Apparently Shadow the hedgehog and Amy Rose are.. swifites? which, was a throwback ( my memory bang ) I was not expecting.

I'm going to my good ol' favorite songs now. I literally just searched up the top songs for Katy Perry and Taylor Swift and broke out into song just reading the titles. Though I've never been big enough on the musical genre have an identifier like "Swiftie"- (I've moved on to more hard metal and rock, haha) THE THROWBACK MUST BEGIN!!

To be honest, I'm actually really glad these two characters are getting along. They're actually the two characters that I relate to the most (I've even grouped them up together in my au's and writings) and in a strange way, kind of warms my heart up a bit.

Hearing "you're a swiftie" though was one of those "WTF AMY" moments (I just sat there, flabbergasted), but god she is so cute.

She went "Strawberry shortcake" and I was just like "yeah, strawberry shortcake" with her. (though strawberry shortcake is really good! I had some, and too be honest it's not as good as dark chocolate, mocha or coffee flavored cakes, e.c.t. (yes, specifically those listed I make no exceptions.) though who doesn't like strawberries?)

I do NOT know what ancient being has erupted from inside the depths of my cranium, but this FUCKING CHARACTER keeps on making me discover more and more weird ass fucking things about myself, and I am conflicted, confused, angry, and utterly flabbergasted. I feel like an angry mom on facebook talking about how their child should've gotten a gold star for their kinder-garden assignment.

It’s been three weeks and I still have not sorted my feelings about Legends Con. So have this random, unorganized list of things that happened that I still remember (more under the cut):

Nick tried to flash (stood on a chair and pulled up his shirt) Tala and Maisie during their panel but no one noticed him in the back

On the other hand when Arthur showed up during Caity and Jes’ panel they immediately saw him and greeted him

Caity was asked what Sara’s safe word is at the Meet&Greet and her answer was “Chiquita Banana”

When asked who they would eat first on a deserted island, pretty much everyone immediately said “Dom”

Caity and Jes kept talking about doing a podcast and asking people for stuff to talk about. Jes suggested they should just do Stabcast but Caity said she doesn’t like True Crime (which fair, I don’t either lol)

Adam said Avalance’s kid is named Rose and that Gary would be a great babysitter but he definitely would lose her at some point

At the opening ceremony Caity was like “I think the last time I said I was getting married. And I did it. *shows her ring* And Jes had our baby!”

When talking about the hardest goodbyes, Caity being Caity forgot Dom left and wasn’t even in the final season. Her answer was Franz btw.

A kid asked Amy, Caity and Jes if they would rather jump in lava or drown in water if they had to die and Jes was like “How old are you? Where is your mother?!” lmao

Jes recited the condolence card from Meet The Legends to the best of her recollection and kept laughing

Arthur kept mentioning how weird it is that all these fans and the cast are in his hometown

I could listen to Maisie talk for hours, just wanted to throw that in here

Jes was talking about how beautiful the gold dress from 502 was and Caity replied with “Anything you wear is beautiful 🥰” before Amy chimed in that she is still looking for the video of Liv and Jes laughing at Matt falling off his chair that was mentioned earlier lol

When asked about a crack ship (Rishop = Rip/Bishop) Arthur went on to talk about how he loves fanfiction lol

When asked if Nick or Matt is the better kisser Tala said “Maisie”

Adam started singing I Will Always Love You (forgot why) and Maisie left him hanging by not joining in and just smiling/laughing

Poor Matt didn’t know about the Human Centipede but now he does

Jes came up with the pick up line “I can be your legend until tomorrow” and then was like “someone try this tonight at the bar!”

On the second day Adam brought a water pistol to the panel and used it on everyone who got up to ask a question

Adam was THE hype man all weekend. He kept starting “When I say DC you say Legends of Tomorrow” chants

The fandom organized a group gift to give each cast member a trophy of the Waverider. We were allowed to present it to them at the closing ceremony.

Nick was called “Brad Pitt” during the trophy ceremony and Adam being Adam stood up instead

Amy sang Future Favorite with one of the kids at the closing ceremony

Adam said something about how he doesn’t like being emotional in front of people and everyone started chanting “SHOW EMOTIONS”

By the end of the closing ceremony everyone was super emotional. Caity was too emotional to speak when it was her turn and started crying and Jes hugged her. She said “I miss you guys” to the cast and went back for another hug. Jes was like “stop the emotions. stop the emotions” in reference to the earlier chant

A small list of some of the things that happened to me personally. I won’t share it all in detail here though, for reasons:

When I got my solo photo op with Caity, she saw my Real Housewives Sara shirt and was like “That’s funny. Can I take a picture?” and then she posted it on her IG Story

Amy spoke German to me out of nowhere when she noticed my accent. She also called me back during our photo op to ask me how I was and if I slept alright.

Jes gave me this 🥺 look when I talked to her at the autograph table

Nick held my hand for like a minute which was super overwhelming especially cause I struggle with eye contact lol. He also kept lovingly teasing me the whole weekend.

Me and a bunch of people did the 709 costumes as cosplay and won ‘Best Group’. It was a lot of fun.

Non the less though she will reasure you and be supportive

As for meeting the furious five,she will stand next to you and glare at them,basically telling them that one wrong move will lead to their early grave.

If you joined the furious five she would try let you be independent,she knows that sometimes people want to prove themselves

The fact that yours a snake means your able to travel throughout the studio easier

although since he ends up keeping you alive he does ask that if you come across an intruder to alert him

OKAY AS PROMISED IM BACK WITH SOME GOOD OL GOVERNMENT SLANDER LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO

And as usually I haven’t read the page in the past 5 minutes so some details are most certainly lost within the inner machinations of my mind so please don’t excuse me if I get some things wrong. I’m also a high school student so I also don’t know every little detail about how government organizations work but let’s pretend I do for the funny.

Now, what we see of GUN (Will not be using the periods because that’s too much work lmfao) is pretty antagonistic at first glance. First they won’t permit Amy to be in the base without specific permission from anyone in charge, then they see one little thing wrong with Omega and treat it like it’s the black plague or something, and then they don’t even refer to Omega as a real person, AND THEN THEY PREPARE THE GUY FOR EXECUTION????????? YEAH WHAT A NICE TRACK RECORD THEY GOT GOING ON!!!!

