I've seen so many people comparing Hinata and Sakura just to make one look better than the other. And I don't get why. What's the point ?
Sakura is the main female character. She will have more panels in the manga, more feats, development, personality traits, and techniques. Hinata is a supporting character the same way Ino, Kiba and Choji are. So yes, there's less room for her.
They don't serve the same purpose and don't have the same importance for the story. They don't have the same "value" as kunoichi, Sakura is a medic nin and Hinata a tracker that's why she fits so well in her team. Their fighting styles are vastly different even if they're both taijutsu users. They don't have the same personality either, so they don't react the same way in a fight. Especially since they're not trained for the same thing.
I mean it's hightly possible to discuss your fave character without putting the other down. And you can be critical of a character without comparing her/him to another character.

Hi there! I apologize for bothering you. Idk if you've been asked this before, but I'd really like to hear your opinion. If you had to rank the Naruto girls (only the Konoha girls + Temari) from whom you think is the best written to who's the worst written one in your opinion, how would you rank them? It's just that we can all agree they're given the short end of the stick more often than not, and the fandom generally agrees on Sakura and Hinata being the worst, with Temari being the best written of these characters. So, I wanted to know your opinion. Do you agree with the fandom, or do you have any unpopular opinions in regards to them?
Well, what is bad writing anyway? Because, depending on the person, you will end up with entirely different answers. It can be poor planning or research, shallow or inconsistent characterization, lack of plot or development, or tropes and clichés. Sometimes even, marks of "bad writing" are excused or called "smart" in minor characters, as you cannot flesh out every singular character that appears in your story.
As for Sakura and Hinata, I'd argue it's the sexism we all notice in their writing. It's not just frustrating, but it signifies a lack of effort and/or self-awareness in the writer's craft. But are the other Naruto girls really unaffected?
For some strange reason, the most promoted (and beloved) female characters in Naruto (Sakura and Hinata) allegedly also have the worst writing among its cast of all genders. With those two always being the target of criticism and controversy, it appears that most of Naruto's female characters fall into either of these two camps:
Lots of screentime and/or promo but poorly written
Well-written but barely any screentime and/or sidelined
It's almost like screen time was actively harming the female Naruto cast... and maybe it is.
For one, both Sakura and Hinata are not tied into the plot of Naruto because of their merit as independent characters, but for their value as love interests. This is also how they managed to maintain relevance, for Kishimoto didn't bother to give them unique, personal goals that mattered to the story or highlighted their independence from male characters. This means that they are playing into a sexist cliché in which women and girls are only relevant as lovers and mothers to men and boys.
And two, for lack of genuine characterization, Sakura and Hinata are reflections of Kishimoto's fantasies and stereotypes about the female gender. Sakura is boys-crazy and gets unreasonably angry all the time. Hinata is adorably shy and needs a guy to save and lead her. Once again, sexist clichés.
But then, when you look at Ino, Ten-Ten, and Temari, they don't leave as bad a taste in people's mouths as Sakura and Hinata - But is it really because they are "better written"? I'd argue not. So here's my hot take for the day: Ino, Ten-Ten, and Temari are not well-written. They simply have less poor writing.
First of all, let's loop back to the beginning of this post. A main character will always be judged more harshly than a background character. The more time we spend with a character, the more aware we become of their flaws and the more important it is to minimize them (at least the frustrating kind). But then, when a background character ends up shallow or stagnant, those "mistakes" will be considered "shortcuts" instead. Sakura easily has a richer story than Temari, but we simply had higher expectations for our main heroine. Sakura's lack of plot is a mistake and Temari's a supposed necessity.
Second, the fact that Ino, Ten-Ten, and Temari are mostly irrelevant to the story is a sexist cliché in and of itself. If women and girls only matter as mothers and lovers to men and boys, those who are not mothers and lovers (to main characters) serve no plot relevance and will therefore be written out of the story. But, as per my previous point, this cliché is less obvious due to its inherent reduced exposure. Paradoxically, the presence of the cliché causes you not to notice the cliché.
Third, as a consequence of my second point, had Ino, Ten-Ten, and Temari instead been written as the "main girls" of the story, they likely would've achieved that role under the same sexist conditions that Sakura and Hinata did. In fact, it is happening already, for Ino, Ten-Ten, and Temari largely exist as support characters to more prominent male characters. As per my first point, screentime might only add more exposure to the problem, not any quality writing.
So... I'm not entirely sure what to rate. In my opinion, all Naruto girls are great in concept but lacking in execution, either because they were not elaborated upon or elaborated on poorly. Am I supposed to give plus points to Temari because at least she didn't spend enough time on screen to disappoint or frustrate me? Or give them to Sakura because, while her plotline is disappointing and frustrating, at least she has a plotline? What's worse? Bad writing or no writing at all? Visible sexism or invisible sexism?
Based on gut feeling, I could rank the girls from best to worst as "Temari, Sakura, Ino/Hinata, and Ten-Ten", but that list neither truly reflects the effort that went into either character, nor the amount of clichés that influenced their writing. It's a tough one.
Two sidenotes, just so that my words won't get misinterpreted.
There are also male characters getting sidelined for their lack of relevance to the main characters (Shino, Kiba, Choji, and Kankuro), but that's not what I'm criticizing. My point is that some male characters still get plotlines of their own that do not revolve around a more important character of the opposite gender or romance as a whole (Neji, Lee, Shikamaru, and Gaara). Female characters generally don't, with the exception of Tsunade, maybe.
While Temari's and Ten-Ten's presence is clearly tied to more prominent male characters (Gaara, Lee, and Neji), Ino's is, arguably, more intensely tied to her rivalry with Sakura... which revolves around a boy.

Family, Food, and Gaiden
a lot of people have already talked at length about the bento scene in gaiden, but I wanted to do it too, and specifically how it, gaiden, and the rest of the manga posit (through naruto himself and outside observers) what family is, and that by that metric nh aren't a true family. namely, food and protection. long post warning i like to talk.
so first let's set the stage and go back to chapter 3, where it's observed by kakashi that naruto has been drinking expired milk:
Tumblr media
chapter 3 is a huge chapter for establishing naruto the character, it's early on enough that any information we're presented about him is going to massively affect our perception of the character, where chapter 1 is the turning point in his life through iruka, this is the one that really sets the status quo; naruto has a rivalry with sasuke and a 'crush' on sakura, and we're shown sasuke understands naruto's loneliness. we're shown naruto lives alone and eats alone and the food he eats is expired. we get three panels at the end of this chapter of outsiders (kakashi and hiruzen) commenting on naruto's home, and two are dedicated to pointing out the milk, which makes it the most memorable detail and more likely to affect the readers understanding of naruto. while it's part of the comedic story of the chapter, it also symbolises his loneliness, his lack of a family.
