A list of hints in my rancher Among Us fic

last year I wrote a team rancher among us fic, in which the fact that it was an among us au was a twist near the end, but there were plenty of hints along the way!

I figure its been long enough now I can make a comprehensive list of all the hints I snuck in. If you'd like to read the fic first, and see how many you can find on your own, its right here

probably the most obvious one, the ship they are on is called The Skeld (aka, one of the maps in Among Us) I was hoping anyone who recognized it off the bat would assume it was just a silly reference, and I was right!

Right off the bat in chapter 1 Tango mentions going out in a space suit not being the "real space experience". I headcanon imposters can survive for at least a short time out in space, as its probably how they got onto ships and such if they didn't board at ports.

“Well you already know I’m Tango, Tango Tek, engineering officer.” he introduced with the last name he’d picked at 12 and been stuck with since. <- more of a hint that he's hiding something / not being truthful but I say it counts

"In return, Tango told him the safe parts of his past to share." <- another hint Tango is hiding things.

"Tango was usually put on those duties, because on paper he liked small spaces, and always seemed to get the job done faster than anyone else." <- considering imposters can go through vents crew members cant i say its safe to say they can shapeshift themselves smaller, which means tango can take more direct routes.

"The area was less lit than the rest of the ship, not that that mattered to Tango." <- Imposter have night vision, this is the first hint to that.

"They’d arrived at a small opening in the wall, a hole several feet across and several more tall labelled E-2M. It was a short one, with a vent that ran along up top going directly from the electrical hub room to the med bay." <- the skeld map in among us has a vent that goes between electrical and the med bay. heehee

“Making an example out of you,” a shudder went down Tango’s spine, memories of other examples he’d seen floating by his kind. <- no way Tango hasn't seen/heard what's happening to other imposters out there who get caught

Jimmy mentions, in the evacuation scene, that he went towards the cafeteria but had to detour, and is by administration. The admin room is right next to the cafeteria on the among us skeld map.

Jimmy mentions, several times, how dark it is and how hard it is to see, yet from Tango's POV we get a near perfect description of the large cafeteria. Imposter night vision<3

"He stretched his arm out, he stretched it as far it could humanly go, and then stretched it further, right between the blast doors." <- this is one of the most obvious hints, referencing Imposter shape shifting abilities, and is meant to start cluing in the audience that something is up.

Their rescue vessel is called The Airship, another Among Us map

and then, of course, Tango's panic at the diagnostic scan.

Haven't visited this blog in a long time, finally decided to follow. Anyways, the new Among Us show. Trailer's out. Heard of it? Thoughts?

Yes I have watched it and yes I have thoughts lol

First of, my one main criticism: I don’t think Among Us lends itself well to a thin-lined art style. At least, not as thin as the show uses. While thin line art makes animating easier and is useful for smaller details (such as hands or outfit details, the Among Us art style is already very simple and the thin line art doesn’t look nearly as nice when it’s applied to the whole body. Even just a border along the outside of the characters would be an improvement imo.

Ok now onto the good stuff lol

It looks like we could get some info on what the crewmates and the Skeld in particular actually do and what their mission is, which I love. While finding (or running from) the impostors is the point of the game, there’s a lot of small details that tie the various areas together, such as the loading room/Skeld being present in Mira HQ and Polus. By extension, I notice that a lot of characters’ concepts are drawn from the various tasks in the game, which I also like.

I have no opinion on the VAs since I don’t really recognize any of them and we didn’t get any voice clips in the trailer. Better than all the voices once again going to Big Name VAs, though.

Given that the series is drawing from the various maps for pretty much every aspect in some way or another, that means we should address the elephant in the room (or my personal hiding hole, specifically) of what they’re planning to do with the airship map. The airship map is solely an homage to Henry Stickmin and holds no remnants of the Skeld or any Among Us continuity, so it could easily be just passed over and not appear in the series at all. Alternatively, it could lend itself well to a one-off crossover episode, either being just an AU of both Among Us and THSC, or being a meeting of the Skeld crew and the AU!Toppat Clan (haha AU bc it’s an alternate universe but also it’s… sorry ignore me). Of course this all depends on if PuffballsUnited would even want to, but while I won’t keep my hopes up too high I also wouldn’t discount the possibility.

