I need to say this

I am a booklover. I have books that are almost a century old. One of my favourites is Karel Capek's War with the newts, a book written between 1924 and 1928, published in 1928. In it, a bunch of intelligent newts are found, domesticated, trained for industry and tool usage, then for war.

Spoilers from beyond this point.

Eventually, for some reason not revealed until the last few pages, the newts go to war with humanity, bombing and shelling coastlines in organised warfare, and somehow they always have enough shells and bombs. Many nations, instead of fighting them, decide to try and settle old wars, including the then-recent Great War. It ends with a main character considering that anyone who has a coast is screwed. Then a newt shows up in the river near his home.

Then we get the final chapter, where the author talks to himself over how mankind screwed itself and if you read the included FOREIGN LANGUAGE documents, yu can piece together the main story that gone on in the background: every nation, every army,every bank fjnding and arming their newts, and one guy deciding to take control over them. This guy, a disgruntled Austrian artilleryman, who had a failed political carrer following The Great War, figured out how to use newts for his own advantages and declared war on the world.

Yep. Capek wrote a book about fascism and Hitler in 1928. Newts are just an allegory of creeping fascism, a science fiction coat over a then-very present event.

In War with the newts, when we first see this Austrian in the first few chapters, he is seen ordering newts in simple, basic commands. "Dig this", "cut that", "harpoon sharks", etc.

I do wish to expand on this, not just about nazism but related to that. We see two major trends in art lately: the removal of art archives, a sort of eternal present; and the rise of machines making art by command.

By removing archives, we forget what came before. We consume the art not for itself or joy, but because it exists now and then tossed away, forgotten, burned away. This way the same story can be sold numerous times and nothing new ever gets produced. This way we can not remember that we saw the angry Austrian artilleryman in chapter 1 of the book, because by the time we get to chapter ten, chapter one is gone. Forever.

Machine generated art is to circumvent the writer. To not have Capek write about this disgruntled Austrian who failed politics, but paint him as a hero, or the newts exterminating innocents on simple orders as a good thing - because machines can not object. Machines can not wave allegory, they just copy it off of each other, serve it up and then regurgitate it, like how newts had no idea what it means to write the letters up on a wall that read "only German newts are meant for greatness".

Yes, I am making anallusion while gushing about a book I love.

In todays' current state, War with the newts would be ignored and forgotten, while an angry Austrian artilleryman, who failed in politics, orders mindless machines to produce things for him. It won't be a war with shelling coasts and destroying innocents, obviously...

...until you see how many extremists, especially rightwing extremists, endorse the idea of using dead celebrities as their spokespeople, using machine algorythms to bring back the dead. How they hide behind these while history gets deleted forever.

The newts shown up in the rivers, holding a harpoon rifle and a bomb, not because they wanted to be there, but because an angry man ordered them to do that in his petty revenge against the coasts of the world he hates, to paraphrase Capek as the author in the book itself. Similarly, machines do not understand why it is a disguating atrocity to use a dead celebrity to spout their current xenophobia.

Protect our past art and help human artists; otherwise, we won't have art, but the waves of a dead ocean.

Little Vent about Fandom Cop Hypocricy

Something thats driving me crazy about the latest rise in puritain fandom behaviour is the rampant hypocricy. I usually dont interact with the fun police directly because they tend to be kids but recently the Twitter algorythm spat drama onto my timeline I just had to comment on. It was a bunch of below 20 year olds having a melt down over Persona 4 (I think) merch. Some 1001 Night type figure for one of the girl characters. I found the thing kinda tasteless but idk if a fan buys it to slap on their shelf sure why not? What bothered me wasnt even them demonizing the figure, but instead they dragged this semi private disagreement from discord to the public cest pool that is Twitter, without censoring names. They left out the context of what the figure looked like and just captioned it "Persona fandom failing to be normal" or something like this. Aka they publically dragged/shamed people and accused them of being "weird" (implications being made clear) I just kinda skimmed through the post and it was such a nothing burger, until I noticed that the offended poster was paddling the franchise in their bio and telling other people to buy the games etc. And I know the games include some way more weird shit than a sorta tacky figure. So on one hand they shame and drag people publically for disagreein on a piece of merch but throw their money on the company who in theory is to blame for the sexualization of these characters to begin with. Like maybe Im pedantic but this isnt a cake you can have and eat too in my opinion. If its such a huge deal then dont monetarily support the company making it. (Disclaimer, I dont think its a big deal that you like media with problematic aspects, because I agree that you can be critical of it and not engage with said aspects. It was the moral crusade I found dumb. Dont act like you´re holier than thou when you´re just a consumer too.) After I pointed that out one of their croonies did some wild gymnastics mentally to justify why they totally can be fandom cops while consuming "problematic media" Apperently they CAN just ignore and not engage, as long as they like the media enough. But try to get this shit accross with the Twitter character limit and kids who´s english is ass.

