You always reminded Sunny of his sister, since both of you were really kind to everyone and also elegant.

Sunny is a person who doesn't talk a lot, like, literally, and having you to do the social interaction for him when he really isn't feeling like it makes him really grateful.

It was a bit... Refreshing having you around.

He was always with some intrusive thoughts on his head, and your presence alone made him chill more.

Sunny appreciates the fact you never forced him to talk, only stopping for a moment to see if he wants to, if he doesn't, you keep talking.

Another thing is that he loves how you never touch him without asking, it makes him more comfortable with you.

Basil liked to hang out with you the most! Ever since what had happened, you were the only person who actually went to check on him.

You always listened whenever Basil talked about his plants to you, and even offered on helping him sometimes. When you wanted to hug him, you always asked first. Which was really nice of your part. Basil really liked how elegant you were, it was so amazing! No matter how bad his day was, you were always there to comfort him without even asking for him to do the same. Though he'd feel guilty if he didn't do the same, so you two are kinda of just being sweethearts to each other!

Kel loves your energy!! He doesn't like negativity so having someone who can match his positivity is really refreshing! He seems like he would do a lot of those grimaces(that's the name? 😭). Seeing how you never really told him to stop, instead, laughing with him, made Kel really happy. Whenever he accidentally hurt himself or something, you would always help him to take care of it.

Hero was really grateful for having you there, especially after the incident. You tried your best to keep everyone together, and even if it didn't work that well, you still talked to everyone. Including him. Hero liked hanging out with you, since you were always really gentle with whatever happened. Though he was worried you might have been just trying to hide your feelings 😭 (Hero is best boy frr)

Aubrey was quite the opposite of you, and it was fun how you two managed to get so close. She would often talk to you about something bad that happened during her day because she knows you won't judge her or complain about her non stop talk. Aubrey has more of a soft spot for you, so you can expect her to actually listen when you give her advice or warn her about something. Whenever something happens to you, Aubrey will go feral to defend you, while you just stay there watching her like 🫠😍

She's more open to you than anyone else because Aubrey is sure you're not telling it to anyone.

Mari loves you so much!! And you two are also really similar so!! She's always watching you from afar, in case something happens, like someone being rude to you because Mari knows you're not going to defend yourself 😭

Always asks for your opinion on anything. Literally anything. Just so she could have another point of view, you know?

And since you're the chillest of the group, Mari prefers to ask you. Likes to go out with you to whatever place you feel like going! She trusts you so she doesn't mind what you chose.

4. they're ALWAYS together. and none of them are bothered by it!! and instead of being toxic about the need to stay close, they establish boundaries! like they have their own secrets they can't tell the others and that's totally fine! no pressure at all in their squad

5. listen these three help each other become better people!! like they bring out the best in each other and it's the most wholesome, encouraging, healthy, lovey dovey ship ever!!! like clara becomes more responsible despite her need for chaos bc she wants to make sure azz and iruma can depend on her! azz stops putting up walls and allows people to approach him because he wants to get involved in the other two's lives! and iruma learns how to set boundaries with these two where he could never say no to anyone!! like if that isn't the most awesome and perfect relationship idk what is!!!

ok listen their relationship is extremely important to the plot of the game so they get a lot of focus and a lot of the stuff they say abt each other is like????? bro thats kinda fruity ngl??????? theres like. a lot of stuff i could say about them. like a lot. too much actually

so instead ill just, idk summarize their relationship and then give some fun facts abt them

Sunny and Basil are best friends! They're shown to be very close to each other, closer than they are to the rest of their friends. They rely on each other to listen when they need to vent, and like to read books together! Before the events of the game, Sunny and Basil become involved in an incident that basically tears their friend group apart. Basil keeps the secret of their involvement from everyone because he cares too much about Sunny to let him get in trouble. They then don't talk for four years, and spend the entire time pining for each other!