However, I do have the obligation to defend a majority of the things they do here. First we’ll start with Amy’s initial rejection.

Again, a ton of details about this part are lost to me as they came out nearly a year ago and I just spontaneously decided to send in this ask.

When Amy waltz’s right on into GUN’s base of operation, she does arrive with the consent of Rouge, but our badass bat queen is not the one in charge. Yes, Rouge is a very well-respected spy in the business and she is held in high regard, but she’s only one of the higher-ups. She isn’t “The Big Man” upstairs or whatever. Not only that, but she is allies with some pretty suspicious individuals, like Sonic for example, who was already on GUN’s hit list a few times now. And not to mention, she treats Omega like he’s a real person instead of just some Eggman robot that went rogue. In this context, not only do GUN have reason to be suspicious of Rouge just allowing a random girl into their top secret operations base, but they also have reason to be wary near Omega. (I’ll get into this later) And by the way, Amy is practically unheard of to GUN, at least from what I know. They have Sonic and a majority of his friends on file, but I’ve never seen Amy interact with GUN at all until this point. Even if she had, GUN would still know very little about her. So for her to just waltz right on in and claim she’s working with Rouge, the only other Mobian besides Shadow btw, it’s understandable that GUN is gonna be pretty weird about that.

Now sure, Amy did claim she was working with Rouge, but that’s just it. Rouge and Shadow are the only Mobians within a mostly human organization, Mobians who do have previous criminal records. I am honestly shocked the two were able to work with GUN in the first place. So allowing another Mobian onto the team, even temporarily, is a big deal.

Alright that’s enough of that I’ve basically sang GUN its praises from heaven and back so we’re gonna get into the nitty-gritty now muahahahahahaaaaa

Now about everyone just hating on Omega? Well, they still have some reason to do so. Before Shadow and Rouge, GUN was quite strict in who they let in, as with any scientific/military operation that’s in cahoots with the government. Oh, and they also hate Eggman. So allowing Team Dark’s third and most op member Omega to be hired was quite the stretch. In real life, allowing a robot to work at all would basically be a felony as it could lead to harmful outcomes like software malfunctions, miscalculations, harming other workers, etc. To many things can go wrong when a robot is on the clock, and in this case, the robot is also very genocidal and wants the death of anyone who gets in his way. The only attribute that GUN can have any hope in is the well-known fact that Omega despises Eggman with a passion. Ya boi hates Eggman more than the whole of GUN, which to them is saying a lot! So GUN is already taking enough risk by allowing Omega to exist within the workspace!

But that’s the thing here. Everyone is so focused on the what-ifs with Omega that they never stop to think about what he’s really like. Everyone is afraid of Omega, or at least afraid of what he is capable of, so they all avoid him like the plague. On top of all that, due to their honestly not unfounded fear, they’ve been preparing for the worst from the guy. GUN probably has a ton of unnecessary protocols now all thanks to Omega’s mere existence, and so if anything were to go even a little bit wrong… Welp. We all know what they’d have to do.

To me, this does seem slightly reasonable, at least given how Omega truly is. The guy is a loose cannon, literally and figuratively, and his rage is unmatched! So it does seem understandable to an extent as to why Omega is treated in this way.

What isn’t reasonable though is how he’s treated on the other side of things. Yes, ya boi is a hazard. Yes, he could burn the whole place to the ground and not feel an ounce of regret. Yes, Omega is very unpredictable! However, that’s just how some people are in real life too! Real people are unpredictable and violent, and yet we don’t see everyone treating them like a plaything! To GUN, Omega is seen as both a useful tool and an unpredictable hazard, just like I said, and both these qualities combined make for a very demeaning description. Because while Omega is a robot, he still can feel and have emotions similarly to, if not exactly like a regular person! (See my previous essay to get a bigger picture for what I mean by this) He acts and feels just as human as the others, and we can tell he clearly wants to be treated as such! Omega doesn’t seem to mind the over-the-top precautions necessary for his own existence, and he doesn’t care if he gets the occasional glare or two from a coworker. What he does clearly care about is being called a violent yet necessary tool, a monster, a robot, an emotionless tin can, an it…! Omega hates being undermined. He despises the fact that he’s constantly being misjudged for what he is, not because of who he is. No one treats Omega like a real living creature, and instead treats him like another tool in the shed, a faulty lawnmower or a dulled bush trimmer. Yes, he’s useful, and yeah he is on their side! But he’s also just a bunch of code and numbers, nothing but ones and zeroes, and they’re all treating him as such. Nobody really cares about him. Nobody sees Omega for who he really is. Which is why whenever he can, Omega always gravitates towards the only other oddballs in the workplace, the only Mobians, the only people who will treat him with respect.

And finally, we come to the last section of this very very VERY LONG ESSAY ABOUT A SINGLE CHARACTER, the execution. Or I guess the attempted execution.

So, like I said beforehand, Omega has a LOT of precautions on his belt, and also like I stated, one of them is his execution. If anything were to go wrong at all, if Omega were to step out of line, the guy would have to at the very least be taken apart just to see what’s wrong. If GUN were feeling nice, they wouldn’t straight up kill the guy, and at this point in time it’s clear that the higher-ups have taken a liking to Omega. So going this far was not their intention in the slightest. It would be considered though if anything like it were to happen again, but thanks to the new pages I think they’re beginning to reconsider this. Omega has now been taken over/amplified by Dark Gaia, (Also see my previous ask to know what I think on all that) and that is seen as an accident worthy of an execution in the eyes of the government. And in some cases that’d be understandable, but in this case it isn’t. GUN has been working with Omega for a while at this point, and not only that, but like I JUST SAID, they like him. Or at least they think they do. Executing Omega for something that was clearly out of his control is not necessary in the slightest and it is exactly why I did this whole thing.

okay so as you can probably tell I’m getting tired of typing on my iPad generation 10 screen keyboard so I’ll try to keep this short.

Summary: Omega is an unpredictable force of nature that GUN clearly doesn’t like. They like the concept of him being on their side and the General likes him personally, but Omega in theory and Omega in practice are two separate robots. Having robots in the workplace at all can have dire consequences, so not only have GUN taken multiple extra precautions just in case something bad happened thanks to Omega, but they also treat him like a piece of junk! It’s terrible, but at the end of the day that’s kinda just what needs to be done. GUN is a government operation that hates Eggman, so anything trouble-making within the business is seen as a liability or a hazard, which includes our favorite homicidal maniacal robot.

