Sometimes I will go on tiktok and I see a slideshow like "Star Wars men >>>>>>>>>>" and I think hell yeah they have some truly beautiful men in the originals, prequels, sequels and spin-off shows, and then I'll scroll through we have the standard Anakin, Obi Wan, Din Djarin, Poe, and I think yeah baby, and then I am jUMPSCARED by kylo ren being there. And then I want to throw OP off a bridge. Take him OFF that slideshow immediately he doesn't deserve to be amongst the ranks of men that I would let do some truly depraved things to me.

SPOILERS!!! REFERENCES AND EASTER EGGS IN F&C ep. 7: THE STAR
Let's see what this episode has in store.
Tumblr media
This is an alternate universe where Simon was killed by vampires before he found Marceline. Even the scientific parasite in his breast pocket looks like it has been drained of blood.
Tumblr media
Our Simon demonstrating his survival skills. We never got to see him dealing with vampires in his own universe, but presumably he ran into them a few times and is familiar with their weaknesses.
Tumblr media
These kinds of vampire minions last appeared in the Stakes miniseries. They are a lot more varied in design now. Also, the architecture of this world is interesting. It looks like gothic palaces have been built into the roots of decaying skyscrapers.
Tumblr media
Bonnie's crew has several of the familiar vampire hunting tools from Stakes, including stake launchers and garlic bombs. They also douse some of the vampires in holy water, which was previously shown to harm demons in the episode Dad's Dungeon. This is the first time it's been seen working on vampires.
Tumblr media
Marshall Lee has a Hambo mirror decoration. In the prime universe Hambo was Marceline's toy teddy bear, given to her by Simon.
Tumblr media
Martin is an interesting choice for Bonnie's crew. In this universe it seems like he never had a son, since the humans presumably never left Ooo for the Islands. It also seems like he's a better person here, willing to risk his life to follow Fionna's noble lead. He has the same jacket as he had in The Visitor, which several people identified when we first saw Fionna wearing it in the trailer.
Tumblr media
The cat on Bonnie's mug is Timmy from the episode The Pajama War. The fact she broke it is surely the most heartbreaking loss of this episode :(
Tumblr media
The other member of the team is Huntress Wizard, who looks to be a human in this universe for some reason. I don't think Huntress Wizard was originally human in the prime universe.
Tumblr media
Baby Finn snuck into this universe, and by the end of the episode was left to be raised by self-repairing battletank single gay dad PepButt. I'm sure he'll turn out fine.
Tumblr media
The Cosmic Owl has been flagged up on Scarab's arrest list for "profiteering". Perhaps his neglect of his duties during Hoots has been discovered, or perhaps this is a new crime.
Tumblr media
There are loads of new genderswapped characters in this scene. I've already reblogged a post listing all the ones we've spotted so far, so refer to that for details. The most significant is Ms. Abadeer. According to the credits, her first name is Hana.
Tumblr media
Even Billy has been slain by vampires.
Tumblr media
Princess Bubblegum calls Fionna a dillweed, her go-to insult from the episode Hot Diggity Doom. It's good to hear some Adventure Time swearing from time to time despite the liberties they're taking with the TV-14 rating.
Tumblr media
Enter the titular character! Like the other members of the Vampire Court from Stakes, Marceline has taken a new name from the ranks of the Major Arcana of a tarot deck: The Star. Huntress mentions that she is the last member of the court, having outlived everyone beside the Vampire King himself. The fact she can fly suggests she killed and sucked The Fool's soul despite him being a fellow member of the court.
Tumblr media
She is seen using her soul-sucking demon powers, inherited from Hunson, on Martin. She also demonstrates that she has no problem drinking blood in this universe, despite the fact vampires can eat the colour red.
Tumblr media
Bonnie and The Star have such an interesting dynamic in this episode. It seems like fate is seeking to entwine them, but this has been twisted into a relationship of mutual hatred. Yet The Star is furious when a minion suggests she kill Bonnie, and Bonnie fails to take an opportunity to kill The Star later on. Something is keeping these two immortals in an eternal dance, even in a universe where they are arch nemeses.
Tumblr media
A lot of this series has centred around Simon's relationship to fatherhood, and realising that he is a better dad than some of the others he's met will likely end up being a key moment in his recovery.
Tumblr media
I believe this section was boarded by Hannah K. You've probably all seen her famous Bubbline stakeplay drawing. This scene must have been fun to draw.
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed the parallel of Gary and Marshall getting their climactic kiss while Bonnie and The Star fell together to their deaths, demonstrating that the girls' fall was just as gay as the boys kissing, but in a very different way. We also know from interviews that Gary and Marshall's relationship is supposed to parallel that of early Bubbline in the prime universe. Perhaps Princess Bubblegum got Marceline out of a bad deal with Hunson Abadeer, shortly after their first meeting at Marceline's concert, and that's when they first hit it off.
Tumblr media
The dream in this episode's credits features Marceline's house; a home that neither The Star nor this Marshall Lee have ever known.

