[Image ID: Baby Cassandra sitting with her hands between her legs. One shoulder is making her rosy cheek squish. She has golden curly hair going to about her ears, a large, square shaped head and big blue eyes. She's smiling, open mouthed, but no teeth are there. She's wearing a red long-sleeved dress with riffles at the end, and white socks. /End ID]

…Okay, you may end up seeing these drawings yet again on a later date
I finished the page, which was small at 500x500 px, but I wanted to make the page bigger. I did that, and I drew one new thing, but now I don’t know what else to draw on there. So for now, I figured I might as well post the original full page right now
Yeah, sorry for the laziness
This is the other sketch I finished on there, for those curious
Tumblr media
Anyways, so yeah, this new style practice I’m trying
The original page I tried these out on is this, which also isn’t full, but I thought trying it out with actual characters instead of just random poses and shapes would be better, so I switched over to Cookie Run characters
The method is still a work in progress when it comes to all the shapes and the red sketch layer
Tumblr media
I suppose what I should do now is try drawing a bunch of different Cookies that have different body shapes, so that I have practice with that. As well as maybe attempt some full body ones
I suppose you can suggest some if you want, considering I don’t know who to draw other than like, Hollyberry or Avocado, since I should try drawing large but not buff characters here. But I should also probably draw more skinny, and also chubby
But on to what I actually drew
So I already talked about Peach Blossom and the top Dark Choco drawing prior, so no real need to elaborate
The Dark Choco and Dark Cacao one was me drawing them in their younger forms to see how they compare. Not for any sort of study thing, but just in a symbolic sort of way. Since they’re so similar looking
I think I had a lot more fun with Choco, especially his hair. I remember Cacao being mostly annoying for his weird cloak thing that I don’t understand
The hand pose was ass though. I knew the general idea of what I wanted, that being them with their hands over their swords, but I was struggling to figure out how to draw the hands. Not to mention I had to change the pose from the red sketch because the swords were further down than I put them. I still don’t think I did the pose exactly correct, but screw it, it’s good enough
I’m also noticing that Choco looks way lighter in skin tone compared to Cacao. Like yeah, I know he’s normally slightly lighter, but it’s far more noticeable here. I’m pretty sure it’s because I used Dark Choco’s ToA colors here (bc they work better with my black lineart), which are slightly lighter, as well as just that Dark Choco is wearing much lighter colors while Dark Cacao’s are relatively darker. So maybe it just makes them contrast more
I liked drawing them, but I also did basically do the same body type 3 in a row, so I should probably draw different characters
Anyways, let’s talk about that extra sketch
So for those who likely don’t remember, that there is an OC of mine called Prickly Pear Cookie
Tumblr media
I made her entirely on a whim one day, and she doesn’t really have any character or story, just vibes, but I really like her design and wanted to draw it again
I probably should give her some sort of bra though. The shirtless chest looks cool but in my opinion sounds really uncomfortable without at least that
I did originally draw her with the green skin, but it looked weird so I shifted it to more of a yellow so it looks more human
Honestly I really like how she turned out
But yeah, I think that’s about it for now. Just wanted to show this

[Please click for better quality!]
I have finally... FINALLY finished this. This was meant to be a relatively quick thing, but of course because I have literally zero chill it took upwards of ten hours across three days.
Under the cut are some ramblings about symbolism and my process, as well as the original redraw "meme" this is based on:
Tumblr media
Ramblings:
So this originally started as another ship, but then I realised that longing look at something you can never have is very Reki post episode 6. I deliberately chose a cool toned colour scheme for the whole picture except Reki, so he'd stands apart more and look out of place to visualise how he feels that second half of the series.
I also initially planned to make Langa's scarf blue (like i think it is in canon, in those baby pics? I didn't check because I scrapped that idea before I would have needed to) but then decided against it for two reasons:
1. it would've been too much blue, and a separation between the light tones of the head and torso areas divides up the picture nicely.
and 2. I wanted the very dark tone to be somewhat sinister and give the impression of a noose around his neck, symbolising Adam's hold on him :)
Partway through the lineart i made some very subtle changes to Langa's expression compared to the original billboard, which just looks radiantly joyful. To fit Langa's conflicted feelings (on one hand he's thrilled to be skating against talented skaters in the tournament, but on the other he's anxious and worried about having made a mistake and drifting apart from Reki). To show those things, I gave his eyebrow a little quirk that creates a little wrinkle, and the corner of his mouth a tiny line of tension.
I also really liked the "It's like burning" line from the billboard, and thought it fit really well with Reki's pain as well. Even among all the snow, what he feels is burning him up. And as @piiloh-case pointed out to me, strong temperatures always feel like burning, whether they're hot or cold.
This last thing has nothing to do with symbolism, but I tried out a new colouring/shading style and I'm really liking it :) I think I'm not made for the soft shaded look, so I might go with this in the future.