Basil hopes for four years that Sunny will finally come back to him, meanwhile Sunny has retreated into a perfect dreamworld he uses to cope. All of his friends are there, and everyone is happy, and the dreamworld is full of things Basil loves. The most common food item is tofu(Basil's favorite food),  there's an entire race of plant creatures that adore tofu(Basil likes to garden + his favorite food), his garden in the dreamworld is huge and has lots of flowers that represent each of his friends! Also, an important NPC says this abt Sunny and Basil's relationship: "He is special to you. A string of fate ties you together." A string of fate you say? Hmmm, I wonder why they phrased it like that...

Also, when Sunny and Basil finally do start talking again, Basil says stuff like this: "W...Wait... P-Please, SUNNY... Don't leave me... Not again..." "After all this time... you've finally come back for me. But... tomorrow... you're going away. H-HOW COULD YOU DO THAT!?!? That's mean, SUNNY. That's so mean!" Yeah... he's not doing too well...

But don't worry! After a year or two of therapy I'm sure these two can have a happy, healthy relationship!

Obviously I have a lot more to say abt them but it's all literary analysis and context clues and stuff, I just wanted to point out the more obvious stuff!

15) unpopular opinion about the game?

the real, true ending to me is sunny and basil killing themselves. i want sunny to be happy so badly but based off where he was as you play the game, i think the guilt would get to him. he’d kill himself absolutely. and basil would too. what they did was something that’s just so impossible to deal with and you can’t really tell anybody, and just. based off how they are? they couldn’t live through it. they’d die and to me that honestly seems like a happy-ish ending for sunny. it sucks and i want him to live and be happy but at least he can see mari now :(

Top 12 Portrayals of Jacob Marley

The last two characters I’ve covered in this little marathon were the two most important human characters Scrooge encounters in “A Christmas Carol.” Of course, not all of the major characters can exactly qualify as “human” any longer. Enter Jacob Marley: Scrooge’s former friend and business partner, and the first of the phantoms he encounters in the story. While Fred and Bob Cratchit stand as opposing foils to Scrooge, Marley is something different: just like the words he utters, he, himself, acts as a warning to Ebenezer of what his ill behavior could lead to. Through Marley (and the other Tormented Spirits Scrooge sees), not only does Dickens create arguably the scariest and most unsettling scene in the original book, but he also conjures up a karmic punishment so ingenious, Lucifer himself should really take notes! Here we have a man who is forever doomed to wander around, forced to see hardship and suffering and realize he is truly no different from any other human soul. He can do nothing to help, only reflect on his mistakes, his guilt, and his inability to make amends and atone for his crimes, however direct or indirect they might have been. The only “comfort” he has are the very material objects he hoarded in his lifetime, lashed about him to ironically provide even more agony, with every link of the chains that strap them to his form acting as a reminder of a sin he can no longer redeem himself for. As harrowing as Marley’s scene is, there’s also a good deal of humor to it, given the very surreality of the whole scenario and Scrooge’s snappish personality. There’s also a hint of something deeper and sadder under it; in the book, at least, it’s revealed that Marley himself is the one who arranges the whole debacle and manages to get this whole story to get underway, and he does it because he wants to give his friend a sporting chance to escape. It’s not clear if Marley, himself, will get anything out of this, but he tries his best to help Ebenezer, which shows a great change in his character, and helps to sell the message of the story: it’s really never too late to change. It CAN, however, be too late to do anything about it if you don’t shape up in time. Redemption and forgiveness are two sides of the same coin, and Marley is a prime example of that: he sees the error of his ways, but it no longer matters. That is the tragedy of the whole situation. This is yet another character I’ve played, and I’d love the chance to do so again. (Annoying as the costume requirements may be.) With so many versions of the Carol, Marley has been played a lot of different ways: some make him more frightening, others more human, and some even make him a more comical figure. All of them are fairly solid and viable options, if handled right. With that said, here are My Top 12 Favorite Portrayals of Jacob Marley!

Dumping some OMORI he's! First up, Sunny!

