What are your top five (romantic) ships and why? 🤍

Oh man, I've been around the fandom traps for so long, this is the sort of question that feels like I have a million answers to. I have so many formative ships I could list that probably make my current ships make more sense, but for the sake of today, let's go with some Right Now ships? And sure, they're all over the place too, haha, but okay, let's go:

5. Allison x Ray, The Umbrella Academy

I know Allison lost a lot of fans with s3, but she didn't lose me!!! I do think the show is in a sticky spot of not really knowing what do with her, but I think Emmy Raver-Lampman is a much warmer and more interesting actress than she gets credit for, and that Allison is a character with so much simmering beneath the surface, which I could talk about all day, but is not the point of this post, haha.

Allison and Ray are really different characters, and the thing I love most about them (outside of Emmy and Yusuf's wonderful chemistry) is that they have these different experiences of trauma, but also these different understandings of power and what it is to fight. Ray chose to fight for his and his community's civil rights, while Allison had the fight forced upon her by an abusive adoptive father, and her relationship with violence, with her own strength and power, with herself is forever tarnished as a result.

I don't think the show has always written them well, but I think Emmy and Yusuf have always played them perfectly, and they play these moments where they chafe against moments they sink into each other so well that it makes me go insane.

4. Joey x Pacey, Dawson's Creek

Look, the reality is Joey and Pacey will never not be an OTP for me. They are the enemies to friends to lovers ship, and anyone who says otherwise is wrong!! The snark, the slow building trust, the empathy, the grace, the personal insecurities crippling the relationship, the way they just !! Fidnd their way back to each other!! Sorry, but they are the teen show ship of all time.

3. Shauna x Taissa, Yellowjackets

Probably a controversial opinion given the current season is for some reason refusing to have Tawny and Melanie's insane chemistry on screen (I can only assume it was too powerful), but I love them. I've always had a really big soft spot for what I tend to call the 'collateral damage' characters, and especially those collateral damage characters falling into bed together.

Neither of them want to be the main character of this particular story, but they both circle the roles and only find each other, and I just really, really love that. Their intimacy, their bond, their messy, fucked up dynamic, their chemistry, which I've already said, but will say again, haha. I just love them, and I want them to have an offputtingly intense and sexual bond forever.

2. Kendall x Stewy, Succession

LOOK, it's just the childhood friendship turned fractured adulthood relationship stoked by the trauma you both knew about. It's the unwanted but ever present intimacy, it's the desperately needed fire in a cold and barren life, it's the trust that, despite every betrayal and misdeed, never really wavers. I can't cope, I literally love them so much it makes me insane.

Allison x Ray barbershop au except it’s literally just canon

Apparently I've gotten into some weird spam session so I'm gonna continue with my thoughts and predictions...

I was thinking about the ending of tua, and how it's unlikely that everyone gets a happy ending/get to be with the people they love, as, thinking about it, it was usually due to some time fuckery that got them all to be in another year/timeline, etc.

So, here's the next idea - what if in the end of tua, they all get scattered across the timeline? Like, not all of them ending up in the same timeline, in 2019, but get thrown in different years/timelines?

Because I can't see another way of all of them (even most of them) ending up with those they love otherwise.

Like, I can't see Allison getting to keep both Claire and Ray, especially in this timeline where they're both existing and alive, despite them orginally existing around 50-60 years apart from each other.

No way Viktor and Sissy end up together either, with Sissy dying in 1989.

Or Klaus and Dave (Not really shipping them but if this would make Klaus happy, okay) as Dave is also from another age (and dies).

I honestly don't know where Five could end up (Dolores can really exist anywhere 😬 Doubt she'll become a real person in any case). In any case, I believe he'll get to so something else. Maybe actually get to control the Commission and ensure that this thing works for all his siblings. Idk.

No idea for Ben, Luther and Sloane or Diego and Lila either.

But in any case, for these that have loved ones from other ages, maybe it'll make sense they get to live in their ages somehow. Unless they find love/peace in the current timeline, or wherever they might end up in the end.

I'm not saying I want this to happen. Only that this seems more likely to me if they get to end up with these people somehow. Because they've already sorta been-there-done-that. And them all existing together, at the same time, in the same age (here I mean all Hargreaves and all of their loved ones) together, especially if it's 2019, it seems unlikely...

“Can I keep the purple in for school Monday?” Claire asked hopefully.  “Please, please, please?”

Allison exchanged a look with Ray, who raised his eyebrows and remained silent.  Ugh.  He didn’t want to be the bad guy.  Well, neither did she.  Forget the school dress code.  It was stupid, anyway.

