Movement, Muscles & Meridians: posterior chain & the knee, UB channel and superficial back line I’m really just interested in mapping “energetic” with “structure” to compare and contrast and maybe find that they’re saying the same damn thing and maybe even find some insights from one to the other. Thank you for all the acupuncture corrections about the different channels from those that know more than I. I’m not an acupuncturist. The most remarkable thing about the Back of the Knee to me is the dance of the Urinary bladder channel. The popliteal vascular supply and the lateral superior genicular branches seem to mirror this. Not nerves, nor myofascia…okay arguably there’s a space perfectly created by the hamstrings and gastrocnemius muscles for this, but compared to the rest of the Bladder channel that simply traverses up the middle of the muscles, this fascinates me. Second note, the channel jumps up to the hip. Technically I know I’m getting the direction wrong, but I’m more interested in proving myself wrong that knee problems are not knee problems, until they are. Here we have another connection of the Knee to hip figured out way before my life time. Movement, Muscles & Meridians Working our way up from the feet along the lateral aspect of the leg to the knee. There is not much movement here, or there shouldn’t be. Typically if we see too much movement here, the knee will most likely communicate. Pain is a great way to say that it’s not happy. Following that note, there is not much muscle here. In fact, it’s the Iliotibial band predominantly which is not muscle at all (yes, yes, it attaches to TFL and kinda acts as the extension of the muscle). We can see again why knee issues rarely start as knee issues, but start as hip, or if we look below at the fibularis muscles, it comes from the foot. Movement: not too much (unless you look at the back foot of pro surfers, woah!) This zone is for stabilization mostly. Movement here would be an indicator something is up! Muscles: Tensor Fascia Latae through IT band spans the joint, while fibularis muscles are below Meridians: lateral line of fascia and gallbladder channel in Chinese medicine #knees #kneemovement #kneepain #lateralline #laterallinefascia #anatomytrains #myofascial #myofascialmeridians #meridians #chinesemeridians #itsallconnected #anatomyart #anatomystudy #anatomyexploration #digitaldissection #gallbladderchannel #gallbladdermeridian #fascia #fascial #bodymechanics #biomechanicalenergetical (at Santa Cruz, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfHXcMKpl7b/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Movement, Muscles & Meridians: deep frontline fascia and Liver channel At the level of to the torso, I was lost for a second. Remember, I’m not an acupuncturist. So I’m studying 5000 years of knowledge without the imposition of a school pressing me to pass a licensing exam. I’m simply exploring and enjoying and probably making mistakes but learning so much. The most interesting takeaways from the deep frontline and liver meridians: -starting at the genitals, or pelvic floor, there’s a crisscrossing from left to right before going central. This mirrors the pelvic floor musculature as also pointed out by Dr. Beach in his book -I had always wondered why Liver was associated with genitals, now I see -also, seeing a very clear and distinct path of the Liver channel through the deep frontline starting with pelvic floor, sacrum, to ribs, through lungs and up -I’ve always looked at the primary channels with their points, but with these yin channels, I’m noticing they run from earth to heavens and all finish internally in the cranium -the end of the Liver channel external points, Liver points 13 and 14, and they practically frame the Liver, despite the organ actually being asymmetrical -the movement here…what contains and pertains to pelvic floor, sacrum, deep abdominals, little flexion and some adduction of the hips?? Movement: posterior pelvic tilt, which then brings back the inclusion of deep hamstrings from the knee exploration of these meridians so… Muscles: hamstrings, adductors, pelvic floor, deep abs, how about intercostals? #muscles #movement #meridians #livermeridian #fascia #deepfrontline #myofascialmeridians #myofascial #pelvicfloor #pelvicfloorexercises #pelvicfloordysfunction #pelvictilts #posteriorpelvictilt #humanarchitecture #humananatomy #anatomyexplorations #anatomyart #energyhealers #bodymechanics #adaptablepolarity (at Santa Cruz, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CgSDnqUpKfh/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Movement, Muscles & Meridians: deep front line fascia and spleen The knee, again, seemingly the least liked posts every time on this series, but I’m still having fun and learning. First off, once again, we have zero acupoints at the knee joint itself. This is similar to the lateral knee where we don’t see much, shouldn’t see much, movement. Maybe a slight varus here at the medial knee for adaptability, but this is not a zone for movement. Maybe a little more if I invert my foot? Secondly, even though I have been focusing on muscles and fascia through these series, by the second post on deep frontline fascia, my focus has shifted. We’re in the yin zone, and has deeper insights I’ll get into in the . This lands me looking at the spleen channel and the great saphenous vein and (not pictured) some of the femoral group lymphatics. Between the two lines of fluids running towards the heart and around the myofascia, I can see the spleen channel like never before. Probably, totally wrong in TCM, but I’m an architect at heart, and in nature, form follows function. Energetics and structures are two languages of the same thing. Movement, Muscles & Meridians The lateral aspect of the hip, and really looking at the frontal plane of movement. In opposition to the knee, we see a greater range of motion and mobility at the hip…well, “supposed to” but honestly males in western society is an entire different story. Joking aside, this could be an issue right? Lack of movement in the hip may just translate to the knee?? Is your knee pain actually your butt pain??? Movement: abduction of the hip Muscles: tensor fascia latae, the glutes that abduct so medius, minimus and even some fibers of glute max Meridians: lateral line of fascia and gallbladder channel in Chinese medicine #connectingdots #chinesemedicine #myofascialmeridians #musclesandmeridians #hips #hippain #kneepain #hipmovement #lateralline #fascia #frontalplane #meridians #glutes #movement #movementismedicine #digitaldissection #anatomyart #anatomyexplorations #gallbladderchannel #gallbladdermeridian #anatomytrains (at Bonny Doon, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfJ7PBAJt4g/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Movement, Muscles & Meridians: the anterior body According to Dr. Beach and his embryological studies, the anterior contractile field develops simultaneously with the posterior. This means a couple things with deeper implications. First, the lateral fields are their own antagonists and they are symmetrical. The anterior and posterior chains are antagonistic, but not symmetrical. We can side bend and this is an essential movement, but it is the containment between the anterior and posterior that allow propulsion and movement through space…most of the time on two feet. I’m inferring here to the importance of balance between front and back, and I see this all the time with back pain and issues around intra-abdominal pressure (IAP). It’s all about #balance New series begins at the foot. Following through all fascial planes and meridians, comparing, contrasting and exploring.
