TPS65131 Split-Output Booster Supply

Generating a negative voltage over -5V is kinda annoying: most chargepumps max out at 5V inversion, and ones that can double-then-invert like the MAX232 aren't high current. We bumped into the TPS65131

while working on our Floppsy design

- we need -12V to bias the Apple Disk ][ drive control system. It's a combo buck and boost: give it 3~5VDC and give you up to -15V and +15V output. The split supply part is particularly nice because you'll want +-12V or +-15V for analog projects. This standalone power supply breakout has two mini trim pots to help adjust the output voltages on both sides so you can have as little as +/-6V and up to +/-15V. With the 2A internal switches, you'll get a fair amount of current on either rail.

The constructed photograph - workshops

During these workshops, we practiced the lighting and poses that we are planning to use for our project “the constructed photograph”.

During the Monday 11/02 workshop, we rented the Prolinka Kit ( a portable lighting kit with 2 headlights, stands, and umbrella) Triggers, tripod and color gels.

After a few attempts, we finally got the lighting we needed, trying to balance daylight with flashes etc.

Afterward, we discussed with our tutor Ochi if it was necessary to add more lights to lighten up the other subjects at the back, and she advised to rent one more kit to test it. 

And finally, we got the result we wanted after a few tests. We placed one main light with an umbrella diffuser in front of the subject, slightly on the left, one more light behind the main subject, slightly on the left with the red filter and one more light with barn doors to light up the subject at the back.

We have also practiced some outdoor lighting with the Metz Flash on Monday 11/02

Which I found very helpful in case I decide to shoot outdoors and I don't have anywhere to plug my kit.

A few days after the practice, I and my group went to the location where the shooting will take place to check the light conditions and the space, also we talked about the props that we will have to bring, the clothing, we found a model and we discussed all the things to consider before the actual shoot.

The location seemed perfect and the lighting too, so we decided to go there on the 2nd of March with the model and all the props to take the main photo. We will see :)

+++ COLOUR NEGATIVE PRINTING +++

The last workshop we had on Monday 18/02 was very exciting as we got to start learning how to print in the color darkroom. Basically, you are in the dark most of the time when cutting the paper to do the test strips, when exposing the negative to the photographic paper with the enlarger, and when taking the exposed photographic paper into the room where there is a machine which will develop it.

This ( below) is the room with the enlarger in which I was working.

It is very exciting and I think that when you finally start to get used to it and learn how the color works it will be very pleasing and satisfying. Our tutor Ochi is been amazing at explaining all process and very caring throughout the workshop. In the end, I got to have a chat with her about my personal project where she gave me some very useful advice.