“Of course, baby,” she cooed.  Ray gave a stern look…to his wife, who gave him a smile and a helpless shrug.  Claire bounced.

“ALLISON HARGREEVES!”

Oh, good, another passerby. Probably an annoying one.  Allison ignored him as he approached them on the sidewalk.

“Hey, Allison!” came another voice.  A friend of his.  They stepped around the pair and continued on.

“I think,” Allison said loudly enough to drown them out, “I want the shrimp okonomiyaki.  What about you guys?”

The two men were following them now, still calling Allison’s name.  A cloud was passing over Ray’s face.  She knew he wouldn’t follow the temptation to turn around and beat the shit out of them.  Claire reached out to grip her mother’s hand.  Allison squeezed back.

“I-I want the chicken fingers,” Claire said nervously, referring to the tori katsu they served at the restaurant.

“Chicken fingers sound good,” Ray agreed, placing his hand on her back.  He hadn’t quite grown accustomed to cuisine from outside the Deep South, though he did love soup dumplings and Korean barbecue.

“You got a pretty family, Allison!”

Allison scanned her surroundings, looking for places to run, payphones to call the police, possible improvised weapons, anything she could use to defend her family.

“Allisonnnn!” taunted the first voice.  “You know you only got the Oscar because you’re black!”

“Baby,” Ray began to say, “don’t—”

I saw a few comments about Allison in season 3 of The Umbrella Academy that made me kinda curious enough to give it a try, despite my overall disappointment with the second season. but since I have no time to watch it yet instead I’m using a train to refresh my memories of her plot there (one of the few things* that IMO held up in s2) and.

that first scene with Ray where he gives her Jules Verne’s “From Earth to Moon” as a (pre)anniversary and she says “the moon...” all ~emotional, and he mentions she “stares at it every night” all the dynamics at play here are soooo 🥺🥺🥺

synopsis: after the previous outburst, lila and diego decide to make up for lost time with five.

notes: unlike my other fics, everything from the show happened here, except you were with five instead of him time traveling, returning right after he left so he was same of age.

After Five left the house, with Ben, Klaus and [Name] following behind, Lila stands up, with Diego following suit, as Lila gathers her and Diego's things. “We'll be leaving you lot now, I'm pretty sure this reunion of sorts is done now that the little turd's left. Nice seeing you idiots though.”

“Bye guys. Er, come see us if you want to, i guess.” he says, handing out a paper with his address before walking out with Lila.

“Sorry this day wasn't as good as you wanted it to be, Allison. I'll take my leave now. Sloane should be getting home from work in an hour so i need to go. Bye, Allison.” (for the sake of my sanity, let's say Sloane is alive bc i love Sloane and Sloather or whatever it's called) Luther said, standing up to leave. “I'm glad i got to see you again, Allison. I just wish it ended better. I'll see you soon, okay?”

And with that, Viktor left, leaving Allison alone with her husband soon entering the room. “Hey, if that didn't work out, try again next time, okay?” he reassured his wife. “I don't think they want to, especially Five, Ben and [Name]. Klaus, maybe yes, but he's more of leaning into Five's view. Thats almost half of my siblings, Ray.”

“Let's not assume too much, okay? Maybe they might come back. Not now, maybe someday.” Ray sighs, leading Allison to their couch to relax.

As soon as Lila and Diego get home, their five year old son; Stan, whom they named after 'their other' son, ran to them, with Lila's friend and Stan's sitter smiling, as she leaned onto the door frame. “He was quite a handful, just so you know.”

Lila laughs, “Please, i would know that, i gave birth to the bloody child.” Diego soon enters with the car keys in hand, as he runs to his son. “Rahhhhh! The monster is here now!” he calls out, tackling Stan to the floor. “Ahhh no!! I wasn't readyyy that's not fair! Mommy, dad's not playing fair!”

“Diego, get off him, you're going to kill him with how big you are.” Diego laughs scoff-like and gets off his son. “Also, Lila” she hums, indicating she was listening, “[Name] gave me their address if we wanted to visit them, and after Five's little outburst earlier, we should probably see him and make up for god knows how many years of making up to do.”

She hums again, in agreement as she gets ready to make dinner for her friend and son. “Okay, why not. Little turd's gotten me in some thought trance since he started yelling about how i cared more than the others. Five really does have a way of giving more surprises everytime you see the cheeky little bastard.”

“That or you actually do care for the 'little turd'.”, her husband said, emphasizing the little turd

“Don't push it, Diego.”