- Sunny is pretty delayed mentally due to reverting to childhood as such as a coping mechanism as well as the delay of being home for four years after Mari's death when he was 12 just sleeping and doing the bare minimum to care for himself alongside the neglect from his mother so alongside physical growth he is mentally stunted. mentally for a while, he is 12

- Kel is usually the one being told he stinks/hj but you know it bad when Kel is shoving Sunny to shower or something because of how long he's neglected himself people don't wanna talk about how long you neglect themselves with depression and stuff and how bad it is I think he rarely bathed during those four years and the trauma heightened everything too so that near drowning experience before made him just not wanna be in water too and just some sensory related issues with water

- he has very sensitive hearing and tons of sensory issues He gets overstimulated easily and it is a whole mess because he can't express himself well

- he's autistic and selectively mute adhd too

- he uses sign language alongside just physical contact and stuff and or communication cards and just writing stuff

- Sunny goes non-verbal even if it's not stressful but it's just a big thing and all or a stressor he reverts

- still childish due to the lack of aging mentally and just trying to keep it the way it was before per se And is also on the late developmental spectrum of autism

- he said his first words p late at 3-4 and it was "Mari" but Sunny had a bit of a speech impediment so speech therapy and it was "mawi" for ages

- he's Japanese & Korean English he speaks both but he had difficulties in learning someKorean was mainly at home and English outside but

- yk the raw steak and all thing? That is no longer his favorite food it makes him sick

- Sunny used to wear Mari's clothes a lot whether or not they were old He likes skirts in general a lot The cotton flowy ones because they aren't restricting

- Sunny's voice is developed well due to lack of speech so it hurts to speak at times and it's just raspy and all his baby face does not go with the deep quiet voice he has

- Sunny's bi and he had a crush on Aubrey as implied in canon and also Basil

- he has a collection of stuffed animals and blankets that he's piled on his bed the only thing is it's not messy like you'd expect it's meticulously organized was his side of the room and Mari's was a "mess" but she knew where everything was

- Sunny tends to mimic people a lot especially those he is close with like Mari for example

- After the good ending, Sunny grows his hair out to be like Mari's. Unlike before when he hadn't realized how long it'd grown in the past and had to cut it from sheer panic

- artistic v much so that he likes to draw and write shit but most of it will never see the light of day despite the horrifyingly good detailed nightmare fuel he wants hero to hang up on the fridge

- Mari and Hero's nickname for him is "Sunshine"

- Mari named Sunny because he straight up was a nameless baby for ages and she called him Sunny and he stuck

- Sunny sounds sarcastic and dry and all in everything even when he isn't and it's almost Mirroring Mari's issues in sounding rude and not genuine so they both have to overcompensate

- Sunny has RSD.

- I think he is still kinda religious he believes in god but that's about it especially because it kinda got shoved down his and Mari's throats as kids he stuck to it but Mari drifted away really

- Sunny's knife is his emotional support, he snatched it from Hero & Kel's kitchen so when Kel takes it from him he realizes that was the missing knife and is like?? "Why do you have our knife???"

- Mari & Hero would always Kiss injuries better for the younger kid and Sunny is convinced it still worked so Basil does it for Sunny's eye when sunny stabbed Aubrey he tried to do that to apologize and Aubrey was like "WHAT THE FUCK??"

- Sunny has a scar where his eye was stabbed He goes between just with his eye/socket or just an eyepatch too

- has to wear sunscreen just to go outside or else he will just be burned. (It's good to protect yourself anyway) but Sunny is just so pale and sensitive skin and Mari always ingrained it into him to lather sunscreen to go outside

- Sunny is hard of hearing

- he narrates himself whenever he's stressed

- so sunny isn't good at expressing himself and he got it from mimicking how Mari handles herself So when he can't verbalize his feelings and all and she isn't getting any the hints no matter what he resorted to throwing and breaking the violin as the I'm fed up to get her attention and it backfired because before she's find out the problem becomes she understood breaking things as a means id expressing because I see her having the issue as a kid and just she realizes it's not socially acceptable so its put more like Squeezing things and nails in her hands type thing but she just assumes sunny was doing it to make her made rather rhan expressing jt

