Color Cards for sale
Or: Custom nails!
There's now an updated post with more color cards here!
Want some professional looking stick/glue-on nails on a budget for yourself or someone else? Since I am still unemployed and my wife makes these stunning creations as art therapy, we're looking to sell them to keep us afloat and do things like buy food until I have a new job. (She already owned all the nail stuff.) So, if you want a set of truly gorgeous nails, take a look and contact me here or on that one chat app starting with a 'D' where I am also sl_walker.
Nails will be sent in a padded envelope with cardboard to protect them, though I might clip the longer color cards in two for mailing. Shipping is free! Probably you'll also get a handwritten note and maybe even a sketch from me. Several of these nail sets are three hours or more of work! And as you can see, they really are beautiful. Just ignore my very amateur photography, Tumblr's assholish image compression and the occasional cat hair. I promise I won't send any kitty dna with the nails. And you can also contact me and ask me for a set of pics emailed without compression.
As they're sold, I'll update this post by striking those through! And YES! SHE DOES CUSTOMS! If you want a custom color card (or loose nails once you know your sizes! I'll try to write the sizes on the color cards when I can see them), just contact me with a description and we'll let you know if she's able to do it. She can do cat meme nails, no joke. Or like-- fandom themed. So please do feel free to ask after that.
Also, if you request it, I'll throw in a little tube of nail glue, too.
1.) Autumn's Coming - $40
Stunning set of thirty nails, which means that you'll be able to find your exact size, but you might be able to wear a couple different sizes and have nails enough for two sets, too! Amidst the gorgeous fall-themed colors, you have cats eye magnetic metallic nails, plain color, blossom decals and a gorgeous coppery metallic crackle. They're shorter and with a blunt tip; in fact, I'm wearing a set right now, albeit in a different color theme.
Tumblr media
2.) Midcentury Modern - $26 (sold!)
A fun and lively set of thirty nails, including three half-sizes for more granular sizing. These stand out with flat orange and teal meeting beautiful holos in turquoise, navy, red-orange and orange! These have a sharper tip and look elegant as hell, no joke. Great for anyone who really wants to draw people's eyes to their hands or, if you're like me, just stand under bright light and stare at how pretty they are.
Tumblr media
3.) Good Omens - $30
This is a set of thirty nails. My wife's a huge fan of Sir Terry (sorry about the other guy) and so she came up with a Good Omens set! The red is metallic and magnetic cats eye with silver and white decals, while the white nails are themed in gold. I can definitely attest to how pretty these are, since she also made me a set of my own; I'm wearing them as I type (badly because I'm not used to wearing nails) and they're pretty enough for me to learn how to type with nail tips. LOL! She said to warn whoever bought them that she had to glue one back to the card. Sorry about that! It doesn't affect the nail itself.
Tumblr media
4.) Thinking of Spring - $36
Another set of thirty, this time more spring-themed! With some popping magnetic metallic green cats eyes interpersed with some softer pink/orange metallic magnetic starbursts, cats eye and be-dazzled, you also have the lovely decals adorning the white nails, too. This is another beautiful set that reflects a similar quality to the autumn themed nails.
Tumblr media
5.) Dusky - $26
A set of thirty, these are relatively simple by comparison: Done in a dusky metallic magnetic cats eye on one side and a brilliant, eyepopping holo on the other, they're classy and beautiful.
Tumblr media
6.) Better Call Prince - $24
This fun set of twenty-four is absolutely sparkly; with metallic purple on one side and purple holo on the other, all of them also have holographic decals on them! They're busy, but if you're a redneck like me (or just really love sparkly things!) they'll make you oooh when you see them live!
Tumblr media
7.) Pride - $18
This is a set of twenty-four. My wife actually made these for me, but they're too long for me. But boy, they sure are pretty. With the silver cats eye magnetic metallic on one side and the glittery rainbow on the other, this is a great set for you if you want something pretty with a relatively low price-tag!
Tumblr media
8.) The Art of Subtlety - $18
This set of twenty-four is actually more gorgeous the brighter the light. All one set, all the same, these beautiful cats eyes in a sedate blue actually have a subtle holo effect on top of the loveliness that is that magnetic metallic polish; I wasn't able to capture it, but it's there! These are great for business people who like to have pretty nails to tap on a table top as illustration for their annoyance while still having that whimsical underlying hint of color.
Tumblr media
9.) Slightly Better Than Business Casual - $16
This set of twenty-four is what my wife calls 'scratch and dent', not because they aren't pretty, but because there are a few minor flaws in the finish of the tips on the teal side. Despite that, they're a damn pretty set and will feed the cats for a few days!
Tumblr media
10.) Where There's Smoke - $26
The first set of matte nails on offer! This set of thirty (eleven regular, three half-sizes) is three different shades of matte gray, one more silvery/metallic and two more literally smoke-colored. Perfect for someone looking for that bit of elegance, no reflective topcoat necessary!

COMMON QUESTIONS
"Will you draw more than one character?"
Yes! Any additional characters will be an extra charge of 60% of the original commission price you paid! This is the rate PER CHARACTER
-----
"Will you draw my fursona? Is it okay if it's a made up species?"
Yes, and yes! Though it may take a little longer depending on the species. I'm still learning fursonas and animals, myself!
-----
"Should I attach references?"
YES!! I need something to work with, so I REQUIRE at least one character visual and/or one pose reference of what you'd like me to draw!
-----
"Do revisions cost anything?"
You can change and revise the initial rough sketch as many times as you like for free! ANY and ALL changes/revisions AFTER the sketch has been approved will run at $10 PER CHANGE
-----
"Should I pay up front?"
Yes! I WILL NOT BEGIN THE DRAWING PROCESS UNTIL THE BASE COMMISSION PRICE HAS BEEN PAID IN FULL (revision fees, and added character fees, of course, will be added before you receive your finished piece)
-----
"When can I expect my commission to be finished?"
It really depends on the commission type, complexity of character(s), revisions/changes, and my personal schedule (school/work/family/etc)
You can expect your commission to be finished any time between 3 days and 2 weeks. Anything that takes longer than 2 weeks without prior notice (meaning it was UNEXPECTED) will result in a 20% refund of the total amount paid.

FtM Hysto Recovery + Tips (Plus general tips for dealing with low/no spoons or recovering from any surgery)
I haven't been on Tumblr for years, but recently re-joined to check out art, as I start to work on getting my idea for a graphic novel off the ground (as well as getting serious about improving my art again). However, I'm hoping these first few posts get found by an entirely different audience. This is being written in 2023.
I'm going in for a laparoscopic hysterectomy on Thursday (today is Monday) and want to share my experience, as much as spoons will allow, so that other people can hopefully benefit in the future. I, personally, have struggled to find things online that fit my situation as a trans man with a history of pre-cancerous pap smears, abnormal bleeding, PID and ovarian cysts (but not PCOS). Although hysterectomies for "GRS" or gender affirming surgery purposes are easy to get where I live, mine in particular is primarily being done to avoid cancer and to stop the abnormal bleeding and random debilitating pain that comes out of nowhere every few years and upends my life for weeks/months. So if you're someone facing the prospect of a laparoscopic hysterectomy, regardless of your gender identity, and have a history of medical issues (but not PCOS or endometriosis) in your reproductive region, this blog may help you! Or, alternatively, if you're a trans man looking to get a laparoscopic hysterectomy, whether or not you've had issues in that region, this might help you, too!
It should be noted that this is written from the perspective of someone in their 30s with a complicated medical history, including Type 2 Diabetes and a very rare kidney disease (which has an average life expectancy of 29 years for men, but we aren't sure how it affects trans men), so the pre-surgery process I've been through is not the typical one. I also have chronic pain and know from my past experiences with very severe pain that a) I have a low tolerance for any pain beyond what I deal with day-to-day and b) I have a high tolerance for opiate pain medication, which means it takes a higher dose for me to address the level of pain that a lower dose would address in someone else. These both affect the length of time that I'll likely need to be on painkillers, and how functional I'll be while I'm on them. This, in turn, affects how quickly I'll be able to do things like return to work and driving.
I should also note that although it's common in some places for this surgery to be completed as day surgery, my jurisdiction almost always keeps people in overnight; this is because it takes almost 24 hours for the anesthetic to work its way out of your system, and until it does they won't have a true indication of your pain levels and, therefore, won't be able to make sure it's adequately controlled before sending you home. It's much easier (in my experience, and according to the doctors!) to stop you from having pain in the first place than to get it under control once you do.
