SQUISHMALLOWS/BUM BUMZ ALTERNATIVE MASTERPOST

After posting my warning on Jazwares for supporting Israel, I've been asked time and time again to make my alternative plushies brands available for non-Twitter users, to which I say "absolutely, fuck that site." It's well overdue at this point, so here's my list of plush brands that are way better than Squishmallows and Bum Bumz!

Unfortunately can't provide images due to Tumblr's image limit, but I'll provide websites for you to search through when available.

Complete list is under a readmore for convenience.

Squishables: If you want that same "kawaii" aesthetic and round shapes, Squishables is your best bet. They're great too because a lot of their plush are designed by fans who are given a cut of their sales. Sign up for their email notifications, they have sales very often!

Amuse/Amufun: If you're really into the "kawaii" aesthetic, then it makes sense to look directly towards Japanese brands! You may know them for their Alpacasso line. It can be expensive to get them imported, but I think they're very much worth it.

Jellycat: I can't say I 100% recommend their newer plush anymore considering their steep decline in quality, but their older plush are still so wonderful and full of character. You're bound to find something by them that you like from their catalogue. (Editor's note: This is what my original thread said, but it seems like Jellycat has improved their quality control, so I feel much better with recommending them again!)

Mary Meyer: If JC is too much out of your price range, then Mary Meyer is what I recommend next to them! Their Marshmallow Zoo line is a huge favourite of mine, I love how full of character they are.

Aurora World: Aurora World has plenty of brands under their belt, so there's bound to be something that tickles your fancy. Brands under the Aurora World company include Palm Pals, Eco Nation, Miyoni, and their baby line, Ebba.

Steiff: Ah yes, the OG teddy bear brand, the one that started it all and is still going strong. Be warned that they can get pretty expensive depending on what you're looking at, but I hear that they're so worth every single penny.

Douglas Cuddle Toys: Probably the quintessential plush brand when it comes to realistic plush, especially cats and dogs, but they have tons of other species available too! Pretty affordable too if you're buying them at retail price

Wild Republic: Another one that does more realistic-looking plush, but I think they have a wider selection of species to choose from. If you're looking for a niche animal, Wild Republic (likely) has you covered!

Shinada Morisaka Global: Another plush brand I have yet to get my hands on, but one that I hear fantastic things about. I mean come on, how can you not love these little guys??

Pokemon Center: Jazwares unfortunately holds the license to make Pokemon plush, but that doesn't mean they're your only option when it comes to Pokeplush! TPC has been making their own Pokeplush for ages now, and they have plenty of different lines to suit your tastes.

Sunlemon: They're expensive to get imported but oh my god are they worth it. The quality is truly umatched compared to American plushies, I adore my tanuki to bits. Please get more eyes on their stuff.

Prime Shiba: Definitely a more expensive option, but I think they're cute plushies for every dog lover. Their stuff often goes on sale often so definitely take advantage of them!

Plushie Dreadfuls: You've probably seen one of their mental illness-themed bunnies before, but have you seen their Pride and Zodiac collections too? They also have many generic-looking plush if the personalization isn't up your alley! Ok so this was in my Twitter thread but apparently since then some shit has gone down with the company CEO making some offhand remarks that got misinterpreted but he acted like an ass in response to it, I recommend doing your own research on it before you buy in case that's not something you wanna support.

StrawbunnyCake: Want to go more small business? Consider supporting a fellow disabled creator, StrawbunnyCake! Their stuff is adorable, and you're sure to fall in love with their characters.

Hannimations: Also on the list of small businesses is Hannimator! Easily best known for their Pride-related Colourful Puppies/Kittens plush lines

Paleoplushies: If you're super into dinosaurs and other preshistoric animals, then Paleoplushies is sure to have something you'll like! They're all handmade by a single artist, so please show them your love and kindness

Cirquell Curiosities: Another great small business to support, most known for their high-end demon goat plushies! A lot of their stuff is one of a kind too, so they're the place to go if you're looking for a unique plush.

Snughouls: The unique and elusive Care Weres line by McMadMissile is sure to win over your heart! It originally started as just being the werewolves, but has since expanded to all kinds of demonic creatures from the Kickstarter! There's even some designs waiting to be funded!