First Impression: Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out S2

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and Uzaki is looking to hang out with her senpai. The first episode of season two starts with a nice little montage of the two of them spending Christmas together, but before we can plan out a new entry in the 12 Days of Christmas Anime, the new OP (quite a bop, btw) moves the action back to summer. Uzaki is feeling pretty down about summer coming to a close, but Itsuhito brings her spirits up by reminding her that summer isn’t the only time she can hang out with Sakurai. The scene transitions to a quick flashback of Sakurai helping Uzaki with her swimming before Itsuhito convinces the two to go bowling together with him. Uzaki and Sakurai (aka “punk” according to the name she inputs onto the scorecard screen) decide to compete, suggesting whoever has the lower score must do the bidding of the other. Despite Uzaki’s confidence, Sakurai has actually improved since the last time they played. Will he finally taste victory? Meanwhile, Mr. Asai makes plans to close early for the day, but Ami neglects to tell Sakurai and Uzaki, making her own fiendish plans. Unfortunately for Ami, the fun ends when Mr. Asai returns and she gets her just deserts. A while later, we find Sakurai struggling to stay awake before class due to Uzaki keeping him up late playing video games. Itsuhito suggests he take a nap, promising to wake him up before class starts. But of course things don’t quite play out that way, do they?

The first season was a fun and relaxing romp, and season two is looking to be more of the same. The interaction between Uzaki and Sakurai is hilarious and Uzaki’s teasing comes off much more light-hearted than some others I’ve seen. Funny enough, Itsuhito has mellowed out some while Ami has gone the opposite way. In the first season, Itsuhito went out of his way to push the relationship between Uzaki and Sakurai, but now he seems more content to watch and just comment in his mind. In contrast, Ami, who initially came off as being rather level-headed (if a bit extreme in her tastes), is now trying to pull others fully into her delusions and desires. This is continuing to be a lot of fun and I’m really looking forward to seeing how things progress as the season continues.

Tech trustbusting's moment has arrived

When it's railroading time, you get railroads.

When the railroads turn into the personal satrapies of rail-barons, you get trustbusters.

A couple decades ago, it was online service time. We had the users, the telcoms systems, the computers, the modems, so we got platforms.

We had that, but we lacked something important: effective antimonopoly enforcement. Lax merger laws allowed companies with access to capital markets to buy out or neutralize all their competitors, so we got monopolies.

Right on schedule, we're getting digital trustbusters.

Now, some people aren't technically sophisticated, but they do understand a lot about competition law. That's how you get meat-and-taters antitrust proposals like Amy Klobuchar's CALERA, which address the structural problems with antitrust law.

Klobuchar's bill is hugely important. The reason we have monopolies is that we stopped enforcing anti-monopoly law 40 years ago. Monopoly isn't a tech problem, it's everywhere from sneakers to glass bottles to pro wrestling to candy to aerospace.

Klobuchar's CALERA doesn't just seek to apply antitrust law to tech – it also explicitly restores the pre-Reagan basis for fighting monopolies: we fight monopolies because they concentrate power and corrupt our politics. All monopolies are guilty unless proven otherwise.

But though industries all attained their monopolies through similar tactics – predatory acquisitions and mergers, vertical integration – they also each have their own technical characteristics that must inform our demonopolization tactics.

Take emergency care: monopolists love ERs because we don't choose which ER to use, nor when. You can't shop for an ER from the back of an ambulance. You don't know going in whether you're going to spend $1m or $1k. And you'll buy whatever services the ER tells you to buy.

Or power-grids: demand for electricity is both inelastic (you need power when you need power) and price-insensitive, and that inelasticity increases with demand: that is, when it's freezing or boiling out, everyone wants electricity.

Tech, of course, has its own technical characteristics. Chief among these is its flexibility. At a deep, theoretical level our digital tools and networks are capable of interoperating with one another in ways that no physical technologies can match.

Think of the Australian rail-system. In the mid-19th century, would-be rail-barons laid differing gauges in hopes of conquering the nation's logistics and transport. For 150+ years, engineers have tried to solve the "multi-gauge muddle" by designing multi-system railcars.

Hundreds of designs for cars that retract and extrude different wheelbases have been tried, and none ever caught on. Instead, Australia is tearing up and re-laying thousands of kilometers' worth of track. With physical tech, "compatibility" often means starting from scratch.

Not so with digital tech. If you are an OS company whose rival has locked up all office docs in a proprietary format, you don't have to convince all its customers to abandon their documents and start over. You just make a compatible program:

With digital and physical tech, network effects drive high switching costs, but when it comes to digital, network effects are a double-edged sword.

Good tech policy emphasizes interoperability when it comes to demonopolizing the digital world. Long before the US ACCESS Act and the EU Digital Markets Act, Mike Masnick published his seminal "Protocols, Not Platforms" paper.

Masnick's "protocols" are a vision for a decentralized, better internet. Keller's Magic APIs describe a legal path to getting there. My own work on Competitive Compatibility (nee Adversarial Interoperability) describes how we'll STAY there.

Because monopolies are good at subverting regulation, so any Magic API rule would be brittle – dependent on the tech companies not sabotaging those APIs by moving the important data-flows away from the mandatory APIs.

That's why we have to strip monopolists of the power to ask a court to block interoperators: take away the wildly distorted copyright, patent, terms of service and other legal doctrines that Big Tech ignored during its ascent, but now enforces against would-be competitors.

With both interop mandates and a legal right for new entrants to force interoperability through technical means, tech giants will face consequences if they subvert antimonopoly rules.

The choice becomes: either respect the intent of a mandate and preserve interop; or be plunged into a chaotic arms-race with competitors who switch to scraping, bots, and reverse-engineering.

All of this is incredibly wonkish, a highly specialized debate that involves highly technical propositions about how digital technology works today, how it used to work and how it might work – layered atop a similar, highly technical understanding of antitrust law.

The Venn overlap of "deep understanding of digital tech" and "deep understanding of antitrust debates" isn't so much a slice as it is a sphincter, and the debate has been equally narrow, but when it's railbaron time, you get trustbusters.

The tech monopoly/interop debate is going mainstream. Francis Fukuyama and his colleagues at the Stanford Working Group on Platform Scale have proposed an intervention similar to the ACCESS Act, where trusted third parties mediate between monopolists, new entrants and users.

