Movement, Muscles & Meridians The lateral aspect of the hip, and really looking at the frontal plane of movement. In opposition to the knee, we see a greater range of motion and mobility at the hip…well, “supposed to” but honestly males in western society is an entire different story. Joking aside, this could be an issue right? Lack of movement in the hip may just translate to the knee?? Is your knee pain actually your butt pain??? As awesome as they are, #Planks can get boring sometimes. Here's a variation of the #SidePlank with a 3D #ArmDriver. Reaching forward in the #SagittalPlane, sweeping up at the side in the #FrontalPlane, & rotating underneath in the #TransversePlane. Give this a try. Take a look at this variation from my last post. The goal here is to get more #FrontalPlane shift using the #ViPR. We made a small adjustment and had @katie_diffley_ pay more attention to her hip movement. The increased shift will create more loading in the front or lead #Glute #Hamstring and #Quadricep. Day 6 🔬⚖️#AnatomyForYogis ⚖️🔬#yogachallenge is focusing on flexion and extension of the hip joint. I really do enjoy using the wall as a prop. Annnnnnnd for Day 7 the focused is opposing muscles; agonists/primary movers and the antagonists. When one muscle (primary mover) is contracted/flexed the opposing muscle (antagonist) relaxes/stretches. @yogamand I loved your example of using the blocks. For me I found it really showed up where my muscles aren't firing as strongly as they should be. I can tell with other exercises like squats and deadlifts, but having the blocks there really helped me to hone in - it was incredible. Day 3 🔬⚖️#AnatomyForYogis ⚖️🔬#yogachallenge - Come on baby, let's do the twist!🎶 Today is all about the Transverse Plane or Horizontal Plane. This plane divides the body into top and bottom halves and here is where #Rotation occurs. When it comes to twists it's super important to keep the hips/pelvis level. Rotation happens in the ribcage/thoracic spine and neck (not so much the low back) and the internal & external obliques help us out with this movement. So I'm getting my twist on in #RevolvedHandToBigToePose - okay so isn't this background cool? I'm feeling it! 🔬⚖️Day 2 #AnatomyForYogis 🔬⚖️ #yogachallenge is movements in the #SagittalPlane - I'm so enjoying this challenge! Such a great refresher! Okay so the Sagittal plane divides the body into right and left halves down the centre of the body. In this plane there is have flexion (decreases the angle of joints) and extension (increases the angle of the joint). For today I chose #BoatPose variation (flexion of hips) and #InclinePlank (extension of hips, knees, ankles, elbows)z Couldn't resist taking advantage of the gorgeous sunset this evening as the backdrop for my photos!
