In an ideal world I think it would be so great and fun if all of the strawhats developed all 3 forms of Haki but in actuality I think only 3 of them would develop conqueror’s specifically and those 3 are Luffy, Zoro, and Nami.
There’s just something about the way that it operates & the conditions that have to be met (dominating the will of others + qualities of a king) that I think most apply to those 3 specifically. Luffy and Zoro we’ve already seen in canon, and I think that their “domination” is represented in their dreams because they’re the only two straw hats whose dream is specifically a superlative: to be the best in their field. While Nami’s dream is not like that, the way she operates in the ship and the way she fights and the way she draws strength is through domination in the way that the other straw hats don’t. In order to keep the crew together she has to bend everyone to her will and she does regularly, even soundly defeating the two conqueror’s Haki users. Nobody else expresses domination as a trait like that except her. There’s a throwaway joke where Jinbe thinks she’s using conqueror’s when scolding Luffy and tbh I don’t think it’s a joke I fully buy into it.
With regards to qualities of a king: I take that to mean leadership qualities as expressed through Nami. Luffy and Zoro both are considered to be de facto leaders of the group (Captain and right hand/unofficial vice captain) but Nami is the behind the scenes day to day leader and I think this is a big point in her favor of gaining qualities like this. The superlatives argument works well here too because what Nami wants, although not necessarily the “best”, is to have had knowledge of absolutely everything the world has to offer: with regards to scale, her dream might be the largest because she intends to cover and know everything and I do think that has a kingly quality to it.
Anyway I think it would be very funny and very in character for Nami if she develops conquerors Haki and is excellent at using it but cannot use or is very weak in the other two.

"There is that final embrace that I think helps with letting his brother go in a way. Juan has been the one who drove Cesare to become what he is now, and I think Cesare is building walls around his heart. You do get colder and less sentimental when you take that path. He has to go on and he can't mourn him forever, especially since he's responsible for his death. He's not making excuses for what he is anymore, and what he wants to be. He ultimately feels that it's the right thing for himself. It's something that he focused on and I think he can control his mind into having no second thoughts. And that's the only way you can rule in that era, really." — FRANÇOIS ARNAUD

“but shal, how could crowley have slept with naomi when fergus macleod wasn’t alive yet????”
well. for starters, “mesopotamia” could’ve just been a general poetic.
but also could be as simple as… he didn’t.
he has intel on her. and he’s posturing, as usual. because that’s what crowley does.
double entendres and innuendos are his weapons of choice to sow distrust, suspicion, discomfort, derision. to put you off balance, if he can. (and if that fails, he’ll switch to insults or, at worst, incessant goading.)
And the thing is… almost ALL his posturing is sexual. it’s how he wields power (from what traditionally tends to be from a weaker position)
it’s more about how he operates and fergus’s victimhood/ historical demon trauma more than it is a statement of de facto truth
he wants you to read into it
get distracted; get discomfited
just long enough to take your eye off the ball or give him the upper hand in a power struggle
#posturing characters#weak position banter#about crowley#crowley and naomi#fergus’s demon trauma#one of the fascinating things about crowley is#like rowena and sam he is not good w ppl nor particularly charismatic#which makes him a weak hell king#the sam rowena crowley triad of ambition#they’re all three wily persistent dangerous#but not naturally charismatic by nature i don’t think#sam’s moreso got a heroism ppl respond to but not as natural at decision making responsibility carrying#sam is better in larger groups seems to struggle when they get too close#crowley tho#anyway he inspires no loyalty in hell#then he spirals in a fit of caesarian paranoia and keeps reaching for more power to solve for his own inadequacies#crowley is excellent with tactics leading up to a power grab#lucifer has similar issues but has more cognitive empathy i think#lucifer is confident and crowley isn’t#and lucifer’s cognitive empathy contrasts crowley’s most self-directed emotions (crowley’s insecurity at work)#for example…#sam tries to kill crowley and crowley is like ?????#conveniently propping himself and his own efforts up INSTEAD of remembering he killed ppl sam saved and loved like 2 seconds ago#lucifer’s cognitive empathy is like oh yeah 👍 guess i deserved getting locked in AU world#lucifer isn’t just physically stronger… he’s better at reading ppl than crowley is#uncool kids table with sam metatron rowena crowley#crowley is NOT self reflective very much at all#i can count on one hand#crowley is actually less introspective than lucifer which is saying something#like sam crowley analyzes others but rationalizes his own behavior