so next is iruka. before iruka protects him, he offers to buy naruto food. while iruka's bodily protection is a very obvious bonding moment between the two, it's the offer of food that sets the stage for them actually bonding:
Tumblr media
naruto also reflects specifically on them eating together, rather than physically saving him, when calling iruka his family at vote1:
Tumblr media
this is connected later in chapter 536, where iruka reflects that he thinks of naruto as a brother (which also lightly refutes narutos vote1 misunderstanding of their relationship being fatherly, and that it further refutes the sns 'brothers' thing, but that's besides the point)
Tumblr media
specifically, he thinks of himself as unable to protect naruto and that that means he's failing to live up to being family. but bee, an outside observer, recognises that they are family regardless:
Tumblr media
and this page ends with naruto eating the letter iruka wrote him, emphasising that it's not just protection that makes a family but food.
so let's go to gaiden and talk more about outsiders. there are five people present in the first part of the bento scene, most importantly boruto, sarada, and shikamaru. boruto is the only one who could be considered a part of the nh dynamic, and he's visibly upset about what he sees in that relationship:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sarada's role in this scene is to tell us explicitly the meaning of the food, boruto's is to show his dissatisfaction with the state of his father's relationships to him and hinata, but shikamaru's is to take over what naruto isn't there to say (his apology), just as bee did above with iruka, and to watch the rest unfold, and we see him every three or so panels, reemphasising that his observation is a critical part of this scene. the big difference is he can't offer any true reassurance, he can't help them, he can only give instructions and relay messages, because unlike iruka and naruto's relationship, this one has no solid foundation
Tumblr media
gaiden further emphasises the connection between food and family through cho cho. when we first see her and choji in a scene we understand she knows her father well through her observations on his chip habits (and serves to further show sarada's lack of a father). the chips are not just food but symbolic of cho cho's connection with her father
Tumblr media
which is why she offers them to sasuke to make up with sarada, even bringing the same flavours as in the above panels. it may come across simplistic, even naive, but it also evokes the lack of connection between sasuke and sarada
Tumblr media Tumblr media
speaking of offering food, let's quickly go back to the bento
Tumblr media
speaks for itself really but it also parallels iruka as the first change and moment we, the readers, see of bonding between sasuke and naruto is not training together or the bodily protection of the land of waves, but once again the offer of food. he also goes on to eat lunch together with sarada and cho cho, but won't come home for dinner. also the favourite restaurant tidbit:
Tumblr media
so it's not just the offering of food but the sharing of food too, we go back to chapter 152, where naruto observes a father and son sharing an icey pole, and even mentions food waiting at home.
Tumblr media
it's another physical symbol of his loneliness, and the association of family, through jiraiya, and then connected again to iruka
Tumblr media
furthermore, the minato one shot strengthens this connection by having minato and jiraiya share the same food in the same scenario of training the rasengan (which in turn was created for kushina)
Tumblr media
kushina and minato are also associated with food in their relationship to naruto, firstly through his name
Tumblr media
but more importantly through their few and last moments with him. the first thing kushina says with her last words is her wish for him to eat well, it's an extension of her wish for him to have connection and family.
Tumblr media
and in his goodbye to minato, naruto begins by mirroring this speech, listing off the foods he likes; these moments are bookends so obviously they'd mirror each other but it shows an understanding on naruto's part of the role food plays in his relationships, and a deeper connection by him listing specifically foods he likes, letting his father know actual facts about him (something cho cho knew about her father)
Tumblr media
he also assures his father he does now have connections:
Tumblr media
so back to gaiden once more. when naruto talks about family he says what's most important is love:
Tumblr media
when sarada reflects on her mother after this, she's specifically shown eating, because food is connection and family. this was about her yearning for a relationship to her father, while her mother was the one there for her, providing her food
Tumblr media
in contrast, nh have never shared food. hinata's offer of food is delivered through boruto and sarada, not from her own hands, and the entire scenario is subject to criticism from the characters and readers. when naruto receives the food he thinks of sasuke instead, someone he has claimed as family over the course of the series, and who is shown through the series to meet the criteria of love and family as food and protection. ergo, nh are not truly family in the eyes of the narrative.
as an addition, ss do not actually share food either. in chapter 173 he physically rejects sakura's offer of food:
Tumblr media
when they do end up 'sharing a meal' in gaiden, they're actually not. beyond the fact they both look miserable, this scene is about appeasing sarada, showing her in a naive contrast to boruto from earlier who accurately understands his parents lack of connection. it's the same as the previous scene where she thinks back on her mother, eating her mothers food and wanting a connection with her father. the table shown only seats two either side, in fact we don't even know that as we can't accurately see how wide it is, we see no place set up for sakura, she's not part of this meal beyond making it. and unlike sarada who is obviously ready to eat by the chopsticks in her hand, sasuke has made no move to touch the food. he is not an active participant in this meal, and therefore in this relationship

Reorganizing the Konoha teams
I know this is an old discussion that doesn't matter anymore, but I got back into Naruto and watched a video rearranging the teams, and it was weirdly bias for Sasusaku and added team 3/team Guy which was weird. So I decided to try my hand at it for fun:
So here are our teams
Tumblr media
Okay to start with, we have to acknowledge the purpose of why they're together.
Team 7 is together because they're meant to help Naruto become a better ninja. Kakashi was Minato's student so there's the whole vow of protecting your master's son thing going on. Sasuke is there because he was the second top student in the academy (Ino being the first) and Kakashi has the sharingan, and Sakura was placed there because of her intelligence and chakra control. On paper, the combination made sense, but when you look at their grades on cooperation...
Tumblr media
Putting two of the least cooperative people together with Kakashi as a sensei in a 4 man team was not a great move. I'm guessing they were hoping that Sakura could pull the team together, but did not take into account of her crush on Sasuke which set this team up for failure. Also, Kakashi's teaching method to solely use real life missions and his tardiness was not effective. These kids needed a more hands-on strict approach. Team practices back-to-back as if they're trying for the Olympics.
Team 8 is together because they're meant to be the manhunt team. They all have abilities to track people and take them down. With a sensei who doesn't play favorites, they're very effective as a group and as individuals unlike team 7.
Team 10 are together because of the Ino-shika-cho tradition which are absolutely perfect balance for reconnaissance missions.
If we had to choose which team is the best between Team 8 and Team 10, it naturally has to go to Team 10.
Tumblr media
With 15 generations of team work perfected with the help of the Sarutobi clan who carries the Will of Fire, they have every angle of their team work covered. Yes, Team 8, is an effective team, but their skills are too similar that they don't blend well together on the battlefield and work better as individuals.
So taking that into consideration, we're going to have to permanently split the ino-shika-cho trio.
Tumblr media
Because in all honesty, you can take out Choji and replace him with anyone else except maybe Shino. I'm sorry! I know Choji is a good boy, but as unique as his attacks are, he's just the muscle. And in all honesty, Naruto being in Team 10 would've helped him a 100 times more than team 7 because Shikamaru is a genius and actually likes Naruto, so he can help Naruto utilize his shadow clones better, and Ino actually cares about cooperation and her abilities that leave her vulnerable will give Naruto a sense of responsibility.
But we want Team 10's skills to be shared with everyone, so they cannot be together. In order for that to make sense, I guess imagine that they have older siblings who is already upholding the tradition as the 16th generation.
