Things needing immediate attention in MUSE era...
We have GOT to diversify streaming platforms. Last year as a present to myself I went ahead and purchased a premium family bundle (for 6 email accounts each) for YouTube/YT Music, Pandora, and Spotify--plus a premium Apple account hooked up to Stationhead, and I currently have free trials going for Tidal, Qobuz, and Amazon. Premium streams are essential for charts.
Every day I make clicking through playlists on all these platforms as part of my routine: before breakfast, at lunch, and before bed at a minimum.
We also need to be very diligent about voting. Once I sat myself down and took the time to download the apps, set up accounts, and watch a few YouTube tutorials about how to do it, it's actually pretty easy and usually only a once or twice a day sort of thing.
Then there are the polls that have unlimited voting. That is a numbers game, a war of attrition. So while I wait for my lunch to heat up? I vote. Stuck in a waiting room for an appointment? Voting. On the phone with someone who is just gabbing away? Uh huh, mm mhm, but clickity click, I'm voting the whole time. I aim to hit that Vote button about 100 times a day. All told, takes less than 5 minutes.
Also our boy just posted on Insta after 126 days of silence. Please interact with the story and show him the love!
All in all, I think we really need to get into a routine where we fire on all cylinders. Streaming parties, funding parties, outreach & hype parties... We are hyper-focused on Spotify and YouTube videos and that stuff is absolutely important, but it leaves too many gains on the table. Let's use every tool in the box, okay?
Finally, I want to wrap up this post with gratitude:
I know I encourage you guys a lot to push yourselves and work hard, and I don't mean to come off as your taskmaster, but rather as a cheerleader.
We took a mostly Korean song with an insultingly low level of promo, plus no ads, no playlisting, no radio, only one version, with less than a full week to chart, which dropped during a major US holiday -- and it's very likely it will land on the Hot 100. That is...outstanding.
If nothing else, Jimin will see that he's loved and appreciated and we have his back. Whatever the assholes online try to say about vpn and bots and other bullshit, it was your blood, sweat, and tears that gave Jimin his well-deserved seat at an otherwise unwelcoming industry table. I'm so grateful to you and to this community for that.
We all know that Jimin is organic, authentic, and uniquely talented, and therefore isn't even in competition with anyone else. But we can still get him some good wins. What we do for him, we do out of love--not obligation or bragging rights. His music and his artistry are a source of JOY!
Tumblr media
WE ARE OFFICIALLY IN OUR MUSE ERA!
We have two weeks to study up and get premium accounts and gather all our energy to support a whole album. How lucky we are to be so well fed and loved.
FIGHTING!

Primetime
Tumblr media
Some smut with my favorite Autobot I uploaded on Ao3 some time ago. Felt like it also belongs here.
Some fluff, overstimulation and well this whole fic is sus, enjoy.
About this fic:
ftm reader, mention of top surgery scars, pre bottom surgery, SO NOT SAFE FOR WORK
2, 131 words
You plump down onto your bed, taking your phone out of your pant's pocket, hoping you didn't crush it in the process.
You gladly didn't, and started scrolling through Tiktok, trying to find something to cure your boredom with.
But do you know what comes after boredom?
Maybe you would get sleepy right? Well not right now, as you felt a familiar tingling sensation between your legs.
Horniness...
That is what came after boredom here.
Of course it had to...
Now you couldn't really concentrate on what you were watching, so you decided on putting your phone down and let your face fall into the pillow.
Music is the way, you thought to yourself and opened Spotify, connecting your headphones to the cellular device via Bluetooth.
So now you were laying there, on your stomach, listening to your favorite artist.
Your thoughts started to drift off to a really good looking red and blue robot and you sensed the pulsating feeling between your legs increase again. I mean he really was handsome so no wonder merely thinking about him would do things to your body.
Rolling onto your back you release a sigh, staring at the ceiling, watching the sunset color it in an apricot light.
Might as well just give in...
And with that thought you slid your hand underneath your shorts, feeling around the wetness, now starting to slowly circle your clit with your fingers.
Whimpers escaped your mouth as you let your imagination run free.
How good it would feel to have him touching you right now. Longing for his touch, you whimpered his name, licking your fingers before inserting two of them into your now soaking vagina.
Arching your back as you moved them in and out of the warmth between your legs you once again moaned Optimus' name, wishing he'd be here with you in this moment.
You moved your other hand up your shirt, your head laid back and eyes closed in pleasure.
The sudden sensation of a cold servo caressing along your thigh pulled you out of your haze and that's when you finally noticed Optimus, who had sat down next to you onto the bed.
"Don't mind me. I am just watching this beautiful scene before me."
You couldn't help but blush at that.
"For how long have you been watching?", you ask, a bit out of breath, the hand you used for pleasuring yourself resting on your left thigh now, while Optimus continued caressing your other thigh.
"A few minutes maybe."
He leaned closer, speaking into your ear. "I must say, the way you whispered my name does sound delightful. You don't mind repeating it for me?"
You leaned towards his audial, a smug expression your face, as you lowly whimpered his name again, aware of the effect it would have on your lover.
The caressing turned into a gentle grip on your inner thigh, sending a shiver down your spine. His servo moved upwards, toward your waistband.
Before going any further, he looks at you, continuing when you give him a nod. As turned on as the Prime may be, he still respected your boundaries and would not proceed without your clear consent.
Especially because he knew that at times you do not feel comfortable engaging in such an act, given your body dysphoria.
Now that he got what he needed, his servo slid underneath your shorts.
When his digits met your clit, the cold sensation made you gasp.
He looked at you to check, and you nodded again, your back arching slightly as you felt him circling the bud full of sensitive nerve endings.
He had no problem starting right away, as you had worked yourself up quite well and were pretty wet already.
He used that wetness to slowly start inserting one and then another digit into you, steadily moving them in and out at a slow pace.
Riding his digits you started moaning as the pleasure increased.
In your own arousal you slid a hand underneath your shirt, partly exposing your now flat chest.
It was the first time Optimus actually saw your chest post top surgery.
You heard his vents kicking in, as his arousal grew, optics glowing a shade darker now while admiring your body.
As you slowly sat up, he stopped in his motions, watching your every move. He then retracted his servo from in between your legs.
You grab his wrist, looking directly at him as you guide his other servo to your chest, letting him feel it. He scooted closer, your legs on each of his side now and him pulling your shirt up again.
One servo on your hips, he brushed a single digit across the healed scars, optics glowing brightly.
He knew how much you had wanted to have this procedure done and upon seeing the result he couldn't help but feel this immense amount of joy.
"Looks good, doesn't it?", you ask, smiling sheepishly.
The Prime simply nods, still admiring your chest before him. He lifted the shirt above your head, removing it and then dropping it beside you onto the bed.
Closing the distance between the two of you, you place a soft kiss on his lip plating, smiling.
"I'm glad you like it.", you whisper, eyes closed, resting your forehead against his. You knew he couldn't really kiss you back, but that didn't stop you from giving him a kiss from time to time.
A hand on his cheek, you gently stroke over the plating with your thumb, eyes full of love as you look into the bright blue optics of the person you loved so dearly.
Feeling as he grabbed the waistband of your shorts, you removed them before placing your legs on each of his sides again, now completely bare infront of him with a faint blush across your cheeks.
You heard a familiar clicking sound, as his interface panel parted, revealing his hardened phallus.
Again, he looked at you, awaiting your go-ahead.
"You may proceed.", you declared, mocking the formal way of speech he uses, earning a chuckle from Optimus.
"Very well then, it is my pleasure.", he replied bowing before you, engaging in your spoof, which left you snickering.
You take a deep breath, relaxing your body as he went ahead, starting off by gently rubbing his errection across your folds, using the moisture as lube and then placing his tip at your entrance.
You moved your hips towards him, allowing him to start entering you. One servo on your hips he gradually went deeper, until his hips met yours.
The cold metal made you shiver and you couldn't help but gasp as he started moving.
Now having a firm grip on your hips with both servos he started fastening his pace, vents working overtime.
Placing the back of your hand across your face, you moved your head to the side, moans escaping your mouth as you felt him rut into you.
Muttering something in Cybertronian, he lifted your hips up, now able to go deeper.
"I don't know what the fuck you just said, but it sounded hot.~", you managed to get out in between your moans and whimpers.
His optics dim, he replied in the same language again, followed by a thrust that was harder than the ones before, resulting in you arching your back, loudly moaning out his name.
" Oh god... Yes this feels so g-good... Please continue!", you heaved, eyes rolling back.
"Look at me.", Optimus demanded, giving you another harsh thrust and you happily obliged.
Given how rough he started to become you knew that tomorrow there would definitely be marks, but you didn't care.
One of his servos left your hip, and he started circling your clit with his thumb, making you breathe in sharply. You knew what that meant. And as you didn't protest he let you ride through your orgasm, enjoying the noises you made, not even attempting to stop moving inside of you.
Gasping for air, Optimus had stopped rubbing your clit, only having his thumb gently pressing against it. His pace had slowed down and he was now thrusting into you more roughly.
You covered your mouth as your whimpers turned desperate, but he was having none of it.
Removing your hand, he pinned it above your head, now leaning forward and looking you deep into the eyes.
"I want to hear each one of those sweet sounds of yours."
He spoke lowly, his voice carrying a threatening undertone.
Gripping the sheets with your free hand, you bit down onto your lower lip, breathing heavily as the Prime continued his harsh movements inside of you, not letting go of your pinned hand.
He may not be one to speak a lot during intercourse, but when he used his words, he did so with sharp intend.
And you knew damn well knew how good he was at this.
Your legs started shaking and you felt your second high approaching.
"Optimus Please...", you begged after the second orgasm went through your body.
He squinted his optics, waiting for you to use the safeword you two had agreed on.
When you didn't, he continued letting his own pleasure run though his systems.
His thumb now started circling your already very sensitive clit again, making you yelp, your hips instinctively moving away from him, only for you to be pulled back down onto him.
Tears started streaming down your face as he continued tormenting your already overstimulated clitoris, each rough thrust adding to the painful pleasure.
And you loved it. That's why you hadn't used the safeword.
You knew it took him longer to reach his overload, and fuck... You loved the overstimulation that came with it.
Optimus let go off your hand, adjusting his position to be more upright and caressing along your chest in the process, as he threw his helm back, a deep groan escaping his vocals.
He was close...
Your hips jerked once again, and he firmed his grip on them even more, keeping you in a fixed position, unable to move away from him.
Arching your back was the only option you had left in this situation.
The way his hips met yours was painful and you rolled your eyes back, one hand gripping onto his wrist.
Bothered by you turning away your gaze, he placed one servo under the area of your sternum, carefully but sternly pushing you down, causing you to straighten your back.
He again said something in his native language.
You maybe couldn't understand the exact words, but definitely what he meant:
To look at him. He wanted you to look up at him again.
With your body aching, you submit to his demand.
"P... Please...", you beg watching your partner chasing after his release, groaning and optics flickering while continuing to speak Cybertronian.
My god, he's so hot...
You think to yourself, starting to feel lightheaded.
Right at that moment Optimus' movements came to a sudden halt, indicating that he had reached his overload. His helm hanging low, he had closed his optics, a last deep groan leaving him, which turned into static at the end.
He thrusted into you one last time, before removing himself from you, letting his interface panel click back into place.
You let your head fall back, eyes closed and breathing heavily, completely drenched in sweat.
Optimus' grip on your hips had loosened, but he remained in his place, letting his systems cool down.
Both of you were exhausted now.
Still overheated, he caressed your thigh, then got up to go get you a towel.
You just laid there, catching your breath.
These damn sheets will definitely need to be changed.
Slowly sitting up and looking down at the mess between your legs you mumble to yourself.
"I should've placed a towel there..."
Optimus returned with a towel and a bottle of water.
Gladly accepting the two items he handed over, you place to towel in your lap, and opened the bottle, emptying it all in one go.
He had already cleaned himself off and sat down next to you, tenderly caressing your back.
After putting the cap back onto the bottle you throw it across your room, hitting the garbage bin.
Balling your fist after the small victory, you chuckle, and start wiping yourself off. Not that this would get you clean enough but it was a start.
You'll definitely need a shower, that's for sure.
"How about you go take a shower, and I join you after changing the bedsheets?"
You pressed a soft kiss on Optimus' cheek and smiled. "That's an offer I can't turn down."
Optimus returned the smile and ruffled your hair. "Take your time.", he added after you got up and made your way to the bathroom.