That brings me to my final concern, which strays from the main topic a bit so I’ll put it below a cut:

With the new series comes the potential for there to be a resurgence of the THSC fandom. On one hand, the THSC fandom is pretty homogenous, and it’s hard to gain traction unless you either work your way into one of two, maybe three circles of people in the fandom, or you happen to fill a specific niche that no one else does. On the other hand, while I didn’t join the fandom right after THSC released, I did catch the tail end of its time having been more popular (particularly the discourse), and that’s a part of the fandom I wouldn’t want to see revived. I won’t say that the fandom as it is now is immune or exempt from displaying toxic behavior or stirring discourse, but it is a lot better than it was around 2021. That said, my autistic ass is probably biased in that regard.

HOA Among Us Gameplay

Seasons Greetings! Are you a House of Anubis fan? Do you find yourself wanting a chance to experience being the characters themselves? Did you play the Among Us game at some point in your life? Do you want to unite with your fellow HOA fans and accuse them of murder?

Well, this is the place for you!

Listen, as Sibuna followers we’re on top of anything spooky and creepy. Let’s put ourselves to the test and have a nice gameplay of Among Us. Maybe three rounds, maybe more depending how we’re feeling after.

We play as characters, try to be in character for as long as possible. If you’re Fabian or Nina, be super sleuthy. If you’re Patricia never stop accusing people or causing fights. If you’re Jerome… you’re probably the impostor.

When?

On December 27th, on 5PM AST (time is a default and available to change if contacted) we shall connect and play a rousing game of Among Us, dress up and name ourselves after our chosen HOA character and figure out the two imposters among us. You heard that right, folks! Two imposters.

I will be posting the game entry code 10 minutes before we begin so everyone can get settled.

Which Among Us map will we explore?

Map will be The Airship (it has a very Anubis House vibe to it). But since it’s also larger than most, I suggest practice playing it solo. For more information, please DM me and I can teach you how. If not, the map can always go back to the original setting: The Skeld.

There are 15 slots for a full Among Us gameplay and if we have more than 15 people interested, I suggest to repeat the activity with the others the next day on Dec. 23rd. Anyone interested in replaying can do so as well if there are slots available for the next day.

Ooooo! How delightful! Well, I’m Dr.Steven, as you know. My favourite colour is Red, but a nice teal never disappoints! My favourite among us map must be Polus, or the airship! However, I appreciate the simplicity of the map in Polus. I have lots of favourite foods, mainly sushi.

I had the idea of Franziska von Karma playing Among us and it spiraled out of control. Not I have headcanons for pretty much every major character

-Pheonix "made two separate careers out of bluffing" Wright might be somewhat good at among us, crazy I know. He isn't always good about doing his tasks and rarely gets kills as an imposter, but he's more than good enough at social deduction and not getting caught to make up for it. Usually when he loses it's because of a misclick, typo, or some other example of him being unable to touch any phone that isn't a Nokia without exposing himself as an old man who doesn't know how compupers work

-Maya Fey is here for a good time and has never taken a game seriously. She could be pretty good if she tried but she has way more fun messing around, whether it be playing a role, throwing, going third imposter, trolling, or doing whatever bit she thinks would be funniest. She is a menace to the society and we love her for it.

-Edgeworth just cannot with this game. Deduction he can do. Social? Not so much. Doesn't help that he's only marginally better with tech then his idiot boyfriend. Edgeworth can figure out who the imposter is, and cannot under any circumstance do anything else. No kills, no tasks, no sabotages, nothing. Man would spend half the game on the card swipe, he's probably allergic to the airship map.

- Franziska is the type of person who would initially dismiss the game, but as soon as Maya gets her to try it it just clicks for her. She's great at this foolish game, she can do the tasks, she can get the kills, and of course she can deduce who the imposter is. She is, of course, basically perfect in every way you can think of. She has a 50% win ratio because she keeps getting voted off for being rude.

