the tributes in tbosas make me so SAD and the movie made everything 10 times worse,,,, like reaper protecting dill, lamina's mercy kill for marcus AND her getting betrayed by treech, wovey going TOWARDS the snakes, reaper trying to stop her, coral's speech at the end, how YOUNG they all looked,,,, every single detail was heartbreaking and i feel like they did such a good job with casting because it really highlights the fact that they were all just kids, and they all just wanted to go home

Author: This character was beautiful according to every beauty standard of her time, and also quiet and kind and good and feminine, but she was insipid and boring and stupid compared to the extroverted, wild bad girl with unconventional looks.
Me: Actually she's my favorite, I've adopted her, and I'm taking her away so you can't hurt her anymore.

Actually I would like to shine a spotlight on the role of women in Jekyll and Hyde because in most versions of the story they’re there to be victims, defined by their suffering. Their personality is subsumed by their role: hapless sacrificial lamb, damsel in distress, battered whore, lover that gets a nasty taste of Jekyll’s true nature. Out of all of Hyde’s victims in the original book, the two who die and are named are men (Carew and Lanyon); the trampled little girl and the slapped match seller are but blips on the radar.
Fast forward to almost any 20th century movie adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde and the female characters added to the story so that it isn’t an entirely male cast (and to cudgel a romance into it, be it needed or not) almost always fit into one of two slots: Jekyll’s love interest, who sooner or later is victimized by Hyde… or Hyde’s punching bag. The latter usually is a sex worker he happily abuses, reinforcing both their positions in society— he the wealthy white man, she the un-person no-one would miss. And yes, we’re supposed to pity her, feel bad for her. Cringe when she dislikes Hyde and fear when she’s intrigued by him. There’s something sinister about how Jekyll and Hyde adaptations are morbidly fascinated with the killing of sex workers, the same way there’s something sinister about Stevenson’s refusal to mention women unless one is getting trampled underfoot.
Listen… I love Jekyll and Hyde to bits, I really do, but at the core of the story there is a hatred of women that is projected onto the characters and echoed with each movie, TV episode, and comic, even to this day. Women don’t matter and when they do they’re defined by their tortuous relationship to Jekyll/Hyde. I’m generalizing, of course, but it’s an upsetting trend.
I feel as if the intense homosocialization and hyperfocus on male professionalism in the original novella had been replicated in the worst ways with the way it is envisioned in pop culture, Hyde almost always painted preying on a random woman like he’s a vampire. There’s nothing wrong with gay subtext; there’s nothing wrong with a that focus; but Jekyll and Hyde as a piece of fiction is a fucking sausage party and I’m so tired of women being thrown at it like a bone to a pack of rabid dogs.
And then the fandom has the gall to go, “well the book is about gay men”. Don’t get angry at the (fictional) women getting raped and murdered- get angry at the people who decided all they have to do is get raped and murdered. And then, make the change yourself, since you’re so enlightened.

this is probably a really stupid idea but hear me out: what if lucy gray actually does make it out of Panem and finds the free people living in the north and she ends up falling in love with a boy who looks like this

I rant a lot about how Anabel was 100% negatively affected by the anime's blunder, but this is not a standalone case. I am so sure that in other medias and other fandoms, writers taking a female character and just dropping the ball with them like a wine stain on white carpet is more common than we think.
Did you ever feel like that happened to your favs?

Drew this back when that whole 'draw two comfort characters of yours like that one steven universe comic' meme thing was big on IG (and social media in general) but oh well… better late than never, I guess.

Lucy having to sacrifice her life and her magic for her unborn son is such a metaphor for what society expects of moms. In a world where Lucy was emotionally manipulated into creating the Chosen One by the Mage, a process full of consequences neither her nor the Mage fully understood, and dies as a result, creates a trauma Simon shoulders for the rest of his life.
It’s the Mage’s idea to create the Chosen One and the Mage’s research and yet Lucy pays the ultimate price. Then, the Mage gives Simon away for some misguided attempt at protection. He’s like the guy who pressures the girl into having unprotected sex and then never pays child support.

One of the annoying things this fandom does is their dumbass dismissive “Higuchi deserves better” when someone brings up her CANON love for Akutagawa. And instead of addressing reasons why she likes him (something we don’t get from canon) or how she could go about stopping her feelings— things that would mean interacting with and analyzing her as a character— she’s just trivially dismissed with a “actually she loves Gin… because you know, she loves Akutagawa and that’s her surname too ;)” OR as “she deserves better, also he’s gay and in love with Atsushi” (who apparently doesn’t deserve better). And because it’s now some “yay gay rep” ship win thing (??) everyone ignores it. But the whole making it gay thing is literally just done to write off Higuchi. Because now there’s no time spent delving into her feelings and possible future for her, and the fact that if she did get with Akutagawa she’d probably get more screentime since, bar the Kouyou & Kyouka storyline, women in BSD only get more attention from canon when their story revolves around a male character. And, we all know y’all don’t actually care for her x Gin (she literally asks for her to call her “big sister”!) since there’s only the occasional fanart for them. Nor do y’all truly think she “deserves better”. You just need her out of the way so you can ship SSKK in peace

so I've been getting back into fairy tail in the background, and gosh if ONLY Mashima was focused on telling a story and developing his characters as opposed to doing a fan service shot or illustration every 30 seconds or so (an exaggeration) , then maybe I would actually enjoy the manga a little more.
But since its a shonen manga, it is basically required for it to be NOT NORMAL about the bodies of young girls and women. It's baked into the shonen manga's identity because it's market is a 'boys only' crowd, when clearly shonen manga (and shoujo manga) in recent years can be liked by literally anyone.
just *ugh* its just something that is so hard to ignore when it becomes so frequent.
