Propaganda
Katharine Hepburn (Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, The African Queen)—(I hope someone else submits real propaganda but just in case they don't:) Cries. Screams. Wails. The woman who singlehandedly made me realize I was bi. A real "do i want to look like her. be her. or be with her.' crisis, where the answer was all three. Holy shit please all three.
Diahann Carroll (Paris Blues, Carmen Jones, Porgy and Bess)— Face of an angel. She had the range. She brought chemistry with every romance she portrayed. She also had a great fashion sense, and was so pretty Mattel made a doll based off of her.
This is round 6 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Diahann Carroll:
Tumblr media
Another groundbreaking black actress, although she might be better remembered for her television roles. She was also an activist and worked with charities to support women in need.

here she is hanging out with shadow prince anthony perkins :3

Katharine Hepburn propaganda:
Tumblr media
I'm sure one million people will submit her as an iconic Hollywood star but that iconicness might lead people to forget just how insanely hot she was like she had it ALL she was skilled she was funny she was smart she was beautiful AND she was likely bisexual
Tumblr media
The single word I would use to explain Katherine Hepburn's appeal is *range*. In her acting career, that meant covering all the ground between lush period dramas and the comedies she did with Carey Grant and Spencer Tracey. In terms of hotness, it meant an uncanny ability to bring anything from a Dietrich-esque androgyny to some of the best Classic Hollywood Glamour you will ever see.
Tumblr media
Katharine hep was so cool. The VIBES, the INDEPENDENCE,,, living life on her own terms.
Tumblr media
she just had this.... bearing to her, this power. she could be funny, even silly (like in bringing up baby) but also so regal and elegant. she was nobody's fool and dear GOD that's so hot
Fancam link
Tumblr media
She’s not only stunningly gorgeous (those eyes that pierce your soul! a jawline you could cut glass with!) but her delivery and physical presence in roles gives off confidence and authority in such a sexy way (truly the biggest dick energy of Old Hollywood). Her fiery energy in The Philadelphia Story? Unmatched.
Tumblr media
God she's. She's so hot y'all. She has the range!!!!! Funny and dramatic and lovely
Tumblr media
She IS the transatlantic accent. Classically gorgeous and such a strong personality.
Tumblr media
She's literally one of the funniest women to ever live! She goes shot for shot with Cary Grant in Philadelphia Story and we damn well love her for it! She's the most annoying creature to ever live in Bringing Up Baby but she's so insane and funny that we simply cannot help but fall in love with her (and root for her to give Grant an aneurysm!)
Tumblr media
i know she's accounted for but i really want to be sure someone has submitted the scene in bringing up baby where she's pretending to be a gangster
youtube
She simply stuns onscreen; you cannot do anything but be captivated by her presence. Also a non-gender-conforming icon and mild tumblr celebrity by virtue of that one picture from The Warrior's Husband (stage play).
Tumblr media
Katharine Hepburn was out here casually changing the lives of young butch lesbians with her gender swag! She wore pants even when people said she shouldn’t, she refused to marry or have kids, and she wore menswear in at LEAST one movie!
Tumblr media
If I start thinking about her face for too long I will cry she is so so hot. Katherine is so charismatic and charming in everything she appears in - watch her adopt a leopard and fall in love with her. Also she has the biggest dick energy ever (she and her pal Lauren Bacall share that accolade). Also had an incredibly long and varied career from screw ball comedies to serious dramas - she’s a queen of the screen and I adore her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Someone's got to mention it, but she's won the most Oscars out of any performer and is largely considered one of the greatest actresses ever. She's got an incredible voice, an incredible presence, and she absolutely steals every scene she's in. She was private person and deemed standoffish and unapproachable, but she was also profoundly concerned for people's rights and was an outspoken supporter of abortion access. Finally, the Katharine Hepburn slacks look is just iconic. I mean look at her.
Tumblr media
This woman. I have been obsessed with her for years. I know the urban legend is a popular one at this point of her walking around set in her underwear when her pants were stolen and she was left with only a skirt, but the pants thing is honestly enough for her to be the hottest in the room in my book. She refused to wear anything else at a time when the public in general and especially the studios did not like that. She was independent, stubborn, and so so very capable. Competency kink anyone? Also, if you want one final way that Katharine's entire life was saying "fuck you" to the establishment, it started young! Her mother took her to suffrage events, and she never got rid of that attitude of justice. I feel like I have barely scratched the surface of all the ways she was such a badass that I'm turning into a rambling mess instead.

Dear Chronivac Support,
I am a nerd who doesn't get high grades, despite studying a lot my grades are not the best, and my roommate is a smart jock. He's muscular, handsome, well-groomed, and intelligent. I find this an affront to the balance of stereotypes. How can I adjust the Chronivac so that he slowly loses intelligence until he becomes a traditional dumb jock with grades much worse than mine?
We are in the Holy Week… And envy is a mortal sin. You're not seriously asking me to punish your roommate just because he's smarter, more handsome and more charismatic than you are? But we can do something about the fact that you look like a nerd but are more of an intellectual jock! We can equalize that!
When you wake up the next morning, it's somehow no longer your room. There are posters of ice hockey and football players on the walls. There are lots of dirty clothes, pizza boxes and beer cans on the floor. It smells a bit. But it could also be you. A deep breath from your armpit. Yep, you're not entirely innocent of the smell. You didn't shut down your computer last night. The porn site is still open. And you haven't wiped away the wank stains on the keyboard either. You're a bit disgusted with your own place right now. But only for a few moments. Hey, you're young, you're having fun, if the dirt bothers you, clean it up. And your cool flatmate doesn't mind. Even if he's a lot tidier himself.
No clean clothes in your wardrobe again. You could now ask your bruh if he has anything for you. But unfortunately, his clothes wouldn't fit you anyway. You are separated by a few kilograms of pure muscle mass. But if the lectures are boring again, you'll go to the gym and try to catch up with your muscles. And the next lectures will be boring. So you can actually go straight to university in the clothes you want to work out in afterwards.
As you stand in front of the mirror in your smelly, dirty tank top and old, washed-out sweatshorts, you think for a moment about how silly you look. The clothes are two sizes too big for you. And with your nerdy pot haircut, everything looks even worse. You grab one of your flatmate's caps. Much better! And off you go.
Shit, you chose business studies so you wouldn't have to do so much math. It's a hell of a lot of math. The exams are back today. C-. Shit, damn it! You've got so much… Well, to be honest, you haven't studied at all. Even though he's sitting three rows in front of you, you can see your roommate grinning. You can already imagine what kind of grade he got.
You took your bad mood out on the weights. Hehehe, three hours in lectures, four hours in the gym. Good ratio. If only your parents knew. They would certainly cut your monthly allowance. But who's going to tell them?
Tumblr media
When you get home, your flatmate is snoring on the sofa. His exam is on the table. A-. Well, everyone has a bad day. His snoring is contagious. You just manage to make yourself a protein shake and down it. Then a proper protein fart. Yeah, that was a good one! And then you collapse onto the sofa.
Tumblr media
You dream that you are a nerd. But not one of those who have a doctorate in physics after two semesters. One who is clumsy in sports and dumb in math. Someone with just two single hairs on their chest. One with a fluffy, fuzzy beard. And one with no muscles at all. Crazy dream! Although, the part about being dumb at math… That's true!

