2024s almost here so i gotta do a reminder that being selfish isnt inherently bad and you should absolutely choose yourself and priotize yourself sometimes. Take CARE of yourself goddammit!!!
ok, so last summer I subjected myself to the horrors of nonfiction and one of those things was a book about pirates and stuff and:
There was this one girl, born to a wealthy guy who had an affair-with-the-maid situation, and I think his wife divorced him over it, and he ran away with the girl, dressing her up as a boy so he could pass her off as his apprentice without anything seeming suspicious
There was another girl, who also got dressed up as a boy her whole childhood for Plot Reasons that I can't remember (except this is actually nonfiction, it really happened)
They both continued to crossdress into adulthood, one of them joined the army or something and the book said that the guy she was rooming with in the tents or barracks or whatever considered himself very lucky, and I think the other joined the navy or got on a merchant ship or something, still dressing as a man
And somehow both of them ended up on the same pirate ship, with Calico Jack
And THIS HAPPENED:
Or... almost happened I suppose
But there you go! [almost] lesbian pirates in real life!
Like they were genuinely attracted to each other (or at least for sure Anne Bonny was attracted to Mary Read) and would have probably gotten together if they knew what being lesbian was, their interaction went like this (based on my interpretation of what the text actually says)
Anne: *omg the new crewman is really hot holy heck*
("...found herself strongly attracted to the new member of the pirate crew")
Anne: *subtly slides over until they're both leaning over the prow looking at the stars together* "hey, um, just so you know?" *seductively* "I'm... a woman, actually."
("and in a quiet moment when they were alone she revealed herself as a woman")
Mary: *oh crap she's beautiful, this is great*
Mary: *wait shit I'm not *actually* a guy, I can't have sex with her she would find out eventually she's going to be so disapointed oh crap why couldn't I just actually be a boy*
("knowing what she would be at, and being sensible of her capacity in that way")
Mary: "I- I'm sorry, I can't- *I wish* I'm also a woman"
("...was forced to come to a right understanding with her" ... "she let her know that she was a woman also")
Mary: "I'm so sorry, I think we have to tell the captain" :(
("To avoid any further misunderstandings, Calico Jack was let into the secret")
Anne: "O-oh." :(
("...to the great disappointment of Anne Bonny")
*both of them are disappointed and assuming the other is straight*
But we can pretend that the author doesn't know the whole story and that they actually did get together, right?
BRUH a dude I know from work came in for the first time in months and I thought he looked different but couldn't figure out why?? So I asked if he'd changed his hair and he was like "BITCH I GOT TOP SURGERY"
saw someone refer to not knowing how to keep track of your money as "girl math" ......why are we in this weird era of treating women like idiots but repackaging it to sound cute and quirky. We All Need To Stop
I adore this recent trend (if that's the right word) of letting an orchestra play classical music on a festival. It's magical to see thousands of festival-goers going absolutely wild on Beethoven. Mosh/circlepits, crowd surfing. It's wonderful to see the orchestra and the audience having the time of their lives.