Also, I live with my partner and a roommate, and my retired parents are about 90 minutes away and have a guest room. My support network isn't huge, but it's high quality. My partner managed to get 3 days off work for my surgery and the 2 days following, and after that is on a light workload for about a week in case she needs to take care of me. She also has a lot of flexibility with her job, and her boss really likes me, so if there are complications or she needs to spend more time at home to look after me, I don't think it's completely out of the question. All of this is to say that I'm going into this surgery from a very privileged place, in terms of not having to do much to look after myself in the aftermath. My surgeon did advise me, however, to take 1 week (for sure) off work if I could, and that I may need a second week. My work consists of two research jobs that draw heavily on my brain power, but don't require me to move around at all, especially as I work from home, so the issue is the painkillers, rather than actual healing time. Other jobs will require different amounts of time off work.
Because I'm neurodivergent and like to have as many details as possible about ... literally everything, I'm going to make this as detailed as I can. Essentially, I'm hoping to share everything I know and experience without leaving anything out. If it's too much detail for you, I'm going to be doing my best to include useful headers.
Notification of Surgery & Lead-up
I received notice about my surgery just over a month before my surgery date; it was around June 26th that I was emailed and told my surgery would be on August 3rd. I had previously met my surgeon in January, and was told it would be a 6-8 month wait until surgery. Between that appointment and being given my surgery date, I'd had bloodwork done, as well as an internal ultrasound. I've had several internal ultrasounds before and while they are far from pleasant, they are not as dysphoria-inducing for me as they are for other trans men, I'm sure. I am more physically uncomfortable during them than mentally/spiritually uncomfortable.
In the notification email, my surgeon sent additional attachments; about 200 pages of information from a) their office specifically and b) the health authority [one document about hysterectomies, one document about recovering from surgery in general]. These documents answered most of my questions, and also had instructions about fasting, pre-surgery instructions (there's a special sponge I have to buy and use the night before surgery and the morning of surgery) and recovery information. The documents were very generic, and because they came from different sources, the information was sometimes contradictory. I, personally, took the information on board in this order of trustworthiness:
Things my surgeon had said in-person during my consultation appointment in January
Things included in the information from my surgeon's office directly
Things included in the documents from the health authority
If there were contradictions that seemed extremely important (e.g. one document said to wash everything my face with the special sponges, while another said, in all caps, to absolutely NOT wash my head or face with the sponges), I followed-up with the surgeon's office or the most appropriate person (e.g. pharmacist).
Pre-surgery Appointments
Because of my medical history (diabetes and Alport's Syndrome), I had an extra step in here. My surgeon required me to have a consultation with my internal medicine doctor's clinic (but not with my specialist) to get the all-clear and make sure my risk level wasn't too high. This doctor made some assumptions about the medications I'm taking, which led him to think I had both diabetes and a heart condition, which would have put me in a much higher risk category. Because of that, he ordered extra bloodwork, and an ECG, and booked a follow-up with me for a few days later. That initial appointment with him ended on the assumption that the surgery likely would be postponed. However, the bloodwork and ECG all came back fine, and at the follow-up he gave me the all-clear and said my risk wasn't very high at all.
I had a few other pre-surgery appointments.
One was with the surgeon. In my case, the doctor actually doing my surgery is a resident colleague of the surgeon I initially consulted with. Now that I had a specific date for the surgery, and my life situation had changed a bit since the consultation (e.g. work), I asked to meet with the surgeon to ask questions that had come up since the initial consultation, and so that I could meet the person who would be cutting into me and make sure I was comfortable with her. She answered all my questions really well, and it turned out I was more comfortable with her than the original surgeon. This was a quick 5-10 minute talk, but I highly recommend asking for it, even if your surgeon hasn't changed. You'll have another chance to talk to your surgery just before being wheeled into the OR, but you'll be nervous and may be medicated by then, and it's just nice to have this conversation ahead of time and in an environment where you can look at a list of questions you've written down, and actually pay attention to the answers.
The hospital required another two appointments before surgery:
The pharmacist
About a week before my surgery, the pharmacist called for 5-10 minutes to discuss my current medications, supplements, vitamins and holistic medicines (if I were taking any) and to find out what time of day I take them at. Easy peasy.
2. The anesthetist
Exactly a week before my surgery, the anesthetist called to discuss the operation itself and the anesthetic. I'm not sure if the doctor I talked to will be the anesthetist who is actually in the room with me, or if it was just her job that particular day to call and get the information that will get passed onto the one who will be in the room. She was very nice, and explained the method of anesthesia, as well as how I'll likely feel when I wake up, etc. She also saw on my chart that I have a history of chronic pain, and zeroed in on my back and shoulder. She asked if there are any positions that make me more comfortable, and then explained the position I'd be in for my surgery -- tipped back toward my head -- and that this sometimes gives people back and shoulder pain even if they don't have any to begin with. She said my arms would be alongside my body, fairly tight to it, and I said that would be fine. I practiced laying them beside my body later that day and promptly discovered that's actually pretty painful for one arm, but I'll mention that when I get there and hope for the best! If I was having the conversation again, I'd answer by saying I wasn't sure how that would feel but that I'd practice it before the surgery day to see, and then ask who I could talk to if it turned out there's a better position or if that one wouldn't work. Ultimately though, the surgery should be 1.5 hours to 4 hours at most, so I'm not overly concerned. What you should take away from this if you're having this surgery and don't already have back/shoulder pain is that you might wake up with some, but that it should go away in a day or maybe a little less. This type of surgery also requires the surgeon to inflate your belly with gas in order to make room for the scopes and so that they can see what they're doing. That gas can stick around for a day, sometimes two, according to the anesthetist and can be a little bit painful or uncomfortable. I can't remember anything else that came out of this conversation.
In terms of pre-surgery appointments, that was it.
Tips and Tricks for Being Prepared
The next little bit is information I acquired through talking to my therapist (who's had several laparoscopic surgeries!) and many hours of research online, as well as living as a person who often has few spoons.
Get your first 1-2 weeks of meals planned and ready in advance. For me, this means I've picked up a large number of cans of Alphaghetti-type foods, and I'll be buying as many frozen meals as I can but have VERY little freezer room because my partner and I share with our tenant. Other options include things like HelloFresh, identifying nights when it will be easier for your partner if you order food in (if you can afford to), making big batches of food leading up to surgery while you're well and then freezing them, creating a list of meals you'd appreciate friends bringing over [remind them to bring them in disposable containers, so you don't have to feel guilty when it takes you weeks to get the containers back to them!], etc
Buy some Depends/adult diapers. I bought store brand (Life brand, specifically, which is Canadian) ones. The only ones I could get were maximum absorbency unless I wanted to pay twice the price for name brand ones, but I suspect I could do with a minimum absorbency one. I bought the underwear-style ones. In the store brand, they don't look very underwear-like at all, but if you have more money to spend, some of the name brand ones look convincingly like underwear! I also bought 'Unisex' ones, but would have bought womens if the unisex ones weren't an option; I suspect the mens' might have a built-in bulge area that would be awkward for me. The point of the adult diapers is that their 'waistband' is not a traditional waistband -- it's about 8" tall, very thin, and crinkle-cut so that it doesn't put pressure on your skin. This will stop you from having clothing pushing on your incision sites. BONUS is that they ARE absorbent, so you won't have to also wear pads to deal with discharge (which can, apparently, last for 6 weeks). Try the Depends on for a day a few days before surgery. Yes, it will be awkward and you'll feel silly. I am literally sitting in bed, with nothing wrong with me, wearing nothing but an adult diaper and a tee shirt while my partner's at work. But this has 2 purposes: 1) chances are you haven't worn these before, and you want to make sure you've got the most comfortable ones you can in terms of fit and style; 2) if you've worn them once already, it'll be familiar when you go to put it on when you're ready to leave the hospital; you'll know which side is the back and which side is the front, and the 'weirdness' of wearing them will be less unsettling. You're going to have other weird stuff going on, this doesn't have to be yet another weird thing happening!
If you live alone or your partner doesn't (or can't) change the sheets, layer sheets on the bed. That's right, layer your mattress with bottom sheets. That way, you can peel the top one off and have a cleaner sheet beneath it. It won't be the same as being able to sleep on a fresh, clean sheet straight out of the cupboard or dryer, but it's going to be better than the one you've slept, sweat or, universe forbid, bled on.
Get a LEAKPROOF (truly) travel mug with a handle. After surgery you'll have maybe one comfortable position to lay in. You're not going to want to get out of that position to retrieve your water, but you're also going to need to be drinking a lot of water (it helps you recover, and also helps get your bowels moving again). Being able to lose your water in the bed is a luxury, but a necessary one. I got mine at Winners for pretty cheap.