Racing Hearts - Chapter Fourteen

Mature Themes: Includes themes of danger, crime, and emotional intensity. Language: Mild profanity and intense dialogue. Intimacy: Kissing and close physical contact (non-explicit).
The tires of the van crunched against the gravel as it pulled up alongside the dense woods. The cabin emerged from the shadows, its aged wood whispering secrets of the past. The air had tension as we stepped out into the cool evening, the crunch of our footsteps echoing through the otherwise silent clearing.
"Welcome to our little slice of heaven," Micheal quipped, his sarcasm belying the seriousness of the situation. The cabin looked more like a relic than a bastion of safety, but the dense woods that enveloped it promised a certain level of protection.
I watch as Finn walks off into the darkness; the moon casting a pale glow on his determined form. I follow Sofia inside the cabin, where she immediately starts setting up her laptop and various gadgets on a dusty table, the glow of her screens piercing the shadows. The cabin smells faintly of damp wood and disuse.
"We need to be prepared for anything," said Anthony, his eyes scanning the cabin's perimeter as if he could spot danger through the window. "I propose working in shifts to keep us all sharp."
Gabriel nodded, his gaze thoughtful. "I agree. We'll also establish escape routes. The woods offer us cover, but they can also be a liability if we're not careful."
"Anything I can do to help?" I ask. My arm was still tender from the bullet graze, but I refused to be sidelined.
"You should rest, Lily," said Finn, walking through the front door, his eyes sweeping over me with concern.
“Did you take a break like the doctor told you to when you got shot three days ago?” I ask, eyeing the bandage that peeks out from beneath his shirt.
Finn laughs, but there's a hint of admiration in his eyes. "Fine, you win. But don't overdo it."
I roll up my sleeves and help the others. We spend hours setting up a makeshift command centre, mapping escape routes and establishing a watch schedule. The adrenaline coursing through my veins dulls the ache in my arm.
The air is thick with the scent of pine and the faint smell of gunpowder, a stark reminder of the danger we're in. Despite the pain, I feel alive, my mind sharp and focused.
As the sun dips below the horizon, casting the cabin in a warm orange glow, I finally allow myself to take a break. Finn notices my fatigue and gently guides me to the porch swing outside.
We sit down, the creaking of the wood a comforting sound in the otherwise stillness of the woods. He takes my hand, his touch sending a jolt of warmth through me.
"How are you, Lils," he says, his voice low and serious, "really?"
"Lils?" I question, my face heating up at the intimacy of the nickname. I look down at our entwined hands.
"Is that ok?" Finn asks, his eyes searching mine. "It's what I used to call you back in high school."
A soft smile plays on my lips. "It's… it's nice to hear it again."
Finn squeezes my hand gently. "You know, I never thought I'd see you again after high school. And now, here we are."
I nod, feeling the weight of everything that has transpired since we parted ways. "Me neither."
Finn's gaze is intense. "Lils, I can't bear the thought of anything happening to you." His voice is raw with emotion. "Please promise me next time I ask you to stay safe, you'll do it."
I look into his eyes, my heart pounding. "I'll try," I murmur, knowing that my impulsiveness often overrides caution.
Finn's expression softens, and he leans in, brushing his lips against mine in a gentle kiss. It's a sweet promise of a future we dare not speak of yet, but one we both desperately want. Our kiss deepens, the warmth of his embrace offering a brief reprieve from the cold reality outside. His arms wrap around me, pulling me closer as if trying to shield me from the dangers lurking beyond the cabin.
When we finally pull away, we're both breathless. The moment lingers between us, a silent promise of what we're fighting for. "I'm not going anywhere," I whisper, trying to convey my resolve. "Not without you."
Finn smiles, a hint of relief in his eyes. "Good," he says, his thumb brushing gently against my cheek.
We go back into the cabin. The atmosphere inside is tense, a stark contrast to the peace we'd found on the porch. The room is a flurry of activity: Gabriel is discussing strategy with Michael and Anthony, while Sofia types furiously on her laptop, her brow furrowed in concentration. They all look up as we enter, the tension in the room palpable.
The makeshift command centre is a table scattered with laptops, burner phones, and a large map of the city with various locations marked in red. It's clear that the Rossi’s are no strangers to needing to lay low. The seriousness of the situation settles over me like a heavy blanket.
"We've got to get ahead of this," Finn says, his voice firm. "We can't just sit here and wait for the next attack."
Anthony nods, his eyes scanning the map. "Agreed. We need to find this 'Maverick' before he does any more damage."
Sofia stands, her heels clicking against the hardwood floor as she pushes her chair back. "I've found something," she says, her voice steady despite the urgency in her eyes. She points to the screen of her laptop, displaying a series of financial transactions and properties associated with the alias. "These are all recent purchases, and they're all linked to Maverick."
The room falls silent as everyone gathers around the table, leaning in to examine the information. Michael whistles lowly, "Looks like our boy's been busy."
"We need to hit it." Michael adds, his eyes dark with determination. "Maverick's been playing with fire for too long."
"Calm down sparky," Finn says, placing a hand on his shoulder. "We can't just barge in without a plan."
Anthony nods in agreement. "Finn's right. We need to know what we're walking into."
"We'll split into two teams," Gabriel suggests, his voice firm and authoritative. "One to keep gathering intel, the other to prepare for an assault."
"And what if there are too many men?" I ask, "We can't expand our team, he could be anyone."
"We'll handle it," Finn says, looking at me with reassurance. "We've faced worse."
But the doubt lingers in my mind. I'm unable to remain silent, the words tumbling from my mouth before I can stop them. "What if you use me as bait?" The room goes still, the only sound is the crackling of the fireplace. "Patrick wants me and Maverick might be watching for a chance to take me back. If we make it look like I'm vulnerable, we could draw him out."
Finn's eyes widened in horror. "Absolutely not." His voice is a low growl, he grabs my hand, his grip firm. "We're not using you as bait."
"It might be the fastest way to get to him," I argue, my voice steady despite the pounding in my chest. "We can end this."
The firelight casts shadows on Anthony's face. "It's a risky play, but it could work," he says, eyeing me.
"Are you insane?" Finn's voice is a thunderclap in the quiet room. "There's no way in hell I'm letting you use her as bait."
Anthony holds up a hand to calm the sudden storm. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's a risky move, but perhaps we should consider it."
Sofia nods. "How about that as a backup plan?" She suggests, her voice steady despite the gravity of the situation. "We focus on tracking down Maverick's location."
"And what if we don't find him?" I ask, my voice echoing the urgency I feel.
"Then we'll revisit the plan," Gabriel says firmly, his gaze unwavering. "But for now, let's not rush into anything that could put any of us in unnecessary danger."
Finn's jaw clenches, but he nods reluctantly. He turns to me, his blue eyes searching mine. "Lily, you said you would try to stay safe."
"I'm sorry Finn, but the sooner this is over, the sooner I will be safe," I reply, my voice laced with a mix of determination and pain.
Finn sighs heavily. "I'm going to check the perimeter," he says, standing up. His boots echo through the cabin as he heads outside. I go to follow him, but Sofia stops me with a gentle hand.
"Best to let him cool off," she whispers, her eyes full of understanding."You can talk it out when he's calmer."
Sofia's advice lingers in the air as I watch Finn disappear into the night. I nod, knowing she's right. His protectiveness is both comforting and stifling. Inside, the tension is palpable. We spent the next few hours planning, with me restlessly pacing the cabin floor.
"Lily," Anthony's voice cuts through the silence, "can I talk to you?"
I turn to face him, my pacing coming to a halt. "Sure," I say, trying to keep my voice steady.
Anthony approaches, his footsteps heavy. " I just want you to know that I admire your strength," he says, his eyes searching mine. "What you've been through… what you're willing to do for us… it's not lost on me."
I bite my lip, unsure of how to respond. "Thank you."
"But using you as bait…" he sighs heavily, his eyes reflecting the flickering candlelight. "It's a dangerous gamble."
I nod solemnly, understanding his concern. "I know," I reply, "but sometimes you have to take a risk to protect those you love."
Anthony's gaze softens. "I know you'd do anything for Finn," he continues, "I would too, he's family."
"I know you would," I reply, a warmth spreading through me.
Anthony's eyes harden as he leans in closer. "That means I need to protect you too," he says firmly. "You're not just a piece in this game, you're a part of our family now."
The gravity of his words resonates with me. Despite the chaos and fear, there's a comfort in knowing that these people, who were once strangers, now stand by me. Yet, the thought of any one of them getting hurt or worse because of me is unbearable. I swallow the lump in my throat and nod.
"Thank you," I murmur, genuinely touched by his words. A small part of me relaxes, feeling less like a burden and more like a valued member of their makeshift family.
The evening stretches on, tension simmering beneath the surface as we wait for a break in the case. I watch Finn from across the room, his jaw clenched as he stares at the maps sprawled across the table, trying to piece together our next move. I know he's still wrestling with the idea of me being bait, and I can't blame him. It's a dangerous gamble, but one I'm willing to take to bring an end to this nightmare.
Sofia notices my gaze and approaches, her eyes full of understanding. "Why don't you get some rest?" she suggests, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder. "We're going to need you at full strength if we have to go with plan B."
I nod, conceding to her logic, and make my way to the room that's been designated as mine. The mattress is surprisingly comfortable, I kick off my shoes and lay down, staring at the ceiling. A knock on the door breaks the silence, and I sit up, expecting it to be one of Sofia checking in. Instead, it's Finn, his eyes tired.
"Can I come in?" he asks, his voice low and sincere.
I nod, and he steps into the room, closing the door behind him. He crosses the space between us. "I'm sorry for walking out earlier," he says, his words coming out in a rush. "It's just… I can't stand the thought of you in danger."
"I'm sorry for making you worry," I reply, my voice barely above a whisper.
Finn sighs, running a hand through his hair. "I know you're trying to help, and I admire your bravery, but it's just a little too much." His voice cracks, revealing his deep concern.
I bite my lip, not knowing what to say. His protective instincts are palpable, and the way he looks at me, with a mix of anger and fear, tells me that he's been holding back a lot more than I realised. I reach out and place my hand on his arm, feeling the warmth of his skin and the tension beneath.
"I know it's risky," I concede, "but I have to do something. I can't just sit here and wait for them to come for us."
Finn's gaze locks onto mine, the intensity of his stare causing my heart to race. "I know," he says finally. He pulls me up, gently but firmly, and into a warm embrace. I can feel his heart pounding against my cheek, I wrap my arms around his waist. We stand there for a moment, holding onto each other as if we can keep the world at bay by doing so.
Taking a deep breath, I pull back slightly and look up at him. "There's something you need to know," I murmur, feeling the weight of my words before they even leave my lips. "When I was held captive by Patrick, he… he hurt me, in ways I never thought possible. He was very creative in coming up with ways to break me down and use me."
Finn's eyes widen, and his grip tightens around me. "I'm so sorr-"
"No," I cut him off. "I don't need you to be sorry. I just need you to understand why I can't let him win. Do you understand what I'm telling you?"
Finn's gaze never leaves mine as he nods solemnly. "I do," he says, his voice a low rumble. "And I'm here for you, I need you to know that."
My heart feels like it's racing a thousand miles an hour as I watch the emotions play across Finn's face. His expression is a whirlwind of anger, pain, and understanding, and for a moment, I feel exposed, like I've handed him the keys to the darkest parts of my mind. But then his arms wrap around me again, pulling me close.
"Thank you," he whispers, his voice hoarse with emotion.
I leaned into his warmth, my eyes closed, "for what?" I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.
"For trusting me," he replies.
We stand there for a moment, the air thick with unspoken words and the heavy burden of my not so distant past. Then, gently, he releases me and steps back. "You should rest," he says, his voice gruff.
"Stay with me?" I ask, my voice small and shaky. I don't want to be alone with the memories that threaten to consume me.
Finn nods. "Always." He takes my hand in his, his warmth seeping into my cold skin. He helps me settle onto the bed, wrapping his arms around me. I lean into his embrace, feeling the steady beat of his heart against my back. His presence is a comforting reminder that I'm not alone anymore.
For a while, we lay there in silence, the quiet punctuated only by the distant sound of rain against the cabin windows. I turn in his arms to face him, looking into his eyes. I reach out to touch his cheek, feeling the stubble under my fingertips. "Thank you," I whisper.
Finn's expression softens, his thumb brushing gently over the back of my hand. "You don't have to thank me, Lils."
I give a small, sad smile. "I know. But I need to." I pull him down into a desperate kiss, feeling his surprise before he returns it with equal passion. It's a kiss filled with need and relief. His arms tighten around me and my hands go up into his hair, holding him close. We kiss until we're both breathless, until the pain in my chest eases a little.
When we pull apart, we're both panting. "We should get some rest," he murmurs, but there's something in his voice that tells me he doesn't want to let go.
"Okay," I agree, even though sleep feels like a strange concept. We lay down, my head on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart. His hand rests on my waist, and the warmth of his touch grounds me. I'm safe here, with him.
The rain outside turns into a gentle lullaby, and before long, my eyelids start to droop. Finn's strong arms hold me tight, his warmth enveloping me like a protective shield. For a moment, I allow myself to believe that everything will be okay.

For months, Etsy has become littered with a new genre of T-shirt: the Donald Trump mug shot. And they’re available in two main styles: Guity AF and Not Guilty. The shirts are adorned with photos of the former US president appearing as if he’d just been booked, but until very recently, they’ve been fakes—most of them unconvincing ones. Etsy sellers have been uploading them to the platform since at least March, as Trump has been indicted for numerous alleged crimes. Even Trump’s own campaign released a fake mug shot T-shirt to raise money.
But yesterday, the 2024 Republican presidential candidate was finally subjected to the criminal tradition of a mug shot in Georgia, where he has been indicted on charges relating to attempts to overturn 2020 election results in the state. It’s the fourth indictment against Trump, who now faces 91 felony charges in four jurisdictions. Trump maintains that he committed “no crime.”
In an era where manipulated images have captured our attention, Trump’s real mug shot—a simple, poorly lit photo—has achieved historic hype. It’s not that the image alone is notable—Trump is among the most recognizable faces in the world, and he chose to pose for the shot with his eyebrows knitted in his signature, serious look.
Still, it’s the first mug shot of a US president. (Justice officials in the former president’s three other criminal cases opted to skip that part of the process.) And that image, as plain as it is, may become one of the most important photos Trump has ever taken.
“The AI-generated ones, no matter how good they are, will eventually be seen as AI-generated. Fakes will be known as fakes,” says Jonathan Finn, a professor of communication studies at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, who wrote the book Capturing the Criminal Image: From Mug Shot to Surveillance Society. But the real mug shot “will last forever. It will have all the history and associations tied to it.”
After Trump’s mug shot was released last night, it flooded the internet, supplanting the fakes that spread before the real thing was released. It appeared on Instagram stories, as memes, and on Trump’s own social network, Truth Social. After surrendering to Georgia authorities, Trump even made his first post on X, formerly Twitter, since his account was reinstated by Elon Musk late last year. “Election interference, never surrender,” a post featuring the picture reads.
Mug shots serve a practical purpose: to identify the person accused of a crime, and document their physical status at the time of an arrest. But media coverage of crimes that included mug shots have contributed to harmful stereotypes of people of color, who are arrested at disproportionate rates. Their publication can also make a person appear guilty of the accusations against them before they’ve had a fair trial.
But Trump finds himself in a different position, where viewers of the mug shot will likely be split: Those who support Trump may see a man wrongfully accused while those who presume him guilty may see it as validation of their beliefs.
Trump's mug shot has already moved beyond its intended purpose of tying him to alleged crimes in Georgia. The different political alignments shared on social media with the mug shot, and even satirical uses, all advance the image out of its initial context. This is a common phenomenon of posts online: As images and posts move to large audiences, they can experience what is called context collapse. That’s when intent and common understanding around the source of a post disappears as it moves widely to other groups. With people giving the mug shot meme treatment or plastering it on partisan T-shirts, that’s already happening.
“I think it’s a certainty there will be context collapse around any prominent image that can be interpreted or misinterpreted by different communities, both wilfully and accidentally,” says Sam Gregory, executive director of Witness, a nonprofit organization focused on using images and videos for protecting human rights. And with numerous versions of a Trump mug shot circulating online, people may have different memories and associations of the historical event. “We’ll remember the one that we saw in a context that made it memorable to us,” Gregory says.
By this morning, a search for Trump mug shots on Etsy featured many new products sporting the real thing. Trump’s campaign is slapping the photo on mugs, T-shirts, and koozies. Fakes will remain, and some people will be duped. But the real Trump mug shot will be the one for the history books.