I have a question
Like Crazy is probably the most queercoded in Jimins songs, right after Filter.
But the song also begins with the pronoun "She's saying Baby come and follow me"
Some fans on Twitter are saying this is a reference to a gf or something.
Whats your take on this?
Hi! Thanks for your ask. Sorry for the delay in replying! And to start, I think it's fairly clear that I don't think Jimin is straight, in my opinion, based off my views. But in that same vein, I think he also likes women. I mean, he has shared previous school crushes on a girl with us. So a "she" in the lyrics of a love song, wouldn't ever really throw me off personally. But that's just me. On top of that, Jimin did share his notes of his lyric writing process for his songs on FACE. And we can see for Like Crazy, his original planned lyrics said "baby" in place of "she." So that probably got changed for a better flow, either he did that himself, or it was suggested to him by RM, Pdogg or one of the other people who helped and gave input to the song. Either way, I don't think it's indicative of a girlfriend or an ex girlfriend in anything factual. But everyone can think what they will and have their own opinions of it for sure.
Tumblr media
Now, for me, honestly there is a lot of queer coding through this whole MV and through subsequent performances/choreo/promotions for this song as well. Lyric breakdown can be found here before we go further:
Music Video:
youtube
And my first post about Like Crazy, where I talk about the song as a whole, what I think it's about AND touch on the queerness of Jimins gender expression throughout the MV:
To expand upon that, the choreo is a huge part of that and this person did a pretty good job breaking that down and sharing their theory over the dance too.
Tumblr media
On top of in the extra content for FACE, similar references get lowkey pointed out in the FACE Playlist video, both in the LC MV and the Playlist video. Which you can watch here
youtube
During the Set Me Free portion, things line up very similarly to Freddie's "I want to break free" video, where he cross dresses. And for those who don't know, he fairly openly queer as an artist. He was involved with both men and women regardless of never openly stating or confirming his sexuality (that I know of). In the video, we also see Jimin looking through vinyls, including Queen and Nirvana. AND in the LC MV set, we see on the wall writing that says "Set Me Free" "Moon" "Wake" among others AND a Queen sticker too.
Tumblr media
I want to break free video:
youtube
He talks and makes references to accepting both sides of himself a lot. It's in his stylistic choices, his art, how he expresses himself. And it's been a repeated theme for AWHILE now and if you aren't seeing it... it's because you don't want to
Tumblr media
To get deeper into it, some of the historic queer imagery and iconography Jimin used in this MV specifically and just in FACE promotions in general... would include Philip Johnson, the architect of the Glass House, openly gay and where the term "the glass closet" was coined from. A photo of his is once again in the FACE Playlist video.
Tumblr media
Robert Mapplethorpe, his portrait on the jeans Jimin wore through the MV and several images in his photobook I believe too. A photographer specializing in male and female nude works, among other things. Including his most controversial work being his documentation of the gay male BDSM subculture scene.
Tumblr media
In the photobook, he is pictured several times in an outfit where he is wearing Jean Paul Gaultier y/series Bodymorph jeans. Specifically he is wearing the "woman" set. The designer Specifically described this series as exploring and playing with the concepts of gender, he liked the idea of there being a mens set, and a womens set and them being able to overlap each other. The bodymorph clothing sets have naked human body prints on them. So!Yoon who recently worked with and is friends with RM (if not friendly with the other members too) also recently wore these in her album release as well. You can interpret him wearing these as you choose of course. I personally think it's speaks fairly clearly to the same things I was talking about above, with him referencing all things gender and how he is leaning into the more typical feminine iconography here with these pants for his softer side of the photoshoot for his album.
Tumblr media
I think looking at the designs for both sets also makes it more clear which ahem, set, Jimin is wearing too. Lol and how some of the models are mixing the sets (including So!Yoon wearing the women's set as well in a diff color)
Tumblr media
And lastly, while it might not have to do with the album directly, it does involve Jimin and is worth mentioning here as it was lowkey part of album promotions. During the first ever performance aired of Like Crazy on the Jimin Fallon show, Jimin worked with 8 backup dancers and one of them was nonbinary and shared their experience and how comfortable, welcoming, non judged and appreciated Jimin and staff made them feel the whole time. How they got to just be who they were the whole time. It speaks the type of environment Jimin cultivates around himself all the time.
Tumblr media
Performance video:
youtube
And during the teaser that was shared of Jimin working on his album with Pdogg and others. They talked about how for 10 months, Jimin basically lived in Pdoggs house. They all just lived together and ate, slept, breathed this album. Lol and in the hallway of Pdogg's house, we see that he has a Stonewall rainbow art piece. Which if that is what that is, is very special to have the education over Stonewall and the support of for that in your home in Korea. I won't speak to it either way, if that is what it is, great. If it's not. I'm just going to enjoy a rainbow in the same shot as Jimin regardless. Lol
Tumblr media
Teaser video:
youtube
At this point, there is deep references to historic queer iconography in so much of Jimins art, it's fair to say we aren't guessing anymore. He is as out as he can be without explicitly saying anything. For me personally at least. And no one is owed an explicit coming out from anyone for any reason. If you listen to what he says, what he sings about, what he photographs, what he dances, what he shares with us? It's all right there too see. So plainly. Queer people have always had to talk and listen between the lines. It's there if you want to see it. And it's fair for queer armys and queer people to react and talk about the continuous use of queer icons and imagery Jimin has used over the years. It's not assuming anything. It's just listening to what he is telling us and sharing.
Thank you for the ask. And thanks to anyone who read the whole thing. 💜