The Stanford proposal calls them "middleware companies," but they're conceptually interchangeable with the idea of a "data fiduciary": companies that act as referees when a new co-op, startup or nonprofit wants to plug into a monopolist's service.

Importantly, it's an approach that recognizes the distinctive character of tech – taking account of the power of interop to break open walled gardens and unravel network effects.

What's especially interesting about this work is that it appears to have been developed in parallel to pre-existing work from Masnick and Keller (and me) – it's a case of convergence between the tech-policy world and the broader world of policy.

After all, while Masnick and Keller's work is well known inside of tech policy, that's just our obscure, nerdy corner of the policy world – now they're escaping that corner, becoming self-evident to people from traditional policy backgrounds.

My hope is that the trend continues – that we see ideas about Competitive Compatibility/Adversarial Interop join the idea of API mandates, so that we produce durable anti-monopoly systems, not just anti-monopoly rules.

Most important, though, is restoring an appreciation for the importance of interoperability in preventing monopolies and promoting technological self-determination for communities and individuals.

Because such a sensibility can escape the legislative world and be enacted via fast-moving, easier-to-use policy  tools. For example, we could (should!) make interop a feature of all government procurement rules.

No school district should buy devices for students without securing the right to sideload the apps they need on them – imagine buying 50,000 Ipads at public expense and then having Apple boot the app you rely on out of the App Store!

Likewise, no district should buy Google Classroom without securing a legally binding guarantee not to block interoperators who want to integrate other ed-tech services into the curriculum, with or without Google's cooperation.

Procurement and interop are as old as the Civil War, when the Union Army demanded firearms and ammo that had multiple manufacturers. As the state-level Net Neutrality rules (which bar governments from using non-neutral ISPs) showed us, procurement can shape markets.

Procurement is just for starters. Right now, tech companies caught breaking the law are handed down fines that are less than the profits their lawbreaking generated – instead, we could demand interop as part of any settlement.

One major barrier to interop is contract law: terms of service, EULAs, noncompetes, arbitration, etc. States wield enormous power over contracting terms: states can declare certain contractual language against public policy and thus unenforceable.

If, say, California were to pass a rule nullifying the mountain of abusive garbage that has become standard in digital "contracts," it would be in a position to export fair usage terms to the country in just the same way it exports robust emissions standards.

Antittrust is primarily a federal manner (that's why 40 years of federal antitrust malpractice has been such a disaster). But every level of government, down to your local school board, can make a meaningful difference in tech antitrust.

Digital technology's inescapable, marvellous, terrifying flexibility can be translated into so many unique, powerful weapons for transforming the industry and empowering communities to control their digital lives and seize the means of computation.

Lustige Fakten zu Amputationen - Teil 2

In Teil 1 haben wir uns hauptsächlich mit traumatischen Amputationen beschäftigt und haben gelernt dass scharfe, glatte Schnitte da besser sind als so n Matsch der bei stumpfen Traumata raus kommt.

Heute geht es weiter mit den nicht-traumatischen Amputationen:

Chirurgische Amputationen - wenn der Chirurg ganz durch schneidet

Als Chirurgische Amputationen bezeichnet man den Verlust von Körperteilen, der jetzt nicht draußen auf der Wiese unter ekligen Nicht-Sterilen Bedingungen Abläuft, sondern unter der grellen OP-Lampe und den scharfen Auge der Skalpell-schwingenden Königsdisziplin der Medizin. *hust*

Ganz ehrlich? Um den Menschen zu retten.

Fallbeispiel

Stellen wir uns mal einen Menschen vor. Wir nennen ihn der Einfach halber Frido. Frido ist jetzt schon so um die 88 Jahre alt und hat einen Strauß an Vorerkrankungen in seinen langen Leben angesammelt. Unter anderem hat er Diabetes und eine Durchblutungsstörung der Beine. Die Durchblutungsstörung der Beine ist nun schon so weit dass da eigentlich kaum noch was “unten” ankommt. Das merkt Frido nur nicht so wirklich weil der Diabetes ihn schon vor einiger Zeit die kleinen Nerven der Füße im Sinne einer Polyneuropathie so weit zerstört hat, dass er nicht mal mehr merkt dass ihm die Schuhe eigentlich 2 Nummern zu klein sind.

Und auch nicht dass er einen gerissenen Zehnnagel hat.

Und auch nicht dass da an der Zehe sich so eine komische Stelle gebildet hat.

Und auch nicht dass aus der komischen Stelle nun irgendwas raus matscht. Dazu ist der Zeh jetzt rot.

Jetzt ist der Zeh irgendwie ganz weiß. Mehr Matsch.

Jetzt hat der Matsch aufgehört. Der Zeh wird aber irgendwie dunkel.

Der Rest des Fußes wird jetzt irgendwie komisch. Außerdem fühlt sich Frido irgendwie nicht mehr gut. Ist vielleicht das Alter. Aber uh. Ja. Nicht gut. Man sagt das aber nicht den Hausarzt, der macht sich sonst nur so sorgen und springt dann immer so aufgeregt herum und will Blut oder gar einen ins Krankenhaus schicken, das ist viel zu viel Stress für Frido. Geht doch noch alles. Schmerzen hat er ja nicht.

Bis der Hausarzt ihn mal zur Fußpflege geschickt hat die er ja einmal im Quartal bekommt und die medizinische Fußpflege so ganz blass geworden ist und irgendwas krümmelig-schwarzes in der Hand hat und der Schuh auf einmal doch wieder besser passt.

Und äh... er sich plötzlich in der Notaufnahme wieder findet wo ein Haufen Ärzte und Schwestern um ihn rings rum springen, Blut abnehmen und ihn einen Haufen Papiere vor die Nase halten, die er lesen und unterschreiben soll.

Frido’s Fuß muss nämlich ab. Totes Gewebe ist wie ein First-Class-All-Inklusive-Hotel für Bakterien jeder Art und auch wenn der große Zeh hübsch trocken nekrotisiert und abgestorben ist (so weit, dass die Fußpflege das vordere Glied in der Hand hatte), ist der restliche Fuß jetzt hoch entzündet. Durch Durchblutungsstörung kann man da jetzt Antibiotika in den Körper kippen wie man will, da unten kommt nix mehr an. Aber Bakterien können ungehindert immer und immer wieder in den Körper HINEIN und Sepsis (”Blutvergiftung”) auslösen. Und Sepsis = Sehr sehr schlecht, ziemlich sicher Tod für Frido.