since your art style has changed (and i love how expressive and mischievous? it feels now, idk if that makes sense but i admire the heck out of your growth) what does your process look like now? do you use the same brushes as before? do you want to talk about what you love about your work now? i saw your tag about tlt redraws now that you like your art and it made me curious. anyway love your art so much, nori!
hi!! thank you so much for this very cool question!! i guess before i just drew without much putting any thought to like... anything at all haha, only when i started doing comics was when i actively tried to make myself enjoy the process more.
i just thought about what I hated and tried to change it and just do a lot more art studies in my own time and try to really think about everything... like composition ! and like with colors, i didn't like how i only used to use desaturated tones, when i enjoyed more colors in other art i see.
or with poses, i didn't like how everything i drew felt very static to me, it still does but i'm getting better!! so i've studied dynamic-ness and whatnot.
i didn't like how "realistic" i would naturally go with proportions while drawing when my personal taste enjoyed more cartoon-ish and whimsical proportions, so i tried to be a little bit more loose with that but i'm not all there yet. for example, when i do some reference studies in my own time i find myself copying it 1:1 as it is, so now i try to incorporate it into a specific style without just copying it, it doesn't feel like i benefited otherwise!
i'm also trying to currently improve my lineart, i'm finding it much more enjoyable to draw with a thin brush! my lines were often thick and bulky and not super clean.
and yes!! i used to be loyal to like one or two brushes but i'm just trying new things constantly and it definitely affects the general vibe of the drawing, i've been obsessed with pencil brushes but i'm retiring it for a bit for a more jagged brush that i'm obsessed with now lol (still haven't posted anything with that, (working on it) but it totally changed the vibe.)
i feel like i often know when something looks right but i struggle on how to get there at times, but lately i've been seeing more right than wrong and just generally enjoying drawing.... drawing is my favorite thing.... i clocked in 9 hours yesterday on procreate.

@rascalentertainments Hey! As an apology for being gone and missing the official announcement for this DTIYS, I humbly offer my take on Asha and Star!
Tumblr media
This was too cute to resist! I love how excitable Star is and I’m working my way through reading your, Wave’s, and all other rewrites that have updated during my absence.
Original:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notes under the cut because this is getting pretty long lol
So I tried a new colouring style for this one
I was inspired by a lot of the artists I saw on Art Fight, and tried to incorporate that into my style
Specifically, the bold lineart and colour-blocked sections
It’s both easier for me long-term, and helps me create a finished piece without too much shading
That said, I did go crazy with the shades and tones in this one, because I just loved the glow
I do like the touch of a slight sunset/sunrise in the background, as it adds more warmth and magic to the piece
I LOATHE that bold line around Star’s cape but this is the photo I emailed over to my phone, so this is what you’re stuck with
While we’re at the improvements, comparing to your piece, Star and Asha look a bit stiff. I’ll have to work on some gesture movements
On the other hand, I really like the sky! It reminds me of Princess and the Frog
I also think the flow effect I did around Star looks reminiscent of pixie dust, which is a cool nod to Peter Pan!
The metal (?) bracelet I’m proud of— again, learning form other writings on Art Fight
I’m. Not sure about Star. He has a very cool face shape, nose and eyes wise, and I think I sort of generalized him here. Oh well, this means I’ll probably be doing more practice doodles of him in the future!
I do think that your Asha and Flicker’s seem very similar in my style, so I’ll work on making them more distinct in future pieces. I think RFTS!Asha has more doe eyes and a smaller nose, as well as distinct braids in her hair, where your Asha can have more upturned eyes and loose hair
I will have to find a way to make hair look loose and free in this style, but I’m quite happy with the finished result
Aaaaanyways… I hope you enjoy this! Now if you’ll excuse me, Imma go to bed lmao