Get a nightie or onesie. I usually sleep naked. I don't really own pyjamas -- when I need to cover up to sleep (like when I visit friends or travel), I throw on a pair of joggers, or boxer briefs. But those both have waistbands and, remember, we're trying to avoid waistbands. I ordered a sleep shirt from Oodie, which was on sale, but still expensive (I paid around $60, including 1-2 business day shipping because I didn't think of it until the last minute), as well as a halloween one-sie from Old Navy that's apparently leftover from last year's halloween stock. I'm expecting the onesie to be way too hot, but I need something I can wear out in public in case I have to get groceries, or pick something up at the pharmacy, or stand outside because the building's burning, without exposing myself. I also borrowed a robe to go over the sleep shirt when I leave the hospital.
Have whoever's picking you up bring 2 pillows. One goes between your abdomen and the seatbelt, and you sit on the other one.
Have whoever's picking you up bring fast food. When you leave the hospital you're going to either be ravenously hungry or feel like you never want to eat again. Either way, fast food is going to be the one thing you didn't realize you needed so badly in your life until that moment. Your body's going to be craving carbs and fat, and fat is also what's going to help your pain pills kick in.
Have ice cream, chips or other junk food on hand. This is mostly so that you have something to eat when you take your pain pills. Fatty foods help opiates work faster; as someone who takes them several times a month for chronic pain, I've sometimes noticed a difference of -hours- between taking them with fatty foods and taking them on their own.
Get a walking aid. We use our abdomens for everything. If you don't already have something like a cane, pick one up. Keep the receipt though; if you don't end up using it, you can usually take them back. With that said, my therapist said it's at about the 2 week mark when you feel like you actually need one. If you don't have a cane but you have walking/hiking sticks, dig them out and keep them handy.
Grab some baby wipes. You can get laparoscopic incisions wet, but that doesn't mean you're going to feel like you have the energy or endurance to shower right away. You're still going to want to keep your pits and bits clean.
If you take daily medications, organize them in a pill organizer. Things can get confusing when you're on painkillers, or when a partner is dishing out your meds. You know exactly how many you take, and how often, so the best way to approach this is to get a pill organizer and get all your doses for a week ready before your surgery. Monday AM, Monday PM, Tuesday AM, Tuesday PM, that kind of thing. There's nothing worse than being on painkillers and trying to remember if you've already taken That Very Important Medication You Can't Miss or not. Or, worse, not even realizing you've missed something that can give you withdrawal symptoms, and suddenly waking up a few days after surgery feeling worse than you've ever felt in your life and wondering if you need to go to the ER, only to have it turn out that you missed your meds.
Buy something for yourself that you can look forward to. I bought a video game that I've wanted for a couple of years that was finally on sale. I haven't touched it, and won't until sometime after surgery when I feel up to it. Giving yourself a little reward when you're going through something hard is always nice.
If you're diabetic...take a minute before your surgery to remind your partner/anyone you live with/anyone who's going to be looking after you about how and when to check your blood sugars, what numbers are abnormal for you, and what to do about them. Being ill or recovering from a surgery can really throw your diabetes out of whack, even if it's well-controlled beforehand, and recovering from surgery might make you feel a lot of the same symptoms you'd feel from a hypo/hyper or DKA, so make sure you (or someone else) test your sugars regularly and have things on hand to deal with abnormal or worrying results.
Take your phone everywhere. Painkillers (and pain) can make us unsteady. As someone who's taken a fall and had to wait hours for my partner to wake up and find me and help me back to my feet (and then bed), I don't recommend it.
These are the things I know about pre-surgery, but I'll try to update...eventually if I learn anything new post-surgery.

One-Shot Commissions
My Ko-Fi and Patreon are not up yet. Commissions will open in the next few weeks.
You can commission one of these target lengths for different prices! I may go a bit (or even a lot) over the word count you pay for, but I'll never go under it!
- $10 for 1000 words
- $20 for 3000 words (33% off)
- $30 for 5000 words (40% off!)
- $50 for 10,000 words (50% off!)
You can also commission fics as part of your Agent 3 or Agent 8 Tier Patreon benefits!
- Agent 3 - 1000 words one time after three months ($9)
- 1000 words every month ($8)
- 3000 words every two months ($16)
- 5000 words every three months ($24)
- 10,000 words every five months ($40)
These are the fandoms I'm most comfortable writing in!
- Splatoon
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Voltron
- Avatar: the Last Airbender
- Super Mario
- Haikyuu!
- Sasaki to Miyano
- Sk8 the Infinity
- Miraculous
- Star vs. the Forces of Evil
- Percy Jackson and the Olympians + all Riordanverse
- Harry Potter (including The Cursed Child)
- The Hunger Games
- MCU
If your fic commission is not on this list or if it's OC, there will be an extra $5 fee, and you'll have to provide me an example of how you want your characters written, preferably 5000-10,000 words of fic or any canon content. (Find a specific example, I'm not watching all 1049 episodes of One Piece for you lol.)
Fic Translation Commissions
I can also translate any fic for you, regardless of fandom!
Languages I'm most confident in:
Spanish --> English
French --> English
Other languages I will accept:
English -> Spanish
English -> French
(Not currently accepting Japanese <--> English, but I will eventually)
Pricing
Translations are really fun, and they don't require as much planning! I'm offering them at half the price of a Fic Commission. Fics longer than 10,000 words will be charged as $2.5 per 1000 words, which is half the rate of a 10,000-word fic commission. Very long fics may be subject to additional charges.
Commissions FAQ
How can I get in contact with you if I have any questions not answered here?
Please e-mail me at [email protected]. Trying to communicate with me through Patreon, Ko-Fi, or Tumblr may result in your message getting lost.
How soon will my commission be done?
That'll depend on how many commissions I have in line, how big the commission is, and on other life factors. You can get the most up-to-date information by contacting me with the e-mail above. Feel free to ask before paying.
Are you willing to you draw/write...?
Another thing you should e-mail me for! I don't have a set list of will/will-not  because I think that context is important, and it makes the most sense to to me to take them on a case-by-case basis. You should always contact me first before paying anything for a commission, just in case I can't make it for any reason. I promise I won't judge, it'll be a polite "no" at worst. Most likely, I'll try to work out a compromise!
That being said, I'm least likely to accept commissions with gore (I'm more flexible on this with fic than with art), incest, and cis women in sexual situations. I may also reject a commission if I don't feel qualified to write about it (e.g. a story centered around the intricate details of Ramadan, a story written from the perspective of a blind person).
How will I receive my commission?
Your commission will be posted on Patreon as a public post, so you can see it even if you're not a Patron!
If you want your commission delivered privately, it'll be a $5 fee, and we can discuss how to deliver it.
What can I do with my commission?
Post anywhere with credit (ikatako38)
Edit and post (please note about how much you contributed, and which parts, if necessary)
If you edit and post to AO3, I should be credited as a co-author.
What CAN'T I do with my commission?
Post without credit or otherwise pass off as your own.
Sell it to someone else

8/30/24: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." This week's characters from my anthro WWII storyline are siblings Jet and Jade. They're on the 2002 character list as French partisans but other than that were never developed. I'm starting to come up with their story only now; there'll be more about them later in my art Tumblr and Toyhou.se.
Regarding their design, Jet is likely (though not necessarily) melanistic, whereas Jade is obviously albino--the second character to be such, after Doomsday Rat. There's a scar across Jade's nose to bring a bit of individuality. Certain design notes would be a spoiler, so see the Tumblr entry for more.
TUMBLR EDIT: I'll cover both siblings under the same entry and truncate the latter one.
Jade's and Jet's original bios from the 2002 character list are thus:
JADE: French partisan, sister of Jet. Appears in sequel
JET: French partisan, brother of Jade. Appears in sequel
Judging by Jade's character design, this may be rather confusing. Aren't these drawings of TWO male rats...? Well, there have been a few changes. As I said, these are much older characters who were never developed beyond the above very brief bios, for some reason--if I had any other ideas for them, I never took note. They've been sitting there untouched for years. I determined to draw them despite having no clue of their personality/history...they then finally opened up a little. The following is rough and vague and still VERY much under development, so may change in the future. Here's what I have so far.
The Trench Rats have occasion to meet with Sergeant Major Champere's partisans. Relations between the two groups have long been strained, since Champere received advance notice of an impending German attack on Trench Rat Headquarters yet failed to warn them, even despite certain of his men, such as Papillon, begging him to do so. He did provide aid afterward, but there's been some bad blood between the two factions since then, as well as between Champere and Didrika's partisans. (Didrika and her guys did NOT know of the attack in advance, yet sent help as soon as they could; when Didrika learned of Champere's hesitation in getting involved, she outright rebuked him as a coward.) Considering that Champere's guys were the first allies to come into contact with the Rats, this was a pretty big deal, and Papillon spends a lot of time acting as mediator, trying to smooth things over between the two groups.
