#sakura is supposed to be a parallel to her master

I've seen so many people comparing Hinata and Sakura just to make one look better than the other. And I don't get why. What's the point ?

Sakura is the main female character. She will have more panels in the manga, more feats, development, personality traits, and techniques. Hinata is a supporting character the same way Ino, Kiba and Choji are. So yes, there's less room for her.

They don't serve the same purpose and don't have the same importance for the story. They don't have the same "value" as kunoichi, Sakura is a medic nin and Hinata a tracker that's why she fits so well in her team. Their fighting styles are vastly different even if they're both taijutsu users. They don't have the same personality either, so they don't react the same way in a fight. Especially since they're not trained for the same thing.

I mean it's hightly possible to discuss your fave character without putting the other down. And you can be critical of a character without comparing her/him to another character.

As obsessed as I am over Makoto’s trial because he’s my favorite character and I am a sucker for angst, I have never once thought about the correlation between his trial and Sakura’s. My good individual you are COOKING

I hadn't thought of it before but I was looking at a playthrough.

To try and see if I could figure out how long Makoto ended up staying in the rubbish pit for after his trial.

I didn't.

But I skipped to far back realised this was Sakura's trial.

And like I know Sakura's trial is before Makoto's, it's why Alter Ego is in the system and Makoto's is the second to last trial.

But I didn't realise it was directly before.

And oh wow the parallels these two have with each other.

To start off with, both of them are innocent.

Both of them are thought to be the instigators when they're instead the victims.

Sakura is an unwilling accomplice.

She was outed by Monokuma before she could explain herself.

Makoto was framed for a crime he didn't commit.

He was thought to be the killer and literally ran out of time before he could explain himself.

Sakura died in a locked room.

Makoto was supposed to die in his room. Which doesn't have a lock.

Sakura poisoned herself with something that was mistaken for a protein shake.

And it's theorised that Makoto may have been poisioned, possibly through his food and thats why he was sick.

And with their trials...

Alter Ego was destroyed in Sakura's trial and ended up saving Makoto in his trial.

Sakura died because many turned on her and she became a source of conflict between them.

Makoto was sent to his execution because everyone was turned on him.

Byakuya was the most vocal against Sakura.

Byakuya was the first person to say Makoto was the culprit.

Makoto lost his trial because Kirigiri, his best friend turned on him.

Sakura's innocence was proven largely because Asahina, her best friend didn't turn on her.

Makoto and Sakura are both the people who were nothing but kind to others.

And were immediately turned on despite it.

Everyone promised after Sakura's death to stop pouting figures, to be united together to figure out the master mind.

And put an end to this killing game.

Everyone is haunted that an innocent life was taken.

... And than Makoto is in his execution chair and no one bat's an eye.

Digimon Kizuna thoughts

All spoilers will be under the cut!

Fresh off of Tri when Kizuna was announced, I wrote up some hopes I had for this movie. Without looking back at that list, I'm pretty sure this movie managed to not hit any of the things I wanted off of that list - but I'm still walking away completely satisfied. The characters, the story, the setting all feel like completely natural progression from how I remember them, it manages to tell a compelling story in a fairly short movie, the animation and designs are drop dead gorgeous. It's clearly a labor or love and I'm thankful for everyone who worked on it. In some ways it leaves me wanting more - I'd love one more entry with the 02 group as a focus, and I think there would be a lot of value in an entry that focuses more on Digimon intigrated with the human world rather than yet another story about kids discovering Digimon. But if this is the last time we see these twelve in this form, what a way to go. 

This is absolutely stream of consciousness writing while I’m on my second watch through of the day (In lieu of livetweeting - I’ll spare my followers that much lol). Is it rambling? Absolutely. It may or may not be of interest, but I thought it would be something fun to do regardless. If you decide to read, I hope you enjoy!

Tom Fahn’s Agumon is noticeably a bit lower pitched even compared to Tri, weather he can’t take his voice up as much or if it’s a different portrayal I’m not sure but it still fits him really well - Tentomon’s voice feel slightly different too. Funny enough Gabumon is somehow lighter and more childish than his original portrayal, but it also fits him well.

Both Tri and Kizuna have such a weird process to their casting - They got back actors that as far as I can tell haven’t done much if anything since their days on Digimon, they’ve gotten back actors for side characters with bit parts. They’ve hired new actors that seem to take the original voice into account and take their own spin on them, and then they hire actors with absolutely no regard for how the original sounded to the point that it just plain conflicts with the established character. It’s all over the place and it’s weird.

Johnny Yong Bosch's portrayal seems slightly different from Tri, maybe he's playing him slightly older, maybe it's the slightly different personality, maybe I'm imagining it. Something about it reminds me of Doug Erholtz's portrayal, which is an added bonus when JYB was already one of the best of the recasts. Minutes in and I'm completely sold on Nicholas Roye's Matt as well, it sounds like a natural progression from his Adventure voice.