As an IT tech, It is extra annoying: you asked a machine learning algorythm to do your homework for you, did not checked, and tossed it out of the world? Where people believe any miainformation? And then PROMOTED IT solely because it is done by the BIG NEW FLASHY SHINY TOY of the year?

This isnhow we got people trying to clean their teeth with gunpowder and lace their houses with asbestos.

Mqchine learning algorythms trained on the internet shown time and time again that they learn patterns. Not anything but patterns. Where they not straight up steal content, they will make it up. We seen them lie about how there are no countries in Africa that start with a K, laughed on it... but it also says that there is no invasion of Ukraine, it is all made up by some global elite, or how trans people should be illegal, because the machine gets 10.000 misinformation-filled conspiracy theory off of the internet and notices that you follow "Ukraine" with "is not at war", despite the obvious fact that there is a war there.

These "AI" writings are nothing but biased autofills and because nobody seem to bother checking them, and everyone praises it as a solution to REPLACE people whose jobs are to read, factcheck and figure things out, I feel this is inherently for the lazy people who don't care about the truth.

It's by Silicon Valley techbros who failed to hop on the buttcoins and who could not sell links online for gulliable people, but they figured out how to pump out 50.000 articles on the cheap, so they get 1 dollar per article; the lublisher is happy, someone does it on past below minimum wage. The techbro isbhappy, they did nothing but wrote a prompt. Then the lies get peinted and published.

I don't have twitter, what's going on over there

Something about Twitter's new owner wanting to make the website a pay to win; Boosting Twitter Blue's users posts on top priority than anybody else. That somehow evolved into unabling everybody who didn't pay to show up at all, that evolving into "this will take place TOMORROW" (said on November 6th, would take action today, November 7th). So there was another attempt to flee to Tumblr and make it their new home, attempts that had happened in the past but (thankfully) fail as the majority refuse to adapt to this social media's non existent algorythm and culture we have develop through years (Basically come here expecting to work exactly like twitter and get pissed it doesnt

And today is the "big day" and nothing happened, now some say it was delayed and other is cancelled

As you can see, is misinformation and panic spreading through the people by half baked tweets by regular users, I haven't seen any "serious" news soucre (I'm not even talking about online newspapers) detailing what's going on, what did Elon really said or what was the plan, when he mention the shift would happen etc. One thing are ideas, the other coding actions

Doyoung's day

Boss was my introduction to Doyoung, the scene with locks left an impression, hence my choice of the picture.

Doyoung won't read this post, so I won't write congratulations and wishes to him.

Instead I'd like to touch on him as an idol.

We live in an era of everyone pretending to be someone they are not, doing better than they are, posing. In addition, new social media algorythms can make someone famous and rich in a day through a random choice. With idols we can see the development, the obstacles, the struggles. See that the initial talent is only 5-10% of the success, everything else is hard work. And that everything comes with a price. Some idols are really a good example to follow, talented determined people to be inspired with. And Doyoung is one of them.