The plush you can look up its a Coroham i think. Amuse (a company) that made the Alpacasso plushes also make these cute hamsters. they come in a variety of styles and sizes. some even are backpacks or blankets.

As for if you’re asking about the img i just found it on pinterest and drew glasses on it. Idk why but i probably thought it was funny. ‘teehee it like a shizu-ham’ something like that. 

But no I don’t actually own one.

Friends to More (Jeon Wonwoo)

Hi everyone! My supposed to be relaxing weekend ended up being very long and stressful, so Erin’s gonna update now in hopes of calming down (I’m also hugging my new Alpacasso who I named Jin whoops). Onto our favorite sloth! (casually going to label these all as the nicknames I have for them)

You and Wonwoo became friends by accident

You both knew Mingyu

And were waiting for him after school one day

In the same place

At the same time

Because Mingyu lowkey forgot he was meeting both of you whoops

So naturally, being the only two people just awkwardly waiting in a hallway, a conversation started

Just basic, common stuff

Talking about classes, teachers, movies, basic stuff

Then he mentioned if his friend didn’t show up soon he was going to go home and play his game with Seungcheol It was game night after all

And you asked what game, and when he told you, you gasped, causing the poor boy to jump

“THAT’S MY FAVORITE GAME”

SO you two spent like a half hour arguing over the game

Now, you had seen Wonwoo before

He always seemed really quiet and little scary tbh

So the fact that you were now in a lowkey heated argument over whether or not a character in a video game is necessary or not, watching the expressions change on his face and hearing him be so into it

You were a little thrown off

And you felt a crush growing

Then Mingyu remembered showed up and was real confused to see you two sitting in front of lockers half yelling at each other

Boy literally just quietly backed away and decided to just let you two be

“OKAY we’ll play the game, you using the useless character, me using literally any other character, and we’ll see who wins.” He said, and naturally you were like

“UH YOU’RE ON”

So you went to your separate homes and played the game together, you ended up winning more times than not

“Alright fine, they’re not TOTALLY useless.” Wonwoo said through the messenger and you grinned. “I gotta get some sleep. Night buddy.”

And the little crush deflated real quick

Your class was confused the next morning when he sat next to you in one of your classes and started to ask your opinion on another character, which again turned into a smaller argument

Thus your friendship officially began

People questioned it literally every day

Because you two were such polar opposites

He still had the slightly scary appearance and always wore dark or white clothing and intimidation

You were bright and positive and no one had issues approaching you

But you slowly learned how much his appearance wasn’t the truth

Everyday you slowly learned more and more about him

He recommended books to you every week you wanted to be more of a reader but never knew what kind of books to read and he would even lend them to you if he owned a copy

He became your new gaming buddy which you never had before not many of your friends were into gaming

He geeked out so HARD when he found out you had a cat

It’s the one time he literally invited himself over

“LISTEN PLEASE JUST LET ME PLAY WITH HIM JUST ONCE”

You were even shook watching him play with your cat who literally hissed at everyone, but sniffed Wonwoo two times and curled up on his leg Wonwoo tried so hard to not move but he was dying

You let him complain to you about all the inaccuracies in movies that you would see based off of books

You listened to him when he needed to vent about something on his mind, which didn’t happen often because he normally let things out pretty well

You even became partners in classes that you had together

If he seemed to really be in a mood or having a bad day, you would notice in like 10 seconds and invite him over to see your cat, his mood would lift like 3000% and he would focus on seeing your cat for the rest of the day

Now that little crush I mentioned earlier

Yeah you still had it

But you knew that Wonwoo just saw you as a friend that he could count on, so you decided not to say anything to him about it

I mean, it would go away soon, right?

Now, Wonwoo’s friends thought yall would be adorable together they’re not wrong

You could be like April and Andy from Parks and Rec

So they CONSTANTLY brought it up to Wonwoo Mingyu and Jun especially

“Hey Woo, Y/N is really pretty today, huh?”

“Wonwoo, you know what today would be great for? Asking out Y/N.”

“Hey, if you have to carry the 2 in this equation, does that mean Wonwoo is going to ask out Y/N today?”