Moving forward, naturally one student on each team cannot leave their appointed sensei because they're compatible:
Tumblr media
Team 7: Sasuke has to remain with Kakashi because of the sharingan, the lightning jutsu and their similar personalities. Yes, Kurenai uses genjutsu, but it's not a genjutsu at Itachi's level, and can't provide much more than that on the matter of skills. She may be able to provide a more motherly support, but taking Sasuke's background into consideration, I think a male role model similar to Itachi is more effective.
Team 8: Hinata has to stay with Kurenai because I can't imagine the other two giving Hinata the much needed attention and confidence she needs, especially from one female to another.
Team 10: Shikamaru obviously needs to stay with Asuma because they have that special bond as if Asuma is a second father to him.
Now we move on to the student who actually needs this sensei to help enhance their skills:
Tumblr media
Team 7: Kiba would do better under Kakashi because the man uses dogs who he personally raised as his main summoning animal. Kakashi could've had Pakkun or his other dogs help train Akamaru with Kiba as his partner.
Team 8: Sakura is supposed be talented with genjutsu so naturally she should've gone with Kurenai in the first place in order to tap into that talent. I also think Sakura would've also seen a role model in Kurenai as a kunoichi.
Team 10: Naruto naturally has to be teammates with Shikamaru, but also because Naruto has a natural affinity for wind chakra, Asuma would've been perfect in training Naruto to wield it just as Kakashi taught Sasuke to use light chakra. It also helps that Asuma is the son of the hokage, so he can help Naruto on that as well.
And so we move on to the last three students:
Tumblr media
Who I honestly struggled to place since again, Choji is a close-combat person which the other teams already have covered. So I had to consider where he would be the most useful.
I wanted to make an all-girl group with a flower-theme going on:
Tumblr media
Hinata being the Sunflower, Sakura the cherry blossom and Ino the florist and they have a teacher who uses floral genjutsu. It was perfect! But then I thought about how they would actually perform starting out, and while Hinata does know some taijutsu, she's not very proficient at it, and the girls can't really help her in that department early on in this teamwork.
So here we go:
Tumblr media
Team 7: I placed Ino under Kakashi more for Kakashi's sake than Ino's because the man would be inspired to actually train them as a team in order to take Ino's skills into consideration. Ino is a Sasuke fangirl like Sakura, but Ino is the heiress of the Yamanaka clan so she has more important responsibilities, and has applied herself in the academy to become its top student and likes to take the lead. She won't let her feelings for Sasuke get in the way of making everyone work together.
Team 8: I placed Choji in this team to provide some muscle, and be the training partner she needs to put more oomf in her strikes.
Team 10: I placed Shino in this team in order to do Sasuke's job and that was to cover Naruto's weaknesses and act as the tactician to Shikamaru's strategies. The poor boy also needs the spotlight, and the gags would be funny.
With all these teams covered, how would they work:
Team 7 (The Cool Group): The show makes it seem like Kiba is a copy of Naruto, but honestly, he's a lot more chilled (granted he's not a hated orphaned boy with a demonic animal inside), so with Sasuke, I can only see them having a friendly rivalry if not at all. If anything, even on different teams, Naruto would still declare himself as Sasuke's rival, and the chunin exams would alight that intensity. But even before that, it's not like they won't see each other and fight on sight so the bond is still there. Other than that, Kakashi would train them each separately (not just Sasuke) and together to help Ino use her jutsu which will instill that necessary teamwork. And with Ino's assertive attitude and Akamaru being everyone's support animal, they would have them eat meals together, and won't let Sasuke or Kakashi get out of it if they didn't have something urgent going on. Is it wrong to say this is the more functional version of team 7? Of course, shit hits the fan when Orochimaru attacks, and I'll leave how that turns out for others to imagine. Comment cuz that'd be interesting.
Team 8 (The Gentle Group): I believe Kurenai would've trained Sakura in not only genjutsu but on how to be the team leader in order to fully use her intelligence. She would have Sakura on mock survival trainings in the forest in order to not crumble under pressure, and use her team effectively. Kurenai would have Choji and Hinata train together to strengthen their taijutsu and their confidence.
Team 10 (The Weirdo Group): I believe Asuma, Shikamaru and Shino would collab together to help Naruto become a respectable ninja. Asuma would help Naruto learn taijutsu before introducing him to wind chakra. Shino would help teach Naruto what should've been drilled into him in the academy and under Asuma's observation, help Naruto on his tactics which Naruto is pretty good at since he's a clever prankster, but Shino helps him refine it. Naruto respects Shino for that, but is incredibly weirded out by his attempts to become friends and doesn't know how to break Asuma to do as he wants since the sexy jutsu doesn't work on a womanizer like him. As for Shikamaru, he's more involved in Naruto's training when actual missions are involved since he actually has to use his brain for them.
I could say more, but that's all I should say.

happy winter time! naruto, dealer's choice. thank you!
a continuation of 1
Sakura is terrified that she’s going to mess this up.
Naruto’s never been mean to her, and has complimented her hair several times, but they’re not really friends. Back when she was friends with Ino, she’d see her at the Yamanaka compound sometimes and they’d play together, but she doubts Naruto remembers that.
Sakura doesn’t think she and Sasuke have ever had an actual conversation. He used to be the center of all their competitive crushes, to his hilarious dismay, but then he got betrothed to Naruto and no one was willing to piss off the hokage’s daughter by flirting with her fiance.
Well, besides Ino, but everyone knows she does it just because Sasuke hates it and Naruto feels duty bound to defend him.
Also because Shikamaru ended up taking Sasuke’s place as Cutest (and Available) Boy and Ino would rather stab herself in the eye than bat her eyelashes at Shikamaru, even if that means there’s a social game she can’t win.
Sakura's on a team with son of the Uchiha clan head and the hokage’s daughter, Rookie of the Year and Top Kunoichi, and their sensei isn’t even some normal jounin, but the Inuzuka clan head.
Tsume-sensei seems dismayed when they pass, although Sakura thinks she should have expected this. Naruto and Sasuke have been working as a team for even longer than they’ve been engaged.
Maybe she’s just surprised that they folded Sakura in with them instead of leaving her behind. Honestly, she’s pretty surprised by that too.
“Does this mean we get a dog?” Naruto asks brightly as Sasuke picks twigs out of her hair. “Mom says I only get one pet and doesn’t believe me that the frog doesn’t count.”
“No,” Tsume-sensei snaps, then, “Maybe, I don’t know. I hadn’t actually expected that I’d have to train you, fuck.”
Sakura can’t see this going well.
~
Naruto walks home with Sasuke, because her mother is working late to avoid her father and her father is working late to avoid the fact that her mother is working late to avoid him.
She wishes they’d just get a divorce. Maybe they will now that she’s legally an adult. Maybe she’ll move out and take herself out of the equation.
She won’t. But she thinks about it a lot.
“Maybe it’s good that it’s Tsume,” she says. “Sakura’s biggest weakness is her conditioning and you know that Tsume will train us into the dirt.”
Sasuke hums. “Maybe we should introduce her to Gai.”
She stares. “Do you hate Sakura?”
“She’s fine,” he says dismissively. “It’s too bad we didn’t get Hinata, but both my father and hers would have thrown a fit and gone to complain to yours. He’s the best at taijutsu, if she joins Team Nine’s morning workouts then she’ll be up to par in no time.”