Note
do you have any OCs or original species?
I have three main ocs!
the first one is John Reddington
Tumblr media
He is like, 30 years old, a crow, and runs the galaxy's largest criminal empire. he uses this empire to help people and dismantle major corporations that run the galaxy. Hes a god with a revolver (specifically a Unica 6) and excellent at hand to hand combat. (obligatory overpowered OC moment) His parents were murdered when he was 12 and the man who killed them adopted him and made him into the crime god and excellent fighter he is today. after he found out how his parents died, he usurped his adoptive father, killed him, and then made his own empire to right the wrongs he made over the past decade or so.
The second one, is also my fursona (John used to be, before my transed gender) Her name is April Aviatrix.
Tumblr media
shes a radio hobbyist who went to college for electrical engineering (ref is outdated). In the universe where my oc's are set, radio is kinda really outdated, and music overall has become boring (think Human music from rick and morty [god forgive i mention it]) and one day, while messing around with radios in the spaceship equivalent of a ford pinto, she intercepted a signal that was playing music she had never heard before (70's progressive rock) and decided to track down where it was coming from, to find a post apocalyptic Earth, where all humans are dead. She found the source of the signal, which is a massive radio beacon, attached to a half destroyed museum of music, which had all kinds of instruments, and gear, and a massive collection of music made by human beings on massive amounts of hard drives. She took all of the music into her futuristic thumbdrive, including schematics for synths, guitar amps, guitar pickups, pianos, etc. just anything and everything that the museum had on its barely functioning computers. she was able to turn all of this stuff into workable stuff, and taught herself guitar and other instruments, and performs in a local bar every once in a while, that she works as a bartender at (the electrical engineering degree didn't do much). anyways eventually (i ahve no idea how) she ends up meeting John Reddington, going "join my emo band (rush cover band)" and he ends up being absolutely Phenomenal on a drumkit. and she ends up second in command in the empire, as her electrical engineering knowledge is extremely helpful, alongside her being the only genuine connection to another person John's had since he was 12. She uses an HK-USP-S
the last one is Vincent, which. Hes kinda in limbo right now. He used to be a seagull:
Tumblr media
and that was pretty neat i think, but i stopped really caring about him as much once i transitioned. Hes supposed to be a bluejay now, but i haven't drawn it, and he plays bass (specifically a Thunderbird). He doesn't really have much of a personality anymore, as that job's been taken over by April. He does wield a fucked up sword that looks like a lawnmower blade.
I have ideas for others, like a rwby oc specifically who has bands around her arms that can turn into swords (think Finn's grass sword, only not hold able, and more attached at the back of the hand like the pacific rim sword) or gauntlets or be used for mobility. Shes neat. Still thinking about a semblance for her though.

in your opinion, what is the best and the worst movie featuring emily blunt in a main or supporting role? not her best or worst performance, just the movie itself
we got a load question here i see! i feel like i am going to upset someone somewhere on this planet/galaxy. feature films are what we are going to base this on because if we included her tv movies, well that would be a whole ballpark of worst. also this is probably going to be a bit long so i'm going to do a cut.
BEST FILM: A QUIET PLACE
Tumblr media
okay but hear me out on this. this is also coming from a person that does not like horror films or movies that are designed to scare you. i get anxiety watching them and i have an overactive imagination that my brain will tell me oh well this fictional character could be behind this shower curtain so you should check that.
i know that i can already hear people saying why isn't my answer oppenheimer. that movie had me crying because i thought it was never going to end. oppenheimer wouldn't have even made number two, two would have been edge of tomorrow if i had to pick a runner up.
a quiet place overall shows the beauty and terror of that post-apocalyptic world. not only is emily's performance in this film amazing, the actress that plays the daughter, millicent simmonds, is amazing in her role as well. there was just something about when i watched this movie in theatres. i was so full of anxiety during this film and even lingered for a bit afterwards. there were parts of this movie that i held my breathe through, sobbed, and so many emotions. i honestly think that this movie deserves more praise than it gets. i also think emily was snubbed for not at least getting nominated for an academy award on this film.
WORST FILM: GULLIVER'S TRAVELS
Tumblr media
i want you to know that this movie is so bad that i couldn't even find a gif to include here from tumblr, so i had to make one. i literally made one for this terrible movie. the shame i just felt having giffed this movie. feel free to steal this gif, don't even credit me, don't associate this with me at all please.
where do i even begin with the problems of this film? this entire film is a crime against cinema and i say that with my whole chest. i am a fan of jack black and i honestly thought this film was going to be good. the personalities of everyone in this film feel so wrong. i swear jack black's character is just dewey finn from school of rock, which would have been great, if it didn't feel so out of place. emily blunt basically plays a ditzy bimbo ( so great? yay? who knows. ) once again emily has to play a character that finds jason segel attractive and that is acting in itself i tell you.
the cast of this film should have made this such a great film! it has catherine tate, jack black, billy connolly, and emily blunt. if you truly hate yourself you can watch this movie. i've seen it once and that was enough for me. if i ever forget everything about myself this is the one point that will be so ingrained in my brain that i'll never forget how terrible it was.

