"The end of Anne Boleyn marks the more sinister transformation in Henry's kingship which underlay his solemn protestations of spiritual headship and godly reform. Nobody could now call him to account in the sacred or secular realm, and although it goes too far to say that his will was law, since some respect was still due to the judicial process, the legal travesty of Anne's trial and execution shows what his unchecked authority could achieve. It also illustrated the forces which Henry had unleashed by breaking with Rome. From this point onwards, political division would be matched by a level of ideological division previously unknown. Anne had been backed by those who supported religious reform and sneered at papal pretension; her fall was hastened by the efforts of those whose loyalties lay with Princess Mary and the Catholic past. Cromwell had slipped adeptly (and temporarily) from the former group to the latter, and such political reinventions were to remain common, but many continued to be fired by strong religious convictions, allowing religious division to exacerbate political tensions to a dangerous extent." (Henry VIII, Lucy Wooding)
+
"For all Henry's protestations of the contrary, the atmosphere at his court in his final years was almost as unsettled and claustrophobic as during the Wars of the Roses. John Husee answered the charge that he no longer sent reports of state affairs to the Lisles by explaining, 'I thereby might put myself in danger of my life...for there is divers here that hath been punished for reading and copying with publishing abroad of news; yea, some of them are at this hour in the Tower.' Civil order was maintained, but only because Henry sold the bulk of the confiscated monastic lands at rock-bottom prices to willing purchasers to create a whole new class of property-owners with a vested interest in the status quo. Spies and informers stalked the country, safe-conducts were needed to travel abroad and the posts were intercepted-- no one felt completely safe." (Hunting the Falcon, Fox&Guy).
#yeah...this was the watershed moment#this is why these three are the tudor historians i tend to reccomend the most; they have the clearest vision of tudor politics imo#it wasn't the gm which was the turning point that made court divisions worse than ever before. it was may 1536- which made this a reality#things that make you go hmmm.#and i do agree with fox/guy here but i think they argued this better with different examples in different sections#(the atmosphere which led to rebellion; etc.#the Lisle quote is a good piece to support this argument#but spies and informers in the country and safe conducts needed is...slippery#this was also the case during his father's reign. and edward iv's. and many abroad. so . like... )#and i do think the 'almost' is also key here. i wouldn't agree with this at certain points . or 'as much' which has been argued.#bcus for all the conflict hviii did avoid civil war. so...#it isn't to say all was or would be rosy had anne remained queen either. but it is to say as wooding argued...#that this shattered his image and credibility and no one escaped. like...i think it's just interesting to think about#how the exeter conspiracy would've shaped out in the context of the boleyn faction's survival. and how interesting it is#that all their enemies perished at the expense of this man's paranoia . that they had to face the fate they believed their own#enemies deserved...the same scaffold. the same terror .#also some of the jury who condemned them facing execution soon themselves#all just very indicative of how cutthroat courtier ambition was#you could hack and hack and hack away at all the vines but it still might not prevent them from growing back and strangling you instead

Spotify playlists.
There is nothing quite as satisfying as being delighted by a song you love, playing on shuffle from a playlist that you yourself curated. Yet it is inexplicable that it comes as such a surprise, because it shouldn't be. It was you that selected this song and added it to said playlist. And yet, there is something doubly feel good in the first few bars hitting your eardrums, followed by the satisfaction that you chose it. It's like catching yourself off guard with a little present for you, from you. Gift-wrapped. This is not just a song you enjoy, endlessly, but more proof of your exceptional taste (as if it were needed.) Oh yeah, I love this song. Oh yeah, it was me. Perfect.
With that in mind, we are taking today to celebrate the creation and curation of #spotify playlists, or, indeed, your streaming service of choice. They serve any mood, any moment, any purpose. Feeling melancholy at midnight? In need of soothing sounds to accompany cooking? Big, bold, and colorful songs for a blue sky sunny day? Mellow music for a bath? A NSFW saucy soundtrack to after-hours, post-watershed shenanigans? Something exciting and upbeat for Saturday night, and something else indulgent and sad for Sunday?
Whether a personal collection for your own private listening, or a collaborative compilation shared amongst friends, the simple act of creating these patchworks of sound—a musical moodboard, if you will—is simply the gift that keeps on giving.

wait could you elaborate on the snl transphobia sketch thing? i don’t use twitter and haven’t watched snl since i was a teenager so i’m out of the loop.
yeah of course. i'll do a bit of a deep dive for usefulness, but it's a very dark and upsetting story so be warned this is going to discuss transphobia, transphobic violence, sexual violence and murder.
the post was about this meme:
This is late comedian Norm Macdonald, reporting on the murder of Brandon Teena for the Weekend Update segment.
Brandon Teena was a transgender man from Nebraska. He passed so successfully that most of his social circle did not know he wasn't cis. His own girlfriend, Lana Tisdel, did not know he was trans until he was jailed for check forging and she found him in the female section when bailing him out. Word got out after this.
As a result, two men in his life -- John L. Lotter and Marvin "Tom" Nissen -- assaulted him at a Christmas party a few days later. They forced Brandon to expose his genitals to Lana, against both his and Lana's will. They then took Brandon away and gang raped him. Brandon escaped and Lana convinced him to report the rape, but the rape kit was lost and the police were expectedly hostile due to his gender.
Lotter and Nissen got wind of the report and hunted Brandon down and murdered him, along with his roommate Lisa Lambert and Lana's sister's boyfriend, Phillip DeVine. Lotter was executed and Nissen sentenced to life in prison for their crimes. Brandon, only 21 years old at the time of his death on New Year's Eve 1993, was buried under his dead name with an epitaph describing him as a "daughter" and "sister."
The SNL joke comes from Weekend Update, a segment that recounts the news of the week with a humorous slant. This meme comes from a February 1996 episode, "reporting" on the sentencing of Nissen and Lotter. Macdonald's full joke is as follows:
"And finally, in Falls City, Nebraska, John Lotter has been sentenced to death for attempting to kill three people in what prosecutors called a plot to silence a cross-dressing female who had accused him of rape. Now, this might strike some viewers as harsh, but I believe everyone involved in this story should die."
Naturally, this was heinous for a number of reasons. Even in the homophobia and transphobia of the 90s, community organizations spoke up in outrage over this. The Transexual Menace threatened to picket if SNL didn't apologize. NBC even admitted the joke was inappropriate at the time.
But still, this joke also aired almost 30 years ago, before a lot of us were even born (I myself was just a baby). While Teena's murder (along with Matthew Shepard's) was a watershed moment for the gay rights movement in America, it's not as widely discussed today. But we have a responsibility to not perpetuate this joke that was castigated even in its time. It strikes me as our responsibility to do right by our elders who held NBC to account for this and not pass this meme around and rehabilitate it unintentionally. Maybe that's overdramatic. I don't think so.