-Gumshoe and Magey are too nice to be good at Among us. They are terrible but in the most endearing way, everyone wants to play with them

-Ema only does her tasks if she likes doing them and she feels like it. She's always playing detective and doesn't take even try unless she thinks she can figure it out. That goes for imposter too, she just screws around doing whatever she thinks is funny. Maya likes it when Ema is imposter

-Larry sucks at among us. He is basically eternally sus, he has no chill, and he's just bad at the game in general. He can only live past round one if people take pity on him. But he can at do all the tasks pretty well, so there's that

-Mia and Diego are really good at among us. Basically every reason phoenix is good, without the complete inability to play video games. They are also a power couple, you never want them both to be imposters. Although it's not really any better when one of them is imposter because then the other just goes third imposter. Although if Maya is there, they would just join in on her antics.

- Pearl is the most inconsistent Among us player around. Sometimes she's great. Sometimes she's terrible. Sometimes she's taking things way to seriously, and other times she plays like Maya. This is probably because she tends to shift her priorities depending on who she is playing with- she'll buddy up with Mia and Godot, cause problems with Maya, be a try hard with Franziska, ECT. She does whatever they want her to do because at the end of the day, she's just here to play with them.

- Kay Faraday is good at among us. Sebastian Debeste is not (but he thinks he is). Together they are siblings playing Among us together. Chaos will ensue

- Lana is good at among us, although she mostly just plays because Ema and Mia do

- Apollo is very good at deduction and ok at everything else. Can't play with voice chat though, especially not proximity mod. His screaming usually just gets him voted out.

- Trucy Wright is the greatest among us player who ever lived. Every task, every lie, every kill, executed with goddess-like perfection. Nothing escapes her eyes, no eyes can catch her. Only a select few people can possibly tell when she is imposter. Of them; Phoenix, Mia, and Godot just play along and let's her win, Maya outright jumps at the chance to third imposter, Franziska would try to stop her but after failing so many times she just curses so much upon realizing it's her that she gets voted out anyways, and Apollo announces "Trucy is imposter again. I give up" in chat and goes to stand around in a fun room until Trucy wins after easily deflecting the accusation.

- Athena might try and be decent or just mess around, depends on her mood. She's a good crewmate who is good at deductions and tasks, but as imposter she often gets greedy and gets caught because of it

-Juniper is to nice to be good at this game, but she's cute and everyone loves playing with her

- Hugh is a dork who thinks he's good at this game but isn't. His rivalry with Sebastian is as hilarious as it is pathetic

- Robin is good, but she's mostly just to hang with her besties (and try to get Hugh and Sebastian on a date already)

- Clay Terrain plays by one rule - commit to the bit. Games with him and the Fey's can only ever end in chaos. He's the one person who can get Apollo to join the dark side too, so now even he is causing problems on purpose

- Klaviar Gavin doesn't play among us, he plays flirting with Apollo simulator. Jokes aside - although I'm only half joking, this is just an excuse to spend time with Apollo to him - he's pretty good at the game in general, especially as crewmate. Although you can tell when he's the imposter because he spends the whole time following Apollo instead of killing people.

--Apollo usually enjoys playing with Trucy a lot more if Clay and/or Klaviar is also playing, because then he has someone to talk to while he waits for Trucy to win

- Simon Blackquill is the type of guy to act like he's always the imposter. He votes for himself, accuses himself, agrees when someone accuses him, ECT. He's pretty good at the game, but for him the bit takes priority

- Aura on the other hand could not be fucked. She's not bad at all, she just doesn't care. She just kinda lets things happen - you could kill in front of her and she wouldn't care enough to report it

- Nayuta's the kind of try hard to use every type of cheese he can think of at every opportunity. Imposter forgets to fake keys? He'll call it out. Someone walk out of a room facing the wrong way? He is on that. It's kinda annoying TBH. All that effort and he still can't tell when it's Trucy

- Rayfa is a sore loser and she keeps getting voted off for rudeness. She's just kinda ok at the game otherwise. She's getting better in both regards, though

Among Us is a multiplayer social deduction game for four to fifteen players. Up to three players are randomly and secretly chosen to be the impostor(s) each round. As of 2023, five playable maps are available; a spaceship called "the skeld," an office building called "mira hq," a planet base called "polus," "the airship," a setting from innersloth's henry stickmin series, or "the fungle," a fungus-filled alien planet. to win, the crewmates must either complete all the tasks assigned to them or eject all of the impostors. the impostors can win by either killing all of the crewmates or by sabotaging a critical system on the map

what are the major factions in Eyecandy's setting? are there any important-but-small factions? which factions will be in focus, narratively?

absolute shambling ramble below the cut!