Okay I know I just went over this earlier and a did make a tutorial on TikTok but I feel like saying it here,
burning CDS is easy as FUCK
Or, a little explanation on how I make custom CDs
disclaimer: I use windows so if you use anything else I’m so sorry
I’ll add pictures to go along with this later!!!
things you absolutely NEED
a computer/laptop
(If said computer/laptop doesn’t have a built in disc drive) an external disc drive (there are pretty good ones for like 20-25 dollars!!)
CDs/DVDs obviously (either R or RW, the only difference is that you can rewrite RW CDs and DVDs)
also! DVDs obviously hold picture and video as well as audio, so do what you want with those
Technically step one
if you thrifted CDs like I did, or found really old ones in a box in your home somewhere, MAKE SURE THEY ARE EMPTY!!! If you want to keep the stuff on them, there’s an option to rip them in windows media player legacy (which is what I use to burn them as well)
then to erase it, open file explorer, click on the CD/DVD in your disc drive, click the three dots on the toolbar and select “Erase this disc” (this usually doesn’t take too long)
Actual Step One
if you want to make a mixtape, make a Spotify playlist of all the songs you want and copy the link to it (or any other platform, I just find it easier to make a Spotify playlist because I can download it), if you’re just doing an album then get the link of that album instead (make sure both of them can actually fit on the CD you have! Mine can hold like…74 minutes of music)
then use this handy little Spotify downloader to download a zip file of all the songs (sometimes it messes up and will exclude some, make sure to double check they’re all in there…if not you can download them individually too)
Step Two
in your files, open up the zip file of all the music, select them all, and copy them to music (there’s a whole section for it that media player uses, trust me you’ll see it)
then open windows media player legacy and double check it’s in there—usually it’s gathered by artist
step two and a half
Okay so most of the time I go to organize -> settings -> privacy -> and uncheck all the top boxes. You don’t have to, I just do that…idk why I just have.
Step Three (the easy part)
first make sure the CD is set as an audio CD (and also that it’s actually in the disc drive), and click the burn tab
drag all the songs you want on the CD into the burn list, and reorder them however you’d like! There are options to shuffle them and organize them specific ways if you’d like. Once you have everything all set you can click start burn and all you have to do is wait! It’ll eject once it’s done
Step 4 (optional)
If you have a jewel case, you can print or draw your own custom covers and backs!!!! You can also draw on CDs with a sharpie marker if you’d like. Just remember that slim cases have different sizing than standard cases. There’s also stickers for CDs that cover the fronts of them(? Or so I’ve been told…)
Step 5
make sure the CD actually works, try playing it on a different device if you can, and enjoy!!!
Step “what if I don’t have a CD player?”
well I’m gonna tell you you probably do and just don’t know it! do you have a DVD player laying around your house? That’s a CD player! do you have an old ass computer that would suck with burning the CDs itself but still has a disc drive an everything? That’s a CD Player!
do you have a shitty old karaoke machine? Chances are it has a spot for CDs! THATS A CD PLAYER!
Of course you can get a new one if none of these are functional devices for you or you just don’t have them, but I just wanted to point out that a lot of things can be used to play CDs
or you can help me bring back Walkmans and discmans….if you’re listening to music on the go…./silly
Also! Some cars have spots to play CDs in them!! Your CD doesn’t have to be limited to your home!!!
also also, I’m 70% sure that a lot of game consoles can play DVDs but not CDs. Saying thing incase the information is valuable for someone who wants to watch a good movie on DVD or something….

can you make a list of your top indie horror game recs ::3
yeah! so these wont be in order of what i like the most, they're just going to be here in whatever order I think of them. i'm also trying to go with what I think are more lesser-known ones, and if one is more popular it'll because I think it's one people write off that are actually good. as i'm writing this i'm going back up to say the descriptions for these will become less detailed because i got tired and cant keep repeating the art!! the atmosphere!!
Scarlet Hollow: A heavily choice-based horror mystery visual novel about going back to Scarlet Hollow- a small town in south historically ran by your family- for the funeral of your late aunt. its episodic and there are currently only 4 of the 7 episodes out. even with just them it is my favorite game. I love the writing and the art and the whole atmosphere of the game AND the soundtrack brought Brandon Boone (the composer) into my top 5 artists in my spotify wrapped last year
Slay the Princess: Another choice-based horror visual novel (and dating sim!) by the creators of Scarlet Hollow where you are tasked with, well, slaying the princess to prevent the destruction of the entire world. It's only a demo right now-releasing q3 of this year- but I'm excited for the whole game! my selling point for it with my followers is that the narrator (and some other characters) are voiced by Jonny Sims and hey podcast fans you like him check out this game
Endacopia: A click and point horror game inspired by Humongous Entertainment games such as Pajama Sam. Currently also a demo and set to release in October of 2024, I can not emphasize enough how excited I am for it. The game's style is so fun and there's lots of little details and the music??? There's two musical numbers in the demo alone. Some of the style and writing also reminds me of Undertale and even Homestuck somewhat (I say as someone who hasn't read homestuck)
FAITH: The Unholy Trinity: This is an 8-bit style horror game inspired by the 1980s Satanic Scare coming in 3 chapters with multiple endings, a very good example of games not needing high-end realistic graphics to be scary
Doki Doki Literature Club: Glances at my icon. who could've seen this one coming. I feel like most people know about ddlc by now, even if they don't know anything past "horror anime dating sim". It starts off for a long while a seemingly normal, if bland, visual novel dating sim until-seemingly suddenly- twisting into psychological horror. There's, however, a lot of foreshadowing once you see the beginning again after knowing what will happen. Honestly I think this games brilliant and its such a shame it somehow got lumped in with "cringe" mascot horror (its not even a mascot horror game?). For me a lot of the horror comes from the amount of scares left up to a random percentage- and how subtle a lot of them are. You can replay it and have a fairly different experience than you did the first time- and be scared by completely new things. There's also this existential and cosmic horror element that is less one you experience while playing it, i think, and more thinking about it afterwards. This isn't even touching on a lot of the secrets and easter eggs. a few years after the original game came out, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus was released, and it leaves the og game experience essentially untouched while adding a new vn experience the length of the og game (thats seemingly horror-less) as well as some more lore to the world, not of the game, but around the game, and builds more on the existential/cosmic horror. Needless to say from the length of this, I adore this game. also take the content warnings seriously, in the (free) og the game opens with warnings and a link to a page with specific tws, and in ddlc+ you are given the options to see those warnings listed before starting the game, as well as the ability to turn on tw pop-ups before game events
Home Safety Hotline: Also currently a demo, a horror game where you work for a home safety hotline, answering calls to help people deal with pests and other household problems. as the game progresses you get some more... off-putting calls and access to more unusual problems. I love games that put you into the role of someone who works a mundane job dealing with horrifying shit (similar reasoning to why I like the I'm On Observation Duty games, which I think are more popular rn than I want to put on this list)
NiGHT SIGNAL: By the same creator of Home Safety Hotline, this one's a short one about getting a new tv set and finding some strange channels during the night, inspired by The Twilight Zone and a 1995 game, The Dark Eye. A lot of the art in the game is done with clay which creates this really nice uncanny look and atmosphere- details about which you can see in an artbook you unlock after playing the game, which is REALLY cool I adore seeing the creativity behind and what goes into games like these.
and there's a bunch more I like, these are just the ones off the top of my head and I also dont feel like typing a bunch more dfnafnsk I'll also say if yall haves one you really like that I havent mentioned feel free to send an ask talking about them

