whispered. “You can return home, Inspector. I’ll see you this afternoon.”

It wasn’t an apology, but Akane wasn’t expecting one. She was happy enough to be allowed back home.

Usually, if Akane were to return and find Kogami still in bed, she would’ve felt a prick of annoyance, even if she ended up joining him beneath the sheets.

That morning wasn’t usual. When she saw that he was still asleep, his arm extended as though to hold her where she was supposed to be, she could only heave a sigh and hurry to change back into her pajamas.

“Welcome home,” he murmured in a low, soothing voice as she curled herself into her rightful place. “Was everything alright?”

“Mm…just Shimotsuki fretting.” Pressed into him like this, Akane could feel more than hear his knowing chuckle. “This promotion is wearing her down more quickly than any of us expected.”

“Whoever could have foreseen that?” His sarcastic question was punctuated by a grunt, his hand shooting down too late to catch Akane’s poking fingers at his waist.

“Be nice,” she scolded him half-heartedly, “and let me sleep.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Kogami laughed, fondness threaded through the soft sound.

Fate/Zero because it’s action-y but also deep and emotional and also there’s Saber and I love her

4. Anime you have not finished watching yet

Something something ano hana (English is The Flower We Saw that Day) and like, tons more that I’ve halfway watched and haven’t finished. The main reason I can’t get through The Flower is because it’s a little strange and I hate one of the character’s voices.

5. An anime you do NOT recommend and reasons

Wasted hours of my life on World Break: Aria of a Curse for a Holy Swordsman :/ It’s filled with disgusting fanservice and the MC is a pervert. I watched it when I was younger and I just thought anime was Like That but thank god I’ve learned better. Oh, and Fairy Tail, of which I have watched HUNDREDS of episodes. It’s not bad, (except for the fanservice) but why. You could watch so many other animes in the space of one season.

I don’t subscribe to this but obviously I love love love Saber (genuinely had a crush on her that I didn’t realize until later) BUT would never date her. I also think Nausicaa (from the Ghibli film) is rad and I would definitely follow her into battle. I love Violet from Violet Evergarden because she’s pretty and also she can fight! There’s one shot from the second episode or something of her in trousers sitting on the roof and that makes my heart go ba-dump so. Yeah.

13. Weirdest anime you have seen?

Maybe Kill la Kill? So much (so much!) fanservice, but surprisingly good story.

Subbed! There are maybe like 2 or 3 dubs I condone.

Fanart! I just can’t get into reading fanfic.

Protagonist, considering four out of five faves on number 10 are the main character + protagonist...

Nichijou! So much fun

I can’t remember anything that made me cry throughout, but I cried really hard over Akame ga Kill because I got attached to the MC and then they yeeted off the mortal coil

Let’s say Kirei Kotomine because he was mean to Saber

20. Recommend an anime movie

All the Ghibli ones! But other than that, maybe Sakasama no Patema or Hoshi wo ou Kodomo. Both are kinda niche, but have very interesting worlds!

THE RETURN OF HEAD-CANONS!

Hello all! So my break took a little longer than planned. *sorry...* BUT!  My muse is back from her affair with Psycho Pass, which I've told her I'm not ready to go down that path... but she was gone for like a month and gave me only dreams of smut for that anime and boy were some of them dark. 

She’s returned, but after powering through on a sappy, romantic, lovefest filled chapter of Mended Hearts (Can be found HERE) she has let me know she’s moody and dark.  (I don’t think the break up went well with  Kogami, Ginoza, and  Tsunemori) I feel like I need to give her a little of that and I might get some Omegaverse love. 

So I will be bringing back my Head Canons! But, not really Daily. I will commit to at least 3 a week! For now these will be posted on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. No themes are set in place as of yet, but I’m always open for prompts and Ideas! Just send me a ask. I’m also open to more Fandoms now! I’m not limiting to just Head Canons, I might have a few just not “fleshed out” story ideas thrown in here. (AKA, me rambling at 2am....when @d2diamond is asleep and not answering me) The main ones I feel I could write for are:

Three Least Favourite Characters: 1. Tougane. 2. Kasei perhaps? or does that count as Sibyl..... 3. I wanna say Mika, but I guess I’m still expecting her to (hopefully) get some character development.  Five Favourite Ships (Canon or Not): 1. Kougami and Akane.  2. It’s too obvious since I own an entire artblog on that ship wasn’t it 3. Shion and Yayoi is niceee 4. does a bro-ship (?) count 5. if so then Kougami and Gino Character I find Most Attractive: 1. Kougami ahahahaha nice abs Character I Would Marry: Nah, no one bc I am dedicated to my husbando from another series ;). Kougami and Akane should get married instead.