“If it doesn’t kill her,” Naruto says dryly. “Why don’t we see what Tsume cooks up first, yeah? The first chunin exam is months away. She has time.”
“How do you know Tsume will sign us up for that one?” he asks, although by the glint in his eye he already knows.
Naruto answers anyway. “Tsume is going to take the first opportunity to get rid of us that she can, which would be the chunin exams. She’ll be praying for us to either pass or die.”
He laughs, a breathy sound that wouldn’t qualify coming from anyone else.
They arrive at the Uchiha compound and she stares at it wistfully. After helping uncover the almost betrayal, every Uchiha is nice to her now. The compound is so warm and bright and everyone is happy to see her and there’s always somewhere she can go.
“You can join me,” Sasuke says. “Mom always makes extra.”
Just in case she shows up.
“They’ll be expecting me to be home after the test,” she says, trying not to sigh. “I’ll see you tomorrow, yeah?”
Sasuke nods, a pinched look on his face that she pretends not to notice.
When they get married, she hopes they live in the compound.

Speaking of ships, if you're comfortable, which one's DO you ship? Or maybe just characters you like seeing together in general? I assume one of them is Kakashi and Gai, which is PEAK btw! Have any others you love? (Feel free to ignore if you don't want to get into it I'm just curious ☺️)
Ooooh ok so I feel like I haven’t seen quite enough of the show to really appreciate different character dynamics yet, but I’ve seen quite a lot of cute fanart floating around, which has definitely influenced my shipping opinions. So here are my thoughts so far, separated into three categories:
1. Ships I ship:
-Kakashi and Gai: I love this ship! I think their dynamic is hilarious, I love all the fanart I’ve seen of them, and the fact that they stick together after the end of the show makes me soft.
-Ino and Sakura: I genuinely am far more interested in Sakura’s dynamic with Ino than her dynamic with Sasuke. I think the reason this ship interests me is because it’s kinda messy- in my head, Ino realizes she likes Sakura first and is deeply in denial about it while kinda pining from afar, and it takes Sakura quite a bit longer to realize her own feelings (there’s a lot of denial that they also like girls on both sides). Their ship also has a kinda “friends to enemies to friends to lovers” trajectory, which is cool.
-Izumo and Kotetsu lmao.
2. Ships that I don’t really ship personally, but I do enjoy seeing cute fanart/posts about them and I definitely see the vision. I could see myself changing my mind about these in the the future:
-Choji and Ino: this is honestly based on some really cute fanart I’ve seen rather than their in-show dynamic so far, but I find it wholesome.
-Kiba and Hinata: I love a good “opposites attract” ship. I was also surprised how much Kiba is shown to care for Hinata in OG Naruto, but the thing that’s keeping me from actually shipping them is the fact that I like them more as friends.
-Gaara and Lee: I really want to like this ship more than I do (maybe my mind will change?) because I definitely see the vision, but it just hasn’t really clicked in my head. Again, I do love a good “opposites attract” ship
3. I’ll also throw in some takes on ships I DON’T personally like (but no hate to anyone who ships them, they’re definitely still valid)
-Kakashi and Iruka: I just don’t really understand why people ship them (feel free to explain it to me if you do!) for anything other than the fact that they both are mentor/parental/older brother figures for Naruto.
-Sasuke and Naruto: okay, hear me out with this one. I DO somewhat ship this… except only as far as them having one-sided feelings for each other at different points in time. In my mind, this ship is kinda a doomed one, which also makes it interesting, but I don’t ship it the way I ship other pairings.
-Sasuke and Sakura: I just don’t think their dynamic is interesting at all. Also genin Sakura’s fawning over Sasuke is kinda painful.
-Sakura and Naruto: I personally think Sakura sees Naruto as a brother and wouldn’t entertain a romantic relationship with him.
-Naruto and Hinata: I know this is endgame but what I’ve seen of them so far is way too one-sided/imbalanced. Hinata’s crush on Naruto feels far more like hero-worship, and though it is nice to see him inspiring her, I don’t like the idea of them actually getting together. From what I’ve heard Kishimoto also just REALLY dropped the ball on developing their relationship so… common Kishimoto L?

simple words
warnings: angst, badly written in my opinion, english not first language, and rushed.
word count: 1.9k
A/N: i did this in one sitting bc i had to get off my mind. but i couldn’t choose on how i wanted to end it T_T
Tumblr media
it was known that you were friends with everyone. friendly with everyone. being the leafs sweetheart almost. but even a little more friendly with shikamaru nara. only being aware of your feelings two years ago during the time when naruto had gone away for training.
it was during a sleepover with the girls. the question had come up about crushes naturally. all were teasing hinata for still not being able to be in a 10 meter radius of naruto without passing out.
and how ino and sakura are still going at it for sasuke. but unfortunately tenten just happened to mention how you would prefer shikamaru’s presence than anyone else.
naturally you were denying these claims. how you act the same with everyone and how they are just seeing things. “[name] you really think that we are that blind? we all can tell that you have a thing for him.” sakura pointed out.
“right. you couldn’t be more obvious then hinata. no offense hinata.” ino added on.
“none taken.” hinata spoke softly as always.
“i think you should make a move [name]. i don’t see anyone else competing with you.” tenten teased. “guys stop it i don’t have a crush on him or anyone else! it never even crossed my mind!” the feeling of blood rushing to your cheeks.
now that fact has crossed your mind. it seems like your cheeks even reddened more. liking the possibility of being with him. ‘i do i actually like him?’ you thought.
“based on how your face is red as a tomato, i think you do have a crush on him. no way you had a crush on him without knowing.” the teasing only began from ino.
sakura joined in only to say how could you like someone who’s so lazy. but he wasn't, he was a hard thinker. and a good person. luckily they calmed down and you learned on how to be more aware about your relationship with him.
preparation for the chunin exams have begun. and with the newly bloomed relationship with the sand village. and with that temari came to help. with that shikamaru was appointed to be her escort.
you could tell they have a different relationship. it was almost like they were more comfortable with each other. he claimed it was a drag and he didn’t like doing it. but secretly you had a feeling you just couldn’t ignore. especially the rumors.
it gotten worse each day. how they looked and acted like a old married couple. how annoying.’ as soon as that thought came you stopped it. ‘no way am i jealous? this isn’t like me…’
these feelings are only brewing more and more. one day you asked shikamaru if he wanted to hang out.
“so shika what do you say? we haven’t hung out in a while?!” you said excitedly.
“nah, sorry can’t. i have to escort temari again. this is starting to be a real drag.” he groaned.
“oh.. well i can help you or something? you know like keep you company!”
“too much company in my opinion. women can be such a drag.” typical response. but it still hurts a bit. “oh okay next time then.”
he walked away while waving from behind. wasn't the first time he rejected your proposal. you would often do a little pleading with him. but this time it’s different. it's for a girl that he’s rejecting you. but it’s his job right? to keep her safe while here. not like he want that time to be alone with her.
now shikamaru was no idiot he could tell you were drawn to him more but merely brushed it off. girl and boys can be just friends too. when naruto had come back he walked with him alongside temari and sakura. after leaving the hokage building. naruto hinted at the idea of him and temari he also said something else.