Hiii so mexican salsa YES this post is a prompt! Feel free to change it to whatever you like, but I'd love a lil' story like this:
Ian and anthony are both very obviously in love and the whole smoffice knows it, but them lmao! I'd love this fic to be just text messages or slack posts or sth, where the cast and crew report of sightings of Ian and anthony doing very ianthony stuff and not realize it themselves. Maybe they come up w a way to show or nudge them in the right direction? But Ian and Anthony will still make it a bro moment (broment) bc they think the other one just wants to be bros LMAO ~ Japhan2024 💖
@japhan2024 FANTASTIC IDEA I have to believe that the Smosh cast legit has a secret group chat for stuff like this hahaha the looks on their faces whenever Ian and Anthony do something shippy is priceless
im going to wrack my brain for my favorite moments lolol I hope you enjoy!
(mid writing note: i first wrote basically all texts but it wasn't quite flowing the way i wanted it to so now there's a little more prose lol. this also taught me i do NOT know enough crew members' names)
read on ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/56346769
---
It took Erin less than ten minutes to create The Group Chat following the slapping video caress incident.
Erin: "okay so what the fuck"
Tommy: "i'm beside myself."
Angela: "SO WE'RE FINALLY TALKING ABOUT IT"
It began, and all hell broke loose from there.
Most of the cast and crew didn't know Anthony too well when he first returned, but everyone could tell Ian began to positively glow once he came back. It had started mostly with little under-the-breath comments about how big Ian had smiled at something Anthony did, or shared glances after they looked lost in each other's worlds. It's not that everyone wanted to speculate about their bosses, but rather that their bosses were practically giving them no choice.
The real watershed moment was the birth of The Group Chat, which finally provided an outlet for all ianthony incidents witnessed by the cast and crew.
---
Shayne: "Please tell me how Anthony managed to turn his smosh cast interview into an hour of us complimenting Ian."
Tommy: "i swear he practices in his car on the way to work"
---
Erin: "not them discussing deepthroating injuries for like three whole minutes..."
Erin: "while Anthony sucks on his rainbow lollipop......"
Chanse: "they are not beating the allegations"
---
Josh: "So this is I think the fourth video I've edited where Anthony has called Ian daddy??"
Josh: "WHAT is the thought process. I just can't put it together. is Anthony just like yeah I'm going to call my bro daddy about seventeen separate times with varying levels of seriousness and that's good and het and normal."
Erin: "Josh, istg you don't see the half of it. Come watch them film and pay special attention when the cameras are OFF."
---
Erin: "im losing it"
Arasha: "oh god. what happened"
Erin: "i am not fucking kidding right now anthony just called him submissive and breedable."
Keith: "WHAT"
Erin: "he said what he said."
Angela: "BREEDABLE????????????"
Erin: "in front of god and everyone."
Angela: "BREEDABLE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"
---
Tommy: "catching up on the main channel sketches and i just have to ask"
Tommy: "How many men can Ian date in his sketches until he realizes he'd like to date one in real life?"
Chanse: "don't SPEAK to me about it"
---
Tommy: "bicurious, hmm? Ian would you like to share something with the class???"
Chanse: "hes so deep in the mental closet his art is trying to scream it at him through his subconscious."
Chanse: "ive been there 😞"
Josh: "I've never been more prepared to edit a video in my whole life"
---
Angela: "Erinnnn not u directing them to stand closer together 😭😭"
Erin: "look I'm at my wits end. I'm thinking forced proximity might do it"
Keith: "if that could work they would have gotten it during kissing currency 😙💸"
Shayne: "@ courtney is this your thought process behind wanting a kissing video"
Courtney: "HA"
Courtney: "yes."
---
Courtney: "okay so if our plan at this point is just to make them read so many fanfics about themselves out loud that they spontaneously realize they're in love, we've got to find some fics that don't contain the word 'cummies'"
Angela: "what are cummies?? 😇"
Shayne: "ANGELA I SWEAR TO GOD"
---
As the incidents kept piling up, a plot began to form. Maybe Anthony and Ian were just so oblivious that they all needed to adopt a certain 'push-comes-to-shove' mentality, and do what had to be done. Everyone agreed, they had to find a way to put them in such a charged situation that this would all finally boil over, and the astounding tension that had plagued the office would be resolved. The ultimate achievement of this long-weary Group Chat.
Erin: "okay so one more time. everyone has talked with HR, yes? and everyone slated for the vid is comfortable with the concept of spin the bottle"
Angela: "what's spin the bottle? 😇"
Tommy: "STOP"
Shayne "1) Yes for the thousandth time, we promise. 2) What the FUCK are we going to do if this bottle never lands on Anthony and Ian"
Erin: "I will keep this shoot going as long as necessary."
Shayne: "That sounds like a threat?"
Chanse: "I'm suddenly regretting my decision. May I take my week's vacation right now?"
---
Erin: "how..."
Courtney: "did you see the look in their eyes????? :O"
Angela: "FATE WAS ON OUR SIDE. IT LANDED ON THEM THREE WHOLE TIMES"
Erin: "yes but,,,,,"
Tommy: "don't speak to me I'm still reeling"
Keith: "oh please don't tell me it didn't work."
Chanse: "i just have one question. how did they kiss THREE TIMES and still not realize."
Courtney: "they were both practically levitating from giddiness"
Arasha: "they just kept looking away from each other and laughing it off... they didn't see each other's expressions 😭😭"
Angela: "guys. guys"
Erin: "what"
Angela: "do u know what this means"
Angela: "now that we've pushed them over this hurdle... They're going to start bro kissing in their sketches"
Chanse: "oh my god"
Josh: "oh fuck you're right"
Erin: "that's it."
Erin: "im quitting smosh"
Amanda: "Oh hey guys! We have a group chat?"
Shayne:

3 and 21 with Delta and Paris
3.) What were their first impressions of each other? How does that compare to their impressions of each other now?
one of my favorite underrated destroyer facts is that paris and delta have known each other since they were thirteen :(
i did write about first impressions from paris’s POV in Trigger Discipline but to summarize he thinks delta is weird/interesting and is extremely jealous of the attention he gets from the Emperor. he thinks his dad likes delta better. he is correct in this assumption.
delta’s first impression of paris was mostly just confusion about why there was another kid there. he’s not really comfortable with people his own age and he doesnt get along with them but paris is obviously trying to initiate contact with him and hes like. ok fine. these attempts all get shut down pretty quickly by outside parties but delta has enough time to gather impressions and he can pick up on the fact that paris is lonely, insecure, and self-centered. delta likes him and he feels bad for him, as much as young delta can really feel bad for anyone.
as they get older their contact is sparse, but paris grows gradually worse and more unstable and his environment really nurtures his innate selfishness in a way that becomes unmanageable. and delta realizes that paris had the potential to be really dangerous and he cant really afford to let his walls down around him anymore.
i haven’t written this but i can imagine a specific scene playing out where they’re both around fifteen. paris is doing the same thing he did before of trying to talk to delta and see if he will open up. but this time delta is very quick to shut him down and is like “please stop talking to me im not allowed to talk to you”. and paris takes the refusal personally and in response he goes out of his way to get delta in trouble for it. and that would be the moment where delta is like yeah this isnt going to work
21.) What is their worst memory together?
for Delta it is the birthday incident unquestionably. total watershed moment for their relationship and the moment is becomes incredibly clear that delta cannot trust him. it’s also the most physically and psychologically traumatic thing paris has ever done to him. awful! super awful!
i’m going to say paris’s was the same night but i think i’m going to hold off on the explanation for another time because there were a lot of things going on in his head last night. but as it relates to delta specifically he knows he went way too far and he regrets it immediately.

Meet Me In The Hallway, Chapter Eight:

rating: E (18+ only, oral (m&f rec), come play/eating?, unprotected piv but really just like c!warming?, mostly just a bunch of dad!frankie fluff)