After Ben and Klaus returned to their resoective rooms, you and Five were left on the couch alone, enjoying each other's presence. “Five? Honey?” Humming in response, he looks up to her “Hm?”

“Do you want to go to bed now?” you said, tilting your head to the direction of you and Five's room. “Mhm, okay.” he quietly mumbles. Five stands up to go to their room, walking slowly careful not to fall because he was sleepy.

You catch on to his behavior and helped him go straight to your bathroom to take a bath then head to bed. “C'mon honey, let's get you to bed, okay? I'll be right with you as soon as i finish taking a bath.”

Five smiles at you, curling up into the blanket sprawled upon the bed you share. “Hmm” he responds, to tired and sleepy to speak. A few minutes later and you return, wearing shorts and a shirt for pajamas.

[Name] finds Five already asleep, quietly snoring. You crawl into bed, careful not the wake him up from his well needed sleep and pull the covers over you and Five properly.

Subconciously, his arm wraps around your waist, pulling you closer so his face rested on your chest. He grips tightly on you, as if you would fade away if he let loose or let go. “Goodnight, Five.” planting a kiss, you bid him goodnight, sleep taking over you.

The boys were awoken to the smell of a wonderful breakfast consisting of eggs, pancakes and fruit salad. “Mmm.. [Name], is that pancakes i smell?”, was the first thing Klaus said as he walked out of his room. “Yes it is, dear Klaus. Wake Ben and Five up for me, yeah?”

“Yes ma'am!” he says doing a soldier salute, heading to Ben's room. A couple minutes later, Ben walks out with Klaus who was on his way to wake his brother up. “Fiveeee! Wakey wakey!!”

You heard Klaus yell and grimaced as he did. “Ooh, Five is not gonna like that. I should have told him to wake him up gently-” you muttered under your breath, trying to flip the pancake you were cooking.

“I'm up, I'm up, Jesus. Would you stop waking me up like that, Klaus!” scolded a very angry Five because his brother had woken him up in the least peaceful way he wished to have been woken up. “Whoops, sorry! Well it's almost breakfast so you should probably get a move on!” he calls out from the living room.

After breakfast, the cores were done. You've swept, made the beds and washed the dishes. Now, you were having fun. So much fun that the knocking on the door was masked by the laughing that echoed the walls from Five trying to escape the tickling of Klaus' evil hands or so he says. “K-klaus! I swear to god, hahaha! Klaus, stop!”

“No! Give me the remote, little shit!” Klaus said, in a villainous voice. “Never! Get off me- haha! Klaus, I'm gonna kill you!” you join in and take the remote from Five. “Ha! I have the remote now, assholes!” you said, running around the house, with your hands up, trying to keep it away from the two.

Ben sighs and closes his book. He stands up and opens the door and is met by Diego, Lila and their child, Stan. “Er, hi? Are we interrupting some kind of war in here?”

“Just get in or something. I'm sure [Name] doesn't care, meaning Five doesn't, eventually. And Klaus is Klaus so just get inside.”

They took off their shoes, and is met by Klaus finally having the remote with his hands up so the remote was out of reach, you on your tippy toes, and Five on his way to grab a chair. “Hey, Five.” Diego greets. The laughter, shouting and bickering soon dies down, and the room is soon as silent as possible. “Hello Diego. What brings you here?”

“I-” Diego stops, incapable of finding the right words. “Lot of lost time to make up for, might as well start now.” Lila concluded for her husband. “I see. Who's the kid?” Five says, slightly smiling. He was glad to know that at least one of his siblings had the decency to make it up to him for all the shit they've done. And Lila, well he wasn't surprised Lila was here considering he was being honest on how he thought, more of knew, in Five's words, that Lila did care. Probably more than his siblings did.

“Our son. His name is Stan.” Lila introduced. “Go on Stan, say hello to them. They're your aunt and uncles.”

“Nice to meet you Stan! I'm your uncle Klaus!” he says, kneeling down so he was in eye view for the boy. “I'm much cooler than your dad, so come by whenever you want! Trust me, I'm cooler company.” he whispers. “I heard that, Klaus.” Diego warns.

“Well! That was heartwarming, anyone want food? We still have leftover pancake batter, depending if Klaus and Ben ate it or not.” you said, practically inviting them to eat. “I've never eaten your stupid batter, [Nickname]! Why the fuck would you think I'd eat any of your goddamn batter!” Ben said from the couch, defending himself. “You do know the quicker you are to deny it, the more likely it is to be true. Meaning you most likely did or do eat [Nickname]'s batter.” Five contradicted.