“you know shikamaru i would always thought you would end up with [name] seeing how she was always close to you.” naruto blurted out.
“shut up you idiot. i’m not with anyone, nor am i going to be.” he said right back.
“yeah as if i would ever be with him.” temari almost grossed out of the idea.
he can’t lie that he enjoys temari’s presence. it was different. without both of them knowing they do some friendly flirting.
lady tsunade sent you on a mission alone C level nothing you can’t handle on your own. you had heard some voices coming. once they became more clear it was them. shikamaru and temari in pure panic you hid up in a tree. he never walked her this far; he always left her at the village entrance.
“so you have a little girlfriend. is that right?” she teased.
“huh? what are you talking about.” he raised an eyebrow.
“naruto was talking about how [name] is so close to you. and always with you.” she elaborated.
“she more like a clingy friend than anything else. a nice friend but extremely clingy in my opinion.” did you hear that right? are you sure you aren’t imagining it?
“aw come on, don't be like that, she's nice. she probably just has a crush on you.”
“yeah, yeah whatever. bye see you.” he didn’t want to continue the conversation so he left.
“see you soon!” she yelled as he walked away.
you stood in place. clingy? is that how he saw you. that’s the equivalent of being annoying. were you annoying? you know how he didn’t like people who were annoying. he likes to be at peace. your mind being sent into a mental overdrive. seemingly almost forgetting that you were being sent on a mission.
the whole time being sent on your mission his words repeating in your mind. your soul was crushed. someone who you thought had a good relationship with. only thinks you're clingy. heartbroken was an understatement. what if others would agree? were you actually clingy?
‘i have to stop thinking this is getting out of control.’ you thought. and with that you completely shut off the rest of the time and not think about it. when coming back it felt like a fever dream.
not to mention what happened in the sand village when you were gone. sakura fills you in on what happened. shocking as it was if you were being honest that wasn’t your main concern. now being self aware of how you acted, you made sure you toned it down a bit. sakura invited you to a dinner that everyone is coming to.
when dinner time came you went to the restaurant where dinner was taking place. you greeted everyone, sitting down and the night began. you kept your answers nice and short.
nothing too complicated. sat between naruto and lee you didn’t have to say much. but having shikamaru across from you your nerves never seemed to calm down. having to be painfully aware of a reality that you just didn’t want to face.
“i think i'm going to call it a night. i'm still tired from coming back.” you got up while making the announcement.
as you were walking out ino nudged shikamaru to walk you home like he has always done.
“hey!, i’ll walk you home.” he called out. you stopped. but not turning to face him.
“actually, there isn’t really a need. I'll be fine on my own but thank you.” you stated walking out.
he stood there confused and sat right back down. “damn shikamaru, whatcha do that got her upset? i don’t think i’ve seen her reject someone walking her home, even you.” kiba laughed as akamaru barked.
“you think something happened to her? i feel like something is upsetting her.” sakura said in a worried tone. “yes!, indeed! i feel as if something happened to [name] also!” lee agreed.
“i hope nothing happened to her while on her mission.” hinata spoke. “nah! [name] is a sweet person you know! with a strong mind no way a little C level mission can change something. right shikamaru.” naruto yelled while eating his food.
“yeah, no way something could’ve happened.” shikamaru reassured. neji agreed with him, the others were not so convinced. nonetheless didn’t think much of it.
days went by and you didn’t seem to revert back to your old self. everyone was concerned but you told them it was nothing to worry about.they were just imagining it.
you stopped hanging out with shikamaru as much. not like you think he actually mind that much. you say by yourself under a tree, and shikamaru seemingly popped out of nowhere.
“you women, you're such a drag.” he said, surprising you.
“what are you talking about shikamaru?” a dry but warm response. also using his full name. no nickname.
“what’s up with you. why are you being so weird. i’m getting dragged into this because everyone thinks i should talk with you.” he sat down just about 1 foot away from you.
“i honestly don’t know where you guys are getting this from but it’s getting annoying. i think you guys are imagining things” almost chuckling.
“stop the bullcrap. something’s bothering you. you haven't hung out with us as much anymore” what a serious tone he used.
“would you leave me if i told you? would you drop this and forget it.”
“yeah, i guess i would not sure about the others.” he put his arms up against the back of his head and laid back on the tree.
“fine then. more or less i got heartbroken by some guy and he told me something that made me aware of some things. there. happy now?” said with a defeated tone. if you were to go more into it you fear you would burst into tears.
“man, all of this over some dude. what a pain. he probably wasn’t worth it.”
“…” it was too much. you had overheard about how temari had broken down into shikamaru’s arms after almost losing her two brothers. villagers stating how they almost kissed.
how they went out to dinner and he never made her pay. new travels fast. not to mention how you overheard him to the guys saying he wouldn’t mind the idea of being married to her. when he was asked.
“don’t start thinking about how he was probably worth it.” he complained about the idea of you spouting nonsense about this “guy”.
“i won’t. he doesn’t even like me. he likes someone else. anyways you told me you would leave me alone.” you huffed. still acting like nothing personally wrong with the two of you.
“oh right, man this is over some guy? don’t be getting everyone worried like that.” he stood up.
“you don’t understand. you’re just a guy.” you playfully said with a hint of sadness. not only did he make you self conscious about how you act. and how annoying you could possibly be. a girl who has known him in less time has won him over.
“right, sure even then that’s too much work to even understand so i’ll let you be.” so he left. leaving you with your thoughts.
when he returned to report on the conversation to the rest of the girls, they had a feeling that “guy” was actually the person spilling all this information. they came to your house later that night. and eventually. you caved.
“he likes her. i can’t compete with her. he called me clingy?! i’m i really that clingy?? am i so annoying to him?” the tears went on for the night. nothing that others could say that would help.
unfortunately now you had your brain chemically altered. over just some simple words. and your unrequited love is nothing more than a mere empty fantasy.
Tumblr media
heyy! hope this wasn’t a pain to read. i feel as tho this was badly written and rushed. lmk if it is then i’ll fix it!

Why will I not finish watching Naruto not that anyone asked but I wanna ramble? Because since Sasuke and Naruto ended up in marriages to different people (and from what little I've seen, are pretty horrid fathers and also not very good husbands for that matter), I literally Do Not think Naruto Shippuden has a happy ending. Naruto spent the entire anime chasing after Sasuke desperately. He was willing to give up his dream and die by Sasuke's side. Sasuke has never exhibited a single shred of interest in women. And Naruto is one of the few people that has ever kept his interest. They're arguably the most narratively significant to each other, and before Shippuden the show kept saying over and over they might've been good friends if only if only etc. paralleling the two against each other. I GET that they wanted to make Boruto, but literally it would've made more sense to me for Sasuke to have paid someone to carry his bloodline over believing that fruit basket actually fell for someone other than Naruto. And him marrying Sakura specifically was weird to me because I fully believe she deserves better. Not in an "I hate Sasuke he doesn't deserve her" kind of way but because I like them both and I think they're ill matched. Sakura got character development and I feel like making her get together with a childhood crush that never gave her the time of day before isn't progress, it's a setback.