In a vacuum Griffin Burns is a decent Davis, but he's one of the recasts that immersion breaking because not only does he sound nothing like Brian Donovan, but his take on Davis is higher pitch than Donovan's so it's impossible to hear him as older. The fact that Donovan was supposed to reprise his role is just salt on the wound. With the insane amount of delays that this dub got, they surely could have brought him back onboard... It's a  shame that 2 our of 3 roles I've heard of Burns have been a replacement of another actor, hope he can get more roles where he can shine more. On the other hand, Bryce Papenbrook as Cody is brilliant casting coming from his 02 voice for what little we get to hear of him.

Yolei didn't sound to great in her video message, but by the time we see her in person her VA has gotten into the role and captures her really well. Hawkmon sounds fine enough, but I'm way more upset than I should be about Armadillomon's voice considering he doesn't have many lines. A recast was mandatory here, and 'medium-deep southern accent' should honestly be pretty easy to replicate but what we got was horrific. What casting director knew enough about the characters to know that Hawkmon had a British accent but not enough to know what an armadillo sounds like??

Mimi is just straight up Sakura now! I actually thought Kate Higgens would have made a great Yolei, kinda funny to see her here as Mimi now.

Not only did Agumon's "Polly want a cracker?" line slay me, but there's something about Tom Fahn's portrayal that really hits me, even though he's not even my favorite Digimon. It hasn't even been a long time since I've heard it - Tri wasn't that long ago, and I just rewatched Adventure/02 within the past few weeks, but hearing him made me a bit emotional, ha. Same thing happened with his first appearance in Tri, and that was after having seen it in Japanese and knowing what was going to happen!

The opening battle is like a complete screw-you to Tai's arc in Tri with Greymon smashing into buildings and Tai completely unfazed. I'm here for it, lol.

The remastered Digivolution sequences are nice but in true nostalgia fashion I kinda prefer the originals, haha.

Izzy's computer is counting down a 'time rimit'.

Agumon says something to the effect of “Aren’t I always hungry?“ and I don't feel like it’s a reference/jab at Tri, but it got a chuckle out of me anyway.

Tai's classmate is blatantly voiced by JYB too, ha.

Matt gives his location as 'inside the restaurant' when calling an ambulance which seems... not helpful. Love that Tai's reaction to a girl collapsing is a confused "Is she drunk?"

An article on Tai's phone is written in perfect English and he gets message from the name Izzy specifically so I'd assume this is a change for the US release. Subtitles would have been perfectly fine but it's a nice effort to keep immersion.

"The ol' Izz-master" I’m so, so glad they got Jeff Nimoy to write this script, bless Toei.

Only 4 of the Digidestined participating in the battle against the Digidestined is kinda disappointing until I realized that it was a throwback to Our War Game - TK and Izzy get to participate more this time around! As per usual Tentomon (Kabuterimon) manages to sneak in a hilarious line here.

'Lime Magazine' just doesn't have the same ring to it...

TAI'S MAGAZINES...

Tai calling Agumon 'little buddy' is the second scene to hit me right in the feels.

Matt is the only one to reach out to the 02 kids during the movie, I wonder if he felt guilty about what went down in Tri and kept in touch with them a bit more since.

Seeing Kari and TK tied up in a dark room like that is actually one of the more shocking scenes in the movie. That could have ended very differently if this was a different movie...

Meiko shows up for literally one scene with Meicoomon which has... interesting implications. This movie retroactively makes her more tragic as well, as even if she didn't sacrifice Meicoomon there's a chance their partnership would have dissolved anyway - almost a complete lose-lose, there was no way for them to be happy together.

Himekawa is also retroactively more tragic as it's possible she would have been able to see Tapirmon again here - one shows up in the crowd shot!

Honestly this is the movie Himekawa deserved - she was a really interesting character that got wasted and underused in Tri, and while Menoa parallels her in a lot of ways her stoicism just isn't as interesting and Hime's decent into madness was.

I'm pretty sure Menoa doesn't say "Oh shit" but honestly I'm gonna pretend she does.

I mentioned on Twitter how Leomon doesn't die in this one because he never showed up, but there's one fighting an Eosmon in what I think is Osaka and he doesn't die, and GOOD ON HIM, HE BROKE THE CYCLE!

Omnimon having limbs sliced off got an audible gasp from me.

Matt ACTUALLY got to curse in this movie, character development!!

"Just one thing: Meow" I had to pause the movie, I lost it

Story wise, theme wise, character wise I get it, but mad Sora got screwed over in this movie. Would have been nice if 'To Sora' was included inside of the movie at least.

I still don't like Agu and Gabu's new evolutions, but they did feel really earned and a natural extension of the plot. What better way to spark an evolution than such a huge sacrifice? Izzy's perfectly timed 'prodigious' was the icing on the cake, coming at such a fitting emotional moment and possibly being the last time we'll hear it from Izzy.

