Niamh's backstory up until she escapes from Niall is the same - her sister was murdered and she was held captive for five years, until she was able to retrieve her sealskin and kill him. She returns to her home island of Toka for a little while, but finds that she's struggling to fit back into her life at home without her sister there.

Her cousin, Bastion, offers to let her come be a member of his selkie pirate crew so she can have a change of scenery. A lot of the crew are her extended family members - cousins and such. She joins as their cook and musician, and thoroughly enjoys their adventures of hunting for treasure. It gives her space and time to start healing from what happened to her.

Eventually, she leaves her cousin's crew to set out on her own adventures, working as a musician for hire and busking in order to earn money. She's not opposed to joining a new crew - she's just waiting until the right one comes along.

So for plotting she can either still be with her cousin's crew or be out on her own, looking for a new crew to join.

Members of the selkie pirate crew (that I know of so far):

Bastion - he/him, the captain, leopard seal selkie, a big hulking man with wild long hair and a beard. He's fully blind, but has extremely sensitive and adept hearing and sense of smell. He's very stoic and quiet, and he will snap someone in half without breaking a sweat. Favors fighting with a trident because of the reach it gives him, though he's also adept at hand to hand combat. He's not fond of pillaging, though. (I literally picture J..ason M..amoa when I picture him)

Eir - he/him or they/them, 1st mate, Bastion's husband, gray seal selkie. Complete opposite of his husband - they're very cheerful and easygoing. Deadly with a spear. Likes to make bad jokes. Very good at haggling and trading.

I haven't thought of the rest of the crew yet lmao, we'll get there when I need to.

While they aren't particularly violent, the selkie crew can be very deadly, considering their connection to the sea. Selkies have the ability to create storms and can navigate treacherous waters with ease. Selkies are also trained from a young age to be proficient with using tridents and spears (mostly for fishing, but also for fighting/protection), though some of the selkies on the ship use swords or guns or what have you (it depends on their personal preference).

One of their biggest weaknesses, of course, is their sealskins, which they keep locked up tight. Selkie skins are valuable, both for selling and for using to trap a selkie under your control.

I picture Bastion's pirate crew being very viking esque in aesthetic tbh.

For Amoa- I greatly enjoy listening to your podcasts! It’s such a fun thing to just relax and listen to, especially when you play you’re own music.

My muse is blindfolded and listening. Go on anon and whisper something into their ear. It can be anything you like, a confession, a secret, a memory – there are no limits.

Her face would drastically redden at the heartfelt compliment. She works hard on her music, but it's still a hobby that she doesn't share often. The podcast was more of her way to 'socialize' since she struggled making in-person connections. "I-I'm glad you like it...!"

14. Favorite book you read this year?

A Madness of Angels is for sure my favorite first time read this year! the whole Matthew Swift series lives rent free in my brain now and AMoA hooked me so much I read them all in like a week and a half