What are your main inspirations for your art style? Like, how did it become how it is today?
Asking because I love it so much!
oh boy!! i'll definitely say that kim jung gi's work has inspired if not directly influenced my artstyle (lineart wise that is), then we have denis sarahzin and aleksander brodziński and perhaps a bit of leyendecker and loish - i feel like my rendering style was inspired in some ways and to varying degrees by theirs, in addition to me wanting to evoke either a traditional marker look or a soft painterly feel in some of my pieces. i also have to mention kienan lafferty's rendering style here, too! i spent a lot of time studying the way he paints when i was new to digital painting!! however, it's a bit hard to pinpoint exactly every artstyle ever that has affected my own, because during my teenage years especially, my art style changed frequently and drastically whenever i saw cool art™ and tried to incorporate elements of it into my own... lately though i feel like i started trying to reach a balance between what feels natural/comfortable to draw while also making it look appealing AND experimenting a little! :) thank you for the ask and much much love!! 💕

Would you be willing to talk about the inspiration for you sinti, shunti, kanunuk, & nunni designs? They're really cool!
absolutely !!! :D i usually have pretty explicit stuff that im referencing or am inspired by so im always happy to share <3
*ramble incoming*
Tumblr media
[the dr pepper cans are how you know im a real southern usa babe. earlier today there was 5 empty cans in a row until i put them in the recycle bin]
i take a Lot out of the book "sun circles and human hands: the southeastern indians - art and industry" (2001 edition, not the 1957 one) which i have a physical copy of and i have sticky notes tabbing out out and also annotated highlighting every mention of the chickasaw and of sites where i know the chickasaw [or our ancestors, like the chicaza and other early mississippian/SE ntv cultures] so i can reference stuff i know would be from us, but i also take inspiration from all the designs in it because we were all a part of an interconnected cultural network of art
if you are from a tribe that would be from mississippian culture or the southeastern ceremonial complex/southeastern cult as it used to be called, or you know your people wouldve come from places within that like spiro or moundville, and you want to bring more native styling into your art this is THEEE book i would recommend. it is insanely useful. i cant vouch 100% for the text of it, and the second half is mostly kinda grainy b&w scanned photos of pottery and other items lmao, but the first half has lineart depictions OF designs found, with the attribution for the site they were found at. it is a Massive wealth of symbols and style and has been the best thing for wanting to study and emulate SE ndn art. for real i lent a copy to my grandma and then couldnt find where it was and i had to just order a new copy bc i use it so damn much
like i would post pages of it, and before i bought it i survived off the pinterest pics of scanned pages, but i cannot say enough just buy the book and look through it bc its just perfect its so useful. just posting a few pages doesnt do any justice to the wealth of style and art in it. ive tried to make myself some mock style/symbol guides from it, but even those fail to capture the variety of stuff in there and its why i still have it on hand for reference bc every time i get stumped theres so many ideas in there
but ok . book rec rant over (partly.)
i had done sinti homma, the red snake earlier, and i wanted to do a little motley of other simple transparent animals to go with it. so i did! ive got a few different animals that i played with doing, but a lot of them ended up veering too much off of the more hardline ntv style i wanted to do, and the others didnt fit the guideline i had made - i wanted them all to have a pointed tail that pointed to some corner of the frame, and curl around in the square a bit to have more of a sense of motion. i was thinking deer, turtle, spider... but none of those really fit that. so i flipped thru SC&HH for some ideas and came up with some :3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the bottom left one on the first pic there gave me a good idea of what to do with a rat tail, and on the bottom right of that same pic is the Fattest fucking fish and i lifted a lot of that design to use for my fish (and while we're here, the rattler tails on the top right of that pic were what i used for sinti hommas tail), and the bottom left on the second pic gave me the idea for the lizards legs/feet shape, and then i used the chickasaw vocab flashcards of animals to think of animal ideas and so i used the pinti from there to jump me off into doing a rat
theyre all named after the chickasaw words - sinti (snake), shunti (rat/rodent), kanunuk (lizard, specifically green striped lizard, which is why i made it green with stripes lol), nunni (fish) . i use the chickasaw dictionary webpage a lot these days though i should use my dictionary copies more bc they use the spelling style i dont prefer lol
i also want to do maybe a sort of pop art style big print of them, like repeated with different colors behind them? and/or them in a medicine wheel? but those are still wip so we shall see!