When the Eosmon start disappearing all over the world there's a shot of an exhausted lone Numemon who had clearly held off the Eosmon with all the poop that is strewn about. THAT is the next story I want to see.

Unfortunately this movie is in the Tri School of Only Using Champion Level. It's actually pretty inexcusable that we we don't see WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon one more time, but even the other characters should have gone up to Ultimate if not Mega for one final sendoff. I wish we could have seen them truely fight as a team once more, even just for fanservice.

My strongest complaint with the movie itself is that it just kinda... ends. The ending is super emotional, but it just skips ahead afterwards and says 'things are going to be ok!' and ends. I would have liked to see the rest of the kids once more, seeing how they handle the fallout or how they might support Tai and Matt - or maybe a little about what Tai and Matt have taken away from this whole things. Just felt like we needed an extra couple of minutes.

Will we see these particular versions of these characters again? From what I can tell this movie did well in Japan and it’s trending pretty well on Amazon, so who knows. I hope if we do, it’s because the writers come up with an idea they really believe in and not just for the sake of a sequel. But if not, I’m definately greatful for what we have.

Binge-Reading: Fate/Stay Night VN, Fate Route Day 9

In which Shirou meets another one of the players on the field, and he finally gets a dressing-down for his most pernicious character flaw.

And thus we reach our first truly significant diversion from the UBW storyline I’m more familiar with: Shinji just up and outs himself as a master in an attempt to forge an alliance with Shirou. That’s a move I definitely wasn’t expecting, considering what a despicable slimeball this kid is. But it certainly makes my picture of him a whole lot more complicated; this route isn’t gonna let me just dismiss him as a wholesale villain. Slimeball or not, his offer is genuine, and he treats Shirou with fairness even when he’s turned down. Heck, I think this is the first time I’ve actually heard Rider speak; there’s a personality under that intimidating blindfold! There’s something Shinji wants out of this war, some wish he wants granted, but he’s not necessarily gonna take the most despicable path in order to achieve that goal. And Shirou, for his part, is smart enough not to take Shinji at his word that the barrier around the school isn’t his doing; he’s not a complete idiot, at least. Though it still really frustrates me how Shirou just does not seem to fucking process that maybe he could stand to be a little less accommodating to a guy he knows IS ABUSING HIS SISTER. YES I KNOW I KEEP HARPING ON THIS, BUT IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF. I’m almost inclined to think that Shirou wasn’t supposed to know Shinji was abusing Sakura, and that moment where it’s made clear he does was kept in by accident, because that’s really how it feels sometimes. Otherwise, I cannot fathom how a guy established to be this over-protective of girls would somehow overlook that kind of behavior.

FUCKING FINALLY

But speaking of Shirou’s attitudes towards women, HE WAS FINALLY CHALLENGED ON THEM! HOLY SHIT! Christ, do you know how long I’ve been waiting for Saber to finally snap and chew him out for treating her like a damsel instead of a warrior? For her to finally put her foot down and rip apart his contradictory attitudes towards fighting? IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME. It’s about damn time someone finally stepped up and slapped Shirou in the face with some cold, hard reality. Listen, I love the man, but every single moment he spends fretting that Saber should “be more docile” makes me further regret ever tainting my image of him by starting this VN in the first place. Shirou isn’t a bad person, but this was a reality check he desperately needed. Yes, it sucks that he’s still so weak that others have to put themselves in harm’s way to fight for his sake, but patronizing sexism isn’t going to make them trust him any more. He needs to get better, because as Saber rightly points out, a shield prepared by him is no better than paper at this point. If he wants Saber to trust him to fight for her, he needs to trust her in turn to fight for him, until he’s strong enough to assist her in the same way.

There’s actually an interesting sort of parallel drawn between Saber and Shirou; Saber herself is kind of self-sacrificing to a fault. The reason she disobeys his orders and heads out to fight Assassin is because she doesn’t want to risk his life any more than he hers. There’s a great moment in their argument where Shirou tries to talk her out of going by bringing up the fact that he’s come close to death so many times over the course of their previous battles and doesn’t want to take any risks he can’t afford, and it’s the only tactic that really manages to shake her: ”Bringing that up is unfair, Shirou.” She doesn’t see herself as human, so she’s totally fine breaking her own body against the rocks if it means getting closer to their shared goal, but a mere human like Shirou? Never mind her master? She wouldn’t dare dream of putting him in similar danger. They both see it as their duty to keep the other one safe, and as Rin points out, it’s because they value the other more than they do themselves. In Saber’s case, it’s because she’s literally a summoned tool who doesn’t even regard herself as human, but in Shirou’s case, it’s because he really just sucks that much at caring for himself. He’s got a martyr complex a mile wide; he would sacrifice anything and everything for the sake of helping someone he cares for. But now, that desire is butting heads with someone who’s literal reason for existing is to prioritize his needs over her own, and what’s more, she’s actually strong enough to justify why she should be the protector in their relationship. And Shirou just can’t fucking deal with someone else sacrificing for him that way again... not after seeing everyone else go up in flames around him while he somehow made it out alive. Small wonder he ends up lashing out in such broken, caustic ways. But if he’s gonna be the hero he wants to be, he’s gonna have to learn how to lean on people for support and let them take the blows he isn’t strong enough to, girls or otherwise. Here’s hoping he can get that through his skull before too much longer.