This story ending doesn't read to me as "I got my best friend back and ended up fulfilling my dream and settling down and getting married with the love of my life". It reads to me as, "I'm in love with my best friend and I got him back, but not in the way I wanted. I settled and married because it was expected of me and sure I love her but it's still not the same." And on Sasuke's end, it reads to me as "I've hurt this person too much to warrant staying in his life for too long, he has given up too much for me already. I settled and married because I need to pass on my bloodline gifts but I don't truly love her". There is nothing worse in my books than missed opportunities, ESPECIALLY not for two people who I believe would have a love story FOR THE AGES. You can say Naruto loves Hinata but I think it pales in comparison to what he feels for Sasuke. And I don't wanna hear any fucking complaints about "wahhh they're not gay" - I don't give a shit about sexuality, this is about how narratively, a love story between these two would be so much more interesting than any of the canon couples. If they were a man and woman they WOULD have been canon. Their love would've been something people write epics about and it DIDN'T. WORK. OUT.
They should've ended up together. Naruto Shippuden doesn't have a happy ending. I'm never going to finish watching it.

Hi, I am back after a long break which was caused by my private work. Unfortunately I will be answering question much slower from now on and I am really sorry.
I got quite a lot of asks about the same things which are if Sasuke kissed Sakura, if they had sex mainly talking about ss shippers saying that Sakura was blushing when Sarada said sth about Sasuke which means that she had sex with him or him coming home late and leaving early in the morning and of course the novels where it was mentioned she had a glow. I decided to make a post about it than rather address the same questions separately. When it comes to kissing I made a whole post debunking that Sasuke kissed Sakura or I would rather say kisses Sakura so I am not going to repeat myself but the answer is no, they did not kiss. About sex, let's first start with these mentioned scenes that ss claim are proof that they are having sex. The first scene I believe refers to Boruto the movie where Sarada was talking with Sakura and she mentions something about Sasuke coming back what makes Sakura blush which points to her having smexy time with him. Firstly, no matter the age Sakura always blushes when Sasuke is around or when someone mentions him to her. This behaviour from her started since the academy days and stayed because their relationship did not change which means Sakura still has a crush that is not reciprocated, is a fangirl and Sasuke ignores her. Look at this panel when they were children
Tumblr media
The same old story. Sarada just teased her mother about her fangirling behaviour. There is nothing sexual here. Secondly, Sakura says to Sarada that she is happy too because Sasuke is back which confirms it was not about sex. SS are just delusional and creepy. Sasuke coming home late at night and leaving very early in the morning is from a filler episode which is not canon. The only canon source of SS marriage is Gaiden, Boruto the movie and Boruto manga. We know from the movie and manga that when Sasuke is in the village he sleeps outside. The only time we are told that he slept at his home is in Gaiden but he did it for Sarada. The next day he was out and also the atmosphere was awkward. This is the scene from the movie where Sasuke talks with Boruto late at night somewhere in the forest.
Tumblr media
The same thing is with Naruto, he also sleeps mostly at his Hokage office and when at home in different bed than Hinata's. Also the information about Sasuke coming late and leaving very early is not good for SS. It just seems like Sasuke wants to avoid Sakura at all costs. When a husband loves his wife he wants to go to sleep with her and wake up next to her. This is also form of bonding which Sasuke does not want with Sakura. The novels are also not canon because they contradict with the source material and Sasuke is not himself. They wrote in this novel about the glow because they want to satisfy SS shippers. They do this all the time e.g. SS shippers wanted time skip Sarada to look more like Sakura and have long hair but they did not do it. She still looks like Karin and the shippers were mad so what the people working on the Boruto did? they released the information that the first design was to have Sarada with long hair. A person with two brain cells will know that this is marketing strategy to not lose money and fans because SS makes the most money but they are just plain stupid. They did the same thing with the glow thing because people were asking if they really had sex and suddenly boom the novel says yes. See the pattern here. Lastly, my personal opinion is that I am not 100% if they did it. Sarada is their child but Gaiden is very shady about how she was conceived especially with the theme of dna modification, creating clones, Karin having umbilical cord or everyone, even Naruto, believing that Sasuke would cheat which shows how everyone around sees their relationship as not solid. This panel with Orochimaru talking to Sarada is even more sus.
Tumblr media
Look at Sasuke here. He also stops their conversation in the next panel. Really weird but lets assume that they had sex then I just think it was only one time and after that Sakura got pregnant. It was loveless just like their whole relationship and it would explain why Sakura is still so much desperate for Sasuke. She just does not get any physical touch from him.

fascinating when people agree naruto loves Love sasuke but they just *can’t* see naruto being gay no matter what because. leaving aside everything he does for sasuke. we actually have canon proof that naruto thinks sasuke is attractive. in fact naruto thinks sasuke is sooo pretty he canonically gets mad if you insinuate someone is near to sasuke in the looks department. and not only that but he only does this with sasuke. sakura, the one he swears having a crush on, gets called ugly in front of him and he never feel any urge to fight for her looks and hinata who he married apparently, doesn’t even get a compliment on her looks ever not that we ever explore any naruto feelings for her aside average friendship. so really saying it’s impossible to think of him as gay is silly because not only he has a deep emotional connection to sasuke the way he doesn’t have with anyone else but he’s also physically attracted to him

the sexism in naruto is actually so crazy and all encompassing. every female character is defined by her relationship to men. the majority are boy-crazy. and it’s constantly remarked upon how weak they are when compared to their male teammates.
not only that but the main male characters actively dislike the women they’ve been paired off with. shikamaru is into temari but his infinite dream is not having to marry her. sai ends up with ino despite finding her ugly. naruto thinks hinata is weird and boring. sasuke’s dislike of sakura is infamous.
adult men’s interest in women is seen as comical and alien. (reactions to the sexy jutsu, jiraiya harassing women). almost all of the adult men are perpetual bachelors or sex perverts (and those who aren’t are stand ins for “mom and dad”).
when boys actually do like girls, it’s to show goofy immaturity and innocence (naruto’s crush on sakura that he grows out of as he reaches maturity, lee’s crush which is dropped entirely, obitos crush on rin which lasts into adulthood just to show he isn’t entirely separate from the boy he once was)
the whole ninja society likes to imagine it is a mostly gender blind world where women can thrive but this is SO obviously untrue. women are almost always healers and support. women make up less than 1/3 of the ninjas even at genin level. girls are almost all desperate to become wives and earn the attention of boys who don’t even like them!
mikoto uchiha was a jonin and presumably directly descended from the uchiha line (based on characters commenting that she/sasuke look just like izuna uchiha), but we only ever see her retired and raising her sons while her husband gets to be clan leader. (why?? if he married into the main family and she is an extremely capable ninja??)
similarly kushina uzumaki is borderline royalty and a jinchuriki, but her husband is hokage. once again the mother carries on the burden of power (for her sons to inherit) but the father has the title and status.
even the backstory of ninja enforces this. kaguya literally ate the forbidden fruit, giving the gift of chakra to all of humanity but also dooming them to fight for eternity. literally womens original sin …
anyway it’s not that all this sexist shit is in the story. it’s that kishimoto seemingly has no idea it’s there and believes the women he writes have epic girl power. how do you even do this by accident. why does every boy hate their wife. why did kaguya commit the original sin ! the girl characters want so badly to be with a boy but they don’t even care that the boy doesn’t like them back!! sakura and hinata are in loveless marriages of obligation and THEY DONT EVEN CARE??? they’re into it??? does kishimoto think men are universally forced to marry women they don’t like? does he blame women for this?WHY IS THE ORIGINAL SIN DRIVING THE BUS ALL THE SUDDEN?