🎶✨️when u get this u have to put 5 songs u actually listen to, publish. Then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool)🎶✨️
(hope i don't bother you with this ask ! have a great day/night/whatever)
oh i listen to so so soooo many songs . uhm. i guess i'll choose some of my current favorites? oh maybe a favorite song from each of my favorite bands! ...of which there are definitely more than 5. but top 5 favs i guess???? or current 5 favs??? i dont think i can call these necessarily my Top 5 favs bc i have so many bands & artists i like at different times for different reasons BUT IF I HAD TO CHOOSE... ok this is going by band order i guess for current fixation but:
Sorrow - IAMX. ive been obsessively into IAMX recently to the extreme. for months. and i love soooooooo so many songs of theirs. but this song? Sorrow? it's the one that did it for me. I Come With Knives was the initial one that kicked this off, but going to Sorrow is what made me like "man i DESPERATELY need to listen to more of their music". NOT my very first IAMX song, that title belongs to Volatile Times, which ive known for like some ten years :p but only recently listened to more of their music and i have NOT looked back. as a bonus Sorrow reminds me a lot of ITNL Vash. perhaps part of the fixation on it lol
Nothing Personal - Des Rocs. picking a favorite song from him was nearly impossible bc im obsessed obsessed obsessed with his music. legit last year on my spotify wrapped all of my top 5 songs were his. OBSESSED. 'A Real Good Person In A Real Bad Place' is still undisputedly one of my fav albums EVER & the reason for that top 5 songs thing. but Nothing Personal is the first Des Rocs song i ever heard & what made me go "Oh my God???" & it still makes me lose my total shit when i listen to it lksdjflskjdf. honorary mention to Why Why Why, which was the other one i considered for him. also love that shit sooo much.
I Never Told You What I Do for a Living - My Chemical Romance. just so you know picking a single favorite song for MCR was near impossible. so much of their music makes me absolutely insane in the best of ways & picking just ONE?????? impossible. but i chose this one bc it's one that makes me EXTRA lose my shit anytime i listen to it. like fucking Belting it out. this one's The One. i can't give you special mentions for MCR bc there are too many. too fucking many. god i still love MCR so much
Armageddon - Blue Stahli. fucking love Blue Stahli's stuff, it's SOOO fun to listen to, & Armageddon probably really is my fav of theirs. i end up just jumping along to this song so much. it's a jumping song !!! so much fun to listen to !!!! also really paints a picture of me that a fav song of mine is just "Armageddon, come come and get it! Armageddon, baby!" the whole The Devil album is soooooooooo much fun & also an album i had a Mood for. back in uhh oct 2021 i wanna say. around there. special mentions for Takedown, Kill Me Every Time, and Power Outrage (this last one especially, OH MAN this also makes me lose my shit in the best of ways)
Mr. Fear - SIAMES. in a dramatic tone change from the other choices, i really am quite fond of SIAMES's music. it's my chill music. & this song specifically is sooooooooo full of longing and wistfulness. it's the first one of theirs i listened to & it's so......... waaaaaaaaaaaaa.. special mention to Brothers, which i very nearly chose bc im obsessed with that song too, but Mr. Fear has had my heart in a chokehold since i first listened to it Years ago. had to answer that one.
uhm. there are 5! additional special mentions to Capricorn by Xan Griffin, Maniac by Stray Kids, and Lovesong by TXT, which are all individual songs i've had MASSIVE obsessions with in the past. the Repeat On End kinds of songs. im being a bad STAY by not including Stray Kids in the favorite bands list but i havent been listening to their music as much lately. feeling these top 5 much more rn

Turpentine is my all time favorite song. It was my top song from Spotify wrapped in 2023 despite being released on October 20 (wrapped was released Nov 29 lol). It's about searching for meaning in a meaningless life. Let me tell you what's so fucking amazing about this song: an essay, by me, ace of squirrel
Soak your clothes in kerosene
Cleanse the mind of ketamine
Slide your mom on top of me
Wash yourself with turpentine
Okay this song opens with very classic Tom lyrics. Wacky, silly, seems meaningless, casually vulgar. In many ways this entire album feels like a return to form, and that opening verse is a great example.
My arms, I've raised again
Today I don't feel bitter
I have no path within
Don't know if I'll get better
My own mind's unclean
Can't taste anything
What if I'm not like the others?
A broken man, a Frankenstein
What if my heart won't recover?
I'll clean myself with turpentine
Then there's an immediate tone shift to these really raw lyrics. These lyrics are heavy. It gives the impression of someone who woke up one day, no longer recognizing themself. As if to say "Is this what I've become?" Feeling like somehow, the whole is *less* than the sum of its parts. We're all just these broken pieces, haphazardly sewn together and hoping it holds.
Meanwhile the guitar has this desperate, almost panicky feeling behind it. Somehow this is also very classic blink.
I feel like I'll cave in
I'm anxious, I am weathered
I've lost my way again
I know there ain't no treasure
These lyrics *kill* me, my god. These lyrics are saying we're crumbling apart, breaking at the seams. We're on this journey, we're lost, and we know that nothing good awaits us at the end? There's such a hopelessness to this verse.
My mind breaks with ease
Sticks and stones and dreams
We already have the ingrained association of sticks and stones being things that hurt us. Now you want to lump dreams into that category? Oh honey, who hurt you
Sharks smell the blood in the water
We're all just lambs to the slaughter
It's only all the time, this time
A generation lost and forgotten
Clawing at the lid of the coffin
Your God ain't coming back this time
We have this fun little moment that is very Mark here. We see these "spoken word"-like verses from Mark in a lot of his other songs (and especially collabs like Find My Own Way or Let Me Down). While a lot of the lyrics sung by Tom feel like an internal monologue, Mark's verses look outwards. The world around is more than uncaring. It's actively harmful, maliciously negligent. There's a sense of desperation and utter loneliness and constantly fighting to survive.
Quit your job and have a drink
Take a pound of ecstasy
Blah, bla-blah, bla-blah, fuck
Wash yourself with turpentine
This ^ *this* ^
Self destructive, desperate. It's like they want to convey how meaningless everything feels and the best way to do that is not even bother writing a lyric here. Love it.
Light me like a trampoline
Stick your dick in Ovaltine
Snort a bag of Dramamine
Douse yourself in gasoline
Throw up in the limousine
Jack off to a magazine
Wash yourself with ... turpentine
Goddamnit
Ughhhh this last verse. Amazing. It's back to classic goofy Tom, but it feels *very* different given the context of the rest of the song. Theater of the absurd. It really pulls together the meaning of the entire song. Its not so much some silly lyrics, and more like a desperate attempt to feel something. Anything. Self-deprecating at best and horribly self destructive at worst.
Just from the perspective of a rhyming scheme, the structure is *chef's kiss*. They're showing off a certain mastery of language in this song that I would've expected from more ....respectable artists.
The song as a whole is about searching for meaning but struggling to find it. Filling the void in your heart with whatever you can, but never being fulfilled. Doing all this dumb shit, acting a fool even if you're not, because you feel so broken on the inside. It's this delicious dichotomy between deeply meaningful and hopelessly meaningless. Now THAT is classic blink (just look at Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, which somehow has a really heavy song about about a broken family dynamic but also a song about grandpa just ate seven fucking hotdogs).
You can hear it throughout the entire album, theres this  apology to each other. It's all of them saying "I lost track of what was important. I forgot who I was because of dumb shit that didn't matter." And turpentine is that introspective lynchpin.
Anyway y'all thanks for reading, that was a lot to come out of an account that mostly reblogs weird Danny phantom content.

2022 Year in Review Tag!
thanks so much @magic-is-something-we-create i feel like this year has been a huge jumble ngl but let’s be positive about it lol :’)
also this is just a general list not top 5 cuz i didn’t do much this year
5 movies i watched
in terms of new movies:
american psycho — i actually enjoyed this movie a lot but it’s genuinely bc this movie is much funnier than i thought it would be. all deeper meanings and commentary aside patrick bateman is a fucking specimen
kwaidan — obsessed with this movie ngl. the first three segments are top tier (kurokami, yukionna & HOICHI THE EARLESS ESPECIALLY IF YOU WATCH NO OTHER PART PLEASE WATCH THIS ONE I CANNOT PRAISE IT ENOUGH). however the last one was super lackluster in comparison to the other three. tbh i feel like if the last one was the first one it would be a really good progression from okay to the best bc you really can’t follow hoichi the earless with anything imo.
tales from crypt (1972) — watched a lot of old horror this year (bc my partner is a horror movie buff and has been getting me into them for awhile now lolol) but this movie was a lot of fun! i want more ridiculous anthologies and movies tbh. make movies fun again tm.
jeepers creepers — never seen it before and MY GOD was screaming the whole time i was watching bc no?? we do not need to investigate you KNOW it’s a creature. all of this might’ve been avoided if y’all just minded your damn business 😔
then off the top of my head i rewatched my comfort movie sherlock holmes bc fuck iron man, rdj’s sherlock is his best role to me. i definitely wanna watch more movies next year.

jujutsu kaisen — i love it but at what cost. also i’m a simp for nanami oof
death parade / nana — i’ve only watched the first episodes of each but nana stresses me out (lovingly) and i think death parade is fascinating i just need to make more time to watch shit lol
5 songs of 2022 (*separate from spotify wrapped*)
odo — ado -> got introduced to this song recently and just absolutely obsessed with it. it’s the song that may be sparking a change in one of my wips that i mentioned lol
devil — max changmin -> came out in january and this song owns the whole fucking year idc idc idc
go back — se so neon -> UGH THIS BAND their songs slap so hard but go back is genuinely just so good

better — boa -> CRACK. THERES CRACK IN THIS SONG. but boa >>>>>>
5 albums or artists of 2022
i don’t have 5 but these three specifically:
devil (the 2nd mini album) — max changmin -> this album owns my ass. cannot believe he started the year like this. how fucking dare lol.
the gazette, always my beloveds
lowlife princess: noir — bibi -> she snapped with this one. every song and mv snapped. bibi vengence & animal farm especially
5 books i read
definitely didn’t read 5 books lol didn’t have time or space mentally. however i will say i started to read bram stoker’s dracula this year, got stuck on the part about paprika, thought it was hilarious and never finished chapter 1. it’s super good from the bit i read so far, i’m just easily amused and don’t have patience 😔
5 characters from media
nanami (jjk) — feral about a man a single man
like everyone in demon slayer but tanjiro komado my fucking BELOVED 😭

gojo / rengoku share a spot only bc i love them but ow pain :)
sorry i don’t listen to podcasts lol
and finally
5 positive things that happened in 2022 no matter how small:
got conveyor belt sushi for the first time! i wish it was closer by but maybe it’s better i’d be there every day
created a new writeblr so i could start getting more confident talking about my stories. i think it’s marginally worked! i’m working on myself still but i feel like i’ve been more open and indulgent this year
5 years with my partner!
had a pretty good birthday for the first time in years
despite the struggles working from home has done a lot for my mental health and i want to try and secure another wfh job in the future.
this is an open tag! i hope everyone had a decent year to some extent 💛