Doyoung has his own fears and insecurities, he also sticks to something he knows. The drama and the musical taught him to not be afraid of going out of the comfort zone. He says he now is interested in new challenges even. Sometimes there are failures (4 season's winter album, Jaehyun's drama cancellation), but sometimes there are rewards (Do's success with both the drama and the musical). The hardest part is to keep going and try again if the first or the second attempt failed. And yet, there are people who win on their 8th or even 10th attempt.

My favourite Doyoung's quote is "If I promised something to myself, I will do it". Indeed, we become our own enemies if we betray a promise with oneself. We can have the help of other people, but at the end of the day, we are the directors and the managers of our own lives. Doyoung isn't there where he is now because he slacked or pitied himself, he worked and improved, took pauses to "lie on the floor", waited out bad days, and still continued on his path again.

So let's continue on 2022 as well.

like i cannot emphasize that the blog wasn't like a blog it was like a template of an "aesthetic" blog, a soulless vessel, perhaps even aware of its own emptiness that it punished you for daring to look at it, for trying to find sense in its vast sea of white rooms and white women in plain white swimwear. the only hints that it was run by a person and was not a mere result of an algorythm or just was a white minimalistic brochure was the owner every now and then answering asks about how they liked their own content so they didnt want to change it. yet again these pictures didn't tell a story, they caused you nothing. there is failing at delivering a message, but these pics were never intended to have a message, a nothingness that felt like a void. plastic would have felt more human, more organic than anything there

Why animal cruelty is not acceptable.

Today I wanted to write about cruelty free lifestyle, because it is my biggest conviction that torturing animals could be stopped and we should all raise awareness. The main thing about animal cruelty is that it is unnecessary. There are a lot of sides to this, for example treating out pets correctly, or making sure that the animals we eat had bearable living conditions, but also some lesser-known aspects like animal testing.

 This is a topic that I have dived in more deeply for my German language exam, but it is very close to my heart. Many people have no idea, that an animal dies in every 3 seconds in an experimental laboratory, because we use them to test cosmetics, medicine, and even cleaning supplies. These animals, mostly rats and bunnies, but also sometimes dogs and other pets are starved, poisoned, infected with various sicknesses, sleep deprived and tortured to death for the sake of ‘science’. 

The truth is, that this brutality and cruetly could all be avoided, if researchers would be open minded to the new, alternative methods. In-vitro tests, artifical skin cells and algorythms can all be used instead of hurting animals, but sadly scientists do not take the time to change the old habits. But the thing that many people do not realize is that animals have feelings too. They experience fear and pain just as we do, and they have the instinct to pass on their genes to their whelps. Being in a cage almost 24 hours a day sounds not exactly fun, and they live their whole lives - very short ones too - like that. And most of them die even before the tests can show result, not to mention the fact that later on 90% of these tests fail when it comes to putting it in use for humans. 

The least we can do about it is being mindful. There are plenty of cosmetics, and household items that are cruelty-free, meaning that they were not tested on animals. All it takes is a little research, because al of them can be found in our hipermarkets, we just don’t know about it. 

I know these facts sound overdramatic, but I truly believe that animals have rights too, the right to live a happy life. I am certainly not saying, that we can save them from all harm, because in the nature they would die one way or another; but that is the circle of life, it is necessary. Animal cruelty is not.

Hello Huh-nim I hope you are doing well.

I find it interesting you like talent shows. I do not know why, but I feel that most of them are biased at times and I lose interest quite fast. I do like AGT (America's Got Talent) and the other Got Talent shows in other countries. I really like the first initial try out and then I start to lose interest when it goes on to see who will win it all. It could be said the same for Korean shows like Produce series, A or B or What?, Sixteen (Twice Show), etc.

I do believe many Korean talent search shows do hype up performance talents more than singers. I never understood why. I agree with that SM really lucked on 4 seasons, but SM always find good/great singers. SM in general usually does well with balancing their groups unlike other companies I know.

Speaking of the narrative of "my underdog bias", I am sure you have seen the show The UNIT. For those who haven't it was an interesting concept of giving debut idols a second chance who were from not so successful groups. Unfortunately, it did not do well to gain public recognition. It truly is based on luck when it comes to getting recognition. same could be said for individual talent as well.

