My Worldbuilding: Vampires (3)

New Anatomy

A vampiric coma can last anywhere from a four days to the longest recorded being five months. No one knows what exactly causes such strong differences in length, but it is currently belief that it correlates with the amount of changes to the infected’s anatomy.

The new vampire is now running off of their new anatomy upon waking, all of which had been rearranged during their deep sleep. Their body no longer runs off of calories, or many of the same stuff as before. A complete overhaul has happened on the body’s system. 

Several of the body’s organs fail while in the coma to become reabsorbed or shrunken by the infected’s body; including much of intestines, liver, kidneys. This gives room for new nerves, and a group of new organs form. The lungs change function from breathing, to become an assistant to the diaphragm and the endocrine system, which will work together to make feeding an easy task for the vampire.

The endocrine system, lymph nodes, and cardiovascular system overtake the digestive system, as the body will be receiving liquids instead of solids for fuel/energy again. Instead consumption for nutrients will happen primarily in the blood stream, and a smaller version of the stomach. Veins, the heart, and stomach pick up the needed nutrients for vampires. Blood pressure is now naturally slower, and the skin is pale to a change blood.

Fangs

The vampire’s fangs is one of the most important features that every vampire has. Without them their lives become much more difficult, and health can deteriorate quickly. The fangs have many features aside from just puncturing the skin.

Glands of different types now exist within base of the vampire’s neck. Occasionally some infected have extra patterned throughout the body alongside the endocrine system. These are paired with several solutions that secrete from the fangs. The vampire is in charge of using these injections, but a new one won’t be used to it yet and will use each loosely until they do.

Vampires can use multiple in a bite, and choose not to use any. Types of venoms & solutions include.

Vampiric Essence (Infects bitten individual)

Instant pain killer (Numbs bitten individual so the process isn’t incredibly painful)

Soother (Makes the bitten individual relax, and causes the experience to feel pleasurable. Soothes people both physically and emotionally)

Paralytic (paralyzes the bitten individual temporarily)

Sedative (forces bitten individual into a deep sleep temporarily)

Healing Solvent (Vampire licks the solvent off of their fangs, and then over the bite. Causes the bite to heal quicker, and soothes the pain/inflamation)

I've been following your stuff since WAY before Jeih was a thing and I can even distinctly remember his creation and your Yellow Obsession...something about a motorcycle helmet??

Anyway, I digress. Been rotating Locks in my head lately as I've worked on my own speculative biology. Not like, ripping off elements of your designs (I recall you've had some problems w that shit in the past) but more in the sense of trying to work more with perspective and wiggly bits, as well as reminding myself that while I am entitled to make a critter look a certain way because I Said So, the end result is much more believable if you have at least some practice with existing earth critter anatomyas a foundation to start with.

Oh man, blast from the past. I did go through a yellow streak back in undergrad, hilarious to think Jeih came about because of that and how entrenched he is as a char 15+ years later.

Hey, just so you know. An antagonist is actually a villain. Like, that's the dictionary definition. Look it up.

My friend, apparently we read different dictionaries.

You see my friend, you’ve made the same mistake everyone tom, dick and harriet makes; You’ve assumed antagonist is a synonym for villain, and protagnist is synonym for hero. They aren’t. For starters, these aren’t words that solely apply to fiction, so saying that one means hero, and the other mean villain is a bit of an issue (I mean, in elections, each candidate is the antagonist of the other - but neither is necessarily evil - they just oppose one another, therefore are one another’s antagonist)

The term “villain” tends to describe the attributes or traits of a character themselves (as opposed to the role that they play within a story). In a very simple way, you could say that it means that a character is somehow “evil”. Whilst traditionally villains were usually the antagonist, that is not always the case (shocking, right?). Hero and villain simply describe who a character is, and this shouldn’t be confused with protagonist and antagonist which describes a characters ROLE within the story.

An antagonist is someone who propels the story forward for the protagonist. He, she or even a “thing”, helps to provide the compelling reason to drive the story forward for the hero or protagonist. The antagonist isn’t necessarily ‘evil’ they simply oppose the protagonist, just like the protagonist isn’t necessarily ‘good’ they are literally just the main character.

The terms antagonist and protagonist describe the character’s position in the story, based on what the audience is seeing; but they don’t necessarily tell you whether a character is a hero or a villain.Sure, you could swap villain for antagonist, and it would potentially make sense, but if you wrote from the point of view OF the villain, or the villain was the MAIN character, then calling the villain the antagonist would make very little sense, because simply by being the MAIN character, they’d the protagonist (and unless you’re really clever and creative, one character can’t be bother the protagonist and antagonist).  

A villain IS evil, no doubt about that, an antagonist possibly isn’t. It all depends on who the character is. You can have villainous protagonists, and heroic antagonists. You can have antagonists that are literally just an idea or concept (or a societal norm). Sometimes there is no real antagonist (not by your very simple definition’s standards at least), because the thing that opposes the protagonist isn’t a villain. It could be an illness (see the fault in our stars, where the closest thing to an antagonist is probably cancer). But I’m sure you don’t believe me, I’m just a person who runs a blog about villains. Lets look at some definitions! (which will all be under the cut thingy, because otherwise this will be a monster of a post)

In other words, an antagonist is a person or a group of people who opposes a protagonist.

Oh. Well, I guess that’s just wikipedia, and its not always right, is it? Lets try actual dictionaries shall we?

tldr; antagonists are not the same as villains. Protagonists are not the same as heroes. Its all more complex than your overly simple definitions.