Hi hope it’s not to late to request Yandere Naruto with a female ninja reader concept please :)
Sure! Keep in mind I am not finished Naruto so this is a general concept. His obsession would most likely be a ninja anyways so you can also view this as a regular concept maybe (There's another concept in the drafts I was debating on just... combining with this one but I realized I'd have to change genders. So if the regular concept is very similar to this one, it's because I meant to put them together....)
Yandere! Naruto with Ninja! Darling
Pairing: Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Female Darling, Obsession, Clingy behavior, Delusional behavior, Possessive/Overprotective behavior, Stalking, Blood, Violence, Implied accidental murder, Dubious relationship.
Tumblr media
Naruto would normally have a ninja obsession in my opinion.
Due to what goes on in the story, a lot of the people he deals with are ninja.
Plus, a ninja obsession would give him the opportunity to stick around them all the time.
A yandere Naruto is a bit amusing since he's oblivious when it comes to other people loving him or hating him.
As shown when he had a crush on Sakura (Who likes Sasuke), while Hinata had a crush on him.
I imagine it would be a similar situation with you.
Ever since you two became Chunin (or even Genin), I can see Naruto looking up to you or encouraging you.
Naruto has a certain personality that just seems to... bring people in.
Which is ironic as he's usually a social outcast or seen as problematic.
The biggest and most important thing Naruto wants from his obsession is simple...
Attention.
While he's been getting more of it throughout his journey...
He likes it the most from you.
You're a girl he respects for her strength and drive.
You also might've been one of the first to not outright judge him for being a "failure" or a host for a powerful demon.
So naturally he gets a crush on you.
Naruto seems like a clingy yandere, following you around and often wanting to train.
When you two are young ninja he often wants to learn from you.
Although, when you're older he likes the thought of teaching you.
Hopefully you're patient when you teach him anything... He either forgets or purposefully pretends to not understand so you stay around longer.
Naruto inspires loyalty and kindness, he's someone even his obsession can trust.
He's been shown to be determined and observant.
He's actually quite smart, ironically I want to call him cunning at times (like a fox...).
He's confident and wants to impress you because you're his crush!
Naruto's obsession most likely comes from the fact he's desperate for attention... and maybe the nine-tailed fox within him.
Maybe that could explain his intense jealousy when he sees you with your ninja team?
While loud, Naruto is also insecure.
He wants nothing more than your attention and future affection.
You're a cute girl who paid attention to him in his youth.
Since his crush is quick, he no doubt notices you faster than he would Hinata and your attention may even make him realize he and Sakura might not work.
Which means you get Naruto following your every move.
Naruto loves to watch you improve and even uses his own improvements to impress you.
Anything to see you smile... for him.
Naruto would want to be the reason you smile all the time.
He can't help but grimace when he sees you smile at someone else or ignore him.
Oof... Ignoring him makes him desperate to get your attention back.
If you were part of his team, he's overjoyed because now he's always with you.
Although... He may not get that lucky, leaving you to another squad.
Much to his dismay.
Naturally observant, Naruto keeps track of everything you do. Both as a ninja and in general.
He doesn't even mean it most of the time....
He just... finds everything you do fascinating.
He's forgetful but always seems to know certain things about you.
At some point I can see the strength gap between you no longer close.
When Naruto matures he'd take on a more... protective role with you.
The ninja is hopelessly in love.
He's oblivious to if you feel the same or not.
You could simply be treating him with respect and that alone is fantastic for him.
He's been alone most of his life... Now he's gaining so many friends...
Now... He hopes to have you by his side, too.
Naruto tends to be someone who wants to help.
He'd always want to help you get stronger and soon even enjoys looking after you...
Even though it might've been the opposite in the past.
Naruto tends to have some emotional problems, they're strongest in his youth but more controlled when he grows up.
I can see him picking fights with others in a fit of jealousy, especially when he can't control Kurama's chakra.
He seems childish at times with you, not caring how he gets your attention.
He just wants it.
You're the girl of Naruto's dreams.
He can't help but daydream about you.
Would Naruto kidnap? It doesn't seem like his thing/he wouldn't be that good at it....
He's obsessed with you and while he hates when others have your attention...
He doesn't want to isolate you too much... no doubt due to his past.
It's possible, but he'll have to really snap.
Then afterwards he makes sure to take care of you the best he can.
The only reason he'd kidnap is because he wants you safe, right?
... For the most part.
Although, a form of this could happen when he's older, where he plans to keep you through marriage.
But he'd have to charm you into dating him first... or trick you into it... either way....
Now, murder? Again, not really.
Naruto may get violent at times but I doubt he'd kill someone for taking your attention.
Maybe if Kurama got involved? Yet Naruto should be strong enough to fight those thoughts...
Hopefully.
Beating someone up after he loses control? Showing competitive behavior?
I can see that... yet while he is eager, he doesn't want to hurt you unless influenced.
Although... the idea of him losing control of his desires?
Maybe he sees you hurt in a fight?
Maybe someone gets too close and his mind gets the better of him?
What if all of a sudden, he sees red and just... lets instinct take control.
Then when he's back in control, you look so scared.
All while he's covered in blood, chakra all over the place.
He doesn't like scaring you... however...
The blood on him was necessary, right?
In these moments he'd be so scared of your reaction, hoping you believe him when he says he did it to protect you.
If not...
He isn't sure if he could let you go.
Naruto would get along with a fellow ninja the most.
You'd have more opportunities to get to know him as a ninja compared to a normal person in the village.
Although... Now he has to worry even more about you getting hurt.
You being a ninja driving yourself to get stronger while caring for him is no doubt his type.
He'd do anything to help you, protect you, have you...
You... You won't be scared if he gets blood on his tracksuit, right? Regardless...
He promises everything he does is to change your life for the better... nothing will hurt you if he keeps a watchful eye on you at all times... or if he carefully becomes the only person you need.

Naruto team group chat headcannons! Part 1
Team 7: Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke
I love these guys but they’re little shits and awful little assholes. You know every time they hang out with others they’re all:
Sakura: Did you See what Kiba was wearing
Naruto: no frrrr
Sasuke: Why does he always look like he’s trying to get shino and hinata to match outfits but neither agree to do it so he tries to match both of them and it never works
Naruto: bruhhh
Plus gossip monger Sakura and Sasuke who pretends to be better than that but isn’t
Sasuke: Is it just me or was Neji like. Extra asshole today
Sakura: no bc Ino told me that Hinata saw him and Lee get into an argument like two hours before it started AND OMG guys do we think Tenten has a crush on him
Naruto: :( Why are he and Lee fighting
Sasuke: Tenten fs likes Neji I just can’t tell if he likes her back
A healthy dose of “if one of us doesn’t like you we all don’t like you”
Sakura: Also guys Ino and I are arguing rn so we don’t like team 10 ok?