Einzige Chance? Amputation des Fußes, quasi die Ursache für die Infektion entfernen. Nicht schön, nicht nett, aber absolut Lebensnotwendig. Frido zögert. Aber unterschreibt schließlich.

Amputationen werden gewöhnlich in Vollnarkose gemacht (auch kein Spaß bei Frido und seinen Strauß an Vorerkrankungen). Erst wird eine Blutsperre errichtet (aka Gummischlauch um den Unterschenkel der dann voll Luft gepumpt wird bis alles so abgedrückt ist, dass unten kein Blut mehr ankommt.)

Dann wird geschnitten. Erst die Haut. Dann Faszien und Muskel. Blutgefäße werden frei gelegt, abgeklemmt, durchtrennt und entweder mit Strom “verödet” oder sorgfältig vernäht. Nerven werden ebenfalls sorgfältig durchtrennt. Am Schluss ist da der Knochen. Der macht Probleme.

Man versucht immer an einen Gelenk abzusetzen aber auf der anderen Seite will man so viel gesunden Fuß erhalten wie nur möglich. Man sägt schließlich den Knochen durch. Aber: Man sägt den Knochen TIEFER im Gesunden durch als Haut, Muskel, Nerven und Blutgefäße.

Aus den überschüssigen Haut, Muskel und Blutgefäßen formt man nämlich den Stumpf des Beines. So dass der Knochen etwas “Polster” hat. Dann wird vernäht, Blutschranke entfernt, nochmal geröntgt ob alles sitzt und dann muss Frido lernen entweder mit Prothese oder nur mit einem Bein zu laufen.

Alles nicht schön. Coole High-Tech-Prothesen gibt’s bislang leider nur in Star-Wars. Zwar kann man mittlerweile schon viel machen (und einige Prothesen sehen echt lebensecht aus) aber es ist trotzdem ein langer und beschwerlicher Weg. So gut wie’s original wird’s nie.

Aber: Ohne die Amputation wäre Frido vermutlich gestorben.

Das ist natürlich nicht der einzige Grund für Chirurgische Amputationen. Ein paar Beispiele sind zum Beispiel:

- bösartige Tumor im Knochen eines Körperteils -> Amputation zur Verhinderung einer Streuung in den Körper

- Riss-Quetsch-Wunde, welches ein Körperteil irreparable zerstört hat aber eben nicht vollständig abgetrennt hat. Manchmal muss man es halt lassen und komplett wegschneiden, Puzzeln nicht mehr möglich.

- Dinge wie Gicht haben ein Gelenk so sehr zerstört dass es quasi nur noch ein einziger Schmerz für den Patienten ist. Da muss dann halt der große Zeh weg, dafür kann der Mensch wieder schmerzfrei laufen

- Wenn der Daumen durch irgendwas zerstört wird (z.B. Opfer einer traumatischen Amputation wurde und nicht gerettet werden konnte weil er z.B. von einem Hund gefressen wurde) dann wird oft ein Großer Zeh “geopfert” aka amputiert um ihn anstelle des Daumens an die Hand zu nähen. Weil ohne großen Zeh können wir prima laufen, ohne Daumen ist so ne Hand schon irgendwie nicht so hilfreich. Und Daumen und große Zehen sind oft ziemlich ähnlich in äh... wie die so funktionieren.

Soweit erst mal zur chirurgischen Amputation.

Es gibt da natürlich noch eine Hand voll andere Arten (Wikipedia zählt noch Amputationen im Zuge von Ritualen, im Zuge von Bestrafungen und konnatale aka im Mutterleib stattfindende Amputationen auf. Letzteres ist wenn sich z.B. Schnürringe bilden und sich super fest um ein Körperteil wickeln bis das eben abstirbt. Sind jetzt eher selten. Wer sich für interessiert: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amniotisches-Band-Syndrom hier ist der Link zu dem Wikipedia-Artikel.) aber ja, Chirurgisch und Traumatisch sind für die meisten von uns die eher relevanten Arten der Amputation.

Okay, Ein Körperteil ist Ab. Was passiert jetzt?

Wie gesagt, was jetzt passiert hängt davon ab ob man das entsprechende Körperteil retten kann oder nicht. Schnell gerettetes und Spitz/Scharfe Amputationen können meist gut wieder angenäht werden. Fangen wir also mal mit dem Ideal-Fall an:

Was passiert nach einer solchen OP, wenn das abgetrennte Körperteil wieder angenäht wird?

Erst einmal... recht langweiliges Standard Zeugs.

Der Patient bleibt erst mal ein paar Tage im Krankenhaus. Blut wird abgenommen und gecheckt. Wenn es eine OP war, wo der Patient viel Blut verloren hat (erinnert ihr euch? ca 1 Liter in 1 Bein) bekommt dieser Erythrozyten-Konzentrate (je 0,5l rote Blutzellen aus Blutspenden. Wenn’s schnell gehen muss ist das 0-Rhesus-negatives Blut, wenn man Zeit hat gibt’s Kreuzblut mit der Blutgruppe passend zum Patienten. Fun Fakt: A-Positiv ist das häufigste Blut in Deutschland, dicht gefolgt von 0-Positiv. B-Positiv ist mit ca 9% schon recht selten, AB positiv mit 4% schon selten. Dass viel-begehrte 0-Negativ ist da mit 6% etwas häufiger. Seltenstes Blut ist tatsächlich AB-negativ). Wenn man jemanden EKs gibt, muss Blut auch regelmäßig kontrolliert werden. Dazu behält man Entzündungswerte im Auge, sowie ein Haufen anderer Sachen. Außerdem erhält der Patient für eine Weile Antibiotika Post-OP (ihr glaubt gar nicht wie viele Leute sterben würden, wenn NICHT JEDER während der OP Antibiotika bekäme. BITTE BITTE SAGT IHREN ANAESTHESISTEN WENN IHR ALLERGIEN HABT!) sowie Schmerzmittel (Nicht-Opioid + Opioid. Morphin eher nicht, ist zu schwach, aber abkömmlinge vom Morphin sind häufig. Nicht-Opioide sind meist Novamin oder Paracetamol. Wenn Schmerzmittel runter gefahren werden wird IMMER beim Opioid angefangen. Nicht nur wegen Abhängigkeit sondern weil Opioide a) Atemdepressionen machen aka der Körper is so der Meinung dass man jetzt nicht unbedingt atmen muss wenn man schläft, und b) Verstopfungen macht.