“Okay, enough. I checked and we still have enough batter for everyone. It'll only take a few minutes before it's done. Make yourselves at home, Diego.”

Sooner or later, the house was packed with chatter, Klaus and Diego bickering over who's cooler, Lila encouraging Stan to talk to you, and Ben and Five having counter points on wheter or not Ben was lying. You decided to start up a conversation with Stan. Why not try and get to know him, you thought.

“Stan, dear, come taste the pancakes, i bet you'll love them!” you called, beckoning him to come. Lila had her hand on Stan, as he walked them to you. “Can i taste it, miss?” you laughed. “Of course you can, and please call me [Name], I'm practically your aunt!”

He smiled and nodded, and you had a piece of pancake on a spoon with whipped cream, and you spoon fed him. “Mmm! Tasthte tho ghood!” he said, mouth full of pancake. “Manners, Stan!” Diego yelled from the living room. “Alright, come eat everyone! There's plenty for all of us!”

You brought the plate of pancakes to the table and had more plates set out for each of you. “Five?” Diego called as they were sat on their chairs, eating. “Yes?”

“Sorry, for being a shit brother and all that.”

“Language, dear brother. There's a child.” Klaus said, his fork pointing at Diego. “Okay, put that down. Jesus.” Ben instructed, his hand pushing Klaus' down. “Thanks. For saying sorry. I forgive you, by the way. I could say the same, considering i wasn't very, open about loving or something of the sort with you. Or everyone, technically.”

“No, it's okay, i get it. You have a hard time showing affection and stuff. I do too sometimes, so i know where you're coming from.”

“I'm gonna assume i don't need to say any sorry's because it was your words, not mine, i cared more than your other idiot siblings.” Lila said, adding a little bit of humor just to keep the tension at a right level. “So, what happened that day? When we all left, how did you end up being with each other?” a curious Diego asked.

You laugh. “Funny thing, Klaus just ended up pushing Five god knows where, i followed Five, Ben followed Klaus. Eventually we just ended up accepting we all just wanted to have one another as company so now we're here, in our own house with the two physical adults with jobs.”

“Klaus has a job?!-” shocked, Diego exclaimed. “Yea, i do!” Klaus happily said. “Oh, and he's fully sober now too. For three years now. Of course he still drinks, but only on special occasions.” Five added. “Congratulations, Klaus.”

“Why thank you, dear brother Diego!”

Sadly the day ended, but you had made some kind of pact for a meet up once a month. Five, Ben, Klaus and you bid the family goodbye, while you walked in to clean all the mess from eating and having a small amount of wine. The boys noticed this and loomed at each other.

They all knew what the other was thinking. We should help her, she's been working around the house all day.

You went to pick up the wrappers and trash, when you see another hand pick it up. You look up to see Ben. “Just rest or something.”

You tried find something else to do, keyword being tried. But you see that Five was dealing with the dishes and Klaus was sweeping. “Er, what are you doing?”

“Cleaning, darling. Just rest, you've been cleaning all day.” Five answered. You smiled at their thoughtful actions. “Thank you. I'll just take a bath, if anyone will be looking for me.”

As soon as you left, everyone was in a good mood, knowing they had done something to help you. In Five's eyes, no, in the eyes of all of you, this was a family. It's bound by love, not documents.

So. Now that she's home and safe and gonna be ok, I can talk about this.

I almost lost Kaiju. Christmas Day. I was woken up by a phone call from Allison, who will be referred to a LOT in this story. Allison runs the pet store where I board Kaiju. She called to tell me that Kaiju had lost a LOT of blood. (As it turns out, half her blood volume. Humans die when we lose 40%, just so you know. She lost 50%.)

There were no visible injuries, and she had passed a bloody stool. Or rather, a blood clot with some poop in it. She continued to pass only blood when they put her in the bathtub to clean her up. If I'd taken her anywhere else, that... would have been it, probably.

But Allison is an actual miracle worker and knew an emergency vet who was open- on Christmas Day- and could see reptiles. As soon as she called me, she took her to the e vet, where they gave her fluids and oxygen and got her stable. They did some x rays and found... nothing.

In fact, the e vet actually complimented me on her bone density and how nice her toe joints look. Whatever this mysterious haemorrhage was, it was in the soft tissue.

The immediate thoughts were:

Impaction

Cancer invading an artery

Aneurism

Reproductive issues

However, the emergency vet couldn't figure it out, and my vet was out of the country. The e vet consulted with a lot of vets and it was decided she'd go into Chicago Exotics for care the next day- they were willing to see her on immediate notice. Allison drove her over and they did an ultrasound... and couldn't differentiate the mass they found.