For the fandom asks!!
4, 14, 15, 19, 22 (for any character), 23, and 24 (again, any character!!
4. Is there a popular pairing you don't necessarily dislike but aren't too invested in?
Not really. I mean there's plenty of ships that I don't really supply any content for, including like I would say the big 3 but it's more because I don't really think of then often....I guess that's technically the exact definition...
14. Is there a character or ship you were so sure you would never write/draw but now you've changed your mind?
I mean, I think the majority of things I've made are pretty much all wish or Jou, so this is a bit harder to think of. I will say going by who I liked when I was younger, maybe Ryuzaki/shrimp? I have ideas I want to do with them, but when I was younger I don't think I would have ever thought about them?
15. Have you noticed your style change over time?
Yes! Absolutely. I mean it's still developing but I have at least seen an improvement!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first is from like 2019? Maybe 2020? Then, like the most recent two and even from those I'm noticing a difference from that middle one until now. My style is still developing as I use references a lot, and I always feel like it keeps shifting depending on the reference I choose? I definitely feel like I've gotten more confident in my lineart and how I do that!
19. What's your favourite thing about [fandom] (the people in it, not the media you're all enjoying together)?
I love this fandom so much. I love that, for the most part, people are so kind and encouraging of each other (at least with the ones I've been interacting with)! We can all be a bit silly, but it's so much fun.
22. Give us a headcanon for [Shizuka]
I headcanon her as having diabetes. I saw someone post one time that whole thing about Jou asking Yugi if he needed insulin. When someone is shaky, like insulin wouldn't be great because when you're shaky, it's usually due to low blood sugar, and insulin would lower it further. Anyway in the post it was talking about how Jou seemed to have an understanding of it but was a bit off and what if it's because Shizuka had it and he had some understanding of it when he was younger. Anyway, I kind of latched onto that idea, especially with her having health conditions that we don't really get to learn about.
23. Has your favourite character/ship changed over time?
Answered here!
24. What's your favourite thing about [Honda]?
His loyalty and love for others. Boy is for real a ride or die for the ones he loves and cares about. He would go to the ends of the Earth for Jou. And he was so concerned (or jealous) about Jou's new friendship. I also love how he tried so hard to come off as this stoic cool guy, but he is a big, loveable goofball who is into romance. Absolutely adore him!

The moon dress by @honeynutios ft The Calypsona
I've seen so many of the Sun dress but next to none of the moon so I thought I should fix that <3
Also introducing my sona for this account as a whole, Calypso or as I like to call them The Calypsona
Also also I tried a new sorta style with the no shading and bright colour lineart!! I think it's pretty cool but not something I wanna do too often yk

3, 5, 22?
3. Show us your oldest piece of art you have on hand.
Tumblr media
This took me ages to locate, but I have a notebook from, roughly age 12. I think this might've been a character of mine, who was a flying tiger? Who may have also had fire powers?
5. Do you practice other styles/have you tried other styles in the past?
I'm almost constantly trying new styles. Whatever I'm doing at any given moment is likely inspired by the last thing I'd seen and thought looked cool. Specifically, I keep telling myself that I want to do more with solid and clean lineart, but every time it doesn't quite come out how I want it to, so that's going to perpetually land on the "try it again next time" list.
22. List at least one of your “artspirations.”
The best thing to come out of this Charles portrait hullabaloo was me discovering Jonathan Yeo. I clicked with that man's art so hard and will probably be drawing from it in the near future.