Sterling and Hozier
I have a confession.
If you had asked me a year ago who Hozier was, my response would've been, "Isn't that a band?"
Yeah, I know. I, too, am shocked by this. Through a combination of life events and my own tendency to hole up in my own little world, I somehow missed the existence of this man for nearly a decade.
Now, the thing is, I don't know if I would have fallen in love with Hozier's music if I wasn't writing Choices when I finally listened to him. That's not to say I wouldn't have enjoyed it—I certainly would have as it scratches a very specific itch in my brain—but I don't know that I would love it. Why is that?
Well.
After Spotify spent a solid month begging me to listen to something other than Mumford and Sons (I fixate on artists and Spotify hates me for it), I gave in to its algorithm and checked out Hozier's artist page. At that time, three of his top five songs were from his first album: "Take Me to Church," "Work Song," and "Cherry Wine." I enjoyed what I heard, so I put on the entire album to give it a spin.
By the end of the second song, "Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene," I had stopped everything else I was doing, pulled up the lyrics, and sat down to listen to the album in its entirety.
Listening to it, I felt like I'd run into Sterling at the saloon, and he'd decided to pour out his life story to me. Each song reflected some aspect of his character/background/personality that I had in my head but hadn't necessarily made it onto the page yet. "Sedated" and "Cherry Wine," in particular, resonated with how I imagined his prior relationship with Kai (his ex before moving home). This shows up in my most recent chapter of Choices: Summer, and even more so in Choices: Fall as a whole.
More in-depth thoughts on individual tracks (and spoilers for Sterling's mod) beneath the cut:
Honestly, of all the songs on the album, "Take Me to Church" resonates the least for me when it comes to Sterling, outside of how utterly devoted he becomes to whomever he falls in love with. But really, "Work Song" hits those notes better as it reflects how much he wants/needs something, someone, to show him grace.
"Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene," "Jackie and Wilson," and "Someone New" jive so well with how I envision his mentality/how he presented himself to people in Zuzu City. He was just around to get fucked anyway he could, man.
"Sedated," meanwhile, shows the contrast/conflict between that desire to distract himself and his wish that someone would give him a reason to leave all that behind. The echo of the bridge behind the final chorus sounds so much like him begging for Kai to save him from himself even as he seduces Kai into that very lifestyle.
"Cherry Wine," on the other hand, is a reflection not only of how Kai treated Sterling, but also how Sterling treated Kai in the end. Sterling has two lines in his mod that directly influenced this interpretation (and it is definitely an interpretation, not explicitly stated. I more thoroughly explore this idea in Fall):
"Look, you're incredibly cute and all darling. And I really enjoy hitting it off with you but… I can't do relationships right now. Not after Kai… I don't ever want to be that toxic person again. Not to you. Never to you."
That's one of the options for how he responds if you offer him a bouquet after reaching 4 hearts. This next tidbit, however, is a bit of dialogue that can pop up in the saloon:
"Is there a lucky someone in your life, farmer? There's been a few in my own life, though I'd say lucky is the operating word. I'd guess it's a bad combination of attracting toxic people when you're a bit of a toxic person yourself. Sorry, just thinking about my ex. He was a really nice guy, broke up with him before I moved to the valley. It was honestly for the best, the best thing I could do for him that is."
Sterling has so many issues. I love him.
"To Be Alone," could honestly reflect his thoughts/emotions towards either Kai or Callie, depending at on what point in their respective relationships you viewed them from. "From Eden" and "It Will Come Back," however, are very much how he views Callie and his emotional attraction to her. While he knows better than to view her as pure or innocent the way he did Kai in the beginning, he still puts her on a pedestal as someone Good and thinks that all he'd do is sully or break her. Yet, he cannot resist wanting what she represents.
"Like Real People Do" is very much the soundtrack for Sterling and Callie's night together in chapter 18 of Choices: Spring.
But "Work Song" really is the culmination of how Sterling feels about Callie, though Choices will take a long, long time to reach a point where he can even admit it to himself.
(Side Note–I picked an opportune moment to discover Hozier for the record: almost exactly one month before Unreal Unearth came out. I spent two weeks memorizing his first album, another two weeks memorizing Wasteland, Baby!, and then dove head first into Unreal Unearth upon release. Saw him in concert three months later, and plan to see him again for my upcoming birthday.)
If you're interested in how I relate other characters of Choices with specific albums, check here.

https://www.tumblr.com/sageistrii/745678516916502528/taes-release-got-me-thinking-technically-he-got
I’ve been thinking a lot about this too. The only theory I have is that CDs are expensive to manufacture. I assume a single like tae’s has a budget attached. And with that budget you can do certain things. It’s probably dependent on the projected return on investment. And CDs did not fit within the budget calculation.
On the other hand, we know they are hellbent on making a jk a giant star, so each single was important for them to go all out for to make sure he consistently charts high for their K-Justin Bieber narrative. The investment was “worth it” to them.
For TTH- I looked into it and it seems to be based on a “pitch process” to the Spotify editorial team. They are pretty vague about it, so I’m sure there is power plays/payola involved and that someone like scooter has more pull with them. One of Cardi’s new songs wasn’t added to TTH upon release and her fans were angry/surprised. But somehow JK got the cover when SNTY came out and his fans said it’s because his other songs performed well.
All that being said, it’s still weird to me that tae’s Korean songs were on TTH and the new song was not, unless there was really money involved the first time.
For jimin I have no idea. If any part the TTH “pitch process” is real and objective, I could see him getting added because of the BB#1 and the consistently high streams of LC. But that would require BH to pitch him in the first place.
https://newsroom.spotify.com/2023-03-08/how-to-get-playlisted-on-spotify-editorial-new-releases-2023/
I can get with the budget part but I really do not buy the whole "pitch" thing.
I checked out that link thinking it was going to take me to some forum like reddit but it's from Spotify themselves which means these are their own claims and what they want us to think. Spotify has never and of course will never say they practice pay for playlisting but everyone knows they do.
How do songs that are not doing well on global Spotify continue to be on TTH but songs that do consistently well are not?. If we go by what Spotify claims then taehyung's song should have been added because he has a song that has been quite stable on Spotify global for a few months now.
The blackpink girls all got TTH playlisting upon release when they had not released any music prior. Simply put it depends on your label and how much they're willing to give to Spotify. I don't think they're being paid upfront either, and yes I do think it's easier to get put on tth without pay if you start gaining consistent streams in the top 50 if you go through through this "pitch process" But I think getting a good placement from the first day and also a song being allowed to stay on the playlist for months even when it's barely hanging on global Spotify chart requires some agreement between the label and Spotify and it involves monetary incentives. Maybe Spotify takes a cut of your earnings.
Spotify is a business, they have things put in place (like playlists and autoplay) to make more money off these artists because they know that everyone wants more people to discover their music, and with the current obsession with Spotify charts and everyone wanting to see those huge numbers next to their name, they do not mind utilizing playlisting and autoplay and Spotify isn't giving it to them for free and just because they made a "pitch".
Bts never got a good TTH placement before dynamite for a reason, and it also wasn't because it was an English song either. It was because bighit finally decided that this was the song they wanted to go all out for and they were finally aiming for a billboard number 1.
Cardi's label have seen her prior performances, she's had recent releases that were playlisted, not giving her playlisting for one song after the others bombed even with playlisting was expected.
When Beyonce's new song came out it was added at number 13, and it made sense because first of all Beyonce hasn't really been an artist to play these chart games and Renaissance was her first official comeback in the streaming era. She did great on Spotify with renaissance but not that exceptional that she would want to go all out with a number 1 placement with just her second foray in the streaming era, and then when her team saw the song doing great they took it to number 1. I don't think you would get added to number 1 on the day of release if you haven't done great on Spotify consistently before eg artists like Ariana, Taylor, the Weeknd, Adele but you could get a good placement if your label knows what needs to be done and if they don't then nothing happens.