Opinions I’ll Probably get Stoned For: Bleach Edition

Well, it’s time for the second one of these. Today, we’re talking about a series I made a small splash talking about last year around this time. 

Let’s go! 

Look, we’re all obviously entitled to our own opinions, but I’m worried by the fact that so many people didn’t even consider IH to be possible.

I understand the reasoning behind Neliel’s “younger” form, but it feels wrong for me to say “Neliel is my waifu” because of her “younger” form.

Speaking of Nel, I don’t know what happened to her and Grimmjow and I’m too afraid to ask at this point.

Fullbring was a good arc. I don’t even understand why this arc gets so much hate.

I haven’t seen the anime but, from what I’ve heard, this isn’t a bad thing.

Ulquihime was a mistake. I don’t feel even slightly sorry about saying that.

I’ve said this before, but if I got into Bleach about a year earlier than when I got into Fairy Tail, this would likely be a Bleach blog.

I don’t know how the Ichika/Kazui relationship would go past chapter 686. Part of me wonders how similar to Burn the Witch it would be.

WSJ and Shueisha should have given Kubo at least a few more chapters to tie up a couple of loose ends. I love the ending, but I’d like more Bleach.

The parallels between IR and NS make sense for the most part, but at least Naruto canonically liked Sakura.

 I never cared about the “she dried his rain” comment when I read the series on my own.

I like that the weapons of the groups were themed around languages (Japanese, Spanish, English, and German).

Part of me wishes that Kubo leaned into the music imagery more than he did. Part of me wonders how similar it would be to Rave Master if he did, especially coming out two years later.

I don’t like Asterisk as a song. The visuals are great though, taking cues from the manga volumes.

Masaki Kurosaki is my waifu. 

We only needed one chapter in between 684 and 685 to make the series better. Consider I say this and think of Bleach as an 8/10.

Anyone who says “Bleach wasn’t about anything” does not deserve to have their opinions on Bleach taken seriously.

I don’t hate IR. I know that sounds weird given my post from last year, but I don’t have much bad to say about the ship.

I would ship Uryu with Orihime if I thought Uryu liked Orihime even close to that way.  

I pray that I never find myself in any fandom with anything like IR shippers. Fairy Tail almost doesn’t count considering I haven’t seen fans destroying merch yet.

Bleach is my favorite of the Big 3. And if Fairy Tail counts as part of a supposed Big 4, it’s also my favorite among that group too.

Manga the Week of 10/6/21

SEAN: October! Time for scary manga!

ASH: Ooooooo!

MICHELLE: Scary manga and super creeps?

SEAN: Airship has, in print, Monster Musume The Novel – Monster Girls on the Job!, a spinoff of the popular monster girl manga series.

We also get an early digital release for Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter 3.

Dark Horse has the 7th Gantz omnibus.

Denpa gives us a 4th volume of Pleasure & Corruption.

Ghost Ship debuts Do You Like Big Girls? (Ookii Onnanoko wa Daisuki Desu ka?), a series that runs in Takeshobo’s Kissca, and combines ‘volleyball manga’ and ‘borderline porn’… well, OK, the porn is like 5/6 of it, the volleyball 1/6. But at least it’s all consensual, that’s a plus.

ASH: That is a plus!

SEAN: Also from Ghost Ship is SUPER HXEROS 4. This actually jumped from Seven Seas’ main label to Ghost Ship before the last volume, so presumably the sexual content also bumped up.

ASH: Sometimes you don’t know where a series is going to go until it goes there.

SEAN: J-Novel Club has lots of stuff, including 3 titles that should have been on last week’s list, apologies, the month change confused me. J-Novel Pulp’s John Sinclair: Demon Hunter 4, The Magician Who Rose From Failure 3, and Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire 2.

As for actual next week stuff, for manga there’s Der Werwolf 3 and Marginal Operation 9.

SEAN: DUNGEON DIVE: Aim for the Deepest Level (Isekai Meikyuu no Saishinbu o Mezasou) is an isekai manga from Overlap’s Comic Gardo. Based on an (unlicensed) light novel, its premise is the same as any other manga with ‘isekai’ and ‘dungeon’ in the title.