Anyway, a small group of Trench Rats meets with some of Champere's guys, including Etienne Laurent, and sibling partisans Jade and Jet. The latter two are more involved in covert-style activities, though Jade's physique makes it clear the pair are no strangers to physical combat as well. Jet greets the Rats; Jade, who towers over him and, while being lean and athletic in build, also sports some rather buff musculature, says nothing. Explains Jet, "My sibling doesn't talk much." Jade seems rather distracted anyway, staring at Lance Corporal Doomsday Rat, who, uneasy with being the center of attention, peers back. They're both albino, and they're both the only other albino the other has ever seen.
While the Rats and Jet discuss plans and arrangements, D-Day keeps peering at Jade, and every time Jade smiles back. Making him flush and quickly turn away. It's one thing to come across someone else like him--something else entirely to have such confusing feelings. He's never experienced them before, whatever they are, but they have him all flustered. As the group wraps up discussions, he excuses himself to stop by a nearby stream to cool himself off. He lifts his face from the water and gasps, jumping back--Jade is right there, he hadn't even heard the approach. Before he can say anything, Jade grasps his face and kisses him. D-Day just blinks, bewildered, feeling like he should shove Jade away and get out of there, yet he doesn't; he does try to hastily excuse himself when Jade starts disrobing, yet can only stammer incoherently. Then suddenly he gets a good look at Jade without any clothes and all his protests abandon him and the inevitable happens.
Afterward, D-Day summons the words to ask what is pretty obvious by now: "You're a woman...?" Because right up until she removed her clothes, he--and the other Rats, he's sure--had assumed that Jet's sibling was male. D-Day's never really been attracted to anyone, but he's pretty sure he's not interested in guys. So yeah...all the weird feelings he had previously make a lot more sense, now. Yet he could have sworn Jade was male--she's tall, well built, her head is shaved bare, she even seems to have plucked her eyelashes. She wears cloths wrapped tight around her chest, but doesn't really need them to pass. And when she answers him, even her voice is deep and could ALMOST pass for a man's, though there's a certain slight, feminine lilt to it. D-Day has seen her naked...and more than that...but he's still mystified.
Jade smirks a bit and says, after that, does he really need to ask...? D-Day flushes again--since his return from Project Doomsday he's been pretty lousy at personal interactions--and says, well, obviously she's trying not to pass as a woman, why is that, why does she want people thinking she's a man? Jade nods back toward where the others were gathered and replies, "They would not take me seriously." When D-Day tries to insist of course they would, Jade counters with, "Would you?" And D-Day has to stop and ponder this, because his world is based on facts and evidence, not feelings...yet he realizes it's true...if he'd known from the start that she's a woman, he would have judged her differently, would have had a far different opinion. It really bothers him to realize he has the potential to make such erroneous judgements based solely on societal expectations--it's terribly unscientific--and Jade can tell from the look on his face that he's bothered. "See, most people wouldn't stop and think like you just did," she says, "and that's why I do this."
The two talk and learn a bit more about each other. Jade makes it clear she very plainly considers herself a woman--she doesn't feel at all like a man--she just can't do the tasks she wishes to do, or be taken seriously, as the gender she was born as. She binds her chest, shaves her head, plucks her eyelashes, all merely as part of a role, a disguise, a persona--an act. She's just naturally masculine in appearance; she has no opinion or conjecture on whether this has contributed to her feelings and others' reactions to her or not, simply that it benefits her in passing as male. She's always been taller, stronger, more athletic than her brother. Does he know, D-Day asks?--does anyone? Jet knows, and Laurent (he found out on accident but has kept her secret), and now D-Day; she thinks Papillon suspects yet has said nothing; she's felt no need to inform anyone else so far. "You will tell...?" she inquires; no, D-Day replies, he won't. Jet, despite publicly going along with the act, was actually the one to argue the strongest against her decision; he worries that others may hurt her if she goes picking fights pretending to be a man, she can still do plenty of useful things as a woman, yet she retorted that she could be hurt just as easily otherwise. At least this gives her the chance to serve in the war effort as she sees fit, and there's nothing Jet can say to dissuade her. She'd really rather just be open and be herself, yet for the most part, she's content.
Jade expresses interest in knowing more about D-Day himself. D-Day's always been painfully uncomfortable talking about himself; Jade manages to wheedle out of him why that is. The truth is, he honestly doesn't feel there's anything to discuss: He has no memory of his life before being captured by the Nazis and exposed to Project Doomsday, and since being rescued, it's like there's nothing there to describe: "I don't know how to explain it," he says, "I just remember enough to know things were different before, but after, it's like...there's just nothing there, I feel like an empty glass. There was something in me once, now there isn't anymore. I don't know what became of it." Jade furrows her brow, says well obviously there's SOMETHING there, he has a personality, he has thoughts and feelings and opinions, he's holding a conversation with her, is he not? D-Day just shrugs: "Everything I do, every time I talk with someone, it feels like an act." This time Jade is the one to ponder a moment before musing, "Perhaps I understand after all."
The Trench Rats start preparing to head back to HQ. Jade invites D-Day to stop by and spend time with her whenever they're in the area; say what he will, she's enjoyed their time together and wouldn't mind seeing him again. She places her hands on his face again, towering over him, and murmurs, "I'd really like to get into that fascinating brain of yours." "I really don't think you would," D-Day replies, feeling a bit nonplussed, yet agrees to keep their prospects open. Honestly, Jade has made him think, and thinking has made him uncomfortable...he doesn't like feeling uncomfortable, meaning he now believes he should examine the situation more indepth, try to get at the root of his loss of self, no matter how painful it may be. He can tolerate pain; he can't tolerate not understanding why he feels so hollow inside.
See Otto Himmel's Toyhou.se profile (starting with, "Himmel enlists Kolten's aid to keep an eye on Doomsday's progress...") for a hint at what's going on with D-Day. (D-Day's page isn't written up yet, neither is Dietmar Kammler's--I imagine Dr. Kammler's page will ultimately make it plain what happened in Project Doomsday.) This is a relatively recent development that takes a bit of liberty with the medical timeline, but not much. I wanted to figure out what, besides torture and conditioning (and the Doomsday serum), might have resulted in D-Day's complete amnesia for his earlier life as well as the personality change his fellow Rats, such as Indigo and Turquoise, report on once he's rescued. I don't yet have a concrete explanation for Kammler's decision, yet his actions aren't always medically sound, and he often does things just to be an a-hole. So maybe he needs no explanation.
Anyway, back to Jet and Jade. I don't know much else about them yet; Jet is the less developed of the two, really all I know of him so far is he's rather intimidated by and jealous of his sister's strength and abilities, and this likely fuels some of his overprotectiveness of her (what she tells D-Day about him urging her to stay in her place). He does love her and mean well, however, and is likely insecure that far more often, she's the one who ends up protecting him. He obviously struggles with some old-fashioned thoughts, though honestly, they're the norm in this story, Jade's behavior is what is unusual.
I already have various characters who defy the time period's ideas about gender and gender norms (Trudi Detzer, Didrika), as well as characters of various shades of LGBT+ and all the complications that entails (the effeminate Klemper who regularly yells gay slurs at other guys, the prim and closeted Rosina Kestler and Paul Wozniak, Lars Franke and his fetish for drag queens, etc.), and characters who try to abide by yet struggle with the unfairness of such norms (Eva Heidenreich's abusive marriage, Silver and Reseda trying to figure out their feelings), yet something I haven't much touched on yet is a masculine woman. Hilda comes close--she's big and domineering and imposing--yet she's not actually masculine aside from that. I stepped a bit outside my comfort zone and stylistic constrictions in designing Jade. Unlike all my other female rats, she has no head hair (though she would have it if she didn't shave--judging by her eyebrows, she's a full albino in that her hair would be white rather than blond); yet even more noticeable, she lacks the eyelashes I give literally EVERY female character, and do not give ANY male character (not even girly ones, unless they're literally in drag). This was a challenge, yet it needed to be done for her to "pass" in my art, and I needed to explain it. Presumably, she pulls them out. Eyelashes aren't so distinctive of male or female IRL, yet they are in my art--they are literally how I distinguish male and female characters when I draw.