An Idea For Better Music Streaming
I sadly don’t have the abilities to live out this idea — at least not alone. So everyone who finds this, is welcome to steal it or riff with me!
I’m currently trying to transfer from Spotify to Tidal. The main reason is that I want to use a service that pays artists better — and it’s a nice bonus that the sound quality is better. However, I prefer Spotify’s app and features. 1 And this inspired me to write out an idea I’ve been thinking about for a while.
Inspired by Mastodon, Apple’s MusicKit API and PeerTube
Third-party first
The official Mastodon client is perfectly fine — but nothing more. And I’d say the same thing (or less) about the Facebook app. But there’s a major difference: Third parties can make clients for Mastodon, using an open-source API. And not only can — the explicit plan is for the default client to be basic, and then let other people build around and on top of it. So where Facebook users are stuck in mediocrity, Mastodon users have tons of options, so everyone can find something that suits their preferences and budgets. 2
In addition to this, third-party clients push the whole platform forwards, with many great ideas. I’m not joking, when I’m saying that my top 5 social media apps are all Mastodon clients.
Here are some of my favourites
For Apple platforms:
Ice Cubes
Mammoth
Mona
Ivory
Web clients:
Phanpy.social
Elk.zone
Android clients I haven’t tried, but heard good stuff about:
Fedilab
Tusky
Moshidon
Tumblr media
Like Apple, but not
Apple has a pretty cool API, called MusicKit. This allows developers to make third-party music players, while using the Apple Music library. Marvis is one example, and Soor is another.
But what if there was a similar, «complete» music library, that every developer could access for free, through an open-source API? And what if this library was run by a non-profit, who simply gave all the profits directly to the artists? 3
Creek Music
OK, so allow me to explain my idea! The working title is Creek Music, as I Iike the idea of sending small streams of music around the world. 4 (And when I noticed that creekmusic.org was available, I had to grab it!)
OK, so let’s say we get access to the same 100 million songs that the big streaming services advertises. 5 This is gathered into a library, called The Source, which the Creek API 6 gives clients (apps) access to. These would be like the third-party Apple Music or Mastodon clients — but ideally, there wouldn’t have to be a first party/default client, so not sure if «third party» is the right term then.
But this is important: Users would subscribe for access to The Source directly — and not through the clients. This is to increase portability, and so that you can log into your library from anywhere. Perhaps you like one client on your phone, but another on your laptop? And if you’re in someone else’s web browser, you prefer a third? 7
That there are great free (and even open-source) Mastodon clients, like Ice Cubes, shows that there could be free client options here as well. But I would prefer it if every part of this stays ad and tracking-free — so I don’t think I would allow ad-supported clients. I would assume some of the best would be paid apps. But today’s streaming companies have both music rights and client development baked into their price — so the total cost shouldn’t need to be higher than what it is today. 8
What I think the API would need to serve
Access to songs
OK, so remember that I’m just dreaming here, and absolutely don’t know what I’m talking about… But PeerTube has this really cool tech, «powered by WebTorrent, that uses peer-to-peer technology to reduce load on individual servers when viewing videos.»!
Lower server costs = More profits for artists, and also less environmental impact. So that’s why I’d love it if something like this could be used when serving the songs themselves to clients.
Resonate (which I don’t think is doing too well), had some really cool ideas — including an interesting stream2own model, which is part of the inspiration for my payment idea. I’ll use myself as an example — and for simplicity, let’s assume $10/month of my payment goes to artists:
In March, I only listened to:
Fountains of Wayne — Stacy’s Mom: 3 times
Fountains of Wayne — All Kinds Of Time: 2 times.
Fountains of Wayne would then get my entire $10.
Not only that, we would also register that Stacy’s Mom specifically has earned $6 from me, and All Kinds Of Time $4.
The idea behind the last point, is that I want listeners to eventually have heard a song enough times to then own them. If you’ve listened to an album to death (and then provided income for the artist), it doesn’t seem fair that you lose access to it if you stop your subscription.
Here’s a simple mockup I made, using Tidal as a template:
Tumblr media
Wohoo! I’ve listened to Stacy’s Mom and All Kinds Of Time enough so that I know own them! And the others are on the way. 9
Let’s say a song having earned $2 is enough to then own it. That would mean a user would «get» 5 songs every month on average, no matter how much they listened. This would remove the incentive to just stream 24/7 to get ownership.
In the backend, we could convert $1 to 1 million tokens. So a bar takes 2 million tokens to fill up, and at the end of the month, 10 million tokens gets distributed depending on what you listened to.
(It would be neat if it could fill up during the month as well — but I’m not sure how that would work…)
Users should be able to click on the bar to purchase the song. And if the bar is filled up halfway, it only costs $1, etc.
You could do the same to purchase an album — and I think there could be a way for artists to set their own prices.
We’d probably need some crazy algorithm to factor in song length etc. -but you get the idea!
However, if I in April only listen to Stacy’s Mom and The Shin’s A Comet Appears — do The Shins get all my $10, since I now own Stacy’s Mom? 🤔
**So, if a user, through a client, requests to be served a song, we would check if they have access to it — either through the song being owned, or by having an active subscription. **
We would also need some sort of offline component. (And it would also be neat if users could upload files somehow.)
Playlists
The API should also have a spec for playlists so that they can be easily shared across different clients and so that it’s portable. It would be great if clients had algorithms to create them — but if you save them to your user, it gets written to your Creek account. This would make it so you automatically have all your playlists if you switch to or log into a different client. It would also make it possible to share playlists with users, regardless of which client they use. You should also be able to subscribe to playlists and have cooperative ones.
Collections
Artists can gather songs in collections — that can be albums, EPs or whatever. It’s just a list of songs, a name for that list, and its own artwork. If a song has several artworks connected to it, I’m thinking users can choose which they like if they have them in a playlist.
Interlude: Portal for everyone!
I play in a band called Klondike, and we’re six members. All our six personal users have access to the band’s page,10 and here we can upload songs, artwork, collections, etc. But we can also upload songs and set them as private (only accessible by the members of the band, users we’ve approved, or just one person). This can be useful to share demos, or otherwise upload sound files. 11
There should also be some sort of artist verification process…
Connections
I also want artists to be able to post updates to a microblog feed on their artists page. And I want this to use ActivityPub, so that people can follow the artist page from services like Mastodon or Micro.blog. I would rather not create another iTunes Ping — so it’s important that the content get sent out of Creek, while still showing within it.
We could make this more convenient, by allowing cross-posting from other services. 12
It would be convenient to be able to sell merch/vinyls within the app — but that does complicate things further. So, might be just as good to use the microblogging feature to link out to stores.
Links
It’s critical that links to songs, playlists, collections, posts, users, artists, etc. are universal, across clients — so that I could share a song with the world, and know that everyone could open it in their clients.
Habits
There should also be some sort of API to (privately) track listening habits, so that clients can use this to create algorithms. But this info must be transferrable!
Sessions
You should be able to have live sessions — either just you and your friends, or public on the web. As a host and admin, I’m thinking you can:
Create a link that let’s people join as listeners
Create a link that let’s people join as co-hosts
Choose if listeners can come with suggestions
DJ component
There should be one…. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Here’s what I’m thinking about the costs:
The cost of hosting and serving the songs would get deducted from the artist’s payment.
If the songs earn less than their cost, the artist would need to pay for the songs to stay up.
I’m interested to hear about what people think about this model! This would do a whole lot of «cutting out the middle man», with the process of «getting a song on Spotify» being pretty complicated. However, it would put some risk on artists — but the costs to host some songs shouldn’t be that bad..? And I think removing the risk from the non-profit is pretty essential.
Some notes on what I would leave to the clients
I want others to create the Music Enjoying Apps, and simply compete on functions and user experience here. The app makers wouldn’t be able to lock you in with network effects («All my friends use Spotify, and I want to be able to share playlists with them!») or that your «collection» is stuck within an app («I’ve made so many playlists on Apple Music, and all my purchased songs are there!»). And since every service would pay artists well (and equally), being the best place to enjoy music, is the only incentive.
Who has the best apps for the devices you use?
«Best» differs from person to person. Some might want something simple and sleek, while others want maximum customisability and organisation tools.
The aforementioned app Marvis has some neat stuff, like smart playlists. I think that if the API provides the folders and the playlists themselves, the apps can be free to write to folders and playlists the way they please.
Who supports the wireless protocols you need?
Who has the best algorithms for creating playlists and finding new music?
Who has the best curated playlists?
Who has the best sharing tools and integrations with other services?
It would be a bit like today, where some use Spotify, some Apple Music and some Tidal, except:
they would be able to share links between each other,
playlists, purchases, habits, etc. would follow the user if you switch clients,
and artists would only need to upload their music, artwork and posts in one place 13,
A carmaker could also make a client for their infotainment system — and everyone would have their playlists automatically! Stereo, TV, and phone makers could also do the same, of course!
So, what do you think??
As you can see, this is just me spitballing, and dumping all my ideas onto «paper». I might be an «idea guy» and have some web and basic design skills — but I have no idea on how to actually make this thing! There’s guaranteed a thousand technical reasons why this won’t work, and a million reasons why it’s a bad idea in general.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this — and I’m happy if someone steals this idea, and even happier if someone wants to build it with me. Hit me up on Mastodon!
-Erlend
I might more on why some other time. ↩︎
I mean, there’s even clients for Apple II, DOS, palmOS, Amigaand Windows 95! ↩︎
When I say «artists», I guess I really mean «rights holders». Because we all know everything doesn’t go to the artists themselves! ↩︎
And the only results I could find with that name, was something that looks like a defunct music label ↩︎
Theoretically we should be able to pay better, as all the profits go to the artists. ↩︎
Which I obviously have no idea on how to build. ↩︎
I wouldn’t mind a client allowing users to sign up through the app - as long as the direct Creek user gets created. Apple would hate this though, so I don’t know. ↩︎
$12/month seems like the base line - so I could imagine a Creek subscription costing $10, and then $2 for a client. ↩︎
But fuck Hayley’s waitress. Not the song, but the person in the song. ↩︎
Reservoir ,is my working title for this. ↩︎
Piracy issues..? ↩︎
But this does create duplicates of posts - so another idea would just be to integrate a Mastodon user directly..? ↩︎
You know, since I assume world domination. ✌🏻 ↩︎