With members like Yuta, Winwin, and others their talents shine else where and many people fail to see that. It's always about my bias did not get any parts or was hardly seen in the MV/performance. I believe this is the influence of the age of videos going viral. It really pains me that everything needs to be viral in order for it to be a success -_-'

Korean talent shows are usually dissapointing, so I drop them or skip a lot. I don't watch AGT, the short clips I see about the show make me think I won't like the format and the judges. I did watch a lot ot The Voice seasons from 3 English speaking countries. And all seasons and most of spin offs of Project Runway, heh. Ah, ANTP in the past. I watched traditional art, acapella and dance shows as well.

Agree. Idol agencies prefer looks and dancing skills to singing. SM secures a spot for a couple of good singers and allows them to lack in other areas (both Taeil and Doyoung at debut weren't visuals or good dancers). I get a feeling that producers who are musicians themselves (like the head of Mamamoo's company) care about vocals, while others don't want the additional work and rely on looks and sex appeal.

I watch talent shows for the contestants who pursue their dreams, for that hunger. And it's interesting to see "young geniuses" as they are exeptional people and differ from people around me (I'm the weird one in any company usually). One of the reasons Doyoung is my bias is his ambition and how he stands out even among idols.

Heh, I haven't seen The Unit, I heard of it though. I think I didn't check it because the groups weren't successful, so I saw no reason to invest.

A lot of depends on producers. Look at Omega-X, a group created from ex-members. It does pretty well, considering covid and all. And it does well because the group occupied a free nishe (Latin music inspired k-pop, SA as the main target) and the music is both gp friendly and good. On the other hand, Black6ix had a good first album, but a weak second one, and the pandemic ended the group despite the members having decent (for a non-SM group) vocals.

Or take StayC. Pretty average girls, but a smart producer.

I think many fans don't realise how they use their biases as "champion horses" to compete with one another, to cater to own insecurities and feel better and superior by being above somebody else. Instead of being happy for bias' improvements and new achievements or for being content with his life, fans need something to measure against other members or other units/groups. Sometimes it as absurd as the number of views under fancams or the number of sold merch at a particular shop.

Well, YT views matter because they show interest and the yt algorythm recommends popular MVs to new audience. However, there is a treshold above which views stop being that important. Many girl groups (like Everglow) have MVs with high viewerships, but they don't sell more albums than some other groups with much fewer views. EXO is a super popular bg, but I was surprised to know that almost none of their songs topped Gaon chart in SK. Taeyeon or Taemin don't sell many albums and don't have viral MVs, yet they earn enough and are widely recognised and respected.

It was nice to see NCT together again, eventhough the same lot ended up taking all the screentime, heh. Doil were on fire especially that day.

Two things stood out to me: 1) Doyoung asking XJ if YY started to eat, 2) Taeyong saying Sungchan and co are too nice, Doil need to go to make the fight spectacular.

And the best JaeDo moment was Jaehyun coming in to help with the fight for the ball and making Yuta leave the fight by nudging him away with the whole body. Doyoung wanted the ball, Jaehyun made sure he got it, heh. I still don't understand why there is no "I'll help you hide the body" type of fic.

What was your opinion on the Saeran route?

Well, let me preface this by saying that I basically skimmed through the route, because I was so busy with my new job and university, that I never had the time to actually sit down and properly read through everything. I just kind of pressed the replies that would get me the good end and then failed to get either of the bad ends twice in a row, so my opinion is not fully formed yet. As of my feelings towards the route so far; there were things I absolutely loved and things I didn’t quite enjoy as much. Let’s start with the things that I loved:- I loved that much likes V’s route it was set in Mint Eye. I already expected this, but it was still nice to have it happen. Although it is a shame that they wasted it on V as well, since it would have been more impactful to really only have Saeran’s Route revolve around Mint Eye