series masterlist | frankie masterlist
“I’m going to Disney, I’m going to Disney, I’m going to—“
“Drive me crazy,” Frankie mumbled under his breath as he carried his five year old on his hip out to the car, her sparkly pink Mickey ears already on.
“Can we stop at McDonald’s for breakfast, daddy?” Rina asked as Frankie set her in her booster seat and buckled her in as Dylan came outside and lugged her suitcase behind her.
“Sure,” he said, placing her favorite blanket over her lap before giving her his tablet in hopes of distracting her from the road-trip ahead of them.
“Frankie, could you—“
Frankie was over in an instant, taking Dylan’s suitcase from her so that he could lift it into the trunk of the SUV.
“Is that everything?” he asked, resting one hand on the opened latch of the trunk and the other on his hip.
“Think so,” she replied with a small smirk growing on her lips at the sight of him standing there in full dad-on-vacation mode. “I heard talk of McDonald’s?”
Frankie laughed and nodded, the two of them moving away from the car so that he could shut the door. Leading her over to the passenger side, he opened her door for her and watched her climb in, chancing a tap on her ass that was thankfully met with a giggle.
“Keep your hands to yourself, Morales,” she grinned, letting him close her door before walking around the hood to the driver’s side and hopping in.
“Alright, ladies. McDonald’s?” Frankie asked as he started the car and checked his rearview mirrors.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah—“ Rina went on with a new song to drive Frankie crazy with, his head shaking as Dylan turned to him with a laugh.
“Put some music on,” he commanded gently, showing her how to use his stereo’s bluetooth setup before backing out of the driveway. “Only way to shut her up for the next two hours.”
“Rina, what do you wanna hear?” Dylan asked, turning in her seat to talk to the little girl who was busy playing a game on her father’s tablet.
“Ummmmmmmm…Moana!” she decided, giving Dylan a bright smile.
“Coming right up.”
Frankie couldn’t help his smile as Dylan queued up half of the Moana soundtrack without a care in the world, the two of them singing “How Far I’ll Go” at the top of their lungs all the way to McDonald’s.
“Alright,” Frankie chuckled as he pulled into the drive-thru line, turning the dial to silence the music. “What do you beauties want?”
“I want a McGiggle,” Rina said. “And orange juice.”
“A McGiggle?” Frankie chuckled. “McGriddle, baby. And okay, do you want a hashbrown too?”
“Duh,” she said, earning another chuckle as Frankie turned to Dylan, his hand coming to rest on her thigh.
“What about you, baby?” Dylan flushed at the term of endearment and rested her hand on top of his.
“I’ll take a McGriddle and orange juice, too. No hashbrown, though.” Frankie gave her an offended look, tugging his hand dramatically from her to rest over his heart.
“How dare you?” Dylan laughed and reached for his hand, bringing it back to her lap. “This is a watershed moment for us. No hashbrown?”
“I just don’t like ‘em,” she giggled. “I like all other versions of potatoes—well, not tater tots—“
“Too close to a hashbrown,” he guessed and she nodded. “Well, I guess I can overlook this one flaw.”
After grabbing their food, the trio headed out onto the interstate with Disney music as the score for their journey. Dylan’s fingers were laced with his, his eyes constantly flickering to watch her as she sang along to the music, her eyes scanning their passing surroundings with a content smile. Unable to stop himself, he lifted their joined hands to his lips, pressing a kiss to the back of hers just to watch her smile.
“This was a good idea,” he said softly, smiling at her. “Rina’s so happy, I’m so happy.”
“I’m so happy, too,” she cooed, running her free hand over his forearm. “Can’t wait to see her meet Mickey and Minnie. She couldn’t shut up about them last night.”
Frankie thought back to the night prior, the Disney movie marathon/slumber party Rina insisted on forcing the three of them to sleep on the sectional in the living room. Rina chose to cuddle up with Dylan rather than her father, but he wasn’t hurt by it in the slightest. In fact, the sight of the two of them snuggled up together actually almost brought him to tears.
Rina never had a mother, only a grandmother who tried her best to fulfill that spot, but now she had someone who was actively trying to be that for her even when Frankie never pressed for it.
“You guys were fucking adorable,” he said. “I took a picture of the two of you cuddled up and snoring without a care in the world for me.”
“You think you don’t snore?” she teased. “Please.”
“It’s charming when I do it,” he smirked. “There’s a certain grace to the way I snore—“
“Oh, shut up,” she laughed before turning the music down. “Ri, your dad said we were snoring last night.”
“Daddy, you snore! Not me,” she said, looking at the back of his head sternly.
“What about Dyllie?” he asked, looking into the rearview mirror.
“She snores too.” Frankie laughed and squeezed Dylan’s thigh until she was giggling and pushing his hand away.
“It’s fine,” he said, rubbing over her leggings to soothe his pinching. “We can snore together and be happy.”
“Sounds good, Morales.”
Rina hadn’t stopped squealing since they put the car in park at the Wilderness Lodge Resort, and for once, Frankie was cheering her excitement on, hoisting her onto his shoulders as they made their way up to the hotel room accompanied by the bellhop in charge of their luggage.
“Daddy, when can we go on rides?” she asked, drumming on her fathers hat.
“I don’t know. You didn’t take a nap on the way here so you might need one,” he said, glancing at Dylan as she walked beside them, the hope of getting her alone for just a minute outweighing his desire to head out to the park.
“I promise I won’t get grumpy, daddy,” she whined, hugging his head in hopes of charming him.
“How about you take a little, tiny nap and then we can go? Just thirty minutes,” he bargained, earning a defeated sigh.
“Fine.”
“Alright, here’s the suite,” Dylan said, pulling out the keycard to unlock the door before turning to the bellhop to give him a tip.
Frankie set Rina down and let her burn some energy out by running around the two-bedroom suite while he helped lug their bags into their respective rooms.
“Daddy, can I share a room with Dyllie?” Rina asked as she jumped on the sofa, making Frankie laugh.
“I don’t know, bebé. I thought me and Dyl would share a room.”
Dylan held in her laugh at the arguing that ensued over who she’d want to share a room with, Frankie’s mini me putting her hands on her hips just like her father always liked to do.
“Dyllie, how about you pick,” Rina said, full of sass.
“I did promise your dad I’d share a room with him,” she said, walking over to scoop her off the couch and onto her hip. “You know how he gets scared of the dark.”
“That’s true,” she sighed, tipping her head onto Dylan’s shoulder. “Okay, daddy. You can have Dyllie.”
Frankie smiled and walked over, stealing his daughter into his arms to carry her off to her bedroom with a kiss on her temple. “Thank you, bebé.”
After making sure Rina was changed into her PJ’s and tucked peacefully into bed with her favorite movie, Moana, playing in the background, Frankie made his way into the living area of the suite, finding Dylan in the other bedroom unpacking her bag onto the spare bed in the room. Walking up behind her, he slid his hands around her waist and hugged her tight to his body, his lips pressing against her shoulder.
“Hey, baby,” he mumbled against her skin.
“Hello,” she purred, reaching back to scratch at his curls. “Rina down?”
“Mmhm,” he hummed, letting his hands wander to her hips. “You wanna fool around?”
Dylan laughed, turning around in his arms.
“We don’t have very much time,” she warned with a smile, earning a shrug.
“Enough time to take care of you,” he said. “All I care about.”
“What if I wanted to take care of you?”
“We could do both,” he suggested, leaning in to kiss her softly. “A little 69.”
“Mmm,” she hummed against his lips and nodded, giggling as he pulled away to shut and lock the door. “Eager, are we?”
“You have no fuckin’ idea,” sighed, returning to her to practically pick her up over his shoulder and throw her onto the bed. Dylan was a giggling mess as he tugged her leggings and panties off and let them fly over his shoulder before stripping himself down. “Rina cockblocked me last night, I’m a desperate, desperate man, baby.”
“Well, come here,” she curled her finger at him, welcoming him between her thighs.
Frankie’s warmth covered her like a blanket, his arms slipping beneath the dip in her spine to hug her close to his chest as he kissed her languidly, his hips rocking slowly into hers. As she parted her lips to let out a moan, he slid his tongue over hers, tasting the sweetness he’d been dreaming about all night and morning.
“You taste so good, baby,” he mumbled against her cheek as his kisses trailed lower, her body covered in chills from the tickle of his beard against her neck.
“Roll over,” she demanded, pulling his face away from her neck to look into his lust drunken eyes. “We don’t have time for you to worship me right now.”
Frankie let out a breath of a laugh and nodded, rolling onto his back while she tugged her shirt over her head and let it drop onto the floor.
“Come have a seat,” he said, gesturing at his face. Dylan chuckled and obeyed, swinging her leg over his head to straddle it while her body draped over his, her cheek resting against the soft curve of his stomach. Frankie palmed the globes of her ass, spreading her open and groaning at the sight of her above him, his cock twitching as he pulled her down onto his tongue and tasted her.
“Fuck,” he mumbled against her heat, pulling a soft moan from her chest as the tip of his tongue made careful but firm circles around her swollen bud. “So sweet, baby.”
Gripping his throbbing length in her hand, she squeezed him at the base just to feel him moan against her, the sensation making her eyes roll back in her head.
“Jesus, Frankie,” she sighed, warmth already spreading from her center down her thighs and up her spine. Stroking him, she lowered her tongue to collect the bead of arousal that leaked over his thick head, causing him to squeeze where he was gripping her ass, his hips bucking up to try and press into the warmth of her mouth. “Your dick is so fucking pretty, baby. Could have you in my mouth all day long.”
“Shit,” he groaned, pulling his mouth away from her to voice his plea. “Suck it, baby. Please.”
Dylan could feel herself weep onto his tongue at the desperation in his voice, a wanton moan slipping from her lips as she eagerly obeyed, taking him into her mouth.
Frankie groaned, his eyes fluttering closed as she worked her way deeper and deeper down his thick length until she was gagging on it and stroking what her mouth couldn’t reach. While some men might have been content to sit there and relish in the pleasure, her skill only made Frankie try even harder to bring her to the same heights she was bringing him, and judging by the way her thighs were shaking around his head it seemed as though his efforts were paying off.
Pulling off of him with a pop just to stroke his slick cock in her hand, Dylan’s hips started to grind down on their own accord, chasing the high that was right there.
“Frankie, baby,” she whined. “I’m so fucking close, don’t stop.”
“Me too,” he panted in between sucks to her clit.
Dylan lowered her lips back to his cock, sucking and stroking in tandem just to hear him whine beneath her.
“Baby—” he warned, cutting himself off by bringing his tongue back to her. Dylan felt her entire body tensing with her impending release and pulled off of him again with a whine.
“I’m gonna fucking cum,” she moaned, stroking him in her palm, the slick squelch of her palm against his thick shaft filling the room. Frankie’s toes started to curl and Dylan’s thighs attempted to clamp shut as they both reached their highs at the same time, trying to remain as quiet as possible. “Fuck, Frankie.”
She watched as his release poured over the head of his cock and onto her fist while she continued to pump him, her mouth watering at the sight. Lifting herself off of him and flipping herself around to face him, she lined him up with her entrance and surprised him by sinking down to his base and keeping him there while she licked her hand clean.
“Jesus fucking Christ,” he panted, keeping his eyes locked on hers as she took each finger into her mouth and sucked off his release with a sinful smile, his cock throbbing inside of her as her walls twitched around him. “I think you just killed me.”
Dylan smiled, sated and completely relaxed as she leaned forward to lay her head against his chest while he drew lines up and down her back.
“You took the whole happiest place on earth thing literally,” he joked, earning a rumble of laughter.
“Had to start our first trip together off right,” she mumbled against his skin as she pressed soft kisses to his chest. “Do you think we were too loud?”
“Nah,” he said, breathing in a sharp breath as she lifted herself off of him and climbed off the bed. He watched her walk away to the en-suite, admiring the jiggle of her backside for a second before he was standing up and joining her in the bathroom.
“Quick shower then wake up the princess?” Dylan asked as she turned the water on, Frankie’s arms hugged her waist from behind while he nodded.
After the couple had showered off their romp, they woke Rina up and got her dressed in her first costume of the trip: a Belle dress with a matching tiara that her grandmother had bought for her just a few months before her passing. Frankie was choked up over the sentimental meaning of it, keeping his daughter in his arms or on his lap as they rode the Monorail from the hotel to the Magic Kingdom park.
Dylan couldn’t help but fill her camera roll with pictures of them smiling and laughing together or tender moments when Frankie couldn’t help but to kiss his daughter’s temple and squeeze her tight. Rina, oblivious to her father’s emotional state, eventually started to groan at his affection, and Frankie being the understanding man he was begrudgingly agreed to give her some space, letting her sit in her own seat to watch the passing sights while he leaned his head on Dylan’s shoulder with a childlike pout.
“My baby’s growing up,” he said, earning a coo and Dylan’s arms wrapped around him to console him. “She doesn’t want me to be all mushy anymore.”
“She’s just excited,” she reassured, kissing his forehead. “I’m sure tonight she’ll be climbing into bed to snuggle with you.”
“We’ll see,” he said, still frowning as he sat upright and turned to his daughter, her face alight at the world around her. “She’s just too cute. How am I supposed to not want to squish her little face?”
Dylan laughed and reached to hold his hand, her thumb rubbing gentle strokes against his skin. “She looks so happy.”
“I know,” he smiled, turning to his girlfriend. “I’m happy too. Being here with the two of you is the best vacation I could ask for, even if our wallets are going to be aching after this weekend.”
“I love you,” she cooed, leaning over to press a chaste kiss to his lips. “I’m more than happy to drain my bank account to be here with my favorite people in the world.”
After a long day of riding rides and staying late enough at the park to watch the fireworks, Dylan and Frankie found themselves slugging back to the hotel with Rina fast asleep in Dylan’s arms, her head nestled on her shoulder.
“I could take her,” Frankie offered as they walked through the lobby to the elevator. “I know she gets heavy when she sleeps.”
“No, I don’t wanna wake her up,” she said, giving him a sleepy but sincere smile. “She looks so peaceful.”
“She’s gonna sleep like a rock tonight,” he said, pressing the button to the elevator with the hand that wasn’t carrying the bag full of Rina’s new stuffed animals. “I don’t know about you but I’m fucking exhausted, baby.”
“I am too,” she yawned. “Maybe we can save our plans for the morning?”
“Or the middle of the night,” he winked.
“That works too,” she chuckled and leaned back against the wall of the elevator while Frankie’s phone chimed in his pocket. She watched him pull it out, read the message, and frown at whatever it said, piquing her concern. “What’s wrong?”
“Santi…texting me some bullshit about wasting money,” he sighed, locking his phone and stuffing it back into his pocket before letting his head fall back against the wall. “He thinks he’s my fucking dad.”
“Yeah, I don’t really know why he’s so concerned about what you’re doing with your life and your money and your family,” she said, trying to keep her voice soft so as to not disturb the sleeping angel in her arms.
“He just thinks I owe him what he deems success because he was there for me during the hard times,” he said. “But I’m not the same guy I was even a year ago, you know? I…have new dreams and plans and—I just wish he’d give me some fucking credit. I may not be where he wants me to be, but I’m doing okay.”
“And it’s not like he’s making six figures,” she added. “He manages a fucking body shop.”
Frankie let out a breath of a chuckle and nodded. “Don’t say that to him, you’ll bruise his ego.”
“Maybe it needs some bruising,” she shrugged. “I just don’t like that he’s on your ass like this when you’re doing fine. You pay all your bills, you take care of your daughter, who fucking cares if you take a little trip after the year you’ve had?”
Frankie gave her an adoring frown as the elevator reached their floor, wrapping his arm around her waist.
“I’m so glad you came into my life, Dylan,” he said, pressing his lips to her head. “Into our life.”
“I love being in your life. Both of you guys. I…it feels like I won the most insane and best prize in the world here,” she said, leaning against the doorframe of their room while Frankie unlocked it with a grin.
“We’re both winners,” he smiled, meeting her eyes. “I love you, Dylan.”
“I love you, Frankie.”

