The Castlevania: Nocturne discourse is stupid

It’s not that Castlevania Nocturne is a perfect show. Not by any means. It has a lot to criticize.

But it also has a lot to praise and grapples with historical AND still relevant issues unapologetically in a way you rarely see in media.

And yet discourse has been so, so stupid.

Why are there gays?

People angry about gay characters, as if vampires aren’t inherently gay as hell. Look at them! Do vampires scream “tough, gender conforming dude bros”? Or Christian good boys?

No! They’ve always been gender bending, rich and bitchy little deviants who will fuck and eat anything.

Annette bad!

People upset a black lady character exists and is allowed to be angry after having escaped literal chattel slavery.

Even though she isn’t some pandering palette swap, she is organically relevant to a story set in the French Revolution dealing with themes of oppression and class.

Richter is a weak soy boy bitch! The downfall of masculinity! Other fragile bullshit!

People upset our protagonist man has realistic PTSD from watching his mother be violently killed right in front of him as a small child.

He represses himself, goes with the flow, and doesn’t lead for himself. Still he is brave and skilled until he is triggered and set on a path to rediscover his agency and true potential. A story of overcoming not with physical strength alone, but with spiritual and mental strength as well.

What do they call such a fleshed our character?

In conclusion…

Nocturne’s pacing is whack and the 3D animation can be choppy at times, which is all the more jarring when the animation gets smooth and gorgeous. Almost as if they’re skimping out on some of those other scenes to save budget for the big set pieces.

Still worth the watch.

There’s an Aztec vampire that can turn into a giant feathered snake and is generally against all factions and just wants to live his best life and I never thought my werewolf-named self would relate to a vampire of all things, but I love him.

So, first, you’re Latino. Duh.

You’re a civilian that was lucky enough to meet Valeria.

You two probably met while getting coffee. You thought she looked pretty, so you complimented her.

She was a little confused why a random person just complimented her hair. She still liked it, nonetheless.

You went back to the cafe, since it was your regular spot to just hang out to read a book. You were familiar with most of the employees.

You didn’t know if you should just go up to her and apologized while making yourself look even more stupid, or just sit there.

She just SUDDENLY SAT DOWN IN FRONT OF YOU AND YOUR MIND WENT INTO PANIC MODE.

She just chuckled and said hi back.

And that’s how your closest friendship bloomed.

Since you’re younger than her, it’s most likely your humor is pretty deranged.

You’ll send her random pictures of god knows what, and say hi right after.

But she makes it up by hanging out with you for a while, specifically drinking.

On a similar note, you invite her over to have a few drinks with her. Just chill.

When you drink, you become more jokeful and just insane overall.

“Haha, kinda wanna kill myself. Anyways, how’s your day?”

Sometimes concerned with your humor. Can’t tell if it’s just how Gen Z humor is or if you’re that mentally I’ll.

And whenever you two drink together, you guys turn into those Latina moms that will go insane at parties. (I have a good amount of experience with this as a Latino myself.)

Dancing together, blasting music, it’s entertaining.

You also end up talking about chisme.

“Did you hear that my neighbors just got a divorce?”

“Dime más.”

And whenever she goes to your house, she always has a gift. Especially an expensive one.

It can be from some good wine, to straight up clothes and perfumes.

There is so much going on this week.... much to interest us!!!

It is time for stage two of the university entrance process... and we meet someone new.

Tadano??? 👀👀👀 A cousin? A coincidence? To me this is a fascinating plot twist. She's like boy-Tadano; she introduces herself as ordinary, and on the train she let's an old man have her seat. Everyone does that, sure, but it's very Tadano for it to be specifically shown to us. Who is this mysterious girl???

Tangent - Oda has said in an interview that Komi was originally going to be a boy, but his editor suggested making the character a girl instead (he doesn't elaborate on this). One doesn't imagine that Oda would have made the manga a yaoi (although that would have been awesome); so if Komi had been a boy, that would have made Tadano a girl. This is pertinent in that I am now imagining Maruko as boy-Tadano's alternate reality counterpart.

I wonder if she's ever been to Cairns (Cairns is a popular Australian holiday destination for Japanese tourists. It's in the far north and has many attractions, making it a more affordable and accessible holiday spot than places such as Sydney. Fuck Sydney. No one likes Sydney.)

What do you think is the tastiest condiment for a friend egg? I don't eat fried eggs often because I don't like eggs enough to cook them for myself, so I'm not well-versed in appropriate egg condiments. And that's it for this week!!! We are left with a cliffhanger; the group discussion was getting heated and then Komi came in with a total curve ball. I'm pleased to see more of Komi's university entrance process, and so far it's been fun! The new characters are interesting; especially girl-Tadano (for the reason of her name). The triplets are fun, and I'm not sure what to make of Egypt at the moment. I am most curious to see how it continues next week!