Planet Z Theory
An Alphabet Lore Creepypasta
We all know the letters of the alphabet from Alphabet Lore, especially the planet Z themselves. And we all know the villainous numbers from Number Lore. But did you know that all of the letters and numbers are figments of a man's imagination inside a dream and that Z was that man? Allow me to illuminate.
Let's start with the Z himself a.k.a. Ezekiel Zimmermann, or Zeke for short. Zeke was a journalist, hearing about the tragedies in his town. Zeke had always felt sorry for the victims of those tragic events and wished that he could do something about it. Unfortunately, that day never arrived when he was caught in a horrific car accident. Zeke had survived, but unfortunately, the car crash put the poor man straight into a coma. The comatose Zeke was put on life support, trapped in an eternal sleep and an everlasting dream of him being a planet and a "Z", with the dead people as letters and numbers.
The first three people were Alejandro Anderson, an albino man and a chill dude, Bradley Blue a friendly man who loves butterflies and Charlie Campbell a cool, yet tough guy. A trio of best friends and the incarnations of A, B and C. Alejandro, Bradley and Charlie all died on different days. Alejandro was killed after being hit by a taxi cab while he was reading, Bradley died in a plane crash while he was bringing a butterfly collection home and Charlie was violently torn limb from limb by wild animals while he was camping in the woods and his bloody remains were eaten afterwards.
Daniel Drew was the next unfortunate soul. He was a happy, loving, cheerful man with a positive attitude. Although Daniel may not be smart, he is actually happy about his life. Unfortunately, his life ended when an angry man came along and beat poor Daniel with no mercy. Apparently, Daniel had accidentally scratched the man's car while he wasn't looking. Daniel died of his injuries on his way to the hospital. D became the reincarnation of the late Daniel Drew.
Ethan Evans was a cool dude and a lady's man just like his reincarnation, E. With a pompadour hairstyle and a knack for impersonating Elvis Presley, Ethan had everything he ever dreamed of; money, popularity, riches, woman, you name it. But all that changed when Ethan was bludgeoned in the head with an aluminum bat by accident during a game of pinata. Ethan's dreams were shattered just like his skull and he dropped dead.
Finneas Foster, a.k.a. F, was abandoned as a baby with no family and was sent to an orphanage where he was bullied by other kids for being clad in black clothing. The caretaker tried suggesting that F should wear different clothes in concern, but F never listened and said that he liked wearing black. He also hated being called "Finn", which made him mad. Despite this, he befriended Noah Navarro, a young man with a loving family who was bullied for being weak and cowardly, during his childhood days, but the bullying made him much worse. Even all his teeth were broken and became sharp teeth. F became cold, ruthless, sadistic and vengeful. In his teen years, F seeked revenge on his former tormentors and grew up as a criminal, involved in countless crimes, including serial murder, mutilation, torture, cannibalism, kidnapping, theft, armed robbery, assault, psychological abuse, terrorism and so on. His only friend, Noah tried to stop him and tell him to cease his life of crime to change for the better, but it was too late. F was arrested for all the horrible things he had done and was taken to jail. F was later sentenced to death via electric chair, making Noah both heartbroken and traumatized as he witnessed his best friend die. Unable to live without his best friend, Noah wrote a suicide note and took his life to see F in the afterlife by hanging himself at the noose. His parents found their son's hanging corpse in his room. F's reincarnation became a certain black capital letter of the same name while N became the reincarnation of Noah.
Next comes Grayson Garcia and Petunia Parker, a lovely couple who soon became G and P respectively. Grayson and Petunia had fallen in love with each other since childhood and they started dating in their teen years. As soon as they became adults, Grayson and Petunia were happily married. Soon, Petunia became pregnant and wanted to have a family with Greyson and Greyson agreed. Unfortunately, Petunia gave birth to a dead baby, a stillborn, much to her and Grayson's horror and grief. Soon, Petunia took her own life and shot herself in the head. Mortified and heartbroken, Grayson mourned over his wife's suicide and isolated himself in his home. One year later, Grayson died from a broken heart. As for their stillborn child, the baby soon became G and P's baby.
Hunter Hamilton, the previous incarnation of H, was obsessed with ghosts, the occult and the paranormal. He used to give ghost tours to tourists to earn money, considering that he was poor. Hunter always loved reading books on ghosts, occult and the paranormal. Soon, Hunter had given his last ghost tour in an abandoned facility when the tourists left him alone. Hunter tried to keep up until he ended up knocking into something that leaked a toxic gas called hydrogen cyanide, accidentally inhaling it. Hunter succumbed to hydrogen cyanide poisoning and gave up the ghost alone.
The next person was Irving Isaacson, a man with a youthful appearance and glasses. Irving was older than he looked, making him cute. The only thing that wasn't cute about him was his death, which was a horrible accident when he got crushed by a car crusher in a junkyard. Irving soon became I.
Jasper Jones was a supermodel with a pretty face. Jasper, unfortunately, was not lucky, just like the others. A fire happened and the poor man was burned alive. J became the reincarnation of Jasper.
Kairi Krueger, the previous incarnation of K, had a huge interest in bugs and insects. Ironically, this led to her untimely demise. While studying the bees, she accidentally knocked the beehive over, causing the bees to go mad and sting her to death.
Leon Lorenzo and Orville Olson, who soon became L and O respectively, were the next people on death's list. Leon and Orville were a pair of rich gentlemen who were not only snobs, but bullies as well. Leon was spoiled rotten by his mother as Orville's parents spoiled their son too. Leon and Orville were like two peas in a pod. Unfortunately, Orville perished from leukemia, which is blood cancer. What made it worse was that Orville was overweight. Leon, on the other hand, had by far the worst death of all the others. Just as Leon was about to attend Orville's funeral, one of Leon and Orville's victims came to him one day with a sharp knife and tackled him, stabbing Leon multiple times. Then, the victim slit Leon's throat, killing him. For Leon's demise, it was poetic justice.
The next lost soul was Michael Martinez, a man who was neglected by his parents and abused by his older siblings. As a child, Michael was bullied for being weak, so he went to therapy. He eventually went to the gym in his teens, hoping to be stronger and stand up for himself. He even took boxing classes, kickboxing classes and wrestling classes for self-defense. In his adulthood, Michael had not only stood up for himself, but others as well. Unfortunately, while Michael went to the convenience store, which was where he used to work, he came across a killer with a gun, killing the other employees. Just as Michael was about to intervene, the killer shot Michael three times in the chest, killing him. After death, Michael soon became M.
Quinton Quisenberry was the next victim and the previous incarnation of Q. Quinton was diagnosed with bradykinesia, slowness in movement. He was very slow, yet very wise. He would always try to warn people about the accidents, but he was not quick enough to get there on time. He was always late to work. Soon, Quinton's slowness would lead to his demise. While camping, he ended up walking into quicksand and couldn't get out. He sank into the quicksand and perished.
Robin Ridley, who soon became R, was a coward who suffered anxiety. Robin had a scar over one of his eyes since childhood after a cat scratched him. He had been afraid and stressed ever since. Eventually, Robin ended up falling into a tar pit and drowned in the tar.
The previous incarnation of S is Samuel Stuart, a reptile lover and a hippie when it comes to reptiles. His parents fight over his hippie lifestyle and his obsession over reptiles, causing a divorce. Even as an adult, Samuel lives with his mother, who still supports him. Samuel's most favorite reptile is a snake and he had gotten a pet snake for his birthday. Unfortunately, he was bitten by his own pet snake, causing him to succumb to the snake venom and whither away.
The next victim was Tony Travis, a muscular man and a skilled swimmer. Tony had braces since childhood. Despite this, he was well-respected for his skill and was a gold-medal winner in any swimming race he did before his death. While Tony was swimming at the beach, he didn't realize that the waters had sharks in them until it was too late. He was attacked and eaten by sharks, resulting in a grisly end for the poor man. Soon, T became the reincarnation of Tony.
Ulrich Underwood was another victim. He was unappreciated and ignored by his peers, making him feel invisible. Everytime he tries to do a good deed, no one seems to notice, much to dismay. His luck went from bad to worse. He put on winter gear, including a scarf, to go for a drive on a cold day. Unfortunately, his scarf got tangled in a fan, strangling him. Ulrich's neck snapped and he died of asphyxiation. Soon, Ulrich was reincarnated as U.
Next comes Vinnie Valentine, the incarnation of V. Vinnie was born mentally challenged. He lived as an outcast, being ridiculed for being a retard and a coward. Vinnie tries to be positive and happy. He eventually died from a heart attack after his cowardice got worse.
The Walker Sisters, Wilhelmina and Winifred, were a pair of dicephalic parapagus twins, siamese conjoined at birth. The twins were born and raised in a freak show and they were respected and given things that people believe would make the two happy, which explains why they were wearing Gothic lolita clothing. Unknown to the freak show or the rest of the world, Wilhelmina and Winifred were diagnosed with depression ever since they were kids. Soon, when the freak show closed, the Walker Sisters went to the hospital to get separation surgery. Unfortunately, there was a surgery gone wrong and the twins died from massive blood loss. Wilhelmina and Winifred eventually became W.
Xavier Xiao, who soon became X, was a man from an Asian family who owned a Chinese Restaurant. Xavier learned kung fu and graduated at a martial arts academy to pursue his dreams as a ninja. He was a black belt, which is the highest rank and won every tournament, yet he is very honorable and kind, even to his opponents. Unfortunately, Xavier had lost his final battle when a cannibal broke out of the insane asylum and broke into his home. Xavier tried to take down the cannibal, but the cannibal threw a knife into Xavier's head, killing him instantly. Then, the cannibal ate Xavier's flesh and organs.
Next on death's list was Yumi York, a kind woman who was a babysitter. The kids loved her and she loved them. But all that changed when she started taking care of a group of rowdy, spoiled children, all being siblings. Yumi hardly ate and couldn't sleep during this. Unable to control these kids, she was about to quit her job when she tripped over a ball left by one of the kids, causing her to fall out the window. She died from blunt force trauma, caused by a head injury and broken bones. Y became the reincarnation of poor Yumi York.
Primus Uno was the leader and don of the Mob, a criminal organization with Deuce Zwei, a mobster, as his second-in-command and right-hand man. Tertius Sanban was one of their most loyal mobsters and hitmen. Their criminal ways eventually led to not only their deaths, but the end of their gang. Primus and Deuce set the bomb to go off in an hour to blow up a police station. But thanks to Tertius' clumsiness, the bomb exploded, killing Primus, Deuce, Tertius and seven other mobsters by incinerating them. Their bodies were never found and their lair was destroyed in the process. Primus, Deuce, Tertius and the dead mobsters soon became 1, 2, 3 and the other numbers. The numbers didn't appear in Alphabet Lore, but that is a different story.
With every tragedy tied to the town, no one will ever forget the names of those victims, especially Zeke. In conclusion, the comatose Zeke would continue to watch over the lost souls in the form of the planet, Z, trapped forever in a world of his own mind, in a purgatory of his own making and a dream to which he'll never wake up from.

Hi from France! (bien le bonjour donc)
I would like to know your feelings / opinions about the ST. Are you okay with episodes 7, 8 & 9? Or you don't like them maybe?
Thanks for sharing.
Bonne journée 😊
Saluuuuut and sorry I'm only now getting back to you.
I think I might have talked about that a while back but I don't recall for sure. Basically, I'm only "okay" with them in the sense I fairly enjoyed watching TFA and TLJ - I don't consider them part of Star Wars tho. I like the characters well enough, Finn especially, (I'm not too fond of Poe, which I'm told is a crime around these parts xD), but there were already so many issues with the trilogy overall that I never watched TROS. I know the plot, etc, but I knew I'd never be able to get through it - tbh it made me despise the ST all by itself.
For one thing, I was never too fond of the trope that just recycles the conflicts of the last generation and wrecks the happily ever after we'd already gotten. Like "you thought the Empire was gone? ah! you dumb dumbs! that only happens in fairy tales, realistically the power vacuum would lead to the rise of new, equally authoritarian dictatorships!" Okay, cool, but I thought I was watching a fairy tale. That's what the end of ROTJ was about. So yeah, suffice to say that by ROTS I was absolutely seething wasn't thrilled that Palps wasn't gone. Also didn't like that Han and Leia broke up, also didn't like what they did to Luke, also didn't like the back and forth retcons between the three films, etc etc.
The real contender for my absolute hatred is the hype around Kyle Ron. I didn't dislike him as a villain (he was pretty okay in fact) but the dreamy dark bad boy turned Disney prince that people made him out to be, to the detriment of Finn especially, was a huge reason for my lack of interest. What they did with Finn was absolutely inexcusable imo.
I also like the clunky effects of the Prequels, so the more polished look isn't quite for me.
So yeah, bof. All in all, I'm not big on extended universes. I'm big on coherence, and on being able to take in the story in its entirety and study it, and pick it apart. When a story isn't plotted from beginning to end by a select few group with a singular vision, it's not a story, it's something else. It can be great, but it's not what I'm looking for. So when I talk about Star Wars, I think of Lucas' six movies and TCW. (Sometimes Rebels bc it's really close in spirit to TCW.) The rest (other shows, comics, etc) is in support of that, and if something isn't perfectly aligned with those then I don't bother to include it in my understanding of the story.
(For ex, I really enjoyed the Obi-Wan show but I don't consider it in line with the movies, so to me it's no more "what happened" than the ST or some decades old contradictory Legends content. It's all fan content of various degrees of quality.)
Thanks for the ask!