im so unwell about q!pac no its not even funny anymore i need to put him in a terrarium up on a shelf and keep him safe up there. he doesn't deserve any bad thing, ever. i don't even care about "having a good story" or "giving your character a conflict" anymore, nah, no, if ONE (1) MORE BAD THING HAPPENS TO HIM IM GONNA LOSE IT!! IM GONNA START BREAKING THINGS!!!
he's so. sad. hes such a sad character. his insecurities about being useless to everyone are so real and so painful because he's not, all of us know that he's not, but we also completely understand why he feels that way because he's had everyone he loves ripped away from him and he hasn't been able to lift a finger to stop any of it. he's just left to sit in the ruins without any help. he's collateral to all the tragedy surrounding him and the favela 5 in general and he's. tired. not in the way that cellbit is tired (though that works, too). he's exhausted of feeling sad all the time. of crying all the time. of feeling that loneliness that gnaws holes into his bones and settles in the marrow and never leaves, not when richas' bed is empty, not when mike's bedroom has started to collect dust, not when he can't see a real, tangible presence in forever's dilated eyes. the only person he has is cellbit, and he could never ask cellbit to give up what he still has when pac has nothing to lose (and god, how selfless, how kind is that?), so when he figures the only way to get an antidote to the drug is to have the drug itself, why wouldn't he offer himself up? and if that wasn't the only reason he tried to get his hands on it, who could blame him?
maybe he took it first to just feel the effects and understand the angle it took in affecting his mind. maybe he just took it for research. do you think he had slipped by the second time? do you think he took it once and, for a short thirty minutes, found that he could forget about all the sorrow lining his lungs and breathe? do you think reality crashed back onto him after that first try? do you think he was scrambling to take it again, to go back to that...maybe it wasn't blissful ignorance, per se, but willful disregard? do you think he couldn't wait to be submerged so deep that he couldn't think one more time? do you think he was hesitant? do you think he kept promising himself, one more, one more, one more...
god he is so. so sad. i was watching phil's pov, so everything was like a neat little movie for me, and just. cellbit and forever arguing while pac was just sobbing in the background was AWFUL. just. awful. it hurt. (cc!pac was damn good at acting, too, and that DID NOT HELP.) the moment he stepped on the trap i felt like i was hit with a brick. like no, of COURSE we should NOT be putting PAC in a CONFINED JAIL CELL. ALONE. and i know it was for his own good but i still felt so so so sick. the way he immediately curled up in the corner. the way he was crying to himself. the way he instantly answered richas' birthday the moment bad asked for it. the way he got visibly more upset and terrified when cellbit started shouting at forever. what the hell. no seriously what the HELL.
and, like, oh my god, making him the one to solve the antidote? proving that even though he may have fallen to the drug (the drug which was basically created by GODS, by the way, lets be real, the federation is nawt normal), he's still so useful. he's still such an asset. he's smart and he's kind and he's charismatic and he's trusting and he's so so selfless and so so brave and so strong. tubbo put it perfectly. the fact that he's gone through all the horrible awful stuff he's gone through and he's still standing just proves how capable he is. how tough he is. cellbit calling him "my dear." pointing out the fact that he sacrificed himself without knowing he was going to come back. "i'm only afraid of being sad again." "you will be sad again. but you won't be alone." he's so. he's just. he's. im frothing at the mouth. he gave himself up to save the rest of the island from this plague that took one of his best friends and might've taken the entire island if he didn't do anything. under that stress. experiencing that level of loss.
pac is one of the toughest goddamn people on the island and if anyone on that server even dares try to imply otherwise i will do heinous heinous things, mark my WORDS.

Never have I thought... Last Twilight turned out to be that good that I would like to write not prediction and not bl-related things, but about a thing we all know so damn well - family.
There're two types of comments that makes me sad:
about Day's mother not understanding Day and his love
about Day hating Night too much
I've already written about my parents getting divorced at the same age of mine as Day was. But what if I told you that I also have an older brother, stories of father cheating on mother and a mother always busy with work?..
Take a seat, dear readers, thank you for your attention, I'll try to make it easy to read and maybe put some pictures. I'll tell you what's real in this series and why my heart hurts for all of them!
Tumblr media
First of all let me tell you why Day's father hasn't become a problem and later Day even talked to him nicely. I mean REALLY NICELY. The answer is lack of feelings in Day. You can't hate person you barely able to love. You can't be hurt enough by someone you barely remember.
That man cheated on their mother, that man didn't provide his own two children even with food, but all of this exists as a story once told to Day. He loves the idea of being kinda loved by his biological parent, because we all want to be wanted and needed, but the father we've seen in that last two episodes is a stranger we're all getting to know with Day.
Let's leave this man living his life full of regrets and talk about Day's mother. She is THE MOTHER. As we know she discovered being cheated when Day was three (or maybe earlier?), left her propably hometown and spent another two years dealing with a need to divorce. Night was around ten or even less that time. She was maybe thirty. No food, no money and only three of them as she mentioned when giving Mhok a house tour.
Tumblr media
And Day's mother actually survived and even succeed. I like the actress chosen for this role. She's beautiful. She looks gorgeous every time we see her. She also must be smart and charismatic to be a famous chef. And still there're only three of them. After around fifteen years (or even more) this absolutely stunning woman is still a single mother of two.
This woman made a fortress that supposed to keep safe from any heartbreak. And this fortress has it's rules.
Have you heard anything about Night's girlfriends? He's already mature enough to have a girlfriend or even a wife. And do you understand now why I think that the fear in Day's eyes everytime Mhok flirts with him at home probably has very little with a sexual orientation?..
Tumblr media
The whole family has TRUST ISSUES. Their mother is their leader of course.
So you say that the mother with her trust issues (and social status and financial stability) should understand that Mhok loves her son. Okay, Mhok for her:
Young man, something around the age of her older son. Spent a year in prison. Has no relatives. Is an employee in her house. Didn't talk to him much.
Now tell this woman she needs to be happy her younger blind son is dating Mhok. And wants to be with him. Live together, have his own family. After all these tough years when there're only three of them and the reason for that was her being cheated by someone she loved. Tell her to trust in love. Tell her she needs to trust Mhok.
You can tell this woman to get therapy and then talk to her son(s) and you will be absolutely right. However people usually don't act right when dealing with their strongest emotions and I can't imagine this woman being less than heartbroken in the next episode.
Tumblr media
Also need to say that being a single mother of two sounds like a choice between spending time with children and spending time making money for these children. And it's true. I also blamed my mother for not being in my life when dealing with different sh*t.
I was being bullied for a year and all my mother did was making me to change school after the year ended. She never been there when I was coming home with eyes full of tears. Oh, and before that year I even had an accidental (not car accident) eye trauma. Yeah, really, I'm not lying. My eye never recovered fully and I spent a week with a vision similar to Day's one. But it's okay now. I was around twelve back then.
So what about Night? Don't you think Day hates him too much? It's not a big deal to use Night to get to Songkhla and just not speak to him there at all, right? Why being so dramatic?
Tumblr media
I remember a couple years ago my older brother was asked by my mother to help me with some renovations in the apartment I live in. That night we argued that hard that I left my only home in the whole big city and refused to come back until he left it. It was around 5AM. I spent that night in a park.
So if you think Day can't be mad at Night after that car accident without more valid reason, you need to ask yourself what Day felt for Night before the accident. And the simplified answer is love.
It's only the closest ones that can hurt you the most.
It would be really nice to know more about Day and Night's childhood, teen years. I'm sure mother always told them they need to be together and help each other and be kind to each other. The boys for sure was annoyed, but they care of each other so damn much. The goldfish "Little Day" is still alive after all.
Tumblr media
After such a betrayal from a man mother can only trust her sons she raised herself. She taught them to trust her, to trust each other. That's why Night used to be the main caregiver for Day. He was the only person the mother could trust as much as she trusts herself.
Meanwhile Day learned that the only way to have some mother's time is to be the better son. Maybe his mother can't be with him regularly, but she wil definitely come to see him playing, right? Day and Night managed to compete for mother's time and attention without even realizing it.
I actually tend to tell everyone that my mother loves my brother more, even though I try to be less troublesome and more mature. I even complained to my friends about the need to take care of my older brother like he's the younger one.
I feel something like grief looking at Day's family. Their relationships and their personalities are like an aftershock of something happened years ago. And maybe it's not even a divorce.
Time actually heals. For Day and Mhok and Day's mother's relationship this time will start the moment she will be told about them. For Day and Night's relationship this time will start the moment Day get a stable zero vision and start learning to live in a new reality. I also hope we won't get eye donation from father/brother/mother/Mhok or I won't trust screenwriters ever again.
The family needs to see each other. And for that they actually don't need eyes.
Tumblr media
If you're reading this you're my hero!
Thank you so much for reading this brainrot. I questioned myself whether all of this needs to be written, but decided to spit my thoughts out. Sometimes these writings help to analyse not only the characters, but myself. That's good.