The autistic to autistic communication is not communicating and Sunny wanted to verbalize it and react to the overwhelming emotions without hurting himself or someone else so he acted out on the violin but Mari, his safe space, getting so angry and for a skittish kid and sensitive one he felt threatened and was scared so it resulted in the shove

- He particularly mimics Mari a lot in general so they share a lot of habits and all because of the mimicking and just being family and close but she is his go-to if he has to mimic and he doesn't even realize he's doing it

Mari and everyone thought it was cute at first until Mari realized oh he's doing what I do

- I also think Mari & Sunny's parents weren't particularly good about dealing with Sunny selective mutism and also his neutral expression that was only ever changed when he cried or something and Sunny attempted to poorly

After an accident that I haven't quite worked out the details of, Kodya dies, and Gyrus and Don frame it as a suicide. Gyrus, filled with grief, ends up retreating to his house and refusing to leave, only surviving alone via ordering groceries online, and occasional care packages from friends.

If it's not obvious, Gyrus is Sunny, Kodya is Mari, and Don is Basil. Building off this, The Cockroach King is Stranger (sort of), and Gyrus is also Omori... Kind of. Omori's role of "protagonist of the dream" isnt here Gyrus is still Gyrus, dreaming or not. But Omori's role of "keeping the dream going" and "keeping the dreamer ignorant of the truth" is still here and applied to Masiosare.

Reflecting the role change of Omori, The Cockroach King still wants the dream alive as well, but rather, he wants it to be a living nightmare for Gyrus, to let his guilt fester.

Who will bring Gyrus to the truth then? Well none other than Black Box Gyrus! It makes sense as well, as the Black Box replaces Blackspace in this au.

As I just mentioned, the Black Box replaces Blackspace, and similarly, The Room of Swords main building is Whitespace, and the Realms are Headspace. Rather than Gyrus having the same 3 party members throughout all of headspace, he can pick which ones to bring with him on a voyage from the greater Room of Swords cast.

So how does Gyrus finally leave his house? Similarly to Sunny of course! Gyrus gets a knock on his door, it's Oli! Oli is hosting a party at his restaurant soon and wants to invite Gyrus! And to his surprise Gyrus actually opens the door! (Or maybe he doesn't?). Oli then spends the day doing errands with Gyrus, meeting a few old friends along the way.

Also misc part of my info dump that idk where else to say, but RW Don has his legs missing, based on early canon Don. Though his personality is p much entirely based off the Don we get in the new reality at the end of Room of Swords. I imagine he got into an accident unrelated to Gyrus, but after Gyrus locked himself away. Maybe he even did this to himself over the guilt of framing Kodya's death as a suicide...

Ben Chaplin is my Elijah Baley.

The unassuming British actor with smouldering, darkly handsome looks may not be the thinking woman's crumpet, but has the right touch (heh) of reserved, intense, brooding sensitivity. And he's played several gay men.

I started thinking about actors when I cast Matt Bomer as Daneel and entertained the idea of Pedro Pascal for Elijah, but Pascal just didn't feel right to me. Too sensing, too much of an extroverted chad. So I Googled around for anyone who might fit the bill, and found this most suitable fellow. His screen career is somewhat middling and mostly supporting roles, but he's been in critically acclaimed theatre.

I happily cast him and made (+AI) a ton of (yet-to-be-posted) images of him as Elijah before I ever even saw a single performance of his. Then I watched The Nevers. And it confirmed that I was right. My husband agrees!

I also wanted to keep him all to myself, but I decided to share my secret since my book covers modeled on his likeness were appreciated.

what do basil and wendy have arguments about/ dislike about each other? No relationship is perfect :P

ofc! I like to think that WENDY and BASIL are super compatible because they are willing to be comfortable enough confront each other about anything.

however! Yes, they do argue SOMETIMES.