Jedenfalls, zurück zu unseren erfolgreich-operieren-Menschen.

Haut wächst für gewöhnlich in 1-2 Wochen zusammen. Fäden oder Klammern können meist nach 12-14 Tagen nach OP gezogen werden. Oft fängt vorher schon Physio- und Ergotherapie an. Der Mensch muss quasi wieder lernen wie man dieses Körperteil benutzt. Raus aus dem Bett und bewegen so viel und gut es geht!

Je nach dem kann das recht fix gehen, so ein paar Wochen. Kann aber auch wesentlich länger dauern. Außerdem können sich Schmerzen entwickeln, die von den durchtrennten Nerven her kommen. (Btw normale Schmerzmittel helfen da selten. Lieber werden spezielle Medikamente gegen Neuropathien also gegen Nervenschmerz genommen. Und nein, Opiate sind da nicht immer Mittel der 1. Wahl. Hört nicht auf die Amis!)

Nach Krankenhaus-Entlassung muss da aber trotzdem immer noch regelmäßig der Chirurg und der Hausarzt drauf gucken. Kann trotz allem immer ein Gefäß aufgehen und bluten oder mühsam vernähtes absterben.

Ähnlich sieht es übrigens beim Patienten aus, der Teile oder das komplette abgetrennte Körperteil verloren hat. Es wird beobachtet, Verbände gewechselt, Blut genommen und gehofft dass alles am Leben bleibt.

Abstoßungsreaktionen?

Ah, ne. Das ist es hier nicht. Es wird ja Körper-Eigenes angenäht, nicht was fremdes. Aber selbst bei optimal angenähten kann es immer sein, dass der Zelltot im Körperteil bereits so weit fortgeschritten ist, das alles halt abstirbt anstatt weiter zu leben.

Bei kompletter Amputation ohne Wieder-Annähen-Option und wo ein Stumpf am Schluss bleibt ist die Narbe am Stumpf die Schwachstelle. Das muss 100%-ig zusammen wachsen und auf gar keinen Fall infizieren! Deswegen gibts Antibiotika und regelmäßige Wundkontrollen BEVOR man anfängt eine Prothese anzupassen.

- Großes Problem bei Stümpfen sind Pilzinfektionen weil da wo die Prothese aufliegt es dunkel, warm, feucht und muckelig ist. Also PERFEKT für Pilze. Hautpilze sind außerdem fies zu behandeln. Regelmäßige Hygiene auch für die Prothese ist PFLICHT.

- anderes großes Problem bei Stümpfen sind Druckstellen.

- Problem bei Gliedmaßenverlust mehr als 1 Finger: Gleichgewichtsprobleme. So ein Arm oder gar ein Bein wiegt schon einiges und unser Körper ist nun mal mehr oder weniger Symmetrie bei Gewichtsverteilung und so gewohnt. Auch bei Armverlust ist Laufen-Lernen am Anfang etwas komisch.

- Anders als bei den Amis kann man in Deutschland nicht einfach so Körperteile mit nach Hause nehmen. Alles was mal so am/im Menschen war und lebte, ist offiziell B-Abfall und muss gesondert und ordentlich entsorgt werden. (aka wird verbrannt). Nierensteine und Gallensteine sowie Zähne sind nicht das Problem. Aber ja, Gliedmaßen? Geht in diese tollen großen gelben Container und damit dann in die Verbrennungsanlage.

- Unser Körper geht relativ meh mit Gliedmaßen generell um. Wann immer bei unser Gehirn der Meinung ist es liegt ein vitaler Notfall vor, wird Blut IMMER generell erst mal ins Zentrum geholt. Ein Mensch kann prima ohne Arme und Beine leben, ohne innere Organe und Kopf dagegen nicht so prima. Unser Hirn ist SEHR pragmatisch was so Überlebens-Zeugs angeht. Unser Großhirn mit so neumodischen Kram wie Bewusstsein ist im Vergleich sehr jung und komisch. Ist im Zweifelsfall übrigens für den Rest auch nicht so wichtig. Auch wenn das Großhirn für das Großhirn irgendwie wichtig ist.

- Weichteil-Infekte STINKEN GEWALTIG. Man riecht das schon vom Gang aus. Gute Wundversorgung und Pflege ist PFLICHT.

- Grundregel der Chirurgie: Schneide bis es blutet. Wo kein Blut, da auch kein lebendiges Gewebe

- Andere Grundregel der Chirurgie: Wo Eiter ist muss Eiter fließen. Aka wenn’s irgendwo gelblich suppt, muss aufgeschnitten werden bis ALLES RAUS IST.

- Ich sage immer “Schau auf die Füße, da erkennst du die Qualität der häuslichen (oder Pflegeheim) Pflege. Beispiel Frido ist mir ähnlich ein paar mal untergekommen. Man packt mal nichts-ahnend die Füße aus weil das nun mal zu so ner Eingangs-Untersuchung im Krankenhaus dazu gehört und dann hat man plötzlich nen krümmeligen halben Zeh in der Hand. Ew.

- Maden sieht man recht selten aber kommt vor. Nicht schön.

- Maden werden in kleinen Säckchen aber auch gezielt zur Wundpflege eingesetzt. Die fressen quasi alles tote weg und lassen das lebendige stehen. Coole Sachen. Nur Säckchen sollten auch gut verschlossen sein. Die kleinen Viecher sind Ausbruchs-Künstler.

- Es gibt mittlerweile Desinfektionsmittel das nicht brennt.

- Alkohol-Narkosen werden niemals wirklich jemanden durch eine Amputation bringen. Es sei denn er hat so viel Alkohol getrunken dass er komplett hinüber pennt. Dann hat er aber vermutlich eher ein akutes Alkohol-Vergiftungs-Problem.