Do you guys want to read my most unhinged Armand apologism rant that is extremely "me after 5 rum and cokes at 12:45am when the fandom police don't scare me anymore" coded?
Everyone wants to write insightful gorgeous meta about the horror of s2e5 and center it around Armand and I get it I get (and also I wanna read it because you're all so smart)
BUT
I am, as I am everyday, mentally doing a Billy Flynn tapdance trying to figure out why I am the only one who seems to feel that the real horror here is what is only alluded to.
Because Armand only killed one person in that apartment and that was the witness from next door. He was going to do the same for Daniel because of all he witnessed and also jealousy but he didn't. Did he get a little freaky scary on you? Wow sorry for being weird and offputting, nobody on Tumblr can relate to that.
Louis killed 128 young men in that apartment. In just THAT apartment. Because he was stuck in a months long bender from his guilt and shame, and disdain for Armand. But he did it quickly and he did it with a charismatic smile, so it's not as bad as scary Armand who makes them cry and pee their pants a little first. Nevermind that Louis also fucks them first knowing damn well he's about to murder them.
Daniel ended up in that situation because of Louis, who was IN THE PROCESS OF VIOLENTLY KILLING HIM when Armand walked in. But Armand is the horror movie monster?
Oh but Louis stopped Armand from killing him in the end! Woohoo! That totally makes up for the 128 other dudes whose lives were just as worthwhile as Daniel's, to whom Louis didn't extend that mercy.
This is the unreliable narrator show but it's also the "protagonist of my own narrative" show. Armand is the villain of s2e5 because Louis and Daniel are the ones sitting in that rock garden remembering it from their perspective. Daniel effectively forgives Louis for trying to kill him because he didn't die, so how mad can he be, and the next four days kind of take precedence in his traumatic memories I'm sure. He has every right to be more mad at Armand. But Louis is lucky as hell he isn't still mad at him too. And it's lucky for Louis those ten dozen other perspectives were permanently silenced 50 years ago. He probably wouldn't look so sympathetic then.

So about this Canto V... (Spoilers)
I rather say it straight, my review is quite negative, so if you loved Canto V, you should ignore this. I don't like to put bad vibes in the main tag, but I wanted to give my opinion on this Canto.
Tumblr media
This Canto was... Disappointing. I love Ishmael, I love Moby Dick, I truly do, and I had high expectations. Especially because, I know Project Moon is good at making us feel things, so I was confident with this Canto. I was confident it would be as good as the last one. But... There are things.
I'm not going to talk much about the CG or character designs. I will be honest, the new characters designs were really mid, Queequeg and Ahab were the two to stand out, and yet, even so, I did not saw them very great. Yet god knows I love evil old women and butch she/her himbo. I feel sad that Nai_Ga had to, well, literally carry the entire visuals of the Canto, did every background, every character, every CG. I hope he's paid tripple for his work. But also it felt like rushed, naturally, when you're the only artist working on a whole game's chapter, there's high chances that it will look low quality. But at the same time, since VellMori left the crew, I can't say much. I really, really hope they can find new artists. I love your art style, Nai_Ga, but dear god we need to discuss how you draw muscled arms.
Tumblr media
ANYWAY, now into the real subject; what really disappointed me in this chapter. The feels.
I AM going to compare it a lot to Canto IV, naturally. It was the previous Canto, so it's hard to not compare them, especially with how good Canto IV was. It's like eating a very dull and mid dessert after an absolute banger of a feast.
The characters were not attaching. At all.
Let's talk about Ahab first, the main antagonist. She's... Well, a very fucked up old lady. She's senile and obsessed by her revenge. Which, well, makes sense! But it gives no sympathy whatsoever to the character. Comparing to Dongrang, the antagonist of the previous Canto, she was not a grey antagonist. She was all black. All evil. Which is BAD when Project Moon has been serving us really morally grey characters before. She's obssessed, she's ready to throw her crewmates to death for her own desires, she just wants to kill that Damned Whale. And this was so, so bad when at the end, Ishmael spares Ahab. WHY would you spare this absolutely madlad. Sure, Ishmael doesn't want to be like her, but Ahab had absolutely no reason to be left alive. She will just be more evil, AND join the evil people gang to be even MORE evil. That's fucked up. Yes, Kromer was also some unhinged feral woman, but she fought for something and was not just evil, but smart. She was scary BECAUSE she was smart. Ahab, at first she was shown as charismatic, that she can manipulate... But she quickly, way too quickly fell into "just some senile old woman." Starbuck and Queequeg followed her because she was the reason they were still alive, she was their lighthouse. But at the end of the dungeon, even after she shouted with absolutely no shame that she's ready to kill her crew, after Queequeg discovered with horrors that she sacrified everyone to make her way to the heart, she... Still joins Ahab? Without, even a second thought? Queequeg, you KNEW Ahab had not a single care for you, that she was ready to use your body for the steps that would lead her to her ambition. WHY, you followed her, and DIED for her till the end.
And Queequeg is my next point. She could, she SHOULD have been a character I enjoy a lot, but instead I felt neutral about her. A character we can associate to her in the previous Canto is Dongbaek. And now, we get a hint; all the Pequod crew was introducted way too late. They got introduced at the start of the Dungeon, and all died at the end of the Dungeon. Compared to Kromer, to Dongrang and Dongbaek who were introduced way before. We saw the memories of Sinclair and Yi Sang with them, we saw the interactions, the good moments, and that's how we got attached to them. Unfortunately, for the Pequod's crew, from the start of Canto V to the start of the Dungeon, we got absolutely nothing. Just their names mentioned. We should have got flashbacks. We barely saw Ishmael interact with Pip or Starbuck, and even her interactions with Queequeg, they were sure, adorable and heartwarming, but I could not feel the attachment between them that much as I was able to feel it between Yi Sang and Dongbaek. Dongbaek gave us an amazing boss fight, despite being not the final boss (Queequeg had a boss fight too, but! Too bad! It was just some random looking fight.), she gave us amazing memories of her and Yi Sang, and she died a heartbreaking death.
Tumblr media
Queequeg, not only you had to guess that she was dead because at no moment it was showed, but all she got is around five lines of dialogues, Ishmael's crying sprite, "oh no!, anyway. that whale's not going to die alone."
Tumblr media
Then we got Pip, Starbuck, and Stubb. Who? They appeared, they had a bit of dialogues, then they disappeared. Reduced to atoms.
This is really sad, because Project Moon always had a talent to make us attached to characters, then once they were growing into our hearts, kill them. I mostly think about Xiao, about Yan, we saw those characters evolve throught the story of Library of Ruina, we followed them, we saw their struggles, we saw their feelings, we fought them, the music playing behind broke our hearts, and we killed them. It was painful, it was hard, and even after they're gone, we will still think about them. We will read their books and discover even more. The promise Xiao and Lowell made that she broke after his death, how Yan had been chosen as a messenger just after he tried to take his own life away.
Queequeg, Ahab, and the rest of the Pequod's Crew are forgettable. And this is AWFUL for a Project Moon game.
And Ishmael's evolution... The conclusion felt, quite random. A few time I felt bad for her during the Canto, and it was good! But at the end, it felt rushed. She dropped a "my friends are Limbus Company now" randomly. She did not even interacted with anyone during the Dungeon. All the Sinners were just looking from far away like "go white girl go". She could have teamed up with them, she could have created bounds with them. All we got is Heathcliff saving her to make the Ishheath fans scream because Ishmael is a dark skinned himbo magnet.
Tumblr media
I hope at least, Ishmael will play a really good part in Heathcliff's evolution in his Canto, the next one, but that's disappointing that during Ishmael's, it wasn't much. She could have got closer to Outis during the final fight, since both were already working as a team on the boat before, she could have got closer to Rodion, who helped her, or maybe Don! It's sad she was just, here, alone, against Ahab. It broke the whole purpose of "finding her new self", and she seemed that she came to this conclusion randomly.
So yup. Big disappointment. I probably set the bar of my expectations too high, maybe, but I'm not the only one sharing this, as I discuted it with some people before. I can complain about other points, like how Moby Dick just appeared for one scene, that Queequeg's death was absolutely useless to the story, or the lack of new abnormalities. But I'm being annoying.
Mili's song was fire tho, as always