I refrained from making Jade a transman as I already have a trans character, and really wanted to deal with someone who fits their birth gender yet doesn't fit societal expectations. A masculine woman is a character I haven't really done yet; even General Aku, from my adult Ameni Chronicles serial, while being quite muscular and domineering and taking on a traditionally masculine role, is very obviously female. (The rumors and stories that spread about her leave her gender open to doubt, but once one meets her it's pretty clear.) I remember feeling some perplexity and discomfort when basketball player Brittney Griner first entered the news upon her arrest in Russia. I don't follow sports, had never heard of her, knew nothing about her. To me, she looks like an androgynous woman, similar to a lot of female basketball players with their particular stature and musculature. Then I heard her talk, and got confused. I learned pretty early on that she's lesbian yet couldn't understand why there was no info on her being trans. I dug around the best I could and learned it's because she's NOT trans--she may have some sort of undiagnosed testosterone issue (I saw one interview where she mentioned she hadn't had her testosterone levels tested), yet aside from that, she's simply a masculine woman. My discomfort vanished upon this clarification--it was the not understanding, the ambiguity, that struck me. I get LGBT people. I get transpeople, I get asexuals and all that. What I have trouble comprehending is nonbinary, fluid, ambiguous things. That's on me--it's no one else's issue but mine. I have nothing against such people. I just feel discomfort not being able to fit something under a particular label. For this reason I try to be very careful with pronouns because I don't wish to harm even if I'm not always sure what applies.
I faced, and overcame, a similar issue regarding gay couples a couple of decades ago. What resolved my issues was writing characters who fit this mold. Jade isn't nonbinary or fluid, I'm not yet at the point of believably creating a character like that, but she might, like Griner, help me understand how certain people who technically fit the norm still might not quite fit, due to our misperceptions of them. And maybe after I work through that I'll find out how to work on the rest; I don't like being ignorant.
Anyway, I've likely dug myself in a bit of a hole admitting to all that, in the tiny chance anyone reads it, PLEASE understand I have no issue with how people present themselves, it's my own lack of understanding that bothers me. Jade's character (and to a lesser extent, D-Day's conflicted feelings regarding her at first--and then the way she brings out his conflicted feelings regarding himself) is partly a character in her own right, partly an attempt for me to understand. I don't know yet if Jade and D-Day become a thing or not, or what additional role Jet may play; these are all details that will likely emerge later on as I continue mulling over their development.
Please see also JADE'S ENTRY, which, I know, is where most of this info would fit better, yet I have to infodump in the first post and that's Jet's, sorry.

AYO CAN I GET UHHHH number 9, 22, 24, 29, 30 and can i get some fries with that?
Ask meme here!
9: How much time do you spend drawing on an average day?
Very hard to say just because when I'm hyperfocused on art I might spend two hours a day or so and fill up like ten pages a day, but then go like two weeks without touching my sketchbook lol. Currently not in a drawing mood so iiiiii haven't actually touched it in a sec. Last thing I drew were maps for dnd
22: Are you confident that you’re improving steadily?
Absolutely. To a degree. I'm positive that I've always been improving in my art, except for my health crisis in 2021(? Ish) when I spent two years without picking up the pencil. Both for mental health reasons and because I literally couldn't hold one lmfao.
Getting back into art after that was hard. Having to train myself to hold a pencil was rough and my skill definitely suffered. I don't think I've gotten back up to where I was in skill before that time. Sometimes it's really, really frustrating. But also I've found that I've gone a bit of a different style since then as well, which I think is really cool and interesting. Some things I'm picking back up faster than others. Fuck, sometimes I SHADE my art now. I never used to do that lmao
24: Do you feel jealous when you see other people’s art, or inspired? (Be honest!)
Nope! My personal journey with art has taught me a lot about the technical skills that go into art. My personal problems being unable to draw for so long taught me how to sit back and stop thinking about what I can't do, but to admire what others Can. I don't get jealous of other people's art- I'm just in awe of it. It's amazing what different people can create with different skill and ability sets and I think there's something real fucking magical about that. Sometimes I use other people's art as inspiration, seeing little techniques I wanna try out, but overall... idk. Leaving art for the reasons I did gave me a much bigger appreciation for everything about it and I just can't find it in myself to compare art because everything is unique and amazing
29: For traditional artists: How do you usually start on a big piece? (Light sketch, colored lead, sketchpaper, etc)
I use a really cool red toned oil pencil from Faber Castel for my under sketches! Then I follow it up with just normal pencil lines. If I'm feeling spicy, I'll lightly shade or add deeper values with the red. I'm a simple lad. My art is almost entirely sketches and anatomy work because that's what I love to do
30: What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?
*points up to 24* All of that. My personal experiences have given me a pretty solid love of all artwork and it all inspires me.
Most of all? Collaborative work of any sort. Fandoms are considered collaborative work. Drawing things for my own writing. Drawing things for a friend's writing. Drawing OCs interacting. Shipping friends' OCs, with each other or Canon ships! Making stupid funny shitposts that haunt the collective mindscape for years to come. (I don't think the Trollhunters Fandom will ever forgive me for Thiccmar) Writing something that inspires someone to draw. Drawing something that inspires someone to write. Art trades. Are collabs. Countless role-playing. My friends who commission me to draw or write them the craziest shit that I have an absolute ball with. Just stuff that makes other people see it and go "I can play with these toys too!"
Collaborative work fuels my fucking soul and I love love love getting to do things with other people, when I have the capability of doing so

Big order coming up, sorry I'm nosy😅
For you mi reina: 5, 9, 16, 20, 24, 28, 30, 47, 58, 62, & 85
For the V's: 4, 21, 22, 30, 47, 54, 90, & 98
No pressure tho!💚💚
MI REY OMG 😂I love you so much, thank you for this. 💕 Some of my answers are lacking, both for myself because I'm not a very interesting person and for the OC's because I don't know enough about the Cyberpunk world lore to know an exact answer 😅Hope I didn't miss any!
For me:
5. do you prefer to drink soda from soda cans, soda bottles, plastic cups or glass cups?
Soda cans or soda bottles, 100%. I don't really like to drink soda from cups unless I'm at a restaurant or I'm at someone's place and they offer me a cup. IF I had to pick a cup, it would be glass over plastic.
9. favorite smell in the summer?
The smell of the beach. I like driving to our beach with the windows down because you know you're getting closer to the island area when the scent just hits you out of no where.
16. most comfortable position to sit in?
I never really thought about it. When sitting at my desk, I sit normally with my feet on the floor since my chair isn't too wide, but with my previous chair, I would like fold my leg under me.
20. preferred place to write (i.e., in a note book, on your laptop, sketchpad, post-it notes, etc.)?
In a notebook while I'm at my desk and need to take notes. When I'm on the go, I use the Notes app on my phone.
24. favorite crystal?
Labradorite is very pretty! But I also like any sort of calcites. I like the waxy look of them. Smokey Quartz is also another.
28. five songs to describe you?
Oh boy, this is a difficult one because I have a very negative view of myself lmfao
The Unforgiven - Metallica Creep - Radiohead Dia Luna, Dia Pena - Manu Chao Me Gustas Tu - Manu Chao Use Somebody - Kings of Leon
This is the best I got, seeing as a lot of the music I listen to has almost no words 😅
30. places that you find sacred?
Honestly? Anything nature related. Mountains, wooded areas, stuff like that. There's just that vibe, it's really hard to explain.
47. favorite type of cheese?
Honestly? I like all sorts of cheese. Not at all picky, if it's cheese, I'mma eat it.
58. four talents you’re proud of having?
I'm a pretty good cook, my writing is pretty okay, I'm a decent crafter, and I'm a pretty quick learner.
62. seven characters you relate to?
This is gonna be my boring answer, because I don't think I have many characters I relate to 😭 But if I think of any, I'll edit the post. Sorry, I'm very boring ):
85. fairy tales or mythology?
Mythology, though fairy tales are pretty fun too.
For the OC's:
4. how did your elementary school teachers describe you?
Paola: She was charming kid, very outgoing and not shy at all. Some what smart for her own good, but otherwise, a joy to have as a student.
Paolo: Very studious, always willing to lend a helping hand, is usually the first to volunteer to present a project. Though, it's best he be seated away from his sister, else they both would be distracting the class constantly lol
Renato: A very shy and quiet boy, doesn't speak much but answers with the correct questions when called on. Doesn't cause much trouble. Excels in the arts and grades are above average.
Embry: An absolute joy to have in class, always offering to help other students and the teacher, very studious and a straight A student. Quick to make friends, but might have issues with bullies.
21. obsession from childhood?
Paola: Cartoons. Paola loves watching cartoons, even now as an adult.
Paolo: Superheroes. Paolo was obsessed with anything superhero related and still is to this day. He still collects comics.