I LOVE music statistics of something that doesn't matter so I'm doing a deep dive of my Obscurify with all of you. Take my hand.
Reminder: I live in Canada so it's set to that by default and I would still say it accurately describes my music tastes.
Tumblr media
So while the top genres hardly surprise me, I also need to know what the hell "pov: indie" stands for. If it's meant to describe music that puts you in a specific perspective of something and it's independent music, then I don't know how accurate that is. Primarily because I know why I have indie and indietronica on here. (I was wrong - I thought pov: indie was because of Chonny Jash but checking, he doesn't have a genre labelled to him - it's actually from Mother Mother and IDKHOW)
Also I have literally never heard of "alt z" as a genre. What is that. That's a keyboard command as far as I'm concerned.
Now on that poll, I saw that my music taste is 94%, meaning I'm a pretty unique Canadian with a music taste. However, what I'm more interested in is the summary because it's got this
Tumblr media
Honestly impressive Madeon got that high up this year. Like - Chonny doesn't surprise me in the slightest and that's primarily because I've seen my last.fm. Spotify Wrapped will confirm that for me too. But man I've just really been into Madeon. I listened to him more than I thought but maybe I shouldn't be surprised - Pay No Mind is a bop and I'm glad I finally listened to Adventure.
Tracks are fun to look at. Two Marianas Trench songs and I know exactly why it's those two specifically (OC playlists. That's why.) StopRewind is for a similar reason but not so much villain and Villainous Thing but I did listen to them a lot.
Tumblr media
Current is also interesting to look at because aside from the tracks, the artists is literally just the same as it says on last.fm right now. ...In all-time. But keep in mind, I didn't know how to actually connect my Spotify account onto last.fm until this year and a month after I made thta account and even if it wasn't a month, it was definitely in August which I'm reminded more and more is a little less and more time than I think.
Funny enough, this is also less unique by 1% than my All-Time.
Next section is "Most Obscure" which immediately gave me a laugh because for Artists, it looks like this.
Tumblr media
Ah yes - three members from Aqours, Aqours as a whole and Mr Marianas Trench himself and suspected Loverboy member by Todd in the Shadows, Josh Ramsay. He sticks out like a sore thumb it's really funny.
But then I have a question about the tracks...
Tumblr media
Why is Razzmatazz on here? 'Cause just by like - you know. What I know - I know for a fact more people have listened to IDKHOW than Chonny (I actually don't know with Circus-P to be honest but I'm confident in IDKHOW compared to Chonny). And Razzmatazz is such a weird one to be on "most obscure" considering it's the title track of an album, and even if it's the singles version (because of how Spotify works), I still don't get how that can be considered the most obscure??
Fuck - let alone IDKHOW being there at all??? What - it couldn't be Right As Rain? Another Chonny song? I know there are songs on CCCC that not many people listen to compared to others.
Anyways I'm skipping artists and songs 'cause I have nothing to say about them. They're less interesting to me.
Here's what I think is the funniest.
Tumblr media
SO for one thing, don't worry about how I'm doing. I'm mostly fine.
However I'm confused by the wording here. Not the idea my music taste is getting sadder or angrier - but what "Your favorite example means". Does this mean it's my favorite example in how my music taste is getting sadder... or is it my favorite example in how happy my music taste can be??? Because I don't know if Zamza by Nightcord ft KAITO is the greatest example.
By the way this isn't the only time Zamza by Nightcord ft KAITO appears.
It's in Danceability too
Tumblr media
Considering Chonny is Mr Slut for a Keychange, I'm guessing that's on him. Though it's funny to once again see Zamza being used as my favorite example. Like - twice in a row? Awesome.
It has absolutely nothing to say about me listening to upbeat music by the way. That hardly surprises me as I prefer my music with a lot of energy in it. And coincidentally, that typically involves more electronic sounds.
Though I suppose according to this, my "perfect example" for Acousticness is "Up to No Good" by The Hoosiers. Interesting...
Anyways taking a look at everything else, that's about all I'm interested in sharing. Bar the fact it says my favorite decades of music is the 2010s which I thought was neat but I think it was mostly because that was the time period I got Spotify so of course I'd focus more on stuff there. Also the 2020s aren't done yet.
Okay post is over. I hope this doesn't suddenly become long for people despite there being a Read More. I know I have a Ramblings tag but I don't want to use that anymore. It became hard to distinguish between that and this.

FEATURE INTERVIEW
You’re more than a rap artist, how would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as authentically different, that's because I show up, and I shout out and I'm authentically myself. I don't want to sound like nobody, I don't want to be like nobody, I just want to be Big Boss Vette.
You are definitely giving authentic. When I think about a playlist that includes Big Boss Vette, I think of Azalea Banks, what other artists come to mind for you?
If we are going to mix and match Big Boss Vette, we gonna ass in some Latto, we're gonna add in some Cardi, City Girls, Maiya The Don, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj... we gonna add all the girlies okay!
You're giving you're ready to be on go at any time. You’re hard at work promoting your debut project, Resilience, how did it feel to perform your new works for the Rolling Loud audience?
To be honest, I've been teasing these tracks for a very long time. To perform them I was ready! I already know I create great music and bring out great energy. When I hit that stage, I demand for my cousins to rock out with me, turn up with me, and give me their full, undivided attention. It's my time to shine. They loved it! I was grateful, it was an honor honestly.
I just heard that BET premiered your "Get It" video in Times Square -
In Times Square Baby!!! Ahhhh
Let's go! How does it feel to have your first ever billboard in Times Square?
It feels amazing! The whole time I was just screaming, I couldn't contain it, it's Times Square it's an honor. They actually tricked me, they said that we were going to be out there to film content, and then they had me turn around and look and I was so excited and I couldn't contain it! To have that type of support while I'm building means everything to me.
It's great that you got to start your day off with such a celebraroty moment!
Yes!
You also have an exclusive EP Release Playback tonight for Republic NYC Studios. I'm excited for you to pop out. My favorite tracks from the EP are “Fly Shhh”, “Get It”, “Can't FWM” & “Dollas”. If you could choose your top tracks which would they be?
I would do "Get It" because that song is everything, it's house, work out, family function, it's commercial it's everything. That record is so big and can be pushed so many places.
I like “Can't FWM” because when you're feeling down it's gonna snap you out of your bag. I would also say "Dollas" and "Another One". I love both of those because it's giving. we're in the club, hookah in hand.
You’re from St. Louis, Missouri, how would you say St. Louis is different from NY?
First things first, we don't have such a big scenery there. St. Louis is like an off market type of place. To be honest, if I didn't blow up off of social media, I don't know how I would be here today.
Our accents are also very much different, I'm country as hell.
I'm here for the southern girl accent!
Thank you, thank you!
What’s something you look forward to doing in NYC when you’re not performing and running press?
Eating. I be ready. I'm an open person so I will try any place. I also want to see the scenery and meet new people. Networking and creating content in this nice city.
I first discovered your song “Snatched” at a queer party in Brooklyn. What impact does it have for you that your music resonates in the queer community?
I love it because I am pansexual, so my love has no limits. To be accepted and streamed by everyone means so much. Not too many people can resonates with my cousins (her word for fans/supporters).
You are signed to Republic Records. In previous interviews you mentioned getting signed means things get harder (meeting deadlines, getting clearances, marketing yourself etc). Would you say things have gotten easier?
Now yes, absolutely. When I first started, absolutely not. You are starting over at the bottom in a new playing field. I had thought that when you get signed, you are Beyonce, and that's not what happens. You gotta get your name out there, having dates for drops, clearances if you use certain sounds or references in your songs. everything is different on a corporate level. They also reach certain points you can't reach if you was not signed.
What advice do you have for independent artists looking for more exposure?
I would say just keep posting cause I went viral off of being broke. I had propped by phone up. I had a Playstation 2 to have the beat and I was just posting, I didn't have a plan behind it I was just doing it. When I started going viral, that's when the money started to come. At one point I traveled fourteen hours via car for seven-hundred dollars. Just do it. There will be days you wake up and see certain things on blogs and you may feel like "why I'm not there?" Don't take the media serious. Just do it.
Some of your recent & upcoming festival performances include - ROLLING LOUD (LA, SAN FRANCISCO, MIAMI), LOLLAPALOOZA, AND SUNDOWN ALASKA. What’s one city you haven’t performed in that you look forward to performing in the near future?
I wanna perform in Jamaica. Every artist that I've seen go to Jamaica has had a ball out there.
To end with glam...
What is your favorite perfume?
Carolina Herrera, when I first seen it, it was the heel that caught my attention. I went to see what it smelled like and instantly I was obsessed. I just have her every where I go. I don't put her in my checked bag because she smells to good and I don't need anyone to steal her.
What’s your favorite fashion trend?
I like the 90s spice baby, pop star era, that kind of just sticks with me.
What are some beauty tips you can share with the Galore audience?
On a very hot day baby, don't do a full face baby. Get you a concealer of your choice, put it right up under your eye, your cheeks, your forehead, get some setting powder and that's it. You don't need nothing else cause it's going to melt off. Get you some setting spray and baby keep it with you. It's going to get you together I promise.
Now that I know that your face is glowing without the foundation, what's your night routine.
I use this black soap and then I go in with an oil cleanser.
What is your zodiac sign, and how do you feel that influences your creative process.
I am a libra, balance, and I just wanna say, if I can't figure it out, then I just won't do it. I need to feel good about what I'm doing. I don't mind doing new things, but if it just feels so foreign, I'm not forcing creativity because that's when you start putting out trash. I just wait for it to come to me.