He used to fake having a friendly and kind facade with a someone (Yuuta) but expect Gojo and also importantly you, he really enjoyed your presence, there was something special about you that he couldn’t quite get a good hold off in til a little later, he enjoys how opinionated and honest you were, there were so many things about you that Geto really liked about you.

there is hardly anything extraordinarily charming about fushiguro tōji — a man clad in black, licking the soy sauce from the edge of his mouth and stretching his spine with an overwhelmingly mannerless attitude. however, it's raw simplicity that serves him as a signature trait, primal enough to leave a mark and tickle a fancy. it's the determination that seems nearly effortless despite the years of spite behind it. those hands clawed their own way out and you might as well be able to taste that strength on your tongue. it's inspiring, really. individualism links you.

tōji can appreciate a little push in a right direction, even if he has a scowl on his face about it. be blunt, speak your mind; he is not the type to admire delusions. there is a sense of honesty between the two of you; an unvarnished dose of trust so sweetly sprinkled by your optimism. it's the solid ground. it's the transparency. and you don't make it dull and boring; you make it comfortable.

the road is a little rocky, yes. two strong characters can be nearly impudent to one another; boldness makes one grind the teeth and clench the jaw. it's easy to profane the other. but, there is a thick silver lining worth holding onto. things fall into place, almost as naturally as breathing. it's worth it; it comes with an odd sense of peace. the calm after a storm; thrilling but steady.

although a little rough around the edges, tōji is nonetheless capable of a hearty commitment. he comes off as frigid, but such a broad chest has plenty of warmth. his character requires a firm fist but also a generous amount of patience; have a dose of empathy on reserve and you've got yourself a rock to lean against. a hand in your hair at night, whispers that you've done a good job. tōji does not believe in empty words, so his praise, compliments and sweet-nothings stem from utter sincerity. heh, you're too cool.

oh, and he loves the cute-sque attributes so neatly splattered across your features. he adores them. you may be firm and bold, but you're a doll; you're a dear. it's a promise; he will ruffle your feathers here and there, guide his hand through your hair to wisp it all the more. you can't do much about it. just keep being so damn adorable whilst passion drips from your mouth and into his ears. his eyes might just soften a little bit.

I have another wooden carved figure of “see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil” in the form of the three 🙈 🙊🙉 monkeys that my late grandmother had at her office for many years. I have a Peruvian fertility statue that I got from my late Great Uncle who was world traveler and artist.

48. What is a hobby you’d like to take up? I’d love to get a shop set up and work with either metal smithing or making resin art, maybe even metal restoration. Don’t know that I have any skill for any of it but it looks interesting and fun.

Yes, I am not dead! I finally managed to draw something after ages. Gotta say sorry:i had to take care of my health. I had a surgery in November and been recovering from it since. Ages: Unknown. She’s considered in her early twenties among her kind, but has existed far longer in human years.

Shizuka is a curious and friendly young woman. Still learning about the world outside her waters, she can easily be tricked and is somewhat of an airhead at times. Being type:

Shizuka is a water spirit. She was born a long time ago but remainded asleep for the majority of her existence, up until the Soul eater trio’s arrival. As a water spirit, she can control the surrounding water. She can also change the temperature, color and scent of the water at will. If she is sad, the water tends to rise. She can also feel if someone falls into her waters and is in danger of drowning. Outside her own waters, her powers only consist of her water bending. She also has to take some of the water with her if she wants to travel.

Role:

To learn more about the people and world outside her waters, she started to work as a staff member of the Murasaki Bathhouse. She is often tasked with serving tea and sweets, as well as to change the water color or scent for special guests or occasions.

Fun facts:

As typical for her kind as a lot of spirit beings, physical appearance ages slower than humans.

She loves sweets and in her spare time she is often trying to make some herself. Sometimes her attempts fail though

She is very good at sculpting figurines out of sugar, though.

The water drop obi brooch was a gift from Kiryo, and she treasures it a lot.

When she learns something new, she tends to tell everyone about it.

She refers to Kouka as mistress, and Kiryo & Kuromoya as master

Yago is referred to as young master.

She loves koifish and goldfish.

Her favorite food is Unadon (It consists of a donburi type large bowl filled with steamed white rice, and topped with fillets of eel (unagi) grilled in a style known as kabayaki, similar to teriyaki. The fillets are glazed with a sweetened soy-based sauce, called tare and caramelized, preferably over charcoal fire.)

Her favorite dessert is strawberry daifuku

She thinks Yago smells like strawberries and likes the scent a lot.

Her hair as in the end of it has a wave like design.

She has sea foam green hair

I gave her sea foam green hair because many hot springs have like this beautiful green water.