- I loved, loved, loved those days when we were cut off from the RFA. That’s what I’d hoped to have more off in the other routes and what they lacked, in my opinion. That one on one time with the romancable character was really great, especially since I had a whole day of it without those side plots I never really could make myself care for.- Although I haven’t managed to actually get the bad ends yet - despite trying really hard, Cheritz fucked with the algorythm a little to make it near impossible to get them if you started too strong and try the safe and load thing - I know what they are about and I love having those options, although I will discuss this in more detail in another ask about what I’d love to see in a Saeran route so keep an eye out for that- Last but not least I also loved that you really got the proof that Ray is actually Saeran’s real personality and ‘Saeran’ was created by Rika’s elixir and manipulation; something I called months and months ago and people still questions. I also liked getting to know all the different aspects of his personality.Now as for the things I didn’t like…:- As with the V route I don’t like that it’s set in the past. I just don’t care for the time line of it and how little sense it all makes. Especially with the flash backs into the past you can tell how much Cheritz messed up the age differences of these characters and how little sense the time line actually makes and that frustrated me. - Everyone who knows me knows that Saeran and Jumin are my absolute bae’s, but I have to admit that Ray wasn’t really my cup of tea. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely adore Saeran and all his sides - Ray very much included - but the Saeran we get in the normal/deep route is a somewhat middle ground between Ray and past!Saeran (for lack of better word). I liked the balance between the good and evil, whereas Ray is way to cute and sweet for me and past!Saeran way to twisted in a silly way. They seemed like caricatures and I didn’t really enjoy it as much as I could have. This whole self self-deprecating and then extremely hateful jumble made it less enjoyable and in my opinion quite toxic for younger players, but that might just be me- I absolutely hated that Rika got away. Again! I am so seriously tired of her always somehow surviving and striving after every route while other people suffer. I especially hated the circumstances of it in this route. I wish I could say I’m surprised that V went back to her - and let her blind him…Again - but I’m not. I still find it dumb. I’d hoped that they make V somewhat smarter in this route but since his own route already disappointed me, I’m not surprised that this instance doesn’t change anything either. I just wish she’d die already. Just one route where she gets what she deserves, where she gets back what she dished out. - The side plot’s were extremely boring to me, although as I said I glossed over them so who knows, I might find them more entertaining when I get more emerged. However as they stand, I couldn’t have cared less for Zen and Yoosung trying to get Zen into the copyright version of Dr Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde and even less for Jumin stitching. I mean where the fuck did that come from? I’m sorry but I thought that to be extremely out of character for him. Stitching is quite pointless and not beneficial to him in any way, which Jumin always tends to make everything about. Practicality and benefits. Stitching fits in neither of those. Also what happened to Jaehee? She was basically just there to summarize all the events that transpired over and over. I get that she is mainly a filler character to Cheritz ‘cause she’d female and all but damn, talk about wasted potential. The whole thing with Saeyoung just annoyed me. It took the focus off of Saeran and it was so, so pointless for him to disappear in the end. There was more than enough drama, they didn’t need to add that. But hey, Korean’s are all about that over the top drama so who’s really surprised hereConclusion:So all in all, this might sound a little more negative than it really is. It’s probably still my favourite route and not just because Saeran is my favourite character. However, I see certain flaws - some people might not - that made it less enjoyable than it could have been, since it had great potential. As I said, I’ll dedicate a whole post to how I would have handled the Saeran route and why. I also can’t wait to see how they’ll finish both routes of with the After Ending, because I feel like there is enough material for like a whole Secret Ending thing for each of them so we’ll see. Until then, take my opinion as not fully formed with a big grain of salt.

Sun insists in riding their bus and sit at the first row of seats, every single day and welcome passengers personally, despite being unable to talk, and then Y/n gives him 5 euros to go and grab some ice cream during their break/at the end of their sjift and every time he comes back with the biggest cup he could buy and pretends to eat it in your place

Moon climbs on top of anything he can see when y/n brings him outside in the late enening and you have no way to make him get down except pspspsing at him

He climbs on top of monuments, houses, historical buildings and street lights, he misses his wires and wants to be in high places like a cat

Both he and Sun HATE from the depth of their meral heart the escalators because moving ground conflicts HARD with their pathfinding protocols