“Wonwoo, I beg of you, let my OTP happen”

He always brushed it off, shaking his head at his friends

Because obviously you guys are just friends

Obviously you didn’t feel that way about him

So one night, it was just you two at your house

Wonwoo had a bad day so you invited him over to watch Harry Potter and play with your cat

Your parents had gone out to dinner Wonwoo had been over enough times that they trusted you two, not to mention they liked him a lot and wanted you two to date too even your PARENTS shipped it so you two ordered in

While munching on pizza, Wonwoo could barely focus on the movie

Mingyu had told him earlier that day

“You know, when you realize you actually like them, it might be too late, and no offence dude, it’s pretty damn obvious”

For some reason that stuck in Wonwoo’s head all day

He didn’t think he had a crush on you

I mean sure, you two were close

You knew almost everything about each other

He read you better than anyone and you did the same for him

But it couldn’t be a crush

There’s no way

He kept sneaking little looks at you

His friends never lied when they said you were attractive

And you spend a lot of your time together

Lately, almost all of it

Now Wonwoo is a lot of things

But he’s not subtle

So after the 15th sneak peek, you paused the movie

“Alright what”

“Nothing”

“Wonwoo I swear to god, you’ve been looking at me all night. What.”

So, he took one look at you looking at him and then he spilled all of his thoughts

He expected the situation to get awkward, but it really didn’t

“Alright close your eyes” You said and he raised an eyebrow “Trust me, we’re going to try something that will settle this once and for all”

He gave you a look, but eventually closed his eyes

You took every ounce of courage you had in your body

And you leaned forward and kissed him

It was a short kiss, and you both just stared at each other for a couple seconds

‘OH NO’ you both thought

“I GOTTA GO” You both said, you running to your room and Wonwoo grabbing his coat and out the door.

You sat curled up on your bed, trying to process what just happened

You just ruined your friendship with him

That kiss definitely confirmed what you were feeling and that you did in fact have a crush on him

But the way he looked at you afterwards clearly said he didn’t feel the same way

So now you ruined the friendship for nothing

Meanwhile Wonwoo sat in front of your house, his head in his hands

He was confused that you did that

He was confused that he reacted the way he did

He was upset with Mingyu

Because that jerk was right

And now he didn’t know what to do

Because the panicked look on your face when he looked at you scared him more than anything

You both spent the whole night thinking you ruined everything

The next morning, you decided to just brush it off as a test thing and that clearly it meant nothing and then your friendship could continue

Wonwoo had originally decided the same thing

But then he saw you the next morning getting something out of your locker

And he suddenly changed his whole plan

Because dammit he did like you

So as he walked towards you, you prepared what you were going to say

“Look, Wonwoo, about last night I-”

Wonwoo did the last thing you expected from him

He put his hands one either side of your head and straight up kissed you

Like, boy kissed you

He pulled away and just smiled at you, you smiling back

“What um… What was that…?” He just shrugged.

“Something I meant to do, I guess.” He linked his hand with yours, and you both walked to your first class together

After a teacher wrote you both up for PDA

Mingyu and Jun actually cheered when you walked into your class holding hands

I was so excited when I bought this backpack labelled "Llama" something for about $7 at the 99 Cent Only store. Immediately I switched my things into it and my boyfriend and I went to Wallmart to pick up a few things for a stay-in movie date. Two employees at the self-checkout approached me. Both women cooed about my backpack, telling me how cute it was, asking me how much it was and wincing when I said $7, and then after building me up over it the first woman said, "Yeah, and you can keep your diaper in it." I was dumbfounded. They had built me up only to tear me down. My boyfriend hurried me away and tried to console me in the car once I had processed what had just happened. 

I believe that when people are spiteful like this, it's because they're frustrated that I feel free to express myself in a way that they don't. People do not target those that they empathize with. People target what they perceive as a threat. My happiness in my nonconformity threatened her rationale for why she represses something unconventional about herself. She spewed at me the reaction that she is afraid of receiving herself to validate her own fear, and therefor her own repression. I hope that some day she can come to peace with whatever she feels is weighing her down and learn to be happy being her true self.

When I went to Barns n Noble last week, I found a backpack with the exact same design but with blush and a symmetrical face by Alpacasso for $50... turns out mine is a knockoff. Don't support ripoff merch, but I still love my llapaca/ allama.