Starting with dislikes, I don’t really like calling them dislikes but just a few things that they note about each other. I imagined BASIL to be a tad bit possessive of WENDY because she was essentially the only other one at the MARI incident and that she takes time and effort to stay in touch with him, care for him, and just be there for him. He’s afraid to lose WENDY which doesn’t necessarily make her uncomfortable but very few times she feels a little trapped. Most times she likes that he likes her so much but it gets weird when he’s trying to keep her away even from KEL and SUNNY.

BASIL doesn’t like the way WENDY handles her issues. Like yes, they’re both spiraling in despair in their own way, but BASIL sees that WENDY suppresses those feelings and completely ignores herself, even when he tries to comfort her as she does with him. She cracks sometimes but it’s frustrating to see someone he cares about just ignoring herself yknow? He even noticed this before the MARI incident whenever she was sad. Though in those times, she was able to talk about it with him alone.

So arguments! I feel like throughout their entire relationship even before the MARI incident, they don’t argue. Again, I think they’re very compatible because they respect each other and confront freely. However, things pick up during the last 3 days before SUNNY’s move. BASIL and WENDY argue about SUNNY as WENDY feels obligated to be by his side when BASIL is sort of afraid of him. He feels that WENDY doesn’t have to be with him all the time. And she knows but it would feel wrong to leave him alone. We know what happens during that ending scene between BASIL and SUNNY! Truly in despair Fr. WENDY doesn’t think that BASIL should feel disdain for SUNNY but everyone’s emotions towards the whole ordeal are very twisted.

there are other smaller things like arguing about eating. I hc BASIL not wanting to eat a lot of the time and WENDY trying to get him to eat more so he can live.

There’s also a weird atmosphere whenever they try and talk about WENDY’s past.

there’s probably more that I can’t recall in the back of my mind but those are the major ones.

okay so I'm gonna start a mini herb garden with one of those like mini multi-pot planters that look like totes almost? it'll be kept outside so maximum sunlight and rain water but is there anything I should do for the specific herbs?

I'm growing spearmint, chives, broad leaf sage, green pearl parsley, Greek oregano, thyme, big Italy parsley, Genovese basil, rosemary, and cilantro (I know it's alot sorry, I just know you like plants) also if there are any other herbs you think I should include, lemme know!

that sounds exciting!! are you planting from seeds or plugs (already sprouted seedlings)? If its your first time i recommend going with plugs from the store, BUT if youve already bought seeds you can make your own plugs :] you can do this by buying plug trays, filling them with soil, and putting the seeds in the trays. you'll want to start them in a controlled environment, which can be a screened in porch, or inside with a grow lamp. make sure that when theyre young you water them daily!! especially if you live in an especially warm climate.

as for your selection, id really recommend growing basil and mint AWAY from the rest of your herbs, theyre both pretty aggressive plants and especially mint will spread wherever it can and destroy your garden. if you dont want to spend the rest of your life trying to eradicate it, plant it in a seperate planter, and have it off of the ground— maybe an outdoor table or something— so that it doesnt spread into your patio or yard etc. because IT WILL. basil is a bit less aggressive but its still something to be careful about, plant it seperate as well so it doesnt kill your other herbs

everything else is p much standard, water everyday, dont let it dry out— except for rosemary, which really likes to be dry. i would be careful not to OVER water it, but still make sure youre soaking it when you do water.

OMG WHERE DO I EVEN START!! omori is such a good game!! first of all it's about a boy named sunny who makes up a whole new world in his mind where all his friends (and sister) is happy, to cope with his trauma and escape from the reality.

he goes on little adventures with his friends in his dream world and later on to find his lost friend named basil :D and the art style— it's a perfect blend of cute and creepy that adds so much depth to the game's atmosphere. and the soundtrack? Absolutely phenomenal! It really does elevate the whole experience and adds so much emotion to every moment. :p

there's so many outcomes and routes that you can choose that will change based on your in game choices which is pretty cool! i already played the game 6 times now and never got sick of it once. it's basically my comfort game at this point 💯

UGHH ID LOVE TO TALK ABOUT THE GAME MORE BUT I WOULDNT WANT TO GIVE ANY SPOILERS BEFORE HAND 😓 but over all it's one of the best games I've ever played and would recommend playing it %100

I've decided to re-watch “The Mark of Zorro” (1940) to cheer myself up. 