Only Friends's MBTI types - my guesses after episode 1
Let's associate one of my newest obsessions with one of my long lasting ones and guess our favorite group of messy queers' MBTI types ! Yes, all of Mew, Top, Ray, Sand, Boston, Nick and Chueam. I've done a lot of that at parties so I think I might be either good or terrible or average at it, I'm hedging my bets and promising nothing.
Tumblr media
(btw I'm very aware of the problematic origins of the MBTI test, the ways it is often misused and how unscientific it is, please let me just have dumb fun okay ! Also I won't really explain that much what each letters actually mean bc it's more fun that way)
Anyway, going to rank the characters from the types I found the easiest to figure out to the hardest, this is after the first episode only so hopefully the next ones don't prove me wrong too much :
Tumblr media
1. Boston : ESTP "The Entrepreneur"
E for extraverted, S for all the ssssensations, T 'cause he knows to hide what he thinks, P because that's what he's thinking with
Seriously though, ESTPs "tend to be energetic and action-oriented, deftly navigating whatever is in front of them. They love uncovering life’s opportunities, whether socializing with others or in more personal pursuits." They're unpredictable, always looking for the next thrill, charismatic, charming, quick-witted. They're also smarter than they look, can be calculating and rational, and use some of that cold logic to disregard people that don't suit them anymore to look for the next best thing. They're also the sluttiest type according to this Reddit thread I absolutely agree with.
Come on, don't tell me that's not Boston to a T !
Alternative typing : ESFP - but I think there's something less spontaneous and more calculating behind Boston's urges.
Tumblr media
2. Sand : ISTJ "Logistician"
I for introverted because he's clearly tired of everyone, S for stubborn, T for those ethics, J for judgmental all day every day
ISTJ "pride themselves on their integrity. People with this personality type mean what they say, and when they commit to doing something, they make sure to follow through." They're hardworking strong willed and dutiful to a fault, honest to the point of lacking tact and hurting people, they're the type to care about people but also about order and about things being done "the right way", so they're kinda hard to befriend (and they don't necessarily want to be your friend anyway) but they make for extremely devoted partners. They value stability above all so they don't appear like the most sexually focused people but they reeeallly care about leaving their partner satisfied.
This type doesn't really do hook ups and I'm looking forward to how Sand is going to handle a FWB type relationship with Ray
Alternative typing : ISTP. I feel like a happy Sand with less money troubles could be an ISTP, able to express his artistic side and creativity, spontaneous, able to adapt, just still reserved. But the Sand we're shown so far is more rigid and less prone to risky behaviors than an ISTP would be.
Tumblr media
3. Ray : INFP "Mediator"
Okay so this might be a controversial one, but listen, I know my depressed horny but pining romantics INFPs by heart, I love them to pieces, they're full of contradictions and I really see Ray as one of them.
Generally speaking, INFP are depicted as "quiet, open-minded, and imaginative", but most importantly and more essential to their nature, they live in a world of their own imagination. They're somewhat eccentric, witty, often have quite a few friends but always perceive themselves to be lonely, longing for a deep transcending connection that they don't actually try to get in real life because their self esteem is too low. They're smart but easily distracted and unfocused, passionnate and vulnerable but also self critical and desperate to please, empathetic and selfish, and just so damn depressed.
Alternative typing : ENFP / ISFP. Some people might say that Ray's adventurous and flirtatious side make him an ENFP or an ISFP, and I don't fully disagree : his apparent sluttiness is not very typical of an INFP. But ! it seems like his sluttiness is a coping mechanism to deal with his unreciprocated crush and low self worth, as is his alcoholism, and that sounds very INFP to me.
Tumblr media
4. Top : ENTP "Debater"
We're getting into character I'm actually having doubts about, but I still think Top is an ENTP : E for extremely forward and extroverted, N for never backing down from a challenge, T for titillating and quick thinker, P for Popular for his P... sorry
No but really, ENTP are known to be direct, intelligent, charismatic and to "pursue their goals vigorously despite any resistance they might encounter". There, we've said it, do I need to further convince you about Top being an ENTP ? Yes ? Okay weird but sure.
ENTPs love to be surprised, they welcome unexpected situations as exciting challenges, which I find very close to Top's approach to Mew. It also means that Top's and Boston's type are very close (ENTP vs ESTP) which makes a lot of sense to me, with some fundamental differences being that an ENTP (Top) will focus on the big concept and long term vision while an ESTP (Boston) is both observant to small details and easily distracted ; an ENTP communicates more easily in a round about manner (ie Top's way of collecting information about Mew) while an ESTP is more literal and "often gives exact examples of events that have occurred in the past" (ie Boston's approach of Top at the bar and later in the bathroom)
Alternative typing : ENTJ - Maybe the differences between Top and Boston actually go deeper than that. ENTJs are considered the most natural leaders, loving being in charge, charismatic and intelligent. So it could also fit Top, but I'm choosing to believe based on what we've seen so far that Top is more adaptable and spontaneous (ENTP) than organized and consistent (ENTJ). Not 100% sure though.
Tumblr media
5. Nick : ISFP "Adventurer"
Okay so we don't actually know Nick that well yet. He doesn't seem the most extroverted and can even be a bit shy when surprised, but is still fairly audacious and has an air of enthusiasm about him, so I think he is ISFP : I for introverted on first glance, S for slitherin in those nudes, F for falling head over heels for Boston, P for putting himself out there
ISFPs tend to be warm and creative people, the good friends who are always up for trying new things but would never pressure you. They're sensitive, passionate, curious, open minded but also easily stressed and often underestimate themselves. In romantic relationships, they tend to give all their focus to their partner's needs and forget themselves a bit ; they need excitement and adventure, but they're also very loyal, caring, they go with the flow of what their partner wants. They need a partner to show love through their actions ... Yeah we'll see how that goes with Boston !
Talking about ISFP-ESTP relationships (Nick-Boston) : ISFP tend to be drawn to ESTP and their energy but also find them to be jerks are hard to settle down with, with many users on different Reddit threads describing a very push-pull dynamic. Ah, how surprising
(Btw, if you want a post about what the MBTI types of all these characters say about their relationships and what I'd predict based on that, let me know haha)
Alternative typing : INFP - Ya know, for those hopeless romantics vibes ! But Nick seems too forward and go with the flow to me to be an INFP (see INFP Ray who's actually a lot more slow build in his relationships with both Mew and Sand, though maybe not that slow, just by the show's standards lol)
Tumblr media
6. Chueam : ESFP "Entertainer"
Okay I'm actually struggling with Chueam but I think my verdict for now is ESFP, which gives her at least two letters in common with every one on this list except Sand (edit : and Mew surprisingly), and I think it makes sense because she does appear to understand everyone else in the group while being the life of the party. ESFP in her case would stand for Extroverted Sensation Focused Partier - yes these acronyms are getting worse, sorry.
Really though, ESFPs are described as the type to "break out spontaneously into song and dance" : they live life to the fullest, always excited to embrace new experiences. They're bold and a bit messy sometimes, they're easily bored, but they're also sweet, friendly, observant and have great people's skills. They're popular but conflict averse and don't like to think too much about the future which certainly gives them some blind spots. To me, it sounds like a great summary of how Chueam seems charming, super fun to be around, caring for her friends but also a bit too focused on pleasure to the point of ignoring red flags (*coughs* Top)
Alternative typing : ESFJ - Chueam's optimistic vibes and how people oriented she is in a way that is certainly a bit chaotic but not actually messy gives me the impression that she could also be an ESFJ (if we think she's a bit more organized and good at planning)
Tumblr media
7. Mew : INFJ "Advocate"
Surprise, surprise, the guy who is arguably our main character is the hardest one for me to type. I think that it might be because since he's the narrator of his own story, he's unreliable about everyone obviously, but probably even more unreliable when it comes to himself.
What do we truly know about Mew ? He likes his friends but is more introverted, doesn't mind going out but avoids drinking so he can stay in control. He likes books because they allow him to explore the world without actually venturing too much outside of his comfort zone ; he's a bit of a romantic but also pragmatic about his own emotions ; his life has a routine and an organization that he finds grounding.
So that means Mew is definitely an I for introverted bean, F for Focused on his Feelings, and J for Judgment and Just doing things the proper way. I'm also going to assume that he's more focused on the bigger picture and conceptual ideas - meaning he's going to think he's smarter than he is and ignore some details and find that out the hard way - and while he likes pleasing people, he has no issues stating his boundaries - as seen after he invites Top in his apartment. All of this gives us an INFJ.
INFJ are described as deeply thoughtful and with very rich inner lives, they're usually considered pretty rare, and are very aware of how unique they are, often making it part of their "branding", a core element to how they think of themselves. They're all about self perception, self awareness ; they're highly observant and good at analyzing other people, empathetic and caring, they give good advice to the point of appearing almost psychic but are actually quite self centered because they're so focused on achieving perfection and avoiding being ordinary. They are truly very smart and charismatic in an understated way, but they can also look down on others as shallow and have a bit of main character syndrome. See also @heretherebedork's post on Mew's potential as a manipulative virgin demon that I very much agree with.
Now, it might sound harsh, but I think that describes Mew quite well. I might be projecting a bit though (I may or may not be an INFJ myself, oops), but I truly think that my feeling of both liking Mew a lot as a character and fundamentally wanting to punch him in the face might be due to us being the same type lol
Alternative typing : ISFJ / INTJ - The preference of Mew for things to be done a certain way could extend to a resistance to change and an attachment to a sense of higher duty, making him a bit more of an ISFJ. But also, if he's actually less focused on his emotions and a lot more calculating and guided by his pure logic, he might be more of an INTJ.
So yeah, that's it, I spent way too much time thinking about this. Any opinions and comments are VERY WELCOME, please let me know how wrong I am haha and we can improve this together !
Now I'm going to not so patiently wait for episode 2 to be released lol