Renato: Sketchbooks and drawing. Renato really likes to sketch and has had a sketch pad and a crayon in his hand since he was a kid.
Embry: He loved collecting weird things he would find out on his travels when his clan would move from place to place. He still does and has a box of little trinkets and stuff tucked away in the trunk of his car.
22. role model?
For the Twins: Their parents. They were good people, hard working people and the best parents a pair of kids could as for. They strive to be like them, or at least, uphold some of the ideals their parents taught them.
Renato: His uncle, Pepe. Pepe is like a father figure to Nato, a positive male influence of what a good husband and family man should be.
Embry: His grandparents. Similiar to the twins, his grandparents were very loving people and were the ones that raised him and taught him to be the good hearted person he is today.
30. places that you find sacred?
The Twins: Both of them, the chapel in Pacifica where the the player meets the Voodoo Boys for the first time. Neither are religious, but they went in there with the utmost respect.
Renato: El Padre's parish. Like the twins, he's not really religious but his family is. Plus, he deeply respects Padre and considers him a holy man...despite being a fixer.
Embry: The Badlands. He finds it oddly spiritual, being out there alone in the silence.
47. favorite type of cheese?
Embry: Whatever he can get his hands on, honestly.
Renato: He's fine with the synthetic stuff, but is willing to splurge on actual, real cheese every once in a while.
The Twins: Purely synthetic stuff, I don't think either have had real cheese in their life
54. what did you learn from your first job?
Paola: How to steal without getting caught or drawing attention to herself.
Paolo: How to hack a camera to deactivate it, the same job Paola where she had to steal something for someone else, for the first time. He was her back up.
Renato: How to hotwire a car. He was tasked to steal a car for someone, in exchange for some extra cash and a place to crash for the night.
Embry: Smuggling contraband. He didn't actually do it himself, but he was a ride along to learn and observe.
90. luckiest mistake?
Paola: She stole the wrong thing once, that ended up being worth a lot more to the client than what was originally planned.
Paolo: He kicked open the wrong door once while raiding a building he and his sister were supposed to hit, and found a kidnapped victim hidden away. So not only did he managed to save a life he didn't even know was in danger, he also earned himself (and his sister) a hefty bonus.
Renato: The golden gorilla arms he has when he's in his Oro get up, he actually found by mistake. He had actually fallen through a collapsed floor, down to the basement level. There were some containers and crates with some cyberware that was to be shipped out. Of course, he wasn't gonna let those bad boys go.
Embry: Embry ended up finding his current sniper rifle, among other supplies his clan desperately needed, by accident, when he took a wrong turn during a desperate get away drive. He found himself at an abandoned warehouse type of area. There were some bodies, of two rival gangs that had engaged in a shootout with no survivors. Finder's keepers.
98. favorite historical era?
Paola: She's absolutely fascinated by the Prehistoric area, how people went from living in caves and discovering fire for the first time, to actually having cybernetic implants installed directly into their body that can be switched out at will. Shit's crazy to her.
Paolo: The Middle Ages, particularly the "black plague" era, as morbidly dark as that is.
Renato: The Classical era, particularly ancient Greece, the foundation of philosophy, drama, poetry, and all that.
Embry: The 'Great Depression' era. History tends to repeat itself, after all.

May as well do this at once and get it over with
Day 1:
Started at: 60kg
Currently at: 47kg
Goal : 43kg
Ultimate goal : 40kg
Honestly I just want my body proportions to look good. If I don't see any stomach fat and actually have a defined waist line maybe I'll be satisfied...
Day 2:
164cm , I don't mind it but I wish I was a taller
Day 3:
Tumblr media
I've posted this before but I'm in love with everything. The tiny waist, how incredibly flat her stomach is , no large bulging thighs and flawless skin texture.
Day 4:
Being forced to stop or not being able to lose any more
Day 5:
I've always been the chubby girl in my family, but I didn't mind until I started noticing how big I was getting and how much smaller everyone else was. My medium clothes couldn't fit and I had to start wearing large. When I looked down all I could see was fat. Even family members commented on it but in a light hearted manner. When I downloaded tiktok it really opened my eyes to how large I looked in comparison to very pretty girl on my fyp so I decided to change that during quarantine.
Day 6:
Kind of. I would binge for a whole month then hyper restrict for another. I've started to stop that now and I rarely binge except once a week where I'm forced to as I'm visiting family who shove food down my throat
Day 7:
They don't know my goals but they've noticed I've lost weight and are starting to get suspicious and try to force me to eat more
Day 8:
I used to follow a Chloe Ting 2 week ab program but elongated it to be for a couple of months. I don't work out anymore since I got busy but we've just bought an excersise bike which I plan to use every other day
Day 9:
I remember a moment where my cousin came and pinched my stomach and called me pregnant. Felt like crap after and had to hyper restrict the next day.
Day 10:
Sugar, oil and bread.
Day 11:
I don't follow enough to have one but I enjoy most of them
Day 12:
I live with my parents so I have to eat with them at lunch which is usually chicken and rice or curries and rice. For dinner and breakfast I'm in control and try to make low calorie meals.
Day 13:
I mean .... I'm here aren't I. I'd guess un-healthy but I do try to not eat under 800 cals just because I need energy for school
Day 14:
40kg and hopefully soon! Maybe a month and a half. My body takes a while to lose weight in general so we'll have to see.
Day 15:
No but I do avoid beef which may have helped. I'd love to be pescatarian though
Day 16:
Around quarantine
Day 17:
I would say no because I think I'm still in control. Like I know that eating 300cals a day is bad for you so I don't think I'll ever reach that point
Day 18:
Anything carby like pasta or pizza...
Day 19:
Day 20:
I haven't tried out any fad diets but if I ever do it'll probably be intermittent fasting
Day 21:
Small
Day 22:
This is my lowest weight ever
Day 23:
Yea... tiktok and my Pinterest feed
Day 24:
They make me uncomfortable. You should never be pro a mental disorder but I understand why people use it and tag with it. I don't think I'm going to.
Day 25:
No I have sensitive teeth so I'm afraid I'll ruin them because I'll get addicted
Day 26:
Not having to worry whether I'll gain weight easily. Fixing one ugly part about me. Having an hourglass figure. Being seen as petite.
Day 27:
I use my sheer will power to refuse it but sometimes it's inappropriate to do so cause they'll worry so I eat and burn it off later or I'll plan my eating a day ahead. I like cooking and baking and being around food though so I typically make things for other people so I'm not tempted to indulge. And my stupid brain enjoys the idea of fattening those around me while I stay thin?? It's very stupid and effed up but it makes me feel better and I hate it. Occasionally I'd let myself eat something if it'll prevent a binge
Day 28:
No I don't really like them but I do want smaller thighs in general
Day 29:
Beauty is subjective but these are the traits I find beautiful;
- curly or wavy hair
- hourglass figure
- flat stomach
-even skin texture
- body is hairless
- no pore in sight
- straight white teeth
- coloured eyes ( including light browns)
- no acne or acne scars
- no eye bags
But sometimes I find people beautiful even when they don't fit this standard in my head
Day 30:
I have a cat, I like to sing (badly) , I wanna be a doctor one day (ironic), love to draw and doodle, bilingual, avid anime watcher, I read more fan fiction than fiction , enjoy martial arts, scared of porcelain dolls.

Hello! I am sorry to bother you but I am a senior getting ready for college this year. I am in the US and I wanted to major in the same thing you did, do you have any possible tips for me? I still haven't even looked for colleges that would be best for animation majors so I figured if you were up to giving out any tips/saying any basic ideas if you wanted to/if you had the time to then maybe I'll have a better idea! I apologise for if I sound weird! I'm tried to word it correctly but I can't 😿
hi!! i’m totally down to share my experiences! someone else also had some questions so i’m going to put them all together in this post haha, hopefully this helps! it’ll get pretty long so apologies ahead of time but art school is a lot to think about so i wanna be as helpful as i can around it, its a lot of time and money. I’m gonna put it all under a read more cus it is really really long!
i wanna start off with the fact that I had the privilege of attending school in a financially stable environment, my parents were/are really supportive so w merit scholarship i only came out with around 20-30k in debt and i also had housing support my entire time in school. they were ok with me focusing on academics so i didn’t hold a retail job unless i was out of school like summer/winter break. Ofc though i regularly take commissions/do merch/cons to try and pay for all bills that arent rent cus i did want to be financially independent where it was possible. I also did try and work during the semester but everytime i did my body would deff start to breakdown from the fact that i didnt wanna compromise schoolwork with jobs.. so just read ahead know this experience is from a student who was able to attend focusing only on school work for most of the time!