I have sort of a plan: 1) watch the black and white version (in the old Soviet dubbing) and write down an emotional brief review in the process of watching it; 2) watch the colorized version; 3) watch the movie in the original dubbing; 4) perhaps write a full review.

I watched this movie a long time ago for the first time (I wanted to watch famous films with Basil Rathbone). But unfortunately, I didn't get to watch the movie properly, and all I remembered were a few scenes. I didn’t like Tyrone Power then, and only this year, after taking a closer look at him, I changed my mind. So this is the first time I'm watching Zorro'40 carefully.

Before we start, a few words need to be said. (However, the film has my full attention from the very first frame, and I'll have a very hard time pausing and writing down these notes!)

First of all, I am not a native English speaker, so I apologize for any mistakes.

Secondly, after watching the movie I want to give my assessment of a) screenplay, b) cast and director’s work, c) posters, costumes, locations, camera work, soundtrack etc. Also, I wanna find the answer to the question, what makes the movie a masterpiece for me.

A separate topic is the homoeroticism of "The Mark of Zorro". We know that Diego's flirtation with Captain Pasquale was part of his plan to eliminate his enemies, but was there a "gay message" in the film, as some movie reviewers claim? Perhaps it was ambiguous humor or an analogue of modern fan service for those viewers who positively evaluate same-sex relationships? Let's try to figure it out.

So, let's start.

Wow, Diego receives his military education (!) in Madrid (judging by his uniform, he is a hussar), he has a reputation as a duelist (he was nicknamed "Californian cockerel") and, probably, a womanizer. It is not yet known how old Diego is, but the actor (Tyrone Power) is 26, which means the screenwriters were most likely focusing on the canonical novel by Johnston McCulley.

I also really like the design of the credits, the preface and the first lines of the characters, as well as the costumes and the balance between realism and spectacularity of the movie (and this spectacularity is the result of the work of the film crew and fencing skill of actors, and not modern computer graphics etc).

Aha, "Cadet Vega".

And, saying goodbye to his comrades, Diego thrusts his saber into the ceiling.

"Leave it there. And when you see it think of me in the land of gentle missions, happy peons, sleepy caballeros, and everlasting boredom. Wine! A toast, señores! To California! Where a man can only marry, raise fat children, and watch his vineyards grow."

The most amazing thing is that Diego gives the impression of a very mature and strong-willed person. Like a military general, not a young cadet :) I have three explanations: 1) Tyrone Power himself was like that, 2) he played Cadet Vega like that so viewers would later see the contrast between true Diego and his dandy mask, 3) both factors. But, of course, Power was not just a talented and good-looking actor, he was a charismatic person. A fine choice of an actor to play Zorro. Moreover, Power had a Spanish-like appearance, which is important, for my taste. And his slim body would allow him to convincingly play both a dandy and the "elusive ghost" El Zorro.

Before I continue watching the movie and taking notes, here are a few interesting facts about actors and my thoughts out loud.

🎭 Everyone knows that Basil Rathbone was one of the best swordsmen in Hollywood. But perhaps not everyone knows that he was twice the British Army Fencing Champion, a skill that served him well in movies and allowed him to even teach actors Errol Flynn and Tyrone Power swordsmanship. (By the way, Rathbone was awarded the Military Cross in 1918.) And! He said about Tyrone Power, "Power was the most agile man with a sword I've ever faced before a camera. Tyrone could have fenced Errol Flynn into a cocked hat." Rathbone's opinion was worth a lot, because he was not only famous for his fencing and acting skills—he was a mega-celebrity (well, years ago I became interested in "The Mark of Zorro" precisely because Rathbone starred there; I had never even heard of Power xD). And yup, as we already know, the movie became a hit, and 20th Century-Fox often cast Power in other swashbucklers in the years that followed.