As my last post might suggest, I've been watching through Hogan's Heroes. Making the conflict so damn silly is an interesting approach. Of course, Mel Brooks comes to mind. Feels not too far removed from Get Smart comedy, anyway (radio in the coffee pot/phone in the shoe, for instance). Hogan's an interesting kind of all-American hero, feeling a bit like what they were going for in '80s cartoons, in a dynamic with Klink and Schultz kind of like Spongebob Squarepants with Squidward and Mr. Krabs in the sense of unrealistically but charismatically walking all over them. It really feels like a cartoon.
Personally, I prefer Stalag 17 because even though the Nazis are comedically incompetent, they still represent an unlikable threat. I get what Hogan's Heroes is going for with the Nazis as so incompetent that they have to be buddy-buddy with the powerful Americans they supposedly dominate but who secretly run the prison camp, but the whole premise is intrinsically flawed for removing the context of why we should care about them as an enemy at all. Stalag 17, which the show is based on, doesn't take it to that extreme and keeps the Nazis powerful enough to be a clear threat while also depicting the American prisoners humorously subverting them. The black comedy can then be effective with the contrast in place. Like with bees building a honeycomb, they have to build the hard walls around where the sweet honey can be suspended.
In a sense, the conflict between Hogan's Heroes and Stalag 17 is a very specific manifestation of the dialog between The Great Dictator and To Be or Not to Be, where the former is very silly to the extent of risking disrespect to the victims of Nazi oppression and the latter is silly but in contrast to a clearly delineated scary threat. Mel Brooks took inspiration from To Be or Not to Be and eventually made his own version that ultimately restructures its comedy as somewhere between the original and Hogan's Heroes. I see the Jack Benny version as the real gold standard of black comedy that subverts the Nazis while still clearly framing them as a deadly threat.
Eh... but it's still funny when Hogan walks all over Klink, and Schultz pointedly ignores all signs that the prisoners aren't cowed in the least.

Connection -Part 3 (Final Part)
Pairing; J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy's Portrayal x doctor reader)
Word Count: 1505
Warnings: mentions of depression, slight mentions of suicidal thoughts.
The rain was tapping on the glass loudly, creating a calming buzz, interrupted by loud thunder. His heart sat tightly in his chest, his mouth dry. That had to stop. He couldn't keep on spending his evenings like that, he had work to do.
y/N sighed, rubbed her eyes. She looked at the book he had clutched in his hands.
"How did you like it"?
Robert sucked in a breath. "It was excellent. Most…most enlightening".
"You felt you could relate huh", she asked pleasantly, and he nodded.
"Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart", she quoted. Her patient nodded, a small smile feathering on his face.
She shifted on her seat, crossed her arms infront of her. Light conversation was over.
"You're of unusual intelligence Robert. Perhaps a bit more than large. I see that very clearly. And…my honest opinion is that you will find your way, eventually. You'll find a way to heal and step up to the circumstances. I'm here to help you do it quickly and without further consequences. I can't do that if you don't let me".
I won't judge you, her eyes promised, and Robert felt the truth in her words.
"I shouldn't have done that", he whispered.
"But you did do it. Because you felt something".
He dismissed whatever he'd felt with a nod.
"All feelings are valid, Robert".
"I respect him greatly".
"I know".
"He makes me look like an idiot. He's charismatic, he's…smart"- his voice cracked painfully- "and… he deserves his reputation…".
"I don't give a damn about Blackett".
"Then why did you meet with him"? he asked sharply. He lowered his head. "I felt jealous, I guess. And…this couldn't go on for much longer. All the shame, and, the…the failure,.…-he was cruel.…Punishing".
He drew in a sharp breath in an attempt to calm himself down.
"I didn't want him to die"! he rasped out in desperation. "I just left the apple there…and after that the incident didn't cross my mind at all, but, while I was asleep…".
He swallowed harshly and wiped a stray tear.
She was waiting for him to continue, posture calm and inviting, the smallest of smiles on her lips. As if it was all alright. As if it was normal.
"You're not your thoughts or your emotions, Robert", she said, almost guessing what was on his mind. "You're the witness of them. Everybody at some point of their life has felt jealous and angry, and whatnot. The fact that some people do not know how to control these emotions is not their fault".
Tears had started streaming down his face. His voice was faint, like the feel of moisture on their skin. "Who's is it"?
y/N shrugged. "Perhaps your parents', your teachers', your professors', your friends', the butcher's in your neighborhood. It doesn't matter".
The knot in his stomach pulled again-but this time it was kinder. It was from sympathy.
"We're all broken, that's how the light gets in", she mumbled softly.
"Did…someone write that too"?
Her smile broadened. "Ernest Hemingway. Start with "The Sun Also Rises". You'll love it. Did you do any laboratory work these days? ", she then asked.
Robert shook his head. "I don't want to go back there".
"Understandable. You know…at some point, you'll have to forgive yourself Robert".
He let out an ironic chuckle, but when he returned his gaze at her, his eyes were pleading.
He felt as if he was standing at the edge of a cliff and was teetering between jumping on his own volition or being pushed over. Better leave on your own terms, he thought. His teeth were chattering-weirdly, because, everybody knew he'd done something so much worse.
"Yesterday…", he began with a shaky voice, "I was in the same wagon as a young lady and her boyfriend,- and they were kissing and I just… I don't know why…When he left…I kissed her… ".
A small sob made his shoulders wobble. "I can't control myself anymore", he whispered  in a small voice and as if to prove his words, tears started streaming down his cheeks hugging the corners of his jaw.
He pushed himself to stop-it felt dangerous to have a psychiatrist hear him talk, see him unravel in front of her, but it was easier with her.
He felt as if a weight was lifted off of his shoulders, as if she was there, to help, to reach out…and-and guide him.
He shouldn't have done that- he wasn't responsible for his actions anymore…! but-
A gentle, warm hand came to rest on the back of his head. Robert released his face from his hands, only to see her close to him, her expression one of…of sympathy.
Unbelievable though it was for him…she was there. Even when he wanted to cut his skin open-be freed, finally, from all these thoughts…
He took her hand and felt her warmth carry inside him, the most precious comfort.