Sasuke: Again? Fine.
Naruto: but Sakura-chan I’m supposed to get ramen with Choji tomorrow!!
Sakura: Naruto!
Naruto: uGH fine
Naruto: But also we have to avoid Team 8 for a bit because Kiba’s being a dick
Sakura: Not a problem we hate seeing Hinata getting red every time you walk by anyway
Sasuke: Lmfao did you SEE Hinata hanging on Naruto today like it was worse than normal
Naruto: Cmon guys be nice
Sakura: N-n-n
Sasuke: Naruto-kun!
Their favorite activity is talking mad shit ok.
Also their chat is half Naruto sending shitty little memes. Sakura and Sasuke never find the same ones funny.
They’ve also definitely got dinner plans in the chat half the time like:
Naruto: Guys Ichiraku tn after training?
Sakura: I have to ask my mom hold on
Sasuke: I’m down
Sakura: Ok she said yes I’ll come
Naruto: Yessssss :D
Sakura: Calm down Naruto it’s just ramen
Naruto: Take that back RIGHT NOW ramen is a WAY OF LIFE
Sasuke: Just invited Kakashi so he can pay for us
Naruto: ^_^
Sakura: ^_^
Speaking of Kakashi they fs have running commentary and analysis on how late he’s gonna be for training
Naruto: Guyssss I’m running late how much time do you think I have before Kakashi gets there
Sasuke: Well training starts at 9 and it’s 9:15 so I’d say you have 30 minutes more
Sakura: Wait no it’s a Friday so he’ll want to get here early so he can finish early and go drink with the other jounin. You have 15 minutes max
Sasuke: But yesterday was Kurenai’s birthday so he’ll be hungover this morning so he’ll actually be later than usual
Naruto: So i can take my time?
Sasuke: No usuratonkachi get your ass over here asap
Sakura: Yeah please I don’t want him to hand us over to Gai sensei as punishment again. My body still hurts from all that running

Could you please explain to people how Sakura and Hinata, while different in personality, are both extremely selfish when it comes to what they want? Some people don’t understand that they are both fictional characters with no will other what what’s written for them, and character’s that are very much NOT girl bosses
Sorry for the delay, but sure.
People in the fandom seem to have this idea that Sakura and Hinata's writing is different from one another because they have different personalities, Sakura being loud and reckless while Hinata being quiet and insecure. That being said both show from time to time that their behaviour is centered in their desire to be acknowledged by the boy the have a crush on, Sasuke and Naruto respectively. So basically all there is to each girl is "getting the guy", that's it, there's no more to it so you can't really separate Sakura and Hinata from those ships because those ships are integral to their characters. So when their only goal is getting the boy they want they will come out as selfish.
In the case of Sakura we see it more often because she's a more important character than Hinata who doesn't quite appear as much in the manga, which I assume is the reason why most people in the fandom think selfishness is a trait of Sakura while Hinata is the "selfless princess Hyuga" lol.
How do we find selfishness in Sakura? We see it first hand when she makes fun of Naruto for being an orphan in front of Sasuke, another orphan, trying to look cool. Sasuke ends up calling out her behaviour
We also see it when Sasuke is about to leave the village and she attempts to stop him, but ends up comparing the Uchiha massacre and the loneliness this caused in Sasuke to her not having her crush by her side and how she'd be equally lonely, thus minimizing Sasuke's pain and trauma.
Another instance is when Sasuke becomes a war criminal and a bounty is put on his head and everyone gives up on him including Sakura and excepting Naruto. Not only does she gives up on Sasuke and never attempts to research about the uchiha massacre and doesn't know "the truth about Itachi" but she also feels she's the one that must execute him because it's "her duty" to save him from a life of darkness because SHE loves him.
One last example is Team 7 fighting against Madara where Sakura charges against the enemy with no plan whatsoever because she wants to be on par of Naruto and Sasuke and for the latter to notice her, what happens then is she's stabbed and has to be saved by Sasuke and Naruto, oh! and Sasuke ignores her so she did all that for nothing.
Now, how is Hinata selfish? this can be harder to pinpoint because as I previously mentioned her shy quiet personality and lack of appearancs in the manga seem to conceal it. But we see the selfishness through Neji. The Hyuga clan practices slavery and Hinata at no single point in the manga challenges this status quo (and that's why forever and always good for Neji for beating her ass up). Some of her fans try to justify this by claiming Hinata can't change the way her clan by herself, mind you she's the fucking heiress. Ignore the ugly Saori edit
Tumblr media
ewwwww
We also have the fight against Pain that everyone told her not to engage with because she'd do more danger than good but she simply HAD to let Naruto know she had a crush on him y'know?? she obviously loses without even scratching Pain and almost dies but in the process Naruto loses control of the kyubii and we're later told it was a miracle he didn't kill anyone.
But it's still fucked up to think what would have happened to Naruto's mental health had Hinata died, wow you told the dude you loved him and he inspired you to come and fight and is the reason you're doing all this and now you're dead, can you imagine the toll this would have taken on Naruto?
Lastly we have Neji die. Kishimoto did say in an interview on FujiTV back in 2014 he used Neji's death to bring Hinata and Naruto together in that hand holding scene
Tumblr media
so basically Neji, a far more compelling character than Hinata ever was, dies in favor of an underwhelming underdeveloped ship (then Kishimoto tried to do damage control by naming Naruto and Hinata's kids in honor of Neji). We also see Hinata's reaction (or lack of) by holding Naruto's hand thinking about how warm it is while Neji's dead body is laying right besides them.
So yeah, both characters are entirely consumed by their superficial infatuation towards Naruto and Sasuke but never attempt to get to know them. On top of that, as ninjas they never really improve their skills, like we see Hinata and her special jutsu she developed be worth shit because she still couldn't attack Pain and also Sakura get the Byakugou seal then charging against Madara and getting stabbed without scratching him.

I love the idea of the older Naruto gen getting drunk together and reminiscing over past crushes.
And sure, everyone knew that Ino and Sakura had crushes on Sasuke, but there's way juicier stuff in there.
Chouji makes Shikamaru admit that he also had a crush on Sasuke in the academy, which everyone bullies him relentlessly for.
The entirety of Team 7 keep saying the name 'Haku' with dreamy and sad sighs, but none of them will explain who the hell that is.
So many people in attendance had a crush on Naruto at one point or another *cough* Neji, Hinata, Sasuke *cough* Sasuke refuses to admit it, and Hinata throws the attention onto Neji by claiming that Neji only started liking Naruto after Naruto beat him up, which every finds deeply amusing.
Naruto insists that he has wanted to kiss almost everyone in attendance, and further insists that that is entirely normal among friends.
Kiba brings up his puppy crush on Kurenai, which steers the conversation into uncomfortable teacher crush territory. The group is completely split between 'Oh, yeah, Iruka sensei 🥰😍' and 'Iruka sensei?? Really?? 🤨'
Things don't stay that innocent for long though, which is mainly Ino's fault, so Shino, the only sober one, promptly shuts down the conversation and sends everyone home. The lucky ones are the ones that remember nothing from the conversation by the next morning.