Well, I think the situation around the perception of iranian history and greek history in fandom is quite similar.
Let's be honest, for most people there is only Ancient Greece (by which they mean the history of the classical greek city-states + hellenistic period + roman period, we are not particularly touching on the dark ages and bronze age Mycenaean Greece, not to mention earlier times), which they - following the manga/anime canon - separate from modern Greece. And there is modern Greece, which, in general, began its independent existence in the first half of the nineteenth century, when a small piece of territory in the southern Balkans gained independence and was called “Hellas”. At best, they have ottoman rule as a kind of “preparatory period” when the canonical Iraklis grew up, did not understand anything and did not really decide anything. And at the same time, modern Greece is the son of Ancient Greece, who loves to be nostalgic about his cool mother, who did something great there more than two thousand years ago. Cool, yeah.
Likewise, for most people there is "ancient Persia" (before the conquest of the Islamic Caliphate in the 7th and 8th centuries AD) and "modern Iran", which they count from the Islamization of the Iranian plateau. In the manga canon, we have a character called "Persia", who people unthinkingly identify with the Achaemenid state, the Parthian Arsacid state, and the Sassanid state. In fanon, he (“Persia”) actively interacts (at war) with Rome, interacts with China and India in much rarer cases, and the mangaka also mentioned that he has descendants, one of which is “modern” Iran, yes. And, of course, there is an incredible amount of time devoted to the Achaemenid period (but not the greco-persian Wars, which shocked me when researching the fandom). Cool, yeah.
But you know what's surprising? None of this makes any sense.
If we take Greece... no, we take greek culture, we will understand that it has continuously developed, without gaps, from the time of the classical polis until the present moment, BUT, if you really want to find a watershed, then this is late antiquity. Why? Because in late antiquity, the pagan hellenes, living in their separate city-states as citizens, became christian rhomeans, subjects of the vast Eastern Roman Empire (which in fact is still perceived as a Republic). The roman "imperial" identity replaced the greek polis identity - although the greek language still dominated in the East, especially after the Avar conquest of the Balkans, when the Empire lost the latin-speaking provinces. The perception of “hellenic” identity was very complex, it experienced a revival, especially in the 13th century, when the roman/latin identity began to be associated with the germans/italians/franks, enemies of the Eastern Empire, but this is if we are talking about intellectuals - the people considered themselves rhomeans. And guess what? The conquest of Constantinople in 1453 did not change anything! There was no break or fracture! The Church of Constantinople continued to be the guardian of this identity even in the absence of christian imperial power! And the people who started the Greek Revolution in the 19th century did not strive to create a small national state, no, in their eyes ALL of Anatolia and the Balkans were the historical lands of the Eastern Roman Empire, which they considered their country. The fascination with ancient pagan Greece is something that was brought from the West, which despised “Byzantium”.
And if you look at Iran, the real boundary between "ancient" and "modern" history is the conquest of Alexander the Great. Because - this will amaze many - but until the second half of the 19th century in Iran itself they knew nothing about the ancient history of the country! The first historical event preserved in chronicles and art, say, the "Shahnameh" of Ferdowsi, is the conquest of Alexander, which has nothing to do with the real one (I will only say that Alexander is considered a descendant of the iranian royal dynasty there). In Iran, they knew almost nothing about the greco-persian wars, about the Seleucids, about the parthian Arsacids and the roman-parthian wars! The real history in Iranian perception began only with the Sassanids, who were at enmity with “Rum” - but, first of all, not with Western, decrepit Rome, but with Eastern Rome! It was “Byzantium” that was “Rome” for the Iranians and for the entire Middle East until the 19th century, while the Western “latins” were the “franks”. Moreover, I want to note that the complete forgetting of the history of the country before Alexander in Iran began even under the Sassanids - largely because ancient persian was a cuneiform language, and cuneiform was forgotten (as for the iranian epic, its oldest part is eastern iranian in origin, western iranian, persian, it becomes only from the time of Ardashir the First). But the arab conquest and adoption of islam did not have such consequences! And when the revival of iranian culture and the new persian language began in the 9th-10th centuries A.D., it was a revival, albeit rethought, of Sassanian identity.
In short, while it makes sense to separate Ancient Greece from "Byzantium", it makes no sense to separate "Byzantium" from modern Greece. And the history of modern Iran begins with the Sassanids, not Islamization.