~2 Months Later~
The sweet days of April had arrived, and the sun had begun to shake off the winter's mist. Moisture didn't stick to people's clothes anymore, they could hold pleasant conversations in their walks, unafraid of stepping in dirty water ponds. Robert found himself squinting his eyes so as to protect them from the sunlight and smiled to himself.
He'd learned how to walk with his head straight up again, his heart felt surprisingly light, all thanks to that young doctor he'd been seeing.
Today, however, he had one more reason to be happy: he was finally free. Off, to make a new beginning.
He observed the little park across Dr. y/LN' office, the heaviness of the wooden staircase that led him there. His stomach clenched uneasily-not because he was ashamed or…afraid. He'd gotten rid of those feelings. Because of her.
And this would be the last time he saw her.
She couldn't afford a secretary, at the age of 23 she had little clientele and therefore small paychecks. He knocked hesitantly at the door of her office.  He closed his eyes heavily upon hearing her happy voice. Not often would she get an unexpected patient, he supposed.
He walked to the tiny reception room, but while he was three steps in she called out to him. Either by smell or the sound of his footsteps, she'd recognised him.
"Hello Robert, good evening", she said, and he followed her inside.
This time he ignored the comfortable armchair, eyes focused on her face.
"Won't you sit"? she asked.
He nodded with a sight.
Chewing lightly on her bottom lip-she did that while she was thinking sometimes- she examined his features for a few moments.
He cleared his throat, divided the weigh between the left and right foot. "I'm leaving Cambridge", he announced awkwardly, and she smiled, as if she'd already guessed it.
"I'll be going to Göttingen. It's…a theoretical physics university".
"Good. You'll…you will thrive there, I'm sure".
"I came to say goodbye. I thought I should…"
"Yeah, I'm glad you did", she muttered, unable to escape the uncomfortable energy that had settled in the room.
She reached for him, they shook hands. Robert closed his eyes, grateful for the warmth of her. His breath itches when he feels her fingers tangle with his own- it's a new feeling…more…personal.
And then-oh good god- he feels rather than sees her rise to her toes, leaning in to press her lips on his. He doesn't dare breathe, scared the moment will just shatter. He can't bring himself to move either, he doesn't know what to do, it's his first time, and what if she thinks it's rejection?
She doesn't; she knows him better than his mother, better than he knows himself. She pulls back, opens her eyes, smiles at him. Her hand comes to cup his cheek, but at the corners of her eyes tears begin to swell.
He leans in this time, feels the softness of her lips, inhales her perfume. She parts his lips with her tongue, and then it's just wetness and warmth. She sucks on his bottom lip, he explores her mouth, and it's so so different from that stupid kiss he'd had with that stranger. She sighs in his mouth and before his heart begins to flourish from the happiness she pulls back again.
Tears roll down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that, I'm your doctor", she blurts out in embarrassment.
She fidgets with the hem of her skirt, Robert just stands there, unsure of how to act.
"This doesn't change anything by the way-and don't think it's out of putty!-I-I haven't told anyone. I'll send my report on Göttingen, and you'll be alright. I promise".
"I'll write to you", he promises.
She swallows harshly. Her hand somehow finds his again.
"When will you be leaving"?
Robert hugs her by the shoulder, brings her body flush against his.
"In a three day's time".
She lifts her face to meet his lips, and this time his heart guides him.
---------
I just wanted to thank those who like and reblogged the first two parts and gave me the motivation to finish this silly little story.
I didn't particularly like it's development, but I guess they deserved to have an ending.
And this final sceneI love.
Please tell me what you think if you read it!!!

( oscar isaac, forty five, cis male, he/him ) ☼ i know it’s a small town, but i run into CONRAD REYES every time i go to THE WIZARD'S TOWER. it’s like they practically live there and not THE MOUNTAINS for FORTY FIVE YEARS. it must be because they’re ARTICULATE and SELFISH. come to think of it, that’s probably why they’re a LIBRARIAN/TEACHER too. but i did hear they want to IMPROVE THE VALLEY, and sometimes they like to MINE. rumor has it they also like GOAT CHEESE, but dislike CHOWDER. what do you think?
meet conrad, your local pretentious librarian. he's valley born and bred, from a mother that's been in the valley for generations and a father that fled city life to join her and her family in the valley. they were quiet, and older parents, and his father was a big reader, so conrad spent many days indoors or at the valley's library. the greatest days of his childhood are when he got to go to zuzu city and visit its museum
went to the capital for college and then travelled around the ferngill republic AND the gotoro empire AND other countries that are unnamed because I don't know any more canon ones, and he will never, ever, ever shut up about his travels there. like a study abroad guy but worse.
eventually got a bachelors and then a masters in library science and settled back down in the valley with his parents because he loved it and them. he has an inflated ego about how smart and educated he is now, and has plenty of ideas about how to improve the valley. he talks to the mayor — and anyone else who will listen — about his ideas all the time.
eternal bachelor, manwhore extraordinaire. thinks because he's self aware about it it doesn't count as an issue. fuckboy who will break ur heart :( but swings all ways :)
huge joja supporter and wants to expand and build in the valley to make it a more viable farming town or a vacation town without losing its charm. thinks it could be revitalized and wishes to see it be more bustling. unafraid to butt heads with his neighbors over this. including his own mother, who is ancient.
deeply, deeply insecure and that's basically why he is the way he is. depressed sad man. loves the valley so very deeply and wants to do right by it, just has a bit of a pretentious capitalist man mindset about it. do you think you can fix him? vote in the poll below.
a teacher in town to all the valley's wonderful children, and damn good at it, in spite of all his other issues. he's charismatic, he's passionate, he treats the kids like they're capable. loves to take them on field trips around the valley so they can do things hands on, and is MILITANT about vocabulary and making sure they read plenty.
anti tv. doesn't own one. says it melts your brain. inexplicably watches movies.
pretentious loser. always has a book on him. smokes a pack a day and has a bit of a stardrop saloon problem, if you catch my drift. desperately needs to learn when to shut up. will quote pretentious quotes at you. performs his own original indie music at the stardrop saloon with his acoustic guitar. i wish I was joking too, y'all.
has a pet goat named yoba. but like, ironically...  he makes and sells his own artisan goat cheese.

