The Florida reference wasn't about the peninsula currently known as Florida, so for clarification's sake: the current governor of Florida is notorious in US domestic politics by passing deeply harmful legislation targeting his state's LGBTQ+ communities, the T in particular. The comparison there was that, while resorting to slurs or hate speech in a moment of anger at a queer person is still homophobic, it's not on the same level as actively wishing harm on the community at large. Why did I use this example? Because I am from the US and invoking another country's politics for my Extreme Homophobia Example would be presumptuous at best.

(Unrelated: man, I would LOVE to know what is going on in the Americas in the CQL universe, because the existence of potatoes and peanuts means Fantasy China has established trade relations with the Fantasy Americas centuries earlier than they did in real life, and with no Fantasy European middlemen to boot. THE IMPLICATIONS FOR FANTASY WORLD HISTORY ARE VAST.)

But to return to the original point: Yes, I know that everyone in MDZS/CQL sucks to some degree. It would be a boring story if they didn't! That's what I was getting at in my snarky little response there. My favorite character--who is so obviously my favorite character that you can tell just by looking at my username and avatar combo--is THEE endgame villain of the story. He kinda sucks! He is my precious son whom I cherish, but I get why so many people don't care for him. Mind, there are certain ways that people express their dislike that make me :/, but as long as they're not deliberately baiting the character tags or clowning on my posts, it's whatever.

So like... I get that he sucks. There are all kinds of reasons someone might personally find him indefensible and not worth analyzing. But I find him interesting and sympathetic, so I am going to express that, and explain why I think so with references to source material to contextualize my own (biased, subjective) emotional responses. It doesn't mean my viewpoint is either objectively correct or objectively wrong; it just is. And if I'm going to do that with Pocket-Sized Crimes Man, you can bet I'm also going to do it with Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling, who are not even in the same league here. I mean, jeez, Jin Ling's only crime is being an 8th grade boy.

And forgive my saying so, but "everyone sucks" wasn't the message that was previously sent. It was, specifically, "I don't see why you're defending these two characters." I'm advocating them because I think they're neat! I like them! I can't go into more specifics because I am genuinely unsure which post of mine inspired this exchange; heaven knows I don't tag anything I write on this blog. But asking why implies that there is something objectively wrong--and even morally wrong, perhaps--with doing that, which is simply untrue.

💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?

contrary to popular belief, ichigo... doesn't really have problems with his emotions. despite his occasional bouts of anger, he's fairly competent in handling his emotions. the only ones he might have issues with are things like love and affection, but that’s only because he hasn’t ever experienced those — and even then, those are emotions he’s just awkward at dealing with. he’s not repressed or anything.

💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?

how quickly he falls asleep.

at the drop of a hat, ichigo falls asleep, usually without even trying. while it’s not something that bothers him and it’s not something that hinders his daily life, it’s still something that could very easily become a nuisance to other people.

🎂 BIRTHDAY CAKE - when is their birthday? do they like celebrating it?

may 3rd! he’s a taurus :)

ichigo doesn’t really care about his birthday, though. he’s not against having a party (if someone else throws him one — he has no desire to set one up himself), and it’s not like he hates the day or anything, but he just... doesn’t care. hell, half the time he forgets that it’s his birthday until someone mentions it. he’s always been like that, ever since he was little.

if you throw him a party or even just tell him happy birthday, he’ll be happy, though. it means a lot that you’d remember something about him that he perceives insignificant.

🍧 SHAVED ICE - do they still have any objects from their childhood? what significance does it have to them? what would their reaction be if they lost it?

most of his childhood items are still in his mom’s house with the exception of one — a blanket that he’s had since he can remember. it’s nothing really all that special — just some well-used, fluffy red one — but it’s one of his biggest comfort items.

if he lost it, i think he’d probably get really anxious, but the kind where you just feel this deep discomfort in the pit of your stomach. he’d also have a hard time sleeping since that’s the main blanket he sleeps with.