- Phantom-Schmerz ist der Nervenschmerz wenn die Nervenzelle im Rückenmark irgendwie noch den Eindruck hat “Hey, müsste da nicht am Ende von meinem Ausläufer ein Signal kommen? Hmmm... ich feuer einfach mal nach oben”. Das Hirn bekommt also irgendwie komische Werte, zuckt mit den Schultern und ist so wie “Also wenn da was von Nervenzelle L5 kommt, muss es schon irgendwie der Fuß sein... vermutlich Schmerz? Eh, ich geb hier mal Schmerz ein”. So kann etwas schmerzen, was gar nicht mehr da ist.

- Man kann übrigens tatsächlich auch Arme, Beine und so weiter von anderen Leuten an einen Menschen nähen. ABER: es muss von diversen Sachen her passen. HLA ist dabei das wichtigste. Dann muss natürlich auch gerade der passende Arm zur richtigen Zeit (wir erinnern uns: 6 Stunden Fenster) da sein. Sind meist eher seltene Zufälle dass das funktioniert.

Und damit würde ich sagen haben wir heute erst mal genug gelernt :) Bei näheren Fragen mach ich auch noch einen Teil 3 hierzu :)

I think you would also share the popular take of the anime Dietfried, where he literary turned saintly (thanks to V’s endless graceful response to his mean streaks) and became an admirable true older brother. I was hoping Gil would come back and scolded dickfried. Thus imagine how dumfounded I got when anime Dietfried told his weak and arguably selfish younger brother that he wanted to put Gil in a sack and throw it before Violet. That’s beyond 180 turn! It might as well be a novel alternate reality like IF (except less disturbing O__O … I still don’t know what to make of Diet-V relationship there!).

Btw, despite minimum coverage of anime Gil, looks like he went through similar catharsis and as remorseful as V for his role in the war. This change of heart is evident as he lived and served in former enemy territory among the very people whose sons and brothers he and Violet had most likely killed. The novel Gil had no such character development. Still, I snorted out loud when I read your pointing out all the plot holes in the movie, which added to gil’s jackassery.

That was a good one from the movie, I agree. But I’m sure that if novel!Gil had to live in an isolated island in a former enemy nation, he’d do the exact same thing. It’s not like he hated the enemies. He was just protecting his country.

Now, here’s a different take of V’s wholeness up to the reunion. Comparing the reunion in the anime vs the novel, the anime V is more whole. How come? Well, the novel V still viewed herself as a tool requiring order then, the anime one did not. Further, a true test of character is how one reacts when one does not get what one wants. The novel V was well rewarded for all the years of clinging ludicrously to the belief that Gil was alive. After all, he came to her rescue for the reunion. The girl soldier did not experience that unfathomable rejection from her everything. In contrary, anime V received painful rejection upon attempting to reunite. She searched all over, learned new profession, went through nervous breakdown, even resorted to suicide attempt for what turns out to be a weak man who chose to wallow in sorrow. This is undoubtedly unfair and painful to her, and the audience. It is heart piercing sad when the person with whom you create memory with becomes a memory. Yet she resolved to move on. Beyond moving on, there was not an ounce of resentment or even entitlement for an apology. That tear-jerking last letter exudes an attitude of gratitude as she listed EVERY single thing that weak, broken man had gifted her. Despite all his flaws, his love for her had become her way of living. How his kindness beget kindness of her own, which she generously shared with Amy and Taylor Bartlett among many others. Thus, the anime V is more noble and whole (at reunion) than her novel counterpart.

OP, you’re comparing the wrong Violet. ^^’ Remember that the anime has a different timeline? Movie!Violet is post-Gaiden. Novel!Violet during their reunion is pre-Gaiden. You should be comparing Ani!Violet with how Novel!Violet was in Gaiden chapter 6. The Violet who understands love more, who realizes that she was in love with Gil from day one, who had opened up to a romantic relationship, in which she’ll have to be equal to him and thus will never again be treated as a tool or receive orders from him.

As for the “how she reacts when she doesn’t get what she wants” thingy... I’m not sure if you recall, but Novel!Violet found out that Gil was alive way before their reunion. And she chose to let him be. She simply continued living like normal and waiting for him. If he decided to reunite with her, good. If he didn’t, that would be sad as fuck to her, but she would leave him alone, just as she had been doing all those months in-between summer and fall when she knew that he was all right and just moved on with her life.

So, yeah, I think they were both just as noble and whole. I’d actually give Novel!Violet more points because she didn’t even try to go change his mind. She simply took the obvious conclusion, which must have hurt a ton when looking back on all she had gone through, and respected his will.

Aw very kind of you to thank me for military service. By God’s grace I was spared from Gilbert and Violet’s type of service, but I did struggle to move on after service. A new career in emergency medicine has afforded me the privilege to be front and center as children, sibling, friend, and parent pass away by their loved ones. In the process, I learned to steer from being cold and aloof.  I compartmentalize well which enabled me to remain a functional professional throughout those traumatic moments, but the novel and anime let me process those compartments long after. It is eerily poignant how relatable VE journey is.  When lamentations over the end of dreams and relationships got overwhelming, the obligation to care for hurting patients pulled me away from the immobilizing self-pity. That pinky promise and thank you letter also hit home very hard. A year prior to the movie release, I did exactly those with a dearest person, whose life I am no longer a part of. I guess I internalize this work of fiction a bit too much eh? To me, VE is a profound lesson in empathy through the journey of loving, losing, longing, n letting go.

It’s not too much at all! It’s actually wonderful to know more and more about how relatable VE is to people who work/worked in the military, because I’m sure Akatsuki-sensei did her research on that.

Proficiat dus aan Distria Krasniqi (°95; Kos; 1°WRL). - in 2018 versloeg ze Ami Kondo (°95): de Japanse, wereldkampioene seniors toen ze 19 was; op haar 20 had ze al 3x de GSL Japan gewonnen; won ook de Masters in 2016, maar “faalde” dan in Rio met slechts brons op de Spelen; ondanks winst nog in Paris’19 lukte het niet écht meer zoals vroeger, moest ze in eigen land bovendien Funa Tonaki (°95) laten voorgaan en besliste eind 2020 dan maar te stoppen om zich te storten op een andere passie: kleuterjuf zijn ! much respect!   - in 2019 versloeg Distria, Narantsetseg Ganbaatar (°95; Mgl; 18° WRL);  - nu dus wint ze overtuigend van Funa Tonaki (°95; Jpn; 3° WRL); Tonaki stond altijd in finale van een WTour waaraan ze deel nam sinds eind-2018 toen ze de GSL Osaka won, en vertegenwoordigt allicht ook daarom Japan op de komende Spelen.