Character I Would Be Best Friends With: Kagari seems fun to be with. Also would love to hang with Yayoi and talk about her nail art stuff. Or Masaoka with his paintings.....

An Unpopular Opinion: I used to theorize about how we perceive Shinkane as not canon bc we haven’t seen them do stuff, but that for all we (don’t) know they might’ve been secretly doing stuff hahaha like I wouldn’t be too surprised if it were to be revealed that they have done stuff all along. hence my answer for the next 2 questions My Canon OTP: Shinkane My Non-Canon OTP: Shinkane

Psycho Pass (3-4)

Episode 3 - rearing conventions While driving, Ginoza briefed Tsunemori on a case of body discovery, the third of such occurrences at the same location in a year. It was possible that that was a murder case.

Arriving at the scene, a factory managed in a way similar to Foxconn did in China, Tsunemori cheerfully told Ginoza that she thought she could get along well with the enforcers. Ginoza coldly asked her if she meant that by seeing them as colleagues (social equals) or by seeing herself as a handler of people that needed to be kept in check. "They say the fools learn from their experience, and the wise learn from history. I hope you are not a fool." Then he walked off into the location.

After preliminary examination of details of the body found, Ginoza told Tsunemori to go back to the car alone, saying that there was something else he needed to ask manager Goda.

Goda handed over to Ginoza the psycho-pass readings and hue assessments of the 50 workers, and added that even if the agents suspected murder, no culprit could be found. Ginoza replied that such a conclusion could only be arrived at after the sibyl system analyzed the data, which would take time; a faster way would be to check every worker with a dominator.

Goda refused, saying that such a process would disrupt the production operations. Unless the agents got evidence to show that the body of Shioyama found was a murder case, the factory would regard it only as an accident. If the agents insisted, they needed to file a request with the Ministry of Economy first.

The agents saw a worker named Kanehara being bullied and learnt that Kanehara's hue was yellow green, an indication of stress or distress. Kogami volunteered to talk directly to Kanehara to find out if he was the culprit. Ginoza angrily dismissed the suggestion, he maintained that a detective's intuition was not reliable, they must leave the deduction to the Sibyl system.

Tsunemori requested a talk with Ginoza. She said Kogami's method was worth trying. Ginoza signed, he gave a greenlight saying that a fool needed to learn the way a fool would, from experience.

Tsunemori asked Kogami if he intended to only talk to the suspect. Kogami halfheartedly said yes.

And Kogami went on to say that they would spread the words about Kanehara's psycho-pass and hue.

A distressed Kanehara ran off.

Kogami told Tsunemori about the goal of his actions: to determine if Kanehara would kill.

Kanehara appeared in front of the agents manning the devices he activated to kill a coworker before.

While Kogami and Tsunemori ran for their lives, other agents set up a communication network for the dominators to be activated. They arrived in time to save Kogami and Tsunemori. 

Kogami subdued Kanehara and then destroyed the two devices programmed to kill.

End of episode three.

Episode 4 - nobody knows your mask

Tsunemori assumed the virtual identity of Lemonade Candy and chatted with someone else's avatar by the name Talisman. Claiming to talk about a friend of hers, Tsunemori talked about her thoughts on her jobs, on Kogami without saying anything that revealed her true self.

Talisman played along with her line and suggested Tsunemori to pass on his advice, dispose any wishful thinking her friend had of that colleague and face his true self.

Tsunemori went to ask Masaoka about Kogami, hoping to understand him better. "To understand Kogami is to see things like Kogami does and to think like Kogami does", replied Masaoka. "If you become able to do that, your psycho-pass number will be the same as Kogami's."