🌹 ROSE - do they like valentine’s day? have they been confessed to before? have they confessed to anyone before?

valentine’s day is another day ichigo is extremely neutral toward. he doesn’t have any inherent issue with the holiday, he just... doesn’t care (again, lol). if he were in a relationship with someone who did care about it, he’d do whatever he could to make the day special, but from a personal viewpoint, it’s just another day. he does like all the candy, though.

he’s never confessed to anyone at all, much less on valentine’s day. similarly, no one has ever confessed to him, much less on valentine’s day. please be his first.

related side detail: every year on valentine’s day, his mom still sends him candy and a card. and every year, he buys her one of those obscenely huge boxes of chocolate.

🙈 SEE-NO-EVIL - what’s a side of your oc that they don't want to show other people?

there’s a small part of him that still holds scars from the past — from when he was younger and was getting into fights more often than not. he’s not a particularly insecure person, but every now and then, he’ll end up so far in his own head that he becomes one. was there something wrong with him? is that why no one ever liked him? was there still something wrong with him? is that why his own father never wanted him? did his existence ruin his mother’s life? would it have been better if he had never been born? would it even matter if he hadn’t been?

he doesn’t want anyone to see him like that.

📣 MEGAPHONE - how loud are they? what do they speak like? got a voice claim?

ichi’s voice is naturally pretty deep, but he’s not loud. he doesn’t like raising his voice, honestly — takes too much energy out of him. his normal speaking voice is fairly monotone and usually pretty tired sounding, and i imagine that he has a little bit of a dialect that comes out every now and then. (i also imagine that he lowkey talks like a delinquent anime boy. does the “haaah?” a lot.)

i don’t have a specific voice claim at the moment, but i do kind of imagine him sounding like draken in the tokrev sub. except maybe a little deeper. and less expressive lmao.

🎁 PRESENT - what types of presents would they be most happy to receive? are they good at gift giving?

out of everything, i think ichigo would be most happy getting gifts he could use in some way — stuff like food or clothes or other things that serve some function or purpose. he doesn’t mind getting other things, but he’s never sure how to express his gratitude about them — after all, it’s easy to show you liked something someone cooked for you by eating it, but what is he supposed to really do with something like a poster? hang it up and just... leave it?

as for the reverse, i like to think that he’s actually surprisingly good at giving gifts, given that he actually cares about and likes the person he’s buying a gift for. he remembers and notices little things easily, so it’s not very hard for him to get something someone wants. you mention some game you want in passing? check the price tag on a shirt in the store before moving on? you’ll end up with both of them on your next birthday.

most people assume he’s scary, mean, and angry all the time. the “scary” part is right, but the other two— not so much. they also tend to assume that he’s always looking for some kind of fight, when that’s also rarely the case.

💓 BEATING HEART - what gets their heart racing?

any type of intimate and romantic affection.

he’s not used to it in any capacity, so even the smallest bit of affection will make his heart start beating embarrassingly fast. it won’t show on his face, though... unless you keep doing it. give him one too many kisses and you’ll have him blushing bright red.

💘 HEART W/ ARROW - what traits do they look for in a relationship? do they believe in love at first sight?

the biggest one would be someone he can be comfortable and chill with. despite how he may come off, ichigo doesn’t like a lot of stress or drama — he gets enough of that with his band as it is. he’d like someone he could just lay down with for hours and talk about whatever comes to mind. also someone who could make him feel safe enough to be vulnerable and soft — he’s... never really had someone like that. not romantically, at least.

he has somewhat mixed feelings on love at first sight. he doesn’t think it exists for him, but he doesn’t doubt that it’s happened for other people. i mean, me and kazuki are right there lmao

💗 GROWING HEART - if they have a crush, is it noticeable? what changes when they're in love?

yes and no.

at first, it’s not noticeable at all — ichigo isn’t the type to get (outwardly) flustered or embarrassed by being around someone he’s into, nor is he the type to act all that different. the most he might do is act a little nicer toward them, but even that is fairly subtle — offering help with little things; grabbing them things without them asking; going out of his way to make sure he doesn’t accidentally scare them or think he’s mad at them.

the most noticeable change, especially when he’s fully in love with someone, is that he’ll willingly spend time with them. letting people into his space isn’t something he generally likes to do, but if it’s with someone he loves, he doesn’t mind.

wanting to be alone with them is the main way he can tell that someone means a lot to him.

❤️ RED HEART - their love language(s)?

quality time and acts of service. the main way ichigo shows he loves someone is by being around them, whether actively talking or doing something or just existing next to them. he also shows he loves someone by doing things for them — from little things like getting something for them so they don’t have to get up to bigger things like making food for them.