Headhunted to Another World: From Salaryman to Big Four! (Salaryman ga Isekai ni Ittara Shitennou ni Natta Hanashi) is an isekai manga from Overlap’s Comic Gardo. Not based on a light novel, it has a salaryman summoned by the demon lord to keep her minions in line. This seems like a comedy.

Hitomi-chan is Shy With Strangers (Hitomi-chan wa Hito Mishiri) is NOT an isekai manga from Comic Gardo. This runs in Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross, and seems to be their attempt to do Komi Can’t Communicate with the serial numbers filed off.

Time Stop Hero (Jikan Teishi Yuusha – Yomei 3-ka no Settei ja Sekai o Sukuu ni wa Mijika Sugiru) is an isekai manga from Kodansha’s Shonen Sirius, which seems to combine the subtleties of isekai series with the sensitive and caring aspects of the 1982 sex comedy “Zapped!” starring Scott Baio.

Sakura Clear card Predictions

So i havent read the manga so if its like in ther then guess what i dont know. but here are my predictions. So it’s pretty obvious that Akiho(the little grey haired girl) is a magic wielder like Sakura and Eriol. ther is TON of parallelism between them. First we have the magic guardians who work alongside the magic wielder (wizards? witches?). Eriol has Spinel and Ruby Moon, Sakura has Kero and Yue. It’s pretty obvious that Akiho's lil bunny momo and her butler kaito are hers. next is magical books. Eriol is supposed to be this like reincarnation of the sorcerer clow so like he had the clow book and clow cards until sakura went and captured them. she now has he book of sakrua and the sakura. I the most  recent episode Akihito showed the girls a book that had a clock pattern on it similar to the one sakura has been seeing but also is similar in style to the shape and symmetry style to the clow and sakura book and cards. 

So my theory

well, i think that Akiho is, like Eriol, the reincarnation of someone. The reason for this is because there a lot of symbols for this. she lives on her own with just her servent person much like Eriol did and she transferred from overseas and also almost immediatly sakura was attracted to her. all of these are very similar to when Eriol moved there. Plus she is literlly living in the same house if not to be too on the nose. but who is she a incarnation of? i think her hair color and style says it all. i think that she is a reincarnation of Sakura’s mother. it would explain their instant connection and why only sakura can sense the cards. It would also explain why Sakuras mother is prominently shown in the opening. Also Kaito in japanese means meeting or reunion and his first name is Yuna D. which sounds a lot like unity. like sakura is reuniting with her mother. its a bit of a stretch but ay.

I’m not sure about how much Akiho knows. I want to say that she knows momo is alive but she isn’t aware of her power. I think that the “Alice in clockland” is her card book but that the reason it’s in such a strange language is because she either hasn’t or is unable to unlock her power on her own. She’s been slowly “figuring it out” as Sakura gathers more clear cards because as she gathers them it unlocks more and more of Akiho power. thus explaining the scene where the new key is being pulled away from Sakura toward the hooded figure. this is why the hooded figure is seen taking the key power now that Sakura has fully unlocked and sealed all the cards. But is the hooded figure Akiho? partly yes. I think that like it’s her unconscious power manifesting itself and using sakura to do all the dirty work so that it can be unlocked fully. 

what i havent figured out:

what Eriol and Syoaran know. because they obviously know something but like what. part of me thinks that they know all of the above but they know that sakura has to do it on her own and make a difficult choice that only she can make. Probably something like if you choose to capture the clear cards and give them to Akiho then you’ll never be able to use your magic again but like if you don’t she’ll die because your mother’s spirit inside her needs the magic to stay tethered to the body or some shit. which now that I think about it would explain what sakura meant in the Tsubassa reservoir chronicles when she gives the old staff to the other sakura because she doesn't use it anymore. but that could also just be referring to the fact that she uses the new crystal wand.

or they know some shit but like not a lot. and they’re just being uber cautios.

another thing to consider is the third person who is human but knows everything. for Eriol it’s  Kaho Mizuki and for Sakura its her big brother tomoyo. If there is this third human person who is older and knows about the magic stuff for Akiho, they could be like the puppet master and shit.

The reason I actually liked Kisame and Itachi is because they actually got along, especially in comparison to Orochimaru and his cronies. But fuck, the rest of the Akatsuki are just a bunch of assholes.

How is a change in chakra nature supposed to make the Rasengan stronger? The Chidori is both a change in form and nature but the Rasengan was more powerful (at least in Part 1 before all of Kishimoto's shitty retcons).

So from what I heard about Team Minato, I still think it's bull that Kakashi even knows the Rasengan. I think it would have made more sense if Obito, the obvious Naruto parallel, was able to learn the Rasengan through hard work but Kakashi the apathetic genius couldn't get it as easily as he got everything else, so instead he created the Chidori, something he could get easier. But to be fair, knowing the Chidori and the Rasengan and wielding the Sharingan helps with the whole image of being likely the most versatile ninja in the world, especially since Kakashi really hasn't been living up to his hype.