the biggest thing is knowing art school is not required to become a professional in either freelancing or industry! there are a huuuge amount of online tools and classes these days that provide the exact same education and for cheaper too. i think it depends on what experience you prefer/can handle/want but it’s definitely possible to make art/animation art your living without higher education. the thing that college will for sure give you though is the ability to meet deadlines, work even when you dont want to, and connections with peers+teachers. i think the connections part is invaluable because you’re basically coming out with a network of people you already know and who know you!
also its good to know if you want to attend/can handle art school! it’s a lot of time and energy and students get burned out really fast. the best piece of advice i got before going was ‘if you draw every single day, even if its for only like 5-10 minutes or a doodle for a whole year you should be fine’ consistency is super key because you’re attending school to draw, and you’ll have to create work for stuff you aren’t excited for at some point or another. burnout is extremely real and the only reason i didn’t experience it was probably because i got super into drawing naruto fanart again inbetween sophomore and junior year! it helped give me something to draw seperated from school which is the only thing i was drawing for since i had entered rip. a heads up id also consider myself a workaholic so i fit in ok with the ‘art school’ environment but it is suuper unhealthy. if you are fantastic at managing your schedule then it’s definitely possible to take care of yourself! freshman year i got 8 hours a sleep a night and only pulled all nighters for some second semester finals at the end. sophomore year + up though i ended up prioritizing hw over sleep and like for sure, definitely shortened my life span. there’s another q down below where i’ll go more into detail but ya, be careful w ur work balance!
another tip especially for animation is knowing for a fact what type of animation you’re looking to go into, and what the school is offering. I didn’t think i’d get into art school at the time so i only applied to two places + decided if i didnt get into either id attend community to get credits out of the way while building portfolio. honestly? i did not do a lot of research LOL but like i did end up having the chance to tour and stuff! just know that each school will have a very different curriculum. The main differences are schools that prioritize 3D (cg animation, cg modeling, ect) and 2D/traditional (hand drawn, ‘oldschool’, digital or traditional based) this is a huge difference so make sure you do research for it! in most cases a 2D/traditional program will also offer 3D since it’s at the forefront of the industry animation wise rn. My school taught 2D but like hand drawn on physical paper 2D, frame by frame. while it was a good experience it’s super outdated because digital tools make it way faster + easier! i’d recommend looking for a program that is digital 2D over traditional 2D.
if after your senior year covid is still affecting campuses in the US to keep them shut down i’d recommend attending a community college to get credits and then transferring into school. one of the negatives is paying money for gened classes when ur not there for them; if you can get them out of the way sooner and cheaper there is absolutely no negative + you could graduate earlier or use the extra time for better work or to work a job!
these are all the general tips i think i’d give on like a broad basis of attending or not to think about? let me know if u have more q’s! someone asked q’s im answering below that go more into personal experiences + work culture so heres those:
- how many hours a week do u spend studying, in class, otherwise making art? like how much of ur life does it consume?
I was basically working on art.... 24/7! since i wasnt working a job at the same time i crammed as many credits as possible into my schedule so on avg i did 18 credit semesters (around 6 classes) art classes go for 6 hours and non art go for 3, so i’d spent around 30-35 hours in class a week! hw wise it varied on the class but combined it would be around 35-50 hours a week... im guessing? on average studio classes would have 8-10 hours of hw, maybe 5 for a light week, and gened classes 5 hours w them all combined. or this was probably how things were before junior year? junior+senior year i had thesis + everything else ontop.. i’d spend around 30-40 hours on thesis a week with other classes ontop of that bc my film was super long cus im a dummy!
- is it hard going to art school n realising that altho u were probably quite talented… so is everyone else? Like. all of a sudden. ur not special and everyone seems as good as u, you know? More generally, how do u deal with comparison?
kinda?? i think instead of the idea of like you vs others it feels more of like a competition at first to be the best. this varies hugely on school culture though; my animation year was really friendly with each other and get along extremely well, so my answer to this is v different than some others who attended different schools. i think that the idea of ‘comparison’ only lasts a portion of the first year because at some point you realize that it’s not a who’s better as much as its a ‘these are my coworkers’ type thing? like healthy competition 100% because we’re all working to improve but i think most of us learned pretty early on that viewing each other as peers going into the same workforce helped a lot. also at some point everyone develops their own style/starts to develop their artistic preferences so there isn’t a way to compare whos 'better’ anymore? i dont think there ever is tbh because style is appealing based off of an individuals preferences. If anything realizing everyone else is also amazing makes you wanna work harder ig? or thats how i felt! it’s inspiring to be surrounded by so many people who create such amazing work.
- is there a lot of workaholic culture? all nighter culture?
100000% there can be a workaholic and all nighter culture. i know people who avoided it and thats honestly fantastic because i fall super easily into that pit. sometimes i’ll pull all nighters on a personal project just because i really want to finish it... i am definitely considered a workaholic all the way through and its not healthy rip... i’d estimate at the worst i was pulling 2-3 all nighters a week and only 4-5 hours of sleep on the nights i didn’t? that was only for one year tho, after that i was like yeah ok this is really bad for my health in the long run LOL so i tried to cut it down to one all nighter a week and around 5-6 hours of sleep the rest of the week! by senior year my decision to cram in full semesters paid off and i was able to consistently get around 7 hours of sleep a night + no all nighters minus finals since my schedule was lighter despite thesis 😭 while there is that culture i don’t think people view it as like a badge of honor or something to be proud of anymore which is good, we mostly view it as a flaw of the art school system and something that needs to be fixed!!
- are you glad u did it? how did u know it was what u wanted?
i am glad i did it! i’m definitely in a limbo right now of if it was worth both my time, money, and my parents money rip but i think with what i got out of it i definitely wouldn’t be as far skill wise or knowledge wise when it comes to the art industry. i would say it was only worth it for be because i had so much support going in though so i was able to focus so much on improving. if i had only been able to put in part of the effort and not make full use of the resources provided i would honestly have a different answer..
i knew it was what i wanted when i realized i really couldn’t see myself pursuing a different profession happily! despite all the bumps and stuff im fully in love with drawing still and feel honored that it’s a field that can provide a living. my second profession choice was to go into culinary school? and third option i think going was into music cus i was also a band kid hehe.
- how do u cope with ur hobby becoming ur job? how do u deal with art going from something u do for fun to something u do on command constantly?
i think seperating work art from personal art is important! in my case im doubling naruto into being personal work so i have something to fall back onto that isn’t work related. its been a hyperfixation for 12+ years? so drawing it at this point is just like personal art imo. some people have hobbies outside of art and only draw for their job! i think after attending classes for so long the idea of hobby turning into job feels extremely natural? also i enjoy doing it so thats a huge plus!
sorry this is SO long but i hope i answered your guys’ questions! if you have more just lmk!

questions 1 to... oh hell you know I'll ask you to answer them all. Although I think I know a few answers alread
I’m putting this under the cut because it’s LONG.