I change my vision depending on the selfship tbh
#riv rambles#I know some people have a set one but#I really do think depending on the selfship and the setting#the vision and the archon/message of said vision#would vary#like for example with alhaitham it’s electro because#I interpret electro vision wielders to be people of a specific ambition or goal#raiden and eternity or yae and freeing ei or dori and mora or kujo sara and being loyal to the shogun or cyno and upholding justice#there’s a hyper specific goal that all electro vision wielders are very centered and focused around that they are canonically vry ambitious#about achieving/maintaining#with alhaitham my selfship insert is very ambitious and dedicated to integration of desert children to the akademiya and just better#integration of the desert folks in the political system in general in sumeru#and with Wriothesley and Kinich it would be pyro because#I interpret pyro vision wielders to have one specific passion that they are very attached to#it’s not more so an ambition but more so a constant that they hold very dear and are passionate about#amber with the knights and klee with her explosives and lyney with magic and xiangling with cooking and yoimiya w fireworks + yanfei w law#bennett with adventuring and Hu Tao with business and xinyan with music and again the list goes on#anyway I think in the case of my selfship with wrio my insert is rather passionate about prison reform and in my selfship with Kinich it#centers around being passionate about the nation itself and natlan’s wellbeing/safety in an ongoing war with the abyss#and with ayato its cryo bc i think cryo vision wielders are people who have two sides of themselves constantly at battle#diona hates alcohol but makes fantastic drinks. kaeya conflicted with loyalty to his ancestry vs his nation atm. Eula conflicted with her#clan identity vs being a knight. Ayaka conflicted with duty vs living life as she pleases. shenhe and ganyu struggle between the adeptal#and human worlds since they’re involved with both#qiqi is alive but dead. freminet is loyal to the house of the hearth but wishes to also be free. and wrio ofc is in some ways a hero and#in some ways a criminal and those conflicting natures of his actions are at odds with each other very complexly so#ANYWAY#ofc again the list goes on but#for ayato I would consider my insert a cryo wielder because I think that being an arranged marriage#there’s conflict of duty vs personal choice and freedom but also not wanting to hold affection for him at first vs developing it anyway#labeling myself to one vision element for my insert all across the board I suppose leaves no room for the nuances of visions themselves

ill be honest there's something really funny about people adding edelgard (and hubert ig) to monastery chess clubs bc she technically canonically sucks at tactics. this is not what the game's narrative wants to convey but when you start a war with ample time to prepare a massive military force plus the element of surprise and also you have the Mole Sorcerers of Nefarious Plotting more or less on your side and then over the course of five years you don't succeed in annihilating a nation where you have already installed a puppet government and you haven't even had the chance to start in on the other nation on the continent i will say you are not beating the sucks at warfare strategies allegations.