The largest faction in the setting is definitely the Dragoon Navy - the godslaying navy we've mentioned in the captions of our drawings we've been doing! They're essentially a nation-sized navy of airships formed to kill the godlike monsters that show up every few decades, now with 600 years of history behind them. The long gaps between Leviathans actually showing up leaves a lot of time where they still need to somehow support themselves, so 85% of the time theyre seen as essentially a pirate navy hoarding the technological secrets that make their ships actually work. The Admiral Bloodied Dove has also, on a few occasions, used the navy to intervene militarily against the nation-states forming groundside.

While they use naval ranks, Captains are elected from among the crews annually. Technically, Captains can then vote amongst themselves to elect a new Admiral, but running against an immortal that half of your weird paramilitary sees as a saint doesn't tend to appeal to many.

Other than them, theres various nation-states which… we dont have much to say about. They're all fairly small (think princedoms in the HRE.) because of the nature of the setting - reality is only stable enough to do things like Build Cities in small pockets, surrounded by a morass of dreamlike uncertainty. The narrative mostly unfolds between three of these nations, with their tensions simmering in the background: Illrd, Stacks, and Vermillion.

With that said, there are several nomadic groups who live out there in the fog, the Covens! Their direct involvement in the narrative is limited (though one of our protagonists comes from the covens), but their actions come up a lot - living in the mists outside of the established nations, the covens are the ones who are able to chart and map the dreamlike demi-reality enough to find spots where it can be Forced into a shape enough to run railroads and such.

The actual story is on a pretty personal scale, so national/factional conflict mostly forms the backdrop to the core narrative, rather than being a particular focus? We do have some really disorganized docs with things like railroad companies and unions and which covens mostly deal with the cities where the characters live, but thats mostly for us to keep names and dates and such straight, and probably not an interesting read even if we did rewrite them to be halfway comprehensible, ehe.

Fallout Mods/Setting Concepts that I think are neat/would be fun to encounter:

* A monastic chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel (The Steel Quill?) Organized around an Abbott and the preservation of written culture and blueprints and stuff.

* A religious radio station that is run out of an old house with an antenna on top that makes it look like a church with a steeple from the distance.

* [Wild Wasteland] A Quest that takes you through areas modeled after the Among Us maps (Not Airship). Solving the murders, repairing the systems, etc.

* Snowy areas. I would love a Fallout Alaska or something similar

* Post-War Communist/Socialist/left-anarchist groups. Maybe an actual settlement of Maoist ghouls, maybe just a small town that does mutual aid.

* Historians. I know that Rivet City has Abraham Washington, but I want more characters like that. People willing to pay you in exchange for historical documents, artifacts, and other similar things. (Can you tell I majored in History? Lol)

* In a similar vein, I want more factions based off thematically historical groups. Just spitballing here, Fallout Kentucky. Base a group of slavers out of Ashland, and base a group of abolitionists out of Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace.

* Some guy in the Commonwealth who claims to represent the British Empire, who has an army of (like, 3) synths/robots who just spout the recordings from the Museum of Freedom. If you tell him you are with the Minutemen, he will attack you. Quirky, but fun at the same time.

* A Soda Shop vendor. I’m actually trying to make this one work, but I have never made a mod before so it is slow going lol. I’m gonna try to build him his own shop and quests and stuff. I will add to this post if I actually end up making it.

-Shelby keeps getting jumpscared by the seeker (imposter) + the music that plays whenever they're near, but somehow survives

-Scott is incredibly good at being the seeker. His only weakness is the airship (the map w ladders) since its easy to cheese the system and escape the seeker (based on experience)

-Tiff is the one player who actually tries to do the tasks, mostly to end up dying mid-task

-Lauren accidentally uses her only hide (vent for escaping) on accident in the first game because she thought you could have more than one

-Cleo evades the seeker to the best of her ability and ends up carrying certain rounds

-Pris uses the ladders in the airship map to annoy the seekers (mainly scott)

-El makes it out of every seeker encouter she has, but ends up dying in the final stretch because she used up her vents + the constant pings that the seeker gets