I challenged myself to try and mimic the style and designs of seven different artists. And what better subject to draw than technoblade who has some of the most varied designs.
Each artist's style proved to have its own challenges and I've learned a lot of new techniques while I studied them, some which I might even start incorporating into my own art moving forward.
This was very fun to do, thank you to the artists who volunteered (and to those who got selected out of the blue). Please go check out everyone here, they are all extremely skilled and cool people.
Artists featured:
@casboar
@altadoodler
@nachosforfree
@sapphic-omen
@insyndiar
@angst-and-fajitas
@syntiment
↓  Close ups of each and added commentary below the cut ↓
Tumblr media
Casboar was the first one I tackled and I may or may not have had a mild breakdown having to remember how to digitally paint people. But being able to keep in some of my construction lines helped in figuring stuff out. Their Techno design is very fun to draw, big fan of the dad bod.
Tumblr media
Alta's style intimated me a lot going in due to the more stylized 'cartoonish' feel and the fact that I had to use a brush I'm not as familiar with. But after I finished the sketch I knocked out the lineart in a few minutes and it was easy sailing from there. His stye was actually really fun to draw in once I got comfortable, good shapes there.
Tumblr media
Going into this I was the most anxious to draw in this style, I was extremely worried I'd butcher the lineart. But similar to Alta, after I doodled for a bit I was able to get into a good flow and knock this one out pretty quickly. I also had to improvise on the brush since I don't actually have any pixely brushes.
Tumblr media
This was the first style to be really challenging. I couldn't find a brush that fit right and all of my sketches were too similar to how I normally draw. So I ended up sitting on their blog and staring at their art for a few hours until I finally pushed myself to start. I probably stayed a little too close to the original sketch since there's definitely some messy parts.
Tumblr media
This is the one I procrastinated on. Syn's way of shading/lighting is so cool looking but also terrifying when I remembered I had to do it. I had to alter the sketch several times and marked out where the highlights and shades were going to go. I definitely could have pushed the colors more for better contrast but I got to the point where I was too scared to keep working on it in fear of messing something up.
Tumblr media
Realism has never been my strong suit and this is the one I'm the least happy with. Emma's art style kind of reminds me of d&d art and I tried to channel that when drawing but the sketch was too close to how I normally draw and the lineart got messy as a result of that. I should have pushed the value in the shading too but same with Syn's it just got to a point where I was too scared to keep messing with it.
Tumblr media
I decided to go monochrome for Syntiment. It looked better that the colored version I did and also I think it just makes stand out more there were also a lot more references to work with. Unfortunately long hair is my enemy, I struggle a lot in drawing it and I had like three layers of sketches just for the hair. I also drew this and Emma's back to back so if they look similar no they don't

I will get down on my hands and knees and beg you for a tutorial on how you draw. Your lines, cross hatching, it looks so simple but so GREAT you make me want to chew on the walls.
well: i taught myself how to draw over a ridiculous 13 years of trial and error and "messing around".... any appearance of Knowledge or Foundations or Anatomy has basically been hardcoded into myself via the silliest and most literal kind of "style evolution" possible O__O i prob shouldn't go into detail on how i draw specific things/people bc i'd only embarrass myself! but i CAN get into the Technical side... >:D
as probably most ppl know or can guess, i draw everything traditionally with fineliners! more specifically i use a Four Pen System that i devised for maximum consistency/legibility...
Tumblr media
0.1mm - shading, detail, tiny stuff!
0.3mm - most things, like characters and lettering!
0.7mm - BOLD lettering, speech bubble outlines, thicker lineart!
1.2mm - panel outlines, VERY BOLD lettering!
(optional: a brush pen for filling black bits in :P anything like that can be done in post though.)
i also use a non-photo blue pencil for all my sketching! VERY useful when scanning finished stuff >:)
as for the linework itself... my hands jitter a lot when i try drawing slow focused lines, so i usually just draw everything as quickly Yet precisely as possible :P it takes a weird kind of care to get right, but drawing on paper also helps - the friction keeps me steady lol! i find my hand just kinda darts and skips across, leaving a lot of messy dots behind, but i still like that look ^u^
hatching is definitely the most fun part... >:P my kinda style was inspired a lot by abby howard, and a bit of mizugiri (and above all, by never thinking to use proper screentones)! the usual straight-ahead hatching is obvs just muscle memory, and praying i don't mess up lol - but once you have that down, then just look around for more creative uses! i love doing curvy crosshatching around complex shapes, and coming up with wacky background shading... i've also tried out a depth-of-field effect, 'drawing' background objects by hatching and layering blurry shading on top >u> (also, i don't usually go for Full 90-degree crosshatching... just slowly raising the angle as i add more layers of shading feels a lot more subtle and natural!)
just never stop messing around!!! that's all i've ever done!! that's how you can keep stumbling upon cool new techniques that you can then suck up and add to your comicking arsenal ^u^