Are you really going to teach Naruto to create a new Rasengan before he's even mastered the normal fucking version?

I don't really get how a Rasengan with a change in chakra nature is considered unachievable? I mean, that's basically the Chidori.

How the fuck did Kakashi and Tsunade just know to be at that specific place at that specific time? Wouldn't it have made more sense if Tsunade had brought Kakashi along in case they refused to back down? Its just stupidly convenient that the both of them just happened to know that Team 10 would be there at that specific time.

And why the fuck is Kakashi willing to go on this mission!? He tied Sasuke down to a fucking tree just to give him a speech on the futility of revenge, but he's perfectly willing to let Shikamaru go after revenge, even willing to help him? That's fucking bullshit. And yet another instance of Kishi going out of his way to make things go well for Shikamaru, even when all sense would point to everything going wrong for him.

And why not just bring Naruto instead of Kakashi? It's been established that Naruto is closer to Shikamaru than he is to others and he just mastered a new powerful jutsu. Plus you don't have to mess up his character to bring him along the way you have to with Kakashi.

Better yet, why didn't Kishimoto choose Kurenai instead of Kakashi? (the answer to this question is: sexism) At least then it would make sense for her to want revenge. Plus Naruto could continue training with Kakashi and maybe Team 8 could come in as back-up instead of Team 7. Give them some fucking focus.

Also, once again, Tsunade's characterisation has fucking sucked in Part 2. She used to be a very enjoyable character, now she's just an asshole who runs around shouting at people, letting everyone do whatever the fuck they want, and going on about how she believes in Naruto. I'm also sick of how everyone disrespects her, nobody acted this way towards Sarutobi.

And Hidan seems to be the weakest, outside of Zetsu and Tobi who we haven't seen in action yet.

Well this new animation style is much more appealing, only problem is a lack of facial consistency.

Seeing Hidan so chill is honestly unsettling me. He looks like me after I've failed an exam. Motherfucker just looks dead inside.

I don't get it. Was Hidan's jutsu connected to Shikamaru or Kakuzu? And if it was connected to Shikamaru, why isn't he finally fucking dead!?

So if it was Kakuzu connected to the jutsu, then what was that bullshit with Shikamaru about "not being deep enough"?

This may be the only time Shikamaru has actually been smart, although I still hate the whole masterplan-that-we-had-no-idea-about-being-revealed-at-the-end trope. It occasionally works with villains, but not with heroes. The protagonists shouldn't be misleading their own audience and in most cases it just feels like an asspull.

How the hell does Wind Style: Rasenshuriken befit the Nine-Tailed Fox, Kakuzu?

When I heard about the Rasenshuriken, I imagined Naruto changing the shape of the Rasengan, making it thinner but wider and spinning at speeds high enough to slash through things. I imagined it being his own unique creation, a long-range Rasengan that could be thrown. Which would allow him to cover his bases and make up for his weakness when at long distance. But nope, it's just the Rasengan but bigger. Which is redundant considering he already has the Giant Rasengan.

And of course, Naruto fucked up again. Can you do anything right?

The Frollo Effect

A guy falls in love with a girl he is suppose to reject, repulse or dehumanize, and fights against it. By trying to suppress it, her converts love into hatred against her and himself, and probably punishes both hoping it will make the feeling go away. It does not work and the guy starts doing things he never thought he was capable of in order to deal with this unbearable need. He is usually proud, rational and very in control of himself until she comes along. Her initial dismissal as a suitor commonly starts out as social expectation - in which the characters are from divergent social segments and ideologically separated -, but it’s always a expectation the guy has over himself, regardless if anyone else imposes this on him.

Examples: Esmeralda x Frollo (Gypsy and priest), Amon x Helen (Jew and nazi), Isaura x Leôncio (Slave and master), Daisy x Ram (Sister and brother), William x Dolores (Host and guest) and Hap x Prairie (Subject and scientist)

Bonding undercover

When the bad guy pretends to be a normal person long enough to befriend the good girl and make her fall in love with him. This is usually how tragically two-sided vxh happens, because she gets to know his other side before the bad one gets in the way, but they can still have a happy ending because it also establishes they could have the base for a healthy relationship if only he could abandon his malicious quest. This only happens when the girl develops deeply romantic feelings for him; if it's only a crush or devilish attraction (Red Eye, The OA and Agents of SHIELD) than it doesn't count. She must be sobbing on the floor when this is done. May also involve an amnesia period in which the antagonist approaches the hero as an old friend or a lover.