korechthonia ITPE2024 Dear Podficcer
Dear Podficcer,
I'm so glad you're maybe making me a thing! I'm really looking forward to seeing (hearing!) what you come up with! To help us both on this journey, here are a bunch of lists!
Here is a brief list of tropes I adore:
Soulmates (both played straight and subverted, of varieties romantic to cracktastic)
Background characters getting their day in the spotlight
Canon divergence AUs & fix-it fic (including time travel shenanigans)
Polyamory
Mutual pining
Identity porn
Enemies to lovers
Fake dating
Arranged marriages
World-building
Rarepairs
Politicing - laws and negotiations and diplomacy and all that jazz
Fusions - daemons, Pacific Rim, Temeraire, but also if i don't need to know too many details and the second universe is loved enough, I'm interested
Women being awesome and empowered to succeed in whatever their definition of succeed is
Here are things I very much Do Not Want:
Teacher/student or parent/child shipping, even in AUs where that isn't their relationship
Non-con (allusions to past occurrences excepted)
Reader-insert fic
Unhappy endings (bittersweet/ambiguously optimistic is okay, just not nothing but sad)
Highly explicit and/or lengthy sex scenes
Podfic preferences:
I appreciate and listen to all lengths, but definitely have a soft spot for the 1-2.5 hour range (for chores listening!)
Massive weakness for epistolary & non-traditional formats
Very happy for sound effects and/or music, except for general ambient sound effects under long stretches of reading, but also very fine to not have any!
Repods of things I've done are totally okay!
I have blanket permission to podfic, but there's definitely some of my older fic that I've written that I am not strictly proud of - feel free to podfic any of it! But not all of it would make a good gift for me.
Peruse my bookmarks and works created for an idea of what is making me happy/intrigued right now and over time, and feel free to take up any of them if they inspire you! (But things in the "podfic me maybe" collection may have ended up there for specific challenge reasons, it's not a perfect system)
Here are details about my biggest/always happy to return to fandoms that you should know:
Star Wars
The prequels are my general focus. Massive multi-shipper of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but particularly with Jango Fett, Cody, Fox, Jaster Mereel, and Jango/Obi-Wan/[a third] (eg. Jango/Obi-Wan/Satine, Jango/Obi-Wan/Myles etc).
I love the clones! I was about to start listing favourites and then was pretty sure I was just going to list every clone I could think of. Neutral-to-positive on cloneshipping.
Adore rarepairs with Jedi and clones or Jedi and Mandalorians
Rogue One-wise, Jyn/Cassian always and forever, everyone lives AUs preferred
Mandalorian-era, I like Boba/Din, Boba & Fennec & their Tatooine crime family thing, Din & Grogu family vibes, but not Din/Paz or Din/Omera or Armorer/Bo-Katan
Sequel-wise, Rey/Finn/Poe, Rey/Poe, and Rey/Jessica Pava are the preferred ships.
Mandalorian culture, jedi culture, Tatooine slave culture, any other space culture, I will be intrigued and delighted to hear. EXCEPT the First Order or the Empire - they are space!Nazis.
Absolutely NO master/apprentice ships or Kylo Ren related ships.
Tortall
Protector of the Small era is my preferred point in the timeline!
Keladry/Dom is in fact my OTP, but aroace Kel is also good.
Incidental Daine/Numair and Aly/Nawat is fine because they're canon, but not the focus. Any of those characters individually is great.
Never really got into the Bekah series
Les Miserables
Enjolras/Grantaire or Les Amis de l'ABC-centric (excluding Jehan/Montparnasse)
Canon era or AUs that are not high school or college AUs - either different historical eras, or with added magic or specific workplaces or *something*
Greek Mythology
It is all about the ladies, honestly. Particularly like Persephone stories!
A Song of Ice and Fire
Sansa/literally anyone where she gets to realise her own power and escape from being traumatized all the time is a MUST (Jon, Tyrion, Jaime, Oberyn, Willas, and Margaery have all been hits in the past but that is not an exclusive list).
Not a fan of Dany, but dislike genocidal maniac versions of her even more.
Don't particularly care for the Bran storyline or the Iron Islands ones.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (and the Heroes of Olympus)
Annabeth Chase, my beloved
Their later teenage years (Heroes of Olympus era) are more interesting to me than their first few years
Still haven't read the Trials of Apollo, so nothing based in that era
Pride and Prejudice
Elizabeth/Mr. Darcy or Elizabeth/Colonel Fitzwilliam are both acceptable!
Be nice to Mrs. Bennett, she's not wrong to be stressed
Goncharov
It is about Katya/Sofia and the vibes, not any relation to anything people have tried to reverse-engineer about what the plot is.
Star Trek: AOS
Jim/Bones, whole crew fic, anything with Joanna McCoy
Check Please!
Parse/Bitty/Jack is OT3, but I'm interested in any Kent ship except Jack/Kent exclusively, and as long as there's no Kent bashing I'm interested in Jack/Bitty as well
Crossover with hockey RPF is a-okay!
Hockey RPF
the Canucks are my team
Quinn Hughes/Matthew Tkachuk, Elias Pettersson/Brock Boeser, Matthew Tkachuk/Leon Draisaitl, Ovi/Nicke are some favourite ships
will not read/record anything with any players involved in assault (alleged or otherwise) or who have been vocally racist/homophobic/etc
not interested in featuring Boston or Chicago, or players born after 2000

LaDonna Humphrey - Unmasking The Brutal Killer of Melissa Ann Witt
Unraveling the mystery of Melissa Witt’s murder piece by piece, Connected By Fate lays out the relentless pursuit of justice amidst a storm of threats and unforeseen obstacles. In December 1994, 19-year-old Melissa Witt stood on the cusp of adulthood. Her life was brimming with dreams and aspirations. Her future in Fort Smith, Arkansas was bright and full of hope. Yet this beautiful young woman would not see Christmas that year or any other year. Her life met a terrifying end at the hands of someone she likely knew.
“Like a predator carefully stalking his prey, he watched and waited. His eyes intensely focused on her every move ….. His sharp eyes are locked on the target. He is ready to strike. And then, it happens. The hunter makes his move.” – LaDonna Humphrey
Unexpected challenges and unsettling threats would not deter this group of remarkable individuals. LaDonna Humphrey, former Captain of the Fort Smith Major Crimes Unit Jay C. Rider, and former Fort Smith Detective Chris Boyd are driven by a fervent desire to secure the justice that has been denied to an innocent young woman and her family.

The Girl I Never Knew: Who Killed Melissa Witt? is a work of non-fiction in the true crime and thriller subgenres by LaDonna Humphrey. As the title suggests, the work focuses on the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of Melissa Witt, and the answers to her untimely death seem to lie within the Ozark National Forest, Arkansas. Humphrey’s vested interest in unmasking Melissa’s killer is impressive for her sheer determination and attention to detail, but also remarkable considering that she never actually met the victim in person. So begins a real-life thriller of cracking the case and the strange twists in life that following Witt’s killer have given the author. I am an avid fan of true crime and trying to unpick and understand why vicious people do vicious things, so I was sucked into the exciting premise offered by LaDonna Humphrey from the start. That is not to say this is a gory tale, because Humphrey is enormously respectful of the tragic fate that befell Melissa Witt, and the circumstances of her death are never glamourized or used to gratuitous effect. Moreover, it is the dogged tenacity and powerful sense of justice that Humphrey possesses that rockets this work of non-fiction into action and will certainly keep readers flipping pages to see what clue is uncovered next and how these experiences have shaped the author as a person. The Girl I Never Knew is a superb work of true crime narration that no fan should be without.

Aamulehti writes that over the past few years, many victims of online scams have lost their life savings to cybercriminals.
The paper relates a case reported by police last week in which a 68-year-old man in Savo received an email purportedly from his bank, relating to a matter requiring a signature. Clicking a link and providing his account number resulted in 400,000 euros of his portfolio being sold off and the funds transferred to foreign accounts.
The authorities are now tackling this growing problem. A police unit dedicated to online fraud has been set up in Tampere that will start investigating online crime nationwide.
While Aamulehti sees this as an important step forward, it also says that more needs to be done. This requires close cooperation no only within the European Union and Interpol, but also the entire financial sector.
The paper comments that the fight against online crime cannot be left to the police alone. Banks should also be obliged to further develop their online security systems. Of course, the main responsibility remains with individuals themselves. The authorities and the media have repeatedly warned that people should never give out their online banking details to third parties.
Aamulehti notes this is easier said than done, though. As banking, airline and hotel bookings, for example, have largely gone online, bank codes and credit card details are needed more than ever before. This is why, it writes, confidence in the security of online transactions must be restored and every possible means to do so must be used.
Little public responsibility
Iltalehti turns its attention to the major breach of databases belonging to educational and training departments of City of Helsinki reported earlier this week.
The paper points out that if this had happened in the private sector, the City of Helsinki would have been liable for a fine of up to 20 million euros for failing to keep this data secure. Under the current rules, penalties do not apply to public sector operators. However, the current government programme includes a provision to extend these penalties to the public sector at a later date.
The Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman will investigate whether the city has taken proper care of data protection requirements and whether its safeguards have been adequate. The city has been asked to report on the breach by 5 June.
Although financial sanctions are not imposed on public sector operators, they may be issued a warning and orders to implement improved security measures.
Reporting illegal border crossings
According to the newspaper Karjalainen, the Finnish Border Guard has been distributing leaflets to people living and travelling near the border in North Karelia, providing instructions on what to do if they spot a possible illegal border crossing.
Samuli Murtonen, Deputy Commander of the North Karelia Border Guard was unable to tell the paper exactly how many leaflets had been distributed so far, but did say that a decision was made to produce them following requests from the public.
Murtonen says that the simplest advice to anyone who has witnessed an illegal border crossing is to report it immediately to the authorities, who will take necessary follow-up action. People are further advised to pay attention to the location of the possible crossing, where the individuals are headed, their clothing and the registration number of any vehicle involved.
So far this year the situation on Finland's eastern border has been stable.
According to Murtonen, there is no cause for particular concern even with the melting of snow and drier conditions, adding that life near the border can continue without any particular concerns.
Strike law to take effect
According to Minister of Employment Arto Satonen (NCP), Finland's new, controversial strike laws could come into force as early as next Saturday.
In an interview with the economic and business daily Kauppalehti, Satonen said that the implementation of the labour legislation revisions are expected to be finalised on Friday.
The government's original plan was for the stricter rules governing strikes to take effect at the beginning of July.
According to Satonen, there will likely be a delay in the entry into force of changes to unemployment insurance regulations, for example, so that beneficiaries have more time to prepare for the changes.
Sweet, sweet summer
A new record high temperature for the year was set on Tuesday, reports Ilta-Sanomat, and more warm weather is on the way.
Tuesday's high of 25.1 degrees Celsius was recorded at Kauhava Airport in Southern Ostrobothnia.
At least seven localities registered temperatures over 24C on Tuesday.
This latest record is likely to be broken several more times over the coming days. The Foreca weather service forecasts that Wednesday may also see temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius in southern parts of the country and possibly all the way up to southern Lapland.

How to Elude a Vampire - Alice Winters (VRC: Vampire Related Crimes, book 2)
Synopsis
Finn When the vampire stalking me sent me a letter, I was prepared for my new life with the man I love to get thrown into chaos. But as the days stretch on and nothing happens, I become determined not to allow that monster to rule my life, and decide that Marcus and I will move on. We can’t always allow the past to haunt us. If that includes pestering Marcus and harassing my fellow detectives, they’d better learn to love it, because I’m not going anywhere even if they like to remind me I’m the only human working in a department filled with vampires. But Marcus loves me for who I am, even if he’s not crazy about the cute pet names I call him like McBitey. Being with him is more than I could have dreamed, and even with the trials thrown in our way, he never fails to make me smile.
Marcus When Finn joined the VRC, I never expected how everything would change. Now that he’s the brightest part of my days, I’m unsure of how I existed without him. Before Finn and I can settle into our new life together, we’re called in as lead detectives when a body is found in the river, and the case soon hits closer to home than we anticipated. I want to be by Finn’s side to keep him safe, but at the same time, Finn’s fighting for the freedom he’s always wanted after being forced to live a life of fear. What I do know is that my future is with Finn, no matter what happens.
How to Elude a Vampire is the second in the VRC series and contains a display of manly prowess that doesn’t go as desired, reluctant bonding with a new pet, interfering with a snarky Russian’s love life, misuse of office supplies, a vampire with a killer fashion sense but very little game, a total lack of ancient kung fu powers, a feisty human who almost always gets his way and the possessive vampire who adores him.
My Thoughts
Part 2 of this 5 part series had me on the edge of my seat. I knew that Finn’s story wasn’t over, not until he dealt with his trauma, and the vampire who terrified him for a good portion of his life. I just didn’t expect the twisted turns this book took.
Months after the events of the first book, Finn and Marcus are well-established in their professional and personal partnership. It was really lovely to watch them continue to bicker and banter. But as they’ve grown as a couple, they’ve learned which lines not to cross. And I love seeing those kinds of boundaries being respected.
I also love seeing them continue to trust each other, and open more lines of communication with each other. Especially with the appearance of Marcus’ brother, Claude, who is definitely going to be featured at some point. He’s too big a personality not to be featured somewhere in this series.
While this series has its very dark, very intense moments, I love learning about this world, and the history of vampires. I love watching the VRC team continue to grow closer to each other, and trust each other.
I also love how much more animated Karsyn was in this book! I fell in love with him a little bit in the last book, and those feelings kept growing in this book. Karsyn has some skeletons in his closet – some demons to vanquish – and I am really looking forward to his story.
I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy this series as much as I am. But then again, I’m team morally grey area all the way, and this series exemplifies that in all of my favourite ways.