side b: steve harrington
side a side a: eddie munson
side b
explanation post
FORGET THE FORMATTING!!! PLS BE QUIET!!! anyways into steve harrington. his playlist is SAUR bubblegum lesbian pop. and tbh i really tried to kind of blend new/old in side a with eddie and make it smth MAYBE he would listen to? but steve, i automatically pegged him as 80s pop and lesbian music like. you probably listen to bruce springsteen but in my heart u know who rina sawayama is. anyways yes steve harrington coping through partying and then falling in lurv.
YES he admits it as soon as it happens bc he's emotionally intelligent and he knows himself thank u for coming to my ted talk
“Perfect Places” Lorde; “Have another drink, get lost in us/this is how we get notorious” “Every night, I live and die/meet somebody, take ‘em home” YEAH…. steve harrington coping post season-2 and stancy break up by partying and drinking and sleeping around. like i see it…. i was there and it’s so. desperation to find peace and eventually settling for oblivion bc nothing is better than everything
“Heaven/Hell” CHVRCHES; this song is so steve harrington to me i can’t even describe…. like it’s so disillusionment with his former sense of self and what he used to attach importance to. and he feels like a fraud and also an imposter, surrounded by people who he’s outgrown. and somehow it also feels like no one has truly realized that vital shift. it’s SAUR “is it right if i’m a perfect actress/playing the princess in distress?” “is it alright if i save myself and/if i clean up my own mess” IDK. why is that so steve to me.
“Stand Back” Stevie Nicks; like LIKE this song is so everyone wants me except for you/you’re the only one i want. idk…. steve harrington this is so you to me. he is so pining he is so what if he is so i built our future in my head and now everything is crumbling down around me. you have changed me so deeply that i can never go back to the same person i was before i met you. and the world around me stays stagnant and stuck in time, with me out like a sore thumb. like i’m sobbing crying frothing at the mouth….
“Head Over Heels/Broken” Tears for Fears; a classic… a classic… but also like a little mashup moment to make it narratively appropriate in my head. also the applause at the end is giving the curtains are down the performance is over… king steve lays down his crown… AM I INSANE IN THIS MOMENT…
“Honey Understand” Noso; to me this is a little bit of a moment like if i’m misinterpreting this song wrong SO embarrassing. but literally?? i think it’s so steve… bc it’s like in any break up it’s always going to be him at fault because he’s the ladies man and the popular jerk. he’s always going to be made out to be a villain in certain people’s eyes. like what am i even saying but you get it right… and it’s like how can i even keep fighting when i’m already crumbling apart. but also you’ll never know bc i’ll never let anyone know how bad it is … i’m unwell
“Deliverance” CHVRCHES; i think this is actually about religion (maybe?) but i’m thinking of it as more of a general framework or life view that steve held before the upside down. he’s had to rethink what’s important and what matters like fr…. and now that he’s spending more time with eddie and realizing things about… naur it’s like this moment is his watershed moment and he’s being set free of smth like… his king steve persona?? his guilt over barb?? any other head canon ??? or maybe it’s like his fucked up coping viewed as something that’s bringing him back to his “normal” self… like back 2 parties back 2 alcoholism
“Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight” ABBA; like YEAH of course this song is on here. and it’s so hello steve harrington are you on the prowl are you looking for something so you can actually feel something
“Take Me Home Tonight” Eddie Money; pretty self explanatory like… steve harrington you are turning to sex to distract yourself and chasing the way you felt before. also in comparison to gimme gimme gimme, this is a more self aware reflection like. post nut clarity. but also in my head this is steve harrington meeting with eddie munson s2 and making the impulsive decision to follow him literally anywhere, kick starting everything that follows.
“Yours” Now, Now; attraction bantering cockiness like it’s all there like it’s everything… it’s everything….
“Untouched” The Veronicas, I DON’T CARE IF IT DOESN’T FIT … this song is so important to me and it’s saur…. steve harrington you are getting attached steve harrington you are falling in love. to be clear this is before they get together or do anything like…. this is the pining this is the wanting
“Don’t You Want Me” The Human League; so basically added for vibes, didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics and meaning. IT’S JUST SO …. 80s pop and 80s pop is so steve. HOWEVER i feel like i can use this as my little soap box bc “you were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar… turned you int someone new/now five years later on, you’ve got the world at your feet” is saur nancy and “the five years we have had have been such good at times, I still love you/ but now, i think it’s time i lived my life on my own” is SAUR steve. like nancy wheeler in s4 reflecting on steve’s changes and the fandom’s reflection of pushing this narrative that nancy was the main reason and the greatest influence on steve’s change. my pet peeve…. let’s not forget the trauma he went through that could have shook his entire worldview. also ??? he’s a big boy with his own thoughts let him have a little ponder. i would add more but i’m not capable of totally explaining this at all JUST !!! ugh but yeah steve harrington you are attracted to eddie munson song
“Forever Tonight” Kelechi; “love me like there’s no tomorrow/kiss me like we’re out of time” DO I EVEN NEED TO SAY ANYTHING??? I AM IN REAL PAIN!!!
“I Was Made For Lovin’ You” KISS; KEYSTONE SONG. yes they fucked yes they fucked. and OKAY idc if it’s cheesy YOU try to fit in a semi-metal song into your 80s/lesbian pop playlist
“Lay All Your Love On Me” ABBA; OMG …. it is so necessary. that is all. LIKE SO NEEDED.
“Hungry Eyes” Eric Carmen; it’s literally from dirty dancing like what else can i say… steve harrington is having his little romcom moment. honestly he’s practically one of the brat pack. he’s LIVING it he’s living it
“Keep on Loving You” REO Speedwagon; okay they were killing on anniversaries i just know it. like this is so my parent’s wedding. it’s so puffed sleeve dresses and slow dancing at prom and steve is a ROMANTIC. steve is a ROMANTIC in a small midwest town like. where was his prom king moment
“Seven Wonders” Fleetwood Mac; lowkey a filler song but yes can anything compare to the beauty of this moment something very romantic. this is on the mixtape for sure
“(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” Blue Oyster Cult; ONCE AGAIN I KNOW IT DOESNT FIT THAT WELL… but this is a keystone song… a metal song forcefully inserted into the playlist. this is supposed to mark the point where steve falls in love love. but what i got from the song is basically like. we’re going to die anyways let’s just fall in love. i’m sure that’s way simplistic but vibe…
“Horses” Maggie Rogers; sorry I’m…. gay….? and it’s like it’s like it’s like i wanna be free i wanna be free with you do you wanna be free with me. in a more romantic and AHHHH way but like how do i even begin to try and describe how this song makes me feel like… unreal. but it’s also like a little stop for steve to doubt and think about what he’s feeling and deciding to do ??? idk where i was going with that. but yes my little interlude for pondering
“Black Butterflies and Deja Vu (Acoustic)” The Maine; keystone song keystone song. when steve admits he is in lurv of course. chose the acoustic version bc i feel like it fits better and also i think it’s more of a soft realization for steve rather than the absolute car wreck that is eddie. please understand my thoughts immediately

Zakkura Week 2024 Day 6: Soulmates
Zack remembers the day that his left eye turned blue.
It is one of his earliest memories. One of those watershed moments in a family’s oral history that becomes a waypoint from which other stories begin.
It’s always, “Oh yeah, he had his eye, so it must have been the summer of ‘87...” or “No, no, Zack was just a baby then. You’re getting things mixed up.”
By birth, he had brown eyes. Two the same, a middle shade between chestnut and mahogany.
His parent’s eyes mostly matched. His mom’s have a touch of hazel in the middle, and his dad’s are rimmed with gray. You could look at them in passing and never really notice that they’re soulmates.
“My goodness, so close in age!” His mother had gushed, ruffling his hair as she showed him his new appearance on the back of a spoon. He had leaned close, too young to comprehend.
It was beautiful, like the color of the sky.
“And not staying around our little village, I’d wager,” his father had said, stirring his coffee by the kitchen window. “Color like that, he’ll be an adventurous one for sure.”

Lesson 2: We're All Punk Here
CLASS IS IN SESSION.
This is my third time typing this damn lesson, so you'll excuse me if I'm a little short.
The image above was just filler for a `zine, but it became emblematic of a movement. The three chords and the truth vibe, the go out and do something call to action. This is a fifteen word manifesto, and it helped to codify what it meant to be a punk. The subculture has deep roots - ridiculously deep - but unlike some, it at least has a pretty clear lineage. Let's delve in.
youtube
If this glorious bastard looks familiar, it's because his guitar is my icon. Woody Guthrie was a protest singer back in the day, and in this berk's opinion, the great-great-granddaddy of the punk movement. Let's give it a look.
-Did shit? Yes, he would go from farm to farm trying to get the migrant workers to unionize.
-Stripped down instrumentation? Can't get any simpler than one man and his guitar.
-Sang in support of the common man, damning the powers what be? Just listen to the lyrics. Or the words on his guitar - THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS.
Folk was integral to the creation of punk - folk singer Dave Van Ronk famously joined in at Stonewall, not because he knew what was going on or was queer, but because he saw people fighting cops and thought yeah, rock on, let's do this. It was joined by the cynicism of the beat movement. The surrealism of Burroughs, and (unfortunately) the pretentious prose experiments of Kerouac helped to grease the wheels for what was to come. And from here, we have a very clear lineage, particularly in the UK punk scene. From folk and the beats, we got the MODS.
youtube
Short for Modernists, not Moderates, the mods were jazz-loving bastards that were known for taking amphetamines and dancing all night, driving around in souped up Vespas with entirely too many mirrors, getting into fights with rockers, and generally being the glorious asshole follow-ups to the beats. The thing is, they also got popular. Real fuckin' popular. And this created a problem. By the mid sixties, the mods had split in two. The larger part of the mods went mainstream, becoming what the others decried as "soft mods" or "peacock mods", while the remainder became "hard mods". These sods were working class folk, blue collar and unpretentious and kickass, and they found kindred spirits in the Jamaican Rude Boy subculture... and a music they called ska.
youtube
And from these "hard mods", we got... skinheads.
Yeah, skinheads. And before you say it, no, these weren't the racist neo-nazi fucks that we delight in introducing to the business end of a pipe wrench. That division came much later. These skinheads were basically just proto-punks, enraged at the world, but embracing music that spoke of unity and togetherness.
The fuel for the glorious, angry bonfire that was punk was there in the seventies, but it needed a spark. While 76 was widely considered Year Zero for the punk movement, it was 77 that gave us the watershed moment - the moment that punk erupted into public consciousness. It gave us the Sex Pistols, and "God Save the Queen".
youtube
Not too shabby for a band that picked a bassist based entirely on how he looked, right?
Now, I'm not going to say that the Sex Pistols were a great group. Musically they were middling, but the sheer impact they made cannot be understated. They outright called the UK a fascist regime in the second line of their first single, released the week of the Queen's diamond jubilee. "God Save the Queen" was banned from airplay in the UK, and is to this day one of the most banned records of all time.
This attention, and stellar releases from fellow UK punk band The Clash, helped to galvanize the scene. As "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols" hit #1 on the charts, it was obvious that the punk scene was here to stay.
youtube
In the US, the scene started with a bar called CBGB, and an extended tenure of two bands - Television and The Ramones, with the latter band becoming sort of the prototype of the American punk band, focused on stripped down rock numbers, and a slightly goofier feel. This berk will argue that the Ramones were never truly punk - they were punk adjacent at a time when Punk was an upcoming genre, Johnny Ramone being a hardcore republican - but that's an argument for another time.
You see, with those bands making the first ripples, other bands soon impacted that turned it into a wave. `77 was the start of the Second Wave of Punk, the first years that punk could be considered a unified genre instead of a couple of bands doing their own thing that sort of fell into the same groove. The Misfits, Black Flag, the Police...
I could follow this rabbit hole all day. By `79 the genre was splintering, branching out into a dozen disparate subgenres, which are still branching out to this day. But instead of exploring every single one - which would be better served as another group of lessons another day - I'll leave you with the track of the week. The Badass Creed for the punk movement. The song that took a stand against the right wing trying to adopt punk in the 80's. The song that set the stage for Hobie Brown, and which arguably serves as the backbone to the punk ethos today... here's the Dead Kennedys, "Nazi Punks Fuck Off".
youtube
`NUFF SAID.
CLASS DISMISSED.
And next time, we're going to be looking at a genre which producer Rick Rubin could only process as "black punk rock" when he first heard it... I said a hip-hop, the hippie, the hippie to the hip, hip-hop and you don't stop the rockin' to the bang-bang boogie, say up jump the boogie to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat…