Generation Parallel

A love story doesn’t end up well. Years later another generation repeats the first one in a slightly different manner. Most of the time, the parallel between the two affairs means the characters from the first one have the chance to develop as we wished they would, and that their love might have grown roots under a different field. Sometimes it just means shit happens no matter the circumstances, and that people will make the same mistakes of their elderlies despite that they should have known better by now. If we are talking about the first generation’s offspring (Incest not necessarily included), it might mean their love is on their DNA and they would fall over and over again under different names and places. In any case, this trope is the romantic side of History Repeats Itself.

Very common theme in incest, because their birth requires a previous affair between their parents, but it only counts if it is a story on its own, full of ups and downs, and people talk about it. If it’s not mentioned or important to the plot, there is no point in calling it Generation Parallel.

Roaring Rampage of Romance

Love that starts a war and the main plot. Characters that destroy cities and galaxies because Love Made Them Evil, because they are trying to be with whom they love or to secure their safety and happiness. It might be on purpose, in which they have foreseen the consequences but choose to take them anyway as a means to an end, or it was accidental. There may be decades of conflict and the count of a hundred corpses, or maybe a famous massacre with a handful dead extras. Maybe a murderer is hunting down everyone on an Island so that he can be alone with his beloved. Anyway, innocent people that had nothing to do with them nor interfered with the couple’s happiness will suffer the collateral damage.

Common trope among royalty, since marrying or bearing the children of someone you were not supposed to could have disastrous consequences to the State, still people would do it for love.

If the character is causing the rampage in search for something else, like power, and to secure his beloved is an incidental bonus, it isn’t considered Roaring Rampage of Romance, unless he is doing it because Love Has Made Him Evil. Alina/Darkling and Nuada/Nuala, for instance, don’t fit this category.

Fake Fic for the girls of DOS 'Nevertheless, She Persisted"

Nevertheless, She Persisted

There is no easy path to becoming a kunoichi; no open doors or vacant spots.

Or, how every woman creates her place.

So this would, obviously, be character studies for the ladies of DoS (or, even just canon Naruto seeing as how poorly treated they are) and their struggles to become the women and kunoichi that they are.

Unsure if I’d just stick to the Konoha Thirteen ladies or include some of the adults. But seeing as how I’m probably not going to write it anyway, I guess I might as well go into what I’d write for all of them.

So Tsunade, Yoshino, Kurenai, Anko, TenTen, Sakura, Ino, Hinata, Shikako? Maybe not Shikako. DoS is already from her POV and we already see her struggles so…

For Tsunade I’d probably go in depth about how she was the first combat medic. How, when she began studying medicine, everyone was kind of relieved? That the princess would be staying behind and healing in the village. Except, no… this princess wants to go out on the field. This princess wants to be on the front lines. She’s going to punch everything.

I wonder if Mokuton is actually a bloodline or a Hashirama-unique ability. Because if it is a bloodline, then Tsunade not having it would add to the whole–oh no, just stay in the village, you’re not as powerful as your grandfather–and her literally creating a super strength technique is a rebellion against that.

Yoshino… well… I suppose all my feels for Yoshino are in my Stars Also Dream series (never mind that it’s a Star Wars fusion/crossover) though otherwise as a non-clan kunoichi there’d be a lot of overlap with TenTen and Sakura’s stories.

Kurenai… there’s something to be said about a kunoichi who is so completely the typical kunoichi but still becomes a jounin. And, don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of love for women who defy gender norms and this applies to kunoichi as well. But there’s part of me that’s viciously pleased to see a woman excel not despite but through the gender norms. And I suppose this might apply to Shizune, too what with the poisons and barrier seals and all.

The difference between special jounin and jounin doesn’t seem like much, but I imagine for Kurenai it was huge. I have the feeling that she might have fallen into that trap that Shikako side-stepped. Genjutsu was her specialty and so she accepted a promotion to special jounin because of it early on (it explains why she’s only recently become a jounin even though she became a chuunin at fourteen I think?). And then she had to become even more of a master of genjutsu in order to make that leap between ranks. And it may very well have been something that people told her to give up on. Or tried to “help” her by telling her to expand her repertoire–essentially mimic Tsunade and get a combat specific talent to complement her genjutsu–but that’s not who Kurenai is. Of course she can fight, but she’s not going to stray from who she is just for a promotion.

Anko’s would be very much so a post-Orochimaru thing for her. She’s trying to be a good and loyal Konoha soldier but no one fucking trusts her anymore. No one wants her on their team, no one wants her for their mission, for a long time she can’t handle classified information. She can’t do shit. But of course she’s going to still try. Of course she is. If she gives up, if she defects, then that bastard wins. It doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks of her, she’s Anko Mitarashi, certified badass, she doesn’t need anyone else’s approval but her own.