“DRACULA” by bram stoker
finished: march 2, 2023
DRACULAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the best and only way to pronounce the title of this book is ALL CAPS AND WITH MUCH ENTHUSIASM. oh my GOD did i love this book. so much to unpack here, WHEW. let’s start with how it suddenly popped into my queue...
on a weekend away with family, my husband and i stumbled into a bookstore in this quaint sleepy town. what kind of books would this place even have? we wondered around and soon discovered many of the books there were classics. great expectations, oliver twist, a tale of two cities, crime and punishment, vanity fair, the odyssey, twenty thousand leagues under the sea, frankenstein, gulliver’s travels, the jungle books, war and peace, the adventures of huckleberry finn... such a stunning group of classics. i have personally only read crime and punishment, i think my husband has read several of these. alas, we were both milling about the store looking at all its trinkets, but we both kept coming back to this display, mesmerized by the covers which all had a matching aesthetic. it’s funny, being in such a small town as this, where these are probably the most popular, timeless, common books in america, yet these are the ones for sale at the bookstore. there were more, sure, but the classics were screaming at us. also if aliens came down and first went to this town and bookstore, they would be set on books for a while.
my husband chose dracula and i chose the jungle books. he started reading dracula right away and got 3/4 of the way through the book in one weekend, i didn’t start the jungle books until a week or so after that. my husband became ecstatic with dracula and would share how well written it was. we both like vampire lore, to me it’s always just been a character(s) we are told about and there’s no one pinpoint of where it came from or what started it; vampirism is so ingrained in our culture, even people who aren’t into it at all know all the tropes. i had known of dracula just by word of mouth, but i  honestly didn’t even realize until this weekend that dracula was, commercially speaking, the first vampire novel. this is the one that started it all, and GEE GOLLY WHIZ is it a great start. so needless to say, i had to read it, too.
this is exactly the kind of book i’m questing to discover; something i’ve always heard of or known about, but never took the time or had any particular interest in taking the time to actually delve into the actual story. by this point, i’ve heard so much about dracula, i might as well read the actual book and get on with it. this book is timeless, it takes you to another time and place but the language is easy to follow and the writing pulls you in. you feel immediately invested in the characters.
my favorite part, actually, was the beginning when harker is trapped in dracula’s castle. we have no idea what’s going on, how long this will last, but i’m pretty sure harker’s not getting out of here alive. i love how dracula is always a few steps ahead of us, he’s swift enough in the novel just like he would be IRL, escaping from your field of vision just as you believe you’ve been able to focus in on him. despite the narration being shared, we never actually hear from dracula and we never get dracula’s input on anything. the most dialogue we get from him is in the beginning when he’s luring harker in to his realm and castle. then it’s no more mister nice guy, but he still plays it off well enough to get harker to stay.
as far as narration goes, this is probably my favorite format. i love hearing from multiple characters, even if their sides don’t mesh, sometimes especially when they don’t make sense together. this novel also includes newspaper articles that helps keep us informed on the community’s impact of the goings on. the pace is so fast but the letters and articles never feel rushed. even when a character is reporting on an action scene, they have been able to collect their thoughts to properly regurgitate all the pertinent information we need.
van helsing. wow. in my audiobook he was voiced by tim curry which just automatically means i’m gonna adore him, but van helsing as a character was someone i had always heard of in like a metalhead, motorcycle gang kind of way??? but i never knew the context or had any idea he had anything to do with dracula. now i totally get it. doctor van helsing is a total badass and usually the  only one who has any idea of what to do or how to try getting ahead of dracula. he comes up with the plans but also executes. he is the guy. i get it now.
i would read this book again in a heartbeat. the themes and characters will stick with me for some time. i will miss hearing from jonathan, mina, dr. seward, lucy, and the gang. i also appreciated the short but sweet epilogue. this book was just absolutely perfect and thrilling and a great story for anyone, i would think.
rating: 10/10 this deeply resonated with me, i will re-read it again numerous times and recommend it to anyone i know, the story and characters will stick with me forever; crave discussing it all the time and bring it up unprovoked

writeblr intro!! finally!!
hello lovely people of the tumblr writing community <3 i'm marina (she/her) and i've had this blog for about a month now but so far Life and all its Obligations prevented me from making a proper intro post - here it finally is now, for everyone who'd like to get to know me and my projects a bit!
me as a person
i'm marina but you can also call me any nick name version of that and also any and all terms of endearment (can you tell i'm a libra). i'm 27, from austria, and speak german and english (pretty well), french (badly) and know how to order bread in korean (essential skill)
my interests include: philosophy, linguistics, horses, music, musicals, the city of paris, and also formula 1. yes i know this is random what can i say
i'm a full-time student and part-time capitalism worker-bee so depending on my schedule i might disappear for a bit, but i intend to always come back here to get inspired and get some work done! which leads me to...
me as a writer
i love coming up with new ideas and projects!! getting started is so much fun!! finishing things on the other hand!! is so hard!! send help!!
my fave genres (to read and to write): fantasy, sci-fi, works and words inspired by folklore and mythology - but really i like anything with compelling characters!
random things i love in writing: vampires (one day i'll write the Great Big Austrian Vampire Novella. alas, not today), characters that haunt the narrative, guilt and grief and healing from both, characters that make all the wrong choices, couples that have fun with each other, cryptic prophecies, sibling relationships, symbolic flowers
PLEASE COME TALK TO ME ABOUT WRITING!! i would really like to become part of a community here, so always feel free to come talk to me about your wips, my wips, the blorbo that lives in your head rent-free, the latest book you've read and loved... whatever you want to share i'd love to hear <3 you can also always tag me in games and challenges, but it might take me a bit to get to it, depending on how much real life hates me atm
my children: works in (never-ending) progress
i'm gonna make proper intro posts for all these projects soon, but to give you some idea of what i get up to, here are some short descriptions! some of these wips have been with me for a couple years, others are more recent, but they all haunt my every waking moment <;3
The Price of Wishing (first draft complete): good old sci-fi dystopian flair; a society that got rid of poverty by creating so called Houses of Service - institutions that will sell out their workers to the highest bidder for anything that people are willing to pay for. but it's not quite as simple as that: politics, organised crime, and a revenge plot years in the making all intersect at Isra's House of Service, and its inhabitants must learn to navigate these worlds - or they'll go down trying.
Forget Me (Not) (first draft about half-way done): wouldn't it be great to purge some of the mistakes we made from memory, not just our own but that of everyone? in a world in which the Chip implanted in everyone's neck records everything seen and experienced, this - collective forgetting - is the price celebrity contestants get to compete for in a reality tv show. each contestant has something they need the world to forget, but who can convince the viewers the most? the central theme of this story is grief, and when to hold on, and when to let go.
Attempts at Life (still in the outline stage): finn day and her brother felix know how their lives will play out: they were born in the lowest class society has to offer, and there they will stay. which is an unusual position for people like them to be in: both their souls were reborn for the fifth (and last) time; for them to have been assigned to this shitty life, they must have done something heinous in their previous one. finn is resigned to accept this punishment for a crime she can't even remember, but that's before the government offers her a position - she finds out things that change her view of society and herself forever, and she'll have to decide which one to save.
Untitled Fantasy (literally only thought of this last week): something something a necromancer brings back the hero of the ancient world to stop Something Bad from happening. only problem is - the hero does not remember ever being a hero. or anything at all, really. the rest of the world remembers, though. i'd love for this story to include some traditional austrian folklore elements! those are fun
so that's it! last but not least: if you've read this far, thank you so much omg you're my personal hero. i'm following a bunch of people already since i've been lurking for a couple weeks, but i'm always looking for new writers to get to know and support so pls interact with this post or shoot me a message and i'll check you out and follow you! and if you have any questions, or answers, or just wanna talk i'm very excited to get to know you all <3