I'm also a queer black adult. There's a difference between spending money for sources of comfort vs needlessly spending stuff to flex status in very childish ways. We definitely see that as we boycott all these companies. Would the latest iPhone be nice? I guess, but it ain't that impressive to support Congo's genocide. Is that Stanley cup cool? Honestly not really, and it definitely ain't worth supporting another genocide for. Even ofmd, it really wasn't that important for queer media or even black queer media, which a lot of Black shows were also canceled at the same time. No one talks about how important black rep is here though. Despite this, however, you are not seeing black people gather funds for a billboard for a show unless we talking about blm. Because that's more important than getting a show back on the air as a flex. So we as adults can recognize the bizarre message we see when people are out here begging for help, and dismissed as scammers. But the moment a donation post for a billboard gets put up to get a show back to production, it meets its up almost instantaneously. As an adult I literally study these kinds of phenomenons in our capitalist society. I'm not sending this message to come at you because you are not the only one who does this, and I certainly am forced to partake in capitalism. But I do want to share that these are the "adult" conversations people are going to have and question. For as many "we can support both ofmd and Palenstine" I read here, I see the same bloggers attacking Palestinians and Black people for rightfully being upset that they certainly do not "do both" with the same amount of passion
Thing is? I don't disagree with almost anything you said, and the frustration is real. The disparities are real. I've been on the other side of that and needed support and seen whose fundraisers met their goals quicker than mine did. All of that is real and under ideal circumstances, yeah, the billboard people could have handled all this better.
I think the differences in where I come at all this from is that:
I watched the live feed of the billboard for a minute, and people put all kinds of less-than-important shit on it. So when I see people talking about how wrong the billboard is I just remember the like, graduation-announcement-level other stuff that was on it for the same price. I'm not saying the idea still didn't rub me wrong but I am saying that put it into perspective for me at least.
This show has changed lives, which may sound silly, but that's art sometimes. There are people whose lives are better and bigger and more authentic than ever before because of this weird mix of kindness and space to be queer that isn't like anything I've ever seen before. I understand that not everyone had such an impactful experience with it but I've found that incredibly moving and valuable and worth the fight for a 3rd season.
More than anything else, I value the efforts to get the show renewed because it feels like a watershed moment in the TV and streaming industries, and things will only get worse from here. I'm aware of all the Black shows that got canceled before OFMD did but a lot of the time people only care when something comes for their shows, and now we've got a a bunch of agitated white gays (who to be clear to everyone except the asker, are NOT the show's sole audience so please stop talking about it that way) who we can and should be pushing to include Rap Sh!t and Love Life etc. when talking about all this. Because it does represent a trend that's coming for everybody, it just started with going after POC and queers first. FWIW I actually did make a post the other day aimed at OFMD people to try to get them talking about the Black shows that were canceled first. (I deleted the original post because my notifications were killing me but reblogs of it should still be floating around out there)
I'm not out here trying to say that people's perfectly understandable frustrations are invalid, it just has felt inconsistent the way a lot of (almost entirely white) self-styled leftists have been coming after OFMD as if it's uniquely horrible.
When BIPOC object to the disparities Asker pointed out, I lift that up and value it. There are things I might say in other forms of this conversation that I would have with other BIPOC away from prying eyes that might surprise you. But right now there's too much noise in this conversation from people who don't actually give a fuck about any of their talking points, they just see an opportunity to dunk on a cringe fandom or they're operating with incomplete/incorrect information about things or in the least surprising/most transparent move of all, they're projecting a bunch of inaccurate shit onto Taika and using it to criticize him in as pattern that's familiar and obvious to every POC watching it happen. That's not what I think you're doing or anything Asker, but it's important context for the conversation we could/should be having and something that keeps getting left out of the conversation.