His name is Carl and he has received nothing but genuine comments since. Even if he didn't, I'd still love him. ...Don't let him near your hands. 🙌🏻

My favourite cake is he one I came up with for my last birthday. I came up with the recipe and my papa made it for me! The dough was crispy like cookies and it was filled with nougat buttercream. On top there was marzipan. It tasted like heaven ♥

Hello! I don’t recall reblogging a unicorn alpacasso but after searching I think you meant this?

This is NOT an authentic alpacasso, however, it’s not a bootleg copying an existing design. While it’s construction looks to be very similar to alpacasso, its design is unique (although iirc a community member used to make accessories to make alpacasso look like this!). Perhaps someone in the alpacasso tag was sharing pictures of theirs with their collection c:

Word of the month: Kurisumasu - Christmas

(Bonus trivia: Did you know December 7th is Christmas Tree Day?)

Shimi Choco Corn & Bourbon Tsum Tsum Cookies

Shimi Choco is not a new product to this blog, I get it fairly often through the Tokyo Treat boxes, and I think I got another bag of it in this box too. However, what makes this one interesting is hat it is white chocolate, which I don’t believe I’ve ever had before. I could be wrong. For anyone unfamiliar, Shimi Choco are star-shaped crispy puffed snacks with a sweet taste. These came in white chocolate or regular chocolate.

I’m not going to review this item as I get it so much, but I will say the white chocolate flavor is pretty good. I usually don’t like it. Each bag is also 324 calories (yikes). 

Our other item, which I will review are two biscuits covered in cute Christmas tsum tsum. One has vanilla (might be white chocolate) at the middle, and the other has chocolate.

They have flavor but at the same time they’re kind of bland. The biscuit is very soft so they would be suitable for any age, and the flavoring at the middle is un-sweet and doesn’t have very much taste. But for some reason I still kind of like them? But they left an unpleasant dryness in my mouth and throat too. I was left conflicted over them.

Also, as one could expect neither of these items are on Blippo.com so I couldn’t get a pricing on them.

Nekoni Christmas Stickers

Our next item is an adorable set of Christmas stickers. There was a variety these were available in, and they can be found on the Blippo website for either $2.40 or $1.90.

All of the sets include a variety of cute Christmas directions, present items, and characters. Looking at them they would all be perfect if you wanted to make a Christmas scene picture!

Stickers are stickers you know? I tested one and it works fine, it wasn’t hard to get off of the paper. They’re cute.

Alpacasso Plush

I’ve always had a fondness for alpaca and llama, so I could never turn down this little cutie. This specific line is the Good Night Alpacasso, featuring a variety of colorful Alpacasso with sleep caps, a star necklace; some even have bows.

This item must have wen fast because they had nothing on Blippo.

It’s so kawaii and soft~  I did notice a tiny little issue with the fur around it’s tail but it’s not that bad, all I had to do was snip it. The felt star tends to stick up which isn’t a big deal either, but it kind of annoys me anyway. I also noticed that the hat attracts hairs very easily.

Sanrio Cleaning Cloth

Isn’t that funny how we got 2 of these so close together? I’m not complaining or anything -this one is very cute- I just found it really amusing. I always keep these nearby because they come in handy wiping off the screen; in fact I have 2 for my 3DS (one for each I own), 2 I keep in the stand next to my bag, 1 I keep in my purse...

There was a variety of adorable Sanrio characters, each one is $4.50 on Blippo.

I love the “busy“ design and pastels. This is definitely the most decorative cleaning cloth I own, I love it!

Smiling Xmas Ornaments

For Christmas, these are 2 Kawaii Box exclusive decorations for the tree- or anywhere else you wish to hang up something kawaii. I put my arm over the picture due to the lighting making it too hard to see them well without being blinded.

On the Blippo website, they have a set of 12 of these for $9.90. They are held by string, and are made from plastic, so you don’t need to worry about any injury with these cuties~

I don’t really have anything I feel like I can say about these. I really like them though, and I did use them x3 they made the tree extra-cute. 12 for 9 dollars is a great deal if you ask me, so if you like them I’d recommend buying a set for yourself.