"Kogami stared into the darkness too long. And even now, he's still staring into it. Probably to him, the only true justice in the world exists solely in the depths of that darkness. If you wanna go searching for something like that with him, there's nothing I can say. I can't stop you. I couldn't stop Ko, either."

A call from Ginoza about a new case. A person by the name Hayama had been missing for two months, the possibility of that person being away on vacation was ruled out because no trace of him leaving his home was recorded by street scanners. Kogami said Hayama was dead, and Kagari agreed, saying it was easier to get killed than to go missing.

The agents checked the hologram of the apartment and realized the couch had been moved from where it used to be.

Kogami, "You can't sit on a holography couch. So normally, the position of the holo object is synced with the real world one. That couch must have been there originally, but someone moved it. "

And beneath the rug under the couch was a scratch.

Kogami came up with a theory of what happened. The agents then checked Hayama's computer and found he was the person controlling Talisman the avatar.

Tsunemori and Ginoza entered Talisman's commufield and traced that avatar to another commufield ran by Spooky Boogie.

Upon seeing Lemonade Candy, Spooky Boogie "invited" the avatar of Tsunemori to her chat room

And Spooky Boogie knew the true identity of Lemonade Candy.

And she wanted to know why Tsunemori entered her commufield. So Tsunemori asked Spooky Boogie if she noticed anything strange about Talisman in the past two months, Spooky Boogie commented that he had been strange not in the past two months, but before that.

Tsunemori said they needed to find the actual person using the Talisman avatar and Spooky Boogie offered help.

She invited Talisman to a duel during a party to be held in Roppongi on the 4th.

The agents infiltration at the party was detected. Someone made a call to another person named Mido

That person said he would help Mido, aka Talisman, escape. 

Everyone's appearance became identical with that of Talisman.

Talisman confronted Spooky Boogie after he made his escape. "You've touted anarchism all this time and have been loved for that. And yet, you've acted as an agent for the government. Such a thing is impermissible. You betrayed your own character. You are no longer Spooky Boogie. You're not qualified to be an avatar loved by everyone."

Spooky Boogie left her commufield and tried to block Talisman. But Mido found out her address and killed her in her own room.

His two accomplices waited outside that room. Mido said he would assume Spooky Boogie's avatar, Makishima, the man reading a book (George Orwell's 1984), agreed, saying he would play the role better than Sugawara Shoko, just like he did with Hayama Kimihiko's Talisman.

End of episode four.

Comment: Episode three: Kogami improvised a way to make Kanehara feel cornered, and the person who held grudge from being bullied by coworkers became murderous. Thanks to the help by other agents, Kogami managed to subdue the suspect and walked out of it alive. Tsunemori was disturbed by his reckless approach, though.

Episode Four: Other than Big Brother is watching you, one thing really creepy about George Orwell's 1984 was that individuals do not exist, once any person found themselves on the state's radar, they would invariably be subjected to torture, interrogation, thought modification, and even made to face their worst fear in room 101. When the process was over, those individuals would publicly admit their "crimes" and then died criminals. The state could take the life of anyone. In this futuristic Japan depicted by psycho-pass, the sibyl system controlled the lives of anyone, constantly checking their readings, deciding for them what their best career path would be and whether they show any alarming traits. Makishima might be planning a revolution to bring change to that country of 24/7/365 surveillance.

Absolute favorite ship : OMG I don’t know ! I try to think about my favourite anime ever so I’ll say Faye Valentine x Spike Spiegel and Akane Tsunemori x Shinya Kogami. I don’t know if they are my absolute favorite ship but they are from my absolute favorite anime

Ship I hate the most : Kanato x Yui and a lot of Yaoi ship which feel wrong. PLEASE do not think I’m against yaoi because I’m not. It’s just that people ship people which SHOULDN’T be shipped because they relation in the canon is already established, like I don’t know Vegeta x Goku, Naruto x Sasuke, Killua x Gon, you see, the kind of brotherly bond transformed into couple ? I just can’t stand that. And I don’t like when people romanticizes abused relation ship either.

So Faye and Spike are from Cowboy Bebop (AKA the LEGEND), Akane and Shinya are from Psycho-Pass (AKA the anime of my heart)