Dallas Liu The Laterals Interview (June 2024 Issue)
Dallas Liu is many things, fashionisto, hooper, martial artist, foodie, but what he is not - is just an actor. He is more than. To me, this is a fact. It is clear the craft of acting pulsates through his very being and one of the reasons why I can't wait to collaborate with him myself. Because I too am not just a director. I too inject my life and soul into everything I do. The first time I met Dallas was by chance at a dinner with friends in the dingy wooden booths of underground Bourdain favorite, Dan Sung Sa. We spent a couple of hours circling our lives and his recent journey portraying Zuko and dancing around the idea of collaboration. As we talked I could not believe how I cosmically crossed paths with this talent. My mind was unable to grasp how someone so young was so thoughtful about life and their craft.
After getting to know Dallas more; it's obvious why. He draws from a deep human connection and willingness to expose his inner self through his work. Dallas is a pure artist, a trailblazer and he will elevate the artistic merit of not only Asian American actors but the next generation of all cinematic faces to somewhere beyond. He has stepped into and with the renewal of Avatar: The Last Airbender for another season has successfully navigated a huge cinematic universe with his portrayal of Zuko where pressure and critical audiences demand exactitude but none of that scares Dallas. And in these moments he has found another level of love and enlightenment in the path of his life. Dallas's talent cannot be denied. He is a one of one. He is an artist. He is not just an actor. And so we sat down for a chat in LA to hear more from the budding star as he donned a Teddy Boy inspired look to mirror his own watershed moment.
JON JON AUGUSTAVO - How's the reception of the show been?
DALLAS LIU - Honestly, I've been staying off the internet.
JON JON - Good, good. (Laughs)
DALLAS - I have been. But from what my family has been telling me, it's a mixed bag. Obviously you're gonna have the purists who wanna see a scene for scene, line for line remake. And then you're gonna have those who will nitpick at any small subtle mistake. But then you have people who've just opened their heart to going on the journey all over again, even with differences. And then we have people who have never seen the show, who love the concept of the Avatar world and the elements bending and who have just fully immersed themselves in like the lore of the world that we live in.
JON JON - What would you say through production and pre-production you were nervous about? How people were gonna perceive it or did you have certain expectations?
DALLAS - Yeah I was definitely nervous (laughs). I'm a fan of the OG series too. So some of these changes did have me worried but luckily we had such a tight relationship with our writers, showrunners, and producers. When they did explain these changes and why they had to do them, it all sort of made sense right.
JON JON - Yeah, I mean, I think that's better for character development and audiences and people are hella smart and we understand how stories work so those little things help.
DALLAS - So episode six with masks, I didn't know that, we would dive into the backstory of Zuko's character and they would connect the 41st division with the crew that he's currently with right now. I thought that was brilliant writing done by Emily and Hunter. And then obviously that also made me nervous because my first time as a lead on the series, my creative input will not hold a lot of weight. If I wanna say something and think something different, no matter how much I love the character, you know, you got a big studio behind us, and then other creatives who have been working on the show for four years.
JON JON - So being a lead and all that, how was that in comparison to your prior experiences on other shows and other shorts and all that-your previous career before this like how do you compare it?
DALLAS - I think I just felt the responsibility in the weight that I carried.
JON JON - Mm hmm.
DALLAS - I think naturally I took this role specifically a lot more seriously as well in the time and energy that went into it. And like I said earlier, even though my creative input didn't hold a lot of weight with them, I was constantly having ideas that I wanted to discuss and sit down with everyone behind the screen just to make this as best as I could. I think ideas constantly flowing, whether it was line deliveries or maybe the way a character would say this line, but it was all a collaborative team effort, which was really cool. So in that way the way the story went for my character didn't solely rely on me, but at the end of the day, I did understand that my face was the one representing an iconic character and what Dante Basco had sort of set the tone for already.
JON JON - The Filipino legend.
DALLAS - Yeah, dude.
JON JON - Yeah, that is a heavy weight to bring the real life version of this gigantic franchise together.
DALLAS - Big shoes to fill, big shoes to fill. And at some point I realized, I don't even necessarily have to fill those shoes either. I could, he told me himself and I think I just sort of let the pressure get to me, but this was something for me to create on my own. I could take inspiration from him and Dev Patel, but at the end of the day, this was my Zuko and how I was going to portray him to all the audience and the viewers.
JON JON - So what do you think you like? Do you think it's gonna be more difficult or just different to start to be in more films and TV shows that are probably more grounded?
DALLAS - My heart truly lies in those really grounded, textured films. I mean, the last movie I just watched in theaters was The Iron Claw.
JON JON - Oh yeah, there you go.
DALLAS - With Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White, and...
JON JON - Harris Dickinson.
DALLAS - Yeah, Harris Dickinson.
JON JON - I wanna get that guy in our film, I'm trying.
DALLAS - That guy, yeah. You saw him in Triangle of Sadness?
JON JON - He's a beast.
DALLAS - He's a beast, man. But yeah, the subtleties of their performances, honestly are what make me excited for hopefully future seasons. Zuko in those future seasons we've done in the animated series, you see, like not a lack of desperation, but he's growing, he's learning, so he's calmed down. And I think that's just going to be so much fun to portray, if I get the chance. And yeah, it's in films.
JON JON - As far as the show, any favorite moments — whether it's in the show or just the production of it?
DALLAS - I think it was the moment that I met Ken Leung, who plays Commander Zhao. When I tell you the first time I met him and we did our scenes together, I figured out what kind of actor I wanted to be. And especially if you rewatch his performances, like man, that dude is busy. He is busy on screen all the time. And it's an interesting take on the character because it's not what someone would normally go for. My first time reading scenes with him was in this random conference room of a hotel. And we had three scenes to read with him, it was with me, Paul and Ken. And this dude walked in with just his cell phone and his wallet and had all of the scenes memorized. Like a G, like a G. And he just was like, all right, which one are we doing? The one on page 59, oh, no problem. And then he doesn't even need a second to sort of get into character. I mean, Ken was like, honestly (laughs), really intimidating at the very start. I guess seeing the nuance of his character in real life, it took me out of Zuko. I was so blown away. Oh my god I can't believe I'm experiencing this with my own eyes.
JON JON - Right.
DALLAS - And so naturally I wanted to make sure that all of my scenes with him were heavy hitters. And so l got to work with him. I was like, 'hey, man, after dinner today, do you mind if we just run some scenes?' He's like 'yeah, I got it memorized.' I was like (laughs), 'yeah, of course you do. Of course you do, bro.'
JON JON - (Laughs) Of course you do. That's fire. So you're saying it made you realize what kind of actor you want to be. Well, what kind of actor do you want to be?
DALLAS - I want to be an actor that doesn't make you think about the actor's name when you're on screen. You know, when I watched Ken, you're seeing Commander Zhao and not Ken Leung. My biggest example of this is Christoph Waltz.
JON JON - Oh yeah. You see him in all of his films and he's this terrifying villain and you're like, Oh my gosh, I know that guy from this, this, and this. And honestly, a lot of Willem Dafoe's performances.
JON JON - Willem Dafoe's a legend.
DALLAS - Each character, though you recognize his face, he's the character always. Always. And I think those performances are what make me strive to be a better artist. It's like how can I fully transform myself and become this character so fully that If someone were to watch the movie who doesn't know me that they would be stoked on it.
JON JON - They believe it.
DALLAS - Yeah.
JON JON - You want people to believe it, which I already do. I remember when we did our table read, sorry to the other guys but you were by far the best.
DALLAS - (Laughs) oh man stop.
JON JON - Like this guy's got little physical things you were doing. I remember I was thinking, oh boy, he's in.
DALLAS - That's all stuff that I learned from Ken, man.
JON JON - Well, that's what I was saying as you were saying, I feel like you picked it up from him because I remember you came in and you had the role and I was like whoa. he is on. It's true though. I think that's a good precedent in someone to study. I mean, I think those are the things that are gonna make you greater than you already are. So I think it's really interesting that you're already thinking about how you wanna be as an actor. And not just learning how to act, but how do you wanna be?
DALLAS - Yeah, I think it's important. Everyone's gonna have their own methods, their own techniques into figuring that out. It's all extremely personal because we all are artists at the end of the day. So formulas will be mixed up in different ways to achieve a similar product. Obviously, I got to work on this show, but I'm certainly still figuring things out. And so I'm excited to explore more.
JON JON - What's most difficult and what are you afraid of in your career going forward? I would say, for example, I'm just nervous about making a movie. Like it stresses me out. You have to put that out there. That's like your thing that says everything about you. What's that for you?
DALLAS - I guess as an actor I think what I'm scared of most is how different aspects of a movie will either make it or break it. Although this is a team effort in making a movie, I'm so scared that I'm going to be the reason holding people back. Not that I won't, I don't try, but that's scary to think that a show could have been successful if maybe this take was chosen, a different take was chosen, or maybe a different line and delivery that I had in mind when shooting it would have maybe worked better. It's all about the what ifs, I think is what scares me about making television or films because it's online permanently especially now.
JON JON - Yeah.
DALLAS - It's permanent man. It's still hard to even open up Netflix and see like my big bald...
JON JON - (Laughs)
DALLAS - Head... right dead center.
JON JON - Right.
DALLAS - Yup bro, yup bro. Yup that's me, l'm right there forever now.
JON JON - But hopefully I think it sounds to me and I in knowing you, I don't think you should be that worried. I think you're already thinking the right way and taking it seriously and like I said, just the way you prepared for a table read. I just think I don't have a lot to be fair, but you should, I think you always, like as you get older, you always have to carry a nervousness and a weight because I think that means it matters to you.
DALLAS - Oh, yeah.
JON JON - So as long as you have maintained that, you'll be fine, bro. Also, you're really good (laughs). So you're good, but it'll be interesting as you progress your career and you go from this and what the things you start to make that develop your body of work and who you are as a person and actor.
DALLAS - Yeah, I'm already excited to explore different genres. I mean, don't get me wrong I love this action stuff, you know, the dramatic action, but an adventure. But you know, you and I have talked about trying to just have a good time making stuff that feels like the real world that we live in right now.
JON JON - Right. Yeah, man. I mean, I think that's what we're trying to do. And I think that you'll be good. And I think what's cool is you are trying to trail blaze in a way and do something different and breakthrough in a world where it's hard for folks that look like you and I to take these steps and change perception. But I think you are and I think that's really special.
DALLAS - Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I think as long as we show our respects and give thanks to our predecessors, those who've paved the way for us, It's all love. I know that many Asians can be quite competitive amongst each other because it's in our nature. But everything that I've been receiving from especially my generation has been love and I think that's going to be something major for our community moving forward.
JON JON - And I think what's exciting about even us working together is we're just gonna make something where people look like you and me, but it's not just about our entire ethnicity and all that, it's just about people. And I think that's what's important about what we can make next.
DALLAS - Yeah.
JON JON - And I mean, not just what we're doing together, but you're just a guy in a show. It has nothing to do with the fact that you're Asian.
DALLAS - Yeah, like the Avatar world is so sick because you've got all of these faces of color with not only Asians, but especially indigenous actors and actresses. But it doesn't matter if you're Asian or indigenous when you watch the show because everybody's gonna be able to relate to this story. Everyone's gonna be able to love it together and then bond over it. I think honestly, the most relatable character for me in the show is Sokka, who's played by lan Ousley. He's the voice of the audience, right? He's the one without powers. He's the one watching all of this and being like what, where am I? And he's someone that sort of masks his insecurities with humor, which many of us do naturally.
JON JON - Right.
DALLAS - I mean, that's my best friend, he does a great job portraying it. But like that character alone is someone that many people will probably be able to relate to when watching the series.
JON JON - Yeah, I think it's really cool that you're talking about a different character and not your character. I think that's very grounded of you to be not just solely talking about your journey but you're actually looking at the characters around you as people.
DALLAS - Of course, of course. I mean, everyone's character is what makes this show so fun to watch.
JON JON - I got one minute and 20 seconds. All right. What else could I ask you? I don't know. What are you excited for, man? What's Dallas Liu excited for in life?
DALLAS - What am I excited for in life? I'm excited to work with Jon Jon Augustavo, obviously.
JON JON - Obviously.
DALLAS - Yeah (laughs). I'm excited to see what the future has in store for me. Other than season two and season three, the path is very open in terms of the opportunities available. But as far as what the future has in store for me, I am hoping for is certainly film. I want to, you know, I love the format of films. I love being able to sit in a movie theater and watch a movie, whether it's alone or with friends. And I think as an artist, not only do you want people to be able to sit in a movie theater, you want people to accept your art for what it is but you want to make your family proud dog. (TL)