🎭 The fact that Flynn and Power were lovers can only be of interest to us because Power, due to his bisexuality and communication with homosexuals, was able to play ideally a man who pretended (?) to be interested in the same sex. But since Power's Diego was flirting with Rathbone's Captain Pasquale, I was interested in his views on same-sex relationships. Rathbone probably had a positive attitude towards them, since in 1926 he was very angry about the censorship because he believed that homosexuality needed to be brought into the open (Rathbone was arrested along with every other member of the cast of "The Captive", a play in which his character's wife left him for another woman).

🎭 So far, I like everything about "The Mark of Zorro", except that the screen image is reminiscent of "Captain Blood" (1935), not "Gone with the Wind" (1939), filmed in Technicolor. Perhaps modern viewers often underestimate Zorro'40 precisely because both versions of the movie, black-and-white and colorized, seem "old-fashioned" to them.

An interesting fact. According to Hollywood legend, Rathbone was Margaret Mitchell's first choice to play Rhett Butler in the film version of her novel "Gone with the Wind".

CSA WEEK 16

THIS WEEK AT EDGEWATER…

SO MANY FALL FEELS! This weekend's equinox totally hit like a ton of bricks.  As the light levels change, I find myself already reaching and hoping for every bit of sun to shine on us, our fields, etc… It is hard to experience a change of seasons as we moved right over Summer, experienced an eternal Spring, and now suddenly Fall is here with its demand that we put on at least one to two layers of woolies during morning harvest, spark our ovens nightly for tomato/pepper roasting, 

and consider which pumpkin reaches Martha Sterwart stoop status, as we move them out of bins and clean them up to sell.  These are all good things, BUT after a summer that was sun deficient, I am certainly not ready.  

However it is not all doom and gloom at Edgewater, I am but one salty farmer in a village of many!  Pooh seems particularly tickled about Fall’s entrance; he spends his days seeding cover-crop and jonesin for the nightly potato harvest. 

Yes! The great potato harvest has begun! And compared to last year’s crop- think back to last summer’s drought and 0 irrigation on the potato field due to debatably poor planning, but also, who knew we were gonna have an intense drought?!?!?- this crop looks baller.  Every variety is coming through with pretty decent yields.  Nightly, Pooh and Mike venture down the road well after morning pick and afternoon deliveries.  Mike drives the tractor with a gigantic potato harvester attached to it and Pooh drives the other tractor with a massive potato wagon to collect said spud.  They ride side by side - it is indeed darling as they both have a tendency to be real lone wolves.  Mike's potato harvester pulls the tots from the earth, moving each potato through the machine like Miss Pac Man through the maze (sans ghost).  The potato makes its way to the top of the harvester, goes through the hopper and lands in Pooh’s wagon- a real “he shoots he scores” moment for all.  Each morning after harvest, field crew then heads to the field, scoop’n up all the little spuds that did not make the hopper.  Those potatoes- those perfect tiny round little bits- that is what is in your CSA this week.

Serves 2 

JENNY’S NOTE: highly recommended making way more of the shakshuka tomato sauce and canning or freezing for deep winter brunch.  All your friends will be so impressed :)

For the tahini 

1 cup tahini paste

2 tsp fresh lemon juice, plus more to taste

1 garlic clove, grated 

1 tsp kosher salt, plus more to taste

½ cup ice water, plus more if needed 

To make the tahini: In a medium bowl, whisk together the tahini paste, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and ice water. It will reach a weird, lumpy consistency, but don’t be afraid. Keep whisking until it smooths out and becomes light in color (if it doesn’t, it needs more ice water, so just add a bit more). Tahini sauce with the perfect consistency will drip through the tines of a fork, but just barely. Taste for seasoning, adding more lemon juice or salt if desired. Store in a jar in the refrigerator for up to one week. If the tahini gets too thick while in the fridge, just loosen it up with a little water before using.