Know More About ZuP And His Latest Album - For Me Singer/ rapper and songwriter ZuP is an artist who doesn’t classify himself ‘Musician’ but rather a Music Maker, because of the type of music he produces, his songs are so nice that they can’t be categorized into a particular genre. He started making music at a very young age, and since he started, he realized it was something he really connected with, he felt whole whenever he was doing something music related. ZuP took made a conscious effort of moving away from the music scene for some time because he found himself in some dark places. But fortunately, he found his way back in 2020. ZuP is mainly focused on making music that other people can relate to, songs you can relate to emotionally or can dance to, you can call it two-in-one. “When I started making music, I was writing rap songs that I had no business making. Rapping about the 24” rims on my Cadillac… when in all reality I had factory rims on a Chevy Corsica haha. Then it evolved into a little bit of singing mixed in with semi-relatable lyrics in my raps, to being vulnerable myself and putting myself out there a little bit more and mostly singing with a sprinkle of rap in there.” – This according to ZuP is how his music evolved. In a recent interview with Mister Styx of Musicarenagh ZuP delve deeper into his personal life and touched on his latest album “For Me” which he stated he made for himself, although he claims he made the album for himself, I feel the album was made for me as well, so I guess the album was made for us all. For Me has a total of 11 songs on it and spans over 39 minutes 38 seconds, and my favourite off the album is Better Off, but I have to admit all the songs on For me are fire, the rap, the bass, the production, everything is top notch, this 6 years hiatus really paid off. ZuP had more to say in the interview, get the full story below: Listen to For Me below https://open.spotify.com/album/2iSzC9K03fl2Ekus8zcDmM ALTERNATIVE POP ALTERNATIVE INDIE R&B HIP-HOP ROCK POP INDIE POP POP COMMERCIAL POP SINGER-SONGWRITER Band (Full Band Sound) RAP US RAP MALE VOCALS EASY LISTENING SUPER CATCHY US BASED ANTHEMIC GROOVE   Follow ZuP on Facebook Twitter Spotify Youtube Instagram Songkick What is your stage name ZuP Is there a story behind your stage name? It’s part of my last name. When I was in high school I had a friend that used to call me Yung Zup… and it just stuck. Well, ZuP did, not the “Yung” haha! Where do you find inspiration? I find inspiration in everyday things. We as human beings love the feeling of connection. It reassures us that we are not alone. I try to draw inspiration from conversations I may have had, or break ups, or tragedies in my life. I could be having just a really good day for no reason at all, and want to write about it to bottle that feeling up for others to enjoy. What was the role of music in the early years of your life? Music played a huge role in my early years. My parents used to have cassette tapes with a bunch of their favorite songs and I would put my Walkman on and fall asleep listening to them. As I got a little older, I would ride my bike to the local record store and buy CDs that I had never heard of before to expand my range of music! Are you from a musical or artistic family? Sort of. My grandmother on my mother’s side of the family is an incredible painter. My mother was also heavily involved in the theater when she was younger. My father always wanted to be a radio DJ but never fully pursued that avenue. Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry? That’s a tough question but I guess I would have to say The Beastie Boys. I used to listen to their albums and write all the lyrics down. I would even change my handwriting for each member's lyrics. That then got me into writing my own rhymes and lyrics. How did you learn to sing/write/to play? A lot of practice/ trial and error. I would listen to so much music and overtime I knew what I l
iked. I like how this musician sings in this key, or I like how the drums sound in these songs, or I like what this artist is saying. I took the things I loved about music and tried to emulate them. When I first started out I didn’t know anyone who produced or made beats, so I sort of figured it out myself. I then bought a piano and took piano lessons and chipped away at it all day every day. [caption id="attachment_48231" align="alignnone" width="720"] A lot of practice/ trial and error. I would listen to so much music and overtime I knew what I liked[/caption] What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform? I actually went to a couple concerts of my friends' bands before I ever saw a national act live. The first concert (with national acts) that I ever went to though was thrown by a local Cleveland Ohio radio station (Z107.9) and it was a bunch of big rappers and R&B singers at the time. I can’t remember everyone, but I do remember David Banner was incredible. Still one of the funnest performances I’ve ever seen. How could you describe your music? I never know how to answer this question. My music is a mixture of a bunch of different genres. A little bit of pop mixed with alternative mixed with hip-hop mixed with R&B mixed with a little reggae. No matter the style though, I try to make it relatable. Describe your creative process. It all depends on the song. My process on this new album mostly started with a concept idea and then I’d start humming different melodies while sprinkling keywords in until I found something I really liked. I always make sure I get the chorus done first. I’ll pull out my MPC and start working on the beat and then start piecing in the rest of the song from there. What is your main inspiration? My friends and family. They all inspire me to be the best version of myself. What musician do you admire most and why? I really admire Kenrick Lamar. This is a guy who isn’t afraid to take risks within the hip-hop genre. Each of his albums have a different theme and feel. His vulnerability and honesty is what really draws me into his music. When he puts out an album, I know it’s going to be an “album” and not just a cluster of songs. I admire that about him. Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career? Oh yeah definitely. I think that comes with age, experience, and confidence. When I started making music, I was writing rap songs that I had no business making. Rapping about the 24” rims on my Cadillac… when in all reality I had factory rims on a Chevy Corsica haha. Then it evolved into a little bit of singing mixed in with semi relatable lyrics in my raps, to being vulnerable myself and putting myself out there a little bit more and mostly singing with a sprinkle of rap in there. Who do you see as your main competitor? Somebody told me that “the only person in your way is you” and I believe that. I don’t really look at other musicians as competition. As a fan of all music, I want everyone to be able to share their story. What are your interests outside of music? I love to draw, so you can catch me cooking up some art. I also love to hop on Xbox once a week with my crew and play some Sea of Thieves. I love going on adventures and trying new things with my girlfriend… grabbing drinks and wings with my friends. My calendar is always full. If it wasn't a music career, what would you be doing? If I had the choice?!?! …oh man, a storm chaser. Buckle me up in a heavy duty car and drive me into a tornado! What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music? Keeping up with the new trends. I took a few years off from music and when I came back, everything was different. I was like, “what is a TikTok?” haha, it has been an adjustment… but that’s what also makes it exciting. Life would be boring without a speed bump along the way. If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be? Local radio stations showing more love to independent music
ians. There are some great unsigned artists out there that would benefit from radio plays. I find new artists all the time from Spotify playlists or Reels on Instagram… gone are the days of discovering somebody new on the radio. Why did you choose this as the title of this project? As I stated before, I took about 6 years off of music. I was in a dark place that I had no real way of getting out of. 2020 Changed that for me and I had the opportunity to start creating again. The one thing I told myself when I started this album was, “don’t do this for anybody but yourself.” I didn’t make this album because people asked me to, I made this album because I needed to. This album is “For Me”. What are your plans for the coming months? I have a couple concerts lined up for this year. First being my album release party on April 29th, which I am so excited for. Besides that, keep pushing this album every way I can! Do you have any artistic collaboration plans? I have a couple lined up, but besides that I am always down to collab! What message would you like to give to your fans? To everyone who has been along for this journey for years, thank you. It means everything to me that you are still around and listening to what I have created. To anyone new reading this that just recently heard my music or is going to listen after this interview, I hope you enjoy it. The universe has put me in pretty nasty situations in the past and I felt like it was my duty to share those stories with you all. I hope my music resonates with you. I hope you cry, I hope you laugh, I hope you dance, I hope you feel seen. Thank you so much for reading! See ya’ll soon!