Hello friends it's another sunday I wanna share my art progress with you! At first tho I wanted to thank you guys for all the likes and shares, I would have never thought people would read my blog and seeing a positive reaction to my first blog is incredibly nice, thanks to everyone! This week wasn't as productive due to me finishing a game I started back in summer and getting a new fishtank! Firstly I wanna show you my fish, this foto was taken at the pet store. He has since moved into his 54l fishtank at home.
Tumblr media
His name is Oki, inspired by the game I finished this week, which was Okami HD. Anyways enough for my life outside of art, here are my pieces for this week.
Week 2: (14.2.-20.2.2022)
My first piece was teased at the end of my last blog so I wanna start with this!
*My art trade with vfore on discord!*
Tumblr media
Here is the fully completed piece, this took me multiple days but I'm super happy with this! It's my friend's Rito character baking an apple pie at night (why at night? I'm not sure I started painting in the night sky randomly). My focus this year will be on full, detailed illustrations that tell stories and I'm glad I already made a bunch of those. I also can see a little progress from me starting to make big illustrations to where we are now, which makes me really excited to see where I'll be at the end of the year.
My second piece this week
*My modsona valentine*
Tumblr media
This piece technically wasn't created this week but it was posted this week and I wanna show it. This was made for valentinesday day, as we, the mods for the zelda creators server, wanted to make sonething nice for our community. Here you have my sona, a sugarpink Zora and the fun tagline "there are many fish at the domain... but you are my prince" eluting to the fact that I have a big fat crush on the Zora prince. (Shamelessly) I think it's a super cute piece and I like my sona as well. Really nice, really fun.
My third piece
*okami Amaterasu full body*
Tumblr media
Oh my here we go, my Okami pieces. This week I played for hours untill I finally finished the game and had to imidiatly make fanart for the game. Here is a real quick full body piece of Ammy and Issun is here as well. I focussed on making the lineart the most prominent part, just like the game. I used my Sakura brush pen, even tho I have a proper japanese brush pen that I was not that comfident in using.
My forth piece
*more Ammy and Issun*
Tumblr media
Hey look, the actual japanese brush pen. For this piece I actually tried using the proper pen and I really love the result! Looks super authentic to the game's art style and I wanna do more Okami art, using this brush pen. For now I wanted to draw the canine warriors, maybe queen Otohime, I'm not quite sure.
Lastly I remade my commission sheets
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not expecting getting any commissions here but I'm posting this up, just in case.
And this was all I made this week, as I said very little sadly but hey, I have another two weeks of break so I still have plenty of time to make cool stuff. See y'all next sunday!

surprise, surprise, i tried another new brush
this one is actually easier to colour with because i can auto select it (if i duplicate the lineart layer) which is neat
the top two are redesign concepts for a character i made last year, but designed poorly in a rush to get him out of my head (his name is Rhody, and he’s pretty cool, although i have no idea how i’m going to redesign his sibling because wheelchairs are hard af to draw)
obviously some Aziraphale and Crowley, they are now my go-tos for testing new brushes and styles (can you blame me??)
and a little doodle-me i drew in a maths book that i liked enough to make it digital (idk how my nose works but that’ll do)
also i’ve realised that it’s incredibly hard to get your own features right because you need to take photos because you can’t look at yourself from all angles in a mirror, and your own view of yourself also slightly altars it (no matter how you look at yourself), then factor in stylisation, and then… whatever comes out?? anyway, fun stuff.
also!! no digital art for about four days,, i’ll be away for a little (annoyingly) and i can’t bring my stuff, but i can bring a sketchbook and i have my phone so i may get some drawings done then
anyway, if you got this far, hello, you’re pretty cool and i hope you have a lovely day :]