Sinds 2019 betekenen de Masters per gewicht de top-36 uit de wereldranking. En hoewel we volgens zowel hoofdcoach Mark Van der Ham als topsportbaas Koen Sleeckx progressie maken, blijken de versoepelde Masters voor de “meeste” categorieën toch nog duidelijk te hoog gegrepen voor Judo Vlaanderen; 8 Britten, 15 Duitsers, 18 Nederlanders, 22 Fransen (om het bij de buurlanden te houden), en....  4 Walen + 1 Vlaming. Wees gerust, geen enkele Vlaamse bobo zal ooit zeggen dat we niet goed bezig zijn :-).  Enfin, dus ook in de /-57kg géén Mina Libeer, die 46° WRL staat. Vaak zijn er wel een reeks judoka’s die voor de Masters bedanken voor de eer, en dan gewoonlijk werden vervangen door lager gerankte judoka’s; maar  a) in corona-tijden wordt er al zo weinig gekampt, dat nu de meesten wel degelijk willen vechten  en b) volgens de versoepelde formule gaat men toch niet véél lager meer dan n°36; ondanks slechts 29 deelnemers, was de laagst gerankte /-57kg die hier op de tatami verscheen Loredana Ohai (°92; Rou; 38°WRL);

Tsukasa Yoshida (°95; Jpn; 3° WRL), die Japan vertegenwoordigt op de Spelen hield een algemene repetitie al had ze haar handen meer dan vol met de getalenteerde Sarah-Leonie Cysique (°98; Fra; 7°WRL), die overigens de n°1 van de WRL klopte in 1/2-fin, nl. Jessica Klimkait (°96; Can); en ook was Christa Deguchi (°95; Can; 2°WRL), die andere Canadees-Japanse wereldtopper, niet van de partij;  >> video (fin) Yoshida - Cysique : fantastische wedstrijd, beslecht in houdgreep na 5′04″min GS.  Overigens, Klimkait vs. Deguchi, of wie gaat er naar de Spelen ? Volgens Nicolas Gill (de baas van Judo Canada) zal dat beslist worden in een “best of three” ergens tussen 20-May <> 03-Jul; een logische approach als je het mij vraagt. Geen Ryuju Nagayama (°96; Jpn; 1°WRL) en geen Naohisa Takato (°93; Jpn; 3°WRL), absolute wereldtoppers; sinds het ‘debacle’ van Rio (slechts 3°), verloor Takato enkel nog van Nagayama, maar pakte ondertussen wel 2 wereldtitels; alleen in 2019 liet hij het opnieuw afweten op het recentste WK (in eigen land bovendien - slechts 5°), maar toch gaat Takato naar de Spelen voor Japan;

In afwezigheid dus van de Japanners, toch een Aziatische finale tussen de Koreaanse winnaar Won Jin Kim (°92; Kor; 12° WRL; 2x 3°WK & 16x WTour medaille) en Taiwanees Yung Wei Yang (°97; Tpe; 11°WRL; 3° laatste GSL Japan & 2° laatste GSL Düsseldorf);  Een kamp voor brons tussen 2 Russen werd gewonnen door Albert Oguzov (°91; Rus; 25° WRL) tegen Yago Abuladze (°97; Rus; 7°WRL); de hoogst gerankte Rus Robert Mshvidobadze (°89; Rus; 2°WRL) en net (in Nov-2020) Europees kampioen geworden (tegen Abuladze), werd er in zijn 1ste kamp uitgeknikkerd door Moritz Plafky (°96; Ger; 27°WRL) ! Abe (°97; Jpn; 3°WRL) trok aan het langste eind, maar alweer een schande natuurlijk dat huidig wereldkampioen Maruyama (°93; Jpn; 2°WRL) niet naar de Spelen kan ! Geen enkele West-Europeaan in de top-8; Baul An (°94; Kor; 13°WRL) wint hier de Masters voor een tweede maal, 5 jaar na Guadalajara (Mex, 2016); zeker een verdiende winnaar: zilver in Rio, na.. Hey, Kalos representation! (Not the same anon who asked about what drew you to Falkner, btw.) Speaking of, what did you like/dislike about Pokemon X/Y?

((Yay Kalos! By the time X and Y were announced, I had actually switched majors from organismal biology to French, because I learned the hard way that taking all science and math was detrimental to my emotional and mental health. So as you can imagine, I was very excited for Gen 6.

I feel like my thoughts on Kalos are similar to most people’s thoughts, but let me highlight a few points. First, for pros:

The region was just stunning. It was almost perfect for the transition from sprites to CGI for the main series games.

I loved a lot of the new mechanics. Horde battles, a brand new type (that admittedly ended up a bit OP), Mega Evolution, the beginnings of ride-able Pokémon, trainer customization, Pokémon Amie...I had fun with all of that, okay?

Just...I love most of the Pokémon introduced in Kalos. Plus I mean...this is the gen they really started to put more consideration into shiny Pokémon palettes (rather than mostly using the next palette in the code) and it really shows.

I just really love Kalos okay?

For cons:

Plot-wise, there was a lot left to be desired. I talk about this in depth both on Jules’ and Pascale’s blogs, but it seems to me like GF was really hoping we would all be too awed by the physical beauty of the games to notice not-so-well-paced story progression (seriously, that gap between the first and second Gyms, for example). some seriously under-developed/superficial NPCs, and just...there are points were the timeline seems to contradict itself. And that’s to say nothing about areas of the game that just feel wasted and empty, like the Sea Spirit’s Den/the entirety of Azure Bay and the Chamber of Emptiness.

I feel like Sky Battles had a lot of potential, but they were just sort of...there. Honestly after that Emogla battle so early on I lost any desire to seek out Sky Trainers, and we weren’t really given any incentive to go looking.

We really did lose a lot by not getting a follow-up game. I am permanently bitter about Eternal Flower Floette, for one thing, but there are so many unanswered questions about Zygarde and it kills me. How is it that the two legendaries that Zygarde is supposed to balance are each completely immune to one of its STAB types (I know Thousand Arrows technically works on Yveltal, but still)?

Kalos was good but it could have been so much more.))