I gave her big eyes to make her look more curious and young.

i don’t usually stray too far from my comfort zone and like try new things

but yesterday and today, i felt a bit more...productive? grounded? i dunno, a little different than usual. i actually opened the curtain and EVEN opened the actual window

literally for the first time since i moved in here almost 2 years ago

(rambling about food and trying new things under the cut)

so today i was feeling a bit antsy and snacky and was contemplating yet another round of mcdonalds when i found myself scrolling through uber eats...

i got paid (not a lot) but my mom helped me out last month so i had a bit extra money and decided to try something else that looked yummy

i wound up looking at korean food and i dont really eat korean food so i dont really know what anything was and also its all in japanese so i just picked out some keywords

but after a lot of scrolling back and forth, i finally took the leap and ordered not one, not two, not three, but four new things! (im counting the drink as new too...)

i was nervous it would be too spicy or i just wouldnt like it and i had wasted my money, but i literally remembered when txt taehyun said that he used to be scared of change so you should start with little things like trying a new type of ramen and that eventually the body remembers that not all change is bad, so i figured if i didnt like it, i would know for the future and i could have some bonus chocolate to soothe the sting and if i didnt like it then there’d be no problem

well, i have just finished eating everything (and it was a lot) and...it was amazing!???

im about to mutilate these romanizations, but i dont really know how to english korean words (im familiar with some, but now many) and also now ive only seen them in katakana so...not the best way to work but ah well

anyways, i got...pork and potato kimchi sundubo (スンドゥブ), cheese tteobokki (トッポギ), hotteok (ホットク), and corn silk tea? sorry again for possibly mangling those, i ate a lot and now im too tired to do anything. xD

my least favorite was probably the hotteok, but the more i ate it, the yummier it got. i guess im neutral on it. it reminded me of a lot of different anko sweets that i dont like on the first bite but by the end im like hmmm not awful actually

i literally got the tteobokki because of that adorable clip of txt taehyun pointing to the menu saying cheese tteobokki and honestly, i get it, it was fucking amazing

the sundubo (??? wtf is thisss??) was also seriously good. it had more tofu than i was expecting, which was my bad, all the descriptions raved about the shops in-house tofu and the tofu is probably one of the main points of the dish, like i said, i didnt really read too much. im not really a tofu person, but it tasted really good in the soup and with the potato and meat. i know im allergic to soy, but i think tofu is processed enough that it doesnt give me issues, i’ve just never found a way to eat it that makes me want to eat it more xD

and lastly the corn silk tea. opened the bottle, smells like my favorite corn chips, took  a sip, tastes like my favorite corn chips but liquid form. 10/10, would drink again!

i started watching All of Us Are Dead to get myself fully in the korean mood and....wow. i really pulled off a successful night! ♡

oh, i just realized the shop name literally has tofu in it xD reading comprehension 0! xD

but yeah, im really happy i convinced myself to try something new. it was a bit pricier than i usually do for delivery but i dont regret it. now im gonna finish the first episode (i didnt realize it was like actually an hour, not “an hour” aka 44 minutes) so i still have like 15 minutes to go

At the end of last month, I took my family trip for Fukuoka and Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki.

At first, I got on bullet train with having bought Ekiben and the ice cream; which is very hard to melt.

After arriving at Hakata, we went to the Japanese restaurant named 割烹よし田. We had sesame soy sauce soaked snapper bowl with some vegetables tempura. It was chewy and fresh hence I was enjoyed.

Actually this restaurant has existed since my mom had worked at travel agency, it must be for over 40 years.

After that, we went to Dazaifu; where is famous for Mishizane Sagawarano, who was resigned. We saw various of plum blossoms blooming, it was very beautiful and colorful. Also we had snacks called Umegaemochi; which baked by beans paste with thin mochi. I ate two shops of it; Kasannoya and Yasutake.

I prefer to Kasanoya one.

Day2, we went to Huis Ten Bosch with my grandma and my family. The purposes of going there are correcting Miffy stuff and seeing illuminations.

At there I could take a selfie with Miffy and eat at cafe collaborated with Miffy. Although my old phone had been dead when the illumination was beautifully lighting 😭 So I had to buy the new phone at next day.

Day3, we went to famous Tempura restaurant, we had shrimp and vegetables tempura instantly. Also they provided salt soaked squid, it was nice.

Day4, I’d forgotten to have morning medicine so my brain was dysfunctional but I went to the church. After that, I saw some art exhibition and early blooming sakuras around Kego shrine. After going back to hotel, I consumed lots of sugar and carbs; An butter bread, Ichigo daifuku with whip cream, Houraku Manju (like a Imagawa Yaki here) and banana bread with high brand of tea. At dinner time, I and my mom ate at popular local sushi restaurant called Hyotan Zushi. I had 活サバ, 活穴子 and grilled カマス sushi, it was so delicious!!

The end of this trip, my grandma came to see our departure at Hakata station. As I mentioned, I’d forgotten having morning medicine so certainly my appearance was more awful than usual, then she said my appearance like this; “ your eyes look like rotten fish eyes.” So I could not fathom what she said at all.

Although my grandma and mom were kind; my grandma brought me some of sliced fresh fruits and Dekopons. Also my mom bought me for souvenir by myself, 博多ぽてと and 博多プリン made by morozoff.

In fact, the way of going to Hakata by bullet train took long time since I couldn’t afford to be patient for going to smoking room there. But my mom made a fuss for me, however who cares about using smoking room laying at bullet train for using the adult woman?

Though, this trip made me reminded of good memories and experienced how important fresh fishes are around me!