I have a lot of TenTen feels but I don’t know if they’re cliche or not for a TenTen character study. It’s a lot about how she’s clawing her way up. Her pinpoint accuracy isn’t a natural talent, not a bloodline. It’s something she worked hard at. It’s something she suffered calluses for, scrapes and cuts and nicks. TenTen was running errands for the blacksmith and learning about different alloys alongside furtive, hesitant attempts to memorize flower types and their meanings. The girls were taught calligraphy to better go undercover and blend in with nobility, but TenTen forced herself to choke it down because it would help with fuinjutsu. She’s not good at the typical feminine arts, no matter how much she tries she’ll never be the next Tsunade, but she can be the first TenTen.

DoS Sakura is definitely different from canon Sakura so a character study of her would be different, too. But it’s still hard to shake the Tsunade parallels–I mean, they exist in DoS still as well so–especially since she’s a medic in training who wants to one day be a field medic and is learning a super strength technique to do so.

DoS Ino I would do post Sasuke Retrieval arc because I have a feeling that her being so adamant about Shikamaru not quitting as a shinobi might be a parallel to him doing the same for her. I think, maybe, Inoichi and the other Yamanaka clan members probably meant well? When they said she didn’t have to be a shinobi anymore. That she could retire. That after such a traumatic experience, it’d be understandable. And she was, maybe, considering it. If Orochimaru was influencing her, he’d want her to get stronger. Want her to insinuate herself even further into Konoha. Turn her into a sleeper cell. Retiring would mean she’s not a risk to her village. But retiring would also mean giving up, giving in, and she won’t let Team Ten go on without her.

Aaaand Hinata… it’s gotta be about her clan. Her awful, terrible clan. Man they’re the worst. THE WOOOOOORST. I mean… do I even need to write what this would be about? This is basically canon Hinata’s character arc (or what isn’t built around Naruto, anyway).

I guess I could add Shizune and Yakumo… but I don’t really know enough about either of them?

Issei closed the door behind them. He had a girl that wasn’t his mom in his room! A pretty girl! Achievement get! He hoped she wouldn’t look much at his posters and books, because those could be suspicious, yeah, but fortunately all of his porn was carefully hidden away!

That said, “what was that back there? You hypnotized my parents right? Not that I’m complaining!” He hurried to add. “It would have been troublesome if we had to explain all of… this.” Her mother’s eyes had been ready to bug out of her skull at the sight of him. Fortunately, Sakura had stepped forward before he could lamely try to convince her he’d decided to bleach his hair… and throw half his clothes in the trash.

They’d already had to avoid people on their way here, considering their appearances. They hadn’t managed to change his clothes back. It turned out his clothing was part of his ‘manifestation’ and he could de-materialize it at will. It also turned out to be his original clothes modified, leaving him naked without them. That had been awkward. Sakura hadn’t been bothered, but Issei was surprisingly a bit of a blushing virgin.

And Sakura’s dress was apparently also made of shadow-stuff which, e-hem, merited some thoughts…

Sakura’s voice interrupted him just in time. “That was a spell to manipulate memory. It’s one of the few I know well.” Zouken had at least taught her the very basics of basics, and while not simple, it was imperative a magus know how to conceal their existence. Since Sakura would not resort to killing, memory manipulation had been taught to her.

“Nice. That sounds super useful.” Issei said as he sat on the ground with her. He figured magic was secret, or at least, they should probably keep the circumstances of his change secret. “We’re going to have to find an excuse for this tho. You can’t change the memories of everybody at school right? I was thinking of telling people I bleached by hair but these tattoos are a bit more difficult….” He rubbed at the scale pattern on his left wrist. It wasn’t very big, but it was noticeable enough. Maybe he could cover it up with some medical tape?

“There’s also your eyes,” pointed out Sakura.

“My eyes?” He turned and grabbed his clock, angling it to catch his reflection in the glass. Yellow eyes widened. “Whoa! Yeah. Hmmm, contact? Oh hell, I’m going to look like such a chuuni….” A pervert chuuni. He could feel his chance with the ladies shrinking and shrinking.

“Sorry.”

“It’s fine.” He sighed dejectedly. Although… “what about you? How are we going to explain you?”

I’m Hyoudou Issei, a second-year at Kuoh Academy. I’ve always lived here in Kuoh City, which is in Japan, Earth. Matou-san… you’re Japanese too? I just assumed…”

“Yes. This world seems more like a parallel Earth. I can’t tell what exactly the differences are, but the man who sent me here implied our worlds have very different stories.”

“I see. Well, I’ve had a pretty normal life until last week. The only thing that’s different about me is that I… uh… I’m a bit of a pervy guy? I can acknowledge my love for girl and boobs! Boobs are the best! I want to touch some! Please don’t punish me, Master!” He bowed hurriedly. Sakura finished for him. “And then she killed you.”

“Yeah.” He still couldn’t quite grasp it. Something like anger started rising in him and his hands shook. Why? He couldn’t understand anything. “Yuuma-chan… Yuuma-chan said I should blame God for… something sacred and then she flew away. That’s when you found me. I don’t remember much more.”