Since I have OCs of my own, I'm curious, how do you go about making yours?
Oh God there are so many ways
Sometimes a stupid idea pops into my head and won't go away until I turn it into a story or character (FUCKING @norondor put Rhine Labs Arthurian Yuri into my brain and now I want to write about hot babe knights and beautiful courtly ladies kissing in secluded castle gardens, for example). This is how I got Greedy, a powerful and ancient dragon who is obsessed with VTubers.
Sometimes I just want to have adventures in the media I consume and come up with a character that lets me do that. In these instances, I typically start by making them someone I'd want to be (skills, personality, physical features, etc) and then decide to give them flaws so that they feel like people instead of strict wish fulfillment. Blatant self-indulgence is nice, but I would typically rather my characters have enough complexity to feel real. Feilan came about when I decided to just make an OC to project on instead of using poor Jaune for the purpose.
Sometimes I have an idea for a story, whether that be in terms of plot, setting, themes, and need characters to bring that to life. For Agara's story, which I still need a title for beyond "Hot Demon Lady Causes Problems On Purpose", I needed Calvin's life to be shitty enough that he'd be socially ostracized and more open to her manipulations, so I created a classist bully to make him miserable. In a lot of ways, this story is about how vulnerable, isolated young men can be groomed and radicalized and how dangerous that pipeline can be, wrapped up in a fantasy setting, so when I created Calvin, I made him the type of person who would be very susceptible to that kind of manipulation - low social status, unpopular with his peers, not particularly conventionally attractive or charismatic, lacking a useful support system, and desperate to change all that. I am not ashamed to admit that I drew on my own experiences here.
Other times I just have a cool idea for a character design that needs a story to go with it, which is how one of the characters of my high fantasy WIP came into being - I thought he was interesting and crafted a world around him.
Sometimes (a lot of the time), I am inspired by other media (fucking Arknights God damn it it keeps giving me brainworms) and create characters based on that. I saw a lovely art piece depicting Texas Arknights permanently removing Mostima from Exusiai's life in a fashion very in sync with her mafia roots and built a setting, plot, and group of characters from it (including a woman who is The Worst Bisexual Representation Ever but I'm pretty sure would also make tumblr sapphics feral on main).
Sometimes I am just horny and create Women I Think Are Hot.
In terms of the actual character creation process, I first identify what caused me to create the character (and thus what's already in place) and then go from there. Sometimes the design/role is already there and the template is already partially filled, but if I'm making a character from scratch, I start by figuring out what their purpose in the narrative is. With Feilan, I knew that the goal was at least in part to let me live out self-indulgent fantasies and have adventures in a world I found interesting (later on, he became my chew toy. This bad boy can fit so much trauma and comedic suffering in him), so I designed a character with physical features I had or wanted to have at the time: tall, built like a linebacker, attractive (but not too attractive. I wanted him to be good-looking, but not so hot women swoon when he walks in a room), deep voice, smart, compassionate, good at adapting on the fly, etc - and I will leave it up to you guys to figure out which traits I have and which ones I want. Then I figured out how I wanted him to dress. I was big into Jojo's Bizarre Adventure at the time and Jotaro's hat/coat combo has infected my brain ever since I first saw it, so I gave Feilan a cool hat and a long black coat. Since he was built on the Jaune self-insert template, I armed him with a sword and shield so I didn't have to modify too much.
Then it was time to figure out, more or less, what I wanted the plot to look like and what traits Feilan needed to have to make that happen. I kind of folded this together with the "give him flaws" stage because I needed those flaws to prevent a quick (and distinctly unsatisfying) resolution in either direction, so I made him good at thinking on his feet and outmaneuvering people (often half by accident or because they overestimate him) and able to plan effectively, but I also made him a bit of a hypocrite, prone to lashing out, self-centered, and afraid of facing the consequences of his own mistakes and then packed him full of some wonderful self-loathing.
The next step was deciding what themes I wanted to delve into. I knew the plot (roughly) of the first Feilan story and what it offered in terms of thematic exploration, so I decided to investigate masculinity, specifically through the lense of male isolation, male insecurity, male physical and emotional vulnerability, and male physical/emotional/sexual abuse. I realized this gave me a great vehicle to discuss masculinity in general, particularly toxic masculinity and what it means to be a man, so I gave Feilan daddy issues by creating Sten-Bjorn Varg (how do I do the symbol on top of the o on my phone someone help me), a Tough Manly Viking Man who has no idea what to do with a son that is very much not a Tough Manly Viking Man and picks a terrible strategy for dealing with that conundrum. I gave Feilan a set of beliefs about how a man Should Be (strong, stoic, doesn't need to ask for help) and started challenging those beliefs and breaking them down over the course of the story.
Then I considered the relationships I wanted him to have with others. I knew I wanted him to be close with Team RWBY, so I needed reasons they'd want to be around him. Being good-looking and not a dickbag is a good start, but if I wanted a real bond, I had to give him a little extra. I made him very laid-back and friendly and a good listener (and willing to cover for/go along with their shenanigans) so they'd be comfortable opening up to him and made him good at book learning so he could help Ruby with her schoolwork and otherwise serve as a mentor figure (and all this gave me the opportunity for delicious angst that fed into his self-esteem/self-loathing issues because every relationship he has is built on the lie that he deserves to be at Beacon).
Then it was time to just come up with the little things that made him feel like a person but weren't specifically plot-relevant. He has a sweet tooth and likes hot chocolate, he enjoys reading and playing video games but isn't a huge fan of watching TV, he's not particularly artistic, he enjoys exercise but not really fighting (outside of a spar. He doesn't get a thrill from it like Yang does) or the brutal training most of his mentors put him through, he doesn't really understand how to dress formally (or dress himself to best advantage in general), he's not very good at flirting or handling being flirted with, etc.
Meanwhile Bluebonnet came about because I thought the world needed more tall blonde big titty bisexual cowgirls with thick Texas accents and I was so right for that. I've been haphazardly slapping bits of characterization onto her like a clay figurine ever since. I started with her appearance, then moved to her personality and fighting style, and built a backstory from there.
Tl;dr there are a ton of ways I make an OC.

Propaganda
Natalie Wood (West Side Story, The Great Race)—She went through so much shit which I know can be said for all these women but Natalie really was a star and her death often overshadows her career and life. She could make you cry, but she also had the capacity to be incredibly funny which I think is lost on people.
This is round 5 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Natalie Wood:

Tumblr media
I feel like I have barely scratched the surface of all the ways she was such a badass that I'm turning into a rambling mess instead.

i personally hc him as having a touch of the tism, but his line of work forced him to mask so intensely that it's difficult for him to unmask. his sunglasses are his comfort item because it lets him avoid eye contact while also maintaining his Tough Guy facade. he is smart. very smart. but he cannot for the life of him pick up on social cues. he tended to be blunt without realizing it, but mirrored the behavior of his more charismatic coworkers to seem more Badass. he covertly stims by spinning a pen around in his fingers or clenching and unclenching his fists. he doesn't happy stim often because he doesn't get excited often (because the area that he works in is so harsh and bleak, he kind of feels obligated to mirror that energy and DAMN has he gotten good at it) but when he does he mostly shakes his fists around and makes a face that looks a bit like a grimace, but he IS happy. he tends to take things very literally, but has picked up on the mannerisms of all the neurotypicals that he works with and can usually tell what's genuine and what's just an expression. also that man's special interest is virology you cannot tell me i'm wrong. also he wears gloves because outside textures are unpredictable and can be Bad but glove always the same. also i know for a fact that man owns like 5 of the same shirt and sees absolutely no problem with it because "it's his favorite shirt" (i do this too and it is a god tier tactic. fight me). -tendon