For the shakshuka

2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling 

1 small yellow onion, finely chopped

1 red pepper, finely chopped

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

3 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 tsp ground cumin 

1 tsp curry powder (optional)

½ tsp ground turmeric

1 tbsp harissa, store-bought 

6 medium tomatoes, finely chopped

Pinch of sugar

4 large eggs 

Fresh dill or parsley, for garnish

Challah, pita, or other soft white bread, for serving

In a large skillet with a fitted lid, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and pepper, and season well with salt and black pepper. Cook until the onion just begins to lightly brown, 6 to 8 minutes, then add the garlic, cumin, curry powder (if using), turmeric, and harissa. Sauté until fragrant and the onion is lightly browned, 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes and season with the sugar and a pinch each of salt and black pepper. Cover the pan and simmer over low heat until the sauce has thickened slightly, about 20 minutes. Uncover the pan, raise the heat to medium-high, and continue simmering, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is thick enough to cling to the eggs, 10 to 15 minutes. 

Use a large spoon to make four wells in the sauce. Crack an egg into each well, cover the pan with the lid, and cook over medium-high heat until the whites are set but the yolks are still runny, about 3 minutes. 

Remove the pan from the heat. Garnish with fresh dill or parsley and drizzle with olive oil and garlicky tahini. Serve hot with bread.

Crispy Roasted Potatoes with Garlic and Herbs – these are just classic. Once you figure out how easy this method is, it’s hard to make roasted potatoes any other way. You can totally omit the herbs and toss these potatoes in spices like, paprika, turmeric, curry powder….whatever flavor combinations you love. The key here is making sure you pre-heat the oven and space out your potatoes on the sheet tray so they have the ability to really crisp up and get golden and crunchy. 

2 lbs New Potatoes

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

1 head garlic, crushed cloves

5 fresh thyme sprigs- can substitute with dried

3 rosemary sprigs- can substitute with dried

Or your sage from last week’s csa!

lots of Kosher salt and cracked black pepper to season

Bring a large pot of salted water to boil and add in the potatoes. Boil for 10-15 minutes until a knife runs through the potato easily. Strain and let air dry for 5 minutes.

Pre-heat the oven for 425 degrees F. Place the potatoes on a sheet tray and using the bottom of a cup or the heel of your hand press down on each potato. Make sure they aren’t touching. Season well with salt and black pepper. Sprinkle over fresh thyme, rosemary and drizzle over the olive oil.

Tear the leaves and rub them releasing all the aromas. Move the potatoes around on the seasoned oil, being very careful not to bread the potatoes. They are very delicate. When the oven is pre-heated place the seasoned smashed potatoes in the hot oven and let roast for 20-25 minutes until golden. Remove and eat those Crispy Roasted Potatoes with Garlic and Herbs.

I'll admit, I bear BBC Sherlock if I don't take it too seriously and enjoy the absurdity, and that's why I enjoy adaptations like Without a Clue, Elementary, Приключения Шерлока Холмса и доктора Ватсона, the Basil & Nigel movies, Ritchieverse, The Private Life of SH...

But my lead ones will definitely be: Granada Holmes. It's is so aesthetically pleasing and has a perfect plot pacing/elements, I'm able to appreciate it in all angles. It's also one of the best portrayals of Holmes and Watson's relationship imo, that is already iconic on its own, but this adaptation in specific articulate much better than what we see in the books.

The Frogwares games. I enjoy it most because we interact with Holmes & Watson's world, because besides being a book nerd I'm also a gamer, two of the worst mental illness known to mankind.

Bert Coules radio dramatisation. This one fucks all, they put their whole pussy into adapting all of the stories and I still get emotional over the performance in The Three Garridebs. Also I love when Mary is recognized more than the few times Conan Doyle remembered her existence in the books.

And finally (finally) Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes. I've expressed my love for Tom and Jerry parodies in the past, so it's no surprise. It's full of warmth, fun, has a bit of steampunk and it's my favorite cartoon, what more could I possible need?

I probably left out many others, but it's because we would need to sit down and talk all day long about all of them in minimum details, because I've been a hard fan since I was fourteen and haven't know peace since then. But I hope this was enough to get a glimpse of my silly opinions :P