-Joey is always The Coven's #1 target if they can't find anyone else while The Faries try and keep him alive. He either dies first or ends up being the last few alive

Bonus: This is the only mode where the witches get a chance to win against Bertha. Bertha's scaringly good at being the seeker, almost winning every time but has lost a couple amount of games as the hider

Part One: Runaway

Sonic falls, a sharp blow to the ground brings unbearable pain and he barely has enough strength to get back on his feet, turning around, he sees that most of his friends have already turned and are now pulling their hands towards him, but somewhere in the distance among the limp, giving off a metallic glow of the mass, he noticed a small center of resistance, this was Tails who unsuccessfully tried to shake off two infected Chao. Sonic's eyes were overshadowed by darkness, the last of his strength was only enough to run up to his friend, push away the attackers and shout: "Tails, RUN!". But soon the metal shroud finally covered him, capturing his body and taking control of his mind.

Despite all his efforts, the pursuers did not lag behind and, getting too close, clung to his tails with a tight grip, attempts to shake them off were unsuccessful, but suddenly someone ran near him and the attackers unhooked, a second later Tails heard his friend's shout, turning in his direction saw Sonic, he fell on all fours, but soon straightened up, shook his head and looked at his friend with flaming red eyes filled with hatred. "It's not him anymore" he said to himself, and without a second's hesitation, rushed away. Many hands, like branches of trees in a dense forest, tried to grab him, but their slowness and predictability did not allow it to happen. Soon, behind the backs of the infected, the outlines of airship appeared, into which crowds of panicked refugees were trying to break through. Tails ran there when suddenly a shuriken flew near his head and hit the zombot walking behind.

"Come here, hurry up!" Beckoning with his hand, Espio said.

He didn't have to repeat it twice, and a second later they were standing next to each other looking at the approaching horde.

"I didn't expect to see anyone else, you okay?".

"Relatively" Tails said, showing his tails, on which the metal infection was slowly spreading.

"I know what needs to be done" He took out another shuriken from behind his back.

"What are you going to do?!"

Due to the partial disassembly of the shuttle, not all the survivors had enough space on board, and several unfortunate people had to be left behind.

"Espio, let's get on board, we're taking off" A voice could be heard from the loudspeaker.

"There is no more free space here, I'll take a ride on outside" Having said this, he hooked his kunai on the airship and tied the rope tighter to his arm.

"I'm sorry" For the last time looking at those who were not destined to fly away with the rest, Espio said.

The airship slowly rose into the air and soon left the doomed place. Looking at the map of the area, Tails figured out where to go, there were many red crosses on it and another one appeared on angel island. But he did not have time to choose his next destination when suddenly something violently shook the shuttle and short screams were heard, the on-board computer reported a hit on the cargo compartment, a slight damage to the third and critical fourth engine was displayed on the status panel. Airship slowly began to lose speed and altitude, it tilted slightly to the right.

"Espio, are you okay?! What happened?!".

"It's Zavok, he launched his fireball at us. There's another one coming, watch out!".

A sharp turn to the left helped to avoid the second one. It was followed by a third, but also unsuccessfully.

"None of you will get out of here!" Zavok loud scream seemed to tear the space and shake everything around.

The fourth fireball got into the fuel compartment causing a leak, the shuttle shook once again, loud conversations and screams were continuously heard from the cargo compartment. The airship, as if weakened by a lack of blood body began to turn off, then start up. However, soon the engines stalled, and it continued to fly only on the remainder of inertia, inevitably falling towards the city ahead. The computer rapidly reported about dangerously high loss of altitude, lack of fuel and demanded the immediate ejection of the pilot, but despite this, Tails continued trying to keep airship in a horizontal position.

"Attention everyone, due to the lack of a landing space nearby, I am forced to make an emergency landing, get ready, if possible, fasten your seat belts or hold on to something, everything... Everything will be alright, I... I promise" He could barely pry his trembling fingers off the speaker button. The buildings were getting closer, the heartbeat was getting faster, and a second before the collision, Tails closed his eyes. Screams, explosions, the grinding of metal, the noise of broken mechanisms drowned each other out and with them came a burning pain, but it did not last long and soon everything was quiet, as well as the pounding of his heart.