ngl thomas boleyn wanting elizabeth to get his lands got me. i wish people gave him a chance and didn't act like he was some monster. so why didn't elizabeth get them? and is it true henry "seized" hever once thomas' mom was dead? shouldn't that have gone to mary?
It got me, as well.
I'm of two minds on his reputation, however, as far as that goes...I don't think he deserves to be villainized to the extent he has been (he was human, and protective and proud of his family, and cared for them, as several details of evidence suggest, such as Anne's letter from 1513 which he kept 'perfectly preserved'), but also, I do like...get it? He was a flawed man, he was not above throwing his weight around when he felt challenged or disrespected, and his lack of support for his literal daughter when she was widowed (until his other daughter and the King intervened to pressurize him to provide more financial support) cannot be defended.
Also while I do love Mackay's biography and believe it was illuminating, my take was that the apologism went too far. While Boleyn did not sit on the actual jury which condemned two of his children, he did sit upon the one which condemned the lower-ranking men of 'adultery with the Queen'. This was his choice, as much as the narrative of "refuse the King at your own peril" (or, indignatio princips mors est, iyw) remains strong, more often (until it came to issues of supremacy), one refused the King at the loss of their own status, favour, preferment, perhaps wealth and land.
Tl;dr "Thomas Boleyn did not have a choice" gives me the same feeling of when "AB, JS, KH, KP" (sometimes even COA and Anne of Cleves...weirdly) "didn't have a choice in marrying Henry VIII" is said. I'm wary of minimizing the agency and choice of, particularly, those of the highest echelons of society, esp. when we're dealing with an era where victims of brutality of comparatively little agency (Mark Smeaton, etc.) also numbered significantly. The Tudor nobility had more access to choice than most people of their time.
As far as Hever, I don't believe it was seized after the death of Margaret Butler, it does seem to have gone to Mary, although I don't really have a firm grasp on the details (like, my understanding was that it was granted to Anne of Cleves, so...?):
"With no heir, Thomas' properties reverted to the Crown, including his earldoms. Prior to his death, it seemed that Thomas had begun to reconcile with his only living daughter, Mary. Within weeks [of the death of Thomas Boleyn], Thomas' daughter Mary Stafford and her husband [...] received much of Boleyn's property portfolio, including Hever and Rochford Hall." Among the Wolves of Court: The Untold Story of Thomas and George Boleyn, Lauren Mackay
The official Hever Castle website, however, states that James Boleyn inherited Hever and sold it to the crown in 1540 (which would explain how it could be granted to Anne of Cleves, I suppose, although it seems like there's a gap here...perhaps Mary sold it to her uncle, who then sold it to the crown?)
It was specifically Thomas Boleyn's lands in Essex he had wanted to grant to his granddaughter ('begun' to reconcile is maybe key here, he had, for one, not really been supportive of Mary since she was widowed in 1528, and only was when pressurized to do so, & usual precedent would suggest they should have gone to Henry Carey, but then, Elizabeth had not been reinstated into the succesion by the time he made this will, which was probably a factor in his decision, there was no guarantee she'd be entitled to any lands after the King's death in that context); and I haven't had much luck in finding out if they were ever granted to Elizabeth once she reached her majority. The only mention of her ever even holding any property in Essex (while 'Lady Elizabeth') I managed to find was dated during Edward VI's reign and refers to an exchange, not an inheritance:
"In the reissued patent letters of April 1551, Elizabeth lost her Northamptonshire holdings of Apethorpe, Wadehowe, Woodnewton, Tansor, and Yarwell, which as noted earlier had formed something resembling a local concentration of properties. In exchange, she acquired the nearly inaccessible manors of Norton Bawson in Devon and Bysleigh in Gloucestershire, along with some small manors in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Essex." From Heads of Household to Heads of State. The Preaccession Households of Mary and Elizabeth Tudor, 1516-1558. by J.L. McIntosh.

been thinking lately about character tropes + how they're often tied with morality (ex. anti-heros being often associated with anger vengeance etc.) and how fun it is to play with the audiences expectations of these characters

The world — for 3 muses of your choice.
muse headcanon questions // accepting
Tumblr media
the world  :  is there one thing in life that your muse must accomplish ? what will they do when they complete that goal ?
Nikodemus - Bring his only child back to life and let her live it as deserved. Achieve an invulnerability through which all other endeavours will be possible. He's succeeded at both. The lack of immediate urgency has lessened a lot and while he'll certainly aim higher soon enough, first he'd like to bask in the unfamiliar sensation of... not missing anything. Not carrying a devastating weight. Nothing else must be done. He's succeeded. There's an overwhelming sense of calm that comes with that.
Sally - Bring her family back together. Keep anyone else from losing their life to sleepy old Meldale. The two are mutually exclusive. She's chosen the latter, even though it's the far bigger impossibility. If she succeds, say, in five year's time, she'll treat herself to a damn vacation.
Constance - Eliminate all chaos and therefore erase the very reason for its sentience. The Tower leads a precarious existence between chaos and order; too much of either makes it - Balance itself - obsolete. And while it might fight chaos tooth and claw for its survival, its end goal is not to exist forever. It's to restore cosmic peace, strenghten its own arches to infallibility and calcify into an eternally silent statue - an inescapable tomb for all the instability and evil that rests in its bowels. Thankfully for the world, that's a near impossibility. Too much change would inevitably lead to dangerous imbalance. So, on the behemoth goes, carefully plucking needles from its haystack one by one.

the problem is that i have the temperament of a caged animal, but i also have no end goal lol haha isnt that funny. everyone start pointing and laughing already
#i used to be ambitious because i could see myself becoming someone.#im only 20 going on 21 but it feels like i died when i turned 17... i lost everything i used to run towards#and i don't know what to do with myself in the grand scheme of things which is why everything feels pointless in general#but also. if i don't force myself to get up and go through the motions#if i dont even try to push myself past my comfort zone in dose amounts#how will i ever figure out where to go.#it all feels meaningless on a day to day level because i have no goals or ambitions in terms of my entire existence but if i don't DO#anything Now how will i even figure out where to go? what to run towards again?#so i keep going. and it's so exhausting but i keep on fucking going#i hate the part of myself that's so desperate to be seen. why am i so desperate for recognition#it doesnt MEAN anything so many people get recognized and still feel alone and empty#a small tiny example of that: when i won second in a spanish literature competition this February#my prof and head of the department congratulated me and told me they thought i did really well...#my prof even told me she thought i should pursue literature#and i was immensely flattered but it felt fake.#it all felt like lies#i couldn't couldn't feel happy because i was so stuck feeling like an incoherent pile of experiences and emotions#rather than a Person#and because of that i couldn't believe anything nice or real that anyone that was telling me#i don't know what i need anymore. to disappear honestly. i don't think i was meant to be a person#z.post