💙 BLUE HEART - do they miss their s/o easily? how do they act when their s/o isn't around?

he doesn’t miss them consciously, but he does miss them. he’s used to being alone, and generally still prefers to be alone regardless of if he’s in a relationship or not, so he doesn’t really act any differently despite them often coming into the back of his mind; wondering what they’re up to and if they’re okay; wishing he could see them soon — that kind of thing.

that said, depending on how long it’s been since he’s last seen them, it would start to bother him — he’d feel off and like something is missing, but he can’t exactly place what the issue is. it wouldn’t really hit him just how much he missed them until he was back in their arms.

💚 GREEN HEART - what things make your oc feel comforted? hugs, kisses, food?

despite not being a very touchy person, being held is one of the main things that comforts him when he’s not feeling well. let him sleep on you, run your fingers through his hair, kiss his forehead — he’ll start feeling better in no time.

About Destiel... Someone close to me who loves Spn and chat with me and all that but doesn't involve in Tumblr, or fanarts or whatever bc of man stereotypes (those are crap, really) told me yesterday that Dean was egocentric. I was like Are you fúcking kidding me, but he explained that there is a very thin line between hate and love, and for Dean to hate himself he must have loved himself before, or something like that. I think it's interesting, so i wanted to know your opinion about this

Interesting... Immediately my first instinct on this was the same as yours... but I googled the definition:

Egocentrism is the inability to differentiate between self and other. More specifically, it is the inability to untangle subjective schemas from objective reality; an inability to understand or assume any perspective other than their own.[1][2]

Although egocentrism and narcissism appear similar, they are not the same. A person who is egocentric believes they are the center of attention, like a narcissist, but does not receive gratification by one's own admiration. Both egotists and narcissists are people whose egos are greatly influenced by the approval of others, while for egocentrists this may or may not be true.

And holy crap this kind of blew my mind because this is Dean Winchester. If we think about it, Dean has a very narrow view of what his loved ones think and feel, and he is very much motivated by his emotions involving them. So that first line in the definition is true. Dean does struggle to differentiate and separate his emotions and his thoughts from those of Sam and Cas. 

Particularly with Sam, he has his viewpoint on Sam, and how Sam perceives him (this fits in quite well with what we all refer to as ‘performing Dean’) and how he should treat Sam. He has his own world view, which is often distorted from the truth. He certainly struggles to see Sam’s viewpoint most of the time. Especially involving their co-dependency and self sacrifice. He is selfish, in that he would rather die to spare himself the grief of losing the ones he loves, and prefer that they suffered the grief of losing him. 

I was actually just answering an ask about Dean’s anger towards Cas in 12x10, and thinking about it, this was also very egocentric behaviour. Dean is very much set in his ways, and he could not see the reality of the situation (that Cas saved his mothers life) because he was too concerned about the thought of losing Cas to “cosmic consequences”. He distorts his own reality to fit a preconceived notion in his head. This was most evident in 8x07 when we discover that Dean altered his own memory so that he was at fault for letting Cas go in Purgatory. The truth was something he couldn’t handle - that Cas would want to stay behind. He would prefer that the failure be on his shoulders, so he can internally punish himself, rather than consider that Cas may have been struggling so much with his own guilt that he would choose to stay behind rather than go with Dean.

It also can also fit into the explanation of why Dean broke first in prison in 12x09. He couldn’t bare the thought of being alone. Isolation is not good for an egocentrist. Dean would rather make a deal with a reaper and sacrifice himself than deal with isolation. Being kept apart from those he loves was too much for him, not because of how much he cares about them and their feelings, but because he himself could not cope with being apart from them.

He is a self hating egocentrist. I suppose that for Dean, the world does revolve around him but in a way that is always punishing him, and he feels he deserves that punishment. I can’t believe that Dean has ever loved himself. He hates himself but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t very self involved. It all comes down to his hero complex. He feels he has to save the world, and if he doesn’t, if something goes wrong, then it has to be his fault. Regardless of what anyone else may think. 

I’m not sure how well I have answered this, but those are my thoughts on it anyway. Dean is a fascinating complex character when you really start to dig into him just a little bit. You can get lost in the mess that is his psyche.