Mermaid Shell Coin Purse

This next item is a coin purse, which ironically doesn’t suit the winter season at all; but it does go well with summer, which is is now. It costs $4.90 on Blippo.

It’s a perfectly fine purse, I like how colorful and detailed it is. The zipper part works very smoothly, I love pulling it back and fourth but I actually don’t like this. It’s fine, but it’s just not my style...

Marshmallow Candy Cane Pen

A perfect partner for Christmas, the candy cane :D I love eating these, namely the regular mint or fruity flavors. I’ve never tried any of the “strange“ ones but it’s funny watching other people do it.

For 2.90 these are available on Blippo in a marshmallow style. They were available in either blue or pink.

I love marshmallows, I love candy canes. I really wish I got the pink one but this one is still really cute! The only thing that bugs me is that there’s no where to put the lid.

Pastel Harujuku Ring Set

Our final item is this really cute pastel set of Harujuku inspired rings. I didn’t see these on Blippo but I did see similar sets for $2.90.

These rings are a bit random in theme, including a flower, mushroom, a ruffled piece, a heart, a pineapple, a candy, and a strawberry candy(?). I wish we got more accessories from Kawaii Box, so I was happy to see these.

These are so cute, I love them! Unfortunately my fingers are a teensy bit too big for them, so this is about as far as I can it one. These would be more suited for children, or maybe a preteen? My hands aren’t that big but these kind of make them feel like they are <3<

♥ Cutie Ranking ♥

Content - ♥ ♥ ♥ I like the items, but I feel like I didn’t like this box nearly as much as I did the previous ones- which were kinds meh to me in the first place.

Theme - ♥ ♥ ♥ Compared to the previous one, I feel like they really did well, especially in comparison to the three other boxes I reviewed so far. It’s the only one that actually made me think of Christmas. 

Total Rank: 6 out of 10 Cuties. If I looked at this box and the past 2, I would definitely say this one did much better on the actual Holiday theme. BUT at the same time, while I loved a few of its items, I just wasn’t left LOVING this months box.

1. Alpacasso - When I got this box I had already made up my mind that this would be my favorite~

2. Ring Set - I’m in love with every single object these rings are made of. But when  look at them, I can’t help but think “neon pastels“.

3. Sanrio Cleaning Cloth - I love pastels and cutesy designs like this.

4. Shimi Corn Snacks - The packaging is very colorful and decorative; making them perfect for the holiday season!

5. Christmas Ornaments - Very cute to look at, I really need to find a place to put them where I can keep them out year round~

6. Candy Cane Pen - It’s really cute, but kind of plain. I also hate being unable to put the cap on something, I always worry they’ll go missing.

7. Tsum Tsum Biscuits - They were okay in taste, I really thought the packaging was cute though.  

8. Christmas Stickers - They really make me feel like I’m enjoying a wonderful winter scene~

9. Mermaid Shell Purse -  Like i said, the quality is great. I just don’t care much for it’s aesthetic or look personally.

This leads to Mei either jabbing him with her elbow or kicking him in the shins. So far she hasn’t done anything else and he’s thankful.

They’ve gone to arcades to win stuffed prizes, and each time Eiji’s given the important task of with winning Mei a new Alpacasso for her growing collection.

Every time he doesn’t get the prize, Mei questions if he’s even a gamer. When he does win one, Mei will let the alpaca sit next to her on the train while Eiji is stuck sitting next to the colorful plush.

The one time he tried to do a kabedon on her, the action backfired and he realized girls are not as easily won over by the dumb action as in the games (and anime). 

When Mei drags him along to one of the parties, he stands awkwardly by the food and hopes she’ll come save him from all the guests asking him questions in Korean. Why can’t they see his nametag is in Japanese????

Their friendship hovers between tolerating each other and borderline terrible flirting. Mei could kiss his cheek while he’s distracted with a game and he’ll ignore it. But if she makes him drop his phone when he wants to show her a game then that’s a whole different story.

Eiji’s painfully oblivious to Mei’s so called “yandere” mode, so he always thinks she’s joking when she texts some concerning messages. Often time’s he’ll just respond with a kaomoji or a dog photo.

He used to let her teach him Korean, but then stopped when he realized she was teaching him the wrong introduction phrases on purpose.