You were the ultimate daddy’s girl. From the moment you were born you and your father were inseparable. The only thing that tore you apart was the war. You were barely two years old when he went off to serve his country.
When he left he entrusted Polly to look after you. Of course she treated you as if you were her own. She protected you as fiercely as she protected your father, uncles and aunt. Especially when your Aunt Kitty, Kitty Jurossi, showed up demanding that you were to go with her.
Kitty is your mother’s sister. She never approved of Greta being with Tommy. While Tommy taking care of Greta in her final days and loving her as he did was honorable, Kitty knew what kind of man he is. She knew what kind of family he had, what kind of business he partook in. She didn’t want you around them.
Polly always thought it was amusing how Kitty waited until Tommy was out of country to try and collect you. Kitty wrongfully assumed that Polly would just hand you over. Your mother’s sister was lucky she was able to return to her home with her life, especially when she tried to forcefully take you.
You remembered that day very vaguely. You don’t remember what happened but you remembered the yelling, someone grabbing you painfully and how scared you were. Your father had just left you for the longest time in your life and now this woman was trying to take you from the person you considered your mother.
The years without your father were long and unmemorable. When he finally returned home you were five going on six. You waited on the train platform with Polly, Ada and Finn. Polly kept a tight hold on you as the soldiers came off the train and went to their families.
You tried to find him but you were far too short and all of them were wearing the same uniform and cap. You jumped in your spot just itching to run into his arms. It didn’t matter that you didn’t really remember specific details of him. You remembered the feeling you had with him. You remembered being safe and happy with him. You remembered being sad and lonely without him. You’d rather be safe and happy than the other part.
“There they are!” Ada shouts. Your head darts to where she was pointing. When you spotted him not even Polly was able to hold you back.
You remember him shoving his way through the others to get to you. When you were close he dropped to his knees and pulled you into his arms. You clung to him.
Then, just like before he left, the two of you were inseparable once again. The only time you weren’t together was when you were sleeping (although on rough nights you often found your way in his bed) or when he had dangerous Peaky business.
You were the Shelby princess. You were untouchable. You didn’t figure out how much you could get away with until you were older. You could murder his best friend - not that you ever killed anyone - and the longest he’d stay mad at you would be a few hours, a day at most.
Anything you wanted was yours. You were spoiled but you were also kind and generous. You had bratty streaks but who didn’t? You may have been the light of your father’s life but you were John’s partner in crime. Whenever his own kids got too much or he wanted to pick on his brother’s you were the one he came too.
As much as he did truly enjoy spending time with you, John also knew that with you by his side he wouldn’t get into as much trouble as he would without you. All you had to do was give your pretty little smile and bat those eyelashes and Tommy was wrapped around your finger.
Even when your siblings came into the world you were number one. You didn’t exactly like Charlie, not Grace, at first. They stole your father’s attention, something you weren’t used to sharing. Eventually you warmed up to them.
You were sad when Grace died but not nearly to the extreme as your father. His heart break broke your own heart. You felt as if nothing you did eased his pain. In reality, you were the one person keeping him from completely spiraling. He spiraled but just being with you managed to slowly bring him back.
You were a little more welcoming toward Lizzie and then Ruby. By the time Ruby came around you adored Charlie. Ruby quickly wiggled her way into your heart. You became fiercely protective of them. You helped Lizzie with them when Tommy got too busy. When you needed a break you joined your father to the office and he would continue explaining what he did.
To you, life was perfect. You had everything you needed and everything you wanted. Tommy kept you in the business just enough to satisfy you but not enough to put you directly in danger. You didn’t understand a lot of the politics and drama within the family but to you it didn’t matter. You had your family, you had your fun, and life was great.
Then, as you were creeping up on your mid-twenties, you met the man you wanted to spend the rest of your life with. You were in the market with Lizzie, Polly, and Ruby. You had wandered a bit from the others. There was some jewelry you were looking at when he came over.
He was tall, muscular, and extremely handsome. He had a boyish smile and a flirtatious personality. It didn’t take you long to also figure out that he was clumsy and adorable. You were instantly hooked.
You two talked (flirted) for longer than you thought. Before you knew it Polly, Lizzie and Ruby were rejoining you. Polly was weary of him but it was obvious that he quickly won Lizzie over.
Much to your displeasure, once the three of them showed up you were quickly whisked away from him. Polly had said it was time to go and not many people were brave enough to argue with her.
Even on the way home you thought about him. You hoped that you would see him again but you figured it was unlikely.
Word got around about you meeting Mr. Handsome at the market. Your uncles teased you and Ada interrogated you. Your father was oddly quiet on the other hand. He didn’t want to talk about it, so he didn’t. He just hoped that your paths wouldn’t cross again.
Tommy knew you were getting older but that didn’t mean he liked it. He wanted you to stay his little girl for a while longer. He wished you were still small enough to ride on his shoulders and small enough for him to engulf you in his arms. But you were growing into a beautiful young lady. Whether he liked it or not other men were bound to recognize your beauty and seek you out. He had been lucky, for the most part, about your disinterest in dating, but it wasn’t going to last.
Most of the women your age were already married with at least one child. You were content by yourself. You were gaining responsibilities with the business and being your father’s personal helper. Even though you were content you wanted more. You wanted your own family to come home to with your own kids.
Fortunately, for Tommy, you wouldn’t see the boy from the market for quite some time. It had been so long you had forgotten about him. Until suddenly he showed back up.
The Shelby’s were having a night at the fights. You were enjoying yourself. You didn’t get dolled up often but when you did you went all out. You felt beautiful thus making you feel confident. On top of that, everyone knew exactly who you were which meant heads turned in your direction everywhere you went. You felt important, untouchable.
You sat with your aunt Ada, Aunt Polly, and step mother Lizzie. The three of you were talking amongst yourselves while the boys hollered at the match in front of them. When the fighters changed out you happened to look up and there he was.
Ada had been talking to you but you suddenly stopped listening. He was bigger, more muscular, than you remember. He didn’t seem as clumsy anymore yet he was just as handsome.
“Y/n,” Ada shouts over the crowd.
“Oh, will you look at that,” Lizzie states looking at who you were staring at.
“Who’s he?” Ada questions. Lizzie reminds her about the guy from the market you had met over a year prior. You continued to ignore them.
Right before the match started his eyes connected with yours. He obviously recognized you. He sent you the same boyish smile he had in the market causing a light blush to come to your cheeks. He bravely sent you a wink before focusing on the fight.
Your eyes remained glued on him with Tommy’s eyes started at you. He had noticed the interaction and didn’t like it in the slightest.
When the match ended, with his unfortunate loss, you excused yourself to the loo. You weren’t fooling anybody. Everyone who paid attention knew where you were going and Tommy had half a mind to stop you when something grabbed his attention. The split second his attention was off of you gave you the time you needed to disappear into the crowd.
“H/n,” You say, standing in the doorway of the locker room. You were slightly nervous - a lot nervous - but you weren’t 100% sober so that helped. His head snapped up at the sound of your voice.
“Y/n,” He says, turning away from his locker and toward you. “Shelby,” He adds. You hadn’t told him who you were. It was obvious he hadn’t known back then and you wanted to keep it that way.
“In the flesh,” You gave him a twirl. “You fought well tonight,”
“I lost,” He deadpanned but didn’t look all that bothered by it..
“Caught me attention,” You told him.
“Guess it wasn’t a complete loss then, aye?” He smirks. “How about you make me a winner tonight and agree to a date?” You blushed.
“I can do that,” You agreed.
From there your relationship blossomed. The two of you fell for each other quickly. He started showing up around the family more. Your uncles hazed him, Ada and Polly constantly interrogated him, and your father silently judged him. No matter how hard you or H/n tried, your father never came around.
H/n didn’t care about Tommy’s disapproval of him. He loved you with all his heart and nobody was going to keep you from him. He may be funny, charismatic and handsome but he knew he was selfish with a side of possessive. In his mind, you were his and he wasn’t letting you go. He would do anything to keep you and to keep you happy.
It honestly was no surprise that less than a year later the two of you were engaged. He had taken you out on a picnic under the stars on a beach. You had dinner, went swimming and had a fire in the sand. While stargazing he proposed with a beautiful ring. You didn’t hesitate to say yes.
The next day, as you two were makin breakfast, you asked how your father handled him asking for permission when H/n told you he never asked. It shocked you that H/n didn’t talk to Tommy first. You knew when it came to your father H/n was a little rebellious but this was different. Honestly, you were a bit upset he didn’t speak with Tommy first.
It hadn’t even been twenty four hours since your engagement and the two of you were thrown into a fight. A minor one but a fight nonetheless. He didn’t see why it mattered seeing as the two of you were getting married with or without his permission. You argued that it wasn’t his permission you were looking for but your blessing. H/n didn’t understand just how close you and Tommy are but you wished he would at least respect it.
Eventually, he apologized when he finally noticed just how important Tommy’s approval meant to you. You promised H/n that you would marry him no matter what but keeping it from your father was not an option. H/n promised to talk to him.
A few days passed and then a week. H/n still didn’t talk to Tommy. You were fed up and decided to do it yourself. When you arrived at the Arrow House all you found were Lizzie and Ruby.
Ruby instantly spotted the ring. You desperately wanted to talk to Tommy first but since you weren’t getting passed you sister not Lizzie you conceded.
“So, when did he pop the question?” Ruby asked.
“About two weeks ago,” You answered, a large smile on your face. “He asked me on the beach under the stars,” Ruby swooned but Lizzie didn’t seem to be paying attention anymore. You looked at her. You tensed noticing her looking behind you. Slowly, you turned around and saw your father standing there.
His eyes stare into your eyes and for the first time in your life you can’t figure out what he was thinking. He seemed emotionless but you couldn’t tell if the look in his eyes was anger or disappointment. His eyes glanced down at your hand, at your ring.
“Dad, I-” You didn’t get a chance to explain. He turned around and walked out of the house. You were shocked. He never did that to you. He always let you speak no matter what he was feeling. When you snapped out of it you quickly went after him but he was already in the car driving down the road. “Dad! Wait, please!” But he just keeps driving.
“He’ll come around,” Ruby tries to comfort but her words just go in one ear and right out the other.
For weeks your father avoided you like the plague. You walked into a room, he walked out. You tried to talk, he talked over you. You tried to get his attention, he ignored you. You tried for over a month before deciding to give him some space and focus on planning your wedding.
With the help of Ada, Ruby, Polly, and Esme you planned the wedding. Every day you got a step closer to the date. Every day you got more excited. Yet one thing continued to dampen your mood.
“Y/n, come in,” Esme greets, stepping aside to let you into her home.
“Is John here? I want to talk to him,” You say, fiddling with your fingers nervously. Esme smiles kindly and nods.
“Why don’t you have a seat and I’ll fetch him,” She suggests before disappearing into the house. You walk into the parlor. You smile and play with your cousins for a bit before John finally joins you.
“I wanted to ask you something,” You say after he shoos the kids away. He gives you his attention. You take in a deep breath as tears mist over your eyes. He looks more concerned by the second. “I was wondering if you... would walk me down the aisle,” John frowns his eyebrows.
“You want me?” He asks, shocked. “What about Tom-”