Joel somehow getting punched in the face?
(I am late on Punch Joel April)
"So supposedly," Graham Norton smirks from his spot in his chair. "Supposedly you used to punch people you shouldn't punch."
"Oh, this was a very, very long time ago," Lenny admits with a chuckle, placing a hand over his mouth. "I was young, and very, very stupid."
"But it's a great story, right?" Graham asks.
"Well...one of them is funny, and the other is not so much," Lenny explains as he sits back on the couch. "The funny one is basically some schmo in a bar, mouthing off and hating Jews. I was a little drunk, so I went over to pick a fight. And he...threw me through a plate glass window."
The audience laughs at that, and Graham grins, "So it was a trip to hospital?"
"Eh. I don't remember. Maybe."
"What was the other one?"
Lenny sighs heavily. "So...you know, Midge is my second wife. She's the best. She's great. Her ex-husband is...not great. He's better than he used to be now that we're all old fogies, but back when we were all young and full of piss and vinegar and crap, he was - well for lack of a word i can get past the censors, he was an asshole."
"Lenny, we're past the watershed, you can call him a shithead," Graham assures him.
"Really?" Lenny lights up. "He was a huge shithead!" he crows loudly, making the audience laugh louder.
"So you punched him?" Edris Elba asks from next to him.
"Once," Lenny admits. "Only once in all the years we've known each other. And it was the first time we met."
The audience laughs in surprise at that.
Lenny sighs heavily. "So Joel - his name is Joel - back in the day, owned a nightclub in Chinatown. And when it seemed like Midge and I were getting serious, she took me to meet him during the day at the club. You know, and at first, when we're introduced, he's the nicest guy. Tellin' me how big an honor it is to meet me, how he hopes I'll consider doing sets at his club."
"And then Midge drops the bomb?" Graham guesses.
"Yep," Lenny nods. "She says, 'So Lenny and I have been seeing each other for a little while, and it's getting serious, and I figured you two should formally meet.'"
"How'd that go over?" Dame Maggie Smith asks.
Lenny chuckles, making the audience laugh, and he takes a moment to shake his head.
"Joel looks at me. Turns and stares at Midge. Looks back at me. And then he goes 'so that's how you make it in comedy.'"
The audience gasps and boos.
"That is- that's quite the statement to say to anyone, let alone someone you used to be married to," David Tennant comments from further down the couch, clearly horrified.
"It really was," Lenny agrees. "Joel turns around in that way that do for dramatic affect when they're upset? And I'm standing there, and my mind is fu- it's racing. And I think to myself, 'who the hell does this guy think he is? Midge is the funniest person I know. How dare he?' And my caveman brain just takes over, and suddenly I'm tapping him on the shoulder, and he turns around, and I pop him right in the nose."
"Good," Maggie snaps firmly. "He earned that."
"Did you break his nose?" Idris asks.
"Surprisingly yes," Lenny confirms.
"I don't usually condone violence, m'self," David chimes in again. "But in this case, he really did deserve that."
"Was Midge angry?" Graham asks.
"She probably could have been angrier, all things considered," Lenny smirks behind his hand. "And I shouldn't have done it, but it was such a low blow."
"Truly, what a rotten thing to say," Maggie grouses.
"Yeah, he was a little shit back then," Lenny agrees. "Now he spends most of his time complaining from an armchair."
"And you produced a movie!" Graham cries happily. "That a nice bit of karma."
"And a great plug," Lenny adds with a chuckle.

Hi Jen,
I’m not sure if you will get the chance to respond to this, or have any advice, but I really admire you and your blog, and I’m hoping that this is alright to vent about.
I’m a young femme (21), and figuring out that I was femme was an absolute watershed moment in my entire understand of love and identity. Hearing other femmes and butches talk about how they loved, their friendships, and how they formed community felt like someone held a mirror up to my soul. Being femme is something that’s really close to my heart.
About a year ago, I moved to a new area and I had to leave behind a lot of friendships, including a really close one with a butch who helped me realize my femme-ness, and lots of friends who were just really accepting of me. Now, I have a few lovely close friends, but none of them are lesbians and they’re pretty clear that they think the whole butch/femme thing is too old school. They’re mostly tolerant and a little dismissive to me about it, but it eats at me to think that something that matters so much to me is “outdated” or whatever (obviously it’s not lol) and to be so misunderstood by my friends. I’m really missing my old friends and confidence in my identity, and I really miss hanging out with other butches and femmes! I guess it’s just a bummer to not be able to share this beautiful part of myself with people that I’m otherwise close with, and not having a supportive community has made me feel really dumb for caring about being femme, and I’m not sure what to do.

I had a conversation with another butch last night (married to a femme) and we were almost brought to tears as each of us shared about the connection we have to each other (butches) and femmes in our lives. We didn’t even have the right words to describe the love and camaraderie and chemistry we feel towards other butches and femmes but we still kept nodding and saying “me too” and “yeah I know exactly what you mean”. Those that are not butch or femme just will not have the insight into our connections with each other. We exist independently but at the same time give each other safety and recognition that we can’t get outside of our b/f community.
Love or romance is only a part of our relationship with each other. Friendship and the experiences we share are deeply important to all of us. When it comes to emotional attachment there is just a little something special that is hard to verbalize but nonetheless we know it is there.
When there is passion, both emotional and sexual, it is a strong and deep bond that feeds our confidence and courage. You are not dumb for missing the connection or for wanting to wholeheartedly embrace your femme identity. It is something more complex than a word that implies the way we are seen in the world. It describes entire sets of shared experiences and the way we love each other.
I hope you find others soon who are femme and/or butch and who will be your support. There are a few butch and or femme centric facebook pages and instagram accounts. They might be able to steer you to others that are local to you or at least within reach for IRL friendships. Of course my old standby of women’s festivals.
Just know from me, an older butch, to you, a younger femme, the connection you crave is very real and your attachment to the word Femme is important and beautiful.

Could I perhaps request something sweet/fluffy (non-shippy!) with c!Dream and c!BBH, pls? 🥺👉👈 Only if'n you want to, though!
Absolutely, thank you for voting!
(Vote Fundy & Dream in this poll and send me proof to get a short story!)
“Dream?”
The man in question sat on top of the Community House, watching as the sun steadily sank lower in the sky, the beginnings of golden glint flickering on the water below. He half-turned, toying with the mask in his lap as if to hurriedly re-equip it.
“Oh! It’s just you, Bad.”
He scooted over and patted the spot next to him on the stone frame, which Bad gratefully lowered himself onto, staring out at the oncoming sunset. Together they watched it silently, lost in admiration.
“You know,” Bad started ponderously, “you’ve really built something special here, Dream.” He swept a clawed hand across the painted horizon, where their small collection of buildings gave way to rugged hills. His tail swept a low arc in tandem. “It could even succeed Munchy someday.” “Really?” Dream looked at his adoptive parent, surprised. “You really think so?”
“Maybe one day. Something so well-run and precious… Well, they don’t come often.”
And Dream knew Bad had the centuries of wisdom to back that up. He slipped into a daydream--tens, hundreds, maybe even thousands of people working, playing, living in the world he’d set aside for his friends. His very soul thrummed, the land crying happily in anticipation of a found family of however-many-people needed to find joy here. He didn’t even realize he was crying himself until Bad was reaching over and wiping the tears from Dream’s cheeks, hand-in-hand.
“You okay, Dream?” he asked worriedly, reminding Dream of the many times he’d gotten injured as a child, and how Bad’s steady presence comforted and provided for him endlessly. He smiled despite the tears, and Bad gave a fanged smile back.
“Yeah, I’m just, I’m just so happy,” he sniffled.
Bad patted him on the back and allowed Dream to lean into him, taking in their familial comfort as they had many times before. When the Dream Team had struck out on their own--determined beyond compare to find their own place and make a name for themselves--many tears had been shed during that watershed moment, as Bad’s youngest finally left the nest.
And now here they were, together again, a bright and shining future awaiting them.
“I’m so proud of you, my son.”

Three ships: forever and always a Queensquad (Mara Sov/Petra Venj/Sjur Eido) truther. Yeah I know Sjur is still dead and hasn't canonically met Petra but hey death doesn't seem to stick in Destiny. Ikora/Eris, also from Destiny. And from BG3, Shadowheart/Nocturne — it just writes itself!!
First ever ship: oh lord so idk how much of a thing this was outside of Spain but Pepa and Silvia from Los Hombres de Paco? It was the first time I saw wlw in Spanish TV when I was like... 14? Not older than 15. It was a watershed moment for baby dyke me.
Then Silvia got murdered the day of her wedding with Pepa and... Yeah.
I think it's important to mention that gay marriage just got approved in Spain when that episode was aired.
Last song: Absolutely Absent by Selofan.
Last movie: Fuck, I don't remember the last time I sat down to watch a movie. Probably rewatching A Fistful of Dollars with my dad.
Currently reading: idk if it "counts" but I'm reading a manual for a wargame, A War Transformed. I'm also awaiting the release of Exordia by Seth Dickinson with bated breath.
Currently watching: The Fall of the House of Usher
Currently consuming: vegan pad thai on my lunch break
Currently craving: for an elegant solution to this recurring problem at work to manifest itself before me (and maybe another coffee)
I'm gonna tag @seventhscorpio @xivu-arath @growsgardengrows @mxsovereign and @linka-from-captain-planet if they wanna do it. Or don't.