So, exploratory surgery it was.

But... she didn't have enough blood for that. She wouldn't have survived... if Allison hadn't found blood for her. Tegu donors were found, the transfusion happened, and was completely successful.

And what the surgery found was completely unexpected. No cancer. No repro issues. No typical impaction.

Instead? Weird white things in her muscles and a partial impaction that seems to be related to a reduction in her ability to properly digest. There are two possible diagnoses at this point. One is visceral gout. This is very strange because in reptiles, articular gout basically always happens first, and her kidneys are fine.

The other option? Weird, potentially cross species parasite she picked up when she was in the Everglades. Something she's likely had all her life, something that was dormant until recently.

I'll know when the pathology report comes back in a week or so.

Anyways! She is doing very well. She is alert and interested in things. She has an incredible appetite, even though she can't have solid food yet. She's on three meds, including one I have to inject. At her three week recheck, we will add a fourth- either the correct anti-parasitic or a medication to improve kidney function, depending on the diagnosis. Currently she's in a hospital cage and she hates it- she can't have any substrate because of the stitches.

The vet says it should take about three months until she makes her full blood volume. Her pack cell count should be at 35%. It was at 7% on the 26th. But by the 28th, it was at 10%. She's gonna be ok. She's tough. My little girl is a fighter, always has been. You have to be scrappy to survive in the wild.

And throughout this entire experience, everybody has told me how lovely her personality is. Through the injections and cloacal probing and everything, she never bit or even tried to. The vet didn't think she even wanted to bite. Like it wasn't a question of wanting to bite and not being strong enough- it's just not something in her behavioural repertoire. She doesn't bite because she doesn't want to. Because even at her most scared, at her most painful, she's still Kaiju, the best tegu to ever live. Love is stored in the tegu, and it continues to be stored in the tegu. We have a long road ahead of us, but she's out of the woods and is going to be ok. We both are.

A woman in Canada has died after waiting for almost seven hours to receive emergency care at a hospital on New Year’s Eve in what has been described as a “senseless death”.

Allison Holthoff, 37, from the Nova Scotia province, was rushed to an emergency room on the morning of 31 December after her condition worsened from what was initially believed to be an upset stomach.

Her husband, Gunter Holthoff, told CBS news, that she had to be carried on his back to reach the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Nova Scotia’s Amherst town at 11am local time before they spent hours in the waiting room.

“She was obviously in pain,” he said on Sunday, recalling his wife’s excruciating pain and their ordeal. “I was rolling her in the wheelchair and she could hardly sit up.”

Ms Holthoff’s pain worsened as the two waited for more than six hours in the emergency department’s waiting room. They were only able to see a doctor after 6pm in the evening, he said.

By then, the doctor said, it was already too late. She underwent a preliminary examination and the nurse asked for her urine sample.

Ms Holthoff then fell on the bathroom floor as she was not able to stand on her own and required the assistance of two other people to get back onto her wheelchair.

Her condition deteriorated to the point where she was unable to sit in the wheelchair and ended up lying on the floor, he said.

“I told the nurses and the lady at the desk there a couple of times, ‘It is getting worse,’ and nothing happened,” Mr Holthoff said. “So the security guards, in time, they brought a couple blankets out and they brought us a cup of water and I used it to put some ice on her lips.”

As they continued to wait, Ms Holthoff told her husband that she felt she was dying.

“I think that she actually started saying that she thought she was dying in the waiting room outside,” Gunter continued. “She said, ‘I think I’m dying. Don’t let me die here’”.

His wife was then taken to a room with a bed, but no medical equipment. A nurse checked her blood pressure and found it to be alarmingly low.

She then received more urgent care and a doctor came to see her. An X-ray was prepped, but she was unable to breathe.

“The next thing is [her] eyes rolled back in her head and her chest started rising. Something started beeping,” he said. “The next thing you hear is over the PA, ‘code blue, code blue in X-ray.’”

“Even if she would have survived at that point... she had too long a time without sufficient blood flow to the brain and vital organs. It would have been not a life worth living,” he said.

Mr Holthoff said the system is “obviously broken” and “we need change” as “I don’t want anybody else to go through this”.

Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin, a local MLA, wrote a letter to the provincial health minister to demand an “urgent investigation” into the case.

Alexandra Rose, the provincial co-ordinator for the Nova Scotia Health Coalition, said the situation is scary and the province’s healthcare system is in a “dire situation”.

“It’s so scary. And we have to wonder, when is the breaking point? Is this the breaking point now that somebody has passed away? It was a senseless death,” she said.