Original Character Asks* 1: What is your character’s biggest fear?Iago is terrified of death and being alone. His old self was homophobic but it wasn’t his biggest fear. * 2: What is your character’s favorite memory?Depends on the verse, but in his main verse Iago’s favorite memory is tied with his worst; summer camp. * 3: What is your character’s least favorite memory?See above. * 4: Does anyone have a crush on your character? Is your character aware of this? Not in his main verse, and Iago’s pretty… oblivious about other people’s feelings in general.* 5: Describe your character’s dream date. He’s much of a “date” guy because that usually means he has to walk around/eat things/be in public and he doesn’t like that. He’d prefer staying home and doing drugs or having sex, though if a date was required, he’d pick the movies.* 6: What is your character’s sexual orientation? He’s GAY AS HELL but in complete denial because of trauma he lived through as a kid which led to internalized homophobia.* 7: How does your character feel about their name?He hates it XD. His full name is Iago Holden Dantes because when he was dumped at the fire station he was in a box of books including Othello, Catcher in the Rye, and The Count of Monte Cristo. When it came time to name him, the nun (a Spanish woman and a teacher) picked one name from each book. Iago is the Spanish form of Jacob, and she had planned on naming her son Iago before she became a nun, then Holden because it means “gracious” and she thought he could use it instead of Iago if he ever wanted to appear more American, then Dantes because it means “one who endures” and she liked the dual reference to The Count of Monte Cristo and The Inferno. Of course Iago was mercilessly tormented by the other boys in the orphanage for his weird name, and when they started reading the books in school, it got even worse. The “worst” moment was when they were reading Othello in English class and the teacher decided to assign roles to students so they could act it out. Iago was assigned the role of Iago and he actually enjoyed it but it only made the teasing worse. * 8: Does your character hate anyone? Why?Yes. He hates queer people because of internalized racism, bullies, most authority figures, and of course, himself.* 9: How does your character feel about religion? He was raised in a Catholic orphanage so he’s relatively well versed on it, though he never payed rapt attention, so his knowledge is spotty. He mostly treats God like a deadbeat dad; to be used as a threat by some and cursed at/hated by others (including himself).* 10. Would your character ever kill someone?Yes. Without a doubt. It just depends on the person, but in some cases he might kill someone by accident just because he got into a fight and lost control.* 11: How did your character meet their best friend? His best friend is a cat named Pig. In most verses Pig actually finds Iago, either by walking up to him and meowing loudly/slamming against his shins in a demand for pets, or somehow making his way into wherever Iago is living without being spotted and making himself at home in Iago’s room.* 12: How would/does your character feel about roller coasters? He’s never been on one, and he’d be terrified but too proud to admit it. After one ride, he’d love it. Iago’s an adrenaline junky.* 13: What would your character die for?Iago’s been suicidal since he was 8, but he’d die “for” people he loved. * 14: What is the cutest thing your character has ever done?Bahaha Iago’s accidentally cute a lot (he’s 5’4” so even when he’s angry he’s cute) but he’s never purposefully cute and will probably fight anyone who says he’s cute (which would be cute anyway because… he’s 5’4”) but some accidental cute things he’s done include; sleeping curled up around Pig/a stuffed animal/a pillow, waking up and wrapping the blanket around himself like a robe and dragging it to the kitchen to make coffee, when he listens to music or watches TV/movies and he thinks no one is looking he’ll either sing along, or talk to the people on screen and it’s adorable. * 15: What music genre would your character listen to?Punk, rock, metal, rap, and anything he deemed “hardcore” though he’d also listen to top 40 hits and sappy/cheesy/angsty songs but he wouldn’t tell anyone. * 16: What other fictional characters remind you of your character?Well he’s based off Iago, Holden Caulfield, and Edmond Dantes, so there’s that. Beyond those three, Hayley from Hard Candy reminds me of him, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Rorschach from Watchmen.* 17: Does your character have any irrational fears?Yeah, he’s terrified of needles. * 18: How would your character feel about having their life recorded? He’d HATE it. Anxiety alone would make him wanna die. * 19: What is your character’s deepest, darkest secret? At most points it’s that he’s gay, or the trauma he lived through. He THINKS his deepest secret is that he “liked” the abuse, but he didn’t like it, he just has a fucked up definition of enjoyment and consent.* 20: What is the most surprising thing about your character? That he’s actually really… sensitive? He likes flowers and animals and bright colors. Had he not been abused/grown up in a “normal” household, he’d probably be the type of gay boy you see on tumblr posting selfies of their makeup and nails and wearing flower crowns and neon croptops and he’d have a million pets and stuffed animals and spend his time studying to be a veterinarian. * 21: Is your character flexible?Physically? Yeah, mostly because he’s so skinny (and because whenever he gets drunk/high he ends up going out and getting screwed by men who bend him in half which is his form of stretching. * 22: What is the worst thing your character has ever done?Well… that depends on who you are. He’s fought people, bought and sold drugs, said horrible things to people who trusted him, and almost killed himself. * 23: Is your character morally gray or black or white?Probably gray. He’s not without his sins but most of the bad shit he does hurts himself more than others. * 24: What prejudices does your character have? He’s hella homophobic but after he realizes he’s gay, he pretty much turns into an anarchist liberal. * 25: Would you want to hang out with your character?Hahaha uhm… that depends on what version of him. I doubt Iago would want to hang out with me, regardless. * 26: What is your favorite headcanon for your character? His love for animals. It can be explained as simply as “he loves animals” or delved into deeply to explore why he feels the need to save and protect creatures who can’t do it themselves. * 27: What would be the worst way for your character to die?At his own hands or from a drug OD. Alone. * 28: What pet would your character like to have?ALL OF THEM. In most verses he has one cat, and that’s it, but in some verses he gets snakes, hedgehogs, puppies, birds, and even attempts to take in seals, raccoons, lions, bears, and monkies.* 29: What would be your character’s favorite food?Strawberries. * 30: Would your character have any hobbies?Doing drugs? Or drawing. Or both. * 31: What social media would your character use?I made him a fake Instagram once. He’s likely have a snapchat and a twitter as well. He might join tumblr after he comes out. (and grindr)* 32: What does your character look like? His fc is Ash Stymest, though Iago’s quite a bit shorter than him. He’s got an eating disorder so his weight fluctuates, though he’d never be described as anything but “skinny” even at his heaviest. He’s covered in tattoos, with very pale skin, dark hair, and bright blue eyes. He usually has bags underneath them from a lack of sleep. He’s be described as “disheveled” and if you saw him on the street you’d likely be concerned for his health. * 33: In what ways is your character like you?Hooo boy. A lot. I tend to take the advice “write what you know” too far, though Iago shares more traits with my younger self than me currently, which is a good thing. * 34: What is cliche about your character? If you boil him down to the core, almost everything. Skinny gay but homophobic white boy with tattoos and mental illnesses who does drugs but has a soft spot for animals? Yeah. Cliche. * 35: What is unique about your character?I’d like to think that I make him unique by how I write him, though I couldn’t tell you what makes him unique to others because I’m constantly paranoid that he’s not unique at all. * 36: Does anyone want to harm your character?Bahaha yeah. Iago’s not what you’d call “likeable” but most of the time he’s literally asking for it. * 37: Do people have justified grudges against your character?Grudges? I dunno. He doesn’t hang around people that much in general so unless he gets into a barfight and the guy takes it personally, there wouldn’t be a lot of people who hold longterm grudges. * 38: What role does your character play in their story? The victim. :/* 39: What would be your character’s niche on Tumblr?See above “cliche” question, or the one asking what’s surprising about him. * 40: What would be your character’s favorite school subject?Theater but he’d never admit it, so any class he could sleep in, really.* 41: Would your character want to have any children?NOPEx100000* 42: What would be your character’s dream career?Veterinarian. Or vaguely an “artist” somehow. * 43: What is your character insecure about?EVERYTHING. His looks, his smarts, his past, his height, his weight, his interests, his tattoos, his education….* 44: What is your character proud of?Uhhhh well when he comes out he’s proud that he can take dick like a champ and he doesn’t have a gag reflex but that’s about it. * 45: What would your character change about themselves?E v e r y t h i n g.* 46: Would you want to trade places with your character?Hopefully no one. * 47: What fandoms would your character be in?As a character? I dunno. As a fan? Marvel, DC, probably some anime fandoms, and anything he deemed “badass” (James Bond, TMFU, Tarantino films, etc)* 48: How would your character type?Badly. Quickly, but badly. Lots of text speak or typing errors. No punctuation and no capital letters. * 49: How does your character stand politically? He’s… not political. He thinks everything’s shit so if nihilism is a political view that’s his. * 50: What is your favorite thing about your character?Probably the fact that he’s so weird? Like I never know how he’ll react until I sit down to write stuff out. He’s volitile and that makes him fun, (but exhausting) to write.* 51: What is your character’s favorite animal? If you pressed him he’d say “cats” but he loves all animals and he’d hate you for making him pick one. * 52: How would your character act in gym class?Sit by the bleachers and steadfastly refuse to participate. (He actually forged a note from a doctor so he didn’t have to attend gym for the last two years of highschool.* 53: What clubs would your character join? He’s not  a club kinda guy. * 54: What is the saddest thing about your character’s life?ALL OF IT lmao. No but he’s an orphan who was raped and molested for 3 years, then dropped out and ran away to become a semi-homeless drug addict in denial. * 55: Would your character do the Ice Bucket Challenge? No. His ED means he’s pretty much always cold and he would think it’s stupid anyway.* 56: What’s one of your character’s quirks? He runs his hands through his hair/scratches his arm when he’s nervous. * 57: How would your character feel about feminism?Originally? He’d be of the “fuck SJWs/feminazis are dumb/I’m an egalitarian” sort. He’d evolve over time. * 58: Is your character dorky or more athletic?Neither hahaha though he can be a dork he’s not dorky, and he’s certainly not athletic. * 59: What is your least favorite thing about your character?People think he’s gonna be one way but he’s not and they get mad or freaked out when he behaves a certain way because they didn’t think I’d go “that far” (i.e. crying during/after sex, attacking them, using slurs)* 60: If you could title your character’s life, what would you title it?“What the everloving fuck” maybe. Or “dear god look away” or “it keeps happening why does it keep happening” or just a gif of a giant rotating middle finger.