if i had a nickle for every time there were racist, xenophobic, ablist, fascist, and overall nazi-ish characters in a childrens books who dont really change overall after the racist xenophobic, ablist, facist and overall nazi (coded?) villain is defeated, with the villains main notable flaw being claimed by other characters as "ambition"
as if to just.. ignore the fact that these issues are hardwired into the other background characters as a part of world building and conflict
well.. you know

Learn from me, if not by my percepts, at least by my example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier that man is who believes his native town to be the world than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will allow.

"The end of Anne Boleyn marks the more sinister transformation in Henry's kingship which underlay his solemn protestations of spiritual headship and godly reform. Nobody could now call him to account in the sacred or secular realm, and although it goes too far to say that his will was law, since some respect was still due to the judicial process, the legal travesty of Anne's trial and execution shows what his unchecked authority could achieve. It also illustrated the forces which Henry had unleashed by breaking with Rome. From this point onwards, political division would be matched by a level of ideological division previously unknown. Anne had been backed by those who supported religious reform and sneered at papal pretension; her fall was hastened by the efforts of those whose loyalties lay with Princess Mary and the Catholic past. Cromwell had slipped adeptly (and temporarily) from the former group to the latter, and such political reinventions were to remain common, but many continued to be fired by strong religious convictions, allowing religious division to exacerbate political tensions to a dangerous extent." (Henry VIII, Lucy Wooding)
+
"For all Henry's protestations of the contrary, the atmosphere at his court in his final years was almost as unsettled and claustrophobic as during the Wars of the Roses. John Husee answered the charge that he no longer sent reports of state affairs to the Lisles by explaining, 'I thereby might put myself in danger of my life...for there is divers here that hath been punished for reading and copying with publishing abroad of news; yea, some of them are at this hour in the Tower.' Civil order was maintained, but only because Henry sold the bulk of the confiscated monastic lands at rock-bottom prices to willing purchasers to create a whole new class of property-owners with a vested interest in the status quo. Spies and informers stalked the country, safe-conducts were needed to travel abroad and the posts were intercepted-- no one felt completely safe." (Hunting the Falcon, Fox&Guy).
#yeah...this was the watershed moment#this is why these three are the tudor historians i tend to reccomend the most; they have the clearest vision of tudor politics imo#it wasn't the gm which was the turning point that made court divisions worse than ever before. it was may 1536- which made this a reality#things that make you go hmmm.#and i do agree with fox/guy here but i think they argued this better with different examples in different sections#(the atmosphere which led to rebellion; etc.#the Lisle quote is a good piece to support this argument#but spies and informers in the country and safe conducts needed is...slippery#this was also the case during his father's reign. and edward iv's. and many abroad. so . like... )#and i do think the 'almost' is also key here. i wouldn't agree with this at certain points . or 'as much' which has been argued.#bcus for all the conflict hviii did avoid civil war. so...#it isn't to say all was or would be rosy had anne remained queen either. but it is to say as wooding argued...#that this shattered his image and credibility and no one escaped. like...i think it's just interesting to think about#how the exeter conspiracy would've shaped out in the context of the boleyn faction's survival. and how interesting it is#that all their enemies perished at the expense of this man's paranoia . that they had to face the fate they believed their own#enemies deserved...the same scaffold. the same terror .#also some of the jury who condemned them facing execution soon themselves#all just very indicative of how cutthroat courtier ambition was#you could hack and hack and hack away at all the vines but it still might not prevent them from growing back and strangling you instead

The differences in my ocs lore is so funny because i’ll be like
“This is persephone. Shes a mom of five, does yoga and meditation, walks everywhere around her neighborhood and rules the pta with an iron fist. Shes also the queen of hell.”
While also being like
“This is amethyst. She is never just some girl, no, no she is barbie of her world. She does everything, and simultaneously nothing at all. Shes a god. She is an ant in the universe. She is above and also below.”
And you can tell exactly which is the one i made in middle school vs high school lol