send 🖤 and my character will answer about yours. | jhin ft. sivir
attractiveness:
repulsive / hideous / ugly / not attractive / unappealing / not unattractive / meh / no preference / ok / mildly attractive / nice looking / cute / adorable / attractive / pleasant on the eyes / good looking / hot / sexy / beautiful / gorgeous / hot damn / would tap that / perfect / godlike / holy fuck there are no words.
Jhin thinks, maybe, in some lesser way, he could show his devotion to her. It would never be enough to him, unfortunately... He would always want to be perfect for Sivir. He must be perfect, because what he doesn't notice in flaws upon her- he sees all in himself. He thinks she's more than beautiful- rather, ethereal. Something otherworldly, and even those words are not enough for how he would describe her. OF COURSE, Jhin would rather be caught dead than expose his innermost feelings, so he'd summarize it loosely as beautiful, but really, he thinks she's one of the prettiest. There are no words to describe her, if he thinks too hard about it. If he were to put it down on paper- he'd end up with a blank page, not because he can't think of one, but because there are too many.
read more below ;w; sorry for wall of text--
personality:
grating / irritating / frustrating / boring / confusing at best / awkward / unreasonable / psychotic / disturbing / interesting / engaging / affectionate / aggressive / ambitious / anxious / artistic / bad tempered / bossy / charismatic / appealing / unappealing / creative / courageous / dependable / unreliable / unpredictable / predictable / devious / dim / extroverted / introverted / egotistical / gregarious / fabulous / impulsive / intelligent / sympathetic / talkative / up beat / peaceful / calming / badass / flexible.
He thinks she's neat.
Maybe- well, more than a lot confusing. He had never had a negative thought of her (well, at least, after he got to know the woman of course!). Jhin had always- in some way- found that to be the best part of her. She would be unpredictable in the same ways he is. He likes that she's so creative as well as the many different ways she could do things on her own, well... She is an enigma, to say the least- badass in other words, and quick at thinking. A smart individual- one to keep an eye on...
how likely they would have sex with them:
not if they were the last person on earth and the world was ending / fuck no! / never / no way / not likely / not sure / indifferent / I’m asexual / maybe / probably / it depends / fairly likely / likely / yeah sure / yes / would tap that / hell yes / fuck yes! / wishing that could happen right now / as many times as possible / we are already having sex.
WELL... Jhin would rather die and blush a million shades of red than confess how he feels, but. If he were to... Yes, he would. He would do more than just sleep with her if he could- he would rather make love than just be a one night stand. However, it is Jhin, so he's rather fluid with the meanings of relationships (as lbr, he's never been in a Real One). He's also sure if she wasn't interested, then, well, he'd probably be fine without. He'd be happy just that she's alive, really, and that they're both alive at the same time.
level of friendship:
never in a million years / worst of enemies / enemies / rivals / indifferent / neutral / acquaintance / friendly toward each other / casual friends / friends / good friends / best friends / fuck buddies / bosom buddies / practically the same person / would die for them / true friends / my only friend.
A friend is a foreign concept to the killer. Even if he rattled around his brain, he would be incapable of coming up with the exact words of 'friendship'... He'd rather be an acquaintance, because at least he cannot be hurt, or be forced hurt them in return. He knows love can be painful, but friends can be equally as damning when you've known them for as long/as little as Jhin has.
first impression of them:
i hate them so much / i don’t like them / i don’t trust them / they annoy me / they’re weird / I’m indifferent / meh / they seem alright / they’re growing on me / truce / I think I like them / I like them / I’m not sure if I trust them / I trust them / they’re cool / they’re genuine / I think we’re going to get along / I really like them / I think I’m in love / oh fuck they’re hot / I love them.
Jhin doesn't have any sort of specific disdain. Not any amount of hindrance that would impact their relationship, anyways, depending on how things would go. He doesn't hate her- but he doesn't trust her, either. At first, he feels indifferent; she seems honest, and real- and that's all he could ask for, is that she's not putting up a front around him. Even if she had- he wouldn't know, he thinks she's a great actor, and if he's a liar- well that's better than being a traitor, at least. First impression is overall a neutral stance.
current impression of them:
i hate them so much / i don’t like them / i don’t trust them / they annoy me / they’re weird / I’m indifferent / meh / they seem alright / they’re growing on me / truce / I think I like them / I like them / I’m not sure if I trust them / I trust them / they’re cool / they’re genuine / I think we’re going to get along / I really like them / I think I’m in love / oh fuck they’re hot / I love them.
He loves her. He might be in love with her if she'd let him. If she would ever feel the same for him? He might be troubled, a little problematic, and definitely a cold blooded killer- but his heart would go on infinitely if she would allow him to love her. Jhin would however, clam up; silence himself outwardly with a timid- I guess she's growing on me, and I think she's really cool, but oh god. I love her.

Under Siege (1992)
Tumblr media
I haven’t watched all of Steven Seagal’s filmography but I’m nonetheless confident in calling Under Siege his best film. It takes a somewhat familiar formula (it’s Die Hard on a boat) and delivers everything you want to see. There’s a lot of action and thrills, the stakes are high, the bad guys are terrific - so good they easily steal the show.
Aboard the battleship USS Missouri, Executive Officer Commander Krill (Gary Busey) is preparing a surprise party for the captain. No one suspects there's more to it than music and a hot lady busting out of the cake. Actually, it’s a ploy to get William Strannix (Tommy Lee Jones) and his crew aboard so they can commandeer the ship and its nuclear arsenal. With all of the sailors killed or captured, it's up to the cook (Steven Seagal as Casey Ryback) and "Miss July" (Erika Eleniak as Jordan Tate) to save the day.
Unsurprisingly, Steven Seagal is not playing some lowly cook. He’s got special skills; exactly the kind required to take the Missouri back from the terrorists who’ve captured it. Even before we learn his backstory, you believe Ryback is up to the task because the character is smart. He knows he can’t take all of these baddies down on his own/through conventional methods so he finds ways to even the odds. Booby traps, subterfuge, calling for help, freeing some of his shipmates, getting anyone who will be sympathetic to help him and - my favorite - he picks up the weapons of those he defeats. It doesn’t sound like much but it’s what anyone with a brain would do in real life and in the movies, you rarely see anyone pick up a gun, much less pick up a spare so they can arm someone else to help. Though Seagal doesn’t prove himself to be all that charismatic, he handles the stunts well. You believe it when he sends the opposing goons to Davy Jones' locker. There are a lot of great kills in this movie, many of which will make you yell “Damn!” out loud.
I know Seagal has fans, but he's never been able to elevate the material handed to him. Luckily, we're in the hands of Andrew Davis (who made The Fugitive a year after this film) and a great supporting cast. First, there’s Gary Busey as Commander Krill. What a perfect role for him. The second he appears on-screen, you know he'll be an antagonist but then he surprises you by being even more despicable, sociopathic and corrupt than expected. You love to hate him because because you can tell he’s been thinking about this day for a long time, mentally picturing how it would all go down, and the people he was going to kill. You can’t wait for him to get what’s coming and the same goes for Tommy Lee Jones’ William Strannix. Somewhere between the cold, calculating Hans Gruber and the fanatical Egor Korshunov (from Air Force One”, another Die Hard-like action picture) he’s also enjoying this heist a little bit too much but between the jokes he makes at his victims’ expense, he keeps his cool. He recognizes the threat Ryback poses and comes up with counter strategies that keep him - and you - on your toes the whole way through.
Finally, we have Erika Eleniak as "Miss July", who might think is just a pretty face - and a bare chest - to add to the “R” Rating but she contributes A LOT. She’s the avatar for the audience: brought onboard the ship under false circumstances, she is totally in over her head. She realizes her only chance is to stick around with Ryback and yeah… that’s what you’d do too! I’m surprised more films haven't copied this aspect of Under Siege to give the hero someone to bounce off of and help them when they find themselves in a jam there’s seemingly no escaping.
Under Siege is a surprisingly memorable take on the Die Hard formula. I know that sounds like a backward compliment - like it’s only good if you’ve seen Die Hard a thousand times and you want something new - but this picture is solid. It’s a great “dad movie”, something you and the old man could sit through and thoroughly enjoy any day of the week. It makes great use of its location, both villains are memorable, the action is satisfying, Seagall handles the stunts well, and his sidekick is a great new ingredient to spice up the recipe. When you catch it, feel free to stay until the end of the credits to get some bonus facts about the ship upon which the film was shot. (On DVD, February 11, 2022)