“He hasn’t spoken to me for months,” You snap, struggling to keep your tears from falling. “He can hardly look at me or stand to be in the same room. I think it’s safe to say he’s not coming,” You try to sound angry but curse silently when your voice grows more shaky. John sighs.
“Come here, sweetheart,” He opens his arms and you quickly close the distance between the two of you. He holds you tightly as you cry in his chest. “Tommy’s being a right arse at the moment, everyone knows that,” He mutters. “But nothing in the world is going to stop him from walking you down that aisle,”
“H/n being at the end of it might,” You mutter. John laughs quietly.
“Love, if Tommy really hated H/n, he would be dead by now,” John says truthfully. You see the logic in his statement but it hardly lifts your spirits.
“The wedding is in two weeks,” You whisper. “He hasn’t budged yet,”
“I want you to do something for me,” John says, pulling back just enough to look at your face and wipe your tears. “I want you to think through your entire life and tell me a time where you didn’t get your way with Tommy,” John challenges. “I’m not even going to wait because it never bloody happened,” You smile a bit. “Now, this has been the longest you’ve had to wait for him to come around but trust me, he is incapable of not doing what you want,”
“Will you still be on standby?” You ask him. He smirks and kisses your forehead.
“Of course,” He whispers. “Bloody hell, has anyone said no to you before?” He asks, smirking as he steps away from you.
“What can I say? I’m everyone’s sweetheart,” You smile. John rolls his eyes and offers for you to stay for dinner, which you accept.
When you returned home you noticed H/n was home as well. You had moved out of Arrow house before the engagement, something your father strongly disagreed with.
When you walked inside, H/n was waiting up for you. You hadn’t meant to be home so late. It’s just when you’re with John and his kids they just make the time fly by. Luckily, H/n didn’t seem upset just tired.
“Come here,” He mutters, opening his arms. You smile and settle in his lap enjoying the feeling of his thick arms wrapped around your body. “Were you at Arrow House?” He asks.
“No, I went to see Uncle John,” You tell him. He hums curiously. “I wanted to ask if he’d walk me down the aisle,” You whisper. H/n holds you tighter.
“I’m sorry, Y/n,” He whispers to you. “I shouldn’t have proposed without asking for his blessing or at least mentioning it to him,”
“No, you shouldn’t have,” You grumbled before sighing. “But this is much more than that. Something else is bothering him,”
“You’re his precious girl, he’ll talk eventually,” He reassures you. You don’t respond, you simply cuddle deeper into his embrace.
A week passed. You had five days until your wedding. You woke up excited as you daydreamed about the day. However, your happiness didn’t last.
BRITIAN     AT    WAR    WITH    GERMANY
Your father and uncles had fought in the first war. The supposed ‘war to end all wars’. Now, only a short few years later there was another war. A war the next generation would fight. A war your H/n volunteered to join.
You were in the kitchen cleaning up. You were doing everything you could to keep buys. Britain was officially at war and you were terrified. You knew everything was going to change. Deep down you knew it would happen but it didn’t register until he was right in front of you.
“When do you leave?” You whisper, desperately trying to stay together as you look at H/n. He was in his uniform with papers in his hand.
“Thursday,” H/n hesitantly whispers. You close your eyes and hang your head. Not only was your soon-to-be husband going off to fight this war but he was leaving before your wedding. On top of that, you only had two more days with him.
“Why do you have to leave?” You whimpered. He doesn’t answer. He just closes the gap between the two of you and pulls you into a tight hug. He hugged you as if he could single handedly keep you from falling apart.
“I will come back to you, Y/n Shelby,” He states firmly. “Heaven nor hell will keep me from you, you have me word,”
“I love you,” You whisper, clinging to him. He pulls back just enough to tilt your head up to his lips. He doesn’t verbally respond but he tries to pour all his love and determination to return to you in the breathtaking kiss.
You cling to him for as long as you can but eventually have to let him go. While he didn’t leave until Thursday he had much to get done before then. He promised he would be back in a few hours but you didn’t want to be alone.
The first thing you did was go to Polly. You froze when you saw her drying her cheeks. Finn had volunteered as well. Together you both cried.
Finn might have technically been your uncle but he was more of a brother. There was only a few years difference between the two of you. Polly had raised you both. You hated that you could possibly not only lose H/n but Finn as well.
Luckily Charlie was still too young to join but only for another year. You had no doubt that he would join up the first chance he got. He’s Tommy’s son. Neither of them were good at backing down.
When you left Polly you went to Arrow House. You were done. You were done with your father’s stubbornness. You were done with his silence and his judgmental stares. He could be mad about the wedding all he wanted but you needed him to come back to you.
“Did H/n..?” Lizzie’s voice dissipates. She didn’t want to finish the question and she didn’t have too. You just nod and accept her comforting hug. You’ve cried the majority of the day and knew you weren’t done yet. You knew the second you went face to face with Tommy you’d fall apart all over again.
“Where is he?” You ask.
“In his office,” Lizzie says knowing exactly who you were wanting. “Most likely on his second bottle by now,” You sighed, rubbing your face tiredly. “I’ll make some tea,” You send her a smile and a nod.
You don’t even bother to knock, you rarely did. There wasn’t a room you knew about that you weren’t welcome into. Inside you found your father slouched in his chair with a full glass in his hands. He doesn’t bother to look at you. You don’t even know if he registers your presence.
“I don’t know what you’re so mad at me about,” You began. Your voice sounded strong and you hoped it stayed that way. “Yes, H/n asked me to marry him. No, I didn’t know at the time that he didn’t talk to you but get over it. You haven’t made his time in this family easy, no wonder he doesn’t want to talk to you.
“When you found out you found out too soon. I was there to talk to you about it but Ruby and Lizzie saw me first. This wasn’t something I wanted to keep from you, I never meant to hurt you. I’m sorry,” You whisper. Hope fills you a bit when he glances at you in the corner of his eye. “I know something else is bothering you but I don’t know what it is and I need you to work it out some how because I need you, dad,” You whimper.
He finally looks at you.
“These last few months have been so hard without you and now H/n is going off to war, I’m not sure if I’m even going to get married, and you still won’t fucking talk to me!” You shouted but the tears in your eyes betrays your anger. “I’m scared out of my mind I’m going to lose H/n, that I’m going to lose Finn... That I already lost you,” A few tears fall down your face. “I’m sorry for whatever I did, please forgive me because I need you so fucking back,”
By the end you were close to sobbing and falling to you knees. You sobbed but you never fell. Tommy was out of his seat and was wrapping his arms around you before your knees could give away.
He leads you to the couch and sits down. You curl into his chest like you used to do when you were younger. He hums quietly and rocks you.
“You didn’t lose me, darling girl,” He whispers to you. “I’m so sorry for the way I’ve acted. I should have never treated you like I have. No, I don’t like H/n but not because of who he is but because he’s taking my little girl from me,” You tilt your head to look at him. “For nearly 26 years you have been the center of my world,” He whispers quietly. “Through everything, you have been the most important constant in my life. There were many times you were my only source of happiness, my only will to live,” He admits. “I’m terrified of what I’ll do without you,”
“You’ll never be without me,” You whisper to him. “I live ten minutes away and you’ll still see me daily whether H/n likes it or not,” Tommy smiles a bit. “And maybe when the war is over you’ll have more mini me’s running around,” Tommy scowls at the thought of the process of making children rather than the thought of the actual kids.
“You’re happy with him?” You nod. “You love him and he loves you?” You nod again. “Has he hurt you?” You shake your head. He sighs, slightly frustrated with the lack of reason to murder H/n. Not that he really needed a reason but he knew if he did he would hurt you. He’s already hurt you enough as it is. “Then you have my blessing,” You smile at him.
“He leaves before the wedding,” You whisper. He shrugs.
“So, move the wedding up,” He says nonchalantly.
“How are we going to set everything up before Thursday?” You ask. He smirks.
“You don’t worry about a thing,” He kisses your forehead. “Let me call Ada, Pol, and Esme. They’ll help you get ready and I’ll worry about the rest,”
“You avoided this wedding the entire time, now you’re going to plan in within a few hours?” You ask.
“I’m Thomas Shelby,” He said as if it were the cure to all diseases. “Up you get,” He gently pushes you out of his lap. “No worrying,” He points at you before kissing your forehead again.
“Who’s going to want to celebrate at a time like this?” You ask before he leaves. He turns toward you and smiles softly.
“Right now is the perfect time to celebrate a moment like this,” Tommy tells you. You can see the honesty in his eyes and can tell he’s briefly reliving the past. You hate that his past is always haunting him and you pray that you’ll be able to help H/s if... when he comes back to you. “Relax, get ready, and I’ll see you in a few hours.”
It didn’t take long for Ada, Polly and Esme to show up. Polly had your dress and Ada had your accessories. The three of them with Lizzie and Ruby helped you get ready for the wedding.
As you got ready, Tommy went to your home where he found H/n just returning. It was obvious that he was surprised to see Tommy but he invited his future in-law inside nonetheless.
“I was a few years younger than you when I was shipped off to France,” Tommy explained to him. “When I returned I wasn’t the same. Nobody who goes through what we went through, what you will go through, returns the same,” Tommy warns. “Y/n was five or six when I got back. She helped give me a reason to keep waking up, to keep moving. When you come back, you’ll need someone that will be able to anchor you into the present. Don’t push people away, especially Y/n... She won’t let you,” Tommy advises with a soft smile as he thinks about you.
“I won’t,” H/s vows.
“You say that now but I promise it’ll be very tempting when you return,” Tommy says. Casually, Tommy walks closer. “Everyone that returns deals with the past differently. I won’t judge you for the drinks you’ll have or even the drugs you may take,” Tommy shrugs. “But if you come back and you turn violent again Y/n at any point. If you so much as hurt her one time, I will personally dig your grave and put you in it,” Tommy promises. “You will come back, you’ll deal with it however you can, and you’ll take care of Y/n and the family you’ll have. If you can’t do that, don’t marry her and walk away now.”
“I love you daughter. I want her happy and I’ll give my life to keep her safe,” H/s vows.
“Good,” Tommy nods. “That’s my little girl. Her happiness is everything to me. You give me one reason to kill you and I promise you and whatever god is out there that I will take that chance,”
“Understood,” H/n slowly nods.
“Good,” Tommy nods again. “Well, let’s get going, you’re getting married in a few hours,” Tommy says walking toward the door. He pulls out a cigarette and begins to light it.
“I am?” H/n calls out confused. Tommy just keeps walking and H/n jogs to catch up.
A few hours later, John and Arthur show up to collect the women.
“Your chariot awaits madam,” Arthur announces loudly. You couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear as he leads you to the car. John winks at you playfully.
“Told you he’d come around,” John teased.
“Should have cried in front of him sooner, that usually does the trick,” You joke back. John grins wider and kisses your head.
“Alright! Let’s get a move on, we’ve got a wedding to get too!” Arthur hollers. When you arrive where the rest of the gypsies and Peaky Blinders are, they cheer for your arrival.
Tommy greets you at the car looking handsome as ever.
“I hope I’m still allowed to walk you down,” He mutters helping you out of the car.
“Of course,” You smile leaning into him. He kisses your head and leads you toward the aisle. At the end you find H/s standing there looking breathtaking. “I’m scared,” You whisper.
“That’s alright,” He promises, slowly walking you toward your future husband. “There’s going to be moment where you’re scared but there will never be a moment where you’re alone,” He tells you. You tighten your arm around his. “These last few months will never happen again,” He vows. “I’ll be there anytime and every time you need me,”
“I know,” You whisper.
When you reach the end, Tommy turns toward you. You smile up at him. He gently cups the side of your face.
“I love you,” He whispers, gently kissing your forehead. His lips linger as he remembers the day you were born, the day he left and came back from the war. He remembered every moment he shared with you. He hated that future memories would be shared with H/n but as long as you were there he wouldn’t mind.
“I love you too,” You whisper back, basking in the warmth and safety of his embrace for a moment longer. Tommy hesitantly steps back. You both share a smile before he hands you off to your soon-to-be husband.
